the worst teacher at the college. no one can understand him. take anyone else.
A weird radical man. Hard grading concept that is difficult to grasp. Save yourself and take another teacher.

I liked this teacher alot...ALthough i Didnt learn too much it was an interesting class. His papers are easy to write. I pulled an A in both courses so it was allll good!!!

He is a strange person and compicated to what he is wanting from you. If you didn't write your essays to conform to his way of thinking, you won't do well. I did get a B, but it was because I wrote his views, not mine.
Dr. Woodsoon makes the class about politics, not composition. He's very incoherent, very haughty, and never organized. You must write in his style or you will fail. I got an A in the class, but most people did poorly because they couldn't figure out exactly what he wanted. Classes are full of stupid metaphors and lectures that lack substance.

Not the easiest professor to understand but his main objective was to make you use your brain. I actually learned alot in his class and am very glad I took it. I wouldn't recommend him though, unless you are very open minded.
Despite his overly emphasized personal opinions, I really enjoyed the class. He offered the class fresh interpretations of literature and had us research current literary arts in Houston. The research on Houston literaty arts made me aware of yet another wonderful aspect of my city. In the area of interpreting literature, his opinions on the text were valid and usually compelling. Although, I must admit that most of the selected readings were depressing.

His assignments are a little hard to understand and he talks alot about governtment and politics. I listened very closely to him though and got an A.

Man is a wonderful thinker. Some of his political views can be a little hard to grasp, but overall very helpful and clear on what he wants. Just listen, learn, and give him what he wants. He is very intelligent and he knows it. So, if you can deal with a little arrogance and want to learn how to really write, take this class and leave with an A.
He's a wack teacher, who is complicated and has confusing ways of teaching. You don't learn anything in his class so basically u self teach ourself. WHATEVER u do don't take him he gave 15 out of 21 students in my class D's.

Woodson is smart extreme radical liberal man. his clarity is not that great, each day after assignin and assighment, it becomes more clarifyin tho. some say he can be a lil insulting. but hes cool if your not sensitive. hes a political man so if ur not interested in that, don't take him. just do wat he says and u'll get an A or B in there.

I really enjoyed his class
his class was so incredibly easy. the papers we had to write werent hard at all. just go to class and take notes on what he talks about and put it in your own words. i got As and Bs on those, and i wrote my research paper the night before it was due and got a 98. he also curves the class' grade at the end so everyone does well.

This guy looks like an out of shape Mr. Clean w/out earrings. Very politically based. Doesn't really know what he wants in the papers. Good thing is ... no tests. Lecture was so-so, a lot of talk. Not much work. He destroyed the good writing habilts every other enlish teacher made me learn. If you can write boring and to the point, take him.
He is not a very structured teacher. He will want one thing on one paper and then a COMPLETELY different one on another. He contradicts himself all the time. If you are good at reading between the lines go ahead and take his class.
His lectures are mainly politics. If you act interested in what he talks about, you will do ok. Act like you're learning something and he will be happy. He HATES "high schoolers" and immature/unintelligent people. I wouldn't recommend Woodson...but then again I hate English!
Dont take him. The way he wants you do things is all weird and nobody likes him, and he always has something to prove so he sets up a debate for half the class.

the worst english teacher I have ever had and I have never disliked a teacher so much. I regret taking his class and would not recomend to anyone to take him. He is very subjective but you dont know what he wants.

a bit pretentious. VERY POLITICAL! i signed up for english, not politics. Always talks about "what woodson wants" but never clarifies what he really does want.
Worst professor i ever had
Be ready to work. With the right notes the first time the class is a breeze. He is funny and interesting. He realates to his student with current events. ITs not about content its format. Its a really good class and half the time you wont stay the entire class.

He was a good teacher. At the beginning of the semester he did say if you are a "D" student you will come out of his class a "B" student and if you are a "C" student you will come out an "A" student. I came out a "B" student. I did like to class. I would recommend taking him
Regardless of what people have posted, He is an excellent teacher. Makes you use your brain and think. Never missed a class. He is willing to go out of his way and help. These other comments are not true. Sounds like they didn't come to class or talk with the teacher. Awsome instructor!
If you actually expect to learn something, I'd choose a different teacher. Most of what he says is off topic and makes no sense and the few gems of knowledge that he does manage to articulate usualy are buried beneath all the crap he spews. Pay attention to the notes he projects on the board. It's the only thing of value in his class.
DR. Woodson is totally cool. He is very political, but it's good to be aware of those things anyways. His class is not hard.. he does talk about goofy stuff now and again but he's REAL. essays were cool and he will work with you if you need it two thumbs up
He is a very easy teacher. 4 essays and 1 research paper. He's not really into the content cares more about if you got the idea of the paper or not. He gets off topic very easily. He's VERY VERY political. So if you are a hands on learner I would take somebody else. If you know what your doing then go ahead and take him. He's a lot of fun.
If you like politcs and enjoy to teach yourself about the topics for the essays given you will love him. I would say he is not my favorite teacher, I hate poltics...
if your know how to write and like politics and talking about philosphy hes great and great conversationalist but hes pretty unclear in what he wants and grades pretty hard go to central to take your 1301 and 1302 they have a easy grading policy
He is just interested in politics. He has unclear directions. He talks nothing but upcoming events and has nothing relate to what he wants you to write. He is a horribel teacher. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Dr. Woodson is definitely a character! As everyone else has stated, he loves to talk politics, which is cool if you want to actually LEARN something in class. He will make you a better writer, but like others have said, it can be hard to get him to be clear about what he wants on paper. Just be real with him, and do all your work and you will pass.
Mmmmmmmmm i like Mr woodson,,i enrolled his class,,i couldnt even understand him at first,,i gladually followed his teaching methods/concepts while other students were sleeping(those braging here he is bad)asking him questions,and thats all about writing-layig down the concept of the material,wat will it help you to get an easy A and you cant write
One of the most unclear teachers I have ever taken. He is a decent person and the class is pretty easy but you must write every paper almost twice. He makes you come to his office with it beforehand where he can tell you none of it works and therefore you must rewrite it.Did this to nearly 90% of his students.
He can come off as a hardass but he is a very helpful professor as long as you keep an open line of communication. Checks your work b/4 u turn it in to make sure you know where you are going with your writting. To me that made a huge difference because it assured that I knew what he expected. Must go to class and actually listen.
I was skeptical at first based on the ratings, but Dr Woodson is very helpful, clearly wants to teach & help you, but you have to attend & participate. He has tangents, but class is interesting, he is extremely bright & knows what he's talking about. If you want to learn, attend class & work, take it. A's are possible.

He grades you based of how well he likes you and what he thinks of you, not on your writing. Class is always canceled and then he tries to accuse you of having alot of absences. By far the worst teacher I have ever had. I wrote an essay about playing an instrument and he couldn't even begin to help me he just told me it was a San Jac B. He put up a dead students paper for peer review. I'm an A student but this teacher seems to think you need a degree in something to talk about it. He will go on an on about he has a P.h.d, but this just goes to show you just because you have a degree doesn't mean your smart and it doesn't mean your a good teacher.

Accuses students of cut and paste plagiarism without reading students papers. I quoted the required number of sources on a research paper one time and he accused me of plagiarism even though the paper was in my own words except for the quotes.
To make an A: attend class, be on time, participate, be able to spell and use correct grammar, turn your papers in on time. He allows do-overs -- he encourages them! He publishes a reading schedule and assignment list in week 1. Best of all, he assigns longest paper for week 8, not 15, which relieves some pressure at semester end. He's great!!!

Excellent instructor in many ways. For example, before an essay is turned in, he will proof read it and tell you what needs to be changed. Prof. Woodson made the class enjoyable. The negative posts written about him are wrong. I made an A, and it was one of the easiest, passing grades I have earned. I recommend taking his class.
The grades are almost known after first paper, he says however hard you try you cannot change your style of writing... boasts a lot about his Phd degree and is unclear...grades are hard to earn! A's are nearly impossible!!
Easy class, but he is not a very sociable teacher. He makes you understand how simple and easy writing should be.
He's horrible. He tells us to email him our assignment, the fails us because he "doesn't accept emails".

He tells all of us everyday that we are stupid, just not in those words. He always asks for food/ drinks. He is also very inappropriate. He grades you by how well he likes you, not by how well you do on the papers.
Mike is the best damn writing teacher. He taught me how to write so well that I wrote my way into Law school. He took me from a FOM level to a post graduate level of writing. He really is teaching you how to think. Listen to everything Mike tell you and you will be a master of the English Language. Best English Prof Ever.
Woodson taught me how to write. For sure pay attention the first few classes and learn to write using the Agent and main idea. Hes super big on that. Turn your papers in on time, show up to class, and ASK QUESTIONS. Hes also very social once you get to know him and talk to him after class, one prof. I would say actually cares about his students!
He is very confusing to say the least. He'll say one thing but mean another. It's frustrating but, I can understand what he means for the most part. He is willing to give you feedback on your papers, and is very encouraging. I have to say that he did help me learn how to write a focused and organized paper. IF you're understanding, I recommend him.
I'm taking him at Lee College he is very easy to take and very easy to get along with. I love the fact he does conferences and he is very clear on what he wants from you definatly will refer him the entire time I am at lee college.

He is a terrible professor!!! I had to get a textbook that we do not even use. He does have conferences where he tears your papers apart. I would correct exactly what he wanted me to and it still wasn't good enough. I hated this class. 0/10 would not recommend.

I felt that he disliked me more than all of the other students and his lectures were pointless and touched on topics that made no sense.
10/10 would recommand to anyone i mean anyone he is so good with feedback that helps everyone at the end and the only person i met here that takes the time to actually care we at lee college 10/10 take take take!
Dude is all over the place. His lectures are useless because you can't tell what he is trying to say and he confuses you on if he is progressive or not. He is alright at grading papers but do not expect to learn much besides formatting your paper.
