Not an easy class for some who don't completely understand law, BUT he makes himself available for questions to help you understand.
hes awesome. tough class but great guy. looks exactly like donahue
Good professor, hard tests
Really nice guy. Talks kind of fast though, so sometimes you miss what he's saying while trying to take notes. Always willing to help you if you have questions. Tests are kind of hard, but he curves. Would definitely recommend that you try to go to class as much as possible.
Very nice and personable. Take good notes, many questions on the tests are scenarios from the lecture not found in the book or his powerpoint. The test questions are all case scenarios, 25 multiple choice, and very hard, but he curves 1 to 2 questions and 88 is an A, so if you score 80, you may get an A.
Talks really fast. Tests are tough. But he's fair and a good teacher overall.
this is a hard class...but if u study the slides and the study guide the test is pretty simple. you just have to really understand and apply all definitions to real life situations. if you can do that it should be no prob
This class is difficult; however, if you pay attention in class and take good notes-you can get an "A". He does not mind when students ask questions -and he gives quizes almost everyday-but there only 3 questions and he gives lots of hints during the quiz. A very nice teacher and this was one of my favorite classes.
He gives curves and his grading scale makes it easy to pass with a decent grade!
Brilliant, passionate professor. Treats students with respect and doesn't insult your intelligence. But, he lectures at lightning speed; so, write really fast and listen carefully to the lectures (especially the case examples).
I really thought I would hate this class, but I really enjoyed it. He is very animated and expect him to start yelling about how this or that case was a really screwed up decision on the part of the jury or judge!Plus he kinda looks like Einstein which makes it even funnier. It's all case law and he covers everything in lecture. Go to class = pass.
This class was extremly boring!!!!!! His test are a little hard. but he adjust the grading scale based on class performance.
I love this guy. He really loves law which makes the class more interesting. He likes getting questions and raising debate. Listen carefully and take notes, his tests are tricky but he curves each one according to overall performance. 13 easy in-class quizzes but he drops the lowest 3.
Extremelyboring!!!! His tests are tricky, so you really need to take good notes and pay attention.
this guy looks just like phil donahue...reason enough to take the class if you ask me.
He is HILARIOUS! I swear he's the Dr. Phil of Business Law. He has a wealth of knowledge and is eager to share it with his students. He gives detailed notes and lots of examples. There are only 3 tests which makes it hard if your not a good test taker since he tests on concepts and not definitions. Overall GREAT CLASS!
The book and a course notes pack are required. You must do the reading to get a good grade in this class. He makes it a lot of fun and is willing to answer questions. Very inciteful!
If you read the book, go to class, and take notes in the course pack you can get a A.
Great instructor. Thought the class was one of the best so far. Go to class, listen and take good notes and you will do fine on the tests.
He's a cool guy. Creates interesting discussions and made business law pretty interesting. Was really helpful in the grading, when he got behind in the chapters at the end of the semester, he made the final exam optional.
One of the coolest professors i've had yet. He talks pretty fast but explains everything. His tests aren't that bad if you study. He gives 10 true/false quizzes throughout the year but he lets you know when they are comming. I highly reccomend him. If you take notes and study for the test you will do just fine
Tests came out of left field and only consisted of 25 questions. You have to read the book and have a THOROUGH understanding of the information. However he did curve. He gave 9 T/F quizzes throughout semester and told you when we would have them. Class was extremely boring.
You have to read all of the chapters (& cases) to do well. Zugelder can be pretty funny and very helpful if you ask questions, tests can seem like they come from nowhere if you don't read. Prob. a tougher law prof. @ ODU than others but a good guy. Made me actually interested in law & lawschool.
Attendence not mandatory. He talks extremely fast & you really have to pay close attn to get all the notes. You must really know the material for the exams because they aren't that easy if you just skim the book. 10-12 quizzes & drops lowest 2. Nice guy. class can be extremely boring but i would still recommend him.
He loves his Law subject and tries to make it interesting and funny during class. He speaks really fast..and you must follow the Case studies in class because the tests will have similar ones. Attendance is not require..but you will want to come. He curves his grades..and he is real nice.
He is VERY nice and it's an interesting class, but expect 3 tests and some quizzes, the quizzes are easy, but the tests are SUPER hard, there is simply no way you know what the correct answer is unless you think just like him, extremely hard and unclear. AVOID!
Nice guy and very smart. Took him for a 4 week summer session. 3 tests, all with 25 multiple choice questions, also ten quizzes with 3 true/false questions, the lowest two get dropped. I got a B overall. The subject matter can be tricky sometimes, but it's nothing you can't handle if you just study. Take him!
One of the best in odu. Got A.
good teacher. funny and knows his stuff. go to class and pay attention and you wont even need to study for a good grade. he gives out 10 quizs and 2 are dropped. they are easy. 3 tests that are multiple choice. overall cool teacher.
He is very knowledgeable about the law! I would certainly recommend taking this class with him because it will be memorable!
Great teacher. No cumulative final or homework, 10 pop quizzes with 2 dropped, and tests are MC but you still have to study to get B or higher.
Nice guy, kinda funny. Very knowledgeable :)
This wasn't an easy class but if you listen to him in class the quizzes are easy and if you study from the book also you should do fine on the tests. There's about 10 quizzes and he drops the lower 2. The test is really critical thinking and situational, not just terminology.
Very knowledgable and interesting to listen to. Be prepared to listen to him talk for the full amount of time in class. There is little room to participate. There are 3 exams that are challenging and require critical thinking. The exams are 25 question M/C. There are 10 quizzes, lowest two dropped, and they are very easy.
This class was surprisingly easy for me. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do well. My studying consisted of reviewing my notes for about 30 minutes before each class, and I got a B+. 10 quizzes and three exams. No surprises. You don't need the book if you go to class. If you miss a class though, it's easy to fall behind.
Dr. Zugelder is a funny guy and makes class interesting. You don't need to buy the "guide" he recommends because you can just print the outline of his powerpoints from blackboard and take notes. The book is thick, but he doesnt cover all the chapters. His tests are tough because its situation based questions so read and pay attention
His tests make you think. He does not hand out grades, you must earn them. Slight curve by shifting grading scale. 3 tests and 10 "easy quizzes." Lowest two quizzes dropped.
This class is completely insane. Prof Zugelder is a lawyer and you can tell during his lectures. No matter how much I attended class and studied, I couldn't get over a 68, which to him is a C. His grading criteria makes the class bearable. He is a decent professor, but the classmaterial is terrible.
so i dont quite understand why he has a good rating here. his test are ridiculously hard, each question is a paragraph of a legal case and you have to read and decided what law applies to it. for your own good look for a better rated professor
It's law so of course it gets a little boring but Mr. Zugelder does a good job of keeping it entertaining. Tests are all multiple choice but they are hard! You need to know the different terms inside and out. Pay attention to the cases he goes over in class.
Good class. Tests can be difficult; have to know the terms well and apply the to cases. Grading scale is adjusted, so that's pretty nice. No extra credit offered. You have to really work for the grade you want.
I am so glad I was in Professor Zugelder's class for FIN 331. He does an amazing job of clarifying and condensing a dense and complex body of law. I found his lectures really interesting and I liked his sense of humor. I highly recommend getting the lecture guide for his class from the ODU bookstore: its cheap and will save you a lot of effort.
Professor Zugelder is very knowledgeable about the subject & welcomes questions. FIN 331 requires a lot of critical thinking, which is good; but it's easy to miss ?s on tests (3 w/ 25 ?s each) and quizzes (10 w/ 3 ?s each, lowest 2 dropped) even if you studied. Best to take notes from both the book & lecture and attend class. Tough but doable.
I enjoy his lectures. He breaks down the materials and explain them in plain language. This makes it easier to understand because the book is so dense to read. He seem to talk fast at first but you will get use to the pace. Tests can be difficult but he curves so that is a big plus for passing! I recommend taking him.
the class is composed of 3 exams multiple choice. his test are very difficult to understand. He includes a lot of cases in his exams. I wouldn't recommend taking this class with him.
Do not buy the textbook, it is not needed. All you need is his booklet from bookstore (he gives an extra handout) and your notes. All you need to do to pass is read over your notes/booklet and mainly the handout and you will pass. The textbook just makes the material more confusing as it is very dry material. Tests are hard and has pop quizzes.
I took this class online, it was tough but if you work hard you can do well. Use the outlines he provides when you are reading each chapter. There were 10 quizzes and 3 tests, no final. The quiz and test questions are multiple choice and they are very focused on concepts, don't memorize definitions. He was responsive and let me take a test late.
Only grades are tests and daily quizzes. He curves the grades and really knows what he is talking about. Tests are hard and you will need to work for your grade, but he is willing to help as much as he can. Pay attention to his examples and you should be fine. One of the best choices for this class.
Quizzes every class. Only 3 tests no homework. Curves every test. He's an amazing professor who knows the material and explains it well. Highly recommend. No proctor U. Uses scantrons
If you take this class with any other prof., you've wasted your time. He doesn't care about specific court cases, just that you understand the core concepts. He has "Easy Quizzes" that live up to their names (3 TF Questions) and his tests are based on scenarios and if certain concepts would apply to them, which are easy if you study your notes.
This class was HARD, the grading scale is out of 350 points- 3 tests and 10 quizzes. He tests you as if you are a law student. Even if i went to every class, studied a lot for tests; i couldn't get over a 68 which thankfully he considers as a C. You have to work hard for a good grade, best to make a study group.
Hardest online class I've taken at ODU. Use the PLE interface which sucks. The information on PLE is not really help for the chapter quizzes which are 5 questions T/F worth 10 points each. Test are much worse than the quizzes. He curves exams based on how well people do. Im and A/B avg student but was not in this course unfortunately.. Good Luck
Zugelder is an enthusiastic professor, 10 start of class pop quizzes and 3 exams. The textbook is good for understanding the concepts but make sure you can apply them in scenarios. Pay attention to the cases he talks about in class
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONE SESSION ONLINE CLASS IF YOU HAVE A FULL-TIME JOB! You will not have a lot of time, you will be too tired to do any homework after work. It's even worse if you are so close to graduating, you just don't feel like doing anything school-related.
i took the 3 week intensive. this is by far, the hardest class ive taken the entire time ive been in college & ive taken a few intensives. i am a senior now. however, mr zugelder was very helpful. 10 t/f quizzes, 3 tests. LOTSSS of reading. tests are lots of scenarios so be able to apply concepts! he did curve tests.
I suggest taking the full semester class. I took the 6 week class while taking 3 other classes and it was the most stressful class I've ever taken. I will impart the key to passing to you, don't bother reading, just use notes and do the LearnSmart questions and study those. Google any terms you don't know. Nice guy though and funny.
10 quizzes were easy, 3 tests through lockdown browser were hard (avg. 65). Online sources weren't helpful BEWARE. He responded to emails & gives feedback. He curved one test. Grading scale worked in my favor
We had 10 quizzes & 3 tests. You have to really understand the topics & be able to apply them to different scenarios because what you learn & the examples you're given in class, most of them don't match up with the tests. He's an okay professor & he curves tests. Since there are few assignments, you need to know the material to get a good grade.
Hardest class I've ever taken. I don't know how anyone can get better than a D without cheating. This will likely be my first D ever, and I'm a senior. There is no way to prepare for these test as you aren't really given an opportunity to apply what you've studied. There has to be a better professor for this class. Avoid by all means necessary!
Holy God, where do I start? This class was by far the hardest class that I have ever taken. The midterm and final are worded in a way that most of the answers seem like they are correct. All I will say is know your stuff, cause if you don't you will fail. He does curve and honestly that is the only thing that saved me.
Hardest class I have ever taken. I am a straight A student and this was my first ever C if he didnt curve the exams, I wouldve failed. No extra credit. Only quizzes and 3 exams, and thats it. If you dont do well on those, youll fail. The exams are PURELY SCENARIO BASED! The lectures are dry- law after law after law! Stay away if you can!
Tough class, you should attend class and really pay attention, and a lot of reading. I did not use the textbook and managed to pass. A lot of the questions on the teats have two possible answers that could make sense.
Nice guy, hard class. If you want to pass study Jane Mallor Business Law textbook its a free PDF online! Tests are worded in a way that make you second guess yourself, very hard unless you study heavily. Good luck!
If you rely on video lectures, do not take this course. I am an A/B student and this is the worst class I have ever taken. A lot of time is spent reading PLE and Textbook just to hit submit on tests and be disappointed. Grade consists of 3 tests, 10 T/F 5 minute quizzes with no backtrack. He curves based off the highest test score it seems like.
Weekly T/F quizzes that are DIFFICULT!!!!! Those grades will save you if you do well on them because the tests are HARD!!!! No extra credit, will do a minor curve on exam grades, and don't bother reaching out for help because his solution is "drop my class for a different professor" OR "you only need a D to pass my class".
The class content was challenging, but the lectures made the content clear. Exams are situational and challenging. Class is graded on a curve, so as long as you put the time in to study, you should do well. Periodic quizzes were very similar in wording to exams. Going to class is extremely important, and buy the lecture guide at the bookstore.
AWFUL, the material is tough and professor could not be any less helpful. If you reach out his literal responses are "you only need a D" and he refused to explain a concept to me although it had a different answer in the textbook. Uses dry video lectures and is an overall lazy and horrible professor. Exam curves are only thing that saved me.
Dont take this course. My GPA was 3.85 until this class. The only grades are 10 5 question T/F quizzes and 3 25 question MC tests. The test questions are ambiguous. No one earned an A on any test or in our course. No extra credit. No practice tests. Online resources will not help you prepare. Curve decisions erratic. Bad course stay away.
AVOID THIS CLASS. 10 T/F quizzes and 3 25 ques MC tests are all you get. No EC, erratic curve decisions. Not responsive to pointing out the questions seem wrong. Insuffficient practice material. Online resources no help. No one got an A on any test or the course. No teaching actually done. Filing formal complaint. Bad Class!
Hard Test Grader. Quizzes and Tests are no where near the same. Easy Quizzes, unfortunately difficult Tests.
Only grades were 3 tests. I literally would not know what was going on if I didn't read the textbook.
Please listen and do not take this course. He was unhelpful and his tests are off. Multiple students reported that the answers were weird and he refused to check. Majority of us failed the tests even though we all studied.
I see the other reviews, but I did not have a bad experience with Professor Zugelder. He is a nice guy, the quizzes were easy, and I buckled down and got decent test grades. It was not an easy class, but I have taken far more difficult courses. Just make sure you study, and he makes it clear what we should study as well.
This class is by far the most difficult class I have ever taken at ODU. Graded by few things, and while other students report curves, be warned he will not do that for every class. Our class received no curves at all. Studying did not help and many students reported that the questions on tests seemed to have the wrong answers.
This was the first class I have ever failed and I am so disappointed. Quizzes are the only grades, and the consist of FIVE TRUE OR FALSE questions.. you get one wrong and its automatically an 80%. Class mean for test 1 was 65 and mean for test 2 was 64. Peers in groupme are all struggling with the same concerns.
The online course was not great. I liked the case commentary but that's about it. The course completely hands off by the professor. There's no discussion or feedback. Can't recommend his online class.
Do not take this professor. Lectures are awful, long, and extremely boring. The only graded items are pop quizzes and his tests. The tests are basically 50 long paragraphs with questions after each one. I had to drop so it didn't mess up my GPA.
This professor does not respond to any issues you may have. his teachings are unclear and do not match his assignments whatsoever. there is no room for extra credit or dropping assignments. therefore if you take this professor, prepare for atleast a C- in the class...
Please listen to other 1 star reviews. Class consisted of 3 tests and 10 quizzes. Quizzes were 5 true or false questions. They aren't super easy either and can drop your grade quickly. Tests were LENGTHY questions, get lost in multiple sentences questions. I read the textbook & studied only to get a C. I've never received a C in any other class.
The far the hardest class I've ever took at ODU. He does NOT give extra credit at all, absolutely NO curves. Took this class online and the course work was a total of 10 quizzes (one attempt only) and 3 exams. THATS ALL. Very hard, no room to even learn from your mistakes. He purposely phrases his tests/quiz questions in a tricky way too.
Professor Zugelder is so dope, not to mention handsome!! His class is definitely difficult but if you ask questions and spend minimal time studying you'll do just fine. Some people say he's difficult but if you listen intently to his lectures you'll find out how funny and informative he is! Also he gave us extra credit and curves tests
Class was self taught, all online. Only grades are quizzes and three tests. No curves and no extra credit. Test questions are worded poorly and confusing. Tests are taken online through lockdown browser. Nothing overly difficult and certainly better than professor Larkin's FIN331 class. Read and re-read test questions and you will do ok.
I would say it's easy to pass but not get an A. 10 quizzes 3 tests. scenario based questions no straightforward from the text type answers. No extra credit no homework. read the modules BUT look up topics you may not understand well to prepare for the tests. overall would take again
This class is so boring and the PowerPoints he teaches from are so useless. His lectures feel like a 10 hr seminar!!!! The test are nothing like what he teaches from!! It's long scenarios and we have to choose what type of case is this or if it has jurisdiction stuff like that!! It's very difficult!!! I get A's and B's !!! This class is dumb!!!!!!
This class was impossible to know what was going on because the professor sent out one announcement the first day of class and that was it. No study guides, the lecture outlines had page numbers from the book, but didn't even match the book. Would not recommend.
Very dry lectures. You must read and study the book to pass. He does curve exams but class only graded by in-class T/F quizzes and exams.
Very hard grading. Only a few tests and all questions were trick questions. Often you needed to know things not taught in class or the textbook to get the right answer. Class average on all tests was awful. The information taught was very interesting and overall I felt I learned a lot, however beware as this class will bring down your overall GPA.
