First time teaching, but did well, given his circumstances! Loads of material to cover in the class, and he speeds through it to try and get it all. Lectures come straight from the book, and iclicker questions every other day-ish. Curved all exams, gave EXTENSIVE study guides, and basically told us exactly what was on the exams. STUDY HARD THO.
He is okay. The homework system is not.
CS Major here with little bio experience and still managed to do well given all the tools available. Dr. Treat explained complex topics very well (kidney filtration, plant cycles, etc.) and along with online practice problems + Lab was more than enough to help us. Those that didn't get A's simply did not put in enough time. Take him & study hard!!
Kind of intense class to take during the summer. You will get the grade you deserve and it's easy to see how putting in less work would have a consequential impact. Dr. Treat is pretty funny and good at lecturing. Would take a class of his again.
Treat is a cool guy. He explained things really well and he was pretty funny. He made the topics easy to understand and his exams were fairly easy as long as you studied.
For my first summer course, this class wasn't difficult because of the instructor. Homework almost daily because it is summer but the tests were straightforward and easy.
treat is an amazing professor I totally recommend him. the lectures are a lot but that's just how the class is at least he makes dad jokes. he cares about his students and if you ever need help he will help you not like these other professors. Good person overall tbh, funny guy.
He is a funny guy and made lectures interesting. The lecture video will help you review what you read, but the lectures are long but easy to understand.
The exams are worth 60% of your grade. You have to do really good on the exams to pass the class. Overall, he is not a bad instructor, you really have to study in order to do well on the exams
Tests are 60% of the grade, as well as being too hard (class averages a D on them) and he still doesn't curve them. Took up a lot of my time this semester and was ridiculous in my opinion. He rambles in his lectures and they are lengthy. So many assignments each week, good luck having a life or job outside of school. As a junior, this was hard.
Pretty nice guy. I enjoyed his recorded lectures as he goes into depth on hard concepts. As others said, tests are a pretty big portion of this class but this is a science class. I abhor the online textbook as well as the lab portion of this class. Dense class.
His recorded lectures were very detailed and honestly helped me when studying for exams. He explains complex concepts very well, and includes small jokes to make lectures more enjoyable. This class is definitely lecture heavy and took up a lot of my time, but overall it was manageable with Dr. Treat as my prof.
The professor was amazing, as for the course, biology is difficult and the entire department seems to have the no curve hard exam rules, But Dr treat made it bearable. His video lectures are so much shorter and to the point than professors Ive taken in the past, and he allows time for questions from his students.
I thought that Dr. Treat was a phenomenal professor. Not only were his lecture videos extremely helpful, but he was always available to answer any questions you might have had. The only thing that I did not like was that none of the exams were curved, however, there were 10 EC points you could get that would raise your grade 2%. I highly recommend
Dr. Treat is very nice and his lectures are very helpful. He also replies to emails quickly. I just personally do not like the way the biology department structures these courses. The test are kind of difficult so make sure to study! I would take him over many other biology professors.
I don't get why he has such high ratings. Lectures are literally just him reading off the slides. Tests are based on pure memory and there's no curve at all. 10 EC points at the end but they go into the category that weighs the least. Took forever to grade things. Sometimes used Utz's lecture videos, which were better than his in my opinion.
Prof. Treat was fine, he did not really have an impact on my learning in this course. He made lecture recordings which I did not really watch. There is a lot of homework but that is what I used to study. He is not very helpful in office hours and most times the students know more than he does.
His lectures are recorded so no one has to go to class. Sure he reads off the slides, but I like that because it's that's the same way I learn, so if that's what you like then go for it. The tests are purely based on memorizing the slides and reading the book. I've never gone to office hours so idk what he's like there lol. He responds to emails.
the coolest bio prof I've had. YES, the material is hard, but his lecture videos are brief and much better than Utz in my opinion. go to his OH and just chill. always open to emails for questions. exams are memory-based so you need to study a lot. this guy is great and I would take him again if I could.
His lecture videos are great. Don't miss out on any assignments, he doesn't accept any late works and those can affect your grades by a lot. Uses lockdown browser (video) for exams. STUDY for the exams, go to office hours if you have questions. It's a hard class, if you want to do well in this class then you have to put in the time and work.
Dr. Treat's lectures were very in-depth, humorous occasionally, and always inline with the tests. My only complaint about them is that they were significantly longer than class time in person would've been. Very responsive to email, and sending updates to the class. Slow grading for exams. Class is not is hard as everyone pretends it is.
BIOL191 is a dense class that involves memorizing a lot of material. However, Dr Treat made it easier by being understanding and easy to contact. I once was unable to turn in an assignment on time and I emailed him about it the next day. He replied within the hour and gave me full points. A chill guy overall.
Professor Treat is a pretty funny and chill guy. He didn't overcomplicate things and his lectures were easy to follow through. Though they were a little long, but that's just because biology is a pretty in-depth subject. There were a few assignments due each week, so make sure to stay on top of that.
189 is one of those "weed out" classes so if you don't have prior bio experience, it will be challenging. It is a tougher class but if you just watch his lectures and create a study guide for yourself theres no reason you shouldn't pass. His lectures are great. He just never responds emails so.. good luck with that.
Professor Treat is great! Just be aware that he reads off the slides, so if you don't like that, I don't recommend him. He was able to give amazing examples to help understand the content and cracked a few jokes here and there, making the material less boring. He also grades easily. Although I didn't really attend his OH, I heard he is very chill.
Dr. Treat made the class quite easy for me. As long as you do pre-lecture assignments(homeworks) you are good to go. Going to the lectures was nice, but not mandatory. He gives extra credit for participation and sometimes for easy quizzes. Exams are straight-forward and all from power points. He words exams nicely as well. Easy to get a B at least!
His personality make up for his lack of teaching skills. Nice and hilarious but read off word by word from the slides. I come to his class not to learn but to just absorb the good energy. This class is relatively easy to self teach since it is memorization. The textbook is more helpful than his lectures but that is ok. I would take his class again.
Dr. Treat is a great! I learned a lot throughout his class. I liked his jokes as well. This class is a "weeder" class. Be prepared to put in the work if you want to get an A. There is a lot of material. I'm in my last year at UNLV and this was the hardest class I have take so far because of the amount of work it takes to get an A.
Dr. Treat made learning biology a lot of fun this semester and I enjoyed his lectures! I managed to get an A in this class, but only by spending a lot of hours studying outside of class for his exams. On that note, his exams were pretty straightforward and came from both the textbook and the slides. It's a hard class if you don't work for it.
Professor Treat was not a helpful professor. I started college in the wrong foot for personal reasons. And despite missing the first few weeks of school. I asked for help but the professor was rushing and seemed like he didn't want to help at all. It felt that he was looking 'down' upon a student. Unlike other professor, that are considerate.
Dr. Treat is quite funny and made learning biology fairly entertaining at times. He mainly reads off of the lecture slides, but they are very informative. Also, the exams are not terrible if you study. Overall, I think he is a solid choice.
He thinks he is funny and to make him feel better and for him to like your class I guess you need to laugh at his jokes. As long as you study and are a good test taker than you will pass!
Mid. He made Bio less strict and scary but still pretty hard, to be honest. Good guy overall. His personality makes up for the long lectures.
Great professor that gives good lectures and always answers questions. Very straight forward class: complete everything and you will pass. Very notes heavy and a lot of content, but definitely doable if you set aside time to complete work and study.
Professor Treat seemed like he did not care whatsoever. Tests were incredibly hard and he provided no help as to what they would be. Last week before exams he canceled both classes and the test review. He just seemed like he didn't want to be there. He was not helpful. I had classmates that tried to contact him and he never replied.
Although this class was hard for me due to the fact that I'm not the best at bio, Dr.Treat was really nice and would always be available for questions before/after class. He's a bit slow on emails but if you contact him in person he'll make an effort. He does read off of slides but integrates humor in his lectures, overall I'd take him again.
Professor Treat is pretty fun. He makes jokes in lecture, so at least he tried to make it durable. He does go through lecture fast but thats because there SO MUCH content to be covered in such little time. Read the textbook, take notes, and make sure you understand. Ask him questions after lecture. You need to set a of time aside for this course.
He basically just read through the Powerpoints with barely any additional information. It's a good idea to attend all lectures because he often does In Class Participation. Super straight forward grading criteria.
Dr. Treat's class is straightforward. His lectures are intense sometimes, but he's funny, and explains the material very well. His office hours are also super helpful, if you need extra help outside of lecture.
Mr. Treat is a nice guy and I like that he gives extra credit in class especially since this class is hard as heck! The class is terrible but he seems nice so it's more so the class than him as a teacher. He did talk really fast and wasted some brain space by telling us things and saying we did not need to remember them. Take him if you want.
Dr. Treat is a great biology professor. His lectures are full of information, so prepare to study a lot. Dr. Treat tries to make his students feel comfortable in class by telling a few jokes during lectures, which I respect. His office hours are beneficial as well! Get ready to read a lot and review many notes. He genuinely wants you to do well.
Biology was difficult for me, it is very time-consuming and you need to learn a lot of concepts. The assignments are based on pre-lectures, post-lectures, and several exams. He is honestly a great professor! you also have to take biology lab which is its own separate class and is graded differently for both.
The class is pretty straight forward, the lectures felt pretty pointless, but it is required to go because of the in class assignments. Overall, it felt like he did not care much. I emailed him about an assignment that was put in as missing even though I turned it in, and he just never responded, or made an attempt to resolve the issue.
Cool dude. I never emailed him for inquiries, I would just approach him a few minutes before or after class. I would recommend that over emailing. 100% success rate. Content heavy, less conceptual. If you have bad studying habits, now is the time to get it together and develop proper study strategies (pomodoro, active recall). Goblin mode no!!!!
Dr. Treat is a pretty good professor. His lectures are filled with a lot of content, but he makes a couple of jokes here and there. The exams are straightforward. As long as you take the time to read the textbook, look over the PowerPoints, and practice with the pre-lecture recharges, you can pass.
Professor Treat is a great lecturer. He is very knowledgable in his field and presents the material with a sense of humor. Expect to work hard if you want a good grade.
Treat was honestly a great professor. He knows the material he goes over, and his personality helps the lectures go by fast. You need to take some time outside to get the material down. There are pre and post quizzes for each chapter we went over, 3 exams, and 1 cumulative final.
Most of the your grade depends on 3 exams and a final exam. This professor is funny and very understanding. He really doesn't care about attendance but there are extra credit participation assignments he randomly gives out in class if you go.
He is a young professor who tries to see the world through the students perspective. Dr. Treat does go a little fast but that's because they dont give him enough time to teach. Randomly will take attendance so go to class.
To be honest, nothing special about Dr. Treat. He was there to do his job, taught the lecture, and gave us enough resources to succeed. However, if you want to succeed in this class it is completely dependent on you to learn how to study for this class and to do well on the test because they really determine your grade in the class.
Easy if you study consistently outside of class. Attendance isn't mandatory because he only reads off slides that get posted to WebCampus. Gives participation points in class occasionally. Sometimes tells you what to focus on for exams. Homework isn't too difficult. Go to SI for extra help. Tests are usually 50 questions and cover 4 chapters each.
For the most part, I enjoyed Dr. Treat's class. He does like to read off of his slides, but will often add his own input which makes it better. All 4 of the exams are strictly based off of what he goes over in the lectures which makes things easier. Very funny professor as well. Would recommend!
Was one of the best professors I've had at UNLV. Be ready to put the time in though, as his classes are full of material. The exams are related directly to his lectures, so make sure to follow along! Although attendance isn't mandatory, coming to and participating in lectures is truly the best way to ensure a passing grade.
Dr. Treat has charisma and is a straight forward guy. Lectures are not mandatory and the slides are posted to canvas but he does have at least one participation assignment each unit, usually announces when. Exams are based on lecture slides but mcgraw helps as supplementary instruction.
Overall a nice professors, but most lectures felt extremely rushed so take notes beforehand. I felt as though I didn't retain much information during the lectures but he is very willing to help students.
you could not torture me into taking this class again
This science class was manageable. If you want to do well on his exams, do the lecture learning objectives from his lecture slides, they are life savers when it comes to studying the correct things. His lectures were pretty boring since he just read off the slides, but I would show up because he offered random extra credit throughout the semester.
If you are a student that needs DRC accommodations and finds yourself constantly in need of communication because of said accommodations, then do not take this course with Dr. Treat. Genuinely, a great teacher and has great attention-keeping lectures and goes in depth with material. Not very good with communicative things outside of that.
Reads directly off slides. Moves fast so you have no time to take notes and actually learn what he's talking about. Says attendance is not mandatory but then puts attendance grades that were very point heavy at the end of semester, show up to class. Your whole grade pretty much is determined by 3 exams and the final. Wouldn't recommend
I got an A in the class but only because of my own due diligence, taught myself everything. He goes through the lecture like he's sonic and would sometimes ignore students who raise their hands. He was such a bad professor I literally get a pang of anxiety when I see him in SEB. I'd rather switch my major than ever have him as a professor again.
One of my favorite professors this semester. Although he cancelled class before an exam, he made sure we were able to get the support we needed via zoom. Offered some review sessions as well. Very knowledgeable and offers in depth explanations of the content being covered. Definitely recommend!
Genuinely liked this class a lot! Attendance isn't mandatory but he does go over the LO's after every section that are used for exam questions & has review sessions before exams which really help! Gave clear and understandable lectures that made retaining the vast amount of information easier. 10/10 would recommend :)
I initially heavily disliked Treat and blamed my poor grades on him. Throughout the semester I realized the class is just a lot and it isn't really his fault. He's a chill guy and does what he can to help us. This class itself is VERY hard in my opinion, you have to keep up with every assignment and spend hours studying or you will likely fail.
Professor Treat at UNLV is tough but fair. His lectures are essential to doing well, and skipping them will hurt your grade. The class is demanding, especially for students from CCSD, but if you're willing to put in the effort, you'll see great results. It's not a chill class. Don't expect to watch skibidi toilet all day and do well on the exams.
Dr. Treat's lectures are entertaining, but he tends to rush his lecture if it's almost done and class is about to end. I don't recommend missing lectures because it's a lot of information to take in unless you want to self-teach all the way. Putting in effort to study his lecture slides will ensure you a good grade. Homework is based on textbook.
BIO189 with Dr.Treat isn't easy. Lecture slides are easy to understand although during class, he goes through them at a really fast pace. He posts the lecture slides on canvas if students ever need to go over them to either take notes or study. Isn't a bad professor at all! Just a really difficult class to take.
TAKE HIM! This class showed me I never learned how to study in high school, after the first exam I went to office hours and he gave us great study tips and guidance! In addition to in class instruction he has reviews online on his free time to help prep for exams. BONUS he gave us candy for exams to show us sugar can give us energy, he is awesome!
Class honestly isn't too hard just take notes from the textbook (free online) and go to lectures. Dr. Treat often gives a ton of extra information during lectures but always goes over everything really well. Pay attention to the learning objectives for tests. Super chill guy- would always pass out candy before exams
This was the easiest class I've ever taken. Its introductory biology that you've probably seen in high school. Honestly if you just go to SI meetings it's super easy to pass. He basically tells you what's on the exams. He does teach off of slides but I see that as a plus because all the material is right there. I recommend it 100%.
Dr. Treats class was hard but fair. He expects you to pay attention to lectures and study outside of class time. I don't get why people hate on him so much, he tries his best. If you think you're gonna get by his class doing the bare minimum it's probably not gonna happen. Study and review the learning outcomes and the exam blueprints you'll pass.
Study. Years in advance preferably. Just fkng study. Basically the entire grade is based on exams. Exam questions are not what you study, so study even more than you need. The professor isn't bad but the material is. He gives extra credit and good feedback but he doesn't seem like the type to round up your grade.
He does not respond to emails, he will tell you that on the first day of school unless he believes its something critical then he will answer. He just has slides and goes through it during his lectures, he does explain things pretty good. Slides are pretty self-explanatory.
Class is very straightforward, since it is a large class make sure you go to office hours and stay on top of all the small point assignments, they add up and they can make or break your grade. The exams are based on the power points and lectures which the professor gives extra details when reviewing material so make sure you attend class!
I needed this class for credit, but overall professor Treat was very understanding and helpful. His lectures contained most of the answers from his exams. His office hours make him very available, I would recommend taking this course.
The only problem with him is that he does not respond to emails which is frustrating, especially when you have concern about your grades. But overall, instructor treat is a good instructor.
Dr.Treat was an okay teacher. He reads off the slides and takes a long time to get through them. You may or may not get behind. He was very funny and has a good sence of humor. He also gives participation points for just showing up.
Great guy and clearly cares for his students success. Gave so many extra credit opportunities and free points. Would adjust lectures as we went to ensure our success and understanding. Made us extra practice tests which always helped so much! Go to the lectures take good notes and you are GOLDEN! He does struggle with pacing during lectures.
He's a good professor imo, provides extra materials if you ask, multiple extra credit assignments, etc. He makes the lecture fun to listen to with his jokes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does provide more info than on his slides + participation points. If you attend SI, office hours, and class regularly, you'll do just fine :D
when he says he reads the slide word for word, he literally means it and adds on his explanation. due to this, the lecture can feel very slow but as long as you go home and understand the concept via yt vids or pre-lectures, u'll be fine! he does give extra cred opportunities + participation points near the week of tests/exams. def take him!!!
Dr Treat funny as hell, he does read a lot of the things off his slides but he explains the concepts when he does. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he will occasionally give out a participation assignment which can absolutely ruin your grade at the end of the semester if you're not there. Overall, just study the slides and you'll be fine for exams
Dr. Treat gives outstanding lectures and does a good job of explaining complex material. Very clear about grading and important material. Lots of extra credit opportunities and an easy weekly workload.
Dr Treat is GOATED 🐐
Dr. Treat is a great professor imo. He makes the information easy to understand and tells you what you need to know for the exams. Just go to class and study the slides and you'll get a good grade
If you attend his lectures, he'll crack a joke or two. His lectures are exactly like the slides but he provides extra info and explanation which is helpful + sometimes he'll point out important stuff to know for the exam which you'd miss out on if you didn't attend the lecture. Just make sure to review the slides and and pre-lectures & youre fine
I went from failing the first exam to getting an A on the final. His exams are based off of the LEARNING OUTCOMES on his slides!!! If you study these, you should be good to go. He is pretty funny, but he does not answer emails at all.
Dr. Treat is a good professor! attendance wasn't mandatory, but most of the time he would give extra advice/ study tips for the exam. he does a lot of extra credit opportunities and even rounded up my final grade. he's very friendly and cracks jokes in class. his exams weren't too difficult as long as you'd study maybe a 1-2 weeks in advance.
