There are assigned seats in this class. Laptops/phones/electronics are not allowed in class or youll get in trouble. Calls you out if youre 1 minute late to class.
Seating chart, no technology allowed to be visible during lecture, no tests, essays instead - 3 total in the semester I believe, exit ticket after every lecture that is taken as a completion grade. Low rating because I hate writing essays
Lecture includes a lab. Get ready to set aside hours of your personal time to do heavy workload and lots of reading. No electronics, paper notes only. No tests or final exam, just 3 major writing assignments. Attendance is mandatory and exit ticket is due at the end of class every lecture or you get no participation points.
She's alright, what I don't like about this class is assigned seating. I am assigned a seat where the projector blocks my view making me unable to see the entire screen. The amount of work she gives isn't too much considering that you have an entire week to finish all assignments.
Professor responds really fast and very caring. Readings every week and sometimes it's overwhelming. No exam, 3 short writings, and a final paper.
As she is a new professor at the University of Houston she's still getting the hang of things, she's really strict when it comes to attendance and homework. she created a seating chart for the entire class of 500 people. But there could be worse and I was still able to get an A in her class.
Textbook is required but the quizzes on them are for a completion grade and are pretty easy. I don't mind the no technology rule and assigned seating since I have a pretty good view of the screen. As for the technology rule, I don't really mind because I just sit in class and listen and don't really take handwritten notes. I find the lectures fun.
I found myself falling asleep in her class. She makes you take a Lab along with attending lectures, Has ASSIGNED sitting and makes her TA's take attendance of everyone so being in your assigned seat is important. Can only miss 2 times the whole semester. Work load is extremely easy ,so that's the only reason I will take her again. TA's = amazing
Lectures are mandatory, but have nothing to do with what we talk about in lab or in the homework; there are weekly smart books & pre-labs, and 3 writing assignments throughout the semester with a final paper due at the end. No Tests. I would take her again because the workload is light but your TAs are the ones who grade your papers
She brings a lot of her opinions into lectures and leans heavily politically. She complains that she does not have enough time for her lectures but will spend 1/4 of her lecture time every week telling you not to cheat and show up to class. Mandatory participation, attendance, and seating chart. TA's walk around like a hawk to deduct points.
She doesn't lecture according to the weekly content that is described on Blackboard. She often spends too much time on one thins in an entire lecture but briefly goes over other equally important people and events in 5-10 mins. She's a good teachers if you want an easy A. When she grades the pre-labs she doesn't leave any notes to why she took off.
She doesn't lecture based on the weekly assignments you have to do. Her lectures aren't exactly insightful as she spends too much time talking about something that isn't exactly relevant. The essays, lab assignments and smartbooks aren't difficult but time consuming. Getting an A in the class is very doable if you put in the work.
if youre good at writing and hate tests take this course. there r no tests but there r 3 short essays and then 1 final paper. quiete easy. attendance is an absolute must. lectures r unhelpful. easy a as long as u do descent.
now did I get a 100% in this class? yes. would i take this professor again? no. lectures are unhelpful and boring, you learn based on the weekly assignments, assigned seats, and strict no phone policy. 3 short essays and 1 long essay. hopefully you get a good TA because they do all the grading.
This professor is rude! The TA's are nice though. When I had an immediate family tragedy happen just days before the semester started, she was not willing to give me any help to aid me during that difficult time. It was very hard for me to go to class, and she was not willing to accommodate at all. Participation will make or break your grade.
no exams for this course, to make up for it you have to do 3-4 major writing assignments throughout sem. There's a prelab assignment every week that is related to the lab class ur required to take and a weekly smartbook assignment. All this stuff is for a grade alongside attendance for both lab and lecture. u do most by urself but ta's are helpful
There are papers to write instead of taking tests. Attendance is mandatory since it counts towards ur grade. No using technology in the class or else you get points deducted from attendance. Lectures are not that helpful. There are pre-lab and smartbook assignments that are assigned weekly (which aren't hard. just time consuming).
I loved this class, attendance is mandatory but its not too bad. She is a very caring prof!! some homework but its not bad, no tests and 3 essays that are not long... easy A if you do the work.
I LOVED HER! I feel like she prepared me for the rest of univ with her expectations. She is very understanding when you have an issue. Even though there is a "no phones" and attendance rule, its not that big of a deal, she is understanding when you miss class and if you submit an excuse you wont get counted absent. She is by far on of my fav profs!
I took both HIST 1301 AND 1302 with this professor and was the easiest class I've taken. You are going to have a lot of assignments to do but they're easy (except for pre-lab assignment but you'll be fine). The papers are easy (except for final due to rewording and more) as long as you turn it in. Overall I enjoyed that class very much!!!
I have never hated a professor so much in my life. She thinks she tries to "teach us how to college" but in reality she is just ignorant. There is assigned seating where you are packed like a can or sardines. Does she have no concept of personal space?? In addition, she says things like "the blacks" and "our boy Adolf"... like dawg I'm jewish.
This professor requires a lot for her essays. She gave us the same essay topic twice, but expected us to lengthen the final paper. She emphasizes not self plagiarizing throughout the entire class. Personally I feel like if you want to be a history major you should take her, but if you just want to pass the class then don't.
As a freshman class the expectations are very high due to her standards. She does not only give unclear instructions but her grading is very nitpicky towards our essays, she also takes time to leave comments but does not grade our assignments. She is as well very unhelpful when you try to email her. She just says "look at the syllabus" like why???
Took her 2397 class during the summer. Not a bad class, alot of reading but the topic was something I found interesting so it wasnt too bad. Her lectures are clear and concise, very helpful, more helpful then the readings in my opinion. Most of the grade was the final project and final presentations. I'd take her again and definitely recommend.
She grades the papers extremely tough and WILL fault you for writing something she doesn't agree with or not using her unique citation style. She changes instructions on the fly, has unclear essay prompts, and is ALWAYS looking for a reason to hurt your grade. Take it at HCC to save the headache.
Do not take this teacher unless you want your GPA to suffer. We have received grades very slow. We got grades for our first essay one day before the second is due. She also grades so hard that no one in the 130 student class got higher than an 85! Save yourself the struggle and take someone else.
I took 1302 summer online. The amount of work we had to do in the span of 5 weeks was pretty stressful. I don't think the class is hard, its just super time consuming. It was like 2-3 discussions a week plus 2 replies, Mcgraw Smartbooks 1-3 per week (time average 45 min), and 2 essays. And every grading review from the summer is true.
Professor Johnson assigns weekly research assignments that are not just time-consuming but also excessively long. The questions are repetitive and boring, I learned very little from completing these assignments. Her lectures were, to put it mildly, incredibly boring.

DO NOT TAKE HER. I took her over the summer. She was unclear about grading criteria and is very rude if you contact her for clarification. She changes grading criteria last minute and returns papers extremely late. She will also take points off things but won't do the same for others, basically everyone is graded on different criteria.
Honestly, this class really isn't the best because she is somewhat strict (assigned seating, no electronics, etc) but the grading and assignments are easy. I don't know why people are saying the workload is a lot its one chapter per week that you answer questions about and it's only a completion grade, and then the essay only takes an hour at most.
This woman is exceptionally difficult, history is such a useless class and she tries to make it seem like its important by giving us a lot of work to do. Its just a filler class, in lectures I just fall asleep and don't pay attention, I only show up for credit. Also this woman does not understand when emergencies come up and you need an more time
Unless you are a dedicated history major or willing to hurt your GPA, avoid this professor AT ALL COSTS! Especially if writing isn't your strong suit. The research assignments are ridiculous, are time-consuming, and the instructions for them are not very clear. Her expectations are way too high, especially for a freshman-level course.
There are no tests, which was amazing. Only a weekly writing assignment that took maybe an hour to figure out, and textbook questions which are graded on completion. She rambles A LOT during lectures, and is kinda weird about having students answer questions during lectures until someone gets it right. VERY EASY CLASS
The lectures are horrible and draining as she mainly repeats the rules as if you are a child and not a university student. On average she goes over like one or two slides per lecture, so you will be spending most of your time zoning out during those three hours. The only good thing about her class is that there are basically no tests.

Nice person, not a great prof. Lectures felt like rambling but attendance is mandatory. Gave ASSIGNED SEATS for a class of 350+. Called people out for being late or on the phone. Picky with formatting even though the instructions were unclear. No tests but work other than textbook hw was writing and grades super late w barely any helpful feedback.
This professor's class is easy, but the professor makes it extremely confusing to understand how to complete the assignments. The TAs are not consistent at all with grading, and the feedback they give does NOT help whatsoever for the next assignment. Very late grading as well.
As a student that values education I want to learn and am motivated, but this class is such a waste. Unnecessarily difficult assignments, couldn't tell you anything we "learned," only how SHE wants her essays. If you email her, which she encourages (as if she's nice), she's condescending, makes you feel stupid, and literally avoids the answer.
The assignments aren't that tough but the professor is an awful teacher. It's twelve research assignments that can take up 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. The TAs provide no useful feedback and they gives grades back late. Mandatory attendance is awful in a textbook heavy class. Find another professor.
Her lectures are useless. Never once used her lectures for assignments. No phones policy. Will lecture the class for the first half and then teach the last 30 min. Research assignment take an unnecessary amount of time to do. She's also just rude. Assigned seating and exit tickets. Teaches like its the 1900's she needs to get with the times.

Do not take. As everyone else says the professor has strict exceptions but never with herself, and lectures are mandatory with nothing important ever said besides her rants about personal beliefs and a slideshow for the last 30 minutes. Childish woman.
This professor is not susceptive to student feedback. If you have a question, you're better off figuring it out yourself. I maintained an A throughout the entire semester and dropped down to a B after having the final paper graded despite it being an A+, it showed up as a C on Canvas. When confronted, she evaded all confrontation possible.
One of my toughest classes. There's research assignment every week, but it helped with my final paper at the end. There's also weekly readings and lectures were mandatory. I'll say attend every one, because that really boast up grade up even though they're sooo boring.
She unprofessionally graded my paper and refused to give sufficient evidence as to why points were removed and when confronted with a counter argument to her childish actions, ignored further communication regarding the grade.
The professor didn't allow students to use any electronics which removed the option for digital notetaking which most students prefer. If any student was late she would call them out to the class and embarrass them. Poor and unclear instructions for assignments. A mistake was very CLEARLY made when grading my final, and my email was ignored.
Attendance and participation count toward your grade so show up on time if you can. The workload was not much, just weekly research assignments and textbook questions which helped when writing the final paper. She is very strict on her no-electronics rule and her grading of Chicago-style formatting.
I enjoyed her lectures when it came to history. She would on average spend 20 minutes ranting about being treated like an adult for 14 weeks, which was annoying. Attendance is 11% of the overall grade. The instructions were always clear, and I enjoyed listening to her lectures. No electronic class and the freshman made sure to cry about it.
As someone who needed this class just to earn the credit, I hated this class. Attendance is 11% of your grade, and the lectures are boring as she just reads off the slides. There was weekly assignments which weren't bad, but the grading was terrible as TAs would mark something new every time even if they didn't mark it before. I don't suggest.
Save yourself the stress, if you are looking to have a good freshmen college experince, don't take this class. if you have to take her class, lots of writing no test or quizzes just weekly writing, vague feedback, tough grader, deadline is 5pm, instead of 11:59pm, She might say she is but isnt flexible, the fact that a ran out of space is crazy.
Disclamer: I had Proffessor Johnson at University of Arkansas, but believe this review is necessary for students at Universtiy of Houston. Avoid this Proffessor at all cost. She gives mandatory lectures, although the majority of the points are from papers. The papers a impossible to recieve a good grade on. DO NOT TAKE. My only C.
We had assigned seats in an auditorium??, lectures were mandatory. If class is at 10 and you show up at 10:02, she will claim that people are lazy and immature. There's strict formatting on papers, she's strict overall. Actual assignments wouldn't be such a pain if she was nice, be ready to read the fine print/ rules on everything.
Take her class if you miss being treated like a high schooler.
Honestly, from day one this professor has made it her life's mission to make sure you feel immature. From her emails to the way she addresses the class on a normal basis, she will have you question how old you are and the level of maturity you possess. DO NOT take this class with her.
Her class requires a lot of outside time. Getting an A in the class is pretty simple but it requires a lot of work which for a class designed for freshman is not typical.
Attendance was mandatory. No electronics. Your grade depends on ur TA and I was blessed but others had satan's spawn. Class was extremely boring perfect for when I needed a nap, no joke half the class is asleep and she plays YMCA song to wake us up. I actually got my girlfriend from this class which was a major W. biggest part of her grade is a group project, and if your like me you have a nighmare group, the prof did not assist or give direction. her speech pattern is perfect to fall asleep to. she moved her lecture to online. if you want to be scammed pick this one!! if you want to be belittled by a highschool teacher on a power trip pick this one.
Expect: no phones/devices unless she directly/verbally gives permission first; strict attendance monitoring (even a minute or 2 late is LATE & you WILL be NOTICED); boring lectures (in my opinion); no tests (a good plus); a big group project at the end (went smoothly for me personally, but can vary depending on your group); & okay/cool personality.
Oh yeah if you want to be treated like a child, plz take this class!!!. This class is just awful, if you walk in 2 minutes late she will take off attendance points. Lots of homework that had nothing to do with the boring lectures. Group project that wasn't that bad if you get good teammate. If you attend this class, good luck you will need it!!!!!!

I took her for Hist 1302 which wasn't a choice. I don't think it was a hard class, but the professor is pretty strict. Your grade is very dependent on your TA, they grade your essay. The mandatory lab was one the most waste of an hour of my life, all it existed for is to turn in your essay, and discussions were pretty useless.
Took her for 1302. The class material was okay; the TA markings made it harder to keep going. Weekly discussion, readings [takes up to 2 hours each week], and a final project. It's not hard, just time-consuming, and the professor is strict about grades.
Took her class over the summer, and the graders were the TAs. This class mostly consisted of the McGraw Hill Homeworks, some group discussions and the Solo Project (Her Fall/Spring classes were in person and it was group projects). I really hated doing the project since it involved a lot of research and time.
Goodness honestly don't know where to start. Blatantly disrespects students by calling them out in a class of 300+Professor Scout” Johnson relies heavily on TA's. Group projects are mandatory and confusing with too many people in the actual group itself. Vague instructions. Reads off power points for the lecture i'm scared i'm not learning anything
Im looking out for you guys when I say that this class literally is set up for failure, my friends honors classes are easier than this teacher. Shes unreasonable and severely immature. If she's the only teacher available while you are selecting please just do a virtual class or wait next semester. I hope you all the best in your classes!
Honestly this class was boring but we never had exams just one group project that was due at the end of the sem. Attendance is mandatory but very easy to pass. Other than that this professor was straightforward and gave us an extra credit opportunity. (Pay attention and follow her rules and you will be fine)

She is making us do work like a 4000 level class in a 3000 level class. She is also a HARSH grader for literally no reason. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR'S CLASS!
Had her for 3310 US WOMENS HISTORY SINCE 1840. The worst professor and her TAs are just has bad as her. Her lecture videos are at least an hour long every week. The final is a group project instead of an essay because she doesn't like grading essays. She gives out busy work which is a little excessive. Do not take her class.

This Professor made it very clear that she dosen't want any type of electronics out for her to see. Her lectures tend to be boring, but here and there they would be somewhat entertaining. For the group project,If you have a good group that actually want to do the project as a group you will be fine. She grades very heavily.
NO ELECTRONICS. You're sorted into 15 people groups during the beginning of the semester and sit by them for the rest of the class. Final was a group project-if you get a good group it's not too hard. Prof was funny but strict; she takes her job seriously, but clearly enjoys teaching a lot. Take the class seriously and you'll be fine.
NO technology. You are allowed to use an iPad but ONLY for note taking. Attendance is mandatory. Lectures are ok, most of the times boring. The work for this class is fair (Short Writing Assignments, Reading Assignments/Quizzes, and a Group Project with random members). Honestly not as bad as most people make her out to be. Dr. Scout does have a strict NO PHONE policy, but she does not give tests, has relatively easy homework and group assignments, and lecture quizzes. There is also a major group project, but its easy if you have a good group.
No electronics whatsoever, the class was not hard. You do need to attend the lectures as they are apart of your grade and sometimes you do group activities. Lectures are boring and we have a huge group project, but it will only be easy if you have dedicated group members (it will be a total of 15 of yall).
You will get yelled at, or at the very least, side-eyed if she can see your phone, laptop, or headphones. This woman goes berserk I fear. Relatively easy grader. Harsh on attendance and will take off points. Not too much work, I just despised the group project which is in the place of your final. Just hope that you have good teammates. Holy sass
This class ruined my love for history. Endless discussion assignments, a ridiculous final group project, and harshest grading I've ever seen. She also will not turn in feedback until it's far too late. Weirdly passive aggressive with students. Not one of my emails was answered. No clear grade criteria.
REALISTIC RATING - sure she sucks as a professor, but at the end of the day, we don't have exams. All we have is a semester-long group project and connect hw assignments. Attendance is mandatory but the class is an easy A which is all that matters.
No exams but weekly assignments. Large group project at the end of the semester. Lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the project so I genuinely had no idea what the project even was until like October just felt super unorganized as a whole. Just pray you get a good TA who's willing to help you and your group understand what to do.

The class was easy overall, there were weekly assignments, lecture quizzes, group work almost every Thursday and group projects. Honestly the lectures were boring, the grading was inconsistent and the group projects were horror. But it was a easy class & there were no exams just show up, do your work and don't be on your phone and you're good.

I did not like the class. Professor is very strict. Can't use technology in her class at all and you have assigned seats. There is one big group project instead of exams. If you don't get a good group though you are basically screwed. Going to the lectures is useless, but she makes you go to them in order to receive the participation credit.
I'm in her class, and the workload is outrageous. She assigns 4 hours of homework weekly but doesn't list it on the calendar, making scheduling hard. She gives no class warnings, her Canvas is scattered, and she bans all tech, even for notes. Her lectures drag, and students would benefit more if she focused on the curriculum.
should have never become a college professor and should have applied to TSA instead since she loves to yell at people who just woke up in the morning. Coursework is easy but does it really matter if you have Miss Trunchbull giving everyone a hard time.
Even though this course was basically a free grade, my sanity matters far more than what my grade reflected. If you want to wake up 2 mornings a week with a professor who does not really even know her own lectures, and YELLS at the class every single day, then sign yourself up. Seriously, save yourself some sanity and find someone else!
This teacher was without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire academic career. She does not care at all about any of her students and is clearly there to collect a paycheck. Idk why everyone was so negative about this professor, honestly she was fine I enjoyed the occasional group work, there was no tests within the course just a final project at the end. Her lectures were pretty interesting overall as well. Don't let the reviews scare you this was a easy class especially if you can't memorize stuff easily.

The group project at the end of the semester dragged my grade down to a C+ at the end because it was a group of like 8 people. She grades very harshly. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

This professor will spend 1% of the class actually lecturing and 99% of it trying to discipline a class of 300 students like they're her children. she is a tough grader along with her TA's, and will basically try to fail you. Heavy attendance taker.
Class 2x a week + a group project, but gives in class group work that uses majority of the class period, so main project is done out of class. There is also a pre-group assignment the day before group work day (Wed), and a lecture quiz due Thursday because "she doesn't teach those days." (The videos that go with these quizzes 45 min long minimum.
No real instructions given for project, just has a list of what not to do. So picky abt behavior. I've never had a teacher act like this since 7th grade! Stops lecturing to address phone use, anti earbuds & walks around inspecting ears & computer screens. Pop quizzes if people aren't overjoyed to listen to her for 1.5 hrs. SO MUCH OUT OF CLASS WORK

She gets a lot of mixed reviews but I love a straight forward professor she clearly states the assignments in the syllabus and gives adequate time for the assignments to be turned in. It's about 2-4 assignments every week and is honestly easy if you read the provided texts. Her lectures are insightful, pay attention or she might give a pop quiz.

She absolutely wants no technology in her class and will berate you if you use your phone, more berating if you arrive 5 minutes late (attendance graded), and on top of that, she is a harsh grader with too many assignments. TAKE WHITTY INSTEAD!
Honestly she is a bad person but you can get an A easily. Assignments aren't crazy except the ones her evil TAs be grading cus they're so picky, the other assignments are an easy A. She jus lectures A LOT and is annoying. Other than her acting like she's our mother and her TA's taking off points for the littlest things - its fine.
If I had her as my mother I would have moved away and become independent and not follow her life lesson pathway that is somehow “historically” related. Her fuse is always short and she doesn't deserve to keep teaching, but UH is keeping her in for students to suffer the consequences.
This professor's course is easy to do well in, so if all you care about is an easy A then take her. But she can be very irritating with boring lectures where she'll yap about unrelated nonsense. No exams, just projects, readings, and writings. She does hand out way too much work in my opinion, but it gets easier to manage. Overall ok.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She will get on to you for the smallest things. She gives way too much work for a class people just take for the credit. She will try and embarrass you because she has some type of power complex she once called herself King Johnson if that tells you anything. Lectures are pointless and long. She will find any excuse not to like you
Professor is not as bad as yall think.. beside the fact she pause mid lecture to yap about life and stuff. as long as you have good groupmates and do your work you should be fine
Prepare for lots of busywork, which range from an out-of-class group project, lecture activities, assignments on Canvas on Thursdays, and the occasional pop quiz. Prof. will likely lecture you on to do better in life rather than teach. Grades heavily on attendance and if you use your technology you will be heckled. Get someone else for HIST credit.
She teaches like you are still in High School, freshman level course yet she has zero tolerance for the slightest of mistakes. I got caught playing Pokémon Showdown in class and every time she speaks about no phones she states "No playing Pokémon" lol. TA grades like you personally insulted them and a minute late is -50% off of group project work.
As others mentioned, she can be a grouch, but she does have moments when she makes it clear she cares about her students. Your grade in the class is heavily dependent on your effort & participation in the group project. The smartbook assignments can be a pain in the butt to complete, as they require a lot of reading.

She is very rude and petty!!!!! Do not take her class if you're looking for an actual professor who can teach; she spends most of class babysitting her students instead. She ridicules you for asking questions, her instructions are very vague but gets annoyed when you ask for help. She also puts in 0's for things you turned in WEEKS ago.
Main grade is a group project during the entire semester. Instructions are vague. Outside of that, workload is very heavy especially for a freshman level class. She is arrogant and going to her class is graining, but she counts attendance. Please if you have ANY option, don't take this class.
this class was such a drag throughout the semester. imo too much work for a class majority of people are only taking because they have to. there is a smartbook, writing assignment, and lecture quiz every single week. and there is a group project for the end of the semester that is just awful on principle.
she stops the entire class to ridicule you for being on your phone, I had an experience where I was checkign my grades in class and she saw and threw a tantrum in front of the entire class to tell us off about not appreciating her time
HORRIBLE CLASS. Firstly, She's VERY passive aggressive. She does these "life advice" segments at the start of lecture which come off as condescending and unhelpful. Secondly, I have spent upwards of 9-10 hours on this class (excluding lecture time). My STEM classes are easier and have less of a workload than this one. I don't know why she teaches.
Went off track during lectures, spending a lot of time discussing things unrelated to the course material. She also waited until the very end of the semester to grade most assignments, which was impossible to know where you stood. Communication was difficult and emails were rarely answered, and when they were, the tone felt passive-aggressive. RUN
If you wanna be “crusin' for a brusin” during your freshman year then choose her. She literally only has class time to showcase her hate to pretty much anyone who unknowingly chooses her as her HIST professor. Too bad she's still going as the HIST1302 prof for next semester - if you're enrolled with her, do yourself a favor and RUN RUN RUN!!!
Really tough grader and so are the TA's. There are three different due dates weekly and it's so inconsistent and tough to remember which is which. Crashes out of for low participation, and and a buzzkill in general. choose wisely PLEASE.
She'd better be "scouting" for another job that includes "berating adults daily" because that's what the class is every lecture. She's so bad RMP has two Michele Johnson profiles. If you have to enroll with her, just find a way to swap your HIST class, she is not worth your time.
Me and a friend of mine both agreed that this course by this professor is extremely demanding for what it is (meant to be a 1st year course, but professor treats it as a 2nd/3rd year one). Hate to even use this word to describe a professor, but she is very narcissistic. Overall, overly rude and belittling to her students, very unprofessional.
While there are no exams in her history courses, this quickly becomes a hot mess if you choose to be with her. Be prepared to be scolded for even the slightest things, like using your laptop for notes or being late for one minute. She has a massive ego and temper. I only managed to get an A because I like history, but you are better off without her
Do not recommend. It may sound good at first since you don't have to take exams but I would much rather take an exam than do all the stuff we would do for that project. The assignments given were really demanding. I had to do more work for this class than any of my other classes and I'm a STEM major.
WHATEVER you do, avoid this professor. All she does is belittle her students every lecture, does not give CLEAR instructions, and constantly says "did you read the syllabus" if you have a question. Both TA's & Professor do a horrible job & gave my group final project a ZERO over their unclear instructions. RUN!
If "scolding a class of 300 students" were an Olympic sport, she would've already won 10 gold medals. Find another HIST professor. The only reason why you may be tempted to join her is that she does not take any tests or exams. Seth Whitty is a better alternative, and I took him for HIST. He's 100% better, and he cares. Scout Johnson doesn't.
She is honestly a character. That's the nicest way i can speak my mind, she gave our group a 0 over unclean instructions, she's not willing to accommodate her students and is rude in lectures. Half the time she was talking nonsense, the other half i wasn't listening. If you can take ANYONE ELSE BUT HER.
Whatever you do. DO NOT TAKE JOHNSON. If you had a strict mother in your childhood she will try to reignite those nightmares because her lectures are all about how to do better in life.
I made the mistake of choosing this awful professor without checking Rate My Professor. She admitted her low rating day one. No exams, vague assignments, impossible group project, TAs clueless, two weird personas (Dr. Scout/Johnson), unfair grading, claims to care but doesn't. Honestly, she needs to be fired. Avoid this class at all cost.

Strict grading and no rounding either. Make sure you are always in attendance or you won't get an A. It's rare to get 100% on an assignment and few mistakes lead up to a poor score even on small homework assignments.
If you met her as a TSA agent you would understand why she screams and disciplines people. Too bad it's in a university, and UH is making her a tenured professor for as long as they allow it. SCOUT SOMEONE ELSE
Oh my god. I can't fathom how much she rage baited me the entire semester. Her lectures have nearly nothing to do with the homework. She spends the first half giving you life lessons and teaching you “how to college” like some type of life coach. Ma'am this is not in your job description. Her final project sucked and it was so complicated for what.
it was a lot of work, but you dont take exams and do a project instead. If you actually try, the class is easy and actually fun. give yourself time to do the work and it will be just fine. dont wait till the last minute
