Changes writing topic every class meeting
Do a good job and he still won't give you an A
Worst english teacher I have ever had. Not willing to help you, very unclear.
what a point less class...
Don't learn anything; could get more dumb from just being in his class. Nice guy
I wish he would give A's
very boring and dull, nice wierd guy
werid but nice, the work is straightfoward, should pass class
uses hands when he speaks and it becomes annoying.changes his mind about assign.
very strange, spills coffee on the desk, dresses like shakespear, cool though

didnt need class, waste of sem. passed,

really hard grader. Does not give out any A's. He is a really nice guy, and great semse of humor. Be ready to write a lot of papers
Strange clothing but a very nice guy. The class was interesting
Dude, this teacher does not clairify anything he is saying. He uses way too many big words that don't makes sense to common people like you and me!
He spends a lot of time trying to discuss pieces that you're reading, but doesn't actually explain anything. Somewhat confusing teacher. Can be somewhat annoying and stuck up.
OK this guy is really nice. but IT IS SUPER hard to get an A but rather easy to get a B or C. SO if you are happy with B's and C's then you're in luck.
This guy thinks he's funny, and he so isn't. Has no idea how to teach so he rambles on about nothing. Sad excuse for an instructor.
He rambles on and on about nothing that is relevant to the homework assignments. You ask him a question to clarify, and all he does it make it more confusing...he is so unorganized..he plans the lessons when he gets to class, which is always 10 mins late
He is so boring!!! he loses the classes attention after about 15 minutes and doesn't even realize it, he's so occupied with what he's saying.
Very hard grader, no class structure, and there was no writing in a freaking writing class
Underwood is a cool guy. The only thing that bugged me about him was that it took him forever to hand anything back to us. We didn't do as much writing as I thought we would (not that I'm complaining)
This teacher stresses quality over quantity. I reccomend his style for those who appreciate a slow pace. Understanding and approachable
Avoid taking this class at all costs. Basically all he teaches is how to do well on the WPA, but it's pointless because if you're in the class you obviously failed it. Writing projects due every other week or so, and they are pointless. Class has no structure to it either.
Lots of work and although he seems like he'll grade hard at first most students got passing grades. Lots of reading unfortunately. Likes to ramble on and rarely get out of class early.
I dont know what hell most of these people are talking about, he's the first english teacher I've had who actually cares about what he's doing. He makes going to class enjoyable. There's not too much work and he's a pretty easy grader.
Horrible professor. Comes off as being an intelligent, in-depth, organized thinker but hardly reflects when he evaluates your work. Told our class that the average student gets Cs and that he has only given one A in all his years teching. I got an A on every paper and still got a B+! Totally out of his mind and obessed with LOTR nerd material.
I took this class 3 years ago and he is still telling his classes that sad story of him only giving one A ever and that C is the average student grade, so we should all expect them (True story, by the way). Avoid him at all cost.
Worse Prof I've ever had. A few papers, unclear on due dates. Doesn't return back soon. Lectures are rambles doesn't let out early. If you must take, take C/NC. Lots of reading, pop quizzes.
took it credit/no credit, easier than rws 100 & 200. he seems cool enough, he understands that you HAVE to take the class and it took minimal effort to get credit if you just show that you tried a little.
Take the class. It's challenging but reasonable. The work is doable – not overwhelming. The knowledge is applicable to building solid communication skills! It engages critical thinking, not busy work. Prof has valuable insights & humor. Easy A, just “write to the prompt.” Follow the instructions like MapQuest directions w/o opinions.
I have a theory that Prof. Underwood wrote one of the comments below mine. I am suposed to be writing a rough draft and turning it in this morning but I am still unclear as to what I should be writing about. This class is "bushit bushit bushit"-Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Tedious, hard and you will regret every minute of it. DROP THE CLASS!!!! ASAP
prof. underwood is a really nice guy, but his class is just really difficult and boring to the max. prompts were really unclear and revolved around ONE subject for all 4 essays. definitely have to say that if writing is not your thing you might want to crash with a different professor for sure!
The vest he wore were cool. At first class was slow and so it seemed to be easy but after that the realization hit that his expectations were way to high. If you don't plan on being an English major I would try another prof. Expect low grades unless you are a superb writer.
Underwood isn't very clear on what is due or when, but he's pretty flexible about turning stuff in late. You use the reader for all of the assignments so definitely buy it, you also use Keys for Writers during peer revisions. Papers aren't too hard and actually somewhat useful. He's liberal and sarcastic so if you share those views you'll do better
Doable, but tough. Like everyone else mentions he is a hard grader. Mediocre amount of work. I wasn't a fan of his sarcasm, but he seems like a nice guy once you got to know him.
Doable, but tough. Like everyone else mentions he is a hard grader. Mediocre amount of work. I wasn't a fan of his sarcasm, but he seems like a nice guy once you got to know him.
If you don't write a paper exactly how he would have written it then you're grade will suffer. He has a set idea of what a good essay is and if you don't follow that template then you are a crap writer. Don't get me wrong he's a nice guy, but he's a tough grader.
Professor Underwood seems like a difficult grader at first, but if you go in and talk to him, he is very helpful. Just go in and talk to him, and have him read your rough drafts and he tells you exactly what he wants you to fix for the final draft. Very helpful
The content is very interesting. Read the assignments he gives you, and take notes. Even though you don't have that much homework/quizzes, the notes you take will be very helpful for you with the essays. Go in to his office hours!! You may be disappointed with your first essay score, but take his comments to heart and fix them.
Gives you points for attendance and participation, so go to every class and speak up a couple times you will be fine. Not many points possible, so take the few homework assignments you get seriously and do them right. You do have a final exam, but don't trip about it. Go to class, pay attention, take notes, speak up. A very nice professor.
friends dont let friends take underwood. just dont.
Easy class. 3 main papers, and a few easy 2 pagers. Do the short reading because he'll quiz u on it or make u write the 2 page papers on it. As for the 3 big papers, pretty easy, half what u read and half bsing it. I did them all 3 the night before and still passed all 3 papers. He can be confusing but is very willing to help if u ask.
Nice guy but boring lectures...i liked him, getting to know him def helps. Go to his office hours. Papers werent too bad, only three. He allows 3 absences but is pretty lenient with that
Boring lectures, he drags them on for no reason. He's not helpful at all, and there are barely any points. He expects you to write at a graduate level and told my class that his graduate students even said his prompts are too hard. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST!!
The people who say he isn't easy or fair obviously don't utilize his office hours. He is extremely helpful if you go in to get his input on your draft before the essays are due, and tells you EXACTLY what to fix to get an A. Bottom line: the class will be easy if you make appointments with him to go over your draft, and it will be hard if you dont
Underwood is a good guy. He's always in a good mood and that helps. He's always setting up meetings to try to help you with the papers, but the only downside is that he's a bit of a nerd. Be prepared for star wars and star trek like things.
I thought he was an excellent teacher. He incorporated Star Wars, LOTR, Star Trek, and Fairytales to help us develop our own concept of good and evil. He is always available for help, and he spends MOST class time throughout the semester talking about what exactly he wants in our next paper and discussions. Just make sure you take LOTS OF NOTES.
underwood is a nice guy. however, his prompts are confusing and difficult. i always dreaded going to his class (and so did everyone i talked to). he rly tries to challenge people, which is great, but he grades too harshly. i am positive i would have gotten a better grade in another RWS class. one positive is he always makes time for appointments!
Underwood is really interesting and tries to make the class fun and interesting. If I was ever unsure about the writing prompt, he would clarify any confusion. Also, he hints about exactly what he wants in your paper. Listen to him.
Underwood didn't show up for our first 2 classes then made a point to make us all attend. His classes were boring and didn't even follow a pattern. One of our assignments was resume work and Career Services helped me more than he did.
He is not very clear on essay prompts or anything for that matter, he leaves room for 'creativity'. Also, it's a decent amount of reading. However, this is the first class I have taken that I left genuinely feeling like I have expanded my knowledge and feel proud of the essays I have written. I recommend it for those who actually seek education.
Underwood is cool, but he is definitely a tough teacher. He's good at respecting everyone's beliefs, and he loves new ideas. If you show him you're working hard, he'll go out of his way to help you. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. His class is good for those who want to learn and be challenged, not for those who are looking for an easy A.
I took this class during the summer. We had to write three essays, if you follow his prompt you will get good grades. I received two A's and one B. If you are confused just ask him, he is more then willing to help. He also will critique your drafts, but only if you ask him. He is very easy going and not strict at all. Do your work and you will pass
Professor Underwood is really nice and wanting to help out. The class itself isn't that hard, but the essays are where your grade really comes from. He grades papers how they should be graded. He really focuses on MLA format. As long as you follow the prompt and have the correct page setup, you should be fine. (:
Professor Underwood loves what he does. He is not there to give out A's, instead he wants to challenge you and allow you to improve your writing skills. Always ask him to check your drafts and you will be fine. What he grades the most is the analysis in your papers. He is very laid back and likes to crack jokes once in a while.
This was by far my hardest class. He is not clear on any assignments and takes forever to hand back papers. i would avoid taking him if possible. I always dreaded going to his class.
Challenging yet rewarding class. It will be tough, even if you are a naturally great writer. Makes you think critically. Go to his and your RWS Fellow's office hours to significantly improve quality of your paper. Definitely made my paper grades better. BS your papers? Dont recommend this class. A's are not easy to earn, you gotta work for it.
He is very unclear with the purpose of our work. Very hard grader on your papers and is really unorganized. Apparently obsessed with border collies?
Underwood is a good professor, likes to talk, laughs at own jokes, rambles a little. Overall this class was pretty easy, all we had to do was write papers based on the text we read. Make you go see the RWS fellow helps a lot with the paper and your grade.
Underwood is a great professor. As long as you pay attention, participate, and go to help hours and actually listen to what he wants you to revise, you will be fine. If you do bad on one paper, don't expect that to be your final grade. I got a C on the first one and As on all the rest and I ended with an A. Would recommend. No tests, no final.
BEST PROFESSOR HELPS ALOT!!!! TAKE HIM!!!!!
He is a tough grader but will help you if you go to office hours and show that you are working hard. I thought I was a good writer but got a C on my first paper. this class is hard and the in class work is monotonous but my writing has really improved. He seems abrupt and scary at first but is nice during office hours and once he gets to know you.
Very reasonable grader as long as you actually attend lectures. Doesn't answer phones or emails but he does make appointments to talk about papers before the final draft, just hope you don't have a question in between then.
This class was really monotonous! Some of the papers were difficult to get started but after the office hours, they got better. It was an overall okay class, but my least favorite of the semester.
Probably the most boring class on my schedule this semester. 4 essays total, last one is the "final". No quizzes. He seemed to follow this pattern of discussing the texts one week than the next week he would make us get in groups and share in front of class our section of the reading (Groups were a joke). Very tough grader. Try not to take if u can
Underwood is a cool guy and a good teacher. He is pretty clear on what he expects but also leaves the papers very open to what you want to do with them. He grades hard though. The papers are not too long and the work load is very manageable. He has a lot of good class discussions which I really enjoyed.
Underwood gets a bad rep but I loved him as a professor! Everyday he wears a Hawaiian shirt and he has that laugh that makes jokes 10x funnier! He's the usual type of professor when it comes to grading, how much effort you put in will reflect on your grade
Underwood is a cool guy and the class isn't terrible. He grades hard on the papers and the prompts are open ended but he meets with you before every paper which helps a lot. If you try hard he recognizes that. My writing improved a lot in his class. He also likes to have discussions during lecture and he likes people who speak in class.
He is a very nice professors but his in class work was pointless. It was all busy work and you have to attend. He grades essays kind of hard but if you go to his office hours he gives good feedback and is clear on what he is looking for.
Mr. Underwood's class was quite boring, there's no tests and the only homework you ever have is the essays but when that comes around, they're a lot of work. Besides that, that's all there is to the class. He grades the essay kinda tough but if you put in effort and come to his office hours, he'll acknowledge it in your grade.
So first off he did not show up the first two weeks of school, no warning or anything. He does not post grades on blackboard so you won't really know until the end of the semester. You get previous essays back a few days before the next one is due. He is also a hard grader on the essays and gives little feedback.
He is a great professor for RWS-101!
Underwood is a sweetheart who genuinely wants you to succeed. Actively opens the floor for questions, and takes what you tell him is difficult to heart in lessons and explanations. My class was three essays with a few reading quizzes sprinkled in. Doesn't use Blackboard, but answers questions about grades. A major help in my first year.
Great professor. Attending class is important because he goes over the material and outlines the essays and gives all the instructions in class- rarely posts anything online. Only 3 essays and some easy in class work. He is super specific and very helpful on the essays. Your allowed to skip 3 classes sometimes more without him taking points away.
very hard grader, and half the time his fellow will grade instead of him, so there are discrepancies in grades between person to person. Never updates blackboard so you don't know your grade until after the class is over. On the positive side, he does only have 3 essays for the whole year, only 5 pages each.
Underwood is a really great teacher but he's a really tough grader. Since the class is based on 3 essays, you have to do well on all of them and each one requires a lot of work. Classes were long and boring, but attendance is important because of random in-class assignments. The credit from in-class assignments help since there's only 3 essays.
After taking his class, Underwood was a good teacher, but a hard grader. The class is based on 3 essays, 3 quizzes (based on readings), and attendance. The quizzes were easy as long as you understand the readings. And the essays weren't difficult it if you go to his office hours (I highly recommend). I'm not proficient in English but I managed.
He is a really hard grader and if writing isn't your strong suit, like me, it's hard to do well. He cancels a week of classes before each paper is due for conferences which if you come prepared to may be helpful.
He was sick a lot which meant class was often cancelled, which resulted in not a lot of explanation of assignments. I found the assignments and prompts to be vague and was often confused as to what I should be doing in my papers. He isn't an easy grader.
very hard grader, also very vague and doesn't help much in what he wants in papers. Because of the fact that he never showed up it was hard to write something and know what he wanted.
I loved this professor! He is definitely a tough grader however, you really learn a lot if you actually read and participate in discussions. My writing skills improved so much from this professor. I think the reason that I did well was because I always went to the office hours and asked a million questions. Great class!
Get ready to ready and be ready to fully understand an article on your own, there's quizzes on the readings. The readings are easy but make sure you read the assigned homework. Only 3 papers, 5 pages each. Underwood is a tough grader but make sure you go to his office hours and get feedback on your paper before turning it in.
Did not like his class at all. Makes students buy a $30 book of articles that he puts together (just look the articles up online). Only 3 papers throughout the semester each 5 pages but he never posts grades. The papers are also graded so hard that it's like impossible to get an A.
Honestly class wasn't that bad, you just have to put in a little effort if you want a good grade. He's not a bad teacher, and he was really helpful during conferences. Class is kinda boring since it was an 8am but he tries to make it more enjoyable at least.
Everyone who says they didn't like his class is either impatient/ chose to write the paper the night before. loves philosophy / authors like Tolkien. Classes will mostly consist of group discussion. Hes like the nerdy grandpa u never had, very old school, doesn't use Blackboard or any tech in class. Be patient w him and DO NOT PROCRASTINATE PAPER
Honestly Prof. Underwood is by far one of my favorite professors so far. Even though the class is very lenient on work load, he does grade really rough. During my semester, he did give people C's for simply having written some sort of analysis on the writing so he is chill too. A lot of reading but he does guide you in lecture so don't ditch.
Underwood is easily the most boring person I have ever met. His RWS is nothing comparable to the other classes. You will read books, philosophical works, and random stuff just to write papers on deep thoughts that make no sense. He will never let you out early, even if there is nothing to be done. Good luck getting above a 80, impossible.
He is a great teacher. I've learned a lot in his class and so far have found he doesn't grade very hard (contrary to popular belief). I got a 95% on an essay I wrote the morning of and he spaces them out for you very nicely. Great guy and cares about his students. I recommend.
Professor Underwood is pretty laid back and will tell you exactly how to fix your rough draft when you go in for conferences. My main complaint is that he never posted grades on blackboard so except for essays there were never any grades given for individual assignments.
Mr. Underwood was a great professor! He didn't grade too harshly and gave many opportunities to have him or peers review your paper. If you apply the prompt correctly you'll most likely get an A! During lectures he holds interesting discussions about materials relevant to the next writing prompt! The whole class is 4 papers and participation points
The grade you receive for this class heavily relies on what grades you get on the essays throughout the semester. There is little other class work that is graded. The essay prompts are a bit vague which makes them confusing because Underwood wants students to find deeper meaning in their writing. He is a tough grader. Make use of the writing fellow
A bit confusing. My classmates and I would really help each other out because of how unclear he was most of the time with assignments. Make use of the writing fellow and don't be afraid to ask questions. He gets back to you pretty fast.
Writing essays used to be really hard, but after I took Underwood it just clicked for me. He is the BEST writing professor! I know people think he's a harsh grader, but all it takes is understanding the prompts he gives you. The criteria is very clearly stated and you get to understand what he expects if you go to the lectures, so don't miss those.
This class is very disorganized, the calendar of when assignments are due was always changing. I met with the writing fellow on the 2 essays we did which helped a bit but this class is mostly you showcasing your writing rather than learning how to write. If you took AP Lit in high school, this class will be easier for you.
Uncommunicative and not understanding. You must agree with him or he will not like you. Gives you stink eye on campus. Failed my friend with no explanation or response.
Kind of pretentious. Barely had any lectures, which can be good or bad depending on what you want. Super vague and un-descriptive when giving feedback on papers. Grades really tough. Super unorganized. Assignments are always filled with mistakes. He even accidentally deleted one of our assignments and made us redo them.
I had Professor Underwood for both semesters this year and he has been a great professor overall. He provides you with all the information you need to know in his lectures. He gives students plenty of time to work on their papers. If you understand the prompts, you'll most likely pass the class with an A. I definitely recommend him.
Professor Underwood is one of the best. He truly cares for his students and wants them all to succeed. He is very genuine and understanding. His class is mainly a few large papers sprinkled in with some discussion question assignments. He is one of the best professors for RWS. I highly recommend him to any student looking to take the class.
My experience was NOT the best and it sucked that this class was at 8am. He grades his papers SO hard and its very difficult to recieve an A on papers. He's kind of vague in instruction and feedback and wants you to be VERY thorough. My class was "hero" based so the papers were based on that. Follow the schedule because he doesn't announce dates.
Mr. Underwood came off as a hard grader after the first paper. But he barely gives any work and when you have to write papers, he gives many opportunities to meet with him in person in order to get advice from him which is really helpful. We did read a book in this class and the entire class is based off heroes. But I really liked this class.
No homework in the class which is nice, it is mainly just based off of the 3 big essays over the semester. He is a tough grader but if you meet with him outside of class, use that feedback and you will get an A.
I could easily give Prof Underwood a 5 or a 1 star rating. He is a very hard grader, but gives many opportunities outside of class to improve papers. He can be harsh and serious most of the time, but he is a great professor and made rhetoric click for me. It will take effort to get a good grade, but in the end you will learn a lot from him.
Professor Underwood's class overall was just okay. His prompts were not very specific, nor was feedback in office hours. Our writing fellow was more helpful than he was. He made us purchase one of our readings in the bookstore. It was a bunch of pages stapled together for $25 and then he ended up posting it on canvas because people did not buy it.
Professor Underwood is honestly the best English teacher I've ever had. He gives you many opportunities to improve your papers and will extend the due dates. I became a much better writer thanks to him. Attendance is not mandatory but you get extra points because of in class assignments and he explains the readings very well. Sad to say bye.
I did not learn much in this class. He had slide show presentations he would present and he would just read right off of them. There are 3 back-to-back essays, and the prompt for all of them is vague and confusing. Very boring class and I do not recommend taking it.
truly such a good teacher who cares about his students. class consists of 3 papers, and you're given a little over a month for each one. No class during paper writing times, and he is always willing to meet up with him to get feedback. Grades difficult, but if you ask questions and are involved in group discussions it should be too hard.
overall decent professor. Grade is made up mostly of 3 essays, not super hard to write but he is a tough grader. Classes are pretty boring, usually consisted of group work. Canvas was also super unorganized.
I had so much work for this class. At one point we were writing a huge essay at the same time as reading a 400 page book that we had quizzes on. I spent hours on homework for this class and still did not get a good grade. I reccommend finding another professor.
Not the worst professor, but his class is definitely boring and the group work he assigns is very meticulous. He takes forever to grade but I don't think he's a tough grader. If you somewhat try in the class you should be fine. I did not really care about the class and typically got a high B on the papers.
Is a harsh grader and for some reason, he tries to 'encourage' you to write essays better because he has "never graded an A paper". He uses the whiteboard and his handwriting is difficult to read. He sets up conferences for him to review your essay and 'help improve/what you are missing'. However, when you turn in the paper you will get a C or a B.
Dr. Underwear? Are you there? What's the zoom link for the makeout session? Thank you.
His class is a little difficult because you have to keep up with the readings, and he has quizzes on them, but it is very doable and he gives great feedback and walks you through an entire process which is helpful!
Prompts are vague, and his evidence and instruction are unclear.
He is an alright teacher. He can be wholesome and funny at times. He doesn't give a clear expectation for what he is looking for in his papers.
Really only had him because I signed up late. He isn't the worst but his lectures are awfully boring and completely useless. The class is carried by a student who doesn't stop talking and cracks jokes like prime Adam Sandler. 3 essays all pretty easy if you try I got a 92 and a 85 on the first two with the third to be determined.
I had him for my first year taking RWS 100, he is extremely nice. We ended up doing 3 papers total, in which we had to personally meet with him so we knew exactly what he wanted in the paper. He is really funny, but is constantly sick, and his lectures are a little boring but the course overall was really easy. Definitely recommend him for RWS 100!
Honestly chill, 3 papers, but the grading policy is a bit much, gives you a C if you just a summary of what he's looking for on every paper, B if you add more, and an A which is hard, for when present a paper that would be published by the new york times. suggest meeting with him during conferences, never went myself because bro was always sick.
lots of homework compared to other teachers who teach this course, he is not a bad teacher and even his class was not bad but he is a harsh grader and his essay prompts are difficult
This class was extremely disorganized and most topics for the essay's were painful to read. Prof. Underwood was cool but did engage the class in the slightest. If you took AP Lit you will most likely do alright but I would also choose a dif teacher if given the chance to do the class over again.
classes are useful but not engaging in the slightest. he assigns many reading assignments that are basically just busywork and aren't very helpful. he is helpful when essays are assigned through his conference dates, but the rubric isn't very clear and he is pretty tough when grading them. would suggest selecting a different professor for RWS-200.
Attendance wasn't mandatory, but we had a discussion every single class that would be 10pts, and they do stack up, so show up. Essay topics were so disorganized, and the class wasn't engaging in the slightest since they were all useless group discussions, which were annoying since we did that every class. Would honestly recommend avoiding
Prof. Underwood was a wonderful professor to have for RWS100. To me the prompts that were given to write essays were not too difficult. Although he is a tough grader, I understood his class well and learned a lot about rhetoric.
Almost IMPOSSIBLE to get an A in his class or essay, he always changes the prompt towards what he looks for in an essay which makes it difficult since we do one thing then he asks for another. He does not really interact with students and RWS 100 was so hard with him comparing it to RWS 200. Avoid him if you can.
Professor Underwood's class can be hit or miss, but with a little effort, you'll do well. The essays are manageable, and Unstuck AI's writing tools are super helpful for nailing the prompts.
In all honesty, probably the worst teacher I have ever had. Very unclear in what he wanted us to write about. Extremely complex essay prompts that honestly made no sense half the time. There is no reason to take him as a teacher, literally choose any other teacher.
Honestly, I dropped his class within a week because of how boring it was. It was so hard to pay attention and half the time the class was dead silent and would barely talk. He assigned so much homework just within the first week that I just dropped the class because he was doing too much.
scored really high on the essays and still failed, retaking this class with a different professor right now. Other people I talked to in this class also failed, I think the grade mainly comes down to attendance so try not to miss any days
Way too much homework. Expected us to work through spring break. Took a long time/sometimes wouldn't respond to emails. SLOW to grade assignments: if the homework is wrong you won't know until you've done many assignments the same way. Inconsistent assignment posts. Hard readings. Monotone voice. Lots of group work, missed class means a 0/10.
He has us a read different articles every week and we answer questions in class each day unless you're going over previous essays. Attendance is mandatory and if you aren't in class to do the in-class questions then your grade will drop. He also grades very harsh on the essays specifically.
My favorite professor, Dr. Underwear was a master lecturer and canna connoisseur. He is simply the best at rhetoric he knows everything. Dr. Underwear is an amazing person I loved his class and especially his... You know. I definitely got the D in his class you could say. He is definitely a hard teacher lmao hard in many different ways! Underwear!!
Attendance is mandatory if you miss class he will not let you make up discussion points for that day. Doesn't respond to emails. Barely graded assignments 2 weeks ago and got 7/10 on most with no feedback. Didn't get above a C on an essay and gave absolutely no feedback on them and didn't grade them until the week the next essay was due.
Dr. Underwear is the KING KONG of rhetoric! He is the best professor I've ever had and he even gave good medical advice about my back! Dr. Underwear is that rare professor who doesn't leave any feedback. You have to read his mind to know what you did wrong. He also has stimulating discussions where he talks to 1 student in the clas. A+ Underwear!
I was scared to take this professor because of his reviews.Yes, there is a lot of busy work, but it all ties into the essays you'll write. There are 3 essays, lots of time to draft.Attendance is mandatory, but he drops 2 grades at the end. There was no in-person written final, unlike other classes. Do the work, follow prompts, and you'll do well.
There's a lot of busy work, which is the main downside, and the feedback he leaves on papers isn't super clear. The class isn't bad though, the HW is graded fairly, and we only had to write 3 papers. He does a lot of group work in class, and a lot of assignments are just off of participation. Not the most inspiring prof, but a chill class.
Did he assign a ton of homework? Yes. Was he a tough grader? Yes. Was he fair with his assignments and a good professor overall? Also yes. I wanted to drop the class after the first day but I'm glad I didn't. As long as you have good time management skills, get the assignments done, and show up to class, you should pass. I recommend working ahead.
I always enjoyed going to his class! Dr. Underwear is a legend at SDSU. He grades very hard but is willing to meet with you about your paper. Definitely go to Dr. Underwear's meetings. He assigned group work during class based on readings and you had to show up to do it. Dr. Underwear is greatest professor since Plato. Dr. Underwear 4 lyf!
Wow, what a wonderful professor! Dr. Mikey Underwear is the greatest teacher of all time! TAKE HIS CLASS! Dr. Underwear loves to set up dates with his students to see them during the semester. He calls them conferences but we really know what he's up to if you catch my drift. He gave me the D and I liked it. Dr. Underwear GOAT teacher researcher!!!
Professor Underwood is great! He has strict guidelines for papers but has clear instructions that are easy to follow. He is also very helpful and I often attended his office hours. He gave great advice for my papers. There is a lot of reading and homework however it is manageable just make sure to read the material.
I had him for both 100 and 200, and I would take him a third time if I had to. A very understanding man and isn't as strict on deadlines which is great when things get overwhelming. You will read a lot, talk in groups and write a lot but there's nothing you need to study for, the majority of the class is just the 3 papers and some discussions.
You have to experience his class at least once in your life! Dr. Underwear is THE BOMB! The greatest teacher in the history of SDSU! LOVE THIS MAN
I would recommend Professor Underwood's class for RWS 200. The essays were graded somewhat harshly, but he gives great feedback, office hours, and overall wants students to succeed. If you show up for class (mandatory because of in-class assignments), go to office hours, and show that you care, you'll be fine. He's also super passionate and polite.
TAKE HIM! he's the best teacher I've ever had in my entire life. I've never seen ferris bueller as a professor before. Dr. Underwear was fantastic and gave great medical advice about my lower back problem. He's a great examiner and loves Lord of the rings. Our class cracked frodo jokes and he loved it. Dr. Underwear for president! Aristotle level!!
Wonderful doctor and researcher! Dr. Underwear is a cherished professor at SDSU. Best teacher I've ever had in my entire life. He loves to give students the D. He's very generous, especially with grading! Look out for Dr. Underwear's captivating discussions and spell bounding lectures.
He is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME! Dr. Mikey Underwear is an adorable, awesome professor! Jordan is his middle name. The man has good readings. I thought I was supposed to be reading Rhetoric but I got a lot of Lord of the rings. I watched the movies and didn't read the book and got an A. Make sure to laugh at his dad jokes and help the homie talk :)
Amazing lectures but tough grader. You get to read Lord of the Rings over boring rhetoric. He's a very handsome and cute elder in his dress pants! Dr. Underwear is the village intellectual. I loved his class! He gives the D to all of his students. He's very hard, hard at grading that is. Dr. Underwear is GOAT and A+ doctor, researcher and professor
He makes class really boring; he never captivated anyone's attention. Attendance is mandatory; he always takes attendance. He does cancel class pretty often though. There are no tests, only essays with confusing and long prompts.
Don't do it. Very tough grader, with ZERO feedback unless you go to office hours. Boring classes with DAILY group work. You will be required to have multiple meetings with him and the TA. Everyone on here is being creepy and weird about him. Don't waste your time; take a different teacher.
The professor's unclear criteria, lack of support, and dismissive conduct made the course feel designed for students to fail. The TA tried to help but lacked information. Conferences offered no meaningful feedback. This class ultimately undermined my confidence as a writer. If you are looking for an easy A, this class is not it.
He is a really tough grader and makes students go to conferences, but his feedback wasn't the best if you didn't have questions. The class had mandatory attendance and made us do group work daily. It felt like high school. He made us do 3 papers with long prompts that didn't make sense. He is very nice, but makes you feel like a terrible writer.
My favorite teacher this semester!! Dr. Underwear is a legendary lecturer. He assigns tons of group work and we read The Hobbit in his class. Dr. Underwear loves to give the D to his students. He's very hard, hard at grading that is. Dr. Underwear is underrated. I saw him in his speedo at Pacific beach rollerblading. He's greatest professor/doctor!
Although Mr.Underwood is a nice man, his classes were boring. Attendance is mandatory, 3 long essays that you have to read from the reader with unclear feedbacks, required to see him or the TA for conferences, and ALOT of group work. No finals or tests, just 3 essays about 3 different stories.
The class relies heavily on group work and may feel slow at times. There are mandatory conferences with either Underwood or an RWS mentor, though I found the feedback limited if reviewing with the mentor. Essay prompts are lengthy and can be unclear, and grading is strict with little follow-up feedback.
For sure he's a tough grader and doesn't really teach you how to do well. But Dr. Underwear is a sensational professor. He loves to meet with students about their writing and give feedback that, if you do, you still receive the D. Dr. Underwear is all about giving the D to his students. He focuses the class on his hardness. BEST PROFESSOR EVER????
