No complaints. He's helpful when approached.
Dr.Virgilio is a nice man. He also knows what he's doing and always willing to help you out.
very good prof. easy quizzes & detailed notes which are very helpful. make sure you understand all the examples he gave for the main content.
He made difficult concepts simple to understand, he is genuinely concerned with students comprehension. Didn't bother deriving or proving formulas, but spent time on examples showing how to use them (unlike most math profs). He's the best prof if math isn't your thing; I'll definitely be taking more classes with him!
Really great prof! Has some funny jokes here and there. His notes are very straight forward with lots of examples, he makes very obvious hints towards what he is and isn't examining. If you do the work and ask for help when you don't understand something, you'll for sure get an A.
Made the class boring in the extreme, and I like math - I am a Physics major! Clearly was only there because he had to be. Very boring, but easy at this level.
He absolutely the right one to choose. He makes difficult concept clear to understand. I took math1500 and ended up with an A. Definitely nice proof to attend a class with. He gave hints as well as some jokes in the class. Thanks Virgilio :) Bu A
He can't mark exams properly and makes them extremely hard for no reason.
he is the best lecturer. Makes everything clear and easy to understand. He is willing to help and is very nice. You will never go wrong with him.
French accent, but not hard to understand what he says. Very friendly, and occasionally pretty funny. He "hints" towards what the (to-be-memorized) theory question is on the midterm / final.. and by hint I mean he totally gives it away for you. Notes are handwritten+very helpful. Pick this prof (: and pay attention in class. Little hints everywhere
Super helpful and nice guy. Always willing to extend office hours and stay late if necessary to help you. You'll do really well if he sees you putting in literally any effort at all. Also gives really straightforward answers and will sit there and do questions with you - even if they're for an assignment. Supposedly just as helpful on exams.
Excellent prof, makes everything very clear and is very helpful if you have any questions, he also clearly states important things to know for the exams I make sure I take every math class at u of m with him if at all possible. Merci beaucoup M.Virgilio!
He knows the material very well, and you could tell that he has put a lot of effort into his teaching.
RECOMMENDED. He prepares you for exams with questions that are very very similar to the ones he will ask you, so there are no surprises there. He is funny in a subtle and quirky way, so you'll most likely find him entertaining if you listen close. Examples in notes are also very clear and well structured.
Very good prof. He's very good at teaching the material and the examples in his notes are very similar to questions you will see on the final. Attendance is mandatory as he does the examples in class and does not put it in his notes automatically. Overall 10/10 prof. Merci beaucoup Michel Virgilio
Really Good Prof! :)
Really great professor, makes all his notes available online from the beginning of the year. Does examples in class, makes sure the students know whats going on, gives lots of hints and prepares you well for class, and makes a lot of dad jokes. He's really nice when you come to him for help, will see you outside of office hours. Also, hot damn.
Great professor, had him for calc 1 and 2 and he was very helpful for both classes. If you have any questions he will help you, and he also gives great hints as to what he expects you to know for the exams he gives.
Very easy-going, explains the concepts very clearly. However, there is a lot of material to cover and if you lag behind, you'll get lost and won't do well. Study, study, study!
Good prof. The best thing about him is his notes. Concepts are well written down and you just have to listen to his explanations and write down his examples. Tests were also fair, it was easier than the previous exams. It seems like English is not his first language so sometimes he can't understand what students are asking. but, overall, good prof.
Great prof. He posts all his notes online so you can just print and follow them in class. Does a lot of examples so you understand how to do them. Also, has REALLY nice handwriting which is a bonus.
Although I've seen him only once on the final exam day, he was nice and helpful. His assignments are easy if you study very well. The final wasn't bad either. I used Grant's book to study for this course and it helped me a lot. You can also email the prof and ask him questions. Better yet, go to his office hours and he can explain anything for you.
Excellent Professor. He gives a lot of example in the lecture, and try him best to help you get high marks. If you work, you can get good marks.
Super awesome class. Notes are clear, the professor is interested in what he is teaching, and humorous while lecturing. Would take again!
Very funny prof. Explains concepts thouroughly.
This prof was unreal! Michel was very enthusiastic about teaching the course, and actually had me engaged at 8:30am during summer session. His notes and writing are very clear and organized, and he posts the notes ahead of time, so that when you go to class you just need to write down the examples. I would definitely take a course with him again!
He definitely has a good cheesy sense of humour. He is kind of arrogant and likes to bring up that he did calculus in grade 11 when he lived in France. His grading criteria doesn't exist and will take marks without explanation even after meeting him in his office.
Good Math Prof! I'm not a math person but I learned a lot and enjoyed his summer classes. His notes are very clear and gives tonnes of examples. He explains material clearly and stresses what will be on the exam. He is super friendly and cares for his students in and out of class. He is adequately available in his office hours. Great guy!!
He's decent, very particular in marking though.
8:30 class so it was sometimes hard to stay awake. Fair tests and final exam, if you pay attention in class there is no reason not to do well as lots of hints are given. His notes are great in the fact you only need to write out the examples and not the theory. Would highly recommend to take this class with him.
I've had Michel 2 times now and by far my favorite prof. The examples he does in class and in the tutorials are almost identical to the ones in the term tests and final. If you do the examples in class, no problem for an A.
Knows his stuff. A good sense of humour. Makes the coarse easy, but only if paying good attention in class and doing his work sheets which he assigns for tutorials.
He is a picky marker, but his tests were very fair, and tested on the course material. He doesn't try to screw students over with trick questions or identities that you've never seen before. Very good prof
Usually, math lectures are dull and try but Virgilio was hilarious. You should definitely come to class because he will tell you exactly what you need to study for the midterm and the final.
His notes are straightforward but I would have liked a little bit more explanation. Other than that, he's pretty good.
I took math 1700 as an online course. He is really helpful, u just need to ask. Easy grader. Probably will take course w him again
Great Professor, very recommended to take 1500 and 1700 with him. Be ready to practice A LOT at home, if you want an A+. Really enjoyed the course. You'll not need the textbook, everything you need is the class notes, that you can fill only by coming to the class.
Great guy!
He is an amazing lecturer! He goes through examples very clearly and encourages participation. He makes it very clear on what concepts will be tested on and in general he emphasizes the key concepts. I took Math 1500 and 1700 (Calculus 1 and 2) with him and received an A's in both. Practice is of course important as in every class.
very recommended for math 1500/1700
great prof!
great prof!!
Great prof, and he gives lots of hints about what will be on the midterm and final. Lots of practise is required, as expected for calculus, but he gives lots of good examples in class, and will emphasize the ones that you need to learn for the midterm/final. If you're going to take calculus, PLEASE TAKE IT WITH HIM
He is a great guy. He's very nice
Awesome prof. Witty and hilarious. His lessons are never boring. On top of that, he knows his stuff really well. Attend his lectures and you will get at least an A. Gives useful tips for the midterm and final exam
His lectures were very clear, but you definitely need to do practice questions to do well on the exam.
Can't think of anything negative at all, absolutely amazing professor. Tells you what will be on the midterm, explains things VERY clearly and is an all around good guy (very funny too). Of course, you will still have to work hard (it IS a math course after-all!). Be prepared to set aside at least an hour or two a day to practice what you learn.
Dr. Virgillio is by far the best professor I ever had in my years at the University. This guy can teach and I wish that he teaches all the math courses. He is very approachable and always willing to stay back after class and help you out. Love this guy !!!
Great prof. Posts all his notes online before hand but you have to come to class to get the solutions for examples. The examples given are a good level of difficulty that will help for reference when doing textbook questions. Adds humour to his lectures and testing is fair.
This guy is the man. I am not even kidding. He explains so well that I decided to teach my friends how to use the matrix for encrypted messages about stuff(gossip). He is that teacher who will explain to you in details and all he wants in return is respect. I highly recommend you take this guy. BTW he is foreign but he's English is still good
Great prof, very humble and helpful; a rare quality.
One of the best professors at U of M. He cares about his students a lot, and always explains things very clearly. He also always taught us the application of what we were learning and why we were learning it. The course isn't too difficult. I studied for 1-2 hours a day and earned an A+. Definitely take this course with this prof if you can.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Attend classes and practice as he says and you will surely do well.
Amazing! His notes (which he posts online) are very organized and include many examples and his explanations in class are very clear. Lots of practice is still required outside of class (I definitely needed the textbook for practice problems), but if you attend the lectures and keep up with the work, with Virgilio you can easily get an A.
Great prof. If you have a chance, take his math class. Very helpful and his teaching style is just great. He will make math easy.
I wish I took him for my other math courses. His teaching style is awesome! I wish other profs would just take his example (do more practice questions in class and post notes online). I would definitely choose him if I had to take another math class given he's teaching it. He's also funny so there's that.
Virgilio is the prof to have if you want to do well in any math class. He has a great teaching style that facilitates taking notes. He is accommodating to students who want to see him outside of his office hours. The best part, is he pretty much shows you review questions before exams which are VERY similar to the questions for upcoming exams.
Personality: Humorous and easy to approach, slight accent but well not hinder understanding even if your English is poor. Lecture: Clear and loud (uses mic), all notes are pre-written in PDF's so lectures are always smooth sailing, goes over examples clearly. Tutorial: Tries to cover a variety of variation of problems, explains really well.
Beautiful prof. Explanations are concise and clear, and provides notes ahead of time (good notes, not poor slides made in paint). Lectures are amazing, and you can see he clearly cares about every student.
BEST Prof you can ever hope for. He basically lays down everything you will need for all your exams. Folow his notes and do his recommended problems and you can get a very good mark. I was taking math 1 while taking this course and if i had a different proff my life would of been a lot harder.
Funny. Nice guy. Tells us "secrets" about the midterm and final. He picked up my pencil for me once.
He is nice. Test you on what he taught, no trick. Do his previous years' exam, he will give similar to them, sometime just changing the number. He also gives lots of head up in class on what is coming or not coming in tests and exam, basically signalling you using humour, indirect way; you just need to understand it. BEST IN MATH DEPARTMENT.
Dr. Virgilio is a real gem. He has beautiful notes with everything you need to know on them and does lots of examples in class, all class. I will be telling my little sister to take all her Math courses with him. Virgilio if you are reading this you should publish a book with all the University Math courses notes. I'd buy it even though I'm BComm
Great prof. So many students from other sections come to his lectures as a result of how good he is. Does TONS of questions. Only disappointing thing is we finished learning concepts on friday and examined on tuesday(for the final and it was tough(I had an A+ going in)) but not his fault. has a french accent, but only adds to his great humour
As someone who didn't take AP Calculus and barely passed Pre-Cal in HS, I can say that Prof. Michel is an AMAZING Professor!! His Lectures & Notes are GOLD so attend all of them, he does enough steps for students that's weakness is math (like myself) and its very helpful. You can tell he wants everyone to do well in his class so PRACTICE EVERYDAY!!
Simply loved him; what a gem I am looking forward to taking his other math classes. As long as you participate do the lecture notes and do his review you should be able to walk away with at least a b+.
One of the best profs hands down at UofM, he explains concepts very clear, even if you don't pay attention in class his notes are very easy to read, it saves you time from reading the textbook. Doing the homework and old exams is critical for an A/A+. A few days before the exam he'll give you a review which pretty much tells you what to study for.
Explains all content thoroughly and in a way which keeps your attention, also a super cool guy in general.
One of the best profs I've had so far. He posts the outlines to the notes online and then you need to come to class where he does all the examples and you can fill the notes out. He is good at explaining concepts and gives great reviews right before exams so you know exactly what to study. Very organized, light accent but easy to understand.
Has great notes with lots of examples so you can go back later and review everything. Do all the practice questions from the textbook and the examples he posts online and you'll do fine in this course. He engages with the class and makes sure everything is easy to understand. Go to his review sessions as they are very helpful. Would 10/10 recommend
AWESOME PROFF! Just all around a good guy! Calc 2 sucks, no getting around that but if you have to take it, you MUST take it with him. DON'T waste money on the textbook, get Grants Tutoring booklet from the Copy Centre. Go to all classes and labs, go to all his office hours, he is very approachable and will go out of his way to ensure you succeed.
Very good teacher. His classes is very fun.
I really loved taking this class with him. He is really helpful and caring. Definitely, wants you to pass and very accessible outside of class. Would take with him every and anytime.
Great professor and great guy! Loved going to class with him teaching! He made everything so straight forward and was very organized. He also dropped a lot of hints for what would be on the exams and his exams are near identical to his previous exams. If you ever have to take a math class take it with Virgilio!
Probably the best professor I've ever had. He emphasizes the important concepts and spends time doing challenging examples in lectures. His lectures were enjoyable and I always felt like I learned something.
The prof is a real gem. He expects you to know your highschool math and calculus 1,2. He takes the time to review the material from previous math courses although it is not his job and he probably shouldn't. He has a very good sense of humor and his lectures are very interactive.
TO SAY HE'S AN AMAZING PROF IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT,VERY organized, offered to cancel his planned launch with other profs to help me even tho it wasnt office hours, he's exams are easy and he gives hints to whats gonna be there, so make sure to attend the lectures and tutorials, he's sense of humor was one of the motives that made me wake up at 7 every
There's no other way to put it: if you want an A in Math 2132, you must take it with Virgilio. He gives hints during class and tutorials about which questions will appear on the exams. His notes were so good, I never used the textbook! Very helpful outside of class. The class avg. for the Final was very high as well.
Michel Virgilio is the best professor at the University of Manitoba, always wanting to help you understand the course material and he also gives good life advice. I f u want to know and understand the content of your course and also have a reliable friend then take the course with him
Good professor. Makes things simple. Tests are very fair and makes sure everyone is well prepared. Be sure to attend his classes. Will take him again if possible.
Good Prof, awesome lectures, gives hints that help to study for evaluations. He expects you to have calculus 1 fresh in your mind, so it would be better for you to review those notes
Like any other Math courses, PRACTICE is a MUST! Never skip lecture because he gives great tips and as well as advices for the upcoming midterms and finals. Always take note of what he is saying during exam week. He's pretty funny as well which makes the class less boring.
Best prof I've ever had. His notes are very organized and he gives lots of hints regarding evaluations. It doesn't hurt that he has a good sense of humor as well.
Amazing professor. Very passionate about math, and genuinely cares and wants you to succeed in the course. He also has great notes so it is easy to follow along. His humour is endearing and makes the class enjoyable and he drops hints as to what will be on the midterm and final to help you prepare. 11/10 would take his class again!
Great prof, very clear and respectable. Notes are very easy to follow and show up to class to fill out all the examples in the notes
If you attend his lectures, you will know what kind of questions will appear in exams.
Virgilio is a real gem of a professor, always makes sure to not give his students surprises on their exams. Virgilio's lectures are hilarious.
Virgilio is a great professor explains things really clearly and lets you know what things you should cover more.
Absolute gem. Amazing professor. Take his class if you can
he is awesome!
