enjoyed teaching the material, lectured a lot
Cool guy and he is totally hot
he was a great teacher. i loved his class. he was soooooooooo hot too.
Ok this prof. really isn't a good prof. I've had better teachers but he is so freakin hot. I would definitely not take another course with him.
Great Teacher, Pretty easy, just show up to class itll be worth it.
He is soooooooo HOT!!!
He was a good teacher and SOOOO HOT!!!!!!! i would definately take another class by him.
Really good teacher. Gives you all questions on midterm beforehand. Lectures a lot.
Best teacher ever. Grades unbelievably easy. Makes class fun and interesting.
Prof. Michael Tafel is so freakin hot! Was good lecturer- make history fun! Definitely take him again for another class... Best looking Professor at Depaul!
He is an easy professor but a complete waste of time. Sure he's cute but I thought he was mediocre as a professor at best. He is hard to get ahold of and showed up to class late many times. I would not take another class with him. DePaul has better profs.

Everything is so clear. No HW, just assigned reading. The textbooks are asy and clear to follow. Prof. Tafel explains in an easy-to-understand story kinda mode. Midterm and Final are discussed a lot prior to taking them. Great teacher!
Despite the fact that he is a young gun, this professor is very knowledgeable. He knows the contents of the books like the back of his hands. The cool thing about this proffesor is that he is very humane, empathetic and easy going.
Very cute~has a passion for history and knows his stuff. He hardly takes roll but you will not want to miss his classes. He grades on little other than exams.
If i was a History major, I probably wouldn't like him. But if you just need to fulfill your liberal studies requirement, he knows his stuff and is really nice. It was creepy that he looks exactly like my friend's ex boyfriend though.
There is nothing major to do just read the chapters. Gives you everthing for the exams, so if you study that no problem getting an A. Oh there is one paper, your source is the only the text.
Very passionate about what he teaches. Easy to talk to and relate with whether it's class stuff or life and he's available outside of class. Oh and he's super hot and a total renaissance man man. Take him!
Very easy ... on the eyes, on the brain and all of that. It helps when the professor actually has a life outside of teaching, which Tafel does.
DePaul put one of the wanna be's in this class. He has a masters degree..not even in a PHD program. And we pay for it. You figure it out! Thanks History department!
Cute is no substitute for knowledge...he has little of that. Thanks DePaul. My money should be worth more than this!
Great teacher I went to every class and really learned something. Also he is very easy 1 paper, 1 quiz, and the to exams were easy as well. Take him.. :)

Great teacher!!!
Tafel teaches you about "old school" civilizations. Thats a term he would use. Great guy
He is awesome!! He made going to class a pleasure :) He knows a lot, and teaches well. He tells it like it is, and is such a sweetheart. I would definatly take him again if i could..
Flexible and fun. Lectures on history are more like story-telling sessions...makes it more intersting, not to mention cute too! Understands that we have stuff going outside of class..difficult to find at DePaul!
He is a GREAT teacher... im not into history or night classes to much but i went to almost every class and got a A. Amesome person to talk to and get help from...TAKE HIM... hes good looking... ;)

Mr. Michael Tafel is a great professor. His lectures are very interesting because he is an amazing story teller. He is not only an inteligent but also a handsom man. I recommended him to all my friends.
He was so easy and understanding. You really do not have to come to class or read the book. He usually goes over everything that he wants you to know anyways. He gives you a study guide to the test and those are the exact questions that he will ask you on the test. TAKE HIM!!
FRATBOY! WHAT DO WE PAY FOR HERE? DEPAUL MUST DO BETTER THEN THIS GUY.
Awesome teacher, maybe the beat teacher at DePaul, his class is really interesting, I actually LOOKED FORWARD to going to this class. The teacher has an amazing personality, plus he is sooo good looking, wow...

the love of my life, hilarious and a little boring and the weirdest man alive but just do the study guides for the midterm and you will do great, just final, midterm and the easiest paper ever are all you do.
he is a part-time teacher. what can you expect from him? there is no need to use your brain in his class. if you do not want to learn and get an easy grade, take him.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! GO MICHEAL TAFEL!!
Highly recommend. No surprises on midterm and final. Paper was not difficult. I did extremely well in the class.
Let's see, this class taught by someone who is not even in a phd program costs me how much???
wish I had read the comments before I took the class. He is a frat boy.
cool dude, actually has a life outside of teaching. unbelievable lecturer as well. take home essay part of the midterm and gave us the essay question before the final i mean what more u want. def take him
Take this guy if you want to get an easy A. That's what your money will BUY you cuz he knows nothing other then what the history channel can teach. Make sure you drink lots of coffee and pretend to enjoy his "cuteness"
Fantastic story teller, I could listen to him tell stories all day, regardless of coffee consumption. He is very knowledgable. If you actually want a History class from a person who is into the material and doesn't just assign readings for you to memorize dates and names then Get on the Tafel train. Just don't miss class lectures are vital.
Even though not many people respond to his questions and talk, the class is still interesting. I'd definetly take this class again.
He's definatly passionate about history, but my pillow needed a pillow.... Easy grader, easy class, however not the best of teachers... it helps just to gawk at his "adorable-ness"
Pleeeeeease give us a real Professor, ya know, someone with a degree in the stuff taught! I am really sick of the adjUNKS at this place. For what we pay we deserve more then "cuteness"
Michael Tafel is a big JOKE. If you have at least an ounce of respect for your time or your money, you will not be too pleased with his class and "teaching style" (or whatever the heck that is). The entire class (if he bothers to show up) is a parade of his ego, which must compensate for lack of intelligence. Can you say "incompetent"?
He has a unique teaching style and concentrates more on social history. He breaks down history so it's not extremely boring. All you have to do is show up and take notes.
Best History teacher ever taken. Not a history fan but he keeps the class intersting. Highly Reccommended
Lucid and enthusiastic lectures, which are alos very engaging. Maintains everyone's attention during the lecture and uses helpful supplementary sources, such a hand-outs and films. His lectures are also very well prepared and delivered with clarity. Mr. Tafel has a wide-ranging, historical knowledge! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This guy doesn't have a real degree in anything he teaches. Look him up! Girls like his boyish charms...if that's what you call it. Why do they hire him? Guess he comes cheap.
Prof. Tafel knows history and conveys it in his lectures. He's very knowledgeable--there was not one question that he did not answer with great detail. Very well organized and informative lectures.
Cool guy, relaxed, helpful. I hate history but this was sort of an interesting class. The final and mid-term are essay, but he gives you what to study before. You also have to write a paper towards the end of the quarter which isn't too difficult.
A very good professor. He's very down to earth, has a good sense of humor, and keeps you interested. And damn he's hot!
oh my god...i love him...just started one of his class...a night class on a week but i wish i had him every night of the week!
Young Prof but knows his stuff, makes class interesting and NOT boring like history classes are. Key is arriving on time and taking good notes during lecture. great teacher!
Great teacher, very knowledgeable. Soooooo hot. Can I marry him please?
Very good teacher makes class interesting very little homework if any just one paper and two tests. Take him for sure.
Midterm, essay, final. Tells you what's on the tests, super easy paper. Enthusiastic about history, makes his lectures fly by...also very nice to look at so that helps entertain if you're bored
THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY SCHOOL CARRER he knows sooo much and the class is kept going by jokes and it is never boring when he teaches
He's hot and that's about all he has going for him. Biggest waste of my time.
Professor Tafel was the best history teacher I've ever had. He is young and so Hot which makes you want to come to class. He always let us out early of night class. Makes lectures interesting and tests are right off the review sheet. Readings aren't bad plus he explains them in class, I studied for the final the night before and pulled off a B+
It is true that he is hot, but more importantly he is a GREAT history teacher. I'm a history major and this was by far one of my favorite classes (and I've taken many 100, 200, and 300 level courses). He is very engaging, gives clear, informative, and interesting lectures, and one can really learn a lot in his courses.
Thinks he is still the cool guy, bot realizing that was 10 years ago.
Down to earth, cool guy. Very easy going, but def knows his material. Show up to class and take notes, and you'll have no problem. Midterm, Final, and maybe a small paper and he tells you exactly the topics that are on the tests. Computer Science major that hates history, but would def take another class with him. Great teacher.
Dynamic instructor with clear and engaging instructional style.
This teacher is very smart. He does not call on people to participate.I noticed he is very polite and does not make students feel like garbage after they make a comment or speak up in class. Some teachers are not like that they will pick on your mistakes and humiliate your comments and thats high school to me. He is clear and prepared! take him.
I had absolutely no interest in history but had to take this class. I'm so glad I took it with Prof. Tafel. I seriously don't get the negative reviews on here. The guy is nice, a great lecturer, passionate about the subject, and smart. The tests were not difficult as long as you attended class and listened. Also, he's cute... why not attend?
great class and great professor
Great professor! He uses powerpoints a lot, so take notes on those and you'll be fine on tests. His lectures are fun to listen to, you can tell he tries to put everything in his own words. Definitely take him for a history class :)
Lots of PowerPoints sometimes hard to follow, but overall an easy class. He's passionate and helpful.
super cool dude. weekly reading, nothing else. small paper, group proj, midterm and final (which he gives you the questions ahead of time) and participation all worth 20%. made material very interesting but wasnt a stickler about grading. take him for all your history classes.
Took him last quarter, horrible experience switched up his curriculum so it was nothing like what I had expected. Alot of readings and time outside of class required. Midterm was very difficult, and Final.. was even worse. Take this class if your willing to put in the work.
okay class, study hard and you will get by..lots of powerpoint slides so you need to take very good notes and keep up with readings. slackers beware.
Passionate, Easy going, keeps things interesting and is cute. What else can you ask for?
He is a great professor make the class very engaging. He likes history and by the end of the 3 classes I took with him I loved it too. He is easy going and understeranding. Midterm and Final are easy He gives you the questions and you just study what he gives you
I consider this one of the best history classes i took. I really didn't like History but after I took this class with professor Tafel i changed my mind. He makes the class very understandable and he gives you opportunity to have a good grade for the class. We had a quiz, a presentation, a midterm and a final. Suggest to take him.
Overall a great Professor. Very clear in his expectations and truly cares about the subject matter. Makes himself available for students who need additional help outside of class. A moderate amount of reading, a group project, a final paper, one or two quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Highly recommended and brings liveliness to the classroom
A great professor with clear expectations and course outlines. Cares about the material and is very engaging. A moderate amount of reading, a group presentation, a final paper, one quiz, a midterm, and a final. Highly recommended
This was the first class that I took at DePaul and I was impressed! Mr. Tafel is very interesting and discusses the quizzes and tests right before the exam. He also gives you the essay questions in advance so there is no need to worry about your tests if you do your work. If you do all the readings youre completely fine in this class.
GREAT teacher. He is easy to listen to and not boring at all. He pretty much gives you the questions to the midterm and final. 100% recommended!
Extremely straight forward prof. The midterm/ final is the same as the study guide
Guy is straight forward and as long as you put in some effort, you can get an A. He gives you the questions for the mid-term and final beforehand, just write your answers and memorize them beforehand. Taken him twice and gotten an A both times and definitely going to take the other class he teaches. Take him.
Professor Tafel is a really cool guy. The lectures are fun because he always keeps them exciting. He gives out extra credit so it's best to do them. He gives you the questions of the midterm and test a week before. He wants to make sure that you are prepared. Review the PowerPoint the answers are all there. Do the readings as well. Easy A.
Hands down best history teacher I've ever had. Great lecturer, Great Man!
Best professor I have ever had at any school. He actually made me want to attend his class. There are 3 grades. Midterm and final which he gives you a week prior to the test and you can ask questions about and there is a paper, that's it. He is so energized and enthusiastic about his lectures you want to pay attention. Also an easy guy to talk to.
His class is very straightforward if you just take notes. Lectures aren't boring cause he's so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about history. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he's quite handsome so class is a pleasure to attend. Probably the hottest professor on DePaul's campus.
I absolutely hate history but Tafel makes everything clear and easy to understand. He gives you quiz questions and exam questions in advanced but because of that you have to really know each one. I think only one paper and he gives extra credit. If you do poorly on the midterm he will provide you with extra credit. TAKE HIM!! best decision i made.
Amazing lecturer. History is a boring subject but he really made it interesting and I learned a lot. Gives a reasonable amount of work, which is very doable. Very generous grader. I will definitely re-take him again.
Easy A. You just have to show up to class and pay attention. He gives you the questions of the midterm and final 1 week before the actual test date. He is not a tough grader, but make sure you give a lot of details when answering the test questions. You will lose points if you are not detail enough. Besides that he is a real gem. TAKE HIM!!!
Took this class as part of the UP domain, and I am glad that I did. Professor Tafel presented the material in a very clear and concise manner. I learned a lot from this class. It consisted of textbook and source readings, quizzes, source summaries, a group project, a midterm, an 8+ page research paper, and a non-cumulative final.
Tafel is absolutely amazing, he gives all the questions before each quiz, test, and midterm which makes this class an easy A. there is one small group project, but he gives everyone an A on that. his lectures are so interesting and engaging, he definitely wants everyone to do well in his class
Professor Tafel was amazing and definitely my favorite professor ive had to date. he knows so much about what he teaches and his lectures are always entertaining. there are a good amount of readings but you can get by without reading some of them. He gives questions that will be on quizzes and even the midterm and final in advance. highly recommend
Professor Tafel is hands down my favorite professor at DePaul. hes a generous grader, very knowledgeable on what he teaches, and overall a fantastic lecturer. i looked forward to going to class. TAKE HIM.
Short answer quizzes (but he gives you the questions day before), midterm & final (essays) , and group project. Very knowledgeable about history but he talks a little fast making it hard to copy all the notes. Overall, easy A & hes cute
Michael is the sweetest professor I've ever met! His lectures were so animated, you could really tell that he loves what he does, and that he's very knowledgeable. I always looked forward coming to this class! Papers and quizzes are easy as long as you read and follow along, he also gives you the questions beforehand!
This former ballet/tap dancer really knows how to bring amazing choreography and footwork into his lectures. To say that the Taffy Apple keeps my attention is a severe understatement. Attendance is MANDATORY because if you don't show up, you're doing yourself a massive disservice by depriving yourself of his beautiful words and graceful gestures.
My feelings for this dear Taffy Apple are so strong words cannot do them justice. Simply put, get ready to be inspired. Every class is like a masterful Cirque du Soleil performance, the Taf has his moves down to a science. If a man exists with more rhythm than Stevie Wonder, it's Michael Tafel. Go ahead, take a class from this beautiful man.
He is very knowledgeable and prepares you perfectly to get an A. Definitely take if u need to fufil a history credit
One group presentation, one 7-page final paper, 2 short quizzes, 2 take-home quizzes, a midterm, and a final. I know it sounds like a lot, but believe me, it is okay. The fact that we don't have essays due, except a final paper, is really relieving to me. Don't like writing. Only difficulty? Mid-term and final is too much info, easy to learn tho.
It was Professor Tafels first time teaching Focal Point and he did an amazing job! The subject was the Ancient Mediterranean World and I looked forward to lecture every day. Theres four papers throughout the quarter with diverse topics
Professor Tafels was amazing!!! I recommend taking him he makes the class fun and has so much energy.
I became a History major because of this guy. Best Professor at DePaul hands down.
Tafel is excellent at giving his lectures and with providing information helpful for the midterm and final exams. His study guide is basically what the exam will be about. There is also a group project and a lengthy final paper. Attendance matters, but you can skip a few day, just keep up with the slides. Overall, its an easy class to get an A in.
he is very clear on what he wants you to do. He always tells you what to study for the quizzes, midterms, and finals, which makes it easy to get 100% on exams. Paper and Projects are not too hard, but time-consuming. Good lectures that give you a full understanding of the material. Easy A, if you read and review the slides.
One of the best professors i've ever had.
Tafel was a gem. He did a great job at making history interesting. I would highly recommend talking to him after class because he's super chill. He gives a lot of quizzes, but you can ace everyone one of them if you practice for them before class. There is a research paper due at the end of the quarter about any topic you want.
Great professor, and super accommodating for online school! He makes lectures interesting and is super knowledgable about European History. Readings were long but not that difficult, and assignments were consistent so you knew what to expect. Final paper took some effort but was fairly graded. Would definitely take a class of his again!
Tafel is a really nice guy and a great professor. He makes class enjoyable and gives really good feedback on assignments.
Professor Tafel is by far one of my favorite teachers at DePaul. I took his class Async and although attendance is mandatory, his lectures are super interesting and engaging which made me want to go to class. He does a great job of teaching, and the assignments are pretty easy; he's not a tough grader. Would 100% take him again
Pretty surprised that this professor has low difficulty ratings. I was going to take this class to meet my history requirement and switched out because his workload is very overwhelming for a 112 level class. Nice guy overall but expect a LOT of reading, writing, and homework. Id only recommend him for history majors that enjoy a ton of writing.
Tafel has been one of my favorite professors so far in freshman year. His lectures are extensive, but his presentation skills are engaging and friendly, so that you are interested in what he is discussing. Make sure to participate. It makes class more enjoyable. In general, great guy and easy grader. He gives helpful feedback and transparency.
I hate history but this class was so easy. Lectures were boring but the assignments were really easy. As long as you did them (only like 1-2 a week and mostly short) and followed requirements you will get 100%. No final just a final paper and it wasn't hard, you picked the topic.
Super nice professor, easy grader always gives feedback and as long as you do the work you will do very well
Super enjoyable, one of my favorite classes I've taken. Very very easy material, but very interesting still. Took class online and you needed to show up to the lecture, but you did not need to pay attention at all. Assignments were super easy, and final was only a six page paper. Definitely recommend!
His class is super easy if you just stay on top of the discussions and assigned readings.
TAF is an amazing, brilliant, and exciting professor! His level of knowledge is unprecedented. Taking his class was a fascinating experience. Whether or not you are a history major I highly recommend taking his class
He was great. One textbook required, but he supplies links to find for cheap. A little bit of reading of online PDFs and a couple textbook chapters. He makes the lectures easy to follow and gives you everything you need to write the papers. Three major papers throughout the course which are 2 pages usually and maybe 3 discussion posts. Take him.
Very easy grader and gives a bunch of extensions and is very understanding. His lectures are also interesting, I'm a person who doesn't care much about history at all and I was still interested in his lectures.
A really good teacher and pretty good lectures. For the work load usually it consists of readings, then writing discussion posts each week. Work is very manageable with a good amount of time to complete the work. Also gives good feedback for assignments. Would recommended, easy if do the readings and work well.
This guy is a very knowledgable teacher and his lectures are super enjoyable to listen to. I took the Ancient Mediterranean History class and not only was the content super interesting and informative, but the way he presented it was also great. Would recommend if you like the Roman Empire and history in general.
Prof. Tafel is very passionate about what he teaches, which is evident in lectures. He made history interesting to learn about, and he asked questions during class to keep folks engaged. Very easy grader, if you follow the instructions, you'll get an A. Weekly assignments (discussion posts/quizzes), interesting content. One final paper, 6 pages.
You can tell Prof Tafel really knows what he's talking about and that he loves it too. This class heavily focuses on discussion so he will be asking a lot of questions. The workload is moderate and mostly focuses on discussion boards and essays.
I did not pay attention in class a single time other than answering one question a week for attendance grade. One assignment a week based off reading (which I only read while doing the assignment) and it was either a discussion, quiz, or short paper (1-2 pages). The final paper was 5/6 pages but you got to pick your topic. Easy
Really easy class and professor to take if you want get History credit. Weekly lectures were interesting and assignments were easy as well. Just make sure to put thought into them and you will get an A.
Professor Tafel is knowledgable and passionate about what he teaches. Readings can sometimes be heavy and dense, but you are given a week to complete weekly assignments. Discussion boards are 60-70% of your overall grade. On all assignments including the final paper, he gives well versed feedback. Synchronous class was very well executed.
Professor Tafel's HIST172 class is a breeze if you stay on top of the work. Weekly assignments are easy, and his engaging lectures make the content interesting. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for my study prep.
Professor Tafel is one of my favorite professors at DePaul. I found all of his lectures incredibly interesting. He is fantastic at presenting and it's obvious that he is extremely passionate about the things he teaches. Not too bad of a workload and he would always give extensions. Super nice and cares about his students. Highly highly recommend.
For an online class, he knows how to keeps students engaged so well. He makes it easy to understand and asks good questions to keep students engaged. I knew very little about what was going to be taught in this class, but he explains very well. weekly discussions, about a page about what we learned that week. Give great feedback. Fantastic teacher.
Professor Tafel is extremely passionate about history, sharing that love with his class. He has lots of readings but he provides them for free on D2L. Super clear grading criteria and manageable papers that are easy to complete.
As someone who despises online classes, I really think Dr. Tafel made it tolerable. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. He's a professor who clearly cares what he is teaching about, and he is very nice. Gave me a few extensions when I needed them, and will gladly help you out if you ask. I would happily take another class with him.
I have never met someone as amazing at teaching as Mr. Tafel, I went abroad with him thus having to spend much time with him I truly mean that he is the kindest and most caring person to ever teach me. His class is indeed a bit heavy on reading but it's refreshing to be taught by someone who loves the subject they're talking about, 10/10.
The best Professor to have as an online course, very accessable and clearly has a passion for what he is teaching. His presentations were very engaging and interesting, would definitely have him as a professor again.
