This guy is a piece of work, but I learned alot from him. He makes you work hard. Makes you keep writing over and over again until you get it. I have to admit at first I didn't like him at all, but eventually I got use to his weird ways.
One of the best Instructors I have ever had. Inspired me to question what I read and what I hear. Life changing class.
Teacher is very tough but probably the best teacher i've had. At first you don't want to be in the class but it's well worth it. He's not there to be your friend and he'll make sure that is very clear. Very GOOD teacher.
THE BEST TEACHER!!!! My class started out with over 30 people and ended with 8. Teacher is very intimidating but if you stick with it you have a really good time. Very inspiring teacher. Definitly reccomend him for any english class. I took him for english 90 and will also be taking him for eng 21!!!

One of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes you really think, and won't give you all the answers. You really learn alot in his class, and he encourages you to make friendships. If your on his good side then he'll help you any way he can. I'd recomen
I took his class and at first I found it to be rather interesting but eventually he would assign us work but never be clear about when its due untill the last day. Also he gets irritated if you don't understand what he is saying. He is not a bad teacher, just a hard one to follow.

Hes ok at times but seriously, just try to stay away from him. Hes a good teacher but just not someone I would take again. Ask for too much at once and then never talks about what he asked for again.
GREAT teacher!!! I got an A in his class. He's really tough, but if he can tell that you work your butt off than he will give you a good grade. Don't sluff off in his class and pay attention. Ask LOTS of questions because he teaches alot of classes and sometimes he forgets if he told you already. Greatly recommended.
Will assign like 40 assignments at once. Doesn't go over them clearly...keeps interrupting you while you're working, hassles you like no other. Prides himself in being mean. If you want someone who NAGS 24/7, go take him, otherwise do yourself a favor and run. I got a B regardless..
I only had one session with him in the Reading and Writing Center and he came off as a very rude man. I never had him as a teacher but I knew someone who did and that person didn't like him either.
At first I really didn't like him. Seemed to be all about himself. I saw him in the hall and asked to talk to him about the course. We went right to his sloppy office and talked about the course for at least 30 minutes. I changed my mind about him. He is a pretty decent guy once you get to know him.
Mr. Yeong is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He really made me think and analyze the work in every assignment he gave us. He is very persistant with getting his students to think and understand the work and it helps out alot. I turned in all of my work and I got an A in his class. He is a wonderful teacher, should be more like him.
I have to say that yes he does intimidate at first, but my theory is that he only does it to get rid of slackers.Yes,he assigns a lot of work (A LOT!)and doesn't make it clear when its due,but if you show an effort and show up for the final instead of dropping out early, you'll get an A. Simply put, the man is only helpful for the best, the toughest.
A cool guy once you get to know him. HE IS AN ****. ONE OF THE BIGGEST ONES YOU'LL EVER MEET. AND HE DOES PRIDE HIMSELF ON THAT. Very weird, but if you show up to class, put forth the effort and SHOW interest, you'll pass.
Mike is my best english teacher. English is my second language and I had gramma problems before, but after taking his class, and his personal advises to me gave me the highest grade in my College composition. He gave the best foundation is english language. thanks mike.
Never knew exactly where he was going with his lessons. Very unclear on what we were supposed to be doing and I never figured it out. He would give assignments then change his mind about them. I'm still unclear on what the class was really about.
Although I didn't like him at first, he grows on you and you really learn some important things that will wil help you at your transfer university. I'm a junior at SDSU and I continue to use the reading strategies that Yeoung showed me.
he is sooooo sweet and a damn good teacher... keep up the good work mr yeong and thank you for excepting me back for the second time!!
He is very intimidating. The attitude he puts off is really mean. He's very unclear with the assignments he gives, which makes it hard to follow along in the class. But, he is actually a very nice person if you get to know him. He really wants you to do well, and i think that's why he's mean. Do your work, & go to class, & you'll pass!
Mr. Yeong is harsh when the class begins. During the semester he'll lighten up. When he sees that you aren't giving up on the class he will act more kind. You have to attend class or he'll give you a bit of a hard time. Make sure you talk and ask questions so that he sees that you are trying to learn.
He is definately not a friendly person when the course starts. As things go along he does get better. I really got to know him when I ran with him at a neighboring college...really a nice guy...would take him again.
At first I hated this guy. He worked us hard and was, at times, very confusing. About half way through I realised he was getting me to think for myself and I liked that. By the end of the course I really liked him as a teacher and now as a friend. Good Teacher...stick with it...
I was reading everyonelses comments and pretty much agree with them. You have to get to no this guy first before u judge him. He teaches you to think and get better at it. He always ask questions ???. Making you stop and think about what to say. I went to see him and changed my mind about him.
1st day..He scared the crud out of me! After a short time, you find that he is a very smart guy. He really makes you think deep into a subject. 1 of the best teachers Ive ever had! He gives a lot of work but you have time to complete it. His test are random n difficult but if you score bad, i dont think he holds it against you. Hes a Great teacher!
He introduced me to blackboard and portfolio. He introduced me to the best female tutor in the world. He knew that I was the only ESL student there, and he helped me alot and it made me appreciate him even more. He's always say HI to his FORMER students first. He rocks. And Prof Young, if you read this and have any idea who I am,I take classes at SFSU
I have read some of the other comments about this teacher and agree with most of what was said. I am a student at UC Riverside the university Mr. Yeoung recommend to me. At first I really did not like him but as I got to know him I think I learned more from him then any other teacher I have ever had. I will graduate soon and want to thank him.
I thought Mr. Yeong was a good teacher. At first I doubted his methods but I began to see them as useful. He really does care about students, he just comes off as being mean and scary but after getting to know him he's really quite nice. He just treats students as adults and is very blunt.
I recently graduated with a BA and must say that Michael Yeong stands out as one of the few professors who inspired me. He does come off as intimidating at first, but his teaching methods are what got me into shape with school. Prior to him, I was in high school and not getting good grades. At the final, only 8 of us showed up and we all did well.
This class is so easy. There is a lot of reading, but the whole class is based on one major project and a lot of the reading is not relevent to that project, so you don't have to read it all. Mr. Yeong seems to be obsessed with the website called TED. He relied on it and "speeches" from a Harvard professor (who did not know much about physics) for the first half of the semester. Overall, I felt that it was a waste of my time, but was a requirement for a CSU transfer.
This course appears at first to be easy but once I got into a group and started to do all the readings, viewing the videos, and attending the lectures i soon realized that this was going to be a hard course. The instructor really does not help you except to give you encouragement that you will succeed. He is an interesting guy.
He is an outstanding teacher, who allows you to think on your own. If you like to have a professor that will do anything to help you be sucessful I say take his class, you will not be mad at your decison.
i felt like he was disorginized-we had to buy this book that cost $60 that was not resaleable bcas its a book you write in.we used it like twice and out of the 3 text books we had to buy we read one.i did all my work and ended up with a C-this girl who never went to class and missed a lot of her work got a B-even she was surprised.i learned nothing
The first thing I will note is, Mr. Yeong prides himself on saying, "I've never given a grade less than an A to any of my students." And he's right. He bases his teaching around defying authority, and it's really a class you should appreciate.. take the time to learn. The big emphasis is on a final group project, so find people you can work with!
AWESOME! He takes the time to help you and ANYWAY possible. gives out many extra resources for you to read about if u liked the subject he's lecturing about. Sometimes disorganized but his concepts are great. I had him for 90 and 100 and plan on taking his 220. Experienced,Joker,REALIST, encourager. Take his criticism w/ a pinch of salt
One of the best instructors to teach English. He emphasizes to think critically. Very helpful and desires his students to succeed. He encourages and inspires. I recommend Mr. Yeong as an instructor.
Professor Yeong is great. Don't take this class if you don't want to think critically. He will definitely challenge you to do just that. He holds no punches. When he says, "look it up." He means, "look it up and write the SH-- down."
Mr. Yeong is a very good teacher. First day of class he said, "I don't give my students less than an A in this course." You must keep that A by putting in the work. Be sure to turn in assignments , summaries, and reflection letters on time. Find a GOOD group to work with because your grade is based on a final presentation. I highly recommend him.
I've had Mr Yeong, for everyone of my English classes and He is a marvel all on his own. He's very serious with schooling. He enjoys a joke ever so often. isoffice is like a hoarders house but he carries himself as professional. Theres a mystery behind his Madness. I love his mellow english classes. You will never feel neglected in his classes.
I've had Mr. Yeong for Eng 90, 100, and 220. So happy to complete my Eng requirements with him. He seems rough but the nicest man I've met. He's passionate and sensitive when you get to know him. Mr. Yeong, thank you for everything. I will never forget you. You are an awesome instructor. Your Eng 220 class was the best. I enjoyed that class.
One of the worst English instructors I ever had. Hes unorganized, changes his mind alot, and forgets. He will assign work and sometimes wont collect it. His office says it all.
he is very unorganized and irresponsible. He seems to "forget" things all the time. He repeats stuff over and over again as if he doesnt realize it. Dont take him.
Mr. Yeong is a very intelligent man. He has gone out of his way to bring an Ivy League course to community college level. Those who criticize his teaching style are just afraid to admit that they are bad students. If you want a teacher who actually cares about his student's education, you found the right man. A+ for Mr. Yeong!
A friend recommended this class. I didn't know what to expect with Mr. Yeong. Turns out, he cares for his students. I am happy I took his class. I would recommend this class to others. Obedience to authority was our theme this semester. This class taught me to question so much and to think/analyze more critically.
Very strict and principled instructor. Teaches excellently. He has numerous teaching strategies to bring out the best in students.
I would take this class again. I learned more from this class on how to analyze and think critically better than any english class I took and having to write essays. Mr. Yeong has an incredible teaching style. Take this class, you won't regret it.
Mr. Yeong is a great professor. HE wants you to succeed and will pushes you hard with the hard work he gives. The grade is earn, so to keep that A, you must go beyond and work hard with your group. you don't get an A, you earn an A. You will never forget how hard you work for this instructor. I recommend.
Yeong is a great teacher who sincerely wants you to succeed! He opens your mind up to think in a way you're not used to, which is exciting and interesting! The skills and knowledge will help you for the rest of your life! Most classes consists of watching segments and critically analyzing them. There's a group project(final)which will take up time.
Terrible teacher. Seems like after teaching 20 years at LMC he has become disgruntled with his job! No Syllabus: who works like that? He will email you one day before class and expect you to know it next class! Doesn't grade work (why are we doing it). Complains about LMC all the time! He is unprofessional, take another teacher!! Trust me!!
No reason why you shouldn't pass this class. Great teacher!I took him twice.
This class was fun. Just make sure your group is a group of good workers. You do not want any slackers in your group.
I really don't understand why there's some negative reviews about this teacher. He's a really cool guy and he has a very beautiful personality. All we did was watch interesting videos and read articles on different topics. Just do good on your final group project and you'll get an A!
He was a incredibly nice teacher, great teaching method, you will learn a lot. Fairly easy, highly recommended.
Awesome class! You will explore some pretty deep issues that challenge you to think critically, especially as it pertains to obedience to authority within our culture. No essays, just weekly reflections. Final project is time consuming, so pick a great team. Yeong comes off almost cruel at first, BUT HE IS NOT, he is a super kind,& intelligent.
Very EASY and interesting English course you will ever take! NO HOMEWORK at all. Entire course is based off of our 75 page textbook that is all about obedience and Authority. He will put people into groups of 4/5 in the beginning of the course and you will have to stay with them til the very end for your Final project/Presentation. Easy Project
he gets annoying sometimes. some people took the reflection letters way too serious. Do some of them. Doesnt keep track who did them. there is a group project midterm and final. have to know how to video edit movies into presentation. You dont get a grade you earn it and keep it. Do well on final work and you will earn an A.
Intense Professor, but cool. Intense subject matter, be forewarned. You will learn to develop a critical mind regarding what you read and watch. Simple homework (reflection). You will pick a team of student's early on and they will be with you all semester, choose wisely. Final project time consuming, but doable. Take with a more demanding class.
I highly recommend taking this class. The class is fairly easy. That is, as long as you show up to class and do the reading. took english 90/1o0. He makes you pick groups at the beginning of the semester which you will then do a collaborative essay with as a final. As long as you have people who actually apply themselves, then you are golden.
If you're willing to put in work and participate in class then his teaching method is right up your alley. I personally like this method cause I feel like every penny that I'm paying for my education is being put to use. Overall, easy going and very approachable teacher. You'll definitely get something out of it if you apply what you learn.
I never had a teacher like Mr. Yeong in my life. He is outstanding and really cares about his students. He never ignored me and always was willing to help me with my work. I will remember him as someone who influenced my life.
Even though I got an A in this class I will be honest. Has you pick a group from the beginning, choose wisely because they will be your group until the end. Found out at the last minute that our mid-term group presentations were not being graded. He was not fair didn't make every group present for mid-term. Canceled last 5 classes.
He comes off as very intense the first class to try to scare you. Lectures are long with a lot of videos but it is very interesting info. Brilliant man and really will teach you a lot about the subject and about life. He is very helpful and will work with you. Notes are a huge part! BIG group project that last all semester but no tests! Great class
I took Yeong because of the rates on here, and I am still in his 220 class and would definitely take his class again! He is the most inspirational teacher I've had at LMC so far, all his lectures are good, they relate to real life today and there is no essays and no tests, just a year long group project that you present for your final.
Yeong is not a man to judge by the cover. Day 1 he was very stern and intimidating. One heck of a guy with alot of great things to share. He loves to hear your feedback, so don't be afraid to speak up. Lectures are actually interesting, don't forget to take notes. Pick people you will want to works with for the whole semester (Group Project)
He was not really clear on ANYTHING! You have to work in groups in order to pass this class. Yes, there is no essays or tests, you only turn in a reflection letter at the beginning of each class. But we worked on a mid-term and did not even present. He was very unorganized, rude and did not update us on our grades. Would not recommend his class.
Interesting class, but not sure I got much out of it. A lot of handouts to read, and movies to watch. He's unorganized, there is no syllabus, and assignments aren't clear because he contradicts himself a LOT. Take good notes. You won't get one single graded paper back. Makes you select a group on the first day that you work with the ENTIRE semester
The entire course is one long group project, but there are no exams or essays. Attendance is a must, you need to be able to work well on your own and in a group, and be responsible with how you spend your time. Mr. Yeong is a great guy. Very interesting and engaging and he really cares. His teaching style can be hard for some students though.
If you like group projects this is the class for you. If you don't like group projects then DO NOT take this class. You have one group for the whole entire semester to work on movie performance for the final. No essays or test for this class. The class is unorganized but it is easy if you have good group.
Mr. Yeong became one of my favorite teachers I've every had at the end of the semester. I learned a lot about the subject matter. His goal is for you to be able to critically think on your own about everything you do and it definitely had an effect on me. I would definitely recommend his class to anyone as long as you're not looking to slack off.
He seemed nice at first, but he's very conceited and rude. He always brags about how people want to be in his class and how he's a great professor. Overall I felt as if I wasted my time with this class because I learnt nothing. Classes are a waste of time and you get nothing out of it. Extremely disappointed with this professor.
He is an amazing teacher but DO NOT take this class if you don't like group projects. I really liked his class but my whole grade was based on a group long semester project and my group was horrible. If you're that one person that ends up doing everything in a group, please don't take this class because it becomes very stressful.
Yes, this class requires you to do group work. This is college, if you can't be a responsible adult doing your part in a group you probally shouldn't be here in the first place. That being said, I defiantly learned a lot in his class. I enjoyed the interesting subjects he would teach. Not an easy A but very possible. Just do your work!!
Many students like him, others did NOT like him. I am one of the students who did not like him. During our midterm (which not many other groups performed) he walked out and didn't return until after we have finished. Trying to do the final was difficult, made it hard to perform.
No real structure at all. If it wasn't for my previous Eng 90 professor, I would have failed in future English classes. I learned nothing new in his class. I had to look up easy formats on "youtubes" since he didn't teach us. If possible avoid his English 90 & 100 classes. Anything higher I would only if no one else is available.
Never met a teacher who's had as big of an impact on my life as Yeong has had. I took him fall 16 and I still find myself quoting material learned in his class. I regret hardly participating in class discussions because I know he really enjoyed hearing what was on our minds. The txt book is cheap/useful. Pick a sensible group, come w/an open mind
Mr. Yeong is one of my favorite professors. He truly cares about his students and the lives we live. He incorporates real life situations into his lessons and challenges the concept of our morality. His class is not very challenging if you show up and do the work on time. He is big on participation. Highly recommend this class.
TAKE HIM! Honestly as long as you participate in class and complete the final, you will get an A. He makes you critical think and connect the videos he shows in class, in order to prove your point. Make sure you atten class regularly and get into a good group.
Enjoyable, absorbed critical thought process in every day life, I even enjoyed working in my group and on project. Taking Mr. Yeong class was definitely an experience that I can utilize throughout the rest of my journey.
I haven't finished this course yet, but I am awaiting my last day to present our final. The whole semester he was completely unorganized. He's given us unorthodoxed assignments all throughout the semester but never once collected or graded them. This is just the tip of the iceberg I really do not recommend this teacher if you want to actually learn
This was the last class I needed to take before transferring. I've already taken this class the semester before, and the group I was in was not for me. The professor is a very haughty know it all who thinks that everyone, at every second in their life should think and act like him. DO NOT take this class if you want peace of mind.
He has a unique style of teaching. He does what's called Project Based Learning which means you have to two major projects and you have to work in groups (no tests). Btw, he comes off a lil bit strong/serious but he's a cool dude.
Yeong is an authentic narcissist who has the nerve to put his own photo on the syllabus. Lectures are 3 hours of him on his politically correct, feminist soap box. Blah blah. Makes YOU print out every handout. Tons of group work/forced note taking/documentary watching/reflection paper writing (due every single class) Literally learned nothing.
Mr. Yeong is beyond amazing. You can see he cares about his students throughout his teachings. If you arent ready to take notes the entire class, work in a group for the semester, and learn to think out of the box - this class isnt for you. I highly recommend this class as it has helped me with other classes as well as personal development.
Look, ur either going to love him & get an A or hate everything about the class & maybe a C. I think this last semester was a little more hectic than he was planning, and by the end of the semester we were graded on our class participation, how much we talked to him, and our final "performance." It'll be stressful, but not impossible by any means.
In the beginning it may seem like a tough class but its really not! just forces you to think! Grades you off of the midterm and final assignment but as long as you have a good group you will get an A. Professor Yeong is an amazing professor, definitely a class worth taking!
Yeong wants you to be an active thinker in this day and age. He wants you to succeed and just wants to see if you have been listening in his class. FIND A RELIABLE GROUP and you will pass easily.
This teacher is awesome. If you have to take an English class, take Michael yeong 220 English class. You won't have homework. He doesn't take attendance. All you have to do it "write it down". Watches lots of video. There are no tests. You will have to be in a group of 3 to 6 people. There are 2 group projects. Need to know how to use a computer.
First things first, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD GROUPMATES. I ended up carrying the entire group for the final performance. Besides that, he's pretty chill. Make sure you take notes of what you did for every class period, or at least have one groupmate present to do so. NO ESSAYS!!!
I took this class over the summer and wish I had taken his full semester. I really enjoyed Professor Yeong. If you show that you care, then he will care. This was an interesting class. Show up, take notes, listen to what he says, do your work and you'll be set.
Mr. yeong was an amazing professor. I learned more about myself and more information about the meaning of critical thinking. Hes very passionate on the topic, was always open for open discussion. He wants his students to be engaged and talk to one another about the subject being brought. I loved his class and truly thankful for what i learned.
Mr. Yeong cared about his students and was a great person, but as a professor, he was very disorganized, and his grading criteria were not clear. It was challenging to be in his class at times. Sadly, this semester he became sick and stopped coming, so two other teachers came in and had to take his place and finish out the semester.
I'm not really sure what people see in this professor, honestly. He contradicts himself daily, gives his opinion as fact, and is incredibly vague about how to succeed in his class. For a critical thinking course, the discussion doesn't get much deeper than immediate thoughts and feelings, which seem overly emphasized considering.
Took Yeong in the summer , he was intimidating at first but once you get to know his teaching style hes easy. No homework and no essays in summer. He just made us do a one page reflections about what we learned that day. And the group final. Its an easy class if your willing to learn a different Style of teaching.
He was the best and easiest english teacher I ever took. You dont have tests or papers, you just have a lot of reading and once a week you have to turn in a letter of reflection. He is really an amazing teacher who has good things to tell you. You can also tell that he is very passionate about what he does as well.
Prof Yeong literally changed my life. I came out of this class having a better understanding of myself and was able to tackle my fears thanks to his constant motivation and support. Make sure to connect with people willing to work on projects outside of classes. No homework, participate in class, easy A
I definitely wouldnt take his class again. Considering the global pandemic were in, he did not accommodate students and piled on the work load and expected you to do the work. We didnt have zoom calls but were required to call him on the phone. I didnt call very often because he was very rude and condescending most of the time.
He was an awful teacher, every essay we wrote about had no clear "prompt" he would just send us 5-6 emails EACH DAY with directions. The directions were never clear and he would blame the students for "getting it wrong". He was very rude and NOT helpful at all, he often sighed over the phone when talking to him like it was a burden.
One of the worst teachers ive had, he was super disorganized. There wasnt much "critical thinking" because he would always send the same articles but never dove into the topic. Most work wasn't collected and when asking about my grade he didn't tell me. He doesnt care for his students and is really RUDE and will contradict whatever you say
dude was absolutely god awful. spams you with tons emails daily and you have to call him for attendance. doesn't know how to use the computer, and is super rude on the phone. Do not take this senile old grumpy teacher. Had to drop because I couldn't take him.
If you take this class online be prepared to be confused on what to do. You have to phone call him twice a week for attendance. I personally felt a little uneasy about it and Its frustrating because Im very busy working and doing school at the same time. The modules he makes and assigns on canvas almost has nothing to do with what he assigns.
The teacher is very rude, he wants you to call him twice a week which I did, and he still called my phone number on a day I did not have to call yelling at me about not calling him, after I explained that I did call him he proceeded to yell and no apologize I immediately dropped the class there is not need to be disrespectful.
Hes definitely a professor with a different teaching style. I havent decided if its good or bad. Here is the truth. He contradicted himself almost every time I talked to him. I got away with not turning in a assignment because he wont grade it and was rude when I asked about his policy, since he never posted a syllabus? He cares about calls!
He is really really nice but he has days were he gets in bad moods. The only thing he grades is the final essay and its super easy. He gives everyone A's. He wants people to show up and that's literally it. HIGHLY RECOMMED
Prof. Yeong seemed mean at first but to know him is to love him. He taught me a lot. He doesnt collect work but do the assignments anyway because it will help you with your essay at the end of semester. He sends a lot of videos to watch thats not necessary. Select at least 5 videos/articles for essay and you will get an easy A.
This “professor” does not care about his students. He is incredibly unorganized. If you make the mistake of taking any of his online classes be prepared to have no direction or help and expect to be blamed for not understanding. He expects phone calls for attendance which in my opinion should not be allowed
No canvas homework, just printed papers weekly and 1 essay final. Passionate teacher and wants his students to do well. You do not see a grade in the class till it is in your transcript. He had very inspiring words and encouraged his students often. He does not give much work. Just do all the work he gives and ask for help if needed.
His Engl 220 class was extremely disorganized. He would assign things and never collect them, forget what he assigned, or simply change what he originally assigned to something else. He yells if you don't participate, and often goes on rants. Class is easy overall.
At first he was intimidating but he help me become a better college student and even gave me tips on how to be successful on my academic life (: !! He just grades 1 essay throughout the semester. If you take his class don't drop out try to stay till the end and I guarantee you you'll get an A.
Definitely intimidating, but that's because he's extremely passionate about what he teaches. Super blunt and honest, but that's one of his biggest strengths as an instructor, he won't insult you though. Loves group discussions, you need to get out of your shell and speak up to pass & enjoy the class. I know I loved the class. Vague grading though.
Greatest professor of all time - LGM
The professor has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class works well. Definitely use the free textbook and attend lectures to learn the material. I found unstuck AI super helpful for study prep too.
