This is the easiest class of ur life. U read a couple books if u want. Take a couple exams which will be a piece of a cake if u fill out the study guide b/c all the questions r on the test. Attendance.. come when u feel like it, b/c he does the same. & just bring some popcorn for all the stories.. ohh yeah & u watch a movie..
He's a very laid back professor for a upper division class. He makes his quizzes at you really don't need to spend lots of time studying for his quizzes maybe about 1-2 hrs are enough. His assignments are very easy as long as you follow his lecture notes. Recommended to everyone!
For an upper division philosophy class you would expect this one to be tough, but he is the easiest professor you can take. Exams are easy if you just fill out the study guide. Written assignments are usually only a page long. Stress free class. Recommend him to everyone.
Professor Sudduth does have an easy class. But that's because he presents everything clearly and up front. None of the crazy "I'll give you a crumb and expect you to find the whole cake on your own" BS that a lot of teachers have. He tells you what he wants you to know instead of making you guess. If you attend class and pay attention, you'll do ok
Ask him about his haunted house.
good class to take and nobody can beat sudduth's stories
I was pretty interested in philosophy but not so much anymore. Your grade is graded on quizzes which I found pretty hard. I failed one, and didn't do so well on the others, and got a C- for the course. The assignments were pretty easy. The movies we watched were great.
I think he's very interesting and a very good teacher! I recommend! funny guy =)
Sudduth is a nice guy and he was understanding when I forgot to bring a paper to class, etc., but for someone who has no interest in Med. Phil., this class was painful. It was really boring and he's a pretty cocky guy. He had some good stories but always let us out of class late. A few easy papers were due and attendance doesn't matter.
He is interested in specifics for the papers. If you hit the head of the hammer right on each nail then he is very easy, but otherwise he does not always mention EXACTLY what he wants and you have to play guesswork. Very knowledgeable in his subject and interesting class. Unorganized, takes the entire semester to get back papers. Easy exams
Fair and consistent, tries to keep students engaged by asking questions that provoke thoughtful knowledgeable answers - so read before class! A little too 'philosophic' sometimes, but that goes with the territory.
Prof. Sudduth was a great teacher. He was fun, kept us interested, and loved the subject that he taught. The readings tended to be more difficult to get through, but other than that, it was an all around great class. As long as you read the readings, you're good to go.
I thought the subject itself was interesting, but going to class wasn't always. (I tend to drift off during repetition, but not everyone gets a topic the first time around.) William James (textbook) is a bit of a windbag, but the NDE stuff is pretty interesting. You don't need to show up to class, but if you don't, make sure you do the reading!
The classes I have taken with Sudduth have changed my perspective on religion, death, and on my own life.He asks thought provoking questions and is willing to share the abundance of knowledge he has. Class is very passable, but NOT an easy A. Read the text, go to class, and participate, and you will come out a different person
Dr. Sudduth is an amazing teacher. He cares for the topic and cares what the students have to say. The text is a bit boring, and Dr. Sudduth does not always clarify what he wants in the papers. But it's philosophy... makes you think. He tells a lot of stories but they are fun, and some fit in with the topic. Awesome professor.
Class is partly lecture, partly discussion. I liked the readings on Hinduism most. Multiple choice mid-term exam and final, and two papers, but one is a rewrite. Sudduth mixes humor with insights about religious ideas. Open to student opinions.
Professor Sudduth is an awesome teacher! I like the way that he shares funny stories with the class to keep us interested.
Horrible teacher. I was really interested in this class and was dissappointed by his lack of depth and knowledge in the subject. Too many off topic stories as well.
Boring and difficult
Other person put the same comments twice. i'll do the same. Class was too late in the afternoon for me but Sudduth made it bearable. Never heard of Zoroastrianism before. Cool religion. Don't know whose putting these negative comments. Sudduth is not a bad teacher. Give it up hater!
This is one of those do it yoursel classes. Showing up was unnecessary. Stay home and just read the books and review the powerpoints. He tells too many stories and thinks he is a comedian. Tests and essays are fairly hard. More factual information on each religion and less personal interpretation would have been nice.
Sudduth is really knowledgeable on the discussed topics. Definitely do the readings, sometimes they're pretty interesting. While attendance isn't incredibly necessary, he did about 5 pop in-class writings that counted towards your grade. Go see the TA to prepare for midterm paper. Sudduth is humorous and the class is relatively easy.
Nothing spectacular
I was dissapointed to see such bias towards the eastern religions. Even Zorastrianism was covered in depth despite being comparatively small in membership worldwide. The old testament was barely covered let alone tested on. Only take this if your primary interest is Hindu, Buddhism, etc. Even mesopotamian religion was covered with more detail. Sad.
i agree with the other student. i would like to have seen more stuff on western religion, but sudduth had health problems this semester that forced him to cut out a lot of material. Be fair here. The material covered was interesting and for the most part clearly taught. his stories keep many of interested when the readings didn't.
Have to agree with the other guy. Uneven material focus. Dude could have assigned the readings via email and posted the powerpoints online so being sick was no excuse. He reuses the presentations so its not like he needed to make new ones. I pay money for the full material, not some edited version. Less stories and he could have made up lost time.
Not easy not extremely hard. Professor helped me a lot with the final paper. Enjoyed Buddhism readings most.
Wow. Don't recall Sudduth having haters like this. 2 years of positive comments. Now trashed. Sad. Rel. Experience was insightful and fun. Took world religions with sudduth a year ago. Seem to recall a lot of material on western religion.
Good class. You read largely primary texts of the traditions, instead of a dry college textbook. Prof made it interesting with stories. I personally found the material on the Gita worth the entire course. But that's just me.
we didn't cover all the material I was looking forward to, but Sudduth was very helpful. Nice guy. sorry to see him bashed by some of my classmates. Probably those deadbeats in the back row with the attention span of a 2 yr old.
Garbage biased teacher. Not helpful and very disrespectful.
Mr. Sudduth is a very exciting teacher. He definitely respects student opinions. I thought the class was easy. Two exams and in class writing. he makes you think hard. Not for slackers.
Only respects your opinion if you are 100% not scientific or logical and instead, try to appear intellectual by spewing forth nonsense theories. Painful and unfunny. Tries way to hard telling stories as well.
Prof. Sudduth made religion come alive to me. Great power points. Two exams. Study questions helped a lot. Great interaction with other students in the class.
Awful. Lame jokes. Wouldn't answer my questions, just gave nagative responses and insults. Not helpful or fair at all. Take a different professor.
Professor refused to waste time answering silly questions. Provided positive responses to intelligent questions. Most of the class laughs at the man's jokes. What more can we ask for? And he makes the texts speak to us. Very helpful. Don't take anyone else.
Really hard teacher. Also relied far too much on his thoroughly unhelpful TA. Didn't want to teach the class himself. Really a bad guy. I would take a different professor. The others all care so much more and put more into their classes.
Wow. I have no idea who would give this guy a decent, let alone good review. Scattered lectures, often misses class, horrible arrogant TA, refusal to answer questions, excessive self-aggrandizing tirades, lack of course direction, inability to explain grading and requirements, frequent unnecessary tangential stories, and really REALLY bad humor.
Worst professor in the entire department. Take any other one.
interesting class about God and religion. professor made the class fun with different stories and i liked the part of the course about near death experiences. midterm exam and final exam. two papers but he let's you rewrite your midterm paper. helped me a lot with my paper.
Very insightful teacher with a sense of humor. We read Wiliam James for most of the course. It changed my ideas about religion. Sudduth knows his stuff. Also he used to be a heavy metal guitarist. Awesome. God and rock. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.
I liked this class a lot. Sudduth got us talking about religion. He's very open to student opinions. I learned a lot from the class. His teaching assistant Wolfgang was helpful too.
Hmm..Ok at first, but I lost all interest with Christianity, didn't even show up for a lot of the 2nd half but still did really well. Wish he did some Islam; don't know much about it. Just do the readings and definitely review his power points on iLearn. Worst TA ever(Wolfgang). Make sure he is not grading your stuff,or you will regret it forever!!
class was well worth it. professor was funny and helpful with assignments. I liked that he tried to show the unity of the religions. TA wasn't that bad. I had rebecca. She seemed more easy going than the other guy. Over all, I learned a lot from the class. Not sure about these negative comments people are leaving, I would recommend the class.
Class about religious experience. Professor taught the course himself. No TAs. He was fair on his grading. Offered me a lot of comments to improve the paper for a rewrite. I found him genuinely helpful. Would recommend, especially if you're interested in God, philosophy, and the afterlife. Got me thinking....
Lousy Professor. Asked him for help on my midterm essay and he told me there was nothing he could do. His TA (wolfgang) had his nose a little too high in the air and is going to make an equally lousy professor. Sudduth is a good lecturer, but not very reliable for extra help.
Huh? Not helpful? No way. Sudduth spent time with me going over my paper and giving me suggestions. Did well on the rewrite. Philosophy isn't my thing but the class was good. Sudduth made things interesting and has a lot of passion about religion but lets students share their own ideas.
I don't know why students are complaining about this professor? the T.A.'s are NOT the teacher. He is awesome. Such a down to earth guy and super easy going. He lets you out of class early a lot. My favorite class of the semester. Gives you all his powerpoints online read those and you will pass your test. Take his class i promise it will be worth
Fun and smart teacher. Learned a lot in this class. Must have a new TA because this guy is cool. Highly recommend.
The worst class I've ever taken. I don't care about getting out early, humor, or his pathetic guitar stories from back in the day. I care about learning the material and being graded clearly. I understand if individual time is limited to emails due to large class sizes, however his arrogance, belittling tone, and inability to teach are unacceptable
The only advice to give is to avoid this professor.
Now for comments from a different student, other than the same student repeating negative posts. Sudduth was totally helpful in meeting with me to talk about my work. I learned a lot from the class, especially about Hinduism. His TA was also very helpful. Grading was completely clear and fair.
Sudduth is a down to earth teacher who cares about his students. He tells helpful stories which illustrate philosophic insights. These negative ratings are clearly a cruel joke of some sort.
I think this class was pretty easy. I got a lot of it. I enjoyed the Bhagavad Gita, and also John's Gospel. Sudduth explains the difficult ideas well. He always asks for student questions and gives respectful answers. He's almost too nice at times. He puts study questions and powerpoints on iLearn. You know exactly what to study.
Cool class. Learned some mind blowing stuff on Hinduism. Professor seemed really into it. TA did a good job. Watched the movie Jacob's Ladder. Liked that. A couple of multiple choice exams. Some short papers. Highly recommend.
Awesome class. Teacher was always available to talk to me after class. Very interesting guy. Take this class! Don't believe the negative ratings.
Good class for an introduction to philosophy and religion. Some of the readings like Augustine were difficult to get into. But I liked the bhagavad gita, and professor Sudduth has some very helpful powerpoints. He's also a nice teacher. I liked his teaching style.
Wasn't really interested in philosophy and religion until this class. Mr. Sudduth was a very helpful teacher. We studied a lot from Hinduism and Buddhism and also Augustine. Mr. Sudduth offered the class extra credit and did everything possible to make sure students did well on the exams.
Teacher is relatively easy. Attendance is not mandatory and all of the lecture notes are posted online. Just read the assigned texts, and do the papers and you'll be fine and pass with decent grade.
He is a great teacher i had him for introduction to philosophy and world religions and did well in both classes. He is very objective and will answer any questions you have. Class is mostly lectures and power points. If you pay attention in class you don't need to read all the material, he gives study questions of exactly what is on the test.
I didn't appreciate the general negativity and superiority complex he has. Class was not very good, and the presentation of the material was monotonous. Don't bother going to class, just read the books.
If you thinking of taking his class I strongly urged you NOT to do so. I have a lot of interest in the subject of religion and he made it utterly and entirely boring. His lectures are immensely dull, he paces back and forth while staring at the floor, it is very difficult to be engaged. It is a total waste of time to go to class.
Wish I took a different professor or waited for another semester. This guy was horrible. His class this semester was the worst philosophy course I have taken at SFSU. I won't be taking him again. Like others said, don't take him. If you do, don't bother with class, just read the books. He botches the info with his bias anyways.
Interesting class. Professor was very helpful with my mid-term paper. Not sure why some students are giving him a negative rating. Doesn't make sense to me. He's a friendly and well-informed teacher.
Very approachable and fun teacher. Got an A on the midterm paper and Sudduth still provided lots of comments. Cares a lot about the subject matter and students. Highly recommended.
I agree with the positive ratings. Professor was very helpful. Offers a lot of extra credit. Explains exactly what will be on exams. Really hard to do badly in this class.
Course on religious experience. Some very intriguing readings and class discussion. Sudduth is a very flexible teacher. I would recommend him to any serious student. So he stares at the floor occasionally when he's thinking through issues. He definitely engages the students. One of the best philosophy and religion classes I've taken.
He's a good teacher and he knows his stuff it's just that he doesn't do the grading, his TA does. Not from my mouth, it's from his and the TAs. So in my opinion that creates the biased view, plus the TA will teach once in awhile and sometimes he switches up the topics. Idk it's up to you to take this class. I wouldn't recommend it.
Strange comments. Was in the same class as the other student. The TA only taught the class once and he did NOT do all the grading. TA only graded our response papers, not exams, which was totally easy! Anyhow, the TA taught his own philosophy classes at SFSU before. He seemed to know what he was doing. I liked him. So chill. :)
Pretty easy class. Professor puts powerpoints on ilearn and provides study questions. Two exams multiple choice, and two papers. Reading isn't too demanding. Some of the topics were a bit boring but some were interesting. Liked the stuff on eastern religion most.
Sudduth is terrible. The class was an unfathomable waste of time. Don't bother with this guy, he just plain sucks.
I thought the class was fascinating and well organized. Sudduth was extremely helpful. But philosophy is not for everyone.
Entertaining professor. You learn about different religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity. Not so much historical. More ideas focused. A lot of class discussion, some power points, and some lectures. Liked the comparisons between the Koran and the Bible.
Sudduth is awesome! Loved this class!
Prof. Sudduth really did a good job at explaining how western and eastern religious philosophies are similar. His stories kept many of us interested. Be aware that uses a TA, but the TA was very friendly and fair.
Professor Sudduth was pretty bad but nothing horrible. He should really cover all religions equally and without bias. I just wish I had taken a different professor. The TA is the real problem. What an arrogant young man. Sudduth should really do the grading and all lectures himself, as well as fix up his own errors. Until then, I would go elsewhere
I really enjoyed this class. He breaks down a religion to the core tenets in a power point and then uses the texts to build around those core tenets. His essays require you to think but they clearly have a way out. He gives great examples and shares personal analogies. I highly recommend him.
The TA that grades everything in this class is ridiculous. Grades the papers SO harshly. No one got an A on the last paper. Wouldn't recommend this class because of the TA. Also, even if you write a good paper, you won't get an A if the TA doesn't like your writing style.
Great professor! Super passionate about the subject, and extremely well versed with the material. The midterm and final aren't bad at all if you attend class and take good notes. He actually goes over exactly what'll be on the exams the day before. My only complaint would be his TA. He graded the papers unreasonably harsh.
Fairly simple class. Grade is based on several short essays, all of which are easy as long as you can write at a college-level, and Multiple choice final + midterm. Class is mostly lecture, occasionally discussion. Can be dull sometimes, but he tries to keep it interesting w/ humor. Approachable and very knowledgeable.
I can get A's on my papers in English classes here at SF State but can't manage to get above a C on the papers in this class. Sudduth is very cool and funny but unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this class.
awesome professor, knows his stuff, very helpful, very arguable, 2 tests (50ques)from study guide and lecture material, 2 essays . the only thing is if the TA sucks it could effect the essay but the prof would over rid his TA . Fun class, do well on the essays and the test.
I really liked him. His TA (Gunik? sp?) was also pretty cool. The lectures were pretty interesting, a few powerpoints. He made tests pretty easy to study for. However, they were pretty harsh on grading the papers. For the first one, they never specified they wanted a "references" page and took off half a grade for EVERYONE. Otherwise, a good class.
He gives out the lectures quite clearly and even goes over the assigned reading which is good since it is sometimes hard to follow. He makes his tests fairly easy and goes as far as to giving hints. It really boils down to which TA you get since the TA grades the papers. Our TA was a bit of a harsh grader and didn't even tell us where to improve.
A hands-off class, where all you have to do is write a long research paper. If you stay on task and don't wait till the last minute, it's easy. Hard to grade Sudduth, because all he really did was collect the essays. He didn't really instruct at all.
Like many others have said, Sudduth is tolerable. He could improve by balancing out his coverage of religions though without only focusing on a few in ridiculous depth. His TA is the most arrogant pompous fool I have ever met. It is Sudduth's responsibility to replace a TA when they lecture horribly and grade even worse. Take another professor.
It's the cutest thing when we talk about religious ideas of love and he applies them to his girlfiend. He's a dork and makes you love the guy. Class is clear and interesting, tests are easy if you study detail, but TA grades essays in which you have to say what THEY want for an already vague prompt.
He is a really cool and funny teacher, and his class is easy but interesting. He likes to tell stories about his life in relation to the lectures which is always funny and engaging. I recommend him for Intro to Philosophy and Religions.
Sudduth is a cool guy, come to class, read the notes/pp's he posts online and you will do fine. Also, make sure to do the study guides before the exams, they really help.
Professor Sudduth was a very helpful and enthusiastic teacher. I like how he presented the readings in class with lots of personal examples from everyday life. Study questions and powerpoint slides are on ilearn and he does a review before each exam. Good intro to philosophy of religion.
Very good teacher. Learned a lot about different religions. He does a lot of comparisons between religions, like Hinduism and Christianity. Some cool power points, helpful notes and study questions on Ilearn. TA was pretty good too. Would have liked a better grade but still a cool class.
Good lecture, clear in material. You must do the study guide if you want to do well on the exams
Sudduth is a fantastic lecturer! The guy is incredibly knowledgable about the subject and makes learning about religion very interesting. 5 response papers throughout the semester. All of them graded by the TA who graded really easily. 2 tests, a midterm and final. Both are fairly easy. MAKE SURE YOU READ. If you don't, you WILL be lost.
Sudduth knows this subject really well and makes religion interesting. The response papers are fairly easy and the study guides for the the exams are really helpful. Just make sure you do the study guides while reading the books.
He is absolutely a GENIUS. He gets a bit...large, with his concepts, but he truly is a mindblowing guy, he'll literally just blow your mind almost daily, and use excellent anologies and give a great analysis of many religious of the world and you'll learn more than what you expected. just make sure to actually read! He was also a rock star/stoner..
Great professor. Highly recommend him. I didn't even read that much, but you don't have to go to class, most of the notes are on iLearn. 5 papers, but only gave 4 for us and gave us A's on the last one. His TA grades really easily. He's really funny but also helpful as he shows interest in the subject.
a little hard. He uses very deep philosophical language which can be somewhat confusing at times. Only take if philosophy is your major or if you truly have a genuine interest in it.
Overall, great professor. The topics covered in class were interesting. Though it can be boring since the class was late in the afternoon. Papers and exams were fairly easy. Materials on iLearn are really helpful if you don't want to read. Definitely recommend him.
Amazing professor. He is beyond brilliant. If you're not interested in religion (whether for it or against it) his lecture may bore you but its mind bending! Plus attendance is not mandatory. 4 papers and two exams. I finished to papers without completely reading the texts. Before exams he goes over the exact answers for a lot of the qs!
Professor Sudduth is excellent and passionate of what he teaches. If you're interested in world religions I would definitely recommend this class. The lectures aren't mandatory but I would recommend to go because he makes a lot of good jokes too. The grading is based solely on 2 papers and 3 tests, all of which are easy if you study.
Dr. Sudduth is passionate about what he teaches. He is clearly brilliant and has a way of making deep philosophical concepts resonate in my own life. It's clear that he cares about his students and the content. I HIGHLY recommend.
Sudduth didn't seem like a bad guy, just a really bad teacher.
I absolutely ADORE Dr. Sudduth. This class was absolutely amazing and eye opening. He was very passionate about everything he taught, and was always willing to answer any questions. There are essays for each book you read though, so be sure to read or at least pay good enough attention in the lecture. I wish I could retake this class again.
Sudduth is a great guy who clearly cares about what he is lecturing on. The class is based on 5 different books you have to read, so if you don't like reading this class isn't for you. We had 3 take home papers that were pretty confusing to write about but the TA was a very lenient grader. 1 midterm/1 final all based on his review sheets study that
He's a really nice guy who's passionate about Hinduism. The only person in the class who had a problem with him was someone who believed in Hinduism as well, and got unnecessarily offended by Sudduth's way of teaching it. This guy is a PhD in philosophy and has been studying Hinduism for years, so I'm preeetty sure he knows what he's talking about.
Not the best teacher. The books and the topics are interesting, but he rants a lot. He is highly knowledgable about western religions, but eastern ones seem to confuse him. He repeats himself, and concepts multiple times. Take it with another professor.
By far one of the greatest professors i have had. Class is difficult, but gets easier if you do the readings. Listen to his lectures he is a professor that is truly interested and connected to what he teaches, good show.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN EASY SEGMENT III. If you want to do well, the class will be tedious, with a lot of reading, and the final paper is very difficult if you don't fully read and understand the first book.
I LOVE Michael Sudduth, I've taken classes with him before but by far the hardest class I've taken at SFSU. Don't take it unless you're a philosophy major or planning on doing something with philosophy. Attendance isn't mandatory so it's hard to find motivation to go.
Sudduth is one of the best professors at SFSU. He is incredibly knowledgeable in the fields of philosophy and religious studies and makes his classes more like conversations with his students than straight lectures. Two papers (with feedback before final draft is due) and three exams which are easy if you study his study-guides. Take his class!
Took for GE seg 3. Sudduth is a sweetheart. Soft-spoken, easygoing, has a great sense of humor. Class was very relaxing and interesting. 3 exams on Hinduism, Buddhism, and Abrahamic religions (30% of grade for first two and 25% for final). 2 papers (5% for short reflection, 15% for term paper draft and 25% for term paperrewrite).
I loved Intro to the Origin of Religion class with Sudduth because the amount of effort you put in was ALWAYS reflected in your grades. Are the lectures long? Yes the entire class is composed of lectures. Fair grading system, 3 papers, 4 quizzes, 1 final that is mixed. Quizzes always curved. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate guy.
This class is very compelling and Michael has a lot to share. I would just like to point out though that if you are someone who needs homework in your grade to balance out tests, this isn't the class for you. There isn't any homework for intro to origin of religion at all. I also barely used any of the books so that was a waste of money.
I took this teacher almost 2 years ago and I can still say that Sudduth's world religions class was the best class ive taken at SFSU. Sudduth has some awesome stories and he's pretty funny too! I would take this class again if i could. Broadened my understanding of world religions and I actually use what I learned from this class in real life.
He's an Oxford University PhD so he knows his stuff, but he lacks teaching skill. He will mostly only go over the essentials and leave all the details either to his outlines online or to your notes done on the readings. He tends to repeat the concepts over and over again. He WILL favor Eastern philosophy so be ready for that...
Best teacher I have had. I took critical thinking with him over the summer; not only did I immediately change my major to philosophy but am way ahead of everyone else in my Phil 205: Formal Logic class. Incredibly intelligent, funny stories, and even better lectures. HIGHLY recommend.
Don't take his class, I've never had a class more boring. You must do the reading to pass, and you honestly don't need to even come to class. I would not recommend taking this class, Ive never disliked a class as much as I did this one. The class consists of 2 exams, 1 midterm paper, and 50 question finale. If you don't have to take it, then don't.
Easy class, two quizzes, a final. The study guides are very helpful. An essay, you get to do a first draft and get to improve on the final one. The bad thing is he read off the book which made class sort of boring but I would take him again
Mr. Sudduth is a great philosophy teacher I took him for five classes, and enjoyed all of them. Philosophy of Religion was the hardest class out of all of them. Great man, take him for the Natural of Religious Experience if you want to gain wisdom.
Mr. Sudduth is a great lecturer and doesn't mind if you take awhile to catch up on the material. As long as you comprehend what he talks about in his lectures, and do well on quizzes / papers. He will pass you, he is definitely up there in terms of friendliness, humor and passion for his material. Tied for best philosophy teacher at SFSU hands down
He is funny during lectures. You barely need to come to class to even pass, but a con to missing a class would be a cost of reading the chapter to yourself, at it is quite a length. Participation in this class is a must! He doesn't require everyone to speak, but you'll get a B if you just don't talk at all in class. I would say he is cool though!!!
He's a pretty cool dude, he spends a lot of class time going off on tangents. Definitely go to class-even if it's boring- he explains everything in detail and it's pretty easy to follow along. Do the homework, it's not too much work if you keep up. All of the answers are either in the back of the book or he goes over it in class.
sudduth is a cool guy but his lectures can be really boring. he gets off track sometimes and it can be hard to focus. but he is really understanding if you're having issues with an assignment. class is not mandatory but still recommend going because he will often go over exact questions for test review and give the answers. also funny sometimes :)
Michael's lectures are very long. I showed up to class everyday but paid no attention. I did homework and studied for tests on my own. Compared to other phil110 classes his class is less work. There are 3 exams, a final, and homework almost every night but is not collected until exam day. Its an easy class but beware that you'll be put to sleep.
Approx. 5 short response papers, 3 exams (one per section with study guides), a good size midterm paper, and a final exam (cumulative). Attendance not mandatory. Lectures relatively easy to follow (often goes off topic but the stories are interesting). Funny Professor. Interesting course. Easy A as long as you do all the assignments & study guides.
The professor was pretty fast at feedback and if you had any questions he was open to talk to you and walk you through your grades. Very lenient grader. Attendance isnt mandatory but I recommend it especially before an uncoming test because he usually goes over the exact exam!
I can tell that he tried and that he likes teaching, but he repeats himself in class a lot and so it felt like I didnt really have to go to class. However, his grading criteria was really specific and as long as you followed what he wanted its in Easy A
funny and boring at the same time. just come to class and listen, he will give exact exam problems and answers sometimes. best philosophy teacher at SFSU.
He's cool but there are too many videos that we have to watch.
By far my favorite Phil prof. he's really easy going and his lectures are super easy to follow since his website is up to date everyday. however, he always goes off on tangents and talks a lot about his life in the 70's during band practice. they are pretty funny stories but can be really distracting which is why a lot of my friends are struggling.
Phil 101 w sudduth is my favorite class! This is my favorite class because the work load is so easy and his lectures are entertaining. Reading is not necessary to pass, but the homework is. Sparknotes usually covers the reading material and he usually finds interesting videos/topics so hw is a breeze. 300 word response once a week. Easy af
The lectures in the class aren't super engaging because the content of the class is largely based off of the textbook. He is nice and encourages students to speak up.
As a person he is very entertaining. However, don't recommend taking him during these remote learning times. Assigned homework & never shared correct answers so by the time the tests came you didn't even know if you were doing it right and were understanding the concepts correctly. Seemed like they didn't want to be there to teach & COVID proved it
I have had him for the past two semesters. Came into his Being and Knowing class after his Phil 101. He is educated on the course. Will always meet with you during office hours. Answers emails. Cares about his student's success. Weekly assignments. They are pretty easy, just care, and try when you write the responses. Attendance matters.
The class is very straight forward and the grading criteria makes it easy for you to plan for things ahead. The T.A's grade your home-works and they answer you right away by email. He's a good lecturer and suggests good videos online to watch.
Pretty interesting guy, had him for online class. Always slept through the lectures so they aren't super important but I did the readings or looked up summaries. Do the response forums, he lays out everything you need to get full credit. Quizzes were easy, use the handouts he created to study because thats where he pulls questions from. Cool dude
easy going class, just do the assignments which is weekly due. his exams are multiple choice. you can also find the textbook online for free but all in all he's pretty cool
He is awesome if you don't understand anything he has office hours every week. He gave 8 assignments, 3 Exam, 4 discussion forms and 5 extra credit the whole semester. he gives a lot of grace periods and he simply just gives you full credit for just completing the assignments.
There are weekly online lectures over Zoom that you have to join for points. The tests are pretty easy if you pay attention. He gives a lot of extra credit points and gives a lot of extensions. Overall good professor, and would take him again.
Was an interesting class, but you really have to make sure you understand every concept in order to pass. You are tested on everything for the midterm and final exam. He seems like a cool guy, but it was a zoom class. Sometimes the lectures do get heavy and it is important to reach out if confused.
The class is straightforward, with weekly assignments and easy-to-follow lectures. Though sometimes long and tangential, the professor is helpful and provides good study resources like unstuck ai. With some self-discipline, you can do well in this engaging course.
Sudduth is an excellent professor. He provides generous grace periods for turning in work, making deadlines manageable. The only significant requirement is watching a lot of videos, but overall, I would highly recommend taking his class!
Prof Sudduth is great! His online class is well-organized with a clear timeline, making it easy to stay on track. You'll need a book, (physical or e-book), and lectures are pre-recorded. He offers generous grace periods and sometimes extensions. For homework, just follow the prompts closely and you'll earn full points with ease. Highly recommend!
He offered a lot of extra credit and grace periods. You will need a textbook. The assignments and the exams(2 exams) were not hard at all if you did your readings. You'll be able to pass with a good grade if you regularly do your assignments, extra credit, and the exams! The exams (mid-term and final) were all multiple-choice questions, super easy!
Easy class. There's videos to watch, pages from the textbook to read, and assignments every week which are graded on completion. There are three tests (incl. final) in the semester, which all are online, open note, no time limit, and they're easy as long as you're watching the videos, doing the HW and the provided review sheets.
clear bias, 'right' answers are usually just his opinions... EG: - Spoke about a recent controversy of a hospital bombing in Gaza by the IDF. Argued: Due to the main impact occurring in the parking lot of said hospital, as opposed to directly hitting, the argument was invalid. Stated it was about source reliability, used IDF reports.
Simple class with like an assignment due once a week based on the textbook. Assignments are relatively easy if you watch the videos or just go through the slides he provides. He is also very generous with grace periods and extensions on all assignments, discussions, and exams.
