He's pretty cool and his class is interesting. Don't take him if your one of those lame science students who cant write or think objectively. His class is just discussion about strange topics so its kinda fun. Hes fair in grading if youre not a moron
It seemed that he was trying to get us to write argumentative essays using Semiotics so we learned to persuade the reader to believe what we did but it didn't work that well since half the class couldn't write argumentative essays to begin with.
I had him for eng 102. Thought he was pretty good..down to earth. Classes are interesting if you like to think.

i had no idea what's going on in the class, very hard. he didn't even give us the topic to write paper, you have to form your own argument.. don't take his class. too hard...
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Zeugin always shows up late to class. He grades hard as hell. He doesn't really tell you what the grading system in his class is either. His class does not prepare you for the final. This guy should absolutly be fired!
It's a writing class people! That means you have to be able to write in a somewhat intelligent manner. I always received excellent criticism from him. My only complaint: not enough practice for the format of the final. Great guy, though.

This teacher was horrible. at first you think he down to earth, but his grading system sucks!and he's not very clear.He says he doesn't give A's cuz freshmans aren't skilled writers. He basically wants everyone to write and think like him.

VERY HARD CLASS! If you looking for a good grade, do not take his class. You will be writing papers daily/weekly. However, he does prepare you to pass the final, which you will need in order to pass the class.
I dont recommend this professor. His mind wanders from topic to topic all the time. You usually dont understand what he's trying to say. He grade very unfairly. I might have one grammatical mistake on the essay and make alot of sense but still recieve a 'C'. What kind of sh*t is that not cool at all
Stupid people wouldn't like him, because he makes them think and work hard. He's a good teacher and very helpful if you DO YOUR WORK. If you don't, don't expect him to pass you. It's college, people. If you want a challenege and really want hlp with your writing, take him. Interesting readings to.
He was a very bad teacher. He's unfit to teach, he's supposed to be an eglish teacher and can't even spell. He grades students based on how much they kiss his ass.
His grading system is horrible! Everytime he grades papers it's as though he's going on a C giving spree. He never explains on how u can actually make a paper better!
Zeugin definately likes to talk, sometimes really off track, but has comic relief in what he says. He is a good professor, grades fairly, and papers generally aren't that hard. The class isnt that bad

well he is not that bad as eveyone is making him seem. He just wanders around talking a lot of stuff...always jumping form topic to topic. I admit I was a little bored but then when he would analyze the work...it was actually kind of interesting. I got an A on a paper that I did the night before....so far so good.
this guy right here is really annoying he doesn't explain things to its fullest when the students are actully getting to understand the materials he hits them witha paper to do he really need to calm his ass down . he grades papers and only gives out C's he should give a little brake to the srtuggling writers
He is a nice professor. Gives less work during the semester. you just have to do 4 papers. but his grading style is very strict. I would recommend him if you are good in english.
Writing Non-Fiction/Digital Photgraphy: He's aweful. Unless you do things EXACTLY the way he would, you will get a bad grade. Mock him & Steal his work, and you'll be fine. You have to do everything EXACTLY like him. There is no room to be creative. His pictures suck, his writing sucks, but he thinks he is amazing, and he doesn't even have a Ph.D.

Fun and enjoyable class. A lot of freedom to create and he isn't a prude, so your material can be edgy, as long as it fits the story. Class can go off-topic a bit and there are awkward moments of silence, but it doesn't hinder the overall enjoyment.
he really sux....and all he does is bring some candy to eat in class....and you get out of the class the same way you came in or worse!
horrible. thinks he's god. has the biggest ego ever. if your not just like him, well, you just suck, because he is amazing (or so he thinks). he has been published many times in wind surfing monthly, and takes pictures... he also got his masters from rutgers and graduated with high honors, and thats how he got the job. such a jerk. don't take him.
i don't think he is that bad. it's true he actually rambles quite a bit, but you will definitely learn in his class. i failed the final twice, had him workshop, and i passed the final the 3rd time.
Almost failed englsih 102 cause of this guy....must talk in class and do his stupid research critiques, not very clear in what he wants in your writing, but if you want to take creative writing with him he's good with that, lots of ideas, better at teaching creative writing, and lets you write just about anything you want.
Had this guy for english 102 and creative writing, he made me almost change my major. I started to hate english because of him. Assigns papers but isnt clear on what he wants in them and always sees hidden meanings in everything that no one else sees, which just leaves ppl more confused.

I think he is a very fun guy and keeps the class awake with interesting discussions, but he expects way too much out of you when it comes to writing papers. i had him my first semester and i almost failed the class! i wouldnt suggest taking him if you are not that good a writer.

I took good old Zeugin in 101 and again in 102, he's the man. His classes are interesting and he's always willing to help. He also lets you rewrite basically anything you want, so bad grades are no excuse!!! Great guy.
he is not that bad at all talk to him, be very interested in his talking, participate let him able to understand yourself. i think he is very nice esp when he lets u re-write papers even for the ones u wrote again! for me to improve the grade n understand the subject was all i wanted!

Very Easy-going and chill. Had this professor for Eng.Comp. 102. The only way you'd fail is by not doing the assigned papers he gives, which you work on in class with him as well. His grading is a bit hard,afterall it is an English class. He also lets you read the text during midterms. Overall he's a cool professor. EASY PASSING CLASS!
Great guidance for writing papers! Zeugin really helps you to improve your writing skills, and is always avialable to help. His class is not difficult if you do the work and participate. if you follow his suggestions in your work it pays off in future classes, as I still use his suggested techniques and usually get an A on my papers. Great teacher!

You receive 1 excused day, and any other days off you will receive a letter grade off. He is not helpful and his favorite words are "I don't care". I love Rutgers but this Professor is the worse thus far. God forbid if your late, two lates = an absence. His lectures are boring and he never end class early. He loves his daughter she's in all of the lectures.

Zeugin is a HORRIBLE teacher, no matter how hard you try or how good you thought you paper was, you still will not recieve higher than a C or C+ in his class. Unless of course you know ALOT about old cars, turbo charged cars, Hemi and motorcycles; even then you still might FAIL. He gives essay topics LATE an expect them to be done a day later.

HORRIBLE. Spent a ridiculous amount of time writing his papers to try to perfect it to his requirements. Even when u write your paper on how the tone of the author effected the reader (thats what he asked) he'd comment saying you should have focused on the tone itself instead. This happened to a student and I. He'll twist his words to fail you. "C"
He's not as bad as people make him out to be. Just show up and do all the quizzes and you'll pass. He has clear criteria for all his essays so if you follow that you'll get atleast a B. He's strict when it comes to handing things on time so he holds you accountable for mishaps. Other than that, he helps you if you go to his office hours.

As long as you know the readings and you follow the structure he says, you can get atleast a B. If you want a B or higher, you have to see him outside of class. he's really nice when helping
My writing skills have progressed because of this teacher, but then that is the man's job. The thing is your papers will not be graded based on their quality. The grading scale is only to compare your work with his. The only was to pass with the anything above a C+ or B- is to write in his style. Quizzes every class.

DO NOT take his class. If you can take another professor, DO SO. This man is beyond a tough grader. If you don't write papers the way he would, you'll be lucky to get a C-. I wrote my last in-class paper PISSED because of my last grade (D+) and got a B on it... He apparently prefers crap to quality. Seriously though, don't take his class.

If you are taking him for the first time, trust me you will not get a good grade. This man grades very tough and during class all he does is talk about his life and his daughter which nobody cares about. if you don't have to take him PLEASE DON'T.
Can not stand him. He thinks he's superior to other experienced writers, so forget about trying to please him as a student. I'm forced to dumb down my essays becase that's what he likes. IMPOSSIBLE to get above a B on any writing. He's extremely rude and insensitive and could care less for the success of his students. Avoid his class at any cost.
The class was pretty tough for me at the start of the semester. If you can't handle criticism, don't take his class. Following his (or as he says the proper) format is essential to passing as anything less will be a C or worse. Definitely the hardest English class I ever had but I really learned a lot. He's funny every now and then as well.
Writing format is very restricted. If you think writing should be free and viewed from various perspectives do not take his class. Essays must follow his formula. Never got higher than a C on essays. Readings are a must and analyzing and annotating them is needed to keep up. Would not take him again
Probably the worst decision you can ever make during your 4 years at Rutgers. No matter how hard you work for his class, it never pays off. You just get a D or below at each assignment and then you don't even feel like working anymore for his class.
I had Professor Zeugin for Eng102 and tbh I was scared when I saw the ratings but I had no other choice. He isn't as bad as people make him up to be. He's pretty friendly, scary at times but you just have to participate in class. Make an effort and following the format and you shouldn't do too bad. I got away with a C but I definitely had to work
I'm writing this review in class. I have him for ENG 099, and it is the WORST DECISION I'VE MADE AS A FRESHMAN. However if you take him, go to his office hours and don't ask him too much questions (he'll see you as a dumb person and will be irritated). You'll be the luckiest person on earth if you get a B as your final grade.
A tough grader, but care about your grade. Always go to his office hours, that will help you a lot. I learn a lot from his class. Also, he gives a lot of quizzes which could be annoying but helps.
Upon reading the reviews, I was skeptical about taking Professor Zeugin. However after sitting in his class and analyzing his teaching methods as well as his likes and dislikes, and what he expects from an essay, he is by no means a bad professor. He is tough, but that's because he genuinely cares about the competence of his students writing.
He did teach some good concepts but he is the toughest grader I've ever seen.
I struggled with this class because I am a procrastinator and had other things to handle, so I thought I was going to fail, but he worked with me. He is a good teacher, and although he was hard, I did learn a lot and feel I'm a better writer. A lot of people did not like his class, but the way he pushes you as a writer will pay off in the long run.
Mr. Zeugin has all my respect as a person but not as a teacher. He expects you to fully know everything that he is talking about and expects you to know how to write. His review over an essay is very brief and vague of what he wants you to do. Even after following the paragraph structures, he still views my papers as inadequate. Would not take!
Zeugin is probably the worst professor I've had! I did everything I possibly could to get better grades in his class but he does not care!! AND I had a GRADUATE student help me write my papers! Went to his office hours several times to fix a paragraph, only for him to REFIX WHAT I FIXED WITH HIM on my final paper! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
ZEUGIN is a total hardass. He's a respectable good writer, but this year my class was very underprepared for his level of writing in 102. He's even said 101 teachers didn't prepare us well, and he still chooses to grade our class based on his criteria not on our progression as learning writers. Horrible teacher, gives contradictory feedback, and is almost never available after class. If you consider yourself a good writer get ready to be challenged, and if you consider yourself a below average writer who may not be pursuing an english based major stand clear of this class. If you feel like lowering your GPA feel free to take his class.
He doesnt care. During the COVID and being online, he wouldnt even be generous to at least give a C. He doesnt answer all your emails, and when he does hes very sarcastic and rude. When he grades your essays, never gives good feedback. Just dont take him, or if youre given to him drop him immediately!! Im not even exaggerating, Do NOT!!

This man made my first year of college awful! No matter how much time and effort I put into a paper, I never get higher than a C. He doesn't care at all. I am in 098 for a reason. He knows that our writing is not the best, yet he still grades tough. IF YOU ARE GIVEN HIS CLASS, DROP IT! This man will have you punching your computer screen.
Tough grader. He finds fault in everything. He makes me anxious and I am not able to write well. Everything you do is wrong. You end up learning nothing at the end of the semester but rather, pleasing him. Don't take him unless you have no option.
I took this professor last semester. All I'm going to say is if he is given to you - or you decided to take him. Please, for your sake. I took his class with people who write BETTER than me and turns out they failed come to find out. No matter what, you WILL fail. Do not waste your time, find a better English Professor. Zeugin was English instructor freshman year in the fall of 2020. Now I will not use the pandemic as an excuse for my performance in this class, but he did not make the transition from high school to college easier for us. Nor was he sympathetic. Aside from that, he didnt seem welcoming and this made me not want to reach out about questions I had.
Professor Zeuguin was a tough professor, but he taught me a lot and helped me improve my writing skills. I would recommend taking him if you are up for the challenge.
Reviews essays with us and values participation. Definitely makes you work for the grades but a sarcastic hardass. Made me realize that he's one of those professors who thinks students don't have a life outside of class. I was surprised to see mostly everyone fail even when alot of effort was put in. Honestly wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Don't let him intimidate you. As long as you show up and listen to what he has to say you should be good to go. struggled in the beginning of the course but once I started showing up to not only class but office hours my grades started to pick up with it. And now he is one of my favorite professors.
This class was definitely a challenge. Be prepared to a challenge with Proff. Z. Make sure you read the syllabus before class and make sure assignments that are on syllabus for that day ARE COMPLETED. He will expect you to walk into class with assignments handed in. Also make sure to print all readings and make sure to annotate prior to class.
He shows zero interest in wanting to help you improve, and he puts "IRRELEVANT" all over your paper rather than directly showing you the problem. Good luck surviving his course if you thought you knew everything about English Comp 101! At the end of the semester, you MUST turn in most of your work, which counts for a large portion of your grade.
350 cant fit my hatred. he may seem ok at first,but he will talk for 40 minutes straight about nonsense trying to prove how cool and academic he is. even if youre an amazing writer,put in hours upon hours into your work, and turn everything in, you will still not be content. slow boring voice, awk long eye contact. please listen.take a diff prof.
Went into this class being an Honors English student in hs and still got a low grade. If u wanna ask a question he's either gonna give you a sarcastic answer and not address anything you asked or he's gonna make u feel dumb. If you think ur good at writing, according to him ur not. Save yourself and don't take this class. Would rate a 0 if I could
Avoid this professor. He doesn't really teach you to write better, spends the whole class talking about nonsense and irrelevant stuff and cracking unfunny jokes. Very heavy in reading, lots of reading and writing each week. Very tough grader, the feedback doesn't even make sense or is too broad. You'll most likely gonna get a C, or B- if ur lucky.
Worst English Professor. You will not learn how to write at all in this class. He has unclear grading criteria and a very very harsh grader no matter how hard you try. He makes very awkward eye contact and always talks about irrelevant stuff during class. Please take a different professor.
My only negative mark so far, absolutely hated the guy by the end of the semester. Taking his course is like attempting to befriend a rival, not gonna happen. His grading style was harsh like taking an honors course w/o the benefit. Not recommended by any means.

Has an attitude for no reason, even if you were a very good essay writer in high school, do not expect to get a good grade from this man,finds every reason to give you a B or less on a paper. My highest grade on paper was 86 after getting As consistently in high school. The class average always is around a 85 or less. CHOOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!
Straight A student that takes pride in their writing ability. This is the kind of professor who believes "Nothing can be perfect" --- Therefore no one will get an A. Will heavily dock points for subjective nonsense. Doesn't realize people are trying to get out of his class to get an unrelated job. We don't need you staining our GPA for your ego.
He is actually a great professor, despite what everyone says. I was placed into 102 my freshman year because of AP credits and I thought he was great. If you actually pay attention in class and care about school and learning, passing this class is easy. It is true that he is a tough grader, but that doesn't mean getting a good grade is impossible.

DON'T TAKE ZEUGIN. I learned nothing from this class except how to reword my sentence in a hundred different ways to not use LY or ING words because he doesn't like them. He gives us vocab words but then thinks that "utilize" is too extra. This man doesn't even know what he wants so are we supposed to??

Professor Zeuguin runs a tough class, but engaging with his system can really improve your writing skills. Prep with Unstuck AI and the free textbook - the lectures are worth attending to understand his feedback. Not an easy A, but worth the challenge.
He teaches on tangents, so be prepared not to learn anything. He will give out F's like Opera. I was a straight-A student in high school, got AP credits and everything, and I needed to take a W because he would give out a bad grade because he felt like it. Terrible professor. If he's the only professor left, don't take him.
This professor is condescending, talks about irrelevant topics, and answers questions with long rants that don't help. Grades aren't posted, essays are 98% of your grade, and quizzes barely count. He comes in with an attitude and makes rude comments. Avoid this class if you can—it's stressful, unfair, and not worth it.
