Awful teacher he centers the whole class on his experience in a third world country and his views. He acts like there are two third world countries on the planet and focuses on those two. The class is an elective and his expectations for it are absurd.

Good luck with this guy! It's either his way or the highway. Worst professor I've ever had. If you end up taking this class and can drop it do it immediately. I wish I did!

Unless you want your GPA to take an unnecessary hit, avoid this lecturer at all costs. His ego is unbelievable and offensive. His tests and paper directions are confusing and convoluted. His grading and attendance policy is ridiculous. He doesn't know what he's doing, and you'll suffer for it. This is by far the worst experience I've had at CSU.

Have had my fair share of bad profs but he is by far the worst. He is condescending, egotistical, and oh dont forget to call him "DR". His grading is unbelievably difficult for a 200 level. I generally agree with his political assertions but he is so one sided, it is hard for me to even deal with. Avoid Avoid Avoid.

His quiz and test questions make little sense,the attendance policy is horrible and over directed is a good way to describe the final paper. Also treats people poorly. The guy wants perfect work from students but his own work is just awful. Hard to beleive he is a phd and gets hired anywhere. At least he thinks a lot of himself.

If you think having your own opinion is acceptable, then don't take this class. Makes you feel ashamed to live in the US. Personal vendettas are this guys code. For example, I turned in my girlfriends paper who took the class the semester before. She got an A- and I received a D.

You can tell that he is very passionate about the topic, BUT is extremely self-centered. He is very confusing when explaining things, and doesn't make connections between topics in class. Interesting topic, but his personality ruins it.

Absolutely the WORST class I have ever taken in college. Rude, doesnt want the students to succeed, boring, doesnt care about anybody just himself. Hard to understand what he means, confusing. He seems to give certain students more time to answer extra credit questions. He likes to cut people off when they're talking. Extremely rude. Doesn't answer my questions, he simply replies "it's in your book" How am I suppose to understand the material if you don't answer my questions. Very inconsiderate. Very rude. Just terrible.

I expect an A, but I still can not STAND Soc210. His tests are horribly written (MC may range A-G) and he often gives pop quizzes with fill in the blank. He offsets his basic and easy material by throwing trick questions on tests and constantly stressing how "complex" every concept is. Easy material but you need to fight for an A. (don't skip)

Worst class I've ever taken. Tests are horribly written with many questions coming out of his own book that he wrote that include tiny details & quotes that are impossible to remember when reading a chapter thats 60+ pages. He gives copious amounts of EC bc he knows his class is unrealistic and even that won't help your grade. Attendance is crucial

One word: AWFUL! Avoid him as much as possible. His quizzes & exams are complex. He is so disrespectful, he doesn't even put the effort in pronouncing your name right. Get ready to ready an unclear textbook and listen to corny jokes as well. Also, don't be surprised if he calls you out.

Trick questions on tests. Fill in the blank quotes on tests. Dont expect a good grade if you miss more than 2 classes and don't do the extra credit. Horrible experience. 0/10 Do not recommend

The absolute worst professor I have ever had. This guy is not even open to discussing any viewpoint besides his own, and if you attempt to do so he will shut you down and demean you in front of the entire class. All multiple choice tests with options A-F. What happened to A-D? This is an intro level class. He wrote the textbook with multiple typos.

Took this course as a Gen Ed, and it was one of the most difficult classes I've taken. He is very unclear and confusing. The only reason I passed was from extra credit. Make sure you don't miss any classes and do extra credit assignments. Also very rude, interrupts you when you're talking and does not care about students

Worst professor I've ever had. He's disrespectful and refuses to answer questions. He seems like he doesn't know what he's talking about and isn't qualified to teach the class. The textbook that he wrote sounds like it was written by a child. Full of grammatical and spelling errors.

Attendance is mandatory and he'll often take attendance before the class has even begun. He requires his textbook, but it is poorly written. He makes the whole class responsible for the actions of one student (having phone out). He does offer extra credit though so it's absolutely passable.

Very tough and meticulously. Relies heavily on textbook that he wrote. Very boring lectures. sometimes funny. A lot of extra credit. Overall he's a hard professor for a very easy class, makes things harder than it needs to be.

Tough class. Though he gives you chances for extra credit, he also used those as opportunities to mess you up. If everyone is on time to class, everyone gets 2 points. In a college class, this is rare and you get the idiots who are regularly late. Second, no cell phone use for points. Again, kids are kids and gonna break these rules. Killed my GPA

Dr. Skladany attempts to make this class enjoyable through ancedotal stories, but he falls short of the mark. If you are taking soc 101 and are interested in the field of study he will ruin it for you. Average test score was something under 60 percent because he did this definition matching method. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS, RUINED SOCIOLOGY FOR ME.

Overall a disappointing experience, no outside of class engagement besides readings for which you had no idea what would be on the exams or quizzes. It is like he teaches to a higher level than what a 100 level class should entail. PLEASE TAKE 101 WITH ANOTHER PROFESSOR. his test giving method will tank your gpa.

He does not care what you nay have going on outside of class. You are graded on test and quizzes. No homework is given. His study guides are horrible and only cover half the test if that. Example " Theorists Hendershot (3Q) Social Constructivism (3Q) " Getting good grades in this class is possible I've seen people do it but it's not for me.

DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! Lot's of extra credit is given, however depends on if everyone is to class on time and if everyone does not use their phones. Note cards are given for each test, however they are only awarded bonus points if you completely fill it out, and half of the study guide is not even on the test. All grades are test and quiz based.

Dont take him! He makes his class much harder then it should be. You are only graded on tests and quizzes. You have NO idea on whats going to be on them so good luck. He does offer extra credit but its for things that just wont happen like +2 points for no one walking in late, its a college class someone will walk in late everyday. Ruined my GPA.

Didnt like him at all. Lectures are awful, even online lectures. You wont find answers on internet, sometimes feels like the stuff hes saying not even real because you literally wont find it anywhere but his book which is also kind of expensive

This man thinks all of his students only take his class. The second you turn in one assignment, he'll give you two more before class has even started. He contradicts himself so much. His lectures are way over everyone's head. DOESNT TEACH, all he does is assign the longest articles for us to read that are way beyond our intelligence. NO GOOD!!

If you are interested in learning the most irrelevant, useless, out of date, and downright time wasting knowledge... then a Skaldany class is perfect for you!! Especially if you enjoy wasting 10-15 hours a week on expansive assignments that are completely irrelevant to anyones major or career then this class is exactly what you need. Best advice!!

don't do it. there are only four major grades, midterm draft/midterm and final paper draft/final. both are worth a lot of points and the professor grades like you're in grad school

This professor will ask very broad questions. One day hell ask what was the Cold War. The answer would be a war between USA and Soviet union. Next week he would ask the same question but want a whole different answer without asking a specific question. Requieres to buy a binder to take notes with the Cornell method and will fail youanyotherway

You can't learn in that class. All of his work is based on his poorly given lectures, his awfully written textbook, and his senseless slides and pictures. He will talk to you like you're special needs. You get quizzes every 2 weeks and you can't study in his class. You need to know almost everything the professor does in order to pass. 0/5

I wish I had never taken this course. He talks to you like children, and you can't even get a full sentence out when he calls on you because he interrupts you constantly. Exams and quizzes are ridiculous and you won't have a clue what's going on if you don't pay 100% full attention at all times and read the entire bs textbook.

Had high expectations for 100-level classes. The class had four exams, six quizzes, and six discussion posts that required you to answer. The grading for discussion posts sometimes contradicts itself

Very difficult class you must pay attention to pass!! You also have to do well on the discussion posts and write what he wants to hear to pass. Not a bad teacher just needs to loosen up for it being a 101 class.

Do all in your power to avoid this man. He tells us not to smoke, yet smokes a cigarette before each class. His discussion posts are harder than my SOC 201 class's are. He treats it like a 500 level class an no one should have to drop out of an INTRO class because it's too difficult. If you miss a lecture, you are screwed. MANDATORY notebook check.

I warn you to never take a course with him. His 101 class is to demanding, his discussion post are ridiculous no matter how hard you try he will not give a good grade at all. The students feel he's making his class purposefully hard so you fail. He doesn't like when if you ask for change claims he knows what he's doing. Overall awful class.

He does not teach what is in the textbook. He may use micro-agressive words to degrade you in class if he does not like your discussions.

Accounting major and needed a SOC class so I took this. One of, if not the worst class I have taken at Cleveland State so far. Zero electronics policy and mandatory note taking on Powerpoint slides. Surprisingly offers a decent amount of extra credit. Besides that, this class is huge waste of time, money, and brain cells. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Do not take this class with this professor. This professor was rude in the emails he sent to me after giving me an f on EVERY critical writing assignment. The only time he gave me a good grade was at the end of the semester but it did not help and I finished the course with a D. Thanks to this instructor, my GPA has to suffer.

If you really care about everything happens out there. Take it. He will give you a tons of knowledges which you dont know about it. He also help improve critical thinking and patient skill as well. lol. Discussion assignments are terrible if you re not ready to take an adventure. Btw, he gives you tons of credit too, so no worries. Good luck!

Save yourself the headache of never taking this class. All of my classmates have agreed that he is arrogant. You cannot interpret the material with your own mind, you must think exactly like him. Very discouraging. I learned nothing because I was so worried about my interpretation being wrong to him. There is no way to pass with an A.

This is the worst professor/teacher I've EVER had. He does mandatory note checks for a grade, randomly calls on you in class and makes you feel dumb if you don't know the answer, makes it almost impossible to get a good grade on essays/discussion posts because of his grading style, and many more. If you can avoid this guy, DO IT!!!! trust

Overall a very arrogant and pretentious professor. The sociology 101 textbook used is called "Sociology in Action" which is a literal call to action -- a left-wing political manifesto. He forces you to write notes in a terrible format. He talks down to adults as if they are special needs children. Do yourself a favor and choose another class.

He is honestly one of, if not the most, rudest proffesor I have ever taken. He isn't there to help, he is there to harshly critize your work and make you feel incompetent. It's really unfortunate that there are educators who have no compassion for their students, only the subject they teach. I honestly wish to never take a class with him ever again

His class was my first ever as a freshie. When I arrived with my notebook, he aimlessly fiddled through my stuff, “you'll never succeed in college like this!” he said upon many other demeaning comments in front of the class. It's been over a year since & now I'm on the dean's list and in honors program. Oh, and I did it all using a notebook, too :3

Skladany is very experienced in his field. He bore witness to the Cambodian Genocide firsthand. The problem is that he demands you take notes his way and they are graded. I dropped out very quickly. (Course taken 2023/2024 school year)

He was a horrible professor and he seems like he has a chip on his shoulder to fail everyone in his class. Don't ever take him . He wants us to not care about letter grades because we should be more focused on learning so he makes it extremely challenging to get a good grade. RUN RUN RUNNNN!!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!!

I took this class as a pre-med student and this class was harder than every other class I am taking. He grades unfair and tough and he believes this class is the most important class. He does not like our online section and our average is barely above passing, and was super unorganized and I would not recommend.

DO NOT TAKE IF NOT FULL TIME STUDENT. He had 4 exams, 2 discussion boards, 1 large writing assignment, and 2 mandatory zoom dates. The final and large writing were 45% of final grade. Only had the exam dates outlined on syllabus, all other assignments were on a week to week basis. Looks for VERY specific verbiage. Might be a good in person class.

He's a VERY tough grader. I would not take him again at all, I wish I would've picked a different professor for this intro class. Everyone in the class complains about him!

He is condescending and who ever tells you that it's not his fault for your bad grade don't be gaslighted. Unless you're willing to feed his ego do not take this course, he constantly talks about how he fails so many students almost likes it bragging. He can't organize an online course. Don't let him waste ur tuition money.

He doesn't care about your personal life ,he just want his work turned in on time at all cost. He is a hard grader and doesn't really elaborate on the assignments.

He's lecture-heavy and requires handwritten notes in a strict format. He dislikes technology, so no devices are allowed. He calls on students for points, and his pop quizzes are unclear. I had to drop out because my accommodations weren't allowed. If you have an IEP, avoid his classes.

Dr.S is an extremely hard grader. A lot of my peers complained about how hard of a grader he was. Class was mandatory or you miss out on bonus points which you will need if you wanna pass his class.Seemed like nothing was good to him unless it was directly from him. His TA was amazing but over all extremely hard don't take if you have a IEP!
