Good teacher, class well paced, makes you work a bit— he's fond of quizzes
doesn't care about you at all
Good instructor. Easy class if you follow along.
Either his way or it's wrong/ unfair/ assumes you know everything already
great teacher, always asked how we were doing and for questions
At first I didn't like him because he is tough, but he is a good teacher.
had no right telling a student he was a failure
helpful but told my friend he was going to be a failure and i didn't like that
Tests are very hard. His teaching is alright, needs more people skills.
Tests completely different from online instruction. Easy fails
Doesn't relate to students well, condescending.

Let me work at my own pace so I wasn't sitting around waiting for slow people.
He like to crawl inside your skull, live there, and torment you till you go nuts
very nice guy and extremely patient and helpful. highly recommended!!
talks to students as peasants instead of pplunnessarily mean to students ISSUES
Very disconnected from students

horrible, unfair, and demeaning to students. WHY IS HE A TEACHER???
Hard to get along with, doesn't follow book plan, anal on showing work...

drop now or drop your gpa/unclear teaching styles/expects u 2 already know a lot of what he teaches(if u can call it that) demeaning toward students. NO PEOPLE SKILLS!!!!
Very nice guy! Helps students with any problems. Take his class...a really good and helpful teacher.
Really nice guy. Will bend over backwards to help you but tends to teach over your head and goes too fast.
Rude to students. Does not care about you. Immature temperment. He belongs in a back office not working with the public, he dosen't have the personality for it. RUN for your life, your sanity and your GPA!!!!
He was very helpful and really made me understand the material. If you're willing to do the work and put forth an effort, you will do fine.
Very unclear and a personality like a rock!
Very Helpful. He made sure you understood the material
Mr. Steinfort was extremely helpful and approachable. He does have a dry sense of humor, but is a nice guy who will help you out whenever you need it.
He is the worst math teacher I have ever had. He doesn't know what he is talking about. Good teachers souldn't always have to re-explain themselves in Layman's terms or use the words Yes or No all the time. I wouldn't advise anyone to take his class.
If you are a student who takes learning seriously, Steinfort is a godsend. He truly wants every student in his classes to learn the material. He loves to teach. If you are a dull-witted latchkey kid, & need infotainment 24/7 in order to learn,go elsewhere.
Serious students should take him. He is willing to go the extra mile if you don't understand something. He expects respect from the students and also will give you respect. Keeps his classroom under quiet control. Great guy.
Made rude comments to students. Does not think before he speaks. No personality. He gives new meaning to the term"math nerd"! Find another professor who is more with it. Yuck!
this man really sucks when it comes to teaching his comments are rude to other students and he has his favorites and makes it known. If you want to be taught something without kissing hind end and understand don't get take this instructor run!!
If you want to learn, he is the teacher for you. IF you want to goof off and just slide by, you better find another teacher. He appreciates serious students and will help them get ahead to understand the material. Has no patience for the goof off student.
If you follow syllabus & are a serious student, Steinfort is very easy & answers emails w/ in a couple of days.
don't take it at 6am, it's not conducive to mathematics.
Do not take this class at 6:15am--it is already boring beyond reason, and he doesn't expalin the material in a way that everyone can understand&your too tired to raise your hand and ask for him to repeat the explanation
he discriminates minorities
He was the worst teacher I ever had. He explains his material in a way that doesn't make sense, and does not really take the time to help his students on a person to person bais. I had his computer based class, so there was little interaction, he's also very rude and seems disoriented often.
Listen up people, this teacher is bad news. There's no doubt that he knows his math, but the problem is that he does NOT know how to explain and deliver it!Even an autistic child could do better! He indeed shows favoritism and finds it amusing to pick on others.GRCC should screen applicants better!!!!!
Doesn't know how to explain what he's teaching. Math lab tutors have to undo the confusion he leaves his students in.Even when there's an easier way to do a problem,he doesn't tell you. You end up going to the math lab to get hints and an easier way to solve problems.Don't take him. Dull personality
VERY rude to students, yells at you loud enough for all to hear, doesn't explain anything, He's the only one who knows how to do the problems, so if you dont know pretty much forget about it. If you dont ask questions, he gets mad and accuses you of not doing the work. Dont take if you can avoid it.
I have never had a professor that has been so poor at getting back to his students. Our grades and reviews were never posted until last minute. Whenever I tried to get a hold of him he was no where to be found. I finally got help from a different professor. Online classes are great, just DO NOT take
I learned a lot and the expectations for the class are clear. I took the computer class and enjoyed it immensely. He took time to make sure everyone understood the subject and repeatedly went over the homework. If you keep up with the homework and don't get behind, you will do fine.
Very helpful if you show initiative. He respects students who are serious in there studies. He isn't the quickest to respond or post grades. If you email him directly rather than on the discussion board he seems to get back you quicker. If you are independant & don't procrastinate this is the class to take. An A is possible w/ a little effort.
I took the class in the summer and its hard enough trying to learn the material that fast, but he doesn't really explain it very well. He not very clear - even if you ask him questions he has a hard time explaining this himself. Sometimes I wondered if he totally undstood it. I would not take this teacher again (unless it was out to the parking lot
First of all I don't like how he doesn't teach the actual lesson in class, he makes us go to the computer and do it. In my opinion, he refuses to teach... and I don't think he wants to teach, though he says he does. He's unclear with explanations; he will trail off to another subject, he will tell you about everything else except your question.
Not much interaction. Urges for questions. Seems eager to teach. If it takes time for you to learn math do not take this class.
Steiney didn't remember many of the students names....even at the end of the course. Other than that, he's okay-not good at making math interesting. The computer-mediated learning model really bites, don't do it!!!
In his defense, I liked him alot, he was really funny after you got to know him it just takes him to open up. When you show interest in learning he will show interest in teaching you! I took his summer class and thought it was great, could not have learned it any better from anyone else!
He sucks, he sucks he sucks. Okay, learn how to teach! He makes you feel dumb and doesn't teach, he just does a problem on the board w/o explaining and is like "i know how to do it, you don't, ha ha!" never take him.
Helps quite a bit!! Very understanding tries to explain but gets frustrated when students don't catch on as quick as he tries to explain.
I took the computer-mediated model, and it's a huge pain. Liked Steinfort though. He was always willing to explain a prob, and would help you after class if you needed it. I don't ever remeber him being arrogant...
WOW! WOW! WOW! The best math teacher I have ever had!!! I always hated math and now I love it. He totally goes over everything and over it if need be. If he would "get frusted at a student for not getting it," then it would be because he already explained it 3-5 times and your not getting a part that you should have learned high school. I used
He's a great professor, always willing to help, but don't get me wrong...he's not just an easy A. You have to learn to succeed with this guy! But that's what college is for.
Thought he was a pretty good teacher. He would always try his best to answer any questions. He stayed after class to help with problems. Overall he helped me understand math, and thats not easy for me to do!
I absolutely loved Mr. Steinfort. He was so nice, and so enthusiastic about teaching...you could tell that he really, genuinely cared about us, and wanted us to learn. He encourages questions, and does his best in making sure that everyone understands the material completely. He will care if you do.

Professor Steinfort was a great teacher. He is always willing to work with you.
Mr. Steinfort is a good teacher. He cares about his students, and is willing to give his time to help you understand it better. I have never done good in algebra, and I managed an A in this class. I'd recommend taking the PLATO learning method if you have trouble with algebra.
He's a decent caring helpfull teacher however the entire class is pretty much taught to you by a computer program. He is there to assist if you don't understand the program but i dont understand why attendance is mandatory.
Professor Steinfort was really a great teacher. I made sure that I kept up with my assignments and got an A in the class. If you really give an effort, he will definitely see that and be all the more willing to help you out. He is genuinely a very nice guy. As long as you keep up with your work, you will be just fine!!
Had his hybrid class. He's not too bad. Just do the work and the quizzes and you'll be okay.
Excellent teacher. Makes sure that people understand. I am finally understanding math. He has to be good to teach me so well in my worst subject.
Good guy but a horrible teacher. Most the class is online despite not telling you that beforehand so if you cant learn from a robot dont take the class.
If math is not your strong subject do not sign up with this teacher. He is terrible and explains as if the students have the same knowledge in math as him. He is also not supportive and could care less in seeing his students succeed. He has a real talent for making a student feel incompetent as well as feeling lost. I advise another instructor.
This instructor should not teach. He is very hard to follow and even with communicating my difficulties he offered no support. Even with all my dedication and effort I was not able to pass the class. I basically had to teach myself because he was useless. Do not choose this teacher!
He does not teach!!
Great professor. Class is interesting. Must have internet access at home for the class-or you will forever be in a computer lab. Internet software is used for about 80% of class. Several offline lessons. If you keep up with your work, you will have no problem with class. Graphing Calculator is needed.
Great prof. teaches well and does an excellent job with presenting the info. Easy Class
I thought that he was a really good teacher. He explained everything well. I took a hybrid class with him, if you don't go to class it is easy to fall behind. I didn't like the internet assingments but they were fairly easy. His tests were pretty hard, he definetly chose the harder problems to test on.
Excellent professor! He really worked with each of us to ensure that we understood the material. If you don't understand something that he's going over, don't be afraid to ask. He really knows the matierial, and will help you understand it, too. I would highly reccomend him.
He was a frendly teacher. He used both computer assisted learning and in class explaination to get the subject across.
He teaches math better than any teacher I've had in the past! I actually get it, which is amazing to me. Take notes and go to class and you'll succeed. He's very helpful when you don't understand something and has a fun sense of humor. I enjoyed his class very much.
Helpfull
Took a hybrid with him. Gives you a TON of homework. Dont miss any classes or you will be lost. Only counts test grades. Always was late to class and late to let us out. Good at teaching the material. All his tests are at the testing center. Doesn't update blackboard ever and doesn't respond to emails. Hes always glad to answer questions.
Don't come to class and not expect to work. If you think you'll skate by with minimal effort, you're sorely mistaken. Clear teacher, very positive attitude, helpful and structured. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed Prof. Steinfort's classes, I had him for 097 & 098. He made sure we understood the concepts of the mathematics he was teaching.
I enjoyed Taking 097 with Prof. Steinfort and plan to take 098 with him as well. He was slightly late for class often, but understood as he teaches several classes. Great instructor, but will not baby you along.
This was a pre-req to MA110. He wasn't all that great, flew through the material and didn't really stop for questions. I took the hybrid course, so that might be why. The class wasn't easy, but if you cant pass this class, then i would stop here. This class doesn't even count toward a degree.
I didn't do well in his class at all. I had to retake MA098 with a different teacher who helped me excel in Math. Steinfort didn't post grades on Blackboard so I didn't know I was failing until it was too late. Careless, didn't clarify anything and sped through the material. Not happy with his teaching style at all. Just wasn't for me.
I learned a lot from Steinfort, he is a good professor.
I took Math 98 and this was the worst class ever! He doesn't know how to teach and he gives extremely long lectures. His tests are hard and he assigns at least 100 problems of homework a night without even checking it or going over it or even asking us if we had questions! We get to class and he immediately starts a new half of a chapter.
I just got done taking MA098 and yes the class was tougher than MA097 but what would you expect. Mr Steinfort is an excellent teacher. If he was teaching any other math classes i would take him in a heartbeat.
He was a GREAT professor!! I made sure to have him for both math courses I needed. He has cheesy jokes, but I got a kick out of them! If you show you participate and are trying he is more than willing to help you out and give extra time. The tests are long but study and ask questions you will do fine. Ask ?s if you don't understand he'll help!
Mr. Steinfort is a very helpful teacher. He's also hilarious. Most days I'm excited to come to class and I HATE math.
He loves what he teaches and seems to really enjoy doing it. The only part I disliked about his class is the online section of it.
great prof... helpful teacher... good guy
He doesn't give "office hours". There is no class schedule so if your sick you better have a classmates #. You will never know how you do on tests because you never see them. He skips steps while teaching making you LOST. VERY UNORGANIZED. did you want to contact him? there is no syllabus and nothing blackboard. hope you have a math friend handy!
I enjoyed Professor Steinfort's class. He is an instructor that really cares about his students and wants to see them through the whole semester. I took him from MA 098 and 107 because he did the impossible: made math understandable. If you show up to class and are engaged, you should pass. Nonetheless, he is ready to offer additional help.
He flies through the material. If you get lost at the beginning, you'll never catch up without seeing a tutor. He teaches math very strange and it's hard to follow. Some students do great, some fail. He said "If you can't spend 8-12 hours each week on Algebra at home, you won't cut it." He can make you feel stupid if you don't know the answer.
I really struggle with math already but taking it with Mr. Steinfort helped a lot! Lots of homework but the practice prepares you for test. Don't fall behind because he does teach 2 lessons each night. Ask questions and participate and he will go over the problem until you understand. Bad thing is your grade is only based on Test! Great professor!
Great teacher whos willing to help you make it
He is a terrible professor. He flies through the material. His book & teaching style is different from every other math professor. Which confuses tutors when they try to help you. By the end of year, he gives up on his students. He also has terrible office hours. I dont recommend him at all.
My whole life i thought i couldnt math. I took steinfort for 98+107 and absolutely loved it. I built history with him and look forward to his class. I sit front row and always ask question. With math, you have to put the time in to get good results. I see it inspires him when i understand new material. He wants his students to succeed. PRACTICE
Has office hours, used text book, gives homework every night and make sure you do it because it does prepare you for tests. He does teach different and faster than other professors but he makes sure you understand it. If you ask questions he knows youre trying to learn so he always makes sure you personally understand it.
Great teacher, really cares about how students are perceiving and taking in the knowledge and core of the course.
Really solid choice. Kinda awkward but hes passionate. No (mandatory) homework and doesnt care if youre late.
Mr. Steinfort can be a little hard to read and a little intimidating at first. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he will try to answer your questions. I appreciate the fact that makes time during class to go over the homework given. He is engaging so be ready to answer questions in class. I would take him again.
Not my favorite professor. I'm great at math when I have a decent teacher but I struggled here. He caused asking questions in his class to be a spotlight on students. At points, I would make minor mistakes on tests and he'd take away 5 points even if I showed that I understood it. Don't take this unless you want to get a tutor. (only grades tests)
He is very fair and moves slowly through the material. I always felt like I could ask questions and would explain the answer until I understood. You must attend this class each time or you will fall behind. It's a math class, so each lesson builds on its self. Only 4 tests and the final. The home is not checked but I would recommend doing it.
Professor Steinfort is a great professor; he explains the material well, willing to help when asked, is respectful, and grades quicker than any professor I've ever had. He has four tests and one exam as part of the grade, so make sure you do well on all of them. A good indication that you'll ace a test is if you've mastered all the homework.
Awesome, awesome teacher! Uses his time wisely and explains subjects you dont understand! He doesnt grade homework but you have to do the homework to understand whats going on in class. Other than that, hes great! He does only grade by quizzes and tests but he grades fairly. He can be monotone but he makes sure you understand and doesnt rush!
His lecture's tend to be dry/monotone for the first few weeks but once he warms up he's a really nice guy. Lots of homework, but you get some time each class to work on it and get help from him if needed. Always willing to help, but if you don't understand something, he isnt great at explaining it another way. Homework not graded, just 7 tests.
Just finished MA97 with him. Though he's a bit dry & quirky, he's humble, kind, and fair. Passionate about math, he will go out of his way to help you. Grades solely on tests; suggests you do homework (so do I!) in order to be prepared for the tests. Makes himself available during class, inviting you to "put him to work." I will take 98 with him.
He is a nice person and he teaches very clear, however, his voice is very monotone and calming so you need to make sure to stay awake which can be very hard. He is a traditional (no technology) teacher, but he is fair with grading and he will always help you if you need tutoring or more resources to succeed.
He only grades tests. Professor Steinfort seems like he doesn't care. I tried many times speaking up asking for help but he makes you feel dumb after asking and puts students on the spot. Also he gives long lectures and moves too fast. I was always good in math but he made class hard. I had to drop it to not ruin my GPA. Do not take him.
I took this class online and I would not recommend it, Michael Steinfort is an amazing teacher but if you are a question asker please do not take this class online. I had to because of COVID and it's been extremely stressful and I am a student who likes to be on top of things and I put the work in. It's so hard to remember when it's spread out
Mr. Steinfort is the worst and the toughest math teacher I have ever had! He only grades test not the assignments. If your are beginner like me, you are going to have hard time (Especially ESL students). HE expect you to know all before you enrolled in one of his class. DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR ONLINE IN PERSON CLASS!
Professor Steinfort is great. We only did tests for our class and they were not that bad. There are lots of videos to help you through the class. Overall pretty good class and professor.
Professor Steinfort was an awesome teacher, he works with his students if you make the effort to communicate. Learning math online is already extremely difficult but he helps at trying to make it easier! Would take this class again but in person because I like to ask lots of questions and online doesn't help with that.
Tests were the only grades. Monotone voice when teaching but does well to explain concepts. Doesn't like it when students don't comment or ask questions, he wants active participation. I'd say he grades a little easier, distributes points separately for shown work and answers allowing leeway. He'll be there if you need help.
As an online math professor, he is very helpful with questions and explains in detail. He is patient and is good for slow paced students. He does not put in homework grades until the end, so if that's a deal breaker, don't take. Overall no complaints, good professor.
He was a great professor. His personality is dull, but you'll survive. He went over the class material well and was very lenient with homework and objectives. The entire course was used from Aleks. He really cares for his students and want us to succeed. Overall I would take this course again. He's great!
Lectures are the hardest thing to stay awake to, his voice is completely monotone. But he cares and will definitely try to help if you ask questions during or after class. Class didn't always match up to what the homework was so it wasn't explained until after the assignment was already due but that could be due to ALEKS and not him.
Class is entirely on ALEKS, which means tests are difficult to study for. You can work ahead easily, and homework assignments have unlimited attempts. Grading is also entirely through ALEKS, he just enters the grades into Blackboard after tests. Review videos are long but only necessary if you're really struggling with a concept.
I have taken two of Professor Steinfort's classes. He gives good lectures and explains well. He uses Aleks site, as it was an online course. The Aleks site was very easy to use and navigate. Do your homework, take notes and you should do well on the tests. He responds pretty quickly to emails as well.
Professor Steinfort was amazing- he was quick with responses, and helpful on tricky tips. I received a B for a grade because I did minimum work and did not study. Everything is through Aleks which is relatively easy, and fun to study. His lectures are very long and boring, but are helpful for hard problems. I would definitely advise him!!!!
Nice and patient guy but only grades tests with really boring lectures for 3 hours
I did not enjoy this class and was often confused, he expects you to know things in he lecture and does not break anything down. If you struggle at all with Algebra don't take this class with him.
great teacher worked very well with my accessability needs
Michael only grades exams, with someone how doesnt do well on exams and less on math, it was very stressful. He's very caring and he will answer your questions or doubts. If exams weren't graded I would have a better grade.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had. Very skilled with his subject. I struggle HARD with math, and he gave me confidence in my math skills. I actually ENJOY math now?! Everyone here is complaining about test heavy, but I don't think that grading system is up to the professor 🤷‍♀️. Very caring, wears fun Hawaiian shirts.
Only grades on tests. If you don't do well on test don't take class with him. Lecture videos are hour+ videos. Voice is monotone after 15-20 of class I was fighting to stay awake.
If you struggle with math at all do NOT use him as your professor!! I am not math savvy what so ever. Yes I ended the class with a B- however, that was 1000% due to tutoring multiple times a week. He is organized and knows his material BUT if you struggle with math use someone else. He is quick and doesn't answer questions well.
Two homework assignments per week. Only 4 tests throughout the semester, which makes the tests hard sometimes given how much work comes between each test. There's no extra credits, but will replace your worst test score with final exam score. Hardly ever actually used the textbook, but it is required to access Alek's.
