Assumes you know everything about the course! Or maybe it's because I'm taking the summer session. Makes you read apprx. 42 pages a night (because in Philosophy we have to read passages about 3 times to fully understand!). <----According to him...

Great teacher...very driven. Keep up with the class lectures to be able to study well for those tests!
He is an **** because he has to be due to being a philosophy professor. Yet while being an **** he is a great teacher, you learn easily if you listen to his lectures and read your assignments. I had no problem with learning the material with him.
has a charmingly dry sense of humor accompanied with superpowers which include making anyone understand philosophy. his tests combine multiple choice and short essays, but are easy and include everything from his discussions and notes. he’s absent a lot
Class can be difficult to follow, requires tremendous amount of reading
Has a dry sense of humor that takes time to appreciate. Is often unhelpful. Looks at you like you are a retard when you ask him a question. Take a lot of notes in his lectures and study them. You do not need the book. Very picky essay grader. Only he is right. Overall his tests are ok.
Sigmannn..I was totally obsessed with him, not because of his lectures, but because of that dry sense of humor. This was my first college class and was totally shocked when he cussed. I agree with the last person, he looks at you as if you were retarded. But I enjoyed his class...
He is so boring
the class is not easy, the grading is not easy too,and you wish you would not be doomed on the essay part.
he's lectures are intresting and straight forward. make sure to take notes because the test are made up of the notes you take.
he's a great professor. His sense of humor is great and his lectures are very clear. Take Notes..Notes..and more Notes. Study them and you're sure to get a good grade. I enjoy watching other student's reactions when he cusses.
He is good at making you interested and his lectures are clear. I enjoy this class.
he's a cool teacher but hard when it comes to grading. His test are hard because of his crazy essay. rarely any written homework. Lots and Lots of reading. very interesting...
Fairly easy teacher.Reading is not very necessay if you pay attention in lecture and take notes. People say he has a dry sense of humor, but he actually comes off as very sophisticated and cultured because of it. If you're one to easily grasp abstract concepts, easy class. If not, do your reading and memorize philosophers.
very very hard teacher. I recommend u buddy up with someone and read together. Tests are hard, but is fair on essays. His sense of humor is great, but he sounds awkward when he "tries" to make u laugh.
very hard. He's funny and will answer any questions you have to the best of his ability. His stories are funny and you can probably relate to a few of them. Not much hw, just review notes every so often, dont cram, it wont work with this class.
Hard teacher. He's funny sometimes. There were 3 quizzes, two group projects and a final. I got all C on the quizzes and projects, not sure what i got on the final, but in the end, i got a B. I guess it wasn't that bad overall.
The class wasn't easy but Professor Sigman made it as fun as it could get. Even though I spaced on a couple of the tests his grading system allowedme to get a decent grade for the class. He's funny.
Mr. S is the best! Didn't have much interest in Philosophy but I needed the units and this was the only class that fit my schedule. Gives subjective and objective exams. Don't bs through the essays, you need to read the texts to be able to answer them. He is funny and very aproachable. Seems intimidating but he's a good guy and a great professor.
hes difficult. i took the honors course. its probably one of the hardest honors courses, just because reading his assigned books are boring and you have to write an essay for easy book. the second book he makes you read is very dry.
he's pretty interesting if u like his sense of humor... but his tests are on exactly what he lectures so just take really good notes. its not a hard class, you dont really need to read the book. and he's late everytime
The quiz and exam are easier than textbook, but u still need to take time to study hard. u need to use the textbook and it is not expensive. three quiz u can drop one, group projects u ought to be very secerious. we spent more time than other groups so we all got A. if u have good logic, this class would be very easy for u.
Prior to taking this course I had no interest in philosophy whatsoever. After taking this course I decided to take 2 more classes, Critical Thinking and Ethics. After those courses I changed my major to Philosophy. His teaching and adviced changed my mind about Philosophy completely. Great teacher with a great sense of humor.
Took it online with him and it was really fun. He posted pictures from around the planet that made me really look forward to logging on. He also teased us, made quizes and told funny stories. He gave lots of encouraging. I still cant beleve I like an online class so much.
Cool teacher. Very nice and helpful. Had to study very hard for his test but got my A. Great philosophy teacher.
Well then it's not the professor I took. My experience online was horrible. He was harsh with me and made horrible and unfounded...by anyways I rather take English 103
I taking on line Phi06 this summer,If you are a self-inspiring person.4Hrs a week is enough to get A, he provide much extra-credits. over 86% grade you can get A. so it is hard to get B unless ....
I really enjoyed his class. I got to know him and he is great. He really cares about how you do in his class. If you tell jokes and act a like goffy then you will so get a better grade. His tests are easy just read the book. I think that if you ask questions and are not afraid to work it then you will bomb...
if you want questions answered dont ask him. his class was difficult for the majority of the students. will not rec. him at all, unless you want a D or below. He's merciless.
Very interesting class. He's travels a lot & shares his experiences with the class and it's very exciting. I suddenly wanted to login much more than before after that. He's very, very interesting guy.
Cool class, cool professor. I recommend him.
Mr. Sigman is an excellent proffesor. His class is one of the best classes i had at ELAC. Best teacher in the philosophy department.
Enjoyed the class adn Sigmand is entertaning
I am currently taking Mr. Sigman for Honors Philosophy and I must say I love his class. His lectures are thought-provoking and he makes a difficult subject matter comprehensible. The reading is interesting yet instructive. His exams are a mix of M.C. questions & essay questions and he assigns 2 term papers. I highly recommend Mr. SIGMAN!!
Really liked his class!
he's very smart.
Took the online class. The textbook has really short chapters and as long as you really read and do all the homework you will get an A in the class. There is not too much material so really understand the material that is assigned since this is a critical thinking class and you will do well. If you like getting most of your grades through homewo
This class was ok. The quizzes are easy if you read and pay attention but the midterms and final are hard because you have to write essays. Sometimes he does have very interesting lectures which ive enjoyed.
Ok this class was pretty hard, alot of people dropped this class. The quizes are easy but the midterm and final are very hard. He seems like a teacher that won't hesitate to fail you if you are struggling.
I go to UCLA and thought I'd pick up an easy A grade on a required logic class by taking it online at a community college. That was NOT right at all. His class kicked my butt! Learned alot though. Don't wait until the end to do your work or you'll be sorry.
Summer session 5 week course.Very informative. This was a tough course, over half dropped course after a few weeks. Course required a large amount of time to complete assignments. Not an easy "A" by any measure. I learned a great deal in this class.
Over all he was a good teacher. You will learn a lot from him. But once you are on his bad side, it's game over. I did really good on my final and I still ended up with a C in his class. He picks on people and I hand to be one of them. If you don't like to be picked on don't take him. He's not an easy teacher, but he teaches the class very will.
He doesnt like to work with students in need of help. U will always use the book so bring every day. He does group work. He goes off on unrelated topics and talks about france, Plays random videos b4 class. Im a straight A student and got a B so good luck
This class was not hard at all. Sigman reviews all the materials and if you take good notes then the quizzes are all really easy.
Some of these comments are just sad. The commenters sound like lazy butts who don't get that college is supposed to be a 'challenge.' Even when you could tell the person didn't do the reading or was asking a stupid question Sigman still tried to help them. He is really patient! If you want a super easy A, go back to high school.
Great class! Prof was great about warning us of deadlines and assingments, but what I appreciated the most were the clear interpretations that he gave of the toughest ideas in the class.
pretty easy teacher. does not give homework. there is just a midterm final and two group projects. make sure you read and you will pass the class with at least a B
Prof. Sigman's class was great. He knows what he is talking about and is good at teaching it. His class is not easy, but it isn't hard either. It's all about reading the book, taking good notes, and STUDYING! This is how I got an A.I would take him again in a heartbeat if I had to take another philo course. He swears every now and then.He is genius.
I loved his class, no HW, super easy tests as long as you read the book. midterm and final was easy as long as you READ everything he assigns to you. only one paper due at end of semester.
He was absent quite a lot so therefore the lectures were kind of squished together for Chapter 6-7... But when he WAS there he was very helpful, clear, explained things in an easy way. He cusses a lot which is kind of funny. He's smart too so watch what you say to him or he'll have a witty remark
The content itself is difficult, but Sigman does a good job breaking it down into simple English though. The multiple choice portion of the test is really easy. You don't have to know a lot to get the right answer, and he always adds 1 or 2 bizarre choices. The essays are a little bit harder though.
Great teacher!! Made the class so interesting
He is very nice, and the class is easy.Tests are based on the homework. If you do the homework , you won't feel the test is hard. A lot of extra credits on the final.
DONT MISS CLASS!!! manily because the material that is on the the quizes, midterm and final are what he covered in class only. missing one class session can result in low grade but over all the class was great. he likes to pick on people to answer questions and is very serious about his tree diagram.
I took Sigman for two honors classes. He requires you to read 3 novels and keep up with the class readings. There are 3 term papers based on the novels, and the tests are 1 part multiple choice and free response. I never read our textbook because he discussed everything in class. I recommend to read the novels but if you can't, read half of each.
Sigman's lectures are very interesting because he's so smart! He's extremely clear. He breaks down the material very well; if you listen, you'll get it. Take notes while he lectures! Too many students in my class did not take not which lead them to fail test after test. Sad, really. His test are based on his lectures and stories in the text book.
Took this online, it was very hard for me. I guess i should have taken other philosophy classes before this, the first half was pretty easy, if i had more time i probably could have earned a B but i got a C.
Sigman is a great professor he is fair on grading if you want to pass make sure to read the book. His tests are pretty easy they are based on his lectures so take good notes . I would take him again doesn't give homework at all . Only one term paper a midterm and final
Grades based on tests only! No HW! He doesn't need to explain in detail for you to understand. I have taken his class only online, but everything is pretty straightforward. If you have a question, just ask! As long as you are specific, instead of, "I don't get this" kind of post, then you'll get participation credit AND you'll get the help you need
5 week Summer course. Textbook and Access Card mandatory. Grade based on average of: 3 Aristotelean logic exams and 3 Modern logic exams. 3 mandatory discussion posts (easy). 1 exam/chapter. Lowest exam score was dropped. An A is possible, but not guaranteed. Reading is an absolute necessity and Youtube is your friend. Professor is fair.
Great Professor love his class! Currently taking him for spring semester. I thought I wasnt going to enjoy this class but I really do and he really takes the time to teach his students and help them understand. Total of 3 tests including final with lots of extra credit at the end pf each test. Read the book carefully and do the homework!
Very difficult professor for his online Logic class. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU ARE A PHILOSOPHY MAJOR!!!!! VERY DIFFICULT CLASS FOR THE AVERAGE STUDENT ESPECIALLY IF IT IS ONLINE AND BASED SOLEY ON THE BOOK. ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT CLASSES I HAVE EVER TAKEN JUST FOR A GE. AGAIN, DO NOT TAKE UNLESS A PHILOSOPHY MAJOR. I HAVE WARNED YOU ALL!!!
I loved this professor and enjoyed this class so much. He is very good at communication, teaching and always responds to all your e-mails in a very timely manner. The content is complex, but he helps you through it. Very glad I took logic with him. Highly recommend!!
Would not recommend his online class.
Messaged him but never bothered to reply or answer my question. Unfair grading and insults students. Wish I had never taken his class
Sigman is a terrific prof! I took him online for phil 6 & 8 and he was super helpful in both classes. He forces you to use a discussion page but that turned out to help a lot too. Follow directions and you'll save yourself extra work.
I don't think I would of even passed this class without professor Sigman's help. Instead I got an A!! His explanations made really hard ideas seem easy. He answered many private messages that I sent him and encouraged me to write out my thoughts on the discussion board. That helped so much! Not afraid of online classes now.
Great philosophy professor on campus! He does know his material very well, and explained it in a way that I can understand. This encouraged me to learn more philosophy and question life more. I would have gotten better grades on quizzes if I can grasp the material well enough, but it's okay for me. Would take again.
Took him for Winter, there's like 10-15 long assignments given to you every 3-4 days. Also don't bother asking him questions regarding his discussion requirement, he'll answer rudely. I emailed him and he responded using ALL CAPS telling me to read the module until I understand.
Took this professor during a 5 week summer session and I had to drop the 1 other class I was taking because of the flood of assignments from this guy. Combined exams, quizzes, and homework assignments were almost 100 things to do in 5 weeks Also, he will mass email everyone essays basically saying how stupid you all are
the work load was heavy but what else do you expect for a 5 week course it's not the same as taking a class in a period of 4mo, the syllabus is long but everything you need to pass the class is in there, participation you need at min 3 discussion in detail what you understood from the material read, do ALL assignments, no late work tolerated.
Waste of time taking his class. I took it online during winter session and totally wont recommend! Philosophy is boring as it is and he makes it more complicated and doesnt even bother helping you out or give postive feedback. alv....
Prof. Sigman truly wants to see his students succeed. Just do as you would do for any other class, read the material, don't skip class, take notes, etc. I came out of this class feeling 1000 times smarter and for that I am grateful. Just get ready to read!!
He talks about himself a lot and his travels. I dont care where hes been or anything except school. He needs to just stick to the class material and forget students care what his life is like outside of class.
(1) arrogant body language (2) reads off of slides or makes recordings of his lectures so he can sit and press play (3) asking a simple question offends him (4) brags about his travels (5) sometimes misses class or cuts class early (6) gives subtle euphemisms to insult students (7) too small to read slides and pictures are prohibited cuz "copying"
I dont recommend his class to my worst enemy. His class is very difficult if youre not into philosophy. The midterm is the hardest part since he gives you two essays to write in a short amount of time. Also hes a very arrogant man!
First off, its Phil 001. Its not supposed to be hard, its suppose to be easy to understand the material that is covered, lectures are off powerpoints, so everyone gets bored easily. Must buy book, take lots of notes, only 3 main exams, 2 with writing and a few small tests. You miss a day, you missed half of the section of his notes, beware! Cocky.
Philosophy one is boring because Sigman has made it torture for his students. He does not allow his students to use their laptops to take notes and they must hand write everything out, which is impossible because he talks fast! He also shows his PowerPoints very quickly so you wont have enough time to write everything down!
Look, don't take philosophy if you do not want a class with heavy writing and critical analysis. Philosophy is hard in general and if you are looking to fulfill G.E, I do not recommend taking this class. Although Sigman is cocky, he challenges you to question certain beliefs in order to expand your critical thinking skills. Class is not an easy A.
Took his class online. he is very vague on what the assignments have to be about and it is so much reading.. He also does not explain what you did wrong he just points it out and how bad the work you did is. It is clearly shown he odes not care for his students. Wasted my time, i would suggest a different philos professor.
Professor Sigman is a horrible professor if you choose to take his online class just don't. Every time I turned in an assignment he would write back rude comments about my work even though I tried. In one of the comments he basically said that I don't understand the use of language yet in order for me to do the exercises he posts for us.
Mr. Sigman doesnt allow phone usage during class and doesnt allow his PowerPoints to be seen outside of class, so taking a lot of handwritten notes is necessary in this class! He goes through the slides very quickly, so students need to write at a fast pace or else they wont get everything they need to know for exams.
Sigman is an excellent professor for serious students. If you don't do the assigned reading then you're gonna have trouble on the tests. His lectures and slides are super helpful if you've done your homework, but you cannot just rely on them alsone to pass the class.
Sooooooooo glad I took this online class with professor Sigman because he provided a clear trail through lots of different ideas and topics. I really liked his encouragement and all of the announcements that kept me on top of my homework. Follow the game plan & you'll be fine. Much better than the other prof I took the class with.
Very hard test , too much assignments
I dont recommend taking his class because of the exams. He makes u write a lot during the exams and u need to write two separate essays under an hour.
I would not recommend taking Professor Sigman for a class. He gives way too much work for you to complete usually most of the assignments are all due the same day which doesnt really give you time. I took this class for the summer it was a complete mess too much work and the exams and quizzes are way too hard.
Would not recommend this professor. He gives way too much work. I dont think he understands that college students have other priorities too his class was so hard and so much work. Too much for a philosophy class
Awful. The quizzes r so hard he gives WAY TOO MUCH HW and he leaves rude comments on assignments. I genuinely try on my assignments and all he does is grade them harshly and tell me what I cant do without giving me tips to fix it. This class was my enemy and would never take one of his classes again
Great Professor! What made the course challenging was the fast pace. I took a short summer session online. Manage your time wisely!!! (especially if you take a short semester) Quizes and exams are based of reading and HW. HW is very important for learning, practicing, and getting a feel for the material. Be responsible and you will pass!
I don't understand the bad reviews. You get what you sign up for. Prof. Sigman assigns a lot of reading and it takes critical thinking to understand the concepts. He explains everything wonderfully and provides lots of feedback on essays. He may seem intimidating but really he is just passionate about Philosophy and is actually very understanding.
Prof Sigman helped me pass a class that I already had failed twice. His homework comments made a huge difference and the ideas started making more sense to me. Even as an online class, the teaching was better than my other attempts. It's kind of a miracle that I passed logic!
Prof Sigman is a good lecture. He helped me pass this class without any problem.
I would like to express my appreciation for being a wise and amazing teacher who always dedicate his time to create positive learning experiences to help bring out the best in his students.
I loved this professor and enjoyed this class so much. He is very good at communication. Prof Sigman had help me pass a class that i already had twice. His homework comments made a huge difference and the ideas started making more sense to me.
My professor really gaves a good point of view which helps my curiosity answered and I satisfy on many of his opinion.
This is by far the most difficult GE I've taken in my undergrad. This class requires you to purchase or rent a book for $60, there are DOZENS of quizzes, lots of papers, and the tests are extremely difficult. The due dates make absolutely no sense. I would HIGHLY not recommended if you're looking for something easy. Professor has attitude, beware.
Honestly this professors online course unorganized. In total for the fall semester we had 22 quizes (each come with readings) We had 2 midterms, the second midterm was a week before the final!! As well, before every big unit test you have three quizes. You get to choose an essay or MC questions with 2 essay questions for your final. Best of luck
I took 8 week ethics class, work load was as expected: heavy but doable. Its the grading that I think is unfair. Example: expects u to be a film buff while explaining ur opinion of a movie. I wrote three papers on the last two weeks, lit classes dont even ask that much. I love philosophy but hes draining, lectures + feedback not v helpful
He is not very organized and makes you wait for assignments to be graded, i waited over a month for my mid tern grade, he makes us take two part mid term test and both in two parts. Gives quizzes on each chapter and makes you watch movies for assignments and gives no support on where to find them, i had to pay for streaming service for those films
the worst professor I have ever taken. I asked if I could make up the work I missed and he sent me a message indirectly calling me lazy, and dishonest. He also called high school a, "day-care" (I was a sophomore at a 4-year institution?) He insulted my work ethic and I can only imagine what other things he has said to his students.
He does it all on propose. Sure he may want you to learn at a "Berkley level" as he puts it. But it also does a overload of information. He tells you up front this is doable. But does not mention the amount of pressure he puts on students from the gate. This by far, is the worst class I ever enrolled in. LOATHED is an understatement.
This is the worst Professor I ever had. Hes rude and prejudice .
Prof Sigman was the best professor! All hmwk assignments get full credit & then invests extraordinary amount of time explaining any mistakes. He allows 3 attempts for each quizze, so its as easy to get an A as it is to get an F - logic is a challenging concept - it requires the same level of dedication as Prof Sigman. There are no shortcuts!
Sigman's class was great. He made everything really doable, and his essay comment feedback was beyond amazing. He's a real professor.
I wasn't very sure about signing up for Feminist Philosophy, but I had taken a class with Sigman before and it was great. I'm so happy that I trusted him because the feminism and gender class was even more interesting than my previous class with him. It's time to switch my major.
This guy is honestly one of the WORST professors I have ever had the displeasure to be in a class with. He doesn't teach and blames the issue of bad grades on his students, not his inability to explain. He is so condescending that every comment he makes on the home work makes you feel stupid. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Winter '22 Great, caring prof. He really wants you to succeed and understand the philosophical concepts. Lots of feedback for written assignments (3). A bit nitpicky with writings, but I wouldn't say tough grader at all. Workload was less than average. Gets 4 difficulty bc of the subject matter, not the professor. Responds quick & is understanding.
hella assignments out of the gate, and his grading felt like it got harsher as the session went on (took the class summer of 21)...his teaching style is awful...if you take formal logic with him i HIGHLY recommend looking up the "introduction to formal logic" playlist by mark thorsby
Sigman's class was clear from the 1st day, but you gotta read the syllabus. His lectures were very helpful, pointed out issues even the book did not cover. Always left me thinking for hours after, and I watched some of them 2 or 3 times. His comments on my essays were longer & more helpful than any I've ever gotten. He's passionate about learning.
When I got very busy at work, the professor helped me catch up with a personalized schedule. That kindness absolutely kept me from failing the class. The lectures and really great essay feedback made an impossible on your own class become understandable. He is great for our college.
Favorite class by far and favorite professor. He cuts through the junk and keeps the discussions animated. Not afraid to tell you his opinions when they are backed up by the facts presented to us. I would take this class ten times again!
-Good Professor if you're truly interested in the subject -grades fairly even when our opinions were different (which was often i think) -Clear and consistent grading criteria -Always gave fair and quick feedback to questions and concerns -Must stay on top of class weekly or you'll fall behind but everything is manageable and on a calendar
This was one of my favorite courses to take. The professor does give a lot of work and essay assignments, but it is manageable so long as you follow the class schedule. If you take this class, do not fall behind on the reading material or you will be lost during quizes or essays.
If you want a quality class, take Professor Sigman. He cares for the material being taught as well as his students' understanding. He'll give you honest feedback on your work. It's really up to you to make good use of it. I had a family emergency and couldn't turn in some assignments. He reached out and gave me a chance at saving my grade.
I took his class for winter and I remember staying up till 3 for 2 weeks straight trying to finish his work. I recommend not taking him during condensed semesters like summer or winter. He does respond to emails very well and is very helpful when it comes to technical issues.
Just dropped his online-only class, and so did half of the students not even 4 weeks in. Would not recommend it if you have other lecture-heavy classes or are working. His lectures are only available after you take a quiz on the concept, which I think is confusing since the texts are already hard to understand. But he seems like a cool teacher.
A challenging course with a heavy workload. The professor is knowledgeable but can be harsh in his feedback. Using tools like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of things. Recommended for serious students only.
Online winter course. A LOT of material/homework that needs to be done practically every day. Be prepared for a substantial amount of reading; otherwise, the content may not make sense. Difficult to take while working, but you can manage. Do NOT take this course if you will not be on top of your work, as it will pile up quickly. Great professor!
He doesn't understand how to use technology, he is pretentious. The class is essentially on autopilot.
Pretentious! long winded. Self-important
To be honest, he is the one who writes the “GOOD” comments. PRETENTIOUS SELF-IMPORTANT. Would I take this professor again? Nah! Never absolutely NOT.
Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs! Haragues students with mass emails about hunting down 'bots. Obsessed with 'bots...but doesn't respond to email from live students. Don't walk away, run.
