Makes lectures really fun!
I took his intro to Anthropology class, he was a great presenter and the class was really interesting, the hardest part of the class was all the reading, DON'T FALL BEHIND, you will seriously have to read 100 pages to catch up!
Professor Wesch is awesome. He explores ideas about culture and life that you don't usually hear in Kansas and seems to be more focused on what the students get out of the class rather than the points. Plus, he shakes his butt to J Lo in one of the lectures! Can't beat that.
WOW! Talk about an exciting class. He taught and entertained at the same time. Lectures were easy to remember due to all his "performances." Plus he had alot of interesting and useful information to share with us! Great teacher!
I didn't think I'd get in to Anthropology but Wesch is an awesome prof.-- one of my favorite classes @ kstate
Great lectures. Funny guy. Great ideas.
His lectures are always entertaining and you learn a lot in the class.
He's an awesome teacher and his lectures are really interesting. I like it when he talks about his experiences in New Guinea.
I really liked him as a teacher and yes he was very entertaining, but you have to do this world simulation in the class that really sucks. Plus you're in groups with 16 other students and it's really hard to communicate with that many people.
Tons of fun! My favorite class.
Awesome teacher, could do a little more reviewing for the testes
Professor Wesch is by far the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are fun and engaging, and his passion for the subject is evident. He is funny and entertaining, and easily weaves humor into his classes, while at the same time ensuring that you actually understand the concepts. Great job.
He's a great teacher! If you didn't know about or like cultural anthropology before you then you'll enjoy this class. He's always there to help and always willing to share about his own experiences. I really apprecitate the visuals he give us in class!
oh boy
You can tell he loves what he does. One of the best profs at kstate, hands down.
The BEST teacher I've had at K-State. Take any class you can from him.
Excellent communicator! Uses lots of media, videos, etc. to teach. Makes things memorable. Listens to students and uses and values their input.
AWESOME!!! By far my favorite class I have taken at K-State. He made it so fun and interesting. I actually looked forward to going to class (and it was 8:30 am). Take this class if you can, you won't regret it!
we laughed, we cried, we learned about headhunters and cannibals and college students and stuff. Make him wear his anthro costumes and recite poetry...
I loved this class but hated the group work. Avoid if you hate group work even more than I do, but for me the great lectures outweighed the elementary activities we did afterward. Great, great, great teacher.
Wonderful prof, wonderful class. Wesch is a funny, intriquing person and his lectures are fun. The World Simulation activity at the end of the class is really really fun. Very eccentric teaching style. Don't beleive me? He showed a naked pic of himself the first day of class, from a feild study he did!
He was a fun professor and really willing to help. A power outage knocked out my alarm and I slept through a test once and he let me take it the next day without docking any points! We had alot of reading in the book, but it was really interesting.
great professor! Really cares about his students and what he's teaching.
Wesch is AMAZING!!!
His class took a lot of work, but it was unlike any class I've ever taken before. Highly recommend this professor!
Honestly, the best professor I've ever had. He is incredibly intelligent and really cares about teaching his students. I urge everyone to take this class
Awesome teacher, you could really tell he had the passion for what he was teaching. It was a very interestion class and never boring. He made the class really fun.
He is awesome! He is the coolest teacher you will ever have! He has done a lot of amazing things, and he makes this class extremely interesting. This is the best class I have EVER taken!
Prof Wesch made lecture interesting, even at 8:30 in the morning on Monday. I loved this class and everyone should take it, even if its not required of your major. It really makes you think differently
Really awesome teacher! Had to do some reading and keep up on stuff, but learned a lot, it was interesting, and the tests weren't very hard.
LOVED THIS GUY!
He was such an amazing teacher. For me... it makes such a difference in how much the teacher appears to be enjoying himself. Wesch clearly loves what he does and is really excited about teaching the information to us. He is very passionate and it makes his students interested.
Prof Wesch was one of the best teachers I've ever had. Because of his Cultural Anthropology class, I'm an Anthropology major now. I am very happy that I took his class my freshman year because it opened my eyes to what I had available to me for a career. Thank you Professor!
Great teacher, interesting lectutes. The World Simulation sucks, but the class is worth taking.
HE IS THE SHIZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
AMAZING
Dr. Wesch is a great professor and truly cares about his students. I learned so much from taking his Cultural Anthropology class, he made it so interesting and engaging.
great teacher and great class. you're missing out if you don't take it!
This class changed my life!!
Great teacher, very into his material and wanted students to learn it. Great class for all students to take.
He is awesome! Makes having class at 8:30 in the morning suck WAY less.
It's a great class for freshman, but the mandatory attendance is ridicules. I have an A in the class and was recently informed that it's really a B because I don't make it to every class. Punishing students because they don't fulfill one's ego stroking requirement is unfair. But the class is easy and the worldsim isn't as dumb as you think it'll b
This is the best class I have EVER taken! It wasn't very hard and it was interesting, which made me want to learn the material. It was one of those classes where he makes it easy to apply what you learn to your life, not just one where you memorize facts for a test. If you have the opportunity to take this class with him I recommend it!
Dr. Wesch was a very good instructor. His lectures were always fun and interesting, and he presented the course material in a great way. I took cultural anthropology with him, and it changed the way I looked at a lot of things in life. But for being a gen. ed class, he expects you to put in a lot of time and effort, so don't slack.
His lectures were very effective, fun, and interesting. For a gen. ed class though, he expects a lot of effort, so don't slack off.
One of the best teachers at kstate. His lectures are always entertaining. Somewhat of an easy a as long as your willing to participate and study. I'd recommend this class to anyone whether it was for their major or not.
The way he teaches his classes is THE best template for how all other instructors should teach theirs! I have NEVER had a better professor than Dr. Michael Wesch.(By the way, he has his own Wikipedia article. Look him up!)
Great Teacher, pay attention and make sure you put effort into big projects.
Simply amazing. There is nothing more to say about Professor Wesch. Seriously. He's SO AWESOME.
Professor Wesch is great at what he does and makes what he teaches relate to real-life. I recommend ANTH 212 for anyone who needs a Gen-Ed class. Get the book because he puts a few of the exams online so a book is helpful. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Prof. Wesch made it enjoyable going to class in a topic I knew little about. He is very passionate about the subject, has new and creative ideas. I only used the textbook for the online quizzes. You MUST go to class or watch the taped lectures online to do well. I just attended class, payed attention (never studied) and got an easy 94%
Wesch was a great teacher! He was willing to meet my class one on one if we were struggling with the material. He grades fair and you actually want to learn/be there for his class. He makes it interesting and fun. I am def. taking this professor again!
He is a very good professor!
He's a great professor that really knows his stuff. Loves teaching and he somehow made it so you want to go to class.
I thoroughly enjoyed attending Wesch's lectures. I did not enjoy the recitation class, because I felt as though most of what I needed to hear was already covered in his lectures. He was very engaging, and I enjoyed his stories and lectures a lot. He doesn't give a lot of feedback on assignments, but your TA will.
lectures are entertaining, for the most part. attendance is taken daily. final project is really difficult. NOT AN EASY A.
One of the most renown professors at KSU and for good reason! I've never been so inspired by a class before, resulting in my shift to Anthropology. Seriously, go to office hours and just talk to the guy, it's a good time. I seriously have prodded all of my friends to take this class. The work is worth it! More than just a class, but an eye opener.
Professor Wesch is the most inspirational person that I have met so far at KSU. He is so passionate about his work that it is impossible, as a student in his class, not to feel passionate as well. I enjoyed every single lecture that I went to! He is my favorite teacher that I've ever had. I definitely recommend this class to everyone.
He was very hyped up, so I was a little disappointed when I took the class. The material was not very memorable and he usually just showed pictures and told stories from his mission trips. The group project portion was very time consuming and I didn't take much away from it. Overall, good teacher just slightly boring material.
Best class I will probably ever take at Kansas State University with the BEST professor. He wants us to learn things in class that will make us better people who live more passionate lives and he is doing just that. I frequently am sharing things from class with family and friends. I recommend this class with Professor Wesch to everyone. So great!
Haven't finished the semester yet but for anyone considering taking this next semester i strongly suggest it. His lectures are very interesting and make you leave the classroom with a new perspective. The experiments changed my outlook on many different things. I never thought i'd like anthropology but Wesch is a great professor!
I thought I would hate this class, anthropology didn't interest me at all. It turned out to be my favorite class, mostly because of Wesch.
This is the best class I have ever taken. His lectures are so interesting, insightful, and inspiring. I got so much more out of this class than I ever thought i would. TAKE THIS CLASS. He changed the way i look at the world and i guarantee you will be heavily impacted by this course.
This class was SO easy. Wesch makes it less structured around working for a grade and more so the students get the most out of it. Lectures are super interesting and inspirational. Only problem is the obnoxious social experiments in recitation.
The class was easy overall but you have to be present because every lecture is on the test. The tests are simple questions and stated in his lectures but not always on his powerpoints. His powerpoints consist of bullet points that you need to write down for points in the recitation. Also, you have to do all the readings to get full points.
Dr. Wesch is an amazing professor. Very easy class, yet I have gotten more out of it than any other class I've taken. He truly cares about his students, and wants them to learn.
Best professor at KSU. Easy. I love this class
Awesome professor. Lectures are extremely inspirational. I personally never skipped a single class and really got a lot out of it. Even if you have no interest in Anthropology his class is beneficial. I would recommend it to all first years at K-State.
Professor Wesch's presentations are awesome and I really enjoyed class. However, sometimes it felt like Professor Wesch thought he was so amazing that he wouldn't really give students the time of day if they spoke to him. I went to speak to him about one of his lectures that I LOVED and he wouldn't give me the time of day, frustrating.
He was very interesting and inspirational, I felt like I got to know him on a personal level and there were hundreds in the class. He will not turn away anyone for help. I was actually excited to go to his 8:30 class every morning, and I am not a morning person.
Dr. Wesch is an absolute gift to K-State. Take his Intro to Cultural Anthropology if you have the chance. You'll give him a standing ovation by semester's end. I promise.
I was really disappointed with this class. It's supposed to prepare you for the capstone, Anth 602, and it does not. Dr. Wesch is inspirational to a fault - if you want to learn, you're on your own. Explanations and assignments were vague. After taking his class, I'm not sure why he's so widely respected.
Dr. Wesch is widely respected in the anthro world. He knows what he is talking about for sure. If you are a structured learner you will not get this class. If you can think deeply, you will get along fine in this class. You will have to put more work into this class than you think. All in all Dr. Wesch is a great professor and is always helpful.
He is an interesting teacher. I mean I had difficulties and he really did do more than he was required to do but this is not an easy class. Lecture is really important you need to go to every class to know what is going on. You really have to understand to get through the long assignments.I would have not taken this class if I knew.
ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS I HAVE EVER HAD. His lectures are meaningful, well thought out, and will lead you to think differently. He truly cares about this world, this class, this university, this city, and us as students--it is evident. He brings examples from his personal life to illustrate some concepts, but also shows relations from the world.
Best class I have ever taken. I will always remember the life lessons I learned in this class. Hopefully you get a good TA for your recitation, I didn't. Show up to class because it's really interesting. Takes little work to do well in this class just listen and participate in the challenges. You'll get what you want out of this class. Wonderful!
I took the online version of ANTH200 which had tons of students, so I understand he uses TA's for most of the work and grading. But I have an issue with a Sophomore TA grading my work when I'm a 2nd degree Senior. There is no interaction with Dr. Wesch. The textbook he wrote for the class is basically an autobiography of his life and achievements.
I would recommend this class to everyone! Through this class I gained a whole new way of thinking and am able to better empathize and understand the people around me. The most challenging part of this class is doing deep thinking and reflection on your life and actions.
This guy changed my whole perspective on the world, take his class, you won't regret it
Dr. Wesch is popular for a reason. His lectures are phenomenal and he's a good guy. I recommend his ANTH 204 class to everyone. However, as an anthropology major, I feel cheated. His classes are more self-help and focus on his life philosophies rather than actual anthropological concepts. They're included minimally. All of his classes are the same.
Professor Wesch knows his subject inside and out. Attend every lecture and you will do fine on the tests. Overall ANTH204 was an interesting topic and the lectures were incredibly well-planned.
As long as you do your work and listen during lectures you will be fine! Really awesome teacher!!
This is for ANTH 301. This class is supposed to prepare you for your future. It does not. There is no content to this class, and it is all about him. I cannot believe this is mandatory in Anth. I almost change my mayor because of this class. If I could get my money back that would be fair. I don't understand why others respect him.
It was a good class to take, I learned a lot and Wesch is a cool guy and a great teacher, but it is textbook heavy so be ready to read.
Wesch is such an involved lecturer. He hadn't picks his TA's and is involved in their lives and his students. I got incredibly sick halfway through the semester and missed half of a huge project, Wesch let me start over. His class is a lot of his personal history, but you will always leave a lecture knowing something you'll always carry with you.
Amazing teacher. Had no idea what Anthropology was going into this class. Was recommended on a whim. I am looking at taking some of his other classes now, even though they dont fit my major. The use of his own website, video lectures, and "modernness" to the class make it feel very familiar. Im not sure why some people may not like the teacher...
I took his intro to religion class, and i loved it!!! best class ive taken at KSU. i also had him for intro to cultural anthropology and he was a great professor in that class too. definitely take anth 204
He puts a lot of effort into the lectures and makes them interesting for the students. Attendance can be made up easily if lectures are missed.
I went into this world religions class thinking Dr. Wesch would be the most amazing teacher I've had at KSU thus far. I was wrong. Attendance is worth almost 1/4 of your grade; other than that theres only 3 projects and 4 tests. He lectures on a LOT of material that isn't very cohesive. Frankly, I was let down by this class.
Lectures were always interesting and made me want to go to them. The tests are multiple choice but those are hard for me and I got C's on all of them. The homework is Instagram posts, pretty easy points there.
I took this class as a requirement for another class, and I loved it. Dr. Wesch made me want to go to class because of his lectures, plus the attendance policy. The tests are all multiple choice. You will be fine if you go over the review sheet and go to the lectures. I would definitely take his class again and I recommend it to everyone.
This class is so good and Dr. Wesch is hilarious and always puts TONS of effort into his lectures. Currently in ANTH 204 and it's my favorite class I've taken!!! Take it you won't regret it
Favorite class! So interesting and engaging
I took this class as a requirement for my education major. It was awesome! It was religion in culture, and we focused on one religion per week, up to two weeks on one. I decided to change my major due to Prof Wesch and his class. I would highly recommend his classes!
He keeps it entertaining and makes you think. Graded by 3 tests, a final paper, worksheets, and multiple challenges throughout the semester. Reading the book helped with tests A LOT.
An amazing professor. His lectures were worth getting there 10 minutes early to sit up close. Very well respected guy, the only way to fail is to not engage.
Great teacher
Took 200 online, and was surprised by depth of class. This is not an easy A- it takes work and introspection to get your A, but what you get back is incredible. Life changing is cliche, but the point of the class is to break down your preconceived notions and grow from it. If ANTH was available online I would have switched majors after this class.
Dr. Wesch is absolutely OBSESSED with what he teaches and wants you to be too. I am half way done with his class (which is all online this semester) and I am suffering. The modules in Canvas are soul crushing. On average there are 12+ things in each module to read/watch. And he isn't even in the videos (sometimes 60+ minutes). WishICouldWriteMore..
Wesch creates wonderful, engaging video lectures and provides materials with a variety of perspectives which allow for a well-rounded understanding of major religions and their problems. The grade consists of weekly discussion boards and a quiz, along with a few papers- all which are graded kindly. He is a must have as a professor at K-State.
I took this class thinking I wanted to add an ANTH minor, and this class completely drove me away from it. While Prof Wesch is a great guy and clearly cares, he only ever talks about his trips and the textbook is his so... It's an easy class but I have learned absolutely nothing and I watch all the lectures and participate. Wish I could write more.
Classes like this make me appreciate coming to KSU. Wesch is very enthusiastic, and his 204 course is great. Wesch also thrives in the online format of the pandemic age as digital ethnography / videography is his bread and butter.
Dr. Wesch is absolutely an amazing teacher! Even if you aren't required to take this class it is well worth your time! He has so many awesome adventures to talk to his students about. This class really challenged me to be my best self and to approach situations differently than I have in the past.
Wesch is hands down one of the most interesting staff members at KSU. His lectures are so interesting. I had a friend who was not even in the class but would come with me sometimes just because the lectures were so amazing. The exams were not too strenuous but my TA for the class was a weirdo. Definitely worth your time though!
Only class I've ever looked forward to going to. I saw a review that said they didn't learn anything -- they must not have put an ounce of effort into this class. Even if you do not do home work, the lectures are PACKED with interesting information. This class made me want to major in anthropology. An easy class with amazing info. Best class ever.
I don't like the subject at all, but Wesch is a really good professor. He has great stories to tell and he works hard to make his lectures new for each course (sometimes he'd be making the presentation the morning of the class because current history is changing so fast. It wasn't even a procrastination thing, he was just on it). great dude!
Lectures are pretty interesting then recitations are there to help complete your weekly challenges. Attendance is required for recitation but not lectures. That being said, if you don't go to the lectures, you won't pass!! Dr. Wesch is super cool, though, and has great stories + very passionate on the subject!!
The best class and professor I've had at K-State by far. It literally changed my life. Go to lectures and pay attention and you'll get an A. The material is so interesting and beautifully put together. It is never just a slideshow you have to listen to him talk through. I never missed this class because I never wanted to miss it.
This class has been my favorite class I've ever taken. Dr. Wesch's passion for his work really shines through and is very inspiring. He also is heavily invested in his students and challenges them to think about not just the coursework, but life in new ways. I loved this class so much I ended up TAing for it as well.
Professor Wesch is the best professor I have ever had. It is an amazing class, and I was not interested in it in the slightest coming into the semester but was very intrigued and actually looked forward to taking notes over every lecture. He is one of the most caring people and has dedicated his life to this very field.
Dr. Wesch is such a good teacher. This class was inspiring and fascinating.
Professor Wesch is a really good speaker, but something about his class irritated me. The way he mainly talked about his travels and his experiences like a TED talk throughout the whole class gave off a manner of narcissism. You can tell you is trying to inspire, but sometimes it felt like he was trying to push his worldview.
He is very inspirational, but spent a lot of time talking about his own travel experiences. His teaching was mostly through story telling and having homework be related to doing things out in the real world, there was not really any text-book learning at all. I felt like I didn't learn too much, but I got new perspectives on the world.
Professor Wesch has a unique teaching style - part TED talk, part worldview exploration. While it may not resonate with everyone, his lectures are captivating. Attendance is a must, and study tools like Unstuckstudy can complement the textbook well.
I think Dr. Wesch is very inspirational, and made learning easy and enjoyable. I liked his lecture videos, and his homework was easy and fun. I don't have many complaints about the course or him. I think it was a very thorough introductory course, and I know that I took away a lot from what I've learned.
I took Anthropology in my last semester at K-State. It was my first time having Dr. Wesch as a professor, and the only regret I have is that I didn't take it sooner. I would argue that he is the most thoughtful, engaging professor in the entire University. I came to class eager to listen to his inspiring stories of global and cultural importance.
I did not think Micheal Wesch was necessarily a bad professor or a bad grader or anything, but I feel like I didn't learn anything of value because he spends 80% of the time talking about himself and his experiences. Like I honestly felt like this was less of a class and more of a personal podcast.
I took World Religions with Dr.Wesch, and all I can say is WOW. Great professor, very passionate about what he does, and truly cares about the students. If you do what you're supposed to, this class is not bad. Does take a little bit of time to get modules done, but you will learn some great practices that will be useful for the rest of your life.
