He is very funny and makes class fun!
truly a gifted teacher. conveys ideas succinctly and effectively. can make even nixon interesting. A+
Very Interesting Class, For something that didn't originally interest me. No tests, just take home essays, project and lectures.
It's all up to you. If you participate in class it will be easy. Don't take this class if you are the kind of student who likes to sit quietly in the back.
great teacher. couldn't be easier. i came from a 4 yr state school to take him for a summer class. very easy. got an A. funny too. doesn't let you out early though.
great professor
very funny, cares about his students. gives lots of extra credit. doesn't let out early though. easy class, just pay attention. not too much work involved outside of class.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had!! He really has a passion for what he does, and makes class interesting! If you love history, and are willing to put a little work into a class, definetly take his clases!
Great teacher. If you don't want to put any effort into this class then don't take it. It requires work but it's reasonable. His tutor however is a complete jack*ss but it's worth the extra credit points
The best in business. You will do some work and learn a ton. Your opinion counts in discussion even if he disagrees with you. Highly recommended.Very fair, laid back and funny too (he makes fun of everybody, including himself). If you are a student who screws around, you are screwed in this class.
EXCELLENT instructor! Very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject. I highly recommend him.
very easy. easy a. i did't study more than 10 minutes per week for the class and i got an a. very easy. couldn't recommend him more! great prof!
Fantastic professor. Liked him so much that I went out of my way to make sure I had him for second class. Lots of information taught by him; don't fall behind because it could spell trouble for you. He's helpful, energic and passionate about the subjects he teaches. OCC needs more like him!
Vollbach was the best teacher i've had!!!
Excellent, best history prof i have ever had
Excellent proffesor. I took several classes with him and enjoyed all of them. O.C.C. definetly needs more teachers like Vollbach.
awesome teacher
He's a great teacher and makes class fun and easy!
Like everyone says, awesome professor. Take his World history and civilization class you'll never be the same again. In fact, take any of his classes and that should apply.

This guy is great! Made ancient history interesting. If you are an ass in his class, you will hear about it, but if you do the work and can write a decent paper with documentation, you will do fine. Whiners, idiots and losers shouldn't take a class with Vollbach: it will crush your precious little psyche! Get over it, you're in college now!!!
Vollbach is enthused, witty and very passionate about the subject. This class is very VERY easy and fascinating. Vollbach is arrogant, though, as prof's can get, and he loves the fact that he knows more than you. Dont ask a question or you will get an annoyed response that will make you feel like a fool.
Excellent, proffesional, and all around good teacher. All one needs to do is try, to actually be successful in his class.
Mr. Vollbach is one of the best teachers i have ever had. He is very intelligent and passionate about his work. His class seemed to fly bye. He keeps everyone involved as much as possible. All around nice guy!

He is a real professor. No **** in this class. You must participate. Write (2 big papers). Listen. And use your brain. If you want easy credit this is NOT the place. I got an A but had to bust my ass for it. You also need to participate in class. It is a hunk of your grade. You do learn allot though.
AWESOME teacher, but he's a jerk as a person. He makes the class interesting. 2 major essays and 2 major tests, he grades hard, he is picky. If you're a quiet person, do not take his class, he marks down every time you speak up in discussion! It is a big part of your grade. If you're sensitive to vulgar language, this is not the class for you.
One of the best history teachers I have ever had.
Finally, a challenging prof.
He's a pretty good teacher
Vollbach makes learning western civilization miserable. He is outright rude to students and grades really hard. I never felt comfortable asking him anything in class because he was so not personable. He is so arrogant! DO Not take his class. He will ruin your G.P.A.
Love Mike's class. If you pay attention and try there is no reason why you can't get an A. Also write properly on your papers...that means USE CITATIONS!!! Does let you re-write papers. First class with Vollbach, and definetly not the last
He makes you cite his own power point presentations. He grades papers based on if they are interesting to him or not. He consider papers late if you are a minute tardy to his class on the due date. Do not take his class and if you have complain to the Dean about him. He picks favorites. DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU HAVE to.
Ok,here's the deal with Vollbach! He is the best.U'll definitely laugh hard in his class,bc there is no way he doesn't say something every time. It is true that he makes fun of people, and that he favors people a lot! But as long as you do the same thing to him though, he won't take advantage of you. You have to stand up for urself right?
Fantastic professor. Write 2 papers, take 5 60 point quizzes that are EZ if you do the reading. The reading is Not difficult if you are a serious student. If you're just wasting time in school don't take the class. He's hilarious, swears but not too much. He's helpful and I think he grades easy, i got a 149 and 150 on my 2 essays.
funny guy, makes history interesting. enjoyed this class.
I LOVED this class!! Vollbach is the best teacher I've ever had. He's interesting and very passionate about his work. It's apparent that he loves his job, and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to be in his class.
Vollbach is a fun, intelligent professor. Good class.
Volbach is awsome!! He doesnt put up with BS, and you will work for your grade. Makes history interesting. Would take again with him.
Lectures are interesting but he is very rude and swears a lot. You have to participate in discussions but sometimes even if you do a lot he will fail you in discussions anyway.
Took this class so long ago, yet I still remember how much I disliked him. Spend half the semester trying to push atheist chauvinism into the material, and the other half cutting students down. I did ALL the work (LONG papers!!)& studied, and he unfairly failed me. Still trying to get my money back.
Mind-numbingly boring. Do not take this class if you have a tendency to fall asleep or if you daydream because you will NOT pay attention. His grading scale is also weird when it comes to discussion because he gives you points on how insightful you are, and that's only if he agrees with you. I would never subject myself to his teaching again.
Ever imagine having Mr. Garrison from south park as a professor? Well this is it. This guy sucks..but the worst thing is that he thinks he's a great professor. Sometimes he will say, I bet before class you thought this stuff would be boring. Word to VOLLBACH: you are boring! You ARE NOT a good teacher. I would avoid this professor. Find another job
To everyone who said Vollbach was boring, you were all just looking for an easy A. Welcome to Reality!!! Mr. Vollbach is awesome he truly knows what he is talking about and at the same time will make you laugh. For everyone looking for an easy A, pick another class. I Recommend this class to anyone who has real desire to learn
Vollbach knows what he is talking about. He may be a bit hard but as long as you do the work and pay attention you should be fine. He is hard to approach at times. Go to the SI sessions for the class, they are very helpful for doing good on his quizzes.
If you are fortunate enough to take a class with this instructor, you better quit wasting your time on the internet & get signed up for his class before its full! He is one of the best instructors that you will have and wants you to be successful. He also has a great supplemental instructor who is very helpful.
This man is not a bad teacher. I do have to say that he is way full of himself. He has trouble coming down to your level, that of a feeb, so there is an overhelming air of pomp around him. BUT his class isnt hard if you just speak up and do the assignments.
Lecture almost useless because in class lecture on topics are lacking in information you are tested on. You have to go home and read everything assigned which covers everything discussed in class anyways.
Vollbach rules. His lectures are informative and he challenges you in the classroom. Puts on a tough air but is very approachable. Wants you to succeed!
Very thought provoking class. Stay on top of your readings and you will do well. Will give you strong lessons on becoming a better writer. Totally hot in a professor sort of way.
Great professor. If you take him for 1960 be ready to write a LOT of papers. A 5 page paper is expected if you do not attend class only worth 25 points. Must read the text book. Do not fall behind working on your project. Very interesting class just be ready to work.
His exams, (for hist 1510 at least), are based off of his powerpoint presentations.
Great professor all around. I learned a ton and had a blast along the way.
Awesome teacher. Show up for class, take decent notes and you're golden. Be warned, if you try and talk while he's lecturing you will regret it.
One of the best teachers I have taken. I hope you don't pay attention to the negative posts on here. They are probably from people that didn't try in his class.
for all you flakes out there yea its a hard class but he makes you think and ok he swears alot but its college your in an adult world so grow up its a great calss and in no way shape or form boring and if you fall asleep then you shouldnt be taking his class and YEA DO NTO TALK WHILE HE IS LECTURING!
If your looking for a class to just cruise through, you've come to the wrong place. He expects you to do the reading, the assignments, participate in class, and pay attention during lecture. Can you believe that! Great lectures and discussion topics. I will take him again for other classes, but then again I'm not affraid of a little work.
Prior to taking this class, I hated history, but the teacher made the class fun and interesting. Mr. Vollbach is very straightforward with everything. As long as you study the lectures and take good notes and participate in discussions, you will do great and he does make u write an essay, but is a fair grader. I received an A-. Awesome professor!
I love prof. vollbach. i have no interest in history whatsoever.. and will probably never take another history class unless it's with him! as long as you do the readings, participate in discussion, and don't talk when he's talking you'll be golden. hes fun and makes lecture interesting
Vollbach is the best.
Outstanding class, best I have ever taken. His humor kept me going.
Professor Vollbach is great. He has tenure, so he speaks his mind and will tell you off if you need it. His assignments are all easy if you pay attention in class. When I took the class if you had an A on the last day of class he didn't make you take the final. Recommended.
He loves what he teaches which goes a long way. His last lecture was amazing...he actually got a round of applause. But, he sometimes got lost as far as where our class was at. He gave us a test with 50% material we had not yet covered. Never tell him he's wrong. Even if you are right, he will refuse to admit it. Lots of work, but interesting.
Outstanding class. Treated community college students like four-year students. Was tough but fair, I would take him again.
Awesome teacher! Highly recommend.
Awsome teacher even though I hot a B-
Terrific class. Loved the discussions!Taught Community college students like four-year students. Was tough but fair, I would take him again.
Can't be lazy in this class. Quizzes are easy. Paper worth 36% of your grade so you better write well. Need to actively participate for grade. Got an A but had to work for it. Teacher's full of himself and tries to get you to "think critically" while bashing every religion. Didn't like the class but I'm not a history fan.
Mr. Vollbach is very talented. He knows everything and guarantees you 1000 points and A's all classes with him if you can prove what you argue with him is correct and have an prove of course. Participate and read is a MUST for this class. No talk within topic in class, no point for you. Talking out of topic, you will be in trouble. His teaching style is very interesting and helpful. You will learn a lot from him. Even history is not my major, I'm glad I took his class. I've learned alot.
Amazing teacher! I've never been very interested in History until I took his class. Attendance is not mandatory but I never wanted to not go! In class discussions are a lot of fun and his lectures were very interesting. I highly recommend taking his classes! You definitely won't regret it=)
Vollbach is awesome, class discussion on reading and earned participation points. Five quizzes and a paper, prove your argument and get an A. Sense of humor and doesn't hesitate to call out students. Class got extra credit for not texting.
Vollbach is sexy. He knows his Sh't.
Tough but fair. Study hard, participate and write a good paper and you'll do okay. If you're not okay with a lot of class participation, don't take this class - it/s 1/3 of your grade. He tends to swear a bit, but his lectures are informative and very entertaining. I didn't expect to enjoy him at all and I find myself wanting to go to class.
Prof. Vollbach is fair, but tough. Very funny! Keeps your attention. I never liked history until I met him. Would take him again.
Tough but fair. Keeps things interesting and has a great sense of humor. Very approachable.
Great teacher - easy on the eyes. Tried several times to give him a chili pepper but it doesn't work.
Great teacher...lot of work, but all worth it..really knows his stuff and very funny. He is also very cute.
The guy is alright, his sense of humor is good. I mean, nobody's perfect but the guy has to work on his attitude. I don't care who you are, but biting your students heads off when you send them email is never a good thing. I had to withdraw the class, but he's probably one of the more better history teachers here. I just didn't do too well, sadly.
He is tough, but very funny and wants you to learn. Wouldn't want to get on his bad side. Makes you commit to learning the material.
Vollbach is the best teacher I have had in college so far. I took 1520,1700 and a topics course from him. His classes can be tough but I really learned a lot from them. His lectures are interesting and he has a great sense of humor.
NO NO NO! Don't take him for Physical Geography. The class started with about 35 students and I just dropped and there are about 15 students left. I missed 2 classes and just missing those 2 classes made me so far behind, I couldnt keep up. He teaches SUPER fast. THIS CLASS IS NOT AN EASY A. Also he is NOT cute in any way.
At first I hated him, but he really starts to grow on you. He really does want you to learn, he gives plenty of extra credit and has a good sense of humor.
AWESOME!!! loved him, he is what a teacher should be. He cares about his students and is passionate about his job!
From day one Vollbach posts all his lecture slides & notes on Black Board; as well as all the tools needed to get an A. He is extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the coursework. He gives students every opportunity to do very well in the class and is great with extra credit. One of the best teachers I've ever had. I never missed a class!
I would definitely recommend Vollbach for this class! He is funny and makes lectures interesting, although it is true that he swears a lot. He also doesn't put up with laziness and lets you know on the first day of class everything you will have to do for the whole semester. Gives A TON of extra credit which will really help your grade.
This teacher is GREAT! I have never liked any History classes prior to this. He is funny & blunt. You should go into this class with an open mind. The key is to do all the extra credit, READ! (I suggest taking notes to prepare for discussions) & start your paper early! If you do well enough in the beginning you don't have to take the last quiz!
The course is the JFK assassination and it's a joint effort with another prof. Off-the-charts fascinating! You read a lot, take about 6 quizzes on the reading assignments and write a few short papers. This class is a must for any history major or devoteè. I looked forward to every week. Kudos!
Mike is a cool guy enjoyed his class
THERE IS 6 QUIZZES 30%)OF YOUR GRADE. 3 DISCUSSIONS, ALL YOU DO IS TALK ABOUT THE READINGS THAT HE HAS GIVEN OUT. (30%) OF YOUR GRADE. ONE ARGUMENTATIVE PAPER THAT HE GIVES YOU THE ENTIRE SEMESTER TO WORK ON. (40%) OF YOUR GRADE. IN ADDITION TO THIS HE GIVES EXTRA CREDIT IF YOU GO TO THE SI SESSIONS. 5 POINTS EACH. THE WHOLE CLASS IS OUT OF 1000
He is clear about what he wants and he knows his topic PLUS I think he's funny. The SI, Jay, is a huge help, so don't miss that. The book w/ primary docs is important. I never read the other book. shh. If you can't write, use a tutor, they're free. I think he is a great teacher.
my favorite history professor ever!
Great Professor. Didn't like him to begin with, but turned out to be a great guy and professor. He makes class intereting and is very clear about what he wants. Gives ton of extra credit. Great SI named Jay who's sessions are very helpful.
He exposes you to critical thinking. He does believe in dumb questions, because he is training you to be resourceful. World class history instructor! One of my favorite teachers ever, and I didn't even particularly get along with him. Jay is great too, and has a bright future ahead of him doing what he loves.
absoluely hilarious. made learning a lot of fun.
Don't take this class in summer.
Took him this summer and enjoyed his hmor and class structure. Improved mt critical thinking.
He was so helpful. He emailed me back all the time, he was always willing to talk with you in his office. If you try with him you will succeed. He was the only teacher who made me like history.
He was a smart-allic when you ask him a simple question. He also thinks hes funny when he uses profanity. He should improve on his attitude alot more, especially with the minority students.Even as an adult in his class you can not walk out of his room while he is lecturing. If you do,expect to be followed.Btw,I dont recommend this class.
Professor Vollbach is awesome!!! He really knows alot about history and makes it interesting. He makes it sound like the class is going to be really hard but in reality its not. You barely have to put in any effort. It was a great summer class Im so glad I took this class with him!!!
Vollbach is a funny and great pro. Tries to make jokes when class gets little tension. The SI, Jay, is very knowledgeable and competent. He's very helpful in quizzes and you definitely learn lots about writing from him. He's also nice to look at.
Great teacher, really knows what he's talking about. If you need a history credit, take him cause youll learn alot and have fun. Many teachers need to learn from him, if you fail this class it's your own fault, gives plenty of chances :D
Good teacher, hard but good. He gives you a lot of chances, but he isn't a very good social teacher, in the means that he can easily insult people and not care about their reaction or what it might mean to them. He's not so much encouraging as much as persistent. I would take him again, but you have to be intelligent for this class.
Vollbach is an interesting and dynamic prof. I learned a lot and he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities which is nice because it is a difficult class. Attendance isn't required, but I would recommend you go. Also, the SI sections are really helpful I learned more about writing in this class than I did in English.
Great teacher. As long as you pay attention and do the work you will do fine. Easy quizzes.
Very well structured on-line class. Regular reading assignments, quizzes and discussion posts - covering 2 chapters each week. Papers are due most weeks also. I enjoyed the format of this class and the professor was always prompt and courteous in both grading your work and responding to requests. I enjoyed this course and learned a lot of material.
I enjoyed his class because I enjoy geography. His grading his fair and he is very knowledgeable. Both helpful and condescending. The due date for test and assignments were changed and he didn't point that out in class at all.Tests are impossible to ace which is why I recommend Google the answers if you are taking an on-line or hybrid class, honest
Vollbach knows alot about ancient history and loves to share it in a humorous way. Get involved in class and you will do well.
Vollbach knows what he is talking about and makes the class fun and interesting. He lays down the rules and you are aware of what is due every step of the way. He makes it easy to enjoy and get a good grade in his class. Wish I could take it again.
A lot of reading. (Which I enjoyed)Fun Lectures. Mr. Vollbach is hilarious! Sometimes the course outline isn't up to date on the desire to learn website, so make sure you read the paper copy of the course outline and ask questions! I also wish I could take the course again! He also gives extra credit, so it is almost impossible to fail.
Great professor, really sparked my interest in history. He made me want to go to class.
He is a sincere funny man. I took two classes of his in one semester and he is very helpful and offers extra credit for going to success seminars! If you're ready for the work, you'll pass his class :)
This was my easiest class. As long as you study, do all your homework, do all the extra credit, you'll be just fine. Also go to the review hour with the T.A. before class.
Vollbach is one of the best History professor I've ever had.
He is the best professor I have ever had. I had a laugh in every single class, he is very funny. He knows a lot and he has done a lot which makes him a very interesting person. He knows what he is talking about and he makes every class interesting. Attend the SI sessions since they help a lot too. It's an easy class if you get involved. Love it!
The only history teacher i have had that actually made me want to come to class and get engaged in the lectures. He is very cultured and knows his stuff. Very intelligent man who is also pretty funny. GO TO THE SI SESSIONS AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT OFFERED. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. ps. the class seems intimidating at first, but do not worry!
Vollbach is a living legend I had him for HIS 1510 he does make you work to earn your grade but he's the man. Huge extra credit. You put in work you'll pass. there's so much to learn from he practically knows everything about history. He's witty too.
Loved Vollbach, would take again. Very hot!!!!
I actually took two classes with him, just because. The second one sounded interesting in the catalog and I was even more interested when I saw he was teaching it.
Clear with what is needed.. Helpful and fair
He's outspoken and hilarious. I hate history and I loved going to his class just because he's a great teacher. He also put all of his lectures online so if you miss class you're not screwed.
Mr Vollbach is a great professor ! I enjoyed his class !There are 5 quizzes but he has a review sheet and SI sessions for them. There is also a research paper which you can do a rewrite. He offers a lot of extra credit so make sure you do them all. Also participate in class discussions ,and Im sure you will end up with an A :)
His lectures are really interesting and he doesn't care if he offends people, he just gives the facts. If you're shy, be ready to break out of your bubble because you have to talk during certain classes or you won't get an A, so just do the readings and be prepared to add to discussion. He 's not great at answering emails, so go to his office hours
Great professor for History and Geography. Super funny. Make sure you do all the extra credit and the homework assignments. Easy A as long as you pay attention and write notes down. Although his study guides are usually very helpful, it did not help much this semester for this Geography class.
Very helpful with research paper assignment. Quizzes are tricky but the study guides are helpful. Gives extra credit. Participation in discussions is a must, but if you are shy there are online discussions as well as in-class.
Awesome stories. Swears. Hilarious. Show, and do your work, participate, and he will do what he can to help you out. starts every class with 20pts of extra credit. wants students to succeed.
He is dramatic (good and bad). Will storm out of the class on discussion days if he feels not enough people read the material (which he doesn't say beforehand the exact material that will be discussed). Gives people who fail on assignments a chance to redo/fix for full credit BUT if the grade isn't that bad, but not 100%, you are stuck with it.
REAL mixed bagpretty great lecturer, makes things interesting, informal and funny (if he's having a rough day you can expect to be let out 3 hours early). My writing-focused history class with him was GREAT, but this quiz-based class was brutalstudy guides rarely posted more than 24 hours in advance, grades posted late-to-never... super stressful
Excellent professor. Show up ready to learn and take notes. Use supplemental instructor, will ace every test and quiz if you do, as well as excellent help on term paper. Show interest and ask smart questions and be prepared you will pass with high marks
If you must take HIS 1510 I would suggest a different professor. I'll admit this guy is wise and knowledgeable but that doesn't mean a thing compared to his willingness to help you succeed. Make sure you do all the readings and participate in the class. Also, he assigns a directed writing assignment and don't expect to pass by doing it overnight.
Good prof, knowledgeable. A little arrogant, but well organized, and enthusiastic about his teaching. Quizzes are a few too many, keeps you busy.
he knows his stuff, but u gotta earn ur seat... very critical that u dont try to correct him (he wrote the side textbook!) he often goes off on random tangents about (weird/boring) personal life long/hard paper at the end
Vollbach is a great teacher. Makes lectures interesting and gives his students lots of knowledge. He offers extra credit.
Sassy! will make you laugh at times yet so serious at other times. almost stormed out of class once because not many students paid attention to him when he started talking and he almost canceled class that day. Although he was absent like 4 times in a 15 week course, it was still an easy pass, would take him again.
I took Vollbach's Physical Geography class over the summer. At first, I was struggling in this class. . Me and another student, who was also struggling reached out to Vollbach for help. He offered help right away. He even took us out to lunch and helped us study for our final exam! Nice guy that cares about your grade and is willing to help!!
I recommend this guy so much, he really cares but will tell it to you straight. Vollbach is a really funny guy and Id take any of his classes again
Mr. Vollbach knows lots of history! We only had 5 quizes and a 300 point essay tp write. The books were expensive and I barley looked at mne. Harsh personality, yells at the class to explain somthing that seems simple to him. Seemed willing to help if you needed it. Our SI was bad too. Need to participate during discussions to get an A.
Class was pretty easy. As long as you show up to class and memorize as much as you can, you will do fine. He is a bit older so he has zero patience. Just make sure to speak loudly and clearly. Make sure to listen because he definitely does not like being asked things twice.
I took the same class as the student below. Vollbach was very specific on what was on map quizzes the meeting before, but was asked to repeat himself constantly. It annoyed many people in class. He would give map quizzes back the same day you took them which was great. Posted examples of maps in advance. Would take again. He was very specific.
All together too informal, borderline unprofessional. Entertaining but gross.
I have never liked history but this class changed my mind. Rather than give a dry delivery, the instructor personalizes historical events. He pulls back the curtain to reveal what really was happening. I will take him again.
Great teacher but his teaching style just doesnt fit my learning style
Transforming. Changed my view on academics and college. Best instructor ever.
The best instructor ever. Gives great feedback on papers. The discussions are the best part of the class. Get to interpret ancient writings. Vollbach is very funny. He keeps things light.
If you want not just learn something, but also have a fun lecture - take him. Go to lectures, listen, read material for discussions, and you are guaranteed to do well on quizzes and get a good grade. We had an SI, so going over learned material and preparation for quizzes was even easier.
Professor Vollbach is a great lecturer, and his classes are very lecture-heavy. You can really tell that he is passionate about history, and he is extremely knowledgable. He has a very dry sense of humor, which some people may take as a bit rude, but I think most people found him to be hilarious. Definitely one of my favorite history professors.
Never posted any grades, tests are worth so many points while there are only like 20 questions in it
If you do the discussions you going to pass he gives good feed back and will help you Tremendously best professor at occ by far
Professor did not respond during the beginning of online classes at the start of the Corona Virus shutdown. Demanded all work be handed in after, then when students asked for extra time and asked for a zoom call he sent out rude and sarcastic emails. During regular class he was very rude to students too. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS BY THIS PROFESSOR
DO NOT TAKE! This teacher is awful at giving help, I asked what sources he would recommend to which he said just to prove your point and when I tried he said not to use a source that is quite credible. Another such instance is when I asked for a picture of an example on top of what he would like, and the ask of an example was ignored
Mr. Vollbach was great to have! I would definitely choose him again and again! Easy and fair grader. Homework is very little and not hard at all; pretty self explanatory. Don't really need the book for the class though, I only used it maybe 3 times for information on homework. He wants everyone to succeed and is willing to help you 24/7 literally!
"Instructor" Vollbach is honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He has extremely poor communication with students, and is extremely rude. Our class had 5 mandatory lectures, and he talked about the exact same thing in all of them and none of it was related to history. He gives a lot of essays, and is an extremely harsh grader sometimes.
Professor Vollbach is one of the best professors I have taken. I learned a lot in his class. Would take again.
The first day I took this class he told the class that there is a great significance to numbers, I wish I understood what meant.
Brilliant teacher. It was a stupid easy class, he grades easy. You do gain a lot of understanding from the class. He tells it to you straight and is hysterical. He's clearly passionate about the topic but does show a couple of movies which feel like a waste of time. I highly recommend the class, he's a great, easy to contact, interesting teacher.
One of the best professors I have taken before, a very respectful teacher who gives good feedback and is willing to help you earn a high grade!
When I was applying to universities, I talked about this class in my essay and the impact it had on me, I highly recommend it! Vollbach doesn't sugarcoat and has a fantastic sense of humor. It is very discussion heavy, but even if you didn't do the reading, it's really easy to participate and he obviously cares about his students. Grades easy too!
Vollbach was a great teacher. Super funny, and had great lectures through the semester. Workload wasn't bad at all. Listening to the lectures is easy. He provided a break through the class period. Hope to take him again in the future.
Funny man but passionate & knowledgeable. At first, you'll scratch your head and wonder if you're in the right place. I assure you, by the end of the term, you will have learned a ton! Don't try to B.S. him though, he can smell it a mile away. At first he's hard to get but by the end of the term, you'll LOVE this guy as much as I do!
I had friend who just took his class over the winter semester but I had a different experience then he did. Volbach has potential to be a good teacher but the controversy between topics he discussed and what we were actually tested on was way more than we needed to know. Lectures took longer than they needed to be. Moretoadd but wouldn't recommend.
It's true he's a funny guy and he made me laugh a few times! But his teaching style isn't for me. He was barely helpful. He grades you based on discussions (both in class and on d2l), tests, and a big essay paper. I thought it was ridiculous that there were 3 textbooks for this class alone. If you don't like close-book tests don't take him either.
