Not an easy class, most definitely. I had to study a lot to earn and A, and math is my strongest subject. If you struggle with math, do not take him. But if you like math and you want a challenge, go for it. He will answer your questions nicely if he sees effort. My advice is to form a study group. Pay attention in lecture because he skips steps.

Prof. Wallace is very helpful, but you have to ask questions!!! He's very reasonable when it comes to grading - even if your answers aren't 100% "correct" on quizzes, if you display knowledge of the subject/formulas/concepts, he'll give you some credit. WONDERFUL Stats prof!!!

I do not recommend taking Professor Wallace. As he does have a lot of knowledge on the subject he is a hard grader and his test are nearly impossible. When you ask a question he treats you like you are dumb and should know how to do it. While a majority of my class was failing he did nothing to try to help us bring our grades up. Very stressful.

I'm mixed about this teacher. On one hand, he really knows his math and can actually be pretty funny sometimes. However, his class is insanely tough. Prepare yourself for a lot of self-study (either through textbook exercises or online resources like Khan Academy). Avoid him like the plague if your math foundation is weak.

I had him for 265 last year and came back for 267 this semester. Professor Wallace is one of the few professors at NOVA who isn't afraid to challenge his students. His classes aren't easy, but if you put in the work, they're incredibly rewarding. If you really want to learn your math well, he's the guy for you.

100% do not take this class if you struggle with math at all He solely teachers by posting videos online even though it is marked as an inperson class This is 4 videos a week at least 25 mins each w constant teaching. This doesnt include homework He does not teach at all during class time and just goes over questions asked not good for a shy person

He's not bad. He just gives homework that isn't graded, so you will need to do lots of self-motivation to learn, and you don't have anything to help get your grade up aside from the difficult exams. If you manage to do all the homework, exams won't be too hard for you.

Took professor Wallace for Calc 1 in Fall 2022. He's a very competent math teacher who understands that the topics can be hard to grasp, if in doubt just ask questions. Some homework, and quizzes were based on it. Exams were hard, but the curve was just enough to get a B after showing up to all the classes. Fantastic math professor.

He is extremely strict. Class is only tests and quizzes do the hw submit a pic for the quiz and same for test. He will not work with you at all, you have to follow his rules. His lectures are really boring too, he explains ok and gives students chance to ask questions. Would not recommend.

Smart guy. Interesting lectures. Well-structured course. Test questions can be hard at times but he gives a lot of partial credit. Not going to be the easiest course, but it's not supposed to be. Put in the work outside of class, use the textbook frequently, and you should be fine.

Hate this man his lectures are fine I guess but at the end of the day they don't tell you anything you actually need to know. Main problem with his course is that this entire class (88% of the grade) is based on 5 stupid exams filled with difficult questions that you get little partial credit on if you get wrong.

He is very knowledgeable, definitely knows what he's talking about. However, his classes are very fast paced and he's a mean guy tbh. He encourages students to ask questions but then humiliates them for not knowing something. Calculus can be hard in general, but having a teacher you're afraid to talk to is definitely not it. I wouldn't recommend him

Professor Wallace is clearly really brilliant when it comes to math. Unfortunately his teaching style did not work for me at all. He's very impatient when it comes to explaining things, the only graded assignments are 4 quizzes and 5 exams there is NO GRADED HOMEWORK so keeping your grade up is really hard. Overall would not recommend.

He was an alright professor imo. It's clear that he knew what he was talking about, but he couldn't convey it to his lectures. The tests consisted of 3 multiple questions and around 4-6 free response. He was harsh with the actual grading and partial credit of a question. Refused to give us more assignments to raise our grade.

As others have said he certainly knows his stuff but not how to teach it. He acts like you should ask questions but his answers can be very vague or blunt. His class had 3 exams (6 questions for each) with 1 cumulative (8 questions) and only 2 small assignment, nothing other than that. Canvas gives very little info or help as to what to prepare for

He's great at teaching the content and he does his job in making sure you've learned something when you leave his class. He's genuinely the best professor I've ever had; if you didn't like Wallace, then you're probably salty you didn't do well in his class. Everyone in my class, who didn't fail his course, liked him. His rating should be higher.

Great professor who teaches properly and answered all questions. If you don't understand, meet with him or ask questions in class, he's very patient and eloquent. His grading is test based and don't expect extra credit or dropping test grades. Only take this class if you're willing to properly learn the content and succeed in future math courses.

It seems some students simply expect an easy “A” without putting in the necessary work. Many have not developed strong study habits and are accustomed to being guided step-by-step through their math classes in high school. It's time to adapt, this is not high school. College is where we step up and take full responsibility for our own learning.

Tests are much harder than class/homework, and he is a tough grader. He can be rude at times and spent a lot of lectures ranting. Got better towards the end, but still wouldn't recommend. There are many profs at NOVA who teach the material way more effectively, it's no coincidence that he has the worst reviews even from people who like math.

Don't give Wallace the benefit of the doubt because he is an awful teacher. Calculus should not be as hard as he makes it appear. His lectures do not adequately prepare you for homework or exams. Avoid this professor if possible. If you enjoy math you'll do fine, otherwise take someone easier. He's very harsh but does teach relatively well (explains concepts and why rather than just how). His quizzes are directly from the homework and the exams contain mostly similar problems (with a few new harder things). You will have to put in work.

Nightmarish. The class averages? I see them in my sleep. A professor who is all fun and games until the class starts. Then the doodoo hits the fan.
