Somehow managed to make accounting not only understandable but interesting. Incredibly patient with an annoying classmate. Very willing to go the extra mile to make sure students understand the material. One of the few professors who shows that his true priority is making sure the students learn and get the most out of the course.

Nice guy who tries to make accounting simple. Attendance is a MUST. Exams only consist of class material. Flirts with girls in the class way too much, and picks them as his favorites (very obviously) which was the only thing I really didn't like about him at all.

Vanleer is the nicest guy in the whole world. He wants his students to do well and understands not everyone likes accounting and manages to teach it so we will understand. Attendance is NOT mandatory but helps a real lot for your own sake. He doesn't "flirt" with the girls he's just a fun guy and he doesn't play favorites at all. He's veryyyy fair.

VanLeer is awesome and one of the nicest professors I've had at UD! Had him for 207 and 208. He is without a doubt the best accounting professor at UD. The book is helpful but you really don't need it. Just know what he teaches in class and do the practice exams he gives you and you will get an A. GO TO CLASS. It will help your final grade a lot.

He gets that is an introductory class so he doesn't make things complicated or teach you anything you don't need to know. His exams a really fair too. Tremendous teacher, everything on the exams is covered in class so attendance is essential. There are three curves: 1)points applied directly to each test 2)lowest test grade counts half as much as each other test 3)final grades are curved. He made the class really interesting and it was by far my favorite class to go to.

Professor Vanleer is the man! Definitely the best professor I've had at the University of Delaware by far. His lectures are very organized and walks you through homework problems and exam problems step by step. He always stresses to the class to do the homework and complete the practice exams. If you take his advice you will succeed in the class.

Really great guy who cares about his students but his teaching style is not very clear. Often times had to teach myself material. He doesn't use Canvas, and all work is based on the textbook. Very laid back class, but you better study hard for the exams.

Van Leer is a great guy who is very personable with his students. Unfortunately I learned nothing in the course. Accounting in itself is a very difficult class and he does not do a great job of explaining topics. All of the problems are already written on the board and solved when the class begins and he just sits in a chair and explains it.

So although Van Leer isnt the best teacher (he really cant teach), he is probably your best option. I worked really hard and improved throughout the year and he bumped me up a lot. Go to office hours and get to know him - he will help you out.

Van Leer. This man saved my life. I had a legit 60 not even exaggerating in this class and all I had to do was go to his office hours, talk to him, be visibly saddened by my grades which was NOT hard because you know 60. This man. Gave me. A passing grade. My hero. Did I deserve it? No. Will he be in my heart forever? Yes.

The class itself gets tougher as you progress so just keep up with the readings and calculations. Mr V is the best professor to have for a class like this, you'll see what I mean! Attendance isn't mandatory, but you gotta go to understand the material especially the way he breaks it down for you. I'm taking him again for 208!

Very nice, but didnt teach a blessed thing. Keeps practice problems on the board that he did in the 8 AM section, sits in his chair and gives a general overview of the topics with bad explanations, and then tells us to do book practice problems. Read the book to teach yourself and do the practice problems and practice exam and you can do well.

VanLeer is such a nice/understanding guy. He cares about his students and it shows, but he really doesn't teach that much. Even if you go to class all he does is go over practice problems that don't prepare you for exams. If you study HW and practice tests, you'll do okay and he rounds big time at the end of the class which is amazing

Professor Van Leer is a very nice man who curves most of the time. At the same time, the examples he covers in class do not prepare you for the exams. If you seriously study from the textbook and do the practice exams, you will end up with a doable grade in the class, but be prepared to do some studying outside of what he teaches.

Michael Van Leer is a great guy, but a sub par professor (At least on Zoom). He is always disorganized and it seems there's always a technological issue going on or something wrong with his Canvas page. When he is organized, the information isn't the best; I learned much more through the textbook and majority of the tests were textbook based anyway
