I hate this SOB. Always walks around with a mug in his hand thinking that he's smart or something.
Biggest **** teacher, thinks he's god's gift to the world and tries to make you feel like an idiot. By far the worst teacher I've had here at this school and I hope he reads this
Worst professor ever! Doesn't help and never takes anyones opinion into consideration!
Just like Yalcin, is dreadful!! Just because he has that Dr. in front of his name he thinks he knows everything! Stay far far away from this man, and his mug!
I totally disagree with the negative comments made about this professor. He reiterates points multiple times, making it nearly impossible to not understand the material. He's funny (uses humourous examples) and he knows the material very well.
He's a very good teacher and uses examples that even I understood! But he is rather biased in his teaching; be sure you know what your beliefs are before taking this class b/c he can also twist your way of thinking. Take notes!!
The class isnt that hard but the dude is an ass!!! Hes just an athiest trying to shoot down everyone elses views. Never takes other views into account.
Speaks in monotone, boring to listen to, occasionally makes a funny comment
dont take this section drop it why u can, his test are all like 20 questions long, its terrible, and he has suprise quizes and his lectures are the worst.
Doesnt seem to excited about the subject he teaches therefore making the class very VERY boring. Find some other teacher.
STAY AWAY! Surpirse Quizes are on material that have NOT been covered in class, then he will teach the material as soon as the quiz is over. BORING lectures and he repeats himself! This should be an easy class but not with this BAD teacher
THIS PROFESSOR IS FUNNY AS HELL. HE KNOWS HIS STUFF AND THE CLASS IS VERY INTERESTING. HE WILL OFFER EXTRA CREDIT IF YOU NEED IT. I ADVISE YOU TO GET THIS TEACHER!!
Yeh sure he knows his stuff and he may be funny at times, but I honestly hate philosophy now, and if you got opinion on something it fly long, he knocks that ISH straight to the ground bout every time
This class is a piece of cake. The people that gave him a bad rating are morons. The so called surprise quizzes are all but anounced the class before. They are 3 questions long and the only way fail is if you did come to class at all that week
Don't know how I came out with a B. His test are pretty easy if you study. just do your readings.
I LOVE HIM
His class is not that hard. He gives study guides for all of his tests and they are multiple choice. His surprise quizes are easy, you just have to be there. If you want an A, he is the one to take.
Very interesting class- good teacher.
I found his tests really difficult. I hate philosophy.
Tests are very difficult, suprise quizes are easy just go to class, if you need any help he is cool about that. smart way to get a good grade is to introduce youself the first day of class
Puts things in stupid people terms
This guys is so funny, and knows what he is talking about. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. His test are not hard if you study. Just go to class and study his review. He will help you after class if you need it. People who rate him bad are just lazy.
Horrible class....don't take it. It's hard, and his tests are even worse. The pop quizzes stink and its not fun. Fallin asleep is expected!
His tests are ridiculous because each answer could be a possible right answer and he thinks he is funny when he's not. Class is extrememly boring because he puts things in stupid terms. There are 4 surprise quizzes so you never know when exactly not to miss class. Get another teacher!
Great class, it's pretty easy as long as you study. And I think he is adorable. He reminds me of a teddy bear!
This class is very boring. Veber is a nice guy but his exams are hard. I dont recomend this class to anyone.
Ok teacher. If you go to class and get the notes, the tests shouldnt be too hard. Make sure you go to class to, cuz if you take the extra credit quizzes, you get points on your final grade. I wouldnt reccomend him though, talks alot and is pretty boring.
Okay 1 word, HORRIBLE! Hated the class, hated the boring lectures, not personable at all. Comes right in and gets right to work, lecturing the entire time. Exams are the worst-so many possible answers and grading system is completely messed up for an intro level class to NON MAJORS!
I liked his lectures. He made what normally is a tedious class seem more fun and he puts things into everyday language which is helpful. I definantly recommend going to class every day though!
horridly strict in something that is not a senior level class. Kinda of kewl teacher just not great in a sophmore/junior level class!
He has an interesting way of teaching ethics, although his jokes are VERY corny, may come off as sarcastic, but the comments are all in fun. He gives five surprise quizzes which are easy if you read, so don't miss class often, exams can be tricky, but aren't very hard.Just read & come to class.
Don't do it! If you can pick any other professor do it! He is the worst teacher and his test are really hard. He expects you to go above and beyond just basic knowledge of the material. He tries to help you out with some surprise quizzes but you basically have to go to every class to get it!
don't take him. his teaching is horrible and the tests are not clear enough.
This is the hardest professor in an intro course that I have ever taken. His grading scale sucks too! YOu have one freebee point and 3 exams, 33 questions a piece, and if you miss 5 questions on your first exam, you are already down to a 95. HE SUCKS!
A very good teacher not boring at all.Test are difficult, but if you come to class and take notes on what he writes on the board you will not have a problem. I really enjoyed his class. Come to class because he has quizzes that will give you extra points that will come in handy. Do not take this class if you aren't willing to work hard.
He talks like a surfer, but really makes one think. His drawings are funny and add humour to a bunch of dead guys' thoughts. All in all not a bad class.
Not clear
Do not take Veber if you are unwilling to try hard or just plain stupid. Great teacher, great class. People that complain are the ones who are too lazy to go to class, take notes, and study. He does give you a fair warning at the beginning of the semester, so if you didn't drop the class and still failed, it's your own fault.
attendence is not mandatory, but go to class!! take notes and make sure to ask questions if you are not sure. He was an okay teacher, the material covered was boring and useless.
GREAT TEACHER. I LOVED HIS CLASS IT WAS AWESOME. HE REALLY GETS THINGS ACROSS. HE IS AWESOME.
Great class, excellent professor. His syllabus spells out exactly what he expects, so if you can't deal with the tough requirements, drop early. If you stay in the class and do what is required, you'll learn a lot. Highly recommended.
Philosophers from Florida rule. That's pretty much an analytic fact.
Fun class
Amazing
Awesome.
he makes learning abou this useless crap kind of fun. he gives surprise quizzes so go to class. the quizzes help with your final grade and even if you get a zero on the quiz you still get points for being there. tests are a little tricky, he likes to word it so its only half the answer and it messes alot of people up. people who say no are lazy.
Prof.Veber is great! get him.If you actually go to his classes you will get lots of bonus points by just attending. That will help a lot!
I have never hated a teacher more
Do not ever take this teacher. He loves to call all of his students idiots and encourages everyone to drop. Don't do it!
Knows what he's doing. Very approachable, but strict attendence policy
If you can appreciate his dry and, occasionally, brusque sense of humor, you'll like him. His class unfolded exactly as he said it would on day one. He doesn't pull punches when it comes to critiquing work but he is very fair. It was a tough and rewarding class.
Philosophy sucks no matter who you have but Veber is the best of the worst. I might actually like him if it weren't for the subject he was teaching. His tests are kinda hard but not overly. Go to class and take notes you'll be fine.
Dr Veber is VERY..different. He does not have a strict attendace policy, he doesnt care if you come to class, text, read, sleep..as long as you do your work. He has a bad attitude and annoyed me. He has a very cocky personality. He acts smarter than he really is. He is not willing to help you out. But the material is easy. Study and you'll be fine.
He has a dry sense of humor, which you have to get used to. He knows the subject very well though and explains it clearly. Tests are a little hard, but if you study you will do fine. Do the homework, because it is mad extra credit. Attend lectures, all the information comes from them since there is no book.
A very boring class but he did make it a little less boring. Only 2 essay exams and a book review. Never read the book or went to class after the midterm and received an A in the class. just studied the book before the exam and knew basic history knowledge. Essay exams were easy and basic.
Dr. Veber is such a sweet guy! Philosophy is a boring subject either way, but he makes learning fun and he is such a funny guy! I would recommend taking him over any other professor!!! He knows what he's talking about and he gives you so much help- even though he lectures, he puts all notes on blackboard and he gives such clear study guides!
He is SO funny. He uses illustrations to aid his explanations. Helpful outside of class via email- gives homework for extra credit that really helps out with the material. I didn't think I'd love Philosophy so much!
He's rather odd, but he's entertaining. There isn't an attendance policy, but if you'd like to pass, go to class. He randomly collects homework 8 times during the semester, if you turn those in you get 10 points extra credit on your final grade! It isn't a hard class if you listen to his lectures, I never studied and made an A.
SUPER funny guy. He is awesome. Doesn't take attendance. I never went to class and I still did well. Study guides are VERY clear and he puts all notes from lectures on blackboard. I would recommend him!
You can skip class and still make a good grade if you read the black board post
Really funny guy, his jokes make class more interesting. Lectures are not extremely boring, but that is what you do every class. Doing the extra credit will help you on tests, which is a good idea since there is only four of them. Tests are easy if you do study guides. I would definitely recommend this class.
Philosophy is a hard course but he just made it horrible. Lectures are boring and dry. He's awkward and his voice just puts me to sleep. If you don't understand after the first test, drop the class.
This class had potential to be a great experience but you have to completely drop every opinion you ever had about philosophy and agree with EVERYTHING he says. The extra credit guidelines are ridiculous. NO HW just TEST, collects ex credit when HE wantss
Veber is an interesting guy. The material for his class is slightly harder, so unless you're interested in philosophy it'll probably be uninteresting to you and you'll have to study for the tests. Designs the tests in a way that make you question what you know. HOWEVER, he gives lots of extra credit that can bring you up a whole letter grade
Veber is a great professor. He thoroughly explains all the topics, but if you don't go to class, you won't pass. There is no attendance grade, but if you don't go you'll miss out on the extra credit which really helps your grade in the end. I would take this class again.
Long boring lectures, only 3 tests and a final so its easy to screw up on one and get a bad grade. would not take again.
I would study about a week in advance for his test and I would still do poorly on the exams. Boring lectures but I attended class and still did poorly
If you pay attention to his lectures, there is no way you can not pass the class. The test are based directly from the notes in class.
Easiest class I have ever taken. All you have to do is show up, literally just show up, take notes and boom easy A. Never even did extra credit, even though he offers 10 extra credit points that are added to your final average. Study guides are literally 100% just like the tests, and study guide questions are based 100% on the notes.
The only homework you get is for extra credit and a few readings. Go to class and takes notes on the lecture and you'll do fine. The tests are based solely off of his lecture notes, you have to go to class because he does not post the notes on blackboard. This class isn't hard at all just take notes and pay attention.
Class isn't mandatory & he basically posts his lectures online along with study guides. You won't fail if you try a little bit
Veber is one of my favs. I'll bet 90% of these poor/average reviews are from individuals who thought that since it was an intro level class, it would end up being an easy A. Study the study guide he literally posts a week before the test (plenty of time to study lol), take decent notes, and go to class. Also, his dry sense of humor is impeccable.
Dr. Veber has easily been one of the best professors I have had while at East Carolina. I took Philosphy of Sport with him to attain a required humanities elective and it was a great choice. You talk about things in a way that really make you question what sports really are. Would recommend to sports fans and to anyone who enjoys lots of sarcasm.
I thought this class was going to be really hard but it wasn't that bad. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to class every time because if you do you will probably end up getting a TON of extra points added to your grade. I ended up with an A because of the attendance/ quiz grade. The lectures are kinda boring but if you have to take philosophy take w him.
Really good teacher, definitely makes the class more interesting than it really is. Lots of reading and gives pop quizzes on the info. If you go to class and just pay attention you will do well, he posts all his notes and study guides for every test. Tests are tricky, he wants to make sure you really understand the material not just memorize it.
Mental gymnastics at it's finest. Have slight beef with his attitudes towards the validity of science.
Took intro to logic last semester and loved it so much I am now doing a Phil minor. Veber is great, he makes the class sound really hard at the beginning but ended up helping everyones grade at the end. Come to class, ASK QUESTIONS, he will help. Intense subject but Veber makes it easier.
Only thing in the grade book is the 4 exams from throughout the semester which he grades very harshly imo. Rude & condescending towards students. Thinks only his opinion is right. Yaps the entire class and makes everyone take notes on paper no ipads/laptops allowed. I went to mostly every class, took notes & still felt like I was losing braincells
You are not allowed to use any technology in this class which can pose some problems for those who take nots online. Although he is very clear and all his exams and work come straight from the power points and books, he will not let you use notes from previous reading he will get mad if you don't know it in your head.
He can be rude.
Dr. Veber is intresting. The no tech policy is very frusterating but not the worst. He takes attendence sometimes, but I reccomned going to class more than not, it's easy to miss free points if you skip. He has a special skill of putting you to sleep, bring an energy drink. Overall a easy class if you pay some amount of attention.
No tech policy. Veber shows very interesting concepts that I found to be very thought provoking, which is good for a class on thinking, ha ha. If you pay attention in class, it's a very easy grade. You will be lost otherwise, so don't take the class if you don't plan on paying attention. Ask ill-thought-through questions at your own risk.
Very, very lecture heavy; attendance is not mandatory, but he gives out a lot of extra credit if you are in class. Class can be boring but he also tries to get a lot of volunteers. If you do volunteer, be ready to defend your answer because this class will have you rethink all your beliefs.
Professor Veber is a cut-and-dry lecturer. His presentations are dull, but he provides good examples to conceptualize philosophy theories and has clear study guides. Be ready to reevaluate your beliefs. Best way to succeed is go to class and read the papers he sends through canvas. But, his canvas page is awful.
