Just finished the first exam, and it was rough. Lectures are so scattered, difficult to understand, and have NOTHING to do with the textbook/learning objectives. Dr. Wilson is infuriating as he laughs at students' confusion. He wants to emphasize "understanding" of the material with no effort to properly teach it. Take anyone else if possible.
Expectations are both high and unclear. Exam I was a bumpy start to what looks to be a poor planned semester.
When your TAs don't even know how to help you in the class, you know you're screwed. We get hit with tons of info with very little guidance on what to emphasize. His office hours are useless too. He doesn't communicate with the TA's either and even they don't seem to understand some of the concepts as their micro classes were way less challenging.
He laughs at students' confusion and complaints about the structure. Is not clear cut about what to focus on for the exam. He doesn't care about his students and their inability to understand him. He is overly passionate about microbiology to the point he forgets he is teaching an undergraduate class. DO NOT TAKE HIM
On worksheets, quizzes, and exams, he often asks questions he didn't cover in class, aren't on the materials provided, and you were not told to seek info out on. No drops. Incompetent professor, thinks he's the first application-based course for THIRD YEAR stem students when in reality 50% of the application Q's are niche knowledge questions.
Content covered and tests given just don't correlate. TAs seem poorly prepared and unsupported. He's new to UT, so I suppose we can also blame the people who hired him for such a messy semester
Please don't take his class if you're interested in microbiology!!! You will spend the whole semester stressing over the seemingly random pieces of information he mentions but doesn't teach that make up most of the exam. Industry veteran with some interesting stories, but he WILL ruin this course for you!
DO NOT TAKE!! Wilson was the worst decision of the semester, as he overloads students with assignments irrelevant to his exams. After the first exam, he dismissed students' complaints and stated, "I hear you, but I'm not listening." All of the TAs are confused and can't help students because he makes the class unnecessarily challenging. AVOID HIM!!
Take quite literally anyone else if possible. He is easily the worst professor I have taken at UT. He acts like he's teaching microbiology to graduate students and thinks everyone has an incredible amount of time to pick up on the minute details he mentions in lectures. I greatly regret taking this class and hope others don't get stuck with him lol
He is the shabbir of the ut bio department, his exams are unreasonable and do not directly align with lecture, tons of busy work with minute details that were barely covered in lecture
If you take Dr. Wilson prepare to memorize 300+ slides for each exam. If you haven't taken biochem, good luck.
makes microbio 10X harder than other professors. exams are extremely hard and dense. doesn't provide clear study materials and is vague when we ask him what to study. exam questions are written badly. does not reply to my emails. one of the worst professors at UT. talks about himself all the time and doesn't care about students at all.
He's awful. I am a senior and this is the worst professor I've had at UT.
An actual irresponsible professor. Skims over stuff in class and harps on random topics that don't show up on the exam. When asked if he ever mentioned a topic that is asked on the quizzes in class, he always says he said it to one of the three class periods or that it was prior knowledge.
Genuinely the worst professor I've ever had at UT. I have had a few bad professors, but at least they were open to feedback and could make their expectations known. After students emailed him for the first exam, Wilson spent an entire class (which could've been devoted to lecturing) defending himself. He incorporated none of the students'
he simply doesn't care about his students' success. way too much information is rambled to us during lecture, he goes on frequent tangents, talks about himself 90% of the time, and we have to read textbook for hw that is not relevant to the exams. I am just so confused about the unclear class structure and he makes micro much harder than need be.
Had slides that were 60+ and went through about 10 of those slides but expected you to know everything else from the slides he didn't go through. Had terrible communication, would tell students to study one thing and another group of students to study another. Exams are impossible to pass unless you devote your entire time to the class itself.
sigh... just obscure class with obscure expectations..
just finished the second exam and it might have honestly been worse than the first. wilson actually doesn't listen to any feedback. 100% the wrong choice for microbio, don't take this man.
I really like Dr. Wilson. He's by far my favorite professor this semester. He's a fantastic lecturer who is passionate and super knowledgeable about the material. He incorporates case studies into the class and other short stories which make the material feel more meaningful. He also includes tidbits of his own research and personal life.
This class is hard, but Dr. Wilson is super kind
Ya'll are actually playing with these 5 star reviews...This class is extremely difficult and it stems from the fact that there is a lack of clarity in his expectations. Him dedicating a class to our complaints and saying, "Yeah idc sorry," is actually a real thing that happened and I really hope you do yourself a favor and take someone else.
He is a bad lecturer and the exams are made up of everything we don't learn. I genuinely have no idea how to be successful in this class because everyone does bad and he barely curves or anything.
Possibly the worst professor I've had which sucks because he seems like a nice guy. The exams are extremely difficult and require so much knowledge that we aren't taught but are expected to know. Half the time the TAs don't even know what's going on and have apologized for how hard he makes the class. The other micro classes are nothing like this.
If you're taking micro bc it's required, wait another semester and take someone else. Only take if you wanna be a microbiologist, but even then expect a trial by fire with the hardest bio class you'll have taken so far. Tests cover "applications" but really cover obscure knowledge he didn't cover in lecture.
Teacher does not use learning objectives or listen to feedback. Expects us to know 250+ slides. HW and readings do not help with the exam. The slides are not well written. Introduces random class assignments we have not learned. TAs are confused by the class expectations. Exam average below passing and expect to memorize unnecessary details.
Nice guy but tests are impossible. Not clear on what is testable material and test questions are extremely complex. Would stay away from this class cause it will hurt your GPA
Do not take this class with Dr. Wilson if you can help it. There are other professors at this school that are much better at teaching microbiology. He is a nice guy but he is so bad at lecturing and it is so unclear what is going to be on the test.
His exams are very difficult and cover materials that were only taught in his office hour. His homework and quizzes are not representative of his exams. He does very little curving. Exams cover a lot of content but he does not provide topics that should focus on when preparing for exam. Do not expect test grade to represent your level of knowledge.
The lectures are not well organized and there is a bunch of information that you have to understand (He also skips slides, so it is hard to know what to focus on). Homework and quizzes do not reflect what will be tested on. Exams are extremely difficult and do not represent what you need to know in the learning objectives. Find another professor.
I honestly cannot describe how awful this professor is. I have taken some terrible professors while at UT but this man is honestly something else. He barely pretends to actually care about us and really just wants to keep lowering students' grades to make his average look decent as a new professor.
He is a kind person but the course is absolutely awful. The workload is ridiculous that it seems he forgets that we have other classes that also require our time and effort. It is impossible to do well; 4 exams with no drops, constant HW and in class assignments, quizzes, group projects. Very defeating class structure, its unbearable.
The lectures do not cover all of the material, so there is a lot of self-studying. There are quizzes, homework, readings, and random extra assignments assigned each week. Slides are ALWAYS skipped in lecture, and students are expected to learn everything on their own. Tests cover material outside of class and are unreasonably detailed.
The WORST professor I've ever had. He makes micro incredibly difficult when it shouldn't be. The TAs have no idea how to answer questions because the exam content is so incredibly difficult. I have never struggled as much as I am now. Please take ANYONE else. I wish I waited another semester to take microbio instead. He will TANK your gpa
His RMP at TXST gave me high hopes, but his first sem. at UT ends up being poorly planned, lectures are scattered, and tests are substantially more difficult compared to the content taught in lecture or in homework. He doesn't take students' criticism into account as much as he should, considering an unfair majority of the class probably struggles.
This class makes learning stressful. I came into the class excited about the course, and now feel defeated, demotivated, and unheard, because nothing was changed based on our feedback and poor performance. I wish I could have liked this class and/or took a different microbiology class.
Please beware this professor. The textbook assignments are entirely useless and his exams have questions irrelevant to the lectures and reviews he himself posts. I genuinely can't recommend this class to anyone. Study hard and memorize everything you possible can. I'm so sorry if you have to take this class you have my condolences.
The structure of the class is difficult to follow. You learn so much material, only for the exam to not represent what you studied & the wording is confusing. Other microbio professors have clearer class structures. The lecture slides are so dense & he skips over so many slides, saying that it should be review. He doesn't take criticism seriously.
Why did most people at Texas State recommend him, and at UT he's uniformly hated? Did he come to Austin and decide he wants start torturing people?! Anyway, everything everyone is saying is true. Busywork- endless. Tests- impossible. Response to feedback- ambivalent. Path to a good grade- complete mystery. Hours out of class needed per week- 20??
Dr. Wilson is the worst professor I have ever had at UT. Exams are nearly impossible, especially given that he skips lecture slides in class and assumes we will just magically know the material come exam day. It sucks, because he makes a bio elective feel worse than a weed out class - avoid him at all costs if you enjoy being mentally healthy!
Worst professor in all of UT austin and maybe the world tests are impossible WTF!!!
If the sheer amount of criticism you've read so far isn't enough, here's my take. This professor provides a plethora of information through lecture slides and busy-work that would seemingly be indicative of what would be on the tests. Wrong, there is no way to study for these exams and he doesn't respond to feedback nor keep TA's in loop. Beware…
I took this class for one day and dropped it because he was the worst teacher I have ever seen. His expectations were absolutely unreasonable and his teaching style was terrible. I have never seen a professor that is more terrible and hated than him.
Listen to everybody else and do not take this class. The tests are impossible and he is all over the place in his lectures and skips 3/4 of the material that shows up on the tests. There is no way to study everything and the TA's don't even know the answers to his test questions.
Dr. Wilson's microbio class will not be easy, but this is my favorite class I've taken at UT. The class is a lot of work, but the topic is super interesting and the homework is meant to cushion your grade. Pay attention to the case studies and go to office hours! Get to know Dr. Wilson, he's amazing!
Dr. Wilson is a very kind professor and he is super passionate about teaching and microbiology. He assigns readings due the day of lecture - If you do the readings, it makes lecture much more comprehensible. I find his lectures helpful, everything he lectures about will be on the exam so it gives me an idea of what topics to study more in-depth.
Dr. Wilson makes his exams extremely difficult. It is stressful and has ruined my interest for microbiology. Exam 2 average was a 58. He's a nice guy, but the main reason why his RMP is so low is because of the difficulty of his exams. Make exams easier and remove all the busy work (the smartbooks) and people will enjoy your class more.
Avoid him if possible and take with Partridge. The exams are insanely difficult and the difficulty of the class is unfair compared to Partridge.
completely unrealistic expectations in my opinion. i attend class, do the homework, study on top of that, and still cant pass the exams. its very difficult to figure out what we're supposed to study or focus on because he wont tell you. tons of small assignments too that are time consuming and dont even really help your grade or learning
With it being Dr. Wilson's first semester at UT, he was receptive to student feedback and implemented changes immediately. First exams were challenging, but he made changes, curved, and midterms are 30% of final grade. In addition, if you go to TA study sessions you get extra credit. Lectures and case studies are entertaining. He is a cool guy.
His first two exams were really difficult and stressful, but he was able to adjust his third exam so it was a normal difficulty. He assigns HW/smartbooks which don't help w/ the course at all, and are busy work. He also doesn't skip over slides as much as he used to. It's good to see that he's changed the way this course is based off our feedback.
Solid class, solid professor. Nothing to write home about, but certainly I have no complaints.
Dr. Wilson is a decent professor, but his class is a mixed bag. the first exams were really stressful, and there's a lot of busy work that doesn't feel helpful. It's not the worst class
I really have enjoyed this class. Dr. Wilson is a good lecturer and he cares. The exams, which everyone has complained about, account for a very small portion of your semester grade (30%), and they actually weren't that hard. With or without the generous curve I've gotten an A on all three....
While this class was difficult and I didn't do great in it, I did enjoy and have learned a lot. I would take it again with Dr. Wilson. He's a good professor and very caring. I would recommend reading the textbook if you can.
Units/exams were super content-dense and tested on tiny details. He tried to give us a group project to save our grades, but instructions were extremely vague and even he didn't know what he wanted when asked. He generally didn't seem to be sure what his expectations of students were except "high". He also made up curves/points recovery on the go.
Prof is nice, caring, and receptive to feedback. First unit was rough, it's his his first sem here after all. He listened to feedback and exams got easier. There's a lot of HW, but they are easy completion grades. A LOT of content slides, but sometimes he'll cut them if we don't get through them. Final project is easy enough, TA-graded. 1.6% EC
Maybe he'll be better in the future, but this semester was NOT it.
Each exam has a lot of content, especially unit 1 (so much memorization) but it's not hard to get an A overall in the class because its only 10% of grade and there's a 10ish point curve each exam. Slides are directly pulled from textbook, so you don't really need to read textbook besides for completion assignments. End-of-semester project isn't bad
The concepts are not hard to understand at all, but the sheer amount of content can be hard to memorize. Everything on the exams is found in the lecture slides (few exceptions, but he removed questions + curved). I've gotten >100 on all 3 exams. Prof and TAs are caring for students. He just needs to fix content distribution because unit 1 was hefty
His first semester at UT, but hes taught for years before this. The difficulty and misalignment of exams to what is covered in class is just not acceptable. Curving and extra credit is just slapped on top to try and makeup. My grade recovered slightly. My stress levels never will.
Microbio is a difficult subject, but Dr. Wilson did a great job of highlighting how applicable it is. He is super accessible outside of class and always willing to answer questions. Seeing as it was his first semester at UT, there are certainly still some edits to be made to tests/assignments, however he was very receptive to feedback and curved.
Professor Wilson's exams did not correlate at all with the lecture material. During lecture, he skips around slides and different powerpoints and makes it difficult for students to follow along with their notes. Busy work assigned in homework, smartbooks, and quizzes have no connection to exams.
From a senior, while Dr. Wilson may seem caring and kind, he expects too much from students with ALOT of unnecessary busy work and exams being too difficult. His lectures are dense and not helpful. He made some changes, but the changes were not drastic enough to give higher than a 2, trust me there are way better more structured professors at UT.
The beginning of the semester was a rough start as his exams were really difficult and didn't correlate at all with the homework, smartbooks, or quizzes we had to do (a LOT of busy work). He made good changes for exam 3 and did take our feedback, however, which is why he's getting a 3. Hopefully next semester will be a lot better for him.
Wilson's first semester was rough. Exams were major examples of such. I would say such were unreasonable in their difficulty and that 326R under Wilson was 1 of the most busywork filled classes I've taken thus far. Said Busywork did not help on exams. Drop before exam 3 so he may have improved in the final stretch. Still, I do not recommend him.
He's a good guy, but this class is genuinely worse than ochem, physics, or genetics combined. It is soooo lecture heavy, and when I read the material, I genuinely do not know what is important or not. His exams are extremely specific, and he does not let you see your exams afterwards, but the final is composed of past exam questions.
Insanely difficult professor. TAKE ANYONE ELSE. He doesn't lecture and makes exams so hard to the point where the TAs can't answer exam questions. He will tank your gpa and he will not care. Absolutely horrible and I wished I had dropped when I had the chance.
learned a lot at the expense of my sanity.
A million slides and tests were basically impossible to study for. If you are already not to great at biology, get ready to cry.
Dr. Wilson definitely has passion for teaching, but he made his class way too difficult. For the first two midterms, the question were very detailed and lecture based, so I would recommend watching the lectures again instead of reading the textbooks. It is doable, but you would have to dedicate a lot of time just to understand one lecture.
Dr. Wilson is a super nice guy and this was his first semester teaching at UT. However, his class was much more difficult than needed. I think he came into UT intending to make his class harder for a "smarter school" and it didn't go as planned. Exam averages were consistently high 60s-low 70s. I think he will improve as time passes. Good EC.
Absolutely horrible. Take someone else and save yourself. His exams are impossible and he doesn't care.
Rough in the beginning; however, he eased up and the class got way easier around exam 2. I feel that most people were exaggerating about the difficulty given that we are at UT and wanting to go to med school...
Hard transition for him into UT. Very difficult, and lecture-heavy first two exams, but eased up for the last midterm and final. He is a passionate microbio professor, but while he tries to figure out his lecturing here at UT, find someone else. A lot of busy-work that's not helpful. Perhaps his future classes will not be experimental like this one
My favorite professor at UT. His class was hard but honestly he listened to feedback and provided study guides for the exams. A difficult class but it's UT what do people expect. It's not impossible to do well. Go to OH, talk to TAs, & to him. He is very nice, approachable, and accommodating! you will be fine if you take his class :)
Class was on the tougher side, but doable. He was receptive to student's complaints about niche exams (first exam was unfair, but there was an overall improvement on following exams) and a nice guy in general. Grade is cushioned by lots of HW that are easy 100s, but its a bit time consuming and not helpful at all. Review his slides for exams.
You will have to put in a lot of work in order to do well. It's not impossible, but review the slides, attend office hours, review TopHat, and in-class work. The beginning of the semester was really rough for this professor, but it's getting better since he's getting more feedback and you do learn a lot.
The first 2 exams were not at all representative of the material taught. However, he did address student concerns and made the last exam and final fair. Despite this, there was a lot of grade cushioning with hw and attendance.
Started out rough, but he was receptive to student feedback and improved the class. Lectures improved over time as well, and the inclusion of relevant case studies was cool. Lots of busywork but it helps to cushion your grade, as exams are only worth 46%. Somewhat stressful this semester, but I learned a lot. I have high hopes for future classes.
Horrible class do not take!
Dr. Wilson was not a good lecturer, and I would not go to class if he did not make them mandatory. His exams were really difficult, and he assigned too much busy work. Take partridge or anyone else if you want to learn even a little bit of microbiology
Honestly a sweet man passionate about microbio. Exams were initially hard, but I went to every office hour and got As on exams because he emphasized important points in OH. If you review lecture slides in great detail and ATTEND OH (!) this class = very doable. Listens to student complains. More you see him in OH, you realize he's just a sweet guy.
Honestly, super nice guy. Not the best lecturer, but got better over the semester. Tests were hard but got easier. Super accessible and accommodating - he's very passionate about what he teaches. If the class was less material, it would be great!
i loved his class! he has improved a lot since last semester. his lecturing is good and the exams are an accurate reflection of the class. there is a lot of content, so you cannot just half ass it and get an comfy A. put in the work, and you will be just fine. he throws out exam questions if he notices a trend of incorrect answers- so very fair imo
Dr. Wilson was one of my favorite professors here at UT he cares about his students and will answer any questions you have during the lectures. Topics for exams can be a bit blurry but he does try to emphasize what will be tested.
Had to take this prof after I couldn't get into Partridge. Was scared from the ratings, but this man deserves better. Lectures can be a bit disorganized, but he's aware of that and gives plenty of extra credit and curves to adjust. He clearly cares about the topic and is very passionate. He takes feedback really well and makes a really fun class.
Genuinely one of the nicest and most fun professors I have had here. Exams can be tricky, but he gives practice and they are very doable. Get to know him in class and in office hours, he is incredibly welcoming and fun to chat with. Wish I spoke with him more over the semester tbh
Dr. Wilson's great, he's def fixed Fall '24 issues. 60% of grade from 5 exams (including final) w/ 1 drop, pretty large amount of busywork. Very funny guy with a lot of interesting stories, although sometimes the sheer amount of content forced him to speed through slides. Exam Qs were pretty specific, but worst questions were often thrown out.
Big fan—I've learned more in this class than I have in any of the prerequisite biology courses. The course is still probably harder than Dr. Partridge's, but if you attend class (for TopHat) and study for the tests, you'll be alright.
He's funny and keeps class interesting, but the lectures can be hard to follow. There are a lot of assignments, and they don't really help with the exams. The tests are tough and require a lot of memorization. I mostly went to class for the participation points.
All the bad reviews are from his first semester after transferring here, but he took students' criticism and made it way more manageable. Overall well organized and enthusiastic. Class isn't easy but its no worse than any other upper div bio. If you want easy classes pick a different major.
Many people Q dropped out of this class but I decided to stay. Unfortunately the class never got better. Dr. Wilson is a great guy- super nice and funny. But the class is so difficult to study for and the material is hardly narrowed down. Test questions can be difficult and lectures are not helpful. There is Instapoll for a grade every class.
lots to do and little awareness of what i should know
Please disregard all the bad comments. If you were able to make it through biochem and genetics, this class is a piece of cake. Just make sure to study the PowerPoints and case studies, and you will be fine. Dr. Wilson truly cares about his students doing well, so he adjusts exam grades to reflect their difficulty.
Never in my college career have I met a professor who seems to enjoy his students' misery as much as Wilson enjoys ours. Lectures are unreasonably dense; rarely do I even grasp anything from attending. I only even go now to fill out mandatory TopHats. Exams are written to confuse- you really gotta be on top of the material to do even slightly well.
Took genetics and biochem and can you tell this class was not a “piece of cake”. He is not organized, he had two days of lecture material covered in one day and rather than move the test he chose the lecture before to cram it into one day and ran through it. When students asked if he could move it since it was halloweekend he laughed in their face.
I took his class over the summer and I really enjoyed it. I was able to dedicate a lot of time to the course so my experience may be different from others, but I found Dr. Wilson was quite pleasant and helpful.
Lets be clear, he's a nice guy and seems well intentioned. The class is interesting for the most part. But the structure of the class needs work, content needs focus, and the timing/pace of things needs rethinking. Anyone giving 5 is crazy, as is anyone giving a 1.
I liked Dr. Wilson's class, he seemed to actually care about the content he was teaching and he was super accessible in and after class. His lectures can be a bit boring though...
Class is honestly nowhere as bad as people say it is. I found him to be a great lecturer that I could understand very well. He is also a great person outside of class. Most of the complaints are due to the heavy slide content on each test. But if you just study throughout the weeks and don't procrastinate, high A's on tests are very easily doable.
Dr. Wilson genuinely cares about his students and adjusts exam grades based on difficulty. He's approachable and fun to talk to. Try to go to his office hours, I wish I had gone more. TAs are very helpful and great at clarifying questions. Tough class, exams require a lot of memorization, many students Q-drop too, but it's definitely doable.
Professor is a nice guy. Unfortunately nice guy does not equal good professor. Tests are ridiculous and practice questions have nothing to do with exams. He expects students to teach themselves half the unit every unit, but then asks insanely difficult questions. I've never had a professor or class that makes me feel stupid and incapable until now.
Nice teacher; hard class. I know it's a hard subject, but the lectures don't really improve your understanding of the material. He knows his stuff, but could structure the class better. I learn more from reading the textbooks than from his videos/lectures. And the test questions are so hard! You'll need to study a lot, both before and after class.
Lectures can be long and wordy. The exams are very specific so you have to know absolutely everything there is to know about microbiology. Quizzes are weekly but online and open note at your own time. One partner project that was pretty simple. Just so much information to learn (NOT JUST MEMORIZE)
Dr Wilson is the GOAT, tests are easy, case studies are interesting, and lectures are fun. Class went by fast every day cause its interesting.
class isn't too bad. if you focus on the lectures and go to office hours (which are extra credit), you will do well in this class. using all your resources (textbook, office hours, wilson himself, etc.) will allow you to do the best. wilson (MY GOAT) is chill but he lowkey kept on talking about his butt and diarrhea.
The tests were honestly self-explanatory for the most part. If you take the time to study the learning objectives and slides, the questions themselves aren't that tricky. You definitely need to take time to study more so than other biology classes. The information was genuinely interesting and Michael Wilson actually has a genuine interest.
This class was taught very well, cool prof, easy exams, extra credit. Idk how anyone wouldnt get above a 97 in this class if you try.
Lowkey if you can't do well in this class, you should just give up on the MCAT. So many whiners in the GroupMe about how Wilson won't move the test for Halloweekend. Just don't get blackout drunk and study XD. UwU
TA's are straight baddies and class was dope
Dr. Wilson is a very kind professor and passionate about Microbio. Case studies and lectures are very interesting if you are interested in medicine. Exams are all multiple choice and reflective of content covered in class. The UGCAs and Grad TA were very helpful and responsive. For an upper level div bio course, this is very doable to get an A in.
pretty hard class but i did alright i think
Dr.Wilson is the most genuine professor ever!! He never fails to make me laugh. He truly cares for his students. Please dont be scared away from taking him. You would be missing out on an amazing professor and great lecturer. Yes.. you need to study and work hard to do good but its like that for any upper division class.
Very sweet guy but I feel that he lectures a level above what most people can digest. They can be very dense and feel like he is just talking at you but you can definitely be successful with lots of studying. This class covers a ton of material but you can do it!
Professor Wilson is a nice guy and clearly passionate about microbiology, however I felt his lectures were overly detailed and difficult to follow. He tends to skip over slides which you are expected to review at home, making it confusing to be sure what content is important for exams. There are study sessions and TopHat points for extra credit.
This class is VERY content heavy so I recommend only taking it with a lighter course load or just locking in. I recommend studying a week in advance for each exam since theres so much content. TA sessions are extra credit so definitely attend even though they're not the most helpful depending on which ones you attend. Carol is the goat!
Definitely not 2.5 bad, but this class will require a generational lock in. You can't get behind on material and have to be studying consistently each week. He's such a nice funny guy though and great to chat with
a lot of content, can get overwhelming as expected for upper div bio class. I recommend going to all the TA discussions and classes as they all have extra credit. 1 group project that's easy and weekly take home quizzes, also easy. Hardest part is the exams: 45+ multiple choice and trickyyy wording. Read carefully.
If you are not working full time while you are in school, you have no reason to not pass this class. I struggled a lot because it was hard to manage my time carefully. Also, see Dr. Wilson personally if you can. Tests can be tricky, and it is important to review each exam right after taking it. Take another prof if you are looking for a perfect A.
The 5s are crazy. Theres a good/interesting course in here somewhere, its just buried under not needed details and busywork.
Class was harder than expected bc it was ALOT of content and he skimmed through it. Method is to watch his mini lectures, read ppts, and take notes BEFORE lecture & just listen/absorb info during actual lecture. GO TO STUDY SESSIONS. They help a lot and are extra credit. Exams are hard so study a lot. DO EVER IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENT, its on the exams.
Wilson is definitely a difficult prof. Tests are not hard in terms of concepts, but coverer lots of material. I usually had to study 20+ hours for each. Lectures are interesting despite the amount of content, and Wilson is approachable/welcoming in office hours. Don't be afraid to take over Partridge. One group project and EC pts, ended with an A
Lectures are not detailed enough for tests. Go to study sessions. He is very kind and enthusiastic but does not understand that he knows the material much more than his students. Tests are difficult and have so much material so watch lecture videos before class and read the textbook.
