More difficult that many COM professors, but learned quite a lot!
He was always willing to help and made class fun joked a lot, but he was arrogant at times. sometimes graded harder than necessary but gave a little extra credit
Mr. Storr was very enthusiastic about the class. He made it fun and entertaining. Sometimes his grading was pretty tough..especially the first speech that is about yourself. Overall a pleasant experience, but definitely requires a lot of work.
Mr. Storr is unlike any other professor I have had for an intro class. He was difficult to get used to at first, but then I realized that he was only being tough to help make us all better public speakers. He is a tough grader and can be difficult at times, but he is always willing to help!
Very good teacher. He was a somewhat difficult grader, but he made me a much better public speaker, and that is more important than any grade.
Mr. Storr was a hard grader, condescending, and at times hard to get ahold of. You definitely need to practice your speech to perfection or it might get torn to shreds. Overall an average professor.
Mr Storr was wonderful. Yes, he is a hard grader, but he is always willing to help. Also, what is a hard grader? Someone who doesn't let the slackers slide? Anyway, every time I emailed him and asked him to look at something, he gave great feedback. I also met him in his office hours several times and he helped a lot. Overall, I would take him.
Mr. Storr's class is very challenging but you end up learning a lot about yourself as a communicator. He gives low grades at first but then you see yourself improve throughout the year. This is not a slacker class. Take it seriously and you will get a good grade.
Mr. Storr has been one of the best professors I have had at Miami. He is very clear on what he wants from you in your speeches, and definitely start them early. Although his class is somewhat difficult, he is a generous grader if he knows that you tried. Attend office hours-great advice. Numerous opportunities for extra credit. Great course!
Overall very good professor. Very critical, although it seems harsh at first, his criticism is very useful and clear. Has helped me immensely with my public speaking. Tough grading on the speeches, but written work balances it out.
Though I wasn't quite sure that this was going to be the case at the beginning of the course, I have really enjoyed learning from Professor Storr. I think there was a lack of clarity regarding our first speech, but ever since, he has been great. He has high energy, is passionate, and will surely help you develop your communication skills.
Unlike any professor I have had before. Very straightforward, even harsh at times but usually for good reason. Don't expect to wing any speeches because he's a pretty tough grader. However if you actually care about your grade and practice, you will be fine. You will definitely become a much better public speaker after taking this class.
Mr. Storr is a very helpful teacher. He is always willing to help. You need to work very hard in the class though. If you put in the effort and practice your speeches you will do fine. I feel like I am a better public speaker after taking this class and if you want to improve in public speaking I recommend that you take his class.
A very unusual teaching style compared to what I have had in the past. Very witty and can be very harsh at times. However, he is available for help and guidance when needed, even there for a confidence boost. Has faith in students even when they don't. Overall, I would say a hard teacher at times, but very glad I had him.
The class started out really rough with misunderstandings between him & the class, as his teaching style is completely different from other professors at Miami. He is a very tough grader, considering this is only an introductory course and I thought the class was harder than it needed to be. He was good about giving feedback when needed though.
I had Mr. Storr for COM 135 and initially thought he was going to be an impossible grader. However, after the first speech I realized that even if you aren't a perfect speaker, he is mainly looking for you to try your best (honestly) and follow the guidelines of the assignment. As long as you take the class seriously, you should get a fair grade!
This is not like the other COM 135 classes you hear about. Just because you put in a lot of work does not mean that you will receive an A. His grading is tough. But once you start seeing improvements you realize why he had such high expectations because he truly cares about your education.
You cannot slack off, he will know when you did not care about your speech. Also for an 8 am. class, he is a little too much to handle at some points. Never fall asleep during others speeches either.
He is a difficult grader but is very helpful in assisting you to get better grades. You can easily be successful in the class if you pay attention to the requirements and follow them, even if you aren't extremely comfortable with public speaking. Overall, I felt like I actually learned something having him as a teacher.
He is very blunt with guidelines and interest level. Very helpful if you put forth the effort and contact him first. Great motivator in the classroom.
He comes on really hard at first but he really cares about his students and just wants to help you improve your public speaking. After the first week you may want to drop, but don't drop it!
He's a tough grader but as long as you put forth effort and try to improve with each speech, you can pass. He's very understanding and willing to work with you where you need. He is, however, very sassy and very blunt. I'd definitely advise you not to drop him. The class is really just speeches that required ten hours of work every few weeks.
He is one of those professors that is really into his job. He doesn't want to see you fail, but at the same time, he doesn't just give you the grade. He appreciates it when his students show interest in his class, and it's really beneficial to show up to class. This is the teacher that you should try to get for COM 135.
Kind of intimidating at first, but he warms up to the class with time.
LOVED HIM. Very funny and made class interesting to come to. COM itself can be dry, but I enjoyed coming. He grades somewhat hard, but if you practice and put in the effort, you will get a good grade. Show enthusiasm and participate in class. However, if you are really sensitive or easily offended, this might not be the teacher for you.
I loved him!! He makes class interesting and fun. He grades very fairly and also offers very very helpful feedback after speeches. His assignments were not super complicated and he makes himself available to help. Very understanding and accommodating to the students needs. One of my favorite professors at Miami.
Not hard to get an A in this class if you make an effort and challenge yourself. He is also a great professor and will push you to do your best. He makes sure that class is never dull. Overall, I would recommend taking him as a professor if you get the chance.
COM 135 Great teacher, really loves communications and actually teaches you a lot and forces you to become a better speaker. Definitely recommend him!
This class was challenging but if you follow the guidelines it was not hard to get a good grade. Professor is funny and makes class enjoyable.
I would take this professor if you want to challenge yourself into becoming a better public speaker. I have learned to really respect his opinion and knowledge. I would take this class if you want to work hard for your grade.
He has a bit of an attitude and isnt afraid to show it. Unfortunately this comes through when you are presenting and will grade according to his oppinion. But as long as you work hard you will do fine.
He was not as hard of a teacher as people make him out to be. He can be hard to set up a meeting time with because he is busy with the Forensic Speech Team.
Very intimidating at first, gets better as the semester goes on
Very intimidating at first and graded tough on first speech, but after that lightened up and made class funny and enjoyable. Genuinely cares for his students and is willing to listen and help you. Won't just give you a good grade but will do everything he can to help you earn it. Wants you to succeed but isn't going to hold your hand. Good prof
You have to put in the effort to do well on speeches, but you will get a lot out of the course as well.
Storr is an extremely personable and outgoing teacher. His lectures are entertaining and funny which makes attending class that much better. Don't hesitate to ask for help on the speeches because his tips are really useful. Do not try to BS him though, he will call your bluff. Overall, one of my favorite instructors thus far.
Storr is an extremely fun and outgoing teacher. He's always willing to help. However, he doesn't give out A's to just anyone. If you want an A in this class, you will have to work for it. Overall, he's a great teacher and my communication skills actually improved.
Makes class pretty interesting. If you attend class and make a good effort you'll get a good grade.
Class isn't hard, but he can be a picky grader, especially at first. However, he takes into account whether you're really trying or just trying to coast by. If you put in a good effort, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Storr made a required speech class less terrible than I'd been afraid of.
Good teacher, can sometimes be picky with grading. Overall, good public speaker and has a lot of insite on public speaking.
Overall the class was not too difficult, although at certain times the work got to be quite time-consuming. He is sort of a tough grader but if you put forth some effort you will get a good grade.
He was an excellent teacher who made me feel more comfortable as a speaker. The class got progressively easier and it was one of the most fun classes I've taken here so far. Just be enthusiastic and break out of your shell.
Can be intimidating at first but becomes clear that he really wants everyone to do well, you just need to put in the work
Seems intimidating at first but you'll learn that he really does want everybody to do well
Professor Storr seemed to be very understanding of students' needs and wants. He was always very clear in his discriptions of assignments and was readily available to answer your questions. Overall, a positive class and professor experience.
Mr. Storr is definitely intimidating at times, but you will grow to appreciate his humor and his character. He is very helpful and incredibly understanding of students' needs. He is tough but knows when to back off when it counts!
Although Mr. Storr is very intimidating and difficult at first, as soon as you realize what he is looking for in each speech the class becomes easier. He is also very willing to meet with you outside of class and help you develop your speech if you are having trouble.
Don't enter Michael's class thinking it will be easy. He presents a challenging public speaking course in which you actually have to work for your grade. He does, however, tell you exactly what he is looking for in speeches which makes assignments easier.
He is very very fair. I am a horrible public speaker and have improved a lot. He is funny, interesting, and only makes you do important things.
great teacher really funny! if you go to office hours will help you in any way he can. Fair grader and makes class interesting
If you want to become a better public speaker, take Mr. Storr. He knows what he's talking about, and he knows how you can improve. He doesn't ever slam you with terrible grades, and he's forgiving if you show that you've put the effort in. Take Mr. Storr- he's hilarious and I loved going to his class!
He is very helpful for international students. He focuses more on the speech quality, but not your language barrier. As the time goes, you will find out that you learn much more than you expect, and you will be more likely to join the class. Also, he is very nice and helpful during office hour. Highly recommend to talk with him before your speech.
He's really sarcastic, but if you can get past that, then he's a good teacher. He gives constructive criticism and grades fairly.
Prof. Storr is very honest and straightforward which is what you need in a speech teacher. His grading is very fair and if you put in the work, you will do well. You will leave his class a better public speaker. He doesn't really use the book but will teach you almost everything you need to know.
Mr. Storr is a fair teacher. Pretty easy grader, try to avoid starting the more demanding speeches the night before. Funny guy, makes funny comments throughout class, even if they are offensive to some. Has a strong personality, but has good sense of humor about it. Good class overall, I recommend him for sure
An overall good professor. He'll let you have it if you don't prepare your speeches, but he's fair. He is fun to work with, and he definitely keeps it real.
This professor is extremely helpful when it comes to improving public speaking skills. The final is kind of daunting because we never used a textbook. Overall, though, I'd say my public speaking improved greatly, as did my confidence.
He is very intimidating at first, but as the year goes on, he becomes a lot more laid back. Overall, I felt like he really strived to make us better communicators by giving us very specific strategies to help us improve our public speaking. If you can survive the first few weeks, you will be fine.
I really enjoyed this class, I think Mr. Storr did an excellent job. The speech assignments were creative and forced me to challenge myself.
He seemed hard the the start of the semester and was intimidating, but wasn't a hard grader and ended up being one of my favorite classes
Intimidating at first, but really wants everybody to do well
Michael is a wonderful and exciting teacher. He keeps class interesting and takes a personal interest in the development of each student. Even though I didn't do as well as I wanted to in the course, I truly valued my experience in this class.
He starts the semester pretty intimidating; everyone one was scared after our first speech. However, if you do the work and follow the syllabus really carefully, it's pretty easy to get a good grade.
He was very enthusiastic about speech so it made the class fun. I absolutely hate giving speeches and he made this class actually pretty fun for me.
As a comm major I was very excited to take this class. I have never had a fear of public speaking, but after giving my first speech I was very intimidated by his grading. As the semester when on I grew to learn that he wanted us all to do well and succeed. My suggestion when taking this class is to follow his guidelines and you will do great!
He is an intimidating teacher but throughout the semester you will realize that this is just his style and it works for him. He wasn't my favorite but he was far from the worst.
Take this class! He is very passionate and enthusiastic about the course, which keeps class interesting. His personality also helped to keep his students engaged in the material. His expectations can sometimes be intimidating at first but he makes himself available to all of his students and is always willing to help.
At the Beginning he is very intimidating but thats just who he is. He is hard in the first part of the semester but then he is very laid back with second half of semester. He really wants you to get an A. On paper he really only grades the grammar part. Take him if you try a little you will get an A easy.
I realize that Michael is involved in the speech team, but by the end of the semester it seemed like that job came first. The last month has been a joke, which feels cheap for someone interested in the coursework. He could have toned down the load without joking about how easy his class would be. The first half was very good. Fairly easy A.
Makes you want to do well
At first I was really nervous about taking this class, but Professor Storr is an awesome guy and is willing to help you in any way. He also is sure this is an easy A which I assure you it is.
he comes on strong, but I think it really forces you to pay attention and take the class seriously. some might easily get offended by him, but at the end of he semester, i came to respect him and realize he really wanted us to do well and improve. he's kookey, that's for sure, but I think it works for him. don't try to pull fast ones on him though.
You will get an A as long as you try, but there is a fair chance it will be a very frustrating A. Michael can be disorganized, and likes to change plans on a moment's notice. Most of these changes are to the benefit of the students, but for someone who likes consistency, it can be stressful not being able to give a speech on the assigned day.
The class is difficult in the beginning because he challenges you to do the best you can. But towards the middle-half/end of the semester he gets really laid back so the class becomes cake.
Mr. Storr is very funny and pretty engaging in class. This class takes a lot of work for a few days before each speech, but other than that it isn't bad. He really wants you to get better at speaking.
Amazing Teacher! Really wants you to do well and helps a lot, plus he's really funny. You'll do a good amount of work for your speeches, but there are a lot of possible points in the class. Definitely recommend
It's a basic course that everyone has to take. Storr makes class bearable. He makes sure not to spit back exactly what the textbook says. He is very clear what he wants from speeches and always brings energy into the classroom
Laid back and easy going but challenges you to do your best. Put in the effort and it's an easy A.
Storr is very helpful outside of class. He makes class interesting and gives clear instructions on what he wants for each speech. Highly recommended.
Micheal Storr is an awesome professor. If you take the effort and try your best more then likely you will receive a good grade. But if you are lazy and do not try, then he will grade you poorly and tough. Overall, he is awesome, enthusiastic and is willing to take time out of his day to help you with your speeches.
Mr. Storr is a very effective professor and is careful not to waste any of our time. The class itself demands a fair amount of work, but if you make an effort it is easy to get an A. Lots of extra credit.
Mr. Storr is an amazing teacher! He brings so much energy to every class and he truly cares about the subject. He really wants you to improve and if you put in the effort, you will. He is really funny and makes class really interesting. I would definitely recommend taking this class!
Pretty good teacher. Easy class. He gives good feedback on your speeches so you can learn from your mistakes. Easy A.
He is very energetic and makes class enjoyable. There is a lot of work that goes into speeches but he helps you a lot with it and is understanding that some people just aren't good at giving speeches. He truly cares about making you a good public speaker.
Storr is a great professor who is always available for help through email, or in office hours. As long as you spend quality time writing your speeches, you will receive a good grade. Great teacher.
Professor Storr has high expectations of his students, but he will definitely make you a better speaker. If you put in good effort, and truly want to improve, then you will do well in this class!
Professor Storr was awesome!!! Definitely one of my favorite professors during my time here at Miami so far. Send him your outlines ahead of time--he gives great feedback. He also makes class an encouraging and supportive environment, which was fantastic because I was always scared to present. I grew tremendously as a speaker thanks to Storr!!
Storr is a very enthusiastic person! He holds you to a high standard as a public speaker because he wants you to succeed. He's always available to help and the class is pretty relaxed. Doesn't require much work except for when you have an upcoming speech. Total of 4 speeches in a semester. He probably will cancel a few classes too :)
This class really helped improve my speaking skills and confidence in public speaking. He is super helpful and will look over speech outlines if you email them to him before hand. He wants students to succeed, but has high expectations of his students.
Professor Storr is a very good professor. He definitely knows his stuff. He is very helpful in every way when it comes to writing and preparing for speeches, so make sure to use him as a resource. If you attend class, complete the assignments, and prepare for your speeches, it is very possible to get an A.
Mr. Storr is very helpful if go into talk during office hours. He recommends what to include in your speech and how to word it generally. If you put in the work, you should get a good grade.
Professor Storr is a very relaxed guy who simply expects you to do your work. If you show up for what you are required and do the homework the class is an easy A/B depending on your effort level. Would recommend him as as far as COM135 goes.
Great teacher, he was recommended to me by a friend and and would recommend him as well. Class is structured very well with clear deliverables, and a good grade is achievable with effort. Provides lots of feedback on speeches which helps a lot with improvement. Textbook only used for quizzes.
Take Mr. Storr if you want to get something out of COM 135. If you prepare for the speeches and do the HW it is very easy to get an A. Very helpful. He wants you to do good.
Storr is a good professor. He has a lot of background in giving speeches well, and wants his classes to improve their skills in public communication. He grades fairly, and you can get an A or B if you put in effort. His assignments aren't the most exciting though.. However, I would recommend his class.
Prof. Storr is extremely entertaining. I hated public speaking before this class, but he seemed to truly care about our success which makes you want to work hard. The speeches take a lot of effort and preparation, but if you are willing to put in the work you can easily get a good grade.
Storr was always willing to help you. He is very serious about public speaking and speech and debate but he is always able to keep the mood light with his witty sarcasm. He is an overall great instructor- I've learned so much from him!
This class was very frustrating at first. Lots of book quizes and it felt like there was a speech every week. It got better once I realized he didn't give harsh grades. GIVE SPEECHES ON TIME. He will hack into your grade if you "get sick" on your speech day. I would have gotten A's instead of C's if I didn't procrastinate. End of semester was easy.
Overall, I thought that Michael was a very good teacher. He was passionate about the class, which I thought was great. I also thought that he was very fair in grading our various speeches. My only complaint would be the fact that we had to do multiple quizzes throughout the semester, which I thought were just annoying and pretty pointless.
I thought that Michael was an excellent teacher. He was very passionate about the class, which I thought was great. He was also generous in his grading for speeches. As long as you put in a decent amount of effort, its easy to get an A.
He is a very good teacher, and he tells you exactly what he wants in your speeches. He's fair, but he can be a tough grader. As long as you follow the requirements and put the time into practicing speeches, the class is not that bad. I feel that I have become a lot better at giving speeches since the class first started.
He is a great professor and very helpful. Seems intimidating at first, but he is understanding and such a nice guy.
Storr was very helpful when you are preparing for a speech. He is willing to review your outlines and give you constructive feedback in order for you do your best.
Storr is a good teacher. He is very helpful when you have any questions and provides constructive feedback with outlines. He is a tough grader, but fair.
Storr is a very helpful teacher. He is gives helpful feedback when you send him your outlines. He is a strict grader, but fair.
Easy course as long as you attend and do the assignments and speeches. Cancels class regularly and is very understanding if you miss class (excused) or have to leave early.
Prof. Storr is AWESOME!!!! His class is very clear and interesting. Most important, you will improve your public speaking skill significantly after his class!!!
Best communication class ever!!!!
If you attend class and follow instructions with the speeches, then you will do well in this class. Mr. Storr outlines his class very clearly and you can greatly improve your public speaking
Even though this was a Miami Plan course, Professor Storr was passionate about what he does; therefore, making class easy to come to. I also learned a lot about speaking from him.
Professor Storr was very passionate about the subject, which helped motivate the students. He was a tough grader, but I think the challenge helped everyone in the long run.If you try, it's not hard to get an A or B.
He's really into the subject, which made the class a lot more interesting. Good sense of humor. Tough grader, but very fair. My public speaking skills improved a lot thanks to his class.
This class really helped me a lot with my public speaking! Professor Storr gives very good feedback on your speeches, and is clear about his expectations. If you put in some effort and attend class, it is not hard to get a good grade.
Professor Storr was very passionate about making us better at public speaking. He removed the stigma that it is just a walk in the park class. You do need to put in the effort, but it will make you a better public speaker. Overall it was a great course
Really cool professor. Understands this a mandatory class for most majors so does not force you to memorize difficult material for exams. Mostly common sense stuff. Class was basically just five speeches that he graded you well on if you were able to speak in the front of the class for the right amount of time.
Professor Storr is extremely knowledgable, enthusiastic, and helpful. He is also a fair grader. He knows that not everybody is an amazing public speaker, but if he knows you worked hard preparing for a speech, you'll be just fine. Your grade will reflect how hard you work in the class, no matter how good or bad of a speaker you are.
Professor Storr is very passionate about the subject. He also provides really good feedbacks.
Michael Storr was by far my favorite teacher this semester. He doesn't involve any busy work, he always makes himself clear, concise and really wants to help his students become the best speakers. Although attendance is mandatory, it's a class you will never mind going to. He is the best!
Professor Storr is as enthusiastic and passionate of a professor that you will find. He cares about his students and invests himself in making them better at the difficult task of public speaking. His class is enjoyable, challenging yet rewarding, and makes you dread public speaking a little less. Definitely recommend taking his class.
Mr. Storr was so friendly, engaging, and awesome. He made this class fun and interesting and was very fair to his students. He is very direct and doesn't waste anyone's time. Fair grader with a lot of easy points to gain! Loved having him.
He is good COM teacher, plain and simple. He gives you the means to be great, but like any COM class you have to make the effort to be great. Yet, if you fail or mess up and get nervous during a speech he wont punish you with bad grades. He is very generous with his grades and if you put any sort of effort into the class you will get an A. Take Him
Professor Storr is a very passionate professor who really cares about his students. he is helpful and also makes his expectations crystal clear. The class is easy as long as you are willing to put in the effort to get through it.
Extremely helpful. He loves what he teaches and is good at it. You need to do your work and do it well to receive a good grade in this class. He gives amazing feedback and actually cares how you do in his class. Would recommend him to anyone who asks!
He was a great overall teacher and really cared about the students!
great professor. I love him
Great teacher, very knowledgable and cares about students
He is such a great professor. The class was super easy and I actually learned a lot too. He also gives a ton of extra credit points. If you actually show up to class and try you'll get a good grade.
Professor Storr was extremely helpful and an overall great teacher. He is fair, and truly teaches what is necessary to become a competent and well rounded public speaker. This class changed my capabilities completely , and a great portion of that was Storr's dedication to his students as a professor. Definitely take his course! You wont regret it.
He expects you to try on speeches and even if you're not good at public speaking, as long as you put the effort into performing as good as possible you will get a good grade.
Michael Storr was a very enjoyable professor. He is truly a teacher that cares about his students, and wants them to grow and improve in whatever it is we are working on. He does not involve any busy work which is HIGHLY appreciated in this day and age. This was a class that I would look forward to go to and would highly recommend him to anyone.
He is one of the best teachers. Very helpful and will do anything to make sure you become a comfortable speaker
he is one of the best prof I ever met. Really nice and helpful
This can be an intimidating course if you're afraid of public speaking but if you're already decent at it, it's a super easy A. Storr is awesome. Very entertaining and clear in what he's looking for.
Great class. Was super nervous coming in but Mr. Storr prepares you to succeed. Leaving the class as a much better speaker. Highly recommend
