I did not even sign up to have professor Mitchell but she ended up being one of the most inspiring teachers around. She assigns you reading that is essential to your essays and can even change your life. Everything she does has a purpose. She may seem like Satan but she makes you work and shows you how to be a good writer! TAKE HER!!!

She may seem a bit intimidating, but she's nice and cares for her students. I thought her grading was fair. Just put effort. I got a little confused when she tried to explainhelp with our essays, but I write much better now. She's helpful and it is really up to us to participate so she knows what we need help with. Overall nice and good professor.

Toke here for summer. It was a tough class, but I learned a lot from here. If you want to pass the class you have to work hard and put enough effort for it, and if you are seeking for an A you have to work harder. Participation matter for her and it's helpful for you. Ask question, don't just sit there and listen. You will learn from asking.

i have no idea why the ratings on here are so horrible i love her class! She's Extremely intelligent and pretty cool. Super interesting topics and readings. Discussions are very stimulating. Learned a ton when it comes to writing shes super helpful but really makes you think about. She is strict but nothing too harsh. One of my favorite teachers!

I took this professor for English 100, and i think i would honestly retake her class. She is a great professor, really. She does her best to make sense out of everything. Her overall purpose is to prepare you for the real world. If you want to become a better writer, reader, and think critically, take her! Remember that your grade is earned!

At first, I was regretting taking this class with this professor. As time went by, I understood that she was there to help and make us a better writer. Yes, she is a tough grader, but is always there for you when you need it; you just have to ask. You have to work to earn the grade you want. My writing has gotten better because of this class.

She's a phenomenal professor. She's no-nonsense and expects you to be prepared and to participate in discussions. She's clear in her expectations for essays-- it's on you to perform! Very supportive woman. I recommend her if you enjoy writing. Saddest day of class was when she showed up with an engagement ring... Thought I had a chance :(

I had a different teacher assigned to me for Eng 99 but she had to take an absent of leave and Ms. Michele took over the class. At first, I was not prepared at all to have her as a teacher, she was very intimidating but as time went on she was only doing it because she really cares. She gives great feedback on papers and will help you.. Fave prof!

She is a very smart teacher and knows exactly what she is teaching. She take a lot of pride into the subject and tries to make it as clear as possible for her students on what she is teaching. Grading is majority essay. If you take this class expecting to get an A with flying colors.. that will not happen. Class is tough and a solid grade earned.

Ms. Mitchell is an inspirational teacher who helps students become better writers and critical thinkers! At first, I was intimidated because she would ask "why?" about answers I gave during class until I would get it right. It embarrassed me initially because I always felt wrong, but it taught me to push out of the status quo and also ask "why?".

I've taken Ms. Mitchell for both ENG 99 & ENG 100 & I absolutely love her. She is a great English teacher. She's incredibly smart & makes you work for your grade but I can honestly say that she has pushed me to be a better writer. Come to class, always be willing to participate, do all the readings & you will pass! Can't wait to take her 101 class!

one of my favorite instructors ever, took her for 100 and critical thinking. she definitely makes you work for your grade but in a good way!! she's not one of those teachers that's out to get you; she pushes you to think outside the box & to not be a robot. participation is important but discussions are always fun. highly recommend.

I took her for English 100 during the spring semester-by far she beats all professors Theres a lot of readings, but theyre short and all pertain to the next big assignment also the readings and essays are the only homework She leaves a lot of room for personalization and creativity for papers and always gives amazing critiques and feedback 10/10

Ms. Mitchell is by far the most intellectually stimulating professor I have ever had. The use of open-ended essay prompts may frustrate many because it challenges you as a writer to formulate your own opinions, rather than just telling a professor what they want to hear. This 101 class challenges the mind; read the material and have an opinion.

If you are taking this class for GE credit, run. I cannot stress that enough. Ms. Mitchell is a tough grader who gives extremely open-ended prompts which often times made it difficult to understand what she was expecting. On the other hand, if you're looking to me an English major or want to greatly improve your critical thinking and/ or writing skills, she is the teacher for you. I came out of her 100 and 101 class with such a new view of literature and honestly, you don't know what critical thinking is until you take this class. Your essay writing will improve 500% if you take this class seriously. Additionally, she assigns some eye-opening readings in her 100 class (my favorite was This is Water) and in her 101 class, the 2 novels she assigns are mind-blowing.

I came into her summer course not having taken any challenging English classes since my jr year of high school and her readings pushed me to think deeper. She'll definitely push you out of your comfort zone, so participation is encouraged! Reading quizzes were given w questions asking about the meaning of more difficult words in the text.

Professor Mitchell is a very hard English teacher. If you enjoy a coach like mentality, she is perfect for you. She does not sugar coat and will always give detailed explanations to why needs to be fixed. MAKE SURE TO PREPARE FOR HER CLASS, she easily gets upset when someone or no one does her work.

Professor Mitchell was an excellent teacher. She is clear with what is needed in papers and explains what she wants in further detail in class. Everything that is needed to be known for the papers are taught in class. She is a tough grader and a tough teacher, BUT youre writing will improve. CLASS WORKS IF YOU PUT IN THE TIME AND DO THE HOMEWORK!!

She's a good professor to work on your paper writing, but the class I took should've been a 101 Honors. Taking 101 now and it's so much easier than her 100 I actually laugh about it. Be prepared to re-write papers and have your papers heavily critiqued, but my writing definitely improved from it.

She was absolutely phenomenal. She was my favorite professor at OCC and I appreciate all the effort she has invested in making sure we are not only better writers but also more competent in analyzing content in ways we may not have imagined before. I wish she taught at my current university (transferred out OCC), I'd take her course again for sure.

Ah professor Mitchell. She KNOWS what she is talking about so she expects her students to live up to her high standards. If you pay attention to her lectures she gives out hidden life gems. She shaped the way I think as a person. Her class is difficult but it will prepare you for not only future courses but for what life has planned for you.

Mitchell is a great professor at OCC. She does her best to get her students to think critically and cares are their writing performance. She changed the way I thought of writing immensely through peer reviews and workshops. However, it is a tough class and I wouldn't recommend her if you want the easy A or if you are shy to speak up.

Prof Mitchell treats her students like the adults that they are and if that's too "harsh" for you then maybe a higher education isn't for you. This being said, her class was physically painful because I had to think and work so hard, but I'm certain that without her feedback and teaching style I wouldn't have survived the UC transfer. Loved it. 5/5

This class will hurt your brain! Be prepared to read and write for almost every lecture, but don't stress over your grade too much. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities and you'll have many assignment points to bring up any bad scores. Mitchell was always so kind with our class, engaged in lots of banter, and she's always there to talk!

Institutions need more teachers like Prof. Mitchell. She's definitely tough on her students, for good - to push you to greatness! But don't worry much because she's there to help you, don't be scared to participate in her classes and visit the office hours for any help. Take notes, do the readings, homework, she also offers a lot of extra credit.

GREAT PROF! She says it shouldn't be easy to get an A in this class, so put in a lot of effort if you want to do well. PARTICIPATION IS ESSSENTIAL!! Don't miss class n take notes bc most of what she says is very helpful when you start writing essays. Her office hours were very beneficial n she helped improve my writing skills drastically.

Everyone giving her bad reviews are just soft people. Yes she was intimidating, but she is super smart and I feel like my writing and annotation skills genuinely improved. She assigned a lot of readings and it's not an easy class, but she cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed, but only if you put in the effort and try.

This class helped me improve my writing skills by a landslide. After taking her class, papers assigned in other classes were much easier for me to write! This professor prepared me for future courses that include writing—even my science classes. Don't be afraid to ask for help; P. Mitchell might be intimidating, but she tries her best to help you.

Prof Mitchell is GREAT if you genuinely want to improve. She give good feedback and consistently pushes her students to do better than they did before. She was very helpful when it came to accommodations. She never made me feel bad for misunderstanding + actively encouraged students to seek her out. Biggest downside was lots of in-class group work.

I've never met a freshman professor so harsh. This woman will break your spirit and build you up to become a better writer than you can imagine. Half the class dropped before the midterms came around, she's a cruel grader, and she can be extremely demeaning (not on purpose but she will treat you like a child sometimes.) Shes absolutely amazing.
