Awesome teacher !, He is great at explaining everything as easy as he can. He relates to the students and his classroom is comfortable to learn in. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is taking a math class.
this is the best teacher one can get in the math. he does everythig to get explained and teaches with fun. i got A in his class jst studing a litle because he makes everything easy and gives enough time to study, i would recomend to take his class.
He is an awesome teacher. i really recommend him esp. for Calc.
I thought he was a great teacher. I detest math and he really helped me get through it. VERY FAIR GRADER. Tests are pleasantly doable. NO SURPRISES IN THIS CLASS- he is very upfront (which is great) he tells you exactly what he is expecting and will help you to reach those expectations via any means within his power. RECOMMENDED!
Michael was a good teacher and i'm glad I took his class. He was very knowledgable and helpful. Attendance isn't mantatory and if you're late DON'T go to class. He takes off attendance for tardies and not if your absent, but It is a regular math class with hw and tests. I would recommend him.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Excellent teacher. Each class has thorough lesson plan, he executes the plan and provides great notes. If you go to class and put in the time on homework, his test will not be anything unexpected.
This is the best teacher you could ever have for Calc. He explains everything and his tests are what you expect. RECOMENDED
He's the only math professor at COD worth taking, an absolute teaching genius! You have to be on time, but if that isn't already part of your habits you're screwed anyway. I passed the class without a textbook because all the homework can be done on calcchat.com. I failed calc 4 times before but passed with Stack - if you suck at math he's the man!
crystal clear when explaining concepts! and loves his job.. outgoing person and likes to help anybody in need.. tests are easy if u do homework.. the format of the quiz is like the homework.. finals is a breeze u can make a 1 page cheat sheet but only 25 items so it is still relevant to study and practice solving.. HIGHLY Recommended.
He's a great teacher! He's nice, explains everything thoroughly, and is willing to help all the time. You can tell he loves his job 110%. This class was weighted on 4 tests and a final. If you go to class, pay attention, do the homework, then you'll be fine. I would highly recommend him to anyone!
Professor Stack is the best teacher I have ever had. He explains the material very well and is extremely helpful. He even helped me when I was in a math class with a different instructor! He does everything he can to make sure you succeed!! HE IS AWESOME!
honestly work work work work work hard in this class you will get screwed in the end if you try to take the easy way out. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!! PRACTICE PRACTICE. i personally didn't like him b.c he played favorites and does not round and SHOW ALL WRK he takes points off even if u have right answer and didnt show ALL wrk.BAD BAD!!
Great teacher, genuinely cares about helping the student learn! Gives notes in detail that are directly applicable to homework and tests. If you go to class, do the homework, then his tests have problems directly from the homework. Make sure you understand your homework,if not, ask! He is very accessible and approachable.
he is a good teacher ,but he is kind of tough , he has 4 exams and a final ,you have to do the homework to get ready for the tests , if you take it easy you will get screwed , he is a tough grader as well he takes off points even if you have just one sign wrong in the final answer ,in the end he is a good teacher do the HOMEWOOORKKKKK!!!
Really good teacher. If your taking calculus and worried that you will have trouble i recommend this class. Attendance is optional but is a must to pass. He doesn't collect homework but its a must too. If you show up and do all of the homework and reviews the tests will be very similar the reviews. Easy to understand and a great math teacher.
I had already taken all 3 calculus before so I kinda know what a good math professor is, and trust me Stack is an excelent calculus teacher. Explanations are very clear and classes arent tedious tho he doesnt allow any distractions. Take his class only if u want to learn math, but if it's ONLY for the General req. then don't.
Mr.Stack is THE BEST teacher. He explains so clearly and is there for you when ever you need help. attendance is mandatory. you will not learn if your not in class. He is not an easy teacher but if you work hard you will learn so much in his class and get a good grade. I definately recommend him . Great teacher and a great guy.
Worst teacher ever. Please don't take him.
VERY GREAT TEACHER! He is sooo clear in his instructions...man i need this guy to teacher more math! He's grrreat! Very kind btw! :)
So you DO have to some work for his class, but that's what you have to do for every math class! He is very good with instructions and explains very well. Also, he is there to help! Very approachable guy! I would take him again!
His tests are exactly the same as the homework in the book and what we are doing in class. BUT the problem is that he takes off points really easy and he doesn't give enough partial credit if you mess up something but you know how to solve it you'll get 1/5 points...
he loves to fail. There are no extra credit opportunities. His classes are all about work and lot's of course compass. Even if your practice, complete course compass and study the notes thoroughly you will still fail because he's a tough grader.
Mr Stack is a very good teacher...His lectures are pure gold...Very thorough and easy to understand. I thought he's fair at grading...He wants hi students to do good in class and he does everything in his power to help you do your best...To succeed do the HW and pay attention in class. Calc 1 is a hard class....don't underestimate it...do the work
I took him for precalc 1 and i noticed he changed his approach for his students on calc 1 class... He is not so lenient on calc, but still he explains things clearly... pay attention in class do the homework understand it, rather than just rote memory and u ll do good!
Worst teacher ever. You will fail so dont take this teacher.
I took this class as an internet class & Mike was AWESOME as far as being accessable. It's math, so you DO need to study & study hard, but he emailed his students at least weekly, and when I would email him a question, he would ALWAYS respond within 24 hours. WONDERFULLY helpful! He constantly encouraged us to come to him with ANY questions!
Excellent professor - great lecturing style, clear-cut and detailed examples, and many handouts to practice on. Stats WILL get tough at the end, but he is very approachable and really wants committed students to succeed. Tests get progressively harder, but if you keep up, you'll be rewarded for it.
Online - Stack is way to hard when it comes to grading, you can miss a negative and still get the whole problem wrong. He needs to ease it up, when your taking an online class its alot harder than taking a inclass class, so my recommendation would be to take someone else, because if your not completely clear when it comes to math, then your f****d.
Very good teacher. lectures are very clear and helpful. If you pay attention and do all your homework, the test is very manageable. Not hard to get a good grade, just need to work hard. Attendence is not mandatory but is strict on attending classes on time but he gives a 5 minute grace period. once the door is close, you can't come in tho. take him
The unit exams were proctored. The only pitfall that I have experienced with him is that his grading was a bit harsh for the unit exams. The first unit, he ended up making the class avg. for the Unit 1 exam 56% and my exam was a 61% for the first unit, even though I was getting A's on my homework and B's on my quizzes for that unit.
He is extremely harsh grader, take off so many points for minor mistakes. 1 quiz 50 points, 4 exams and 1 final exam 150 points. No HW points to back you up so if you fail on test too bad so sad. No extra credit. He will lock you out if you come late for class, lecture start at 10 he will close the door at 10:00. I wouldn?t recommended for anyone
For this semester, Stack was the best option to take for Calc I. Unfortunately, I ended up with a HARSH grader; especially in attendance. According to his syllabuss, if you come in late to class and knock on the door or come in as you please, not only will he drop you from his class but you'll receive an F for the entire semester!!! DON'T TAKE HIM!
Good professor for stats but very harsh in attendance. Homework not graded but recommended to do well. If you go to class and practice somewhat, an A is reachable definitely a B! Test are hit and miss. All depends on the student and study habits. If you take class serious then no problems.
Roughly 2/3 of the students stayed with him until the final. It seems as if people were generally pleased with him, apart from the rough grading. 4 Tests + Final exam, and 1 quiz. HW is assigned but not collected. He likes to joke but strict on tardiness. He is a pleasant person with a well-planned teaching style. Expect to be challenged.
Took his online class and liked it. I only needed his help once, but he responded to my e-mail in detail in under an hour. Seemed like a nice guy. It also seemed like he graded way better than I deserved, but he didn't return our tests so I don't know for sure. Great test reviews and one test had an at home portion. No extra credit though.
I took his class online. It's a lot of homework. The website lets you check your answer for homework and gives you as many chances to get it right for full credit. quizzes you can retake twice. and there were about 5 tests that had to be at the testing center. In the end I got a 68% and he would not raise my grade :/ had a 75% before that.
The class mainly ran itself so I can only really comment on it rather than him, but his class was very easy. There were a couple homework assignments due every week but they were pretty easy and you can try as many times as you need. I only needed to talk to him once but when I did he responded quickly. I recommend if you can remember to do work.
Professor Stack is the BEST teacher I have ever had. He reviews the necessary info from algebra and trig at the beginning of each lesson. He is always available and goes out of his way to help you understand the material. He is very clear, organized, and concise with his lessons. He can be strict with punctuality, but come to class and you are good!
This guy was really cool and could take a joke. He knew his stuff and was understanding of different learning styles. He is a bit harsh on grading but your math is either right or its not and he holds you to that. I would recommend him.
Prof. Stack was a solid teacher, he knows what he's talking about and how to explain it. Down to earth and very helpful. He expects you to work for it though.
Professor Stack is by far the best math professor I have had at COD. He is always available and wants to help you succeed. He explains things clearly and makes sure each student participates so no one falls behind. His lectures are heavily related to test material. All the test questions come straight from the extra book hw, so make sure you do it
Anyone that's taken an online class especially a math one knows what to expect. The class is mostly a computer run class with hw & quizzes being done on the mcgraw hill website & the tests(5 including midterm) were taken at a test center & were the only things actually graded by him. Met with him once to take home graded tests &he seemed nice.
A very good Calculus 1 professor. The man is well admired by his students while at the same time pushing them to do well in his class. It is a Calculus class, so good effort is required regardless of the professor. I would take him again if possible. Just make sure you are not late for class. The man is infuriated by tardiness, for good reason.
This class was doable and homework was also very reasonable. Test were all done at the testing center. However,at the end of the semester, I was very disappointed: when getting all my tests back from him I noticed that full points were taken off multiple problems where my answer was totally correct.
It's online math, usually the teacher's not a factor. But I emailed him a lot and got consistently quick responses. He keeps office hours religiously and seemed happy to help every time I dropped in or called. He does expect you to work, and won't care about any excuses you have for not doing so. Strict in that regard.
Really harsh on the grading, very OCD gives little to no partial credit. The entire class grade is based on 4 tests and that's it.
Very tough grader, he is OCD about every little thing you make, so you get points off for stupid stuff. 4 tests and the final + the homework. Very knowledgeable in his field, however you need to work your ass off in order to do well in the class. Textbook is required for homework, even though he doesn't check it.
I think he's a great teacher, I would stay after lecture countless times just to discuss proofs and different concepts because he knew so much and math always intrigued me even though I'm not a math major. If you truly enjoy math he's a great guy to teach you, but if you don't just get it or work for it, you won't do well. It's not easy for all.
Great teacher, knows math, not an easy grader, forget a negative sign on your final answer and your lucky if you get any partial credit whatsoever. doest give you a break, got 79.6%, would raise grade at all.
As others have stated, he is very OCD, a tough grader, won't give you any breaks, and will lock you out of class if you're late or leave to use the restroom during class. If you don't get something and ask a question during class he will call on you the rest of class to help him solve examples on the board. Avoid at all costs.
Very knowledgeable about the subject, but tests are pure nightmare fuel. Miss one problem and you'll lose up to a tenth of the grade. Lectures are long and tedious. You are not allowed to take any breaks, be it a bathroom break or for water. Very helpful outside of class though. Don't take this course if Calc is not your forte.
Michael Stack is a great online professor to have. Yes you have to go to campus for the tests (but not quizzes) but he grades the tests faster than any of my other professors have (grade is in the next weekday). Textbook is also on the website you go to for this class. Great suggestions. If there's a problem you're having he is glad to help.
Probably your best bet for calc 2 at COD. Understand and do ALL your homework thoroughly. I seriously don't remember a single question on any test or quiz not similar to the homework assigned. Grade is completely based off of test grades and quiz grades. Final is cumulative and is worth 30% of the grade and can replace lowest quiz/test grade.
I can go 50/50 with this professor. Not punctual? Procrastinator? don't like pop quizzes? then I highly suggest you DONT take him. Stack is a very hard grader and doesn't believe in partial credit. If you missed a class and go to him to clarify things on missed topic, be prepared for him to emphasize how 'bad' you are for missing. (clear lectures)
Stack is the one of the best professors I've ever had in college! He's a tough grader, but you will learn the material so well because he teaches in a way that makes it easy to learn and he really knows his stuff. I wish I could take him for more math classes.
He is a great professor. Makes the concepts very clear and understandable, and he is very approachable. He also cares a lot about your success. Very open to help. However, he can also be really strict. Like others said, he is a stickler for punctuality and attendance. He is also a really tough grader but if you do the work, you should be fine.
Prof. Stack is one of the best Professors I met at COD. He responded to my email questions all the day and nights. He explained every detail to me by email. I couldn't go to his office and he did his best to answer my questions by email. I did my best and had 98% on his test. What I advice is try to understand the Math not memories.
Awful professor. Took his class online. Your grade is based on 4 tests fail one of them and you're screwed. Homework and quizzes play a very small role in your grade. Give no partial credit on any test and often times marks correct answers wrong.
Course relied on tests and quizzes. He didn't explain things that well. Very strict, overly strict... You miss a day? Too bad. Doesn't matter if you're sick, you missed a quiz so you failed it. His justification for this was he removes one quiz from your final grade, so one singular day allowed to miss is somehow enough. Not an understanding man
Stressed me out way to much. Went to class sick just so I wouldn't be scared of missing a pop quiz. Felt like a class from the 80's my parents would tell me about where the class was insanely strict. Its the 21st century, we don't need to use scare tactics on students. Students should be comfortable in the class room, not scared to be sick and fail
Way to strict. Doesn't even make sense why he is so hard on his students. The environment of his classroom oozes anxiety and stress. Avoid!
Prof. Stack is an amazing person. He is caring about his students. He gave me immediate feedback every single time I emailed him. He welcomed me in his office to explain anything I didn't understand. His tests depend on understanding and analysis of the material. His course helps me a lot at physics class. Working hard and understand the material.
Do all of the homework and study and you are guaranteed to get an A. Tests and (pop) quizzes are all on problems related to / exactly the same as the homework. Best math teacher I've had in my life
Mr Stack is everything you would want in a math professor. He's organized and explains the material in a way that's easy to understand. He will make you work for your grade, but he also makes it possible to do well by making his tests contain questions similar to assigned homework problems. Pop quizzes consist of one hw prob. Exams are doable.
His pop-quizzes are EZ to get used to & help prevent procrastination. Those & the tests are all based on the hmwk Qs, so really do them even if u don't get points for it. Worst 2 quizzes are dropped & final replaces worst test. His lectures aren't too hard to follow, like a faster paced Prof. Leonard w/ many examples. He's also big on office hours.
Do not take him!!!!
He will make you really understand the content and earn your points. He is the best math lecturer I have had yet, but the exams and quizzes (12 pop ones throughout the semester, 2 are dropped) are graded harshly. Very little partial points are given. He is great at explaining things and is great during office hours. Just come in ready to work!
Smart professor! Lectures were engaging and easy to follow so pay attention and take notes. He loves questions and wants to see you work for your grade but its definitely reasonable. He's great at explaining and uses logic to help you understand. Quizzes and tests were based off lectures but mainly homework questions so nothing is a surprise.
Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!! Mr Stack is very harsh and expects too much from his students. 6 of the first 8 classes in the semester had pop quizzes. He is not understanding and makes learning way too stressful and anxiety inducing. By far the worst teacher I've had. This is the nightmare teacher that you hear about in urban legend folklore.
Professor Stack is a nice guy but he takes math very seriously. The first month or so we had a pop quiz everyday at the beginning of class, if you were late and missed the quiz, it just went in as a zero. He's a great teacher, but you HAVE to work for your grade. Not really a lot of chances for extra credit, but he's a fair grader.
Do not take him. Does not care about his students wellbeing at all. Im having technical issues and I have no idea when it will be resolved. I had been emailing letting him know I was having issues and his response was "this is why you should stay ahead". Missed deadline cause of said issues and asked if I could get credit again somehow. Said NOPE
This teacher is terrible. Literally has no empathy for his students and feels like he doesnt want them to succeed. You can ace all the homework but since hes so picky on grading your tests youll probably get a bad grade. I would never wish this teacher upon my worst enemy. Find someone else if you have the chance.
Clearly knows his material, it's how he imparts that knowledge on the student. Definitely do not take him online. There are short videos that are no substitute for a proper lecture. States to read the book - no real "visual" instruction. Extremely strict, even with tech issues. You can be stern and be understanding of many issues in this pandemic.
Michael Stack is a great at teaching and lecturing, however what he expects from students is unrealistic for most. He handed 7 pop quizzes in a row, just so he could get the quizzes over with before the semester ended, but the worst is his black or white policy on grading. Either you get a problem completely wrong or completely right.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR ONLINE. This professor sounds like a nice guy in person from the past review that I read, but he does not teach or care about his students in online classes. He expects WAY TOO MUCH from his students, and does NOT TEACH US ANYTHING. I had to teach myself all the material, and this class cause me way too much stress.
Terrible professor for an online class. Do no take this professor, unless you want to teach yourself all the material, have a professor that does not care about you, and have the most stressful semester.
Nice Professor with state forward grading systems. He will reply your email really quickly and also solve your queries. Just be careful with the projects as he wanted his submitted projects be perfect even he has mention that in his syllabus. Otherwise easy to medium exams. I will take this professor in future.
He is a tough person, hard to deal with, his lecture so complicated and so heavy. He either doesn't know the curriculum or doesn't know how to explain it. I did all that he asked for but I had C-. Don't advise anyone with him. I'll not take him again even he is the last professor at COD.
He is hard to deal with, a stopper, and a tough person. No way to understand what he wants from you. His goals and expectation are unclear. The tests and quizzes are so complicated, and he is a tough grader. Skip Skip Skip.
I took AP calc AB but dropped this class. He is a tough teacher, if you really want to do good get a good eraser and pencil and he is only accessible on campus emailing him is not worth it. I definitely recommend using match assistance. It took way too much effort to do good even though I had so much help. Tbh textbook was also confusing use youtub
Tons of homework every night that he only collects 5 homework segments total on random days, offers partial credit but is very tough grading tests and partial credit can be as little as 1/10 for doing over half the full problem correct. Accessible outside of class but some questions you can do exactly what he says to do on tests and get it wrong.
Expectations are almost always unachievable for students, very difficult to understand what he wants from you on tests. Rushes through lectures and expects students to have prior knowledge about concepts not taught in previous classes. Most of the material you will end up having to teach yourself. Expect an outrageous amount of homework per night.
Stack was the first calc professor I had. He seems to be someone with high expectations from his students and always rushes through lectures, so it's hard to keep up with him. He isn't set on homework due dates as well, but be sure to get as much done before the tests or else you won't do well.
Very fast paced lecturer (at least during the summer). Be on time or you'll be locked out for around ten minutes! We had boatloads of homework, but he did use the questions to build tests so there are no surprises. Definitely recommend office hours if you need anything explained. Be prepared for a class-long commitment if you raise your hand once.
Mr. Stack is an interesting teacher. On one hand, he is very good at math, and knows his material very well, and teaches them in an effective manner. On the other hand, he is extremely strict, both in grading and in attendance. He takes all the points off of a question if you get a single thing wrong, and locks you out of the room if you are late.
At first I thought he was gonna be a rough professor, but all he really wanted was for people to be one time for class and to do their homework and get help when needed. He is strict on coming on time, but he does explain things well and is accessible out of class. The tests are mirrors of what was on the hw. Overall, a good professor.
Professor Stack has the potential to be a great teacher, but he butchers this by implementing the worst policies in his classes. I took Calculus BC in my junior year of high school, and I struggled to get an A because his test material was unfair and harshly graded. This and his homework policy were a recipe for student failure. (2/3 drop out).
While the professor does a great job in lectures, his excessively harsh grading and policies (even for a college Calculus class) make it difficult for anyone to pass. By the end only 10 things are counted as grades, with a few random homework collects, no quizzes, and locking people out for either being late or using the restroom being very common.
Stack is a great professor if you can commit to being on time and showing up to class everyday. There's a lot of hw but only some of it is counted for homework checks. Lectures are taught very well and while there is not very many tests and no quizzes and not much review guides his office hours are a great resource and he cares a lot about calc
I did all the homeworks attend all his lectures but I refused to go to his office whe. he asked me, this why I had F, he failed me in all his tests. I afraid to complain he use his power to destroy my academic carrier. I hate this person.
Michael Stack is a pretty rough professor, strict rules, and tough grading. I do not recommend him for Calc 1.
His lectures are really good. There aren't a lot of points available so every point missed does affect your grade quite a bit. Tests are short and somewhat easy. Homework is absolutely necessary. He HATES when you are late. If you slack off then this class may not be for you; however, if you stay on top of things you should be fine.
I ended up failing this class but he tried his best to help me. he's heavy on meeting him in his office hours. tough grader. he's an okay teacher, if your very good at math then take him, if not, i do NOT recommend. Also very strict.
Worst calc 2 professor at COD.
Taking this professor was the worst decision ever. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIM!
VERY STRICT, very harsh no phones policy and harsh no lateness policy (If you show up you will have to wait outside of class until a designated time to knock on the door, if you show up later than that you cannot get into class). Great lectures and always willing to help students though! LOTS OF HW
I took this class already knowing the material, so it was very easy. He has some strange rules like you have to be in class at 4:30 and if your late you have to wait and knock on the door, and you can only go to the bathroom during the break. But he was very clear when teaching and gave many examples. Made math very easy to understand. NO TECH!
Professor Stack is a phenomenal teacher. You can tell he is passionate and knowledgeable about the contents of the course. If you actually want to learn calculus (with effort), take this class. My only complaint is the lack of points (400 total), sometimes resulting in one missed problem on the test being the difference between two grades.
He is a tough grader and is very strict about his phone policy, if you're late you have to wait outside the classroom for 15 minutes. Overall nice guy and is good at teaching. Expect while reviewing, if no one volunteers to answer the question on the board he skips over it without explaining it.
The professor has high expectations, but if you stay engaged and use helpful resources like unstuck ai, you can succeed. He's strict but fair, and the exams reflect the homework.
Professor stack is a very by the book and lecture heavy professor. He encourages going to his office hours; do so to ensure a full understanding of his lectures and get to know him even better. There is only 400 points offered, so it can be very hard to raise your grade once dropped even a little. Main takeaway, stay on top of everything.
He's really good at teaching. If you are a slow learner he goes step by step and is really easy to understand and will take time to make sure you understand. While he may have strict and slightly questionable rules for his class it doesn't outshine how well he teaches.
poor performance, very mean, hangry
Explains the content thoroughly but is a tough grader and overall really petty. He will kick you out if you're on your phone or lock you out of class if you're late.
Do not take!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3/4 of the class dropped, not worth the money!
Do not take this class he is terrible. He will lock you out of class if your one second late. can't turn in homework one second late. very particular with how homework is formatted. if you answer one question, he will continue to cold call on you for the rest of the semester. I studied every day for hours and still got 30 percent on both tests.
will lock you out if you're a second late to class & watch you stand in the window as your peers turn in their homework & give you a 0 for not. took 2 points off my test because I forgot the negative sign (tough grader).Idk if he makes his own exams but they are HARD/Long.I transferred out of COD& got an A in college algebra.COD math department <<<
I wrote this review after graduating from engineering college and now doing my MS in Engineering at one of the big-name universities because of this professor. I took four courses with him. His class taught me to work hard and show my best potential. He is caring, honest, and very helpful, he helped me many times in his office hours. Thank you!
He's very old school so you won't be allowed any technology inside class and will lock you out if you're late but he's a very caring teacher and loves his students. If you ask any questions he will make sure you understand it even if it's after class. You MUST do the homework and attend lectures otherwise you will get behind very quickly.
He's a good teacher but very strict. You have to be there on time not a second late. random hw checks and tough grader on tests.
He's pretty strict with his policies (locks you out if you're a second late, or if an electronic device of yours is visible to him). You have to put in a lot of work to (sometimes barely) pass. However, if you pass his class, you will certainly be ready for your next math course. Only take him if you're prepared to put in the work from day one.
