He gives you the answers to the test/quizzes 2 weeks before. Required reading is not that required. Take this guy if you can, kinda goofy.
a really guy, very passionate about his subject
This guy is bad ass. He's not very hard and he's a smooth operator. Great teaching style. Kind of rambles. Definitely goofy!
he is a total airhead! he is really cool and passionate about indian history
He's a little of balance and occasionaly goes off on tangents. Overall he's a good teacher. An easy "A". (You really don't have to do the reading, just take notes on lecture)
Really great teacher, likes to have student interaction and discussion about topics. Really fun class definitely not boring. You will learn a lot of juicy tidbits and facts in his hitory class than you would in someone elses. Take his courses.
sooo chill im waiting for him to be like allright guys so u dont understand anything ive said the whole semester but its allgood LETS GO TO MEXICO >>>
He graded easy, so i'm returning the favor.
Loved this class. Very good lectures and very easy exams. Very willing to help.
Goofy? Easy? Well, I don't know about that, but he is way enthused about his subject and he's an excellent instructor. If you're not especially interested in history, but you have to take it anyway, take any class he teaches. That might change.
His tends to go off on tangents during his lectures but that is because he knows so much about world history. His tests are easy because he gives you a study guide. Bottom line: If you enjoy history, take this class because Ward knows his ish.
I totally agree with everything that was said by the last rating. He defiantly tends to go off on tangents. Fun teacher.
Great Professor really knows about subject I highly recomm him!!!
Yes, he's a very easy grader, but even though the class was easy, I seem to have retained alot. He's great and very much into what he's teaching. You learn and remember alot because he presents it in an almost entertaining way. Take him if you can. At least you'll have an easy A.
Just sit through the lectures. He gives out a study guide with the test questions on it.
Not very clear due to his tangents
I am baffled at all the good reviews. He was the WORST teacher I have had at VC. He is not mean and he is enthusiastic about his subject but HORRIBLELY unclear and wastes time going off on confusing Tangents and then forgetting where he was. Extremely inarticulate. Gives out a study guide, so if you don't mind BORING lectures take him.
Excellent teacher, makes the experience of learning the subject matter enjoyable.
The only way to pass this class is to study the outlines he gives you a couple of weeks before the test. All you have to do is study 80 definitions but he only uses 20 on the test!!! Then you have to explain two topics discussed in class. He goes off topic a lot!! He knows his History very well but when he goes off topic it drove me crazy.
Class in terms of grading is very easy. He gives you the study guides about 1 week before the test, so if you care only about the grade and not the course, you dont even need the book. However, its a pretty interesting class, and he knows a lot about history, goes off on tangents about other events, but doesnt explain them clearly sometimes. A+
This the second time I took his class but I learned a lot from him. He goes off topic a lot to explain the backdrop on what his teaching but it helps. He knows his history. He gives you an outline of the test which makes it easier. The test are fill in the blank and mini essay questions and one regular essay. He's a good teacher.
I took this class in the summer of 08. Ward is one of the most boring professors ever. He takes attendance, but doesn't care if you come. He never uses the book, but I recommend that you do so that you know what he's talking about in his ridiculous exams that have like 100 questions and than essay questions on top of that.
Dr. Ward is an extremely easy history teacher as well as a knowledgeable one too bad he is only teaching one class fall semester.
HE SUCKS AT LIFE!! I got an A in his class, but I still wouldn't recommend anyone to take a class with him.
I took his online class. No midterm or final, only homework and quizzes on each chapter. Quizzes were easy and only ten questions. For homework he gave us 15 questions we had to answer. Make sure to write a lot for each question. It would take me an average of one page per question so it was almost like 15 essay questions. Overall I can honestly say I learned a lot but I probably wouldn't take him online again.
Great teacher. Tests are pretty hard because they are fill in the blank and essays as opposed to multiple choice so you REALLY have to study, but that is normal in universities so I am glad to see a teacher who practices this in community college. He is great and lecturing and keeps you interested with awesome stories.
Dr. Ward is extremely intelligent and a very nice teacher. His class is easy as long as you study for his test, which he makes study guides for. I'd def take one of his classes again. Possibly the best teacher I've had so far at VC.
MR Ward is very smart but he tries to make his history classes harder then college level. He attempts to make them like universitys with a LOT of writing essay in both the Native American class and the US Hist II. I took his online US Hist and he requires you to do 15 discussion quesitons a week with a easy quiz every week. Its really takes time
GREAT TEACHER!!!! Very nice and is very helpful towards students. He tries to answer all he can but makes learning history more fun because before him i hated history!! Now I want to learn more!! =)
He is interested in subject, Tends to ramble on a lot causing lost of interest in class, does take roll and gets angry when u leave early, bring your laptop and sit in the back.. because nothing he really teaches is on the test. He gives u a study guide for the test and thats all u need to pass. memorize terms and essay and u will get a A or B
Tests were really easy but class is really boring. You don't really need the book unless you want to look up the essay questions that he gives ahead of time. Nice guy though.
Great teacher. Not much work, just a few tests and the final. Before every test he gives the questions and the answers. Goes on tangents a lot, sometimes takes roll, sometimes he doesn't, but he counts attendence towards your grade. Very easy class.
I took his class online..there were 10 essays each week..I would devote one day to writing them..and then an easy quiz. He was reasonable and involved on discussion board. He was very responsive via email, and encourages participation on board, as part of your grade. Aced the class and learned a lot.
Although his class seems simple from the beginning, it's really not. I used to be extremely passionate about History, but the tangents he goes on really killed the subject for me. He teaches with powerpoints which include a lot of pictures, but no actual information that you need to learn. Prepare to do a lot of self teaching
DONT DO IT!!!! you can use this class to catch up on some sleep or something. CLASS IS SOOO BORING! i thought my hs teacher was bad. but overall all he does is talk. and a good week before the test he gives a study guide..you kno that and your good to go.but seriously........ NOT INTERESTING AT ALL
Mr. Ward is always smiling. Very kind and understanding professor. Mostly lecture but course gets somewhat challenging. Very interesting and professor has a wealth of information and is very well read on the subject of History.
Very sweet teacher! The class is set up for you to get a B without trying. Study guides you get 2 wks before the test tell you the vocab and essay question. Bring in your paper for discussion day and he will grade it so you know already to improve it for the test or that you're golden! History club events can give you up to 10% Extra credit!
Ward is a wonderful teacher! He is passionate about history, extremely knowledgeable and his so called "tangents" are fascinating and always relevant. He just wants everyone to learn and succeed. He will look over your work beforehand, and grades generously. Do read the books for multiple choice! I would take this teacher again! He's the BEST!!
Very good Professor. Thorough and makes Class interesting with good discussion.
Boring class but a great teacher
Really nice guy. Gives 1 quiz, 2 midterms and a final. Gives study guides with definitions and essay questions on them. You just need to read for the multiplace choice. Great professor and I learned a lot from him!
Dr. Ward is all over the place. His lectures never follow any of the text, he does not teach by chapter, and his teaching is heavily opinionated. I heard most of the class complaining about having no idea where he's at most of the time. He goes off on stories that have no relation to what we're learning. Tests are also graded with heavy opinion.
mr. ward makes the class very boring and hard to follow. he gets way off track from whats being taught and the powerpoints are useless because they're just pictures.he gives tons of reading that skips all over the chapters. his study guides don't help much and tests are hard with strongly opinionated essays.
He is a very nice teacher but to be honest I am not fond of his tests. Having to memorize a whole essay question then anywhere from 14-20 long definitions then a multiple choice part that has questions that he never brought up in the lecture and at times seem random
Really really great teacher!! He takes the time to answer any questions that you have and is a very nice guy. The tests are a little weird in that you have to write an essay and memorize definitions, but still isn't that hard. Got an A and would definitely take him again. Such a good professor!!
Nice guy, worth taking with him. Textbook is for reading chapters outside of class. He can and does get off topic a lot, but if you read the chapters you should have no problem. Gives out essay questions on exams but gives the questions out ahead of time for studying.
Dr. Ward is a great teacher, regardless of the fact that he goes off into random stories, but they're historical nevertheless. The book is a must, and you need to be an independent studier in order to do good in class. He does give out the essay questions ++ vocab ahead of time so you should be good.
Loved this class so much. Dr. Ward is awesome and very passionate about history. read all material and get engaged in class discussions. Exams are pretty difficult, however he does give u a study guide. Don't use your cell phone & don't leave during lecture. He really cares about student educational goals. I would take another class with him.
Worst teacher i have ever had. Not organized, messes up quiz period for a.m and p.m. NEVER TAKING ANOTHER CLASS WITH HIM!
Good class but professor is strict about plagarisum. I dont like turnitin Why cant I copy from the book?
Professor Ward is a great guy but his class isn't an easy one. It requires you to read the text book often. There are 3 test and on each test are 2 short essay questions. He really knows his history but does tend to go on tangents about random things. Hard to stay awake in class if you plan on a 7am class. But overall a great teacher!
Dr. Ward is a great history professor, even if he sometimes gets sidetracked. As long as you read the material, you'll do fine!
He is very passionate about history and open minded about different opinions that come from the students. Though, the only thing he does in class is lecture from powerpoints and so it was really boring! But the only assignments are the quiz, 2 midterms, and final which is ALL online and open book! so there isn't much chance to fail the course
This was a fun and easy class! Thank you prof. ward!
Native American's History Class Prof. Ward has incredible knowledge and he lectures with passion! Please read his assignments, they are super interesting. I learned a lot in this class, I will take more from Michael Ward. Also, he is a kind and considerate man. I like his politics back from the sixties when people used to speak up against "the man"
Mike Ward is the professor that will influence your college experience dramatically for the positive. He is tough but fair, gives amazing lectures, and goes the extra mile every time for every student. Take every class he offers! You will thank yourself for years.
One of the best professors I have had. You learn a lot of amazing facts and he really helps you become interested in History. His online class was very easy as well as knowledgeable. He hosts many activities's around campus for students to engage themselves in Historical research. How could somebody not ace his online course?
Great Professor!!!
This is my second class with Dr. Ward. His lectures are full of amazing facts that will blow your mind. Though he is a relatively easy grader, I still learned more in his classes than any others. Michael Ward is a very kind person and he smiles throughout the class. Online tests are some multiple choice and some essays.
He is terrible as an online professor. I have taken many online professors and loved them. He does not know what he is doing. His questions are confusing and illiterate, he is nearly impossible to get a hold of, and he is an unreasonably tough grader. Also some of his quiz answers were in direct conflict with the book! Homework load is minimal
Great professor. He gave detailed feedback on each assignment. He gives 2 chances on quizzes, so you have double the chance for an A! Gives extra credit assignment at the end. Easily available via email. Great guy
I have taken professor ward for 18a, 20a. He is pretty chill guy. Discussions and quizzes every week, that's it. I like the books he picks. He is totally understanding and I like his teaching style. Must take if you don't like history much.
He was a really great professor. Seriously, his feedback is amazing, his tests are clear e, he provides GREAT notes on d2l, and best of all he is relaxed about attendance (although I would show up, his lectures are pretty vital). The only negative is that he is a rambler, but he really knows his stuff and his rambles kinda pertain to the class.
He lectures with power points that hold no information consist most of pictures seems like a easy class untill you get your test and have to write essay if youre good at selflearning through direct reading then its good class but the book he recommended for native american history was so long 80 pages per chp hard to stay concentrated
Yea if you hate history don't take him, there is a lot of reading to do in his class and he takes a long time to answer your emails and when he does he says "Your email must of not went through." Chill teacher but not the best
Overall Professor Ward is a pretty cool teacher we had weekly quizzes that you get 2 tries to take. Plus 4 page chapter summaries, although expect to read a lot and he is a tough grader, also just fyi he uses turnitin so it can make writing the chapter summaries a little more difficult.
Loved the class
Tough class but makes you work for it. The semester is laid out with a clear grading criteria. Four essays are due and discussions with five questions are due every Sunday. Participation in discussions is mamdatory.
Professor Ward is great! Sometimes his geeky passion for History and the fact that he looks just like John Denver can be off putting to some but he is very kind and helpful and knowledgeable! He does tend to go off on tangents in lectures but they are interesting. Test and essay answers are easily found in the text. He is an easy grader, and lenient
He definitely wants to help you get your degree and be prepared for going to university. His classes are definitely not boring but if you don't do the reading you can't bluff your way through. He is always available to help you and is kind and inspiring.
Hard grader and the online tests are difficult. There is a lot of reading Ina a short amount of time. I couldn't continue the class because I was getting overwhelmed.
He's pretty good. Responds to emails quickly and makes a good enviroment.
the online summer class is tough. there's a lot of reading and writing packed into 4 weeks. if you don't have time in your schedule to commit at least 6 hours a week, don't take it unless you're fine with a C. 4 open book quizzes and summary of 4 chapters due each week. no big tests, which is nice considering. not a fan of the textbook, tho not $$
Pretty difficult. We had 16 quizzes in this summer course and 16 chapyers to read and 16 essay type papers. He grades very difficult. I tried extemely hard on the papers and usually got 70%. The quizzes however were easy and could be taken multiple times.
Pretty awesome teacher. He replies to emailed pretty fast and gives you two chances on quizzes. He grades your Dropbox submission kinda hard but hey that's college. And this class prepared me properly for the rest of t.
Fantastic professor! Very caring and takes the time to explain grades to students. Always willing to help a student who may not understand. When taking this class I learned a lot and enjoyed myself. The final/tests were super straight forward because he gives you the questions in advance. Great professor!!!
To date, Michael Ward has been my favorite teacher in college, perhaps ever. Tests are all online and the essay portions are challenging, but not too difficult. His lectures are always very informative and he seemingly knows everything in history. If I had the chance to take more than the three classes he teaches I absolutely would. The Best.
I took this course online and found it to be very clearly laid out. Professor Ward put a lot of work into organizing powerpoints and material and clearly loves history. I would love to take an in-person class with him.
I love this professor. When I had my wisdom teeth taken out, I forgot to turn in a paper on time and he was so understanding and helpful. His classes are full of really interesting information, it isn't just the usual history class where it drones on. He really cares and is very interesting in his subject. I take Mr. Ward every chance I get!
I understand being a summer course the class is accelerated but this was much harder than any four week class I've ever taken. Every week we cover three chapters; which is no problem, except each chapter comes with a 2-4 page essay which means three a week on top of discussion questions and quizzes. Very essay heavy for a history course.
Professor Ward was a great teacher for my online summer course. Be ready to read a lot, but I truly enjoyed his class. His summer class definitely moves quickly because it is a 4 week class but if you stay on top of your work you'll be fine.
Mr. Ward is one of a kind, to be honest. Get ready to write a couple of essays, in the semester. Instead of him assigning book work every day, he gives us an essay, definitions, and an online exam to do. You will need the textbook to do all of those three, but you could look up the answers online as well.
Online class with 3 chapters every 2 weeks followed by discussions, quizs, & essays for each. Too much essays for a history class
One of the most inspirational professor at Ventura College. He has a great knowledge on the subject, understanding and caring with ALL students, no matter his level. His lectures are an absolute must, I didn't miss one! Absolutely available after class: a rare gem in the world of teaching.
Lectures are boring!! Only reason why I never missed a class was because of the participation points. Cool professor don't get me wrong but class is really boring! Many papers are required easy but be careful especially in history since its hard to change the history everything can be seem as plagiarism.
I'm a full time student at another University and just took this class to fulfill a GE credit. It was a semester class fit into 4 weeks so there was a lot of work, but Dr. Ward was super nice and gave great feedback. If you put effort into your work he'll give you great grades. I recommend him for any online History class. Great class overall!
Best professor at VC. He is so nice, organized and caring. His lectures are very interesting, you can feel his passion towards history! Hope to join his class again! Thumbs up for this professor.
The 4-week summer courses are expected to be challenging, but Professor Ward's online class is a lot of work, make sure you have time to write his 3-4 Essays each week. He definitely knows his stuff and is really prompt when it comes to replying to emails. He doesn't give any tests. The class is very organized, be prepared to work for your grade.
His lectures are boring unless you are a history major. The test is based on the powerpoint and the book. I didn't buy the book but you definitely need it if you want to get an A.
I understand with summer classes they go at a faster pace but the amount of work assigned was a bit insane. Every week we had to do discussion posts (answer 5 questions) for 3 chapters along with a quiz for each chapter as well as an essay for each. Honestly wouldnt recommend unless you need this class, only reason why I took it.
This was my first online class. Best and easiest class, no midterm or final. Lots of writing but the quizzes we're easy as well as the discussion post. definitely would take again
This is absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had. Right of the bat he accused me of plagiarism while my turn it in score was 7% and common terms like (and , it, the) were highlighted as copied. He knocked 20 points of my grade for this. Besides that he does not know how to use canvas and does not clearly explain assignments. NightMare.
Doctor Ward does not know how to use canvas , every single assignment comes with two misc. 0 point drop boxes and at least 3 duplicates of the assignment all with different due dates. When you ask or email him he states the due dates are on canvas and is not clear what drop box to submit to. Lectures are usually an hour and half of him talking.
Professor Ward's online class was a bad experience. No live lectures. It's all reading a textbook with tiny print and tons of information. You have to write a ton of essays every week and he grades those very hard. He gave no leeway for the pandemic and encouraged me to withdraw when I asked for more time. deeply disappointing. I don't recommend.
I took his summer technical writing class and it wasn't very hard. As long as you don't procrastinate, this class should be an easy A. The only "issue" I had was having to learn how to format papers in APA because that's the style he preferred. I would take again for sure!!
Dr. Ward is an expert in history, providing context to the framework material of the course with an engagement that brings life to the material. He encourages free-thinking and provides ample room for students to reflect about patterns in history. Dr. Ward structures online classes well, and grades fairly, providing feedback. Highly recommend!!
Each week you have to read a chapter, comment five posts on his discussion boards, and write a "essay/summary." He isn't a tough grader, but you need to participate in every "mandatory" assignment to receive a good amount of credit.
He tends to go off topic sometimes. One time while talking about the Articles of Confederation, he then started rambling on about the Great Depression. Also it's trying to get him to help you. If you email him, he would often take days just to answer back
His course is straightforward. Discussions, Quizes, Essays on current topic with questions you have to answer. Lots of work but not really hard. Answers are all in the textbook.
His grading style on discussion posts is VERY particular, even if he doesn't give us the rubric. There are 2 midterms and 1 final. Each midterm is split into 3 parts: multiple choice, describe, and essay. Worst class I ever took. I would not recommend.
would not take this professor again.
He doesn't give a rubric for grading.
no rubric. no clear grading style. would not recommend taking them.
Hard grader and the online tests are difficult. There is a lot of reading in a short amount of time.
He is really strict about grading discussions and tests but doesn't even give out the rubric to know what you're being graded on. I would not recommend him.
Reading is light for a history class. Essay, Quiz and discussions assigned for every chapter. Essays are overkill in my opinion. Professor Ward was very quick to get back to me, and walked me through anything I had questions on. Loved the content. Would take again, although I need a break after the eleven essays.
Dr. Ward is a true gem at VC. Lectures were very engaging and he welcomed feedback and comments. Class structure was organized, textbook use was balanced with the lectures and other assignments. Overall great experience and would easily recommend his class.
This professor is by far one of the best. I highly recommend everyone takes this course with him. I learned so much. He also leaves comments on all of your work letting you know what to improve on or telling you have excellent your writing was. The class has no quizzes, but every week you submit an mini essay to the discussion board. Go sign up!
Professor Ward is probably my favorite teacher ever. He is so passionate about history and he truly cares about his students. His lectures were optional but I still attended just because he is such a sweet and amazing teacher. He goes out of his way if any of his students need any kind of help. I would definitely recommend him!
As a history major myself, I absolutely loved taking his class! I would be happy to take him again and recommend him to everyone. Super easy, not too many assignments. He's incredibly passionate and intelligent. Make sure you read the book and pay attention to his lectures. Only a few unit tests that are part essay/multiple choice.
The workload sounds like a lot but you're given a week to complete it all which is pretty reasonable. Although the readings were long, the units are not cumulative so once you finish those chapters you never have to go back to them for the following weeks. The assignments were straightforward and he is not a tough grader as long as you show effort.
Dr. Ward is my favorite professor at this school. Even though this was an online class, I could tell he cares about his students through his weekly emails to the class. His grading criteria is clear and he leaves a sweet little note on every assignment, which is encouraging. Super easy class if you read thoughtfully and complete assignments timely
Hes so funny and I like how his powerpoints are well written. I like how you know what to expect since the first day of class! amazing teacher, would def take again!
Classes are just lecture and the only homework was reading. A few exams throughout the semester but they are fairly easy and he is a generous grader. Super chill dude as well. Classes can be boring but it's easy so I can't complain
The class was interesting and I like the professor, but he can assign A LOT of reading. If you wanted to read all of the material for certain modules it could take like half the day to finish it.
Best Prof for History. Exam's and discussions are easy as long as you read the sources he gives you. Gives good feed back, taking him again for next semester (:
Ward is a very great professor. The only downside is that he does not add rubric to the reading so you are not sure how's he grading it. Part of the class was unorganized in canvas but even so he is very considerate and a great professor.
I took Professor Wards 4 week online course and it was a wonderful class. Of course due to it being 4 weeks it was fast paced and a lot of work but it was a really fascinating course and he was very involved and gives great feedback on each assignment. Stay on track and follow each assignment prompts for success. I Highly recommend his class!
This class was nice and easy. As long as you do the work you will pass with an A. I failed history twice and passed with Professor Ward with a 98 percent.
Professor Ward takes his time to read each paragraph or essay turned in and write to you on how to make it better! This class I took online and it was super easy. I RECOMMEND GUYS!!!
Prof. Ward is one of the most genuine professors I have ever had. It is easy to tell from the first class that he is passionate about his job and that he cares about his students.
if you want a very easy A or a B highly recommend you take his class very sweet professor and will hear you out if you don't attend class that day! he will accommodate you within reason if needed. I remember I had to miss class because of the roads being flooded & I take the bus and he let me miss class for my safety:) His quizzes are fairly easy
Professor Ward is incredibly sweet, just loves to chat during lectures. Knows a lot about history as it's his passion, encourages students and is always available to help. No homework only tests, as long as you read the textbook which is available free online. Gives you clear feedback on tests just wants to make sure you understand the material.
Engaging lectures, but expect a heavy workload. Utilize Unstuck study and the free textbook to stay on track. Would recommend for students seeking a challenging yet rewarding history course.
Weekly discussion and readings and major writting assignments. easy grader. hes the sweetest I took him at csun made me enjoy California history. take him
His character is excellent, and he is more than willing to help you. The work itself isn't tricky. It's just text-heavy; I put the difficulty higher because of how much reading it is. Reading 20 pages a week is a must, sometimes more, to complete work on time. And he expects your responses and definitions to be nuanced.
Professor Ward is the best history professor I've ever had! He is very understanding if you miss a day or two. Assignments are clear and to the point. I would recommend this class to anyone who enjoys taking notes. I really enjoyed my spring semester with him and i hope to take another class by him soon.
The class and material itself was not hard at all but the work load OMG, felt like I spent hours doing one simple assignment! He assigned weekly discussion post that require a lot. It took me tons of time doing his assignments which took time form my other classes which shouldn't have especially for an elective.
Professor Ward is a good professor very chill and gives good feedback in the discussion posts and quiz and definition summaries.
Took his 4-week summer course online. You're expected to read around 80 pages (3 chapters) per week and then answer a 5-question discussion. There is also a weekly 2-part exam, the first part a multiple choice and the second part being a summary/definition of 4 words of your choosing. For full credit, you have to really elaborate and be specific.
Overall, easy to communicate with. Lots of reading and writing required. I took this over the summer so it was condensed and therefore seemed like a lot of work
I LOVE professor Ward!! He truly is the best history professor in Ventura College. I've taken 2 in person classes with him and he always makes lectures fun and interesting to go too. The assignments are clear and he is a very fair grader.
