today he asked what would be useful to us from him...NOT to rant on every class about the project for the first half hour. not to read word for word from the book and to come SOMEWHAT prepared. he has no idea what he is talking about and always loses his place. he wastes an absurd amount of time and has a personality of an 11 year old boy..
not to mention that all of his metaphors or outside examples have to do with sex, or some sexual part of the body.i don't understand how he got a PHD, his facebook default is him with pink bunny ears on, this class hes making someone take him during his lecture. basically, if he didnt have a text he would have nothing to say besides"look at my vide
Horrible. Very disorganized, midterm has potential but is too unclear so it isn't fun. Lectures are practically incomprehensible. He makes us buy textbooks that we barely use and he doesn't give any semblance of assigned readings so it's not even easy to teach yourself. And I got an A in the course so trust me, I'm only bitter about wasting my time
This guy is nuts. He is a terrible professor. I agree he's "creative" but not in an academic way. He rants, has no good information. He's teaching a course that has nothing to do with the sad outline that he produced at the beginning of the year. He's self obsessed, and so he teaches crap that has nothing to do with course. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSES!
Stay away!!!!! He is awful. Worst professor I've had in my 4 years at U Ottawa. I was in your situation last year registering for classes and reading about Strangelove. I read some awful reviews, but I figured he couldn't be that bad so I took his class anyway. Well, turns out he is that bad. Don't make my mistake!
Doesn't respond to emails but takes the time to send one to add him on Facebook. Incoherent rants, no structure, unfair. I emailed to meet about my exam and he refused. I gave the guy a chance despite the bad reviews and regretted it. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND EDUCATION!!!
Strangelove is not your average prof with serious structure or who teaches right out of the book. He does however have opinions and teaches the REAL WORLD version of policy and law. I find that more valuable and interesting. Good prof. Easy class. I recommend taking him atleast once.
This guy is a JOKE - so glad I am done with U of O and do not have to endure his BS any longer. Looking back on each class I was required to attend(although I rarely went since it was a terrible use of my time...) I cannot help but think "hmm.. well, there goes three hours of my life I will never get back." This guy is a clown and a DISGRACE!
I guess it's hate it or love it with professor Strangelove. Too bad for him it looks like it's mostly hate that goes to this website. But he's a cool guy and good teacher. Most people here don't get him and mistake his style for arrogance. But his lectures are very deep, though sometimes repetitive, it helps it sink in. Loved the class, awesome guy
Pointless class, says the same thing over and over again. No new insight on any topics. He insists on pushing his own view on everyone and if you dont agree you wont do well in the class!
Classes with him: 1st: A- 2nd: D 3rd: B+ He only cares about his lectures content. What content? I tried to take notes, was left with blank pages. I'm an A student and he wouldn't explain my D or meet with me. The 'fake' attendance isn't fake, he uses it to guide himself. I attended all classes but didn't write my name to test it...D
ABSOLUTELY Terrible.
He seemed like a fun and nice prof, and was an entertainging prof. However, the exam was based solely on oour ability to recall terms (not even theories, just terms). Lots of people didn't or almost didn't pass. He didn't even bother to say how many terms he wanted, but explained away low marks with "you didn't use enough terms" to several students
Have had him for two classes. Hands down the worst professor I've had. He teaches a lot of classes but avoid if you can. If you can't, reference him A LOT in your exam and you'll probably do fine.
HORRIBLE! self obsessed. Uses his own books, the attendance is mandatory and if you miss 2-3 classes, he will make sure you either fail or get a D! Attending lectures is useless so basically you are just stuck in his class! I would actually change my course schedule after 2nd year if I knew he is teaching the prereq and take it later!
4th year student here; 8.2 GPA. He has got to be one of the worst profs on campus.I did well in his class & odds are you will too, but he should NOT be teaching. He is rarely prepared, often WRONG about core concepts, uses class time to discuss his private life, & makes inappropriate comments. I felt like he brought down my morale AND my I.Q.
A lot of bad comments concerning strangelove but most of them also consist of "Never went to class it was a waste of time". It's not, he has good insight and though a lot of it is left wing rants he is a very good prof. If ur in the CMN dpt. you have to at least try one class with him
Everybody on hear seems to really have it agains't Dr Strangelove. He's a great prof, very helpful, knows a lot and makes the class interesting. The textbook he uses are very insightful and he's a fair grader- if you put the effort, you'll be rewarded. Seriously one of the best profs i have had at u of O, very knowledgable and crazy :)
Seems like everyone who hates Strangelove has found this site.Though he is eccentric, why are you all complaining? 15 mark blog, 35 mark video doc which is a pice of cake then a final exam that is no more then 2 essay questions. Think you guys need to evaluate yourselves as students instead of Strangelove as a prof!! GREAT PROF!!
People seem to be after him on this website. Despite all this negative feedback I've had him multiple times. He DOES respond to your e-mails, he DOES follow a structure in class (if you read the required readings you'll notice it's chapter by chapter), and he IS a good prof. By not going to class you're wasting your money. It's worth it so just go!
The most ridiculous prof. Always late to class, talks off the top of his head, and takes "non mandatory" attendance. Overall the class is a joke and a waste of time, he doesn't say anything different from what is in the textbooks. Not worth wasting your time on
Wow, I didn't expect such negative reviews. I found Strangelove's class really interesting and completely different from all my other courses. He is laid back and fun unlike many profs at uOttawa. Managed to keep me awake at 8:30 in the morning. I didn't do as well as I thought I would given my interest and studying, but I enjoyed the class.
Probably one of the worst profs I have had in my 3 years as a university student. I had all As in my assignments and ended up with a C+ as my final grade (although I am sure I did well on the final). I asked on several occasions to see my exam and he did not respond. And too crazy for my taste.
it's my last semester of undergrad and he is the worst prof I've ever had. lectures are completely disorganized, structure is pathetic and assignments are useless. it is hard to avoid taking him if youre in comms, but try.
I have now had Strangelove 3 times in my 4 years at U of O. My first class with him was horribly disorganized, however he has changed his teaching methods a great deal since. His classes are now well structured and he emphasizes what is important for the exams. His classes are interesting and fun! I recommend taking his class.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!
He is a passionate professor that speaks truth about society and our place in the world. Although eccentric, he is what a University professor is supposed to be like, eccentric, slightly introvert and very caught up in thought. If you want to be better at critical thinking take a Strangelove course. If you want instruction... go to college.
Lectures are interesting but really unorganized. You need to read the textbook to figure out what is important and what you will be tested on. I found the multiple choice exams to be pretty easy but you definitely need to come to class and read the text critically if you want to do well. He's very eccentric but keeps things interesting.
Although Strangelove is eccentric, there is a no computer/tech. rule in his class, therefore for 3hrs you must listen carefully & write notes out by hand. Clarity was hard, because sometimes he would go on irrelevant rants. Read both texts,& attend lectures to improve grades. Helpful, and full of insight. Class atmosphere was light and fun.
Say what you will about the guy, but I feel like everyone should take a Strangelove course for the experience. He's very charismatic and... eccentric (he tries hard at it). He gives excellent lectures; despite the tangents, I could listen to him for hours. That said, he can spend an hour explaining something that I could sum up in a sentence.
He tries so hard to be weird and eccentric, too hard. His lectures are a waste of time, he rambles, goes completely off topic & read passages out of his own textbook (which is awful). His midterms and exams consists of minor details mentioned in a line of the text and barely anything even mentioned in the lecture. Thanks for nothing Stranglove
Easily one of my favourite profs. You show up, listen, take notes, and you walk away with a solid mark. He makes it very clear what to look at in the text for exams. There are 2 midterms and a final. This way my 3rd class with him, and he was the same every time. Don't hate the Strangelove
Strangelove is a very passionate educator and is very knowledgeable about the subject. The exams were mostly textbook based so reading all chapters is essential. At times it was difficult to follow what he was saying because he tends to ramble. However, he is a funny and energetic professor that attempts to make learning fun.
Great teacher, material is interesting and his test aren't difficult, as long as you go to class you should be good! Not a lot of readings either!
His train of thought is erratic and hard to follow. He confuses names/people and forgets things easily. You have to rely mostly on the books he wrote in order to do well in the class. Class was useful only when he hinted at what may be important for the midterm/exam. Don't know about this guy.
He is very passionate and has a unique teaching style. His lectures aren't very organized, and he didn't give a rubric for the presentation, but the content is interesting and he genuinely wants his students to do well. His MC exams can be tough but he gives very obvious hints in class. We had a couple pot lucks in class - he tries to make it fun.
I've never met a prof that is so passionate about what he's teaching. He also doesn't treat you like a number, he generally wants to get to know his students. His exams really aren't that hard at all and he often hints on what you will be tested on. I really recommend his classes.
The guy is funny, and I like him as a person. However he is a really terrible educator. His lectures are all over the place. You never know what you should be taking notes on, or what to study. He is extremely disorganized. His powerpoints aren't clear, mind you he never actually finishes them because he just rambles on about himself.
He seems like a nice enough man, but he tries to hard to be eccentric and is highly disorganized. Uses long, pretentious words in his lectures and his textbook when concepts can be described very simply. His tests contain grammar mistakes and multiple answers for the same question. With an average of 90% in other classes, I got 70% in this one.
Prof. Strangelove tends to go off-topic during his lectures, but I find his ideas engaging. He often uses lectures as a platform to speak of the evils of capitalism and empire to students who may be emerging from the home bubble. He's not wrong, but it's often not quite within direct scope of the course material. Read the book if you want to pass.
I don't know how he got this job. I highly regret taking his class because I have not learned a single thing. His exams are all about irrelevant facts from his book or his opinion on something, even if it's wrong. I am so disappointed and feel completely ripped off. I am a straight A student but he killed my GPA. Never take a class with him!!!
By far one of the most interesting profs Ive ever had. You can tell that he really cares about his students (he always tries to learn your name and makes funny comments). Also gives great life lessons! definitely a class worth taking. But be sure to work hard! read the required material and don't skip class!
It's funny how he comes on this site to rate himself positively! He should stop caring what others think of him and improve his skills! Nice man, great life lessons. Just repeats his material too much. He makes his exams super tricky and doesn't let you see them after. His book is outdated now and he knows it. BOOK IS A MUST READ 4 A DECENT MARK!
He rambles and is very unclear. He goes off on tangents that are absolutely horrendous. Had to make his second midterm easier cause everyone failed the first one due to his unclarity. Shows weird videos.
He's eccentric and tries very hard to be different. Though he might seem engaging at first, his lectures are disorganized and have no structure at all. He often goes off topic to go on a tangent;very confusing because then we're left wondering what parts are part of the lecture vs his personal opinions. Tests are"choose the MOST correct answer"Hard
Strangelove is probably a great guy outside of class, and probably an awesome guy to talk one-on-one with but a class of 300 people is clearly not suited to his teaching style. It's also evident that he likes to go off on tangents, which doesn't help as each lecture is only an hour long. Tests are ridiculously difficult as well. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I am at a loss for why he is rated so poorly on here! If you go to class, do the readings, and then study the terms that he sends out by email before his tests, it's an easy A. As an English major who is used to studying thousands of pages of content, and writing an essay for my exams, this class was a breeze. He has three multiple choice tests...
He was actually helpful if you go talk to him but his lectures are very unclear. IF he gives a study guide it'll be very similar to the actual exams.
Mixed feelings. The content is fairly easy to understand however his tests are hard. It's a brief introduction to media studies then the study of his philosophies (in his book). The book is dense and irrelevant as the material for an 'intro to media studies course' Overall he's a decent proff but the course focuses on his book too much.
Thought it would be an easy class, totally wrong. But it was because he made it way harder than it needed to be. he talks forever about nothing and then all the random stuff he said ends up on the exam with no warning. The textbook is one that he wrote and has nothing to do with the subject of the course. It is more like an novel-length essay.
Charming man. Rambles on and on, but at least hes informative and interesting.
Gets off topic very easily, and when he is actually teaching you have no idea what he is taking about, nice guy one on one (outside of class) Course is based on his book that he wrote. Book is worst then his lecture and a difficult read. * AVOID *
I had him for 3 classes in 1 semester. Had his class 6 times in total. Attendance matters even if he says it doesn't. His lectures are him picking points from his own book to ramble on about. Computers are forbidden. The most unorganized man I have ever met who tries his hardest to be inappropriate. Nice guy but very annoying as a prof.
Pros: - Easy A if you just show up to 75% of classes, read the book, and take note of the things he repeats. - ALL classes consist of blog entries, creation of videos (group), final essay (just agree with his arguments) Cons: - You wont learn much - Attendance is a must - Tries to make the simple theories complicated by using unneeded big words.
if I wanted to watch YouTube for an hour I would do that at home. I don't need a doctor to type funny videos into the search bar for me, let alone pay tuition. He would start every class with a five minute YouTube clip. He'd lose track of time and before you know it he's cramming an hour lecture into fifteen minutes
Prof. Strangelove is a witty, fun professor. For Media Industries, he started off a little confusing early in the semester, but towards each exam he gave EXACTLY what was needed to pass, example questions from lectures being on the exam and all. His quirky nature definitely is a plus for me. Makes the sometimes dry material bare-able. Recommended!
You can tell he is passionate about teaching and wants students to do well. If you spoke during class he would thank you for your contribution after class and overall is just a very nice and funny prof. He can sometimes get off topic and can be hard to follow but if you go to class and pay attention to his lectures they are not too hard to follow.
I don't know why he is so poorly rated on here because he is a great prof! His lectures are very enjoyable and he is really funny! His midterm and final are easy if you do the readings and pay attention in class. His project is a bit ambiguous and he is a bit hard when marking them but give a lot of examples & it's a fun project. Highly recommend!!
Strangelove is the best professor I have had in my 3 years at uOttawa. He is a great speaker and when he gets to his points he can be quite convincing. He made the course very interesting and relevant, even using current reports written in news papers. Easy A if you read the textbook and do the presentation or video well. Highly recommend.
Strangelove is a great professor. He is very inspirational and convincing in his argumentation of the different problems we face in todays world. In this course, he talks about a plethora of subjects that are very relevant to people who care about the state of political and enviromental affairs in the world. Read the book and get an A.
Very easy course, very easy marker. You have to read the textbook, but besides that it is an easy A. Quotes from the text were shown on his slides, and then appeared on the exams, which are predictable and straightforward. I actually learned a lot in his course, which I found pretty interesting. Was scared bc of the reviews here, but he's a peach!
Very easy class and very interesting, but there's one main problem, he takes his political views very seriously. He claims to be a teacher who enjoys discussion and debates over topics, but he fills his tests with questions which are based off of his political views, and you will get a poor grade if you do not take his views as facts.
Strangelove I took for multiple CMN courses hence why I wrote CMN000. If I could have Strangelove for all of my courses, I truly would. He is very inspiring and passionate and knowledgable. The best way to succeed in his class is to attend every class ready to take notes. Read all texts assigned. And open your mind to learning. Great prof great man
Strangelove is an amazing prof, he's so nice and helpful. This class was super fun, interesting and easy!
His lectures are very interesting, you would not want to miss a class with him. Evaluations include a midterm and a final exam (both multiple choice).
You will have to memorize his textbook word for word if you want to do will because his exams are all multiple choice and he picks the most random, obscure phrases from the book that have absolutely no context. He'll give questions like "concept a __ affect concept b" and the answers will be may, could, might. So nit picky.
Expects you to memorize his entire book, asks super vague questions that are impossible to distinguish between right and wrong answers. All M/C exams. Learned nothing about media ethics, the entire course is about anti-capitalism and promoting his book. Avoid!
He is very.. Interesting... His lectures are very unique and taking his class is an experience. He tends to go waaaayyyyyy off subject and sometimes it makes it hard to concentrate on the actual class. His exams are easy since they're basically the lecture slides.
He's a very eccentric person which was funny at first but It quickly began to ruin lectures because of the lack of focus. The tests were easy because they were essentially the slides but the class lacked cohesion and a clear focus. At times I felt like his opinions were the course material and we had to agree to pass the class.
Worst prof ever!!! Avoid him!!!!
As a person he's very nice and willing to help out students. However he tends to ramble and go off on side notes, it's hard to pay attention.
This is my 4th class with Strangelove and I love his lectures! I learned a lot, even if I don't remember it. Very inspirational and passionate about communications. Not always clear during lectures, but readings are helpful! Gives hints throughout lectures about exams.
Strangelove is a funny guy. He does want students to succeed. He reminds students every class to get work done in advance. Start your project the first week of class - it will be easier to shape and edit closer to the deadline. And DO show your work to the class!! Feedback is super helpful!
Dr. Strangelove is overall a good professor. Although his lectures may be a bit unorthodox, he genuinely wants to see his students succeed. Start working on projects early - for the ad campaigns his critiques and suggestions on where to improve gave students a chance to review their work, thus receiving a better grade! He's fair and knows his stuff
worst prof ever! Avoid! avoid!!!
Strangelove for me inspired me to be involved in my education. His assignments encouraged self-expressions and focused on personal passions. His lectures were easy to pay attention to and intersting. He is a solid prof that I would 100% take a class with again. The only complaint you have to be on top of assignment right from the get go.
Found to be an easy marker, took CMN2180 with him, and found his lectures to be somewhat useless. If you read the textbook, you would either find regurgitation, or you's sit in class and watch YouTube videos for half of it. Felt more like he had to fulfill class hours instead of actually wanting to teach. Funny, good guy, didn't like the class.
Favourite prof I've had so far. Weird guy in the sense that his teaching style is unorthodox (teaching while standing on our tables) but his class is the only one I attended 100% all semester. Fair but tough with grading. Will definitely be looking to take a class with him again!
coolest prof ever!! literally the only class/prof i liked the whole semester, super nice guy and has really interesting/fun lectures!! just read his book to do well also he literally gives out extremely clear outlines on what going to be on the exams. just do what your supposed to and you'll be alright !
I really wanted to like him, I really did but he uses his courses as an oppurtinuty for people to go read his books, makes you read them and then fails you for not understanding EXACTLY what he was thinking the second he wrote a certain line.
Strangelove is the bomb! Sincerely recommend to any CMN major. Cares about his work/teaching & has fresh take on all the theories/content that is regurgitated in too many CMN classes. Easy content/assignments/tests/grading (easy but effective). Put some thought into ur assignments & read the bookA (seriously, just use the study guide he gives!)
when i saw his name..... i just dorp the course... thats all
Good prof but really rambly. Lectures aren't really worth attending as he starts on topic but the discussion evolves into something off topic very quickly. Read the books thoroughly.
Good prof when taken in a smaller classroom. Tries to be personal & learn names, gets passionate about the material, & tries hard to convey it. Often goes off on irrelevant tangents but if you like media/comms and political thought it's good. He is very self-aware and a little self-deprecating - basically he knows you think he's a weirdo.
The worst prof I have ever had. He acts like he knows it all about advertising just because he wrote a book. In reality, he doesn't know much at all. His teaching was laughable at best. He loves students who kiss up to him. He sang sponge bob square pants multiple times in class and made way too many sexual jokes. Waste of money but an easy grade.
Lots of reading but if you go to the lectures then you don't need to do more than skim them. Ad projects were interesting but felt there were too many considering the amount of time that needed to be put into them to get a good grade. Exam was almost straight from the lectures.
Don't take this class if you don't like making videos for projects, that's basically what he'll want you to do for most projects and even in other classes (taken him before). He may ramble off but I find he explained the content well and I learned a lot from this particular class. Sure he's weird but tries hard to help students and level with us.
Group assignments and attendance for 50% of the grade, 50% a multiple choice final. Video projects were interesting topics, very specific and easy grading criteria. Lectures are a little out there but usually interesting, definitely read the book makes everything else makes sense and focuses on the important things.
Why is he like this?
Wears funny shirts
hes weird but easy to get an A+ in his classes. He makes you do videos but hes very easy to impress. as a media student, i liked that he made us do videos (hes the first to do so) his lectures are so unnecessary and didnt make much sense, but that didnt really affect me cause his final exam is straight from the textbook. no midterm.
Overall great guy! Projects are more hands-on than just having to write an essay!
Ive taken his class twice now. Its taken two classes to learn his teaching style. Hes passionate about left politics and maybe over opinionated. But he gets a bad reputation for just rambling on in class. In short just read the book and be somewhat aware during lectures and it should be fine
Class was called political communication but it was more of an education on why capitalism is bad. This course tended to be structured around his personal self interests in politics rather than something like communication strategies or planning (which was what I think most of us were expecting). Good at teaching, just not the right material.
Overall good prof. Interesting and entertaining lectures, good if you like showcasing your creative side by making video ads. That said, youll need to attend class and do all the readings (2 full books), cause the midterm, being 50% of your final grade, is based solely off those readings and the PowerPoint. I recommend!
Strangelove is a great guy, but this particular course was very biased in its message of anti-capitalism. I would've appreciated a more well-rounded analysis of political communication.
Confusing to understand, seemed to ramble a lot
One Word: Endearingly strange. The Man: Starbucks lover, runner, progressive anarchist, he is a lot of things wrapped into one. Extremely friendly, eager to be helpful and a sometimes even embodies Oprah. Just take him, and you will see. The Lecture: Entertaining, Almost like watching a play with audience participation. He can start off talking a
I had him last semester. His lectures are filled with random off topic discussions. He is a pretty peculiar guy and some people like him some can't stand his lecture style. Tests and assignments weren't always very clear.
Found the professor to ramble and generally waste students time. The content of the course was overly narrow in its scope.
tge course seemed to be overly focused on autoethnography for an audience research course. Definitely could have been more accurately named or described. The course approach seemed awfully anecdotal and lacked an empirical approach. The professor often discussed politics and that seemed unnecessary.
Before the course began I as a little skeptical as he sends out many emails prior to the first class... But he totally made up for that! Amazing, passionate and knowledgeable professor that makes the lectures interesting. Would 10/10 recommend this cool dude!
At first I was nervous to take his class but he is a really caring man, who genuinely wants to help. His lectures were pretty good and he brought cookies to every class. I also liked that we did not have any midterms, just very interesting projects
Amazing prof, knows how to keep our attention. Demand for doing print ads and video ads, easy marker. Follow the instructions and get an easy A! Would take his class again any time!
This was the most bizarre class I've ever taken. Prof would go on different tangents and it was impossible to take any notes. There were two easy video projects and one in class multiple choice final which was very difficult seeing as there was no previous way of knowing what kind of questions he asks. If you can, avoid him at ALL COSTS.
I think Prof Strangelove is incredibly misunderstood. He is a very intelligent person, and sometimes people take his uniqueness and out of the box thinking too seriously. I have taken 3 classes with him and have found that if you are willing he will engage the class in an intellectual debate that is beneficial to your understanding of the world
Very weird, hilarious guy. Hes very strict on attendance (but only the first 2hrs of each 3hr lecture were mandatory) and clearly takes participation and feedback on his lectures seriously. He tries to make the class enjoyable and encourages discussion which can lead to tangents, but the weekly reading summaries made the tests very easy to ace.
I will admit at first I thought professor Strangelove was a little odd. But im starting to realize he may just be so odd because he's truly not concerned with the status quo-much of what he refers to in class when he discusses capitalist control. Be open minded, don't be quick to judge. He has some interesting points that are worth exploring.
One of the best classes I've ever had, one of the only profs who brought a whole class to think out of the box Only thing is you have to be really careful with the emails as the professor uses them a lot and the syllabus started with an assignment on the first day of class (but you couldn't know if you hadn't read your uni emails over summer)
Dr. Strangelove far and away is my favourite prof I've ever had. He is not everyone's cup of tea but I find that refreshing. Genuinely cares about students and doesn't want to "stress us out more than we already are". You have to read in his class but he makes the content interesting and wants us to succeed.
He is the prof I will miss the most now that my University career is finished. His assignments are much more useful than many other courses I've taken in the sense you don't waste time studying for pointless exam questions, but instead read and apply critical thinking to course content. I very much enjoyed the class.
Eccentric, funny, down to earth. Learned a lot.
Eccentric & funny. He goes off topic and talks a lot. But, because of this I learned a lot.
interesting professor, opens your mind, 100% recommend VERY unique university experience if you want something different, take Strangelove.
I honestly hate a lot of professors at Uottawa but THIS DUDE RIGHT HERE! I feel like I ACTUALLY learned ALOT. AND, he made three hour lectures feel like 30 minutes. He really engages students. 100% recommend
Great prof, really funny! Makes the 3 hour lectures go by fast.
Dr. Strangelove is very motivating, helpful, and talented. You definitely have to be in attendance for every class, but he is a very understanding prof and I respect him a lot. No technology is allowed, but class is kept fun and interesting, so you won't care that you do not have your phone. I will definitely take him again.
Mister Strange is quite the gem. Take a class with him if you can! It's interesting, bizzare, and goes by quick.
Strangelove has really interesting lectures and I enjoyed his insights into the world of advertising. He's also pretty flexible with giving extensions for due dates. Definitely worth being in his class!
Really fun class. A lot of course activities, but the professor gives awesome feedback on your drafts so that you can go back again, fix up and get an excellent grade. Everyday snack in class too.
Honestly, strange love is great, especially for advertising. He's a weird dude but super funny and really cares about his students. Always brings snacks to class for us. Also, no exams, only video projects, which I absolutely loved!! Definitely recommend!
Just take this guy's class.
Super dope class
Really passionate prof and gives entertaining lectures. His classes focus on a lot on ethnography. He tries really hard to be a good professor and be liked by his students, which I really respect. Taking a summer course with him was a great idea! Two video essays, a group outing to an art gallery and a final report.
Honestly, he's an easy A. But if you actually want to learn something, don't take his class. It's an absolute joke, and not worth the thousands of dollars it costs to go to university.
Just finished law school and Dr. S is still the worst professor I have had in 7 years of school.
Dr. S really tries to get students to explore what theyre interested in, rather than forcing the enture class to read the same textbook whether were interested or not, then test us on it! Learnt loads in his class. Get to know him, if he recognizes you, youll develop a good relationship with him :)
Had Stragelove for Political Economy of the Media and it was probably one of the best classes I've taken during my undergrad. He take a really unconventional approach to political economy and makes it really applicable to today's political and environmental climate. If you work hard and create something meaningful, you'll do well in this class.
If you put in effort, follow instructions, be curious, and think deep thoughts you will be rewarded. Dr. Strangelove really cares about his students and works hard to teach more than just academic literature.
I had Strangelove for CMN 3133. It was a good class and he was pretty enjoyable. I didn't learn much in his class though. No midterms or finals. Just papers, assignments and online videos based on ethnographic research (in class speakers). I only attended mandatory classes (maybe 50%-75%) and still got a great mark.
Definitely the kind of professor who wants you to leave feeling like you've learned something, regardless of what it is. Cares about every student and wants them to succeed. Heavily inspiring and despite his tangents, if you listen, they're more interesting than any lecture you'll get in another class.
I appreciate how much effort he put into planning the course. The course was more interesting and beneficial than I ever imagined it would be. Out of all the professors I've had, he's one of the few that understands mental health and is considerate to his students. He genuinely cares about the success of his students, just talk to him.
Out of all the professors I've had in my 4 years of undergrad, Dr Strangelove is the most passionate about what he teaches. His lectures/classes are definitely not your typical boring university lecture. Show up to class, follow his instructions, and be creative with your work and you'll do well.
He's an outstanding professor. He gets you to think deeply about the world. He's caring and motivating. I'm taking another class with him again because he's just that good. The assessments can be exhausting, but it's a good test of knowledge, assimilation, and creativity. Take a class with him, and you won't regret it.
Dr. Strangelove put a lot of effort into his lectures. Contacting speakers ahead of time to organize engaging political events during class time. His final project what a little much in terms of guidelines, but if you follow them it is an easy A+ grade.
Strangelove... is strange. His research project instructions are ridiculous detailed that will freak you out. Yet, doing the project is fun but time-consuming and tedious. As long as you follow his instructions to tee, it is an easy A+ as he marks on effort. Attempts to be eccentric but is a nice, caring, and inspirational professor.
Amazing unorthodox professor. No text book required. Easy A if you show up to class. Attendance was 25% of grade!
Great prof, really looks for good effort in assignments but they are quite easy to complete. Would take a class with him again.
He is a really good professor
He is a good professor, and this course helps me a lot on critical thinking on Ads.
Great Prof
A professor who is truly dedicated to his students and only wants to watch them succeed. Very passionate about the subjects he teaches. Just show up to every class and you'll do well.
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND YOU GOOD! He really cares about the well being of his students. Especially during the pandemic, switching from in person to online, he went above and beyond for his students. He was available, flexible and very sympathetic. He made my last semester at uOttawa a great experience.
Amazing Professor! Easy A as long as you follow the instructions and show up to class! Would recommend to anyone!
Professor Strangelove is a reliable one who gives you useful feedbacks, and his lectures broaden your horizon. I highly recommend you guys to take a course taught by him, so that you can have exceptional experience.
Turn up to class and you pass- very funny- theres no pressure to write anything down from lecture slides- just write whats useful - easiest A and assignments are about yourself so you make it as exciting as you want - would definitely take again
Professor Strangelove gives away easy points, and this is a real GPA booster, you just have to take the effort and go to class and follow instructions. He's always entertaining, to say the least, and I would recommend this course, as long as you're not lazy.
No exams, just projects which all had clear instructions and grading criteria. If you do what he says in the outlines, and give half an effort you're guaranteed at least an A. A bit of a wildcard as a prof, lectures can be interesting, but he makes you think critically about things which is good. 1% for every class you go to, so just go to class.
amazing professor!!! super funny, personable and passionate. Thinks outside the box and is hard to follow at times, but really gets you thinking. Make sure you go to class, worth it and attendance matters.
Dr. Strangelove is a great prof who makes it incredibly easy to succeed. His project requirements are simple and you're guaranteed an A+ as long as you follow his formatting requirements. Attendance is mandatory as you're required to submit an assignment worth 1% each class, however his lectures don't require any note taking so it's really no big.
If you want an easy A, take this class. If you want to actually learn anything about the subject, don't. There are no tests, no note taking, but you have to listen to him rant about whatever he feels like for 3 hours a week. 0 marks for late work. Advertising & society? More like "wE LiVe iN A sOCiEtY". Easy? Yes. Complete waste of time? Also yes.
The best prof. Tells it like it is - looked forward to his classes every week. The highlite of my second semester. Have an open mind to his ideas, whether you agree or disagree, he won't hate you for challenging him, because they're just different viewpoints. Can have genuine discussion and won't talk down to you if you challenge. Love him
Loved this course!! Loved Dr. Strangelove!! The work truly is a lot if you let it fall behind, but its a very fair and easy assessment.
Dr. Strangelove is an excellent professor. All of the course requirements are clear and even though the assignments demand a lot of effort, it is easy because he is there to guide us through it.
It was my first time taking this professor after hearing nothing but rave reviews and I was not disappointed my only sad remark was that it was not in person but he made the online lectures entertaining and the course itself was an eye-opener. Highly recommend Dr. Strangelove
Avoid!!!!
Really enjoyed your class professor, but I think it would definitely benefit from a discussion group or some sort of avenue for discourse, there were plenty of topics I would have loved to debate but we didn't have any time for it.
Biggest question is if that's the last name he was born with. I Can Walk!
Dr. Strangelove taught a really interesting course on a really sad topic and tailored it to the fact that we're in a pandemic. Compassionate and interesting teaching, would take again!
The GOAT fr. Considerable amount of writing throughout the semester, however, the project is all about yourself (and who doesn't love writing about themselves?!). Extremely caring and a super fun, enjoyed the upbeat and energetic nature of his lectures. I feel like if I was to run into any of my profs at burning man festival it would be him #avibe
Dr. Strangelove is an excellent professor, especially for the online setting. He encourages you to think outside the box and truly engage with the material in a matter that is meaningful to you. As long as you follow his super clear guidelines, you will do great! I really hope to have him again in the future.
There's no clear direction for his class. If you want an easy A, sure, go ahead, take it. If you actually want to learn about media, stay away. Lectures are ridiculous. He rambles on about his radical views that have nothing to do with the class. You don't need to show up to do well. All late work is a zero; he doesn't accept any excuses.
Dr. Strangelove is a great professor. The only people who don't take away something from this class are the ones who don't try to. You have to come in with an open mind, and if you do, you can learn a lot. The workload is a little heavy since there's a lot of writing but follow the instructions and you should be good.
Proffesssor Strangelove is very knowledgeable and interesting professor. I look forward to his classes because they are so interesting. He is firm and fair. If you do what he says you will get your marks. Definitely recommended!
A good professor who keeps it real. Class was easier than expected Dr. Strangelove cares and keeps the class engaged. Lots of examples during lectures which helps understand the material.
BEST PROF EVER!!! Easy marker, and care about his students. He makes instructions clear and easy to follow, and he discusses each field report at the beginning of the lectures to make sure we understand the report. Show up and follow the instructions, and you will get a high mark for sure.
He opened the world to many. Great professor.
Super kind and interesting Professor. Open to conversation and student feedback, his expectations are clear. You get what you see, no surprises. Honestly enjoyed the course and would recommend it to anyone.
I do not know a single person in the class who didn't get an A+. He's an odd prof with a different personality, but he is EXTREMELY intelligent. I tagged him as a professor who gives a lot of homework and a lot of papers but trust me it's simple and worth it. Weekly papers about life and applying communication to everyday situations. BEST EVER
Always clear instructions for each assignment. Very well prepared prof 10/10 would recommend
Dr. Strangelove was easily the best professor I had during my years at the University of Ottawa. He was extraordinarily knowledgeable, engaging, funny and a great teacher. If you put the work in, you get good grades. He is also compassionate that students have struggles outside of the realm of school, and is accommodating to individual needs.
I read some pretty nasty thing about Dr. Strangelove before being in his class. I was weary but stayed in the class anyways. Boy was I surprised. I had him online so Im not sure what hes like in person but for the few lecture I actually attended live, it really feels like hes talking directly to you despite the 100s of people in the class. Good.
His class is very interesting, I hope that I can meet him again.
Dr. Strangelove is an amazing prof who is passionate in what he teaches! He is very kind, approachable, and knowledgeable in the field of communication. I would highly recommend taking one of his courses!!!
By far one of the most genuine and authentic profs I have ever had. The lectures were informative and addressed genuine issues in the world while remaining interesting and interactive. I cannot recommend this professor enough!
The assignments in this class were always super clear and generally opinion based questions. I don't know anyone who didn't get an A+ in this class. Plus, Dr. Strangelove's lectures were always so engaging. He is super passionate about what he teaches and is always entertaining during class. This class had the fastest hour long lectures I've had.
I love his class! So interesting!
You're guaranteed to get an A in this class. His lectures are slightly disorganized (he goes off on tangents) but he clearly knows his stuff and has lots to share. Great guy. He marks you on whether you've done the work, not the quality. So if you do the bare minimum you'll probably do well. Very, very easy class. I kinda learned some stuff...
Amazing prof, wish I could be in his class in person. Weekly assignments but very simple if you read the instructions carefully. You get out of the lectures what you want, not necessary but honestly, you can learn a lot ab yourself in classes like this. Most of your mark is from the report and video, but no exam which is really helpful.
I have gone to school for 7 years, just finished law school. To date this is the worst professor I have ever had. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Strangelove cares a lot about his students and the courses he teaches. You can tell that he has a lot of enthusiasm for the course content. He is also willing to adapt the course to students' needs, and he is very understanding of what students are going through. Grading criteria is very clear. Follow instructions and you will do well.
Professor Strangelove is one of the most genuine, transparent, earnest, and caring professors I have ever had at this university. I was going to drop out of uni until I had his class. I got an A+ and next semester, I've signed up for 2 more of his courses. He focuses less on traditional lecturing and more on speaking to you like an actual human.
Professor Strangelove is one of the best profs I have ever had. He is fun, engaging, hilarious, caring, and a fair grader. The whole course essentially revolved around the students conducting an auto-ethnographic project. If you put in the work, it is an easy A+ and you will come out of the class having learnt a lot about yourself and society.
Good prof, I find that the pass/fail course work leaves me more bandwidth to think about the theory. Appreciate that approach.
I am happy with the content of the course. Dr. Strangelove is energetic and explains the material well. He put a lot of effort in teaching and we greatly appreciate it. One of the best profs at University of Ottawa!
Strangelove is amazing with providing interesting and engaging lectures. He cares so much about his students and wants them to succeed that he asks for little of our time but maximum effort. His assignments are great to complete & youll never want to miss class!
This is my second class with Professor Strangelove and I cannot recommend him enough! He uses relevant examples during his lectures and does an amazing job at keeping the class engaged !! His projects allow for u to self reflect and provide u with an opportunity to learn about yourself which isnt offered in many other classes through my experience
Was finally able to take a class with Prof. Strangelove after multiple friends recommending him. Great lecturer, can go off on tangents but they're usually related and always interesting. Has a unique perspective compared to other Comms profs. Easy marker as long as you put in a little effort and thought.
Dr. Strangelove is very knowledgeable and open-minded. He actually cares about you as a person and wants you to succeed as a student. He is extremely fair and understanding, also funny! The main project is an autoethnographic study and I've really enjoyed learning this research method as well as gaining practical skills.
Professor Strangelove is truly awesome. He loves teaching and is super passionate of his students. He wants everyone to succeed in his class. I could not recommend him more.
Literally love this prof!
This is the best Prof Ive ever come across in my 4 years of University. He literally wants everyone to get an A and will help you any way he can to get it. His class is very interesting, and engaging. Hes motivational, caring and just pure awesome. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!
Dr. Strangelove teaches in a breath of fresh air unconventional way. He adapted the workload and class length to accommodate for stresses during the pandemic. Everything was pass / fail - the only way to get a bad grade was by not completing work. You can tell he really cares about his students.
The level of understanding, care, and intentional actions by Dr. Strangelove is unmatched. He is transparent, empathetic, and treats you like a human - not a child, not a number. I would take my entire undergrad with him if I could. I have learned so much, academic wise, from him but he's honestly made me a more understanding person.
Passionate professor who cares about the subject material. Unique. Lectures seem a little unstructured and it can be difficult to take meaningful notes. I found it best to attend class, be fully present and immersed in the lecture, and jot down key takeaways after.
Dr. Strangelove is the best, you can already tell by his name. He is such a good guy and an artist which makes his lectures so much more fun.
Dr. Strangelove is a really interesting lecturer and is very clear about his expectations for students in his class. The workload isn't any more than the typical third-year course and if you stay on top of weekly assignments you're basically set up to succeed in your final project. I would recommend taking this class!
This course has turned out to be one of my favourite classes. Dr Strangelove gives engaging lectures, cares about students' wellbeing, and provides students with lots of opportunities for growth and improvement without losing marks. I would definitely recommend this class.
Dr. Strangelove is a great professor! You will get good marks for his assignments if you do them carefully. Even though you have homework to complete every week, you can learn a lot from it. Recommended!
I have taken 6 classes with Dr. Strangelove over the course of my comms degree. He is far and beyond my favourite prof. So caring, really wants to see his students reach their full potential and succeed. Graded on weekly journal style entries & a research report that has a few components over the course of the semester. Couldn't recommend him more!
I have taken 6 courses with Dr. Strangelove and couldn't recommend him more! Easily my favourite prof, really cares and wants to see his students succeed. Projects are fun, and easily doable, just put genuine thought in and care about your responses. I'm actually sad I won't have another class with him again. The best!
Take the class. You will not regret it. Follow the instructions, do your best and the A+ is guaranteed.
After 5 years of uni, Dr. Strangelove is one of my top 3 fav profs. PERIOD. He truly cares about you & your grades. Seriously guys, take ANY of his classes!!!! He wants you to succeed. Fun projects too! Especially with COVID these are hard times for us & our mental health, HE gets that and understands. Best prof that I will always speak highly of.
appreciate this professor for pushing me into doing the best i can in my work. thank you for giving me chances. online is hard but he's one of the very few professors that make you do work that will help you in your final project. it all pays off. he makes you do weekly projects that help u with your final, thus less work to do at the end. amazing.
Please take a course with Dr. Strangelove. Had him multiple times and is one of my favourite profs. He cares more about students actually learning rather than grades. Just do the work and put in the effort and you'll get a good mark. Lectures/assignments are interesting, feels like you're actually learning rather than just doing stuff for grades.
i transferred from health sciences to communications and dr. strangelove was one of the first profs i had. he is awesome and so funny. all we have to do is follow the instructions given and then we finish with As :)
Super sweet prof. Lectures were a breath of fresh air. Classes are structured in a different format (in a good way) from other classes I've taken. One of my favorite classes I've taken so far :)
such a great prof loved his class
If you have the opportunity to take this class, Take it! It is so much different than other classes. The lectures are interesting and the material and assignments are based off of you and what is going on around us. He is very engaging with his students and is always there to answer questions!
10/10
Amazing class! There is a written assignment every week completely based on you and your opinions. You know exactly how you will be graded as long as you follow the rules of the assignments. I would take this prof again without a doubt
dr strangelove is so amazing and compassionate. his lectures are fun and interesting, never felt bored with him
Very interesting course and very interesting professor. I really recommend that everyone take this class of Dr. Strangelove.
I really enjoyed this class. Dr Strangelove’s lectures are really engaging and his assignments are helpful towards the final exam,
Great professor
Great interactive lectures!
very nice professor! would take him again!
Excellent
Would take again
I loved taking this class! Attendance was not mandatory but I still attended because they were interesting. The assignments were very clear and did not take up much time. I defiantly recommend taking this class with Strangelove
Straight forward and easy to complete pass/fail homework. He specifically told us not to take notes during his lectures, which were always engaging. Cares about your learning.
Very good professor, caring about students, assignments are almost irrelevant to lecture content, but if you follow the rules and do your assignments you get full marks. It was easy to get an A+, but I felt like I didn't learn anything. All in all, you should really give this class a try.
He is an interesting and funny professor. In contrast to other courses, this course has no textbook and no paper exams but weekly field reports. This course was inspiring and helped me to understand myself better.
very friendly and caring and insightful
I liked dt strangelove was so inspirational to me
Dr. Strangelove is the most unique professor I have ever had, but in a good way. His lectures were always interesting. He taught us a lot of things, especially how to be the best that we can be. I highly recommend that anyone who wants to learn about themselves and their relationship with media try to get him as their professor.
Really thorough with explaining ideas and concepts. Very unbiased, open and respectful to others and their cultures.
Dr. Strangelove is amazing! He's given the most engaging lectures I've experienced in university thus far, and you can really tell he cares about your education. The course content was very interesting and the assignments were straightforward in terms of instruction but still engaging, easy A if you put in effort. Easily the best prof I've had yet!
This was one of the easiest classes I have taken in my entire life! All the assignments are basically like a diary in which you can express yourself and your creativity :) As long as you follow the instructions you'll definitely get 100% on everything. No quizzes/tests just weekly field reports that (when combined) help with the final video essays
If you are taking this course as an easy elective, go for it. It is basically impossible to get below a 100 in this course. Just do the weekly diary writing and follow his instructions and you will guarantee a 100. You don't even need to attend any lectures, but Dr. Strangelove himself was extremely caring. His lectures were very engaging. Go to em
Best course grade I have ever received. I highly recommended this class. The course material is super fun, you are able to learn about yourself! Take him, you will for sure enjoy his class!
The professor was enjoyable and made the class fun and exciting. Being online, I believe I didn't enjoy his presence as much as I would have had it in person.
Highly recommended his class, you will never regret taking his class! The course content is very interesting, assignments are fun to do, not boring! You will get a chance to do some research about yourself! Hard work can pay off in this class. Follow the instruction, you will absolutely get a good grade and a good comment from the professor!
If you do all of your work and go to class you won't have an issue getting an A in most of his classes even if you don't follow the rubric 100%. (I heard his advertising classes had a strict grading rubric). Wacky guy, funny stories, always had something weird to share every class. Total geek, but in a good way. He might be too weird for some
"I'm not payed enough to do that"
In my opinion, he gives way to much homework worth too little to be motivating. 2% assignments (twice a week) that are all pretty much the same thing is super frustrating. He also sends a lot of emails with passive aggressive comments bordering on patronizing. I got an A+ and could not tell you what I learned in this course.
Dr. Strange love creates interesting and thought provoking lectures. The assignments for this course draw on the students own thoughts, feelings and experiences and allow for artistic expression which is a nice change from the essays and tests required in other courses.
Dr strange love is an amazing professor His lectures are so inspiring, i never felt like missing any of his lecture:)
I really like Dr Strangelove, his classes are fun and there are lots of interesting tasks to complete through the assignments.
Makes attending lectures actually worth it. Dr. Strangelove cares about his students and makes the course content non stressful.
Dr. Strangelove is very unique. His lectures are interesting, although sometimes repetitive, and even though attendance is not mandatory I recommend you attend class because there is always something interesting said. There are no tests, just lots of little assignments, so you can focus on learning and not memorizing. 10/10 would take again.
A teacher that will make you reflect on the state of the world through exciting and fun assignments. Meaningful lectures and easy assignments. Important course in a student's journey to adulthood.
Dr. Strangelove is amazing and never fails to make his lectures fun and inclusive! Definitely recommend taking any and all of his courses!
Easy prof, but you have to do a field report twice a week for this class. Not hard, takes maybe 30 mins each but a little annoying. He throws art work into it which I really hated, but not hard at all
Wonderful! Perfect! Awesome!
HAPPY 60TH BDAY DR. STRANGELOVE!!! As a 5th year student, this was easily the best elective I've taken. If you follow instructions you get an A+. He offers a critical approach to media, and tho there are a decent number of activities, they all are fun, artistic, and encourage humanizing self-reflection I've yet to encounter elsewhere in academia.
Amazing professor. But just in order to get good grades follow his instructions carefully, don't rush and you will get an A+ in his class. He once gave me my point back when I emailed him he was helpful.
Early on, class was very cool: questioning capitalism, climate change, etc... But became redundant. He repeated his ideas so much, like we should fight for them. I'm open, but we don't see other views. However, he's very wholesome, wise & gives easy A+, maybe 2 easily & class isn't media related. So far I have learned nothing but that I must draw.
Dr. Strangelove is a great professor and a passionate speaker. The homework is simple and has clear marking criteria, making it easy to obtain marks. If you are a creative person, you will enjoy the art projects given. I definitely recommend this course as an elective. Dr. Strangelove has an engaging perspective and he shares this in his lectures.
Interesting lectures and doesn't use textbooks! He is very lenient with last minute extensions as long as you contact him at least a day before the deadline and overall it's not a hard class
Imagine writing basically the same homework assignment twice a week for an entire semester to get an A. Such an incredibly dull and unimaginative teaching method. In class he will ramble on about capitalism and have no clear direction, nothing to do with media studies... This is my second degree, and he is by far the worst prof I have had.
In a fast moving world with lots of work, Dr. Stangelove's Intro to Media Studies class is truly a breath of fresh air. The class dives into why we do the things we do and how everything we do has meaning. The assignments are creative outlets where you can talk about whatever you'd like and create whatever you'd like as well! Very enjoyable class!
I cannot honestly say i have learned anything in his class. His lectures aren't coherent at all. On top of that, he grades very poorly and makes us do a bunch of art related things when this is meant to be a communications class . i simply do not have time to craft a sculpture when i have a job and 4 other classes to take care of.
His instructions are very straightforward. His assignments are very repetitive, but I prefer this style of formatting assignments- weekly assignments that are combined to create a lengthy study. The small art projects are a nice break from all the other writing I've had to do. Really encourages you to think about your media consumption.
Amazing prof
Professor Strangelove's course sounds interesting from the start, but then every lecture is the same repeat of righteous ranting that has very little, if anything to do with the course work. And the work for this class is extremely tedious, and coming away from this course "political communication" I feel I have learned absolutely nothing.
dr. strangelove has made me think critically about my media consumption, society, and the world itself. his lectures are compelling and interesting and the field reports are very straightforward and easy to complete! 10/10 would have him again
No course material, little reports for each lecture with short tasks and self-reflections. Each report contributes to the final large report. You learn a lot about yourself which is valuable knowledge!
Dr. Strangelove is one of my favourite profs. His classes always start interesting conversations. This was one of my favourite classes I have ever taken and even though attendance isn't mandatory, I still recommend going because there is always something to gain from it. Also, Dr. Strangelove has the best style of anyone on campus.
He is an amazing professor and I really enjoyed this course.
While Dr. Strangelove's teaching style is unconventional he manages to get across important lesson's about media and the world around you without making the class boring or preachy. Absolutely one of my favourite Profs yet!
Amazing, amazing, amazing!
Great Professor who introduces a different approach to teaching/learning than most university professors. His class work is always focused on the students' personal media journeys instead of memorizing content and theories. He seems to really care and want his students to do well. Very cool guy!
Great and cool lec.
Good lecturer but does not always seem organized for each class. Assignment instructions are extensive, but not always clear and can be contradictory or confusing. Focuses more on instructions and word counts being followed, not the quality of content or effort. That being said, this class is an easy A and the poem and art assignments are nice.
Great professor, fun lectures and allows students to speak their opinions/beliefs! I've had Dr. Strangelove twice now as my professor and I always love dedicating myself to his classes! Can't wait for future courses taught by him!
Ironic how he mentioned not wanting to come off as a creepy old guy but is constantly making weird sexual jokes (actually gross ones). Probably the worst teacher I've had here yet. He's super annoying and does the same monologue about life and showing up and being amazing. He treats his class like a performance more than anything else. HUGE NO
I don't quite know how to rate Dr.Strangelove. He is clearly very passionate about the subject matter, but his lectures are impossible to follow. While I appreciate a course that differs from the norm, the twice-a-week field reports are exhausting and time-consuming. Frankly, I don't have time to be making sculptures. Also a repeat of his CMN1160.
I feel like the same people who complain on this prof be the same people who remind profs about homework, like its easy work idk why people complain. Yea his assignments are repetitive but not really, and it's all really assigned earlier so then the final project is easier to do. I think the prof is great and clear in instructions and lectures.
I can confidently say Dr. Strangelove is the worst professor I have ever had. Lectures were interesting for the first like week, then became excruciatingly repetitive and unrelated. Assigns time-consuming and useless work every week, and grades based on word count and format, not on actual content. Absolutely do not recommend, for your own sanity
someone tell this guy he doesn't need to spam his students every day with 500 word emails and teach him how to summarize while you're at it
So many emails it becomes difficult to keep track. Assignment instructions have grammatical errors and are often not very clear. Attendance isn't necessary, all the lectures ramble on and don't relate to the assignments, of which there are 20 (twice a week all semester, many being 800 words). If you're looking to learn, go somewhere else.
professor is really nice. the assignments are super easy and the lectures are quite fun sometimes! the biggest assignment took me a day to do since every small report done leads up to it!
Every lecture is kinda like a tedtalk. We were graded on field reports, and video essays. Gives SUPER clear criteria on what to do and how to do it. Warning: you will be making lots of art, it doesn't have to be good but it does need to be done like 1-2 times a week. Really nice and chill, super down to earth.
This class was very entertaining. Dr. Strangelove is very passionate in his lectures, there is also some shock value there sometimes. There are two short assignments weekly that come together to make the final assignment. He was a very interesting and fun prof.
If you're not ready/open to be creative and make art (doesn't have to be good) do not take this class because there's many art related stuff. HOWEVER, If you love that kind of stuff (I do) 100% take this course as it allows you to express your creativity and have fun with projects. He marks fairly as long as you follow the instructions given
Even though, from time to time, those field reports were felt like too much (20 in total) and the themes of class can become repetitive,I enjoyed taking this elective with Dr. Strangelove.A fun professor to be around, has a lot of knowledge in media, conveys the material well and a course designed for discovering yourself it was a great experience!
Very good teacher, I had many lessons with him!
I cannot believe this class!!! wanted exactly 1000 words on an essay! EXACTLY 1000. If you're off by even one word you get a penalty of 5 POINTS. Quite ridiculous if you ask me
So amazing! So terrible! One field report is 2000 words, we have to write 10! 10! A field report is only 4%. A total of 20,000 words is only 40%! Crazy! Crazy!
Great professor, I am taking a course with him for the fourth time.
unbelievably fun prof. easy marks, just lots of writing about yourself and artwork (pics/sculptures). he used to do two reports a week but he changed it to once per week so obviously he listens to student feedback. if you just want a high mark go for this prof (as long as you do the marked assignments on time).
Strangelove was such a character. You can never tell what he will do or say next. His marking is very easy, but don't expect a light workload. The assignments aren't hard, but they're weekly and, I would say, require about 2 hours of dedicated work. If you don't like writing about your feelings, poems, or artwork, this isn't the class for you.
This guy's a character he is actually iconic. Super easy marker however the workload will take you a lot of time. The classes are interesting, but it can get a little boring sometimes. I would recommend attending class because one of the final assignments is all about lectures and he doesn't post anything online. No exams which was also a W.
Strangelove is a character. He made me very uncomfortable in the lectures to the point I stopped going. His lectures had no information and were more just him talking about seemingly random things. There were weekly assignments but as long as you read the instructions and do the work the bare minimum will get you an A.
Professor Strangelove is a character - you never know what he'll say next! The workload is heavy but doable, and the assignments are creative. Unstuckstudy AI was a game-changer for helping me stay organized and on top of the weekly work.
Wise, funny, knowledgeble, every lecture feels like he's giving a TED talk. No midterm and final, as long as you put some effort into the assignments, it's an easy A+.
Best prof I've ever had. Lectures seem unnecessary at times, but Strangelove's an extremely interesting character. Graded on weekly assignments that take ~30 minutes per week, and an easy take-home final project. Very easy to get 100% on his class if you follow the instructions.
Dr. Stranglove is a very kind and caring person. I am a first year biochemistry student, and I took this as a fun elective class. His class was always fun, yet informative. I would certainly take his course again!
Dr. Strangelove's expectations and instructions are very clear and easy to follow! If you don't like weekly assignments, then this is not the course for you. I found them easy and it only took me about 1-3 hours for each one. I found his lectures interesting but sometimes they were a little repetitive. He's very passionate about what he's teaching!
Strangelove is amazing. He cares about his students, and the content is easily digestable. Attendance is mandatory you get 5 unexcused absences for the semester. There were weekly assignments and two video-styled finals, mostly opinion based, and didn't take longer than a couple of hours to write. He also gave out his artwork during his lectures!
Super weird guy, but this class is a free A if you do the assignments, which are really easy.
Funny guy, easy class, what a ride this was! No tests, only creative projects which was a nice break from everything else. Get ready to do some art!
Favourite class I've ever taken. I learned more about myself in this class than ever. Strangelove is an extraordinary professor.
Great prof! As long as you're creative, follow his instructions, and submit each assignment on time, you're bound to get an easy A+
Take him for 1160 it's insanely easy, I would show up for the lectures he sometimes tells you more details about your weekly projects. 10 weekly projects in total that take 30 minutes, 2 5 min videos for the final and a research paper that took me 2 hours. Take this class and you'll pass.
Course Code: CMN 5195 - Design, Production And Marketing Of Arts & Crafts. This course was unlike any other I have taken at the masters level but what a unique and great experience. Dr.Strangelove's way of teaching is different from other professors but he goes out of his way to make lectures and work both fun, engaging and interesting. Recommend!
This is a wonderful professor! I love his class CMN 5195 F00 Design, Production, And Marketing Of Art & craft.
