I hate this class, but Professor Ware is a really good teacher. He tells a joke everyday in the middle of class, probably the worst jokes ever but he tries to make class fun. Very helpful and clear.
He's awesome! He uses good power point presentations, always tells a joke, and tries his best to make class interesting. I really enjoyed him as a teacher. He's funny, he's admittedly a science geek but very endearing and a great teacher. Makes this class memorable, even though it's a yucky general ed class!
Great Professor! He knows his stuff, and tries to make things fun for everyone. He's very clear and will help you if needed. I totally don't like the subject, but he made the class fun. The jokes wake you up if you're having trouble staying awake (during the more boring lectures especially).
Ware was a great teacher. He was funny and interesting to listen to. He always told jokes and had cool demos. The lab section was pointless, but you can't really get out of that. I also thought the texbook was really confusing. Pretty typical of a GE class, but Ware made it interesting, and even fun. I'd definately recommend him.
I absolutely loved going to the lectures. Ware was fun and the demos were helpful. The best demo was when he popped the balloons near the end of the semester, you'll understand when you see/hear it. I didn't do very well on the exams and I hated the textbook but I learned alot from the lectures and would definately recommend this professor.
Professor Ware makes a huge effort to make Physical Science interesting and fun even though the actual material is not. He tells jokes every day in class and does fun experiments. Once he came wearing a superman shirt and let a student shoot him in the chest with a ball launcher. I would recommend his class!
Ware is an excellent teacher! Lectures can seem boring at times, but he always has a joke ready to keep us awake. There is some reading, but the homework assignments are easy, especially if you go to lab. Take the exam at the beginning of the semester - it's exactly like the final, and it won't count against you!
Nice and funny guy, but if you don't like science there's no way you can get around a dull class. He was one of the best I attended, but requires you to read each chapter before you quiz every day. Where you really learn everything is in the lab, get a good T.A. and go to the lab!
Professor Ware is an excellent teacher. I have absolutley no interest in physical science but he does very well with making the class as fun as possible and makes himself available to the students. Homework is easy if you go to the TA Labs.
physical is not the most fun class in the world but Prof. Ware did a great job of making it entertaining. He always told jokes, tried to make it interesting and such. He is very helpful and nice and explains things well. You should definitely take this class from him.
Make sure you buy your clicker before the first day of class or else the bookstore will run out and Ware will dock you for it! This course is one where it's easy to get a B+ or A- but hard to get an A. You have to get 100% on everything but the exams if you want an A, which actually isn't too hard to do, but then you've got to get B's on the exams.
Prof. Ware explains everything absolutely crystal clear. He tells jokes in class, and makes the demonstrations a lot of fun. He explains the concepts perfectly and once you know them, the tests are a cinch.
I am not a big science person but I enjoyed this class for the most part, the joke half way through class was really nice : )
I really was not interested in the subject material but Professor Ware understands that it is general class you have to go through and tries to make the best of it for you. Homework is easy if you go to labs, test are difficult but doable if you study and prepare for them. He is very friendly and helpful and tries to alleviate boredom through jokes
Professor Ware is an excellent professor. Although I found physical science to be quite challenging, his lectures really helped with understanding difficult subjects. You can go to any TA's lecture. If possible, I recommend going to Chads. He is your key to the exams... (he sometimes gives you answers)
Overall, I thought this class was pretty difficult, but Professor Ware was one of the better teachers. He's organized and clear with lectures.
The professor is nice. He tries to keep everyone awake with his joke. But when it comes to the real stuff that you need to learn for exam. He speaks so soft. So weird!!! Besides, I have worst nightmare with my TA. He spends 15' of beginning class for:.....teaching Yoga post and talk about his study in Dinosaur. A good TA is essential to survive
Speaks in a monotone (often sans microphone), appears to just read from the text, and responds to questions incomprehensibly. He tries to keep the class roused with an occasional joke, but couldn't maintain most of the hall's attention. The tests were difficult, but the TAs and reviews were good. Still, I wouldn't recommend him.
Boring teacher. Speaks in monotone. Doesnt prepare before class and you can clearly tell. Just reads from the slides. Homework easy because you do it in lab. Tests are hard. I would take it from someone else.
Class was extremely dry. At times I noticed that a huge chunk of the 200 person class would be sleeping. The tests were tough because it was hard to know what we needed to study specifically. Avoid taking this class with Prof. Ware
The class was quite difficult. On the tests, you had to apply things you learned in class, so they were pretty hard. You learn a lot, though. His jokes were entertaining :)
He is a really fun teacher and I overall really enjoyed the class. He is good about showing real life application in class. The Tests are not too hard but not too easy. I would highly recommend going to class as well. Also the TA's are super helpful!
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Ware is very good at explaining concepts. It is a hard class, but he makes it fun and is always willing to help his students. I definitely recommend him!
This was a great class! Dr. Ware tells jokes in the middle of class, sometimes shows youtube videos, and has interesting experiments and toys that relate to the topics that help bring interest to the class. The TAs are really helpful in understand the homework. Their is a lot of work, and you spend a lot of time. So be prepared to work.
Not the most fun or easy class, but that is the department, not him. He is a funny nerdy guy and made a boring class more enjoyable.
He did a good job making the class pretty entertaining with jokes and such. He made concepts I had previously struggled with more bearable. For the most part his descriptions were pretty clear. The tests weren't too hard. They were a lot like the homework, only slightly harder. Not a bad class.
Lectures are mostly practicing problems and kinda hard to follow. Homework is time consuming. Textbook is difficult to learn from since it goes way in depth and is generally unclear. TAs: pretty helpful. I found searching internet/youtube for tutorials helpful. Berguson subbed on a review day and I thought he explained concepts more clearly.
The material really isn't very difficult. The textbook isn't too helpful, but reading it is required. For more intuitive topics, he explains them very well. But for stranger topics, his explanations seem to confuse people.
Enjoyable lecturer. I'd never taken physics before, and it's been two years since I did any math, but I still thought most of the material was well explained. The homework was time consuming, but that's 121, not Ware. It frustrated me that we didn't do a lot of practice. He'd work one problem on a topic and go on->no good way of studying for tests.
Ok this guy is a piece of work, seems very friendly and everything. The tests are off the wall hard, I got 100% on all of the homeworks but could only score close or below the class average on the tests. Really unfair, unclear questions (even to native speakers, how does he expect international student to understand?).
Let's be honest... who takes Physical Science and really wants to? Overall, it's just a G.E. you have to get over with. Dr. Ware makes it a little more bearable but I just don't like the things we learned. He tells a joke in the middle of every class and gives you answers to all the quizzes... Just get a good T.A. who can help with explaining!
Every day he asks if we've read the textbook before class and if we have we get points. The in-class quizes were super easy because he would help the entire class get the right answers. Halfway through lecture he stops to tell a joke. Your TA grades all HW and your essay questions on tests so it depends on how hard the TA grades.
Professor Ware was helpful at describing the material and he actually cared about his students. Some of the concepts get pretty confusing, but TAs and Professor Ware can help with this.
I'm glad I took 2 years of physics before this, because he was useless in explaining concepts. Half the stuff he says, he contradicts later. The textbook and TA's in the ESC are better teachers
Dr. Ware is fantastic. This is a difficult class. Not impossible by any means, but it requires work. Dr. Ware does an excellent job of helping otherwise hard-to-understand concepts stick. And he's hilarious. Love this man!
I had a physics class before taking this one. This class is very difficult and hard to understand if you don't have a good background in physics. The professor is funny and tries to explain everything fairly well but the majority of your learning will come from the homework due twice a week. Get to know the TA Help lab.
He is amazing. Lectures are clear and interesting. Go to your labs, his TAs are super helpful and you will learn a lot from them. They are always available to help and are well trained in explaining difficult concepts.
Great professor! I didn't go to him for help with material bc my TA was amazing, so the TA lab is helpful. Easy quizzes, fair tests, no projects of any kind. Don't skip lab, you get to finish all of your homework in there and go over the topics that are tricky. Take this over chemistry if you have the choice. Take notes and you are golden.
Dr. Ware is a pretty good guy, jokes at halftime, but made mistakes with math and even variables mixed up in lectures, which is not good when you're trying to follow along. More or less clear, most of your time best spent in TA lab 2x a week doing the HW, which takes some time but is pretty easy. Straightforward, especially with TA help. Overall OK
Classes are super boring and hard to stay awake. Posts slides online so just study them before the test. The test are easy but have a few tricky questions. Pretty easy A
Class isn't too bad if you do the readings and take the daily quizzes. T.A.'s seem to be super helpful too.
He's good at explaining concepts. Not a very hard class, I wouldn't mind taking other classes from him if I was into science. He's interesting and nice.
Pro Ware was great! He always started class with a prayer and tried to relate to spiritual topics. GO TO THE TA TEST REVIEWS! They are essential! Go to class! There are iClicker quizzes everyday but he gives you the answer if you just attend. His lectures were long, but he tried to make them as interesting as possible. His slides are posted online.
Dr. Ware is such a nice guy, and although he isn't the most interesting lecturer in the world, if you pay attention you will learn a lot. 90% is an A, they drop like 8 in class quizzes, 4 homework assignments, and as long as you read you should be fine. Homework assignments every week that TAs help with.
Ware lectures and goes over the reading the night before. If you read the textbook and attend class, you'll pass. The TA's are the one who grades and can really save your grade before a test with their reviews. He drops like 5 quiz grades which is very nice
Usually, we have a few worksheets and an essay but nothing that can't be completed in the lab sessions. Make sure you read the chapters and take the quizzes. Also, expect cool demonstrations.
The description for this class makes it sound like it's an overview of tons of different kinds of sciences, but really it's pretty much only physics and chem. Dr. Ware is funny and does his best to make the topic interesting. Tests are tricky because the lectures are basic info but the tests expect you to know the topic deeper. iClicker attendance.
Come to class to participate in the iclicker quizzes, go to the TA reviews they really help, and a ton of the lowest scores are dropped overall. 4 tests + final. TAs give all the answers in labs for homework. Dr. Ware shares a goofy joke halfway through every class (:
Professor Ware was great! Although his jokes were very cheesy (and he knew it too), he was always lively and easy to understand. Class was basically just the textbook chapters regurgitated onto powerpoint slides, which he posted online. He was able to explain some hard concepts clearly. Pretty easy stuff if you study, just lots of tests.
great guy. Really funny and entertaining.
Dr. Ware is very funny and entertaining! However, his classes are very lecture based, and since I wasn't a science person, I found his PS100 class difficult. Most people did not, but I'd recommend him still; great professor and always willing to help. I used the TA lab more though!
Great professor, he knows his stuff. The homework is very challenging, and the exams are weighted quite heavily.
He is an okay teacher. His class requires much more than BYU's standard 2 hours work outside of class for every 1 in class. Students have to do most of the learning on their own. If you are good at math/science, especially if you took an AP physics class, the work isn't too hard, it just takes an excessive and unnecessary amount of time and energy.
Dr. Ware is a great professor and guy. The class is really difficult, in my opinion too difficult. I had taken AP physics in high school and knew a lot of the stuff, but the homework would still take hours and the tests can be really tricky. Great guy, I like his jokes, but the class is very difficult.
Dr. Ware cares about students understanding the concepts. He doesn't have any office hours but he stays after class to answer questions. He tells jokes halfway through lecture because he realizes that people are falling asleep. The class is a typical Physics class so don't expect it to be easy but it is definitely possible to get a good grade.
Great teacher, but one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. I loved learned about the concepts but struggled a bit with all the equations and formulas.
Don't buy the book. They have them in the physics tutorial lab (where you should always do your homework). The labs are dumb just find a group (on learning suite messages) to do them with and they will be easy. The lectures were interesting (live demonstrations). Overall, the class was tough but I learned a LOT.
This is the step by step guide to how to get an A in Dr. Ware's class: Step 1. Learn to teach yourself physics, because only about 20% of what is covered in lecture ends up on the test. Be prepared to see a whole bunch of stuff you never learned in lecture on the tests, and to spend hours on homework that is often not related to the tests either
So, the homework for this class is unnecessarily long. It took me 3 hours for each assignment (two a week) because of the weird grading rubric when it would have taken me 1-1.5 hours otherwise. Both the homework and tests are very difficult, but luckily there's a heavy curve so my 85.6% in the class turned into an A-, so I can't complain much .
Ware is really a great professor! He wants you to succeed and structures the class in a way that you really learn the material. It was definitely not an easy class, there is a lot of homework and it takes a lot of time, but he is really a great professor. I highly recommend him!
Great teacher and had his curriculum well organized. In the middle of class he takes a break and tells a joke every class which is great. He knows what he is doing.
Dr. Ware teaches physics in an intuitive way. He would prepare a set of jokes for every class to keep us awake halfway through class.
He's good. Fair tests. Just make sure you take your time to think them through. Competent guy, his jokes were fun. The class is easy enough to get an A.
This class takes a lot of work but he does a good job of explaining things and making class interesting.
Dr. Ware is a great teacher, but the homework and tests are tough. You have to be able to combine the concepts he teaches in class in order to do the problems correctly. Hes extremely helpful though, and is willing to meet after class to help.
I took this class my first semester, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I managed to scrape a B, but that was after tons of studying and outside work. The homework was difficult and time consuming, almost never took me less than an hour per assignment. A really cool guy, but his lectures are confusing at best. Wouldn't take again.
This class was hard for freshmen and people who hadn't had much math. I wasn't in that boat, but it was still too much busy work. I was somewhat interested in the subject material, but Dr. Ware had a patronizing teaching style that rubbed me the wrong way. Lecture attendance was required, for the grade, at least. He had some good jokes and demos.
Dr. Ware assigns labs on your own time, reading assignments, and time-intensive homework. On average, I spent 10-12 hours per week outside of class. Lectures are mediocre at best. Sometimes his examples are helpful, but I found a lot more luck with the textbook and the TA lab (the TA lab is the best!). Tests and grading are very fair.
He's a good teacher and knows what he's talking about. He's very entertaining in class and is a friendly guy. He has us use on free online textbook because he didn't want his 500+ students each semester to be spending hundreds each, which is great. He does have us take exams twice a month, as he says it has helped raise his student's grades.
Two reading quizzes, two homework assignments, and a lab due every week. Also 6 exams, which is kind of nice because they take less than an hour and there isnt much material covered. Class itself gets pretty old after a while, its structured exactly the same every time, and its mostly practice problems. He doesnt do too much of explaining.
I love Dr. Ware. He really cares about his students. If you don't like to work hard then chances are you will not like this class. Many of the reviews on here are because people don't appreciate the workload and the class is hard. However, he makes the material interesting and tells hilarious jokes
He is a really good teacher. He is really nice and does jokes everyday to keep you engaged since it is a long lecture. You do have to spend a lot of time in the physics lab doing homework.
Dr. Ware is a really nice guy. He really does care about us, but he doesn't have the best teaching style. It is pretty much spend a lot of time outside of class reading a textbook that might as well be written in a different language, then coming to class and going over very simple problems and concepts, then having ridiculously hard homework.
I stopped doing the readings because professor Ware explains concepts better. He tells jokes halfway through class which helped me stay awake. His tests were very predictable based on homework and problems done in class.
His teaching style isn't my favorite, but I suggest finding a group at the beginning of the semester so you can study and do homework together. There is tons of homework. If you haven't taken a physics class before , like I hadn't, the class is going to be pretty difficult. The tests were challenging for me at the beginning, but you get used to it.
Great teacher! Teaching style made me actually love physics. Tells jokes in class to help keep you awake and he does plenty of example problems. Homework is hard and long but really helps with all the tests.
The way he explained things did not make sense a lot of the time. A lot of work for a 3 credit class (2 homeworks, 2 quizzes, 1 lab every week, midterm every other week) Subsequently, the tests did not affect grade as much since there were so many. Overall good.
Good guy, tells jokes every lecture, is clear & organized with the semester's assignments, good at drilling concepts into your head in a simple manner. Like with any weed out STEM class, if you put in the work, you can do very well in his class. I took 4 years of physics in High School but now I feel like I've understood physics for the first time.
Worst class at BYU. There was so much work including a ton of homework that is graded in the most ridiculous way. 6 midterms and a final worth a combined 70% of your grade. Lectures were mediocre and a waste of time because the tests and homework were way harder than anything in class. Textbook was free but confusing. Most stressful class I've had.
Schedule of work is very specific and repetitive, easy to schedule but there is a LOT. 6 exams during semester make 40% of grade, and the final is another 30%. Enough EC to boost your grade by 1-2% but not much more. Not available much. Not great at explaining concepts if you don't get them right away. Online textbook used but it is free. Funny.
Lectures sometimes felt pretty confusing and pointless. You'll really need the internet to learn a lot of the concepts. His lectures were alright because he always stopped halfway through for a break to tell lame jokes that were so bad they were funny.
A LOT of work for a 3 credit class. Homework assignments would take up to a couple of hours, which in addition to the walk-in labs and SIX midterms was a big workload. However, all of this work will teach you the physics concepts well (better than lectures will). Lectures are pretty solid, the highlight being he tells a quality joke every lecture.
Easily harder than any other class I've taken. I have a (somewhat diminished) level of confidence that I'm not an idiot, but this class killed me. I spent at least 15 hours a week on homework, not counting the SIX EXAMS we had to take over the semester. If you have no previous physics experience like me, get ready for your worst semester.
So this class was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Dr. Ware is fine, but he sometimes doesn't cover everything in lectures because "you will learn when you do the homework." (Or in my case struggle through the homework for three hours at least each assignment.) If you need to take the class, just live in the TA lab and you should be ok.
Dr. Ware is a fantastic professor! The homework is a lot harder than lecture practice problems so you have to really work to understand it. The tests are a bit easier though, the TA lab is a big help for the homework. Lectures are entertaining and really helpful. Spent about 12-15 hours a week outside of class. Exams basically every other week.
There's lots of homework in this class, but none of it was busywork and was all necessary in order to cover the concepts. Dr Ware is a clear and concise professor who gives you exactly what you need in order to do well in the class. His lectures were very useful to me and I felt like I learned every class. He also tells daily jokes which is fun.
Interesting and funny lectures. We had tests like every other week. Even though lectures were long for TTh, they were made enjoyable. Beware of the final, you should really know your stuff.
By now you've read that he's a hard teacher and there's a lot of homework. True, but you NEED to take Dr. Ware. Here's why: you're probably an engineering or CS major, and he will prepare you for your major. If you plan on taking ME101 later, Dr. Ware will have you totally ready after taking 121 from him. Also, he curved our tests and final grade.
A lot of work for the class, which is typical. Make use of the tutorial lab and study groups! Dr. Ware cares about his students and will provide you with the information and resources for you to pass! Attendance quizzes in class, one test dropped, and 2 homework assignments a week with a slight curve. Very straightforward!
Dr. Ware is one of the least "help the students" oriented teachers I have had in my 3-year career at BYU. His test questions were unclear, and he refuses to give students points back even when their work is right, just not done "his way." I would never take a class from him ever again.
This class took so much time away from my other classes. There are 6 midterms and 1 final. He drops one midterm which is nice and will sometimes curve it but that means there were only 4 classes between each test. Be prepared to spend 20 hours a week on this class.
Dr. Ware really cares about all of his students. The class is really hard, with 6 midterms and a final. Be ready to learn fast, a lot of material is covered quickly and not really reviewed. Dr. Ware is a great guy, he did a wonderful job teaching the class. I wouldn't take the class again, but I would take a class from Dr. Ware again in the future.
Dr. Ware does his best to cover the information required by the various departments who influence this course. That being said, this course is unnecessarily difficult for a 100 series, and requires you to spend exuberant hours outside of the class room studying the material. On top of all that, this course has six midterms and one final.
What I have to say: 6 midterms, 15 hours a week dedicated to this class, and a Venn diagram where the circles don't overlap. (To explain the last one, lectures have nothing to do with what's on the homework and tests.) Dr. Ware is nice enough but a little boring and hard to follow. This class isn't structured very well.
Physics 121 is completely doable. Just make good use of the TA lab. 6 midterms are a lot but one of them will get dropped and if you understand the homework, then the tests shouldnt surprise you. Lectures can be really dry but Dr. Ware is a nice guy and he always posts his slides which is super helpful.
Physics 121 is not as bad as people hype it up to be. There will be a point where you don't understand something on the homework because there wasn't enough class time to go over it, and that's where you go to the TA lab. Dr. Ware was a pretty good teacher, some of the content can get kind of dry, which is why he tells a joke every class.
I spent about 11 hours a week on this class. The homework is long, and there are tests every other week. That being said, the TA lab is a blessing, and it's easy to find people to help you understand the material. At least one grade out of every category is dropped-I ended up just skipping one of the labs. Lots of work, but you do learn a lot.
I personally didn't like Dr. Ware as a professor. He is a pretty good guy, but really hard to learn from. Almost everything I learned from this class I taught my self using outside resources. He was hard to contact and didn't work well with students who had accomadations. I also felt the homework and in class work did not prepare me for the tests.
Dr. Ware is actually the best. He's hilarious, and he does a really good job of teaching and structuring class well. The way homework done seems like a lot of work (and it does take a while), but it works to make sure you understand the material. At least 100x better than my high school physics prof.
Dr. Ware is a great teacher of a very hard subject. His lectures are organized and focus on the important concepts. The biggest key to success in his class was in working through, learning from, and practicing the homework problems. They were time consuming but very effective at facilitating learning. Use the TA lab. There are actual labs too.
Dr. Ware was my favorite professor this semester. He is hilarious, covers all material, has amazing lectures that are very engaging and drops lots of hints. This was my hardest class but as long as you do the homework you're fine (the TA lab is an amazing place).
Dr. Ware had potential to be a good professor, but he made his class way too hard. He would purposely leave things out of the lecture so that the students had to figure it out on their own. Very frustrating. Tests were very difficult. The only reason I did well was because the TA's had mercy and basically tutored me every day after class.
He is a nice guy but expects students to figure a lot out on their own. Many kinds of problems aren't explained in lectures but students are expected to complete them on homework and tests. He also struggles with organization so be prepared to deal with that
Oh my goodness, this guy is hard to recommend. I've never seen a professor so uninterested in their subject and so ready to fall asleep during a lecture. The class is mostly made of up tests full of questions that are poorly worded and based on stuff not taught. It is doable, but don't expect the professor or TA's to be of any help at all.
Prof Ware has potential. I know a lot of people love him, but he might not be for you. He is a very dry lecturer and makes you learn most of the info on your own and kind of helps you out after it. Honestly the TA's are what got me through that class, my TA was amazing and helped a lot.
Professor Ware was an okay professor, when he explains things its pretty hit and miss as to when he explains it clearly (They are fairly complex subjects though). My main beef with this class is that he requires a lot of writing on the homework. He require a picture, naming all the variables, and a written explanation for literally every problem.
Professor Ware is insanely smart and he does very complicated things in the Physics world, so it's sometimes hard for him to get back down to the basics. But, he is really cool and nice. Kind of a dilf.
All of the homeworks had nothing to do with what he taught in class. He would only teach us for 40 minutes twice a week and then he let the TAs do everything else. He could care less if the students were understanding the material or not.
Sounds like Manny from Ice Age.
Professor Ware is super nice and funny, the material is challenging but if you put in enough work you can get an understanding down.
I took his "intro" to Newtonian physics class right after my mission. The class was extremely difficult for me but for kids that are math and physics protegies, it was a breeze. His teaching was confusing and you can't get things explained well because there are 500 kids in the class. You have to have the TAs teach you basically everything
Professor Ware was great and very funny. Its just a super hard class. You have 6 midterms(one is dropped) and 1 Final exam. For homework, you will have to do problems online and then write out how you did it very thoroughly and then submit that with your online homework. Great professor, just tough class, but does a great job teaching concepts.
Professor Ware runs a really hard class, but it is more of the classes fault than his own. The workload is high but it needs to be in order to truly understand the material. He clearly knows physics well and is really good at teaching it. This was definitely my hardest class this semester, but overall he was a good professor. He has good jokes too.
Professor Ware takes a very difficult subject for an introductory class and makes it interesting and digestible. I would never say this class was easy, but whenever I was confused about something, I knew that I could count on his lectures to answer my questions. He makes difficult concepts comprehensible and tries to make the class enjoyable.
He runs a flipped classroom, which I don't vibe with super well personally. But he does give a lot of practice problems and resources, so that was nice. The midterms every other week got to be very exhausting, probably my least favorite part about the class. He tells jokes every lecture which is fun.
Dr. Ware was pretty good, he explained things well, typically gave a break in the middle of class, and had interesting demonstrations. My biggest complaint is that this year he did this weird flipped class teaching style. I think this might have been his first year doing it, and hopefully he doesn't do it again next year, but good other than that.
Dr. Ware was very good at teaching the material. He gave a significant amount of homework but in the end it was good practice for exams. Some of the homework questions are difficult so the tutorial lab is a great resource. Overall Dr. Ware teaches well and provides a ton of practice and opportunities to succeed.
Actual content can be a little hard to understand but he explains it really well with plenty of examples. And TA Labs are a life saver!
He made the class wayyy harder than it had to be. He was also very monotone and I could never get through a full lecture without zoning out for a while. He also doesn't really explain the concepts very well and I relied on the TA reviews to understand the material before the exams. There's also 4 midterms for this class.
I do not feel like he prepares students well for tests. His lectures were very boring and he gave extra information that you don't need to know for the test. I had to rely on myself, the textbook, and TAs to really learn the material.
Professor Ware was fine, I felt like he knew his stuff and was able to teach in a clear way. It's not his fault, but this course is the busiest GE I've ever taken, and I felt like its workload was not at all consistent with a 3 credit class. If possible I would really recommend against PHYS 100 to fulfill this specific GE.
Nice guy but I had a hard time understanding in class because he moves quickly. There are a LOT of assignments to do and a lot of the class time was used to talk to someone you were sitting by. There are in class assignments, lessons you do before class, weekly labs and essays, and exams. Luckily you're allowed a note sheet on the exams.
Professor Ware is an average teacher. He isn't uninteresting but the lectures were pretty repetitive of the reading. Professor Lawler writes fairly easy tests, attend TA's reviews before the tests and use your note sheet and you'll do fine. It mostly depends on your TA's whether the class is easy or not but most of them were pretty good.
He's a decent professor. This was just a GE class so nothing special. Just get ready to spend a lot of time reading the textbook. You go to class three times a week, so that's three chapters per week. Thankfully we get cheat sheets on the tests.
You can tell he really likes teaching this class! The lectures were a little boring and hard to follow, but attendance was pretty mandatory since we had in class assignments each time. All of the homework was easy, we have five tries to get each question right so you can get 100% on basically all of those. Just get ready for the 4 midterms!
This is a hard class, you are expected of a lot. However, you will learn so many things. If you do the readings and spend time studying, you will be just fine in the class, but be prepared to work. Going to class really emphasizes the readings and you will physically see experiments done. Go to class and the TA lab, it will help.
Just okay. Nice guy and okay lectures, but honestly the TAs and the course administrator kinda run the class. They're the ones who answer emails and know exactly what's on the test. I had to study a lot for the class but thought it was super interesting still. TA reviews and lab saved my butt repeatedly. Tests every three weeks.
Definitely take PHYS100 from him. He goes over all the material on the tests in the lectures, so you won't be surprised by anything as long as you go over the lecture slides when reviewing. There was an essay and lab either every week or every other week. There's also four exams and the final, but if you review with the TAs, it's not too bad.
Professor Ware's PHYS100 class has a decent workload, but engaging with the material and using study aids like unstuck AI can really help. Attend lectures, review with TAs, and you'll likely do well despite the challenging exams.
I'm not a science guy, but the professor did a really good job of explaining concepts. There are assignments done in class, each class, so you're going to want to show up. But he does go through each question and you get a couple of attempts at each answering. So you're bound to get 100% on those so long as you show up and do them.
The words "I don't even know what is on my tests" should be a good sign to never take a class from him. It doesn't matter if you read the book, go to lectures, or do well on quizzes and assignments. Absolutely nothing he teaches is on the test. Do yourself a favor and take the class from anyone else.
I thought he was a good professor that cared about the class. Honestly, it doesn't really matter what professor you get because the TAs are your saving grace in this class. It's a lot of work, but I never read the textbook and just watched the review videos instead. GO TO THE TA REVIEW BEFORE EACH TEST that will save your grade.
I didn't like this class, but Prof. Ware was a good teacher, funny and made the boring class somewhat engaging. The class has lots of reading but I felt like the concepts never really passed highschool level.
Great teacher and honestly a super easy class! Do the homework and you should be fine on the tests and classwork. You can bring a page of notes into the tests so its super nice. Amazing teacher definetly would take again!
To be honest, I didn't find Ware's lectures particularly helpful because he tends to cover a lot of material in each class, which can be overwhelming. I gave a lot of time to this class throughout the week, but most of my understanding came from attending the TA lab. If you ask the TAs for help with the material, you'll do well.
Professor Ware is a great teacher. His lessons recapped/expanded on the assigned textbook readings. There are 4 tests throughout the semesters coinciding with 4 units, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, and Astronomy. Make SURE you go to the TA reviews because they clarify what is actually on the test. Review/STUDY the TA slides and you should be good!
Dr. Ware's lectures are awesome and are easily the highlight of the class. Beware that he moves very fast through his slideshows. You will need to read pretty much the entire textbook and there will be a lot of out of class assignments.
All the physical science classes get the same criteria and class set up, but the class is hard. Dr. Ware can't really help that, but he does do the best he can. Really though, what got me through the class was amazing ta's. Really take advantage of those ta hours and lab.
Most genuine dude ever! Such a family man. In fact, during the semester, I would jump in and go to other lectures of the same course with friends and boy, glad to have Michael Ware as my professor. He teaches so much clearer as compared to the rest of the professors. Even though the content is heavy, he is the best professor to get the job done.
Dr Ware is amazing! This class is hard, but he made it fun!
Lectures felt rushed and some problems left unfinished. I learned more from the TA labs than from class. The textbook was pretty bad, and the fast pace made it hard to follow along. It often felt like we were covering material without enough time to actually understand it. I would recommend taking this class from a different professor.
Ware is a great teacher, and I enjoyed the lectures. The biggest problem was the structure of the class; it's not on learningsuite or canvas so you almost forget to do the homework. The homework was a pain, as you had to work out problems on paper and were graded on how well you showed your work instead of how well you actually did physics.
When I expressed I was worried about my grade after receiving a bad score on a brutal midterm and not understanding the content, I was told "just do good on the final and you'll be fine". The sheer amount of complexity and requirements on the homework caused more stress than actually helping learning. He did tell funny jokes in the middle of class.
Professor Ware is great! The class was really organized & leaves room for a few absences. His lectures are mostly engaging & fun with lots of physical demonstrations that help you visualize the material. There are 4 midterms and a final, but not too bad if you study and go to the TA review sessions and lab throughout the year. He loves physics!
