Great patience with students. Knows his subject very well. Lectures always interesting. Wonderful sense of humor.

does not specify what he wants out of his students enough. he is a bit unorganized and often puts students on the spot. i would not recommend taking his class.
Although I don't question this man's expertise in his field, I have to say that his class was the most frustrating that I've had thus far in college. He is extremely unclear and irrational. Overall, I learned little and don't recommend his class.
At first I was taken aback by him and did not like him but he actually knows how to set up an online English course.
Not a nice person. If you can figure out the kind of writing style he likes, as I managed to do, you can get an A. Best bet is to sit there and not make yourself known that way he won't have any reason to mark you down. Tells you how/what/when to do work.
I did not enjoy my experience in Mr. Walker's class. I never understood what he expected from us. He made assigments more complicated than they needed to be. Other people I know have had major problems with him too. Just don't take him.
It's an online class, it's really easy, I'm surprised that other people don't like him. He's less of an jerk half way into the course, I think he's a hardass to keep people out of the class who aren't willing to put in the time.
Worst English class I ever took. He's a meanie head! He always told me how good I did on my papers and then gave me C's. If you can figure out what he wants for his assignments, then power to you... otherwise, don't waste your time.
He's an easy A, you just have to be paying attention to the assignments and grasp paper writing. He's also very nice though he can be kind of intimidating at first.
I love Mr. Walker! He's very funny, really knows his stuff, and very helpful. One of my favorite teachers ever.
I took two of his classes because he is such a great teacher. He seems to have a lot of fun teaching, and his enthousiasm and humor make everthing more enjoyable. He doesn't get paid enough for the amount of effort he puts into his classes.
One of the most difficult teachers Ive ever had. I consider english one of the easier subjects and he made it VERY hard! He likes a specific style of writing that takes the whole semester to figure out, if you can even figure it out at all! I strongly recommend you go with a different teacher.
This guy is a real jerk. He can't be bothered to help you out, or tell you what he wants from your papers or even teach you anything. Then he'll surprise you at the end with your****ty grade when you got good marks on all your papers. Avoid.
He doesnt evey help you and is not very nice. I didnt like the class at all and I think he made some comments that were rude and uncalled for. I would highly suggest not taking this class and avoid him at all cost.
What's with the negativity? I can only assume that those who dislike him were either horrible students or hate english as a general subject. He's an intelligent man, his course is laid out clearly and the only real difficulty I've found is that english isn't particularly stimulating.
Absolutly the worst teacher I have ever had. The writing style that he expects is so hard to understand and he is unwilling to help. He is a jerk and doesn't care about any of his students. Stay away from this guy!!
I think Walker is a good teacher to take for higher level English classes. In my British Lit class he has been nothing but friendly and funny. He's a decent teacher, though I would like to see more writing assignments incorperated into the class. (There is only one.)
I really liked him. He was funny and interesting, and picked good paper topics. Also, On the Road was a really good book. I would reccomend taking Walker.
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. Class time itself was very unpleasant. I felt insulted by his lectures. He spoke to the class like we all didn't want to be there to learn anything. He was not a pleasant teacher to learn from. He was not happy guy I guess. He seemed mad almost every day.
This guy is such an ass. He doesn't care about student success and is SO unhelpful, not matter how hard you try. Don't ever disagree with his opinion or you're screwed. I LOVE English, but he's enough to ruin it for anyone.
Honestly, the WORST teacher I've EVER had. He wasn't interested in helping me and every hour in his class was torture. Doesn't listen to others' opininions either. Watch out!
this guy's a complete homophobic prick, and can't teach for****! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
The man knows what he's talking about; however, he hates communicating with students, which is a big problem for a teacher! The material, the homework, and the tests are OK, but the teacher is not, so, try to avoid him!!
I had Walker for English 110 as did my boyfriend before me. We both thought he was a total prick. Then I took his British Literature class and he was COMPLETELY different. Nice, funny, helpful, thourough; everything you'd want in an English teacher. My gue
Walker has been my least favorite prfessor at SBCC! I would suggest taking english with someone else (if you have the choice). It was hard to follow along... Test were hard... I worked my butt off and got a B... I would never take him again!

Never take this teacher. He's rude to students and clearly doesn't care about them. My least favorite teacher here.
Dont take this teacher for online class. Really hard and you have to fight to get a good grade
I'm in the online class and I really like him as a teacher! He's the most organized online class im taking. I think he is a really easy teacher; the semester ends in a month and I still have 100 percent. I dont know how he is in person, but if you're wanting to take an online class, then go with Walker's online English 111 class...u wont regret!
he was a great teacher, as longas u show interest and keep on track he will help u as much as he can. he is a very nice guy if you're nice to him and he is a great teacher
Maybe he'd be okay as an online instructor (he openly admits to our class that he spends more time on his online students) but as a flesh and blood instructor he stinks. His main focus is not encouraging students to learn and grow, but rather "if you don't get it the way I teach it then too bad". He's the kind of teacher that really doesn't care.
He's one of those teachers where you HAVE TO be on the same wavelength mentally or you won't understand his expectations. Thusly, the directions for his assignments can be very unclear and misleading unless you have magical insight into how he thinks. To sum him up, I would call him extremely eccentric, but aint that bad. Ive had worse teachers.
Run far far far away from this teacher!! He's the WORST teacher SBCC has to offer. Cancels class if not enough students show up to suit his ego...is not helpful to students who seek him out, and is so disorganized it will make your life a hell. Do yourself a favor and pick ANY other eng teacher available.
I get the impression that his lower level classes may not be quite the same as my experience, but if you are considering taking one of his upper level courses, definitely do so, and don't be dissuaded by the commenters on this site. He is an excellent teacher and I recommend him.
I'm confused to see the number of individuals giving Mr. Walker negative reviews on this site. I had Mr. Walker last semester and it was an enjoyable experience. I found him to be a nice guy, helpful with class material, and an overall good teacher. If you go to class and write your papers in the correct format you'll do fine.
I love this professor. He actually challenged me and is the only teacher who has given me helpful critical remarks on my papers. He makes me want to read old weird books and new weird books so that I can have erudite conversations with friends. He's funny as all get out if you get his humour. I've taken two classes with him and they were great
horrible horrible horrible. STAY AWAY!!!!! he is boring and thinks hes sooooooo great. doesnt teach a thing....worst teacher at city college!
Mr. Walker is an AWESOME teacher!!! I am not an english major, and I have gotten A's on every paper. The topics are clear, most of the text is easy to understand, he gives papers back timely and loves to give positive comments on them. He has a funny sense of humor, very unique. I was dreading my last semesster of english, but he was great.
Mr Walker's class is really easy. There is a limited amount of work that needs to be done and you get an A. His class is online, so that is always an added bonus and it is unlike any other online class that I have taken, the assignments are clear and pretty easy. The only thing I did not like was the assigned book we had to read.
He's a great teacher who keeps you utterly enthralled with his absolute love for literature. His wit and humor are a huge plus and I can't imagine why anyone (who appreciates English) wouldn't want to take his class!
I think Walker was fantastic and completely enthralled in what he teaches. He made me look at poetry in a completely new light and I'd recommend him to anyone who's interested in lit. and learning about awesome writers of the past. He's super hilarious and flexible with hours / assignments as well. But only if he likes you. Which is easy if you sho
Mr Walker is an instructor who for my English 110 class seems to thoroughly enjoy teaching this subject. However he tends to lack organization and he also puts up information in class that conflicts with his website which is extremely confusing for someone trying to work on an assignment. If you do your work on time good. Warning:can be a prick
Course was confusing, but helpful in writing. all the assignments are essays and there are a lot of them. walker is a really smart guy, but he knows it so it makes him extremely conceited.
It truly is a shame that this person, who is so incompetent in teaching bestows the privilege of being a professor...This man teaches false/bankrupt information, is a hypocrite, and THINKS he knows all about English ... When Barack Obama speaks of getting rid of BAD teachers, Mr. Walker is exactly who he's talking about!!!Furthermore, he's totaly c
Who decided that this man should teach English? What a joke!
I have taken two classes with Dr. Walker and have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The class is interesting as long as the pupil is willing, and he is a very fair instructor. If you show an interest in improving you work, he is helpful. I would recommend his classes to English Majors, and would take them again.
I went into this class dreading it- british lit sounds terrrrible to me-but I ended up really liking it, its not too hard as long as u do the work(which isnt a lot-4 short papers no midterm)Mr. walker is really nice, responds to emails very quickly. I ended up not needing the class..im going abroad for school-but very glad i took it!i reccomend it!
I think Mr. Walker is a great professor. He is intelligent and funny, which makes his lectures very interesting and informative. I thought it was great also how all papers were to be e-mailed to him and he e-mailed students all the class notes. To anyone who likes literature, this is a great class and Michael Walker is a good professor!
I do not agree with his teaching style for the most part, but he serves the purpose of education. He is straight forward and will tell you what he expects for a paper or assignment. Be prepared for political undertones, Walker tends to stand on a mini soap box. He is very intelligent sometimes this gets in the way of his teaching/clarity of assignm
Mr. Walker is definitely a great teacher. He is very straightforward,to the point, and really really intelligent.A lot of reading. luckily i got an A in the class but believe me I EARNED IT! sometimes I would be doing his homework ALL day, and then start my other work at 1am. Thats just me though, others would just wing it but winging it wont give
He really encourages in depth reading. Has insanely short papers: 2 pgs to compare 2 of Chaucer's tales! However, his class made me become a much more succinct writer. Wonderful intellectually challenging class!
most amazing teacher i have ever had! i am not even an eng. major, and this was by far my favorite class! he really encourages you in developing your own analysis as long as you can support it and has helped me become a much better reader and writer.he's hilarious too which makes class fun. one word, AWESOME! take this class
Prof. Walker is truly incredible. His classes are so interesting and have had a dramatic effect on how I've continued in the field of English. The book assignments are daunting, but he does a good job guiding students through them. Be sure to do the reading/papers and talk to him if you face any issues. He's more approachable than he might seem.
Absolutely inappropriate! and unprofessional I can't understand how he even has a job!
Depending on your personality you may like this teacher or you may not like him. I dislike this teacher. He picks such boring books that no one likes in the class. He treats students like crap if the don't know what they are talking about and then gives us a quiz. I honestly will take a different for 110 to save you the trouble. Anything is better
completely rude and unpredictable. You never know how he is going to act that day in class. He also would assume us to have assignments done that he never assigned along with canceling class for two weeks and only completing half of the material we were supposed to cover. i would avoid this professor if possible
If you engage in class discussions everything will be easier for you. He truly rewards students who seem genuinely interested. Sometimes his instructions may seem vague but take the time to go to his office hours and he will make everything clear. Keep up to date with the reading and make sure you understand the assignments and you'll be fine.
Michael Walker is a very interesting professor ONLY IF you are interested in literature. He is very passionate about what he does and if you take the time to appreciate what he has to teach you will find the course very rewarding. If you are not an english major, or are not interested in english you may find the course frustrating.
Has great taste in literature! Its easy to get into the books he chooses. Maybe a tad dry at times but overall a great teacher. His dry humor is hilarious. Make sure to annotate everything you read! It makes a HUGE difference.
Our in class time is not engaging. To do well do the assigned readings because the random quizzes can definitely make the difference in your final grade. Take the papers seriously. I got an A on a deeper thought paper not as eloquent and I got a C paper that was obvious but well written if that explains his preference at all
Some find him disorganized and rude, but he is so clever and knowledgable any strange behavior should be pardoned. His classes are all worth taking. He is not an ordinary guy so don't expect an ordinary class structure. However, if you are partial to the mundane power point lectures of other professors, stay clear.
He is rude. I dropped the class cause of his poor grading. I put a lot of effort on my paper. I don't recommend to take his class EVER. Additionally, he speaks very slow and you cannot hear him clearly.
Honestly, the worst English teacher I have ever had. He spends his class time with his eyes closed and laughing at his own jokes. Not to mention, his grading techniques and notes have no relevance. HATE HIM
Amazing Teacher. Mr. Walker is an extremely smart and entertaining professor. He knows English and literature. Pay attention to his lectures, take notes and read paper assignments carefully and you will get a satisfactory grade.
Honestly, he talks very slowly and the essay topics are difficult and hard to write on. He does however care very much about bettering students' writing skills and gives feedback after he returns papers. He isn't THAT bad of a professor, and sometimes his classes are interesting. Be prepared to spend a little extra time on his class.
What a nightmare! His dry humor is great and so are the books he picks, but the class is entirely disorganized. If you must take it with him: show up to every.single.class and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Prof Walker isn't the most clear w/ his explanations of the assignments he gives. I was normally sent out confused w/ what I was supposed to do for my paper or HW. The books he picks are interesting & he can be funny sometimes, but his teaching style is very unplanned. He does a lot of work on the computer so that's a plus for visual people like me
By far the worst professor at SBCC! There is no rhyme or reason in the way he grades papers. Basically he gives A's to the students he likes and F's to the rest. The syllabus is useless because he moves so far away from the planned course material. If you seek help from him he is unwilling to work with you and responds with condescending remarks.
I was initially worried about taking this class because of the negative comments and experiences of several students. However, I'm pleased to say that I've had a great experience. My only wish is that I had attended more and participated in discussions. Walker is sincere and helpful. He is actually a decent teacher and his class is entertaining.
Pretty difficult and controversial topics for the research papers, and you'll need to take a time to do your research during weekends. But I l learned a lot of skills that I need in other classes. I enjoyed taking his class because his grading reflects your effort!
Worst teacher I have ever had!! DO NOT TAKE HIM! He's rude, unorganized, and has no rhyme or reason to the way he grades papers. I barely got a C in his class and worked my ass off all semester. On the last paper I got an A to which he said he would raise my grade, then did not.
Quite the character. Interesting and not boring. Do your work and discussions and course work is a piece of cake.
Most frustrating thing about Walker is the lack of feedback he provides. He is certainly intelligent in his field, but still difficult to understand at times. When writing papers for him, be very professional. Don't write like you're a novelist telling a story, just sticks to the basics: intro, thesis, body, conclusion. He has a bias to writing.
Most people seem to have a hard time understanding, but even as an international student I found it quite easy to do well. You don't need perfect grammar or spelling, you can still get 100% on papers. Final was easy, no midterm. A few quizzes about the books, a few name quizzes since attendance is expected. If you're following, lectures are great.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is constantly talking about sex and drugs such as marijuana and cocaine. He encourages use of drugs and says to "do what makes you happy" He is a crack head that has no reasoning behind his grading. He said my paper was excellent for the class but for me he believes I could have done better. Save Yourself
Prof. Walker is a solid English professor. His lectures get a little off topic, but he is hilarious so it doesn't matter. Grades fairly. If you do the reading, you'll do well in his class. Papers and final were pretty straightforward. Also, he's very easy to get in touch with if you have any questions about papers or other assignments. Take him.
Do not take Eng 111 with Professor Walkers. Having been one of the students that showed up to every class, I still think he has un-realistic expectations for his students. Little to no time on daily quizzes, unclear with assignments, grades too hard and is flat out rude. If he gave a different approach to teaching his class wouldn't be half bad.
He is really unclear with what he wants on the assignments. Talks about sex constantly! RUDE.
had him for 110 & looking forward to having him again for 111 this upcoming semester. The class was fairly easy for me, maybe just because I have always enjoyed english. He is very upfront about what you need to do to pass, if you follow his directions you will get an A easily. He's hilarious but people take him too seriously and get offended
Professor Walker makes it clear what you need to do to pass the class. Although I did not do well in the course, I know why and he totally called it like the first week of school. His English 110 course is interesting and involves critical thinking. This class has rich value so long as you pay attention and work for it. Sit in front and dont be shy
Funny professer
Having to pay for a course I expected it to be a an actual class. He is very unusual, hilarious but often hits a different line. He has graded all my papers with a very bad criteria. Maybe I would've done better if he had explained what to do instead of looking at YouTube videos all class long. Under any circumstance do not take this class.
Walker is funny but can be extremely rude & unprofessional. However, his class is an easy A. You show up, you do the six papers he asks you to write, and that's it. He doesn't even take roll. You're basically watching YouTube videos all of class and getting way off topic. Take this class if you're feeling lazy. I heard that his ENG111 is hard tho..
We do a total of 4 essays during the semester, and there's not actual test given in his class. He is absolutely so funny, but beware he has an extremely dry sense of humor... which is hilarious. But don't take him too seriously. We mainly read short stories from 2 books (always bring these to class, or he'll usually kick you out).
I love the class, professor Walker is full of knowledge, and he is not afraid to challenge your learning criteria. I wish there were more professors like him. It was a pleasure taking Eng 110 and Eng 111 with him.
Since your grade was based only on the 4 papers we did throughout the class if you got a bad grade on one it made it tough. Not clear with grading criteria but for me it was easy to write what he wanted to hear. He never used the books &never took attendance. while the class was an easy A for me I was fine with it but it didnt prepare me for 111.
It was a really easy class, he grades easy, and has a bunch of one-liners and stories that help you get through the readings. There are occasional homework assignments that were easy points, and a total of 5 papers. He's retiring this year, so I am glad that I got to be in one of his last classes. 8/10 would take again.
