Mike is the grand master of physics. Everything taught was very straightforward, and an emphasis of understanding always came first.
He is totally crazy! He talks about everything, class feels like a boring seminar. But his tests are very easy.
I absolutely LOVE this man! i had him for astronomy ... and the class is soooo easy and interesting. All of his tests are taken straight from the homework! AWESOME!!!!!
WOW, i just finished this class and I can honestly tell you it was the most interesting class ive taken so far at LMU. the lectures are really interesting and the tests arent too bad. Hes really flexiblea bout the hw too. I strongly recommend this teacher
By far the best class I've taken. He makes an already interesting subject even more compelling. I will probably take more astronomy classes elsewhere because of this class. About the class: You can turn in homework whenever you want and you don't even have to do all the chapters, he doesn't take attendance, and his tests are of mediocre difficulty.

Seriously, take this man's class. So interesting and love him. If you're dreading taking your Science Core like I was, then fulfill it with this class! The quiz questions are all from the chapter reviews in the book and he is so funny and adorable! And all the classes were so interesting. He rarely takes attendance.
i liked him, he was a lot of fun. he made you want to learn about the universe and because he knows so much (he's a genius!) he can really get you into the class. plus you can ell he loves what he does and that just encourages you to be a better student. take this class especially if you need to fulfill your science.
Really smart guy! He makes you want to learn. Tests and quizzes are straight from the book! This is definitely a class you should take.
A cynic.Doubts your credibility. In office hours and in class, implies that you haven't tried the problem you are asking a question about, when you spent half an hour on it before you asked a question. Also, enjoys making public comments like,"did you even try the problem?"He has favorites.Gives favorites more extra credit than others.I had clear proof.
it just seemed like there was no structure to his class, this guy was all over the place and he wants you to do the hw problems before office hours, minding that he never shows you examples in class. don't take this guy, and oh yeah he picks favorites too in class, don't take him
Is helpful if you ask questions and go to his office hours. If you do the homework and understand it you will have no problem on the tests. Very funny when he goes into stories about his life. The class is very straightforward.
He is a really nice and fun guy who is easy going. Quizzes about every other week and the midterm and final. Not hard if you do the homework and read the book. Always comes to class with a smile.
really nice but goes off on long tangents about his childhood. make sure you do the homework. his quizes are harder than the actual tests. most of the time you dont need to go to class because he does not explain things well you can learn the material faster by reading the book.
awful teacher... didn't teach anything relevant in class. quizzes count for a lot, homework is a must, and don't expect him to do many examples of problems in class. tends to go off on tangents in class and not cover anything relevant in class, so you basically have to teach yourself out of the book... it's your lifeline!
Avoid him. I was good at math but he makes the concepts more confusing. If you take the class the book is a better professor and his classes are useless. He is super confusing. His tests arent that bad but because he doesnt teach they seem harder. Try to avoid him
I am a 4.0 biochemistry freshman and I had a difficult time with this course. I think his classes are interesting and the course would be much easier if you didn't have to cover sixteen chapters within a semester.. that is the hardest part. He is a great teacher who is more than willing to help you out. His tests and grading are fair.
Great teacher, BUT: if you haven't taken physics prior, this class is very difficult but doable if you put in the effort. I am on my way to receive an A- but I read every single chapter and did every odd problem in the book. If you're not a genius and you don't want to put in the time plan on getting a C in the class. Definitely a weeding out class
I have never taken physics before but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. He definitely challenges you to do your best but he is always available for extra office hours and he is prompt with getting back to you. This class was hard but he's a fair grader and gives a LOT of partial credit. Getting an A was doable even though I am not a science major.
He is seriously the best teacher I've had this year! Soo smart and interesting. This class is challenging but awesome. I don't want it to end!!! Definitely take this teacher if you can, he's really nice too!
awesome definitely watch his lectures!
This guy is great. He has a ton of videos online doesn't use jargon, and goes step by step. I like that he is accessible, through his videos, at anytime. I have a part-time and I don't always have time to go to my real lecture. He is a great alternative.
I was under the impression I'd be taking an astronomy course, not a lesson in fun facts. The homework was barely relevant to what was covered in lecture and expected of you on tests, and turned out to just be over 25 chapters worth of busy work for points. Avoid this professor, he's a nice enough guy, but shouldn't be teaching.
This guy is great
he is the best
youre the best
Difficult if you're not a science major, lots of busywork from the book, and often goes off on tangents about why global warming doesn't exist... not what I was expecting at all.
Really instructive video lectures on youtube. I wouldn't have been able to get through my physics class without them. I don't know what he's like as far as grading and tests since I didn't actually take his class, but he definitely knows how to teach. Even if you don't take him, you should use his ilecture vids on youtube to supplement your class.
He assigns homework for every chapter of the book . His lectures were sometimes confusing since he did not explain enough about how he carried out certain problems. He just writes equations that sometimes are irrelevant to the question and makes the material more confusing. The labs were difficult since he provides little to no instruction.
great prof
He is the best professor I've ever had!
he is the man
He is very friendly. I love the way he takes care of his student from all over the world. he has a youTube channel too
really good
He's the best! Very passionate about Astronomy and knows his stuff. Lectures are engaging and fun, but make sure you pay attention or you may get lost. Tests are relatively easy if you study, but make sure you do. Lots of busy work from the textbook, but not a harsh grader at all. Don't be intimidated - not a very science-major class at all.
he is the best professor I have studied from. Respect :) I always enjoyed the sessions and he cleared a lot of theories through nice stories
Smart and genius.
He's literally so entertaining and his lectures are super great and easy to follow. They may be a little long but if you pay attention, you can get an easy A for sure! He goes a little off topic every now and then, but his opinion is always super interesting. Be sure to do the homework assignments and observations because the little things count.
Online lectures on sharing platforms Currently in last senior year, going to College next year I am covering with him the portions of the program that are barely seen in my school (I live in France) or not seen at all, in order to expand my mathematical and physics knowledge.
This is not really an astronomy course, it's more of an 'Astronomy Trivia' course. He is so obsessed with little numbers and units but everything is presented in such a hand-wavy sort of way. Very little is explained or derived. Definitely a course for those who like to mindlessly memorize rather than actually understand anything.
He's a climate change denier, draw your own conclusions. You'll have to google his webpage since I can't post links here.
Really good. Simple, direct and clear explanations. I have benefitted a lot. I use these videos as supplement to the study done in class.
I've never taken him in person but I watch his ilecturesonline video. He is amazing. I really appreciate your efforts, professor!
Only know him from ilecturesonline but he truly taught me calculus based physics 1 2 and 3 in a way none of my professors at my top 50 university could.
awesome lecturer
He is very good at summarizing lessons at the end of his videos. I respect him and think he is a very excellent teacher.
Awesome human. Ask him about fighter jet navigation, he's an expert. Wish he made more videos online at "ilectureonline".
Great lecturer
its good. when i want a help sir's video is there for basic knowledge of electrical engineering.
Good teacher.
Please do not take this class. Like most of you are thinking I took it because space is cool and maybe interesting. This class is unnecessarily hard. Tons of busy work. extremely vague on study guides: "describe the structure of the universe." Unless you want to memorize a ton of misc. facts, stay away. The curve is the only thing keeping me alive.
This guy teaches physics and chemistry better than anyone. Got an A in university physics 1 & 2 because of this guy, amazing.
he is one of the best physics lecturers in the world.
He presents as if he's a good lecturer but has very little actual content in his lectures--he just seems to spew constant fact after fact rather than building an intuitive picture of the world. While he'd be great for teaching non-majors, for physics majors who wish to learn rather than just hear the material, there are much better out there.
Homework is done for points and won't prepare you for tests. There is no correlation between whats in the textbook, whats in the lectures, and most importantly whats on the actual tests. tests are basically a collection of how many inane facts and numbers you can memorize. unhelpful, inaccessible outside class, no clear instructions for anything.
he is the best proffesor who is teaching fluid dynamics
great!
He is great!
he. is. perfect.
I don't go to this school but I came across his videos on youtube when I was struggling in physics. His videos are very insightful and he provides many sample problems and guides us through them. Accessible outside of class because his lectures are on youtube. And yes, those lectures are amazing. He is a lot better than my physics professors.
I am not from this college am from India. but i know him through his you-tube channel. His way of teaching is fantastic...... student out there are lucky to have a teacher like him..... having said that i am also one of the lucky student as i am also one of his student through you-tube thank you sir .....
i love him hes amazing
There is no doubting Professor Van Biezen's brilliance, but he has a tough time translating it into applicable material. Most of the test questions are random facts instead of conceptual information. Homework is excessive/time-consuming, but infrequently relevant to assessments. Lectures are long and his pace is rapid. Not available outside class.
He is simply the best.
Good professor, knows about Astronomy. His teaching is fine too. But there are two troubles: 1A lot of homework: questions from a very thick textbook, observations, castellation lists you need to do etc. If your schedule is busy, it'll be a trouble. 2He gets carried away by politics, and keenly opposes Global Warming, talks about it all the time.
He is such an amazing teacher!!!!
I do not attend LMU, rather I am an undergrad in engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada. I know Prof. Biezen through his YouTube channel. To say the least, his videos have helped me tremendously! He is a great Professor and I am certain anyone who is assigned Prof. Biezen is highly privileged!
Hes good
Amazaing
the best
Great YouTube tutorial. Great guy all around
He is just great
Very good. Clear and helpful. Known for his YT channel.
I went through his lectures via YouTube in preparing to go back to college for a degree in CS. Even though I have done PhD-level applied stats, I am a linguist and needed to review core math content to prepare for advanced calc. A HUGE HELP! Love the website, too. As a lifelong educator and software developer, I appreciate the effort and access.
I know this guy from his youtube channel and he is a king of every class.
He is the best prof ever
Amazing representation and the quality of given problems just after a great discussion of theory
HE IS AMAZING
HEAVY lectures that are more of rambles. It is extremely hard to follow material. There is no P.P. to help guide lectures, which makes note taking more difficult. Can't tell important info a part from irrelevant info during lectures. Tests are very difficult. Most of what is on the test was never discussed during class. Don't recommend!!!!!!!!
Amazing professor. Wish I could have the honor of taking a more mathematical course with him, however, my major's path wouldn't allow that. Professor van Biezen is brilliant! Makes scientific concepts almost intuitive. He has an answer for every question. And most importantly, he cares about his students and their learning experience.
He's a great person
Amazing prof, amazing lectures available online for everyone.
He is one of the best in the whole World. He've got the talent to explain difficult things simply I love his lectures
This man deserves a bronze star
first he promotes for his YT channel, his lectures are so heavy, his tests are difficult like the way he like to make every thing, some of the probs on the tests are not mentioned in class or mentioned very very briefly. He also wastes good 30 mins from every single lecture to talk about irrelevant things. Totally don't recommend him.
he is the best lecture ever
I found him through Yt but this guy is really amazing! Always find help in him!
I attended his astronomy online classes. The way he teaches is amazing. Brilliant professor. I understood astronomy better.
One of the best professors. A real gem.
VB is hands down the best professor I have ever had. I was like 1 of 25 crashing his course. He flat out let us ALL in his roster. He recognizes how screwed up the system is and is an advocate for his students. The coolest dude, great and entertaining lecturer, fascinting life, inspirational, and wise. Oh and btw, JUST WATCH HIS YT AND GET AN A.
His Good
Thanks to Almighty I found him on ilectureonline! One of the best part of his teaching is that he starts his lessons with concepts that are already familiar with us. Also, he gives logical and visual understanding of everything. Finding help in my A level studies
Best lectures
Brilliant and highly experienced professor. His knowledge is so deep and spans so many spheres ... truly outstanding.
Thank you so much! You're the reason why physics has been bearable. Sincerely, Sad Georgia Tech Student
A real gem and we are listening to him right befor our final exam night.
GREAT PROFESSOR. VERY THOROUGH WITH THE MATERIAL.
Best in the business
he saved my physics
amazing
He is the best i have ever seen professor on youtube like him before
Amazing proffesor!!
Amazing narration...
Best professor i had ever known
'Can't miss' kinda of professor.
The best professor if you really want to learn
This guy is awesome
Amazing teacher
A brilliant professor who makes physics digestible. Attend class, use the free textbook, and try unstuck study - it's a game-changer for study prep.
