Great teacher
She's awesome. I really enjoyed her class. She's really funny.
nice, very funny, easy test if studied, tests based on notes
awesome teacher- funny, intelligent, knows her stuff
Clear lectures, great notes. Test changed since too many used pass paper!
Very knowledgable teacher, but careful on the 2 short answer questions.Literally, you need to memorize every aspect of your notes because you don't know what she would ask you to answer.Tests are not easy because of memorization.2 projects. Glad I took her.
Very unclear as a professor. I am so frustrated with her: one of her 2 short-answer questions on final was something she never even clarified or explained in detail (and wasn't even in the chapters we read for that test), some test questions very vague
Not very helpful..very interesting but doesn't keep tests as applicable to the notes as she swears... I would find a teacher who can teach the material more clearly
Very tall and humerous
She is very clear .Test on Notes and on book some. she clearly outlines all the points for exam on the board.T/F tests & 2 essay questions. Very interesting makes the time in her class go super fast. You will get an education with her.Knows her stuff.
I really enjoyed her class. It is very easy if you go to class and take notes. She makes the class interesting and fun. She will not tolerate lateness or chitchatting ~ as is common (and annoying) with you young college students.
Easy class..tests are pretty much from notes that she gives. 3 projects, 3 tests and 2 quizzes; she has interesting lectures...sometimes wrong info though. If u study ur notes u'll get an A
She is the worst teacher. You can only miss 18 points to get an "A" in her class. Her point system sucks and she never has any facial expressions. She acts like a man. Don't take here. I worked so hard and she did not give me an "A.&q
don;t take her class is super hard and she doesn;t know how to teach all her test is out and all the student have that its not fair for other student if any one has her class go and ask any one at class they have the all the test really bad class vast tim
I thought that Scaife was very fair. As long as you go to class, take notes, and read the book, it was easy.
used to be nice and easy bit have changed for a B she is good but for an A you have to study a lot but u might be able to pull it off
Cool teacher
Totally easy class. Enjoyed her very much
Really clear on what she is teaching and it is directly from the book. 4 exams that include 5 mini essay questions that is from the lecture notes, 2 video quizzes and two b.s. papers.NO FINAL.
you'll be fine as long as you go to class and read your notes.
Great teacher gives extreamly good notes.tests are respectable. shes really nice and students actualy learn in her class. she may apear scary at first and mean but she doesnt she has good heart and happy..
I normally dont review professors on this site..but she is a WONDERFUL teacher. Made me want to change my major!
Wonderful Teacher!!
This class is a must take. Wonderful class. Professor Scaife is a fabulous lecturer. Her lectures are very clear and straightforward. You will learn a great deal and enjoy every minute of the class.
She totally rocks! Don't buy the book. Short answer test striaght from her notes. Come to class, don't be late, take good notes, and get an A. Takes her a little while to warm up to the students.
Scaife is an excellent teacher. Her class is actually very fun and informative. Scaife is beautiful. She was very attractive and I would love to marry her.
It turned out to be a fun class. Enjoyed the projects she assigned. Tests are straight forward from the book and notes. Excellent teacher once the semester gets rolling and she becomes familiar with the students.
the absolute best in her field. makes you love sociology. I really enjoy the class. in one semester, you learn stuff that can help you for rest of your life. despite how she might act, she is not scary or that mean at all. I love her!
She's very sexy--she also happens to be a great teacher who is interesting. Took her over the Summer, there is one project during the Summer which is easy. During Fall / Spring she assigns another project which is more difficult which includes interviewing a homeless person.
Ummmmmm ummmmmmmmm... now that's what you call a woman. Not an intimidating professor. Multiple choice tests w/ some short essays. One project. Not difficult. You will enjoy this class. She is fine, get up close and personal with her and you'll know what I'm talking about.
She's very inanimated for a sociology prof. She can be so cute when she laughs, but she mostly has a expressionless/stoic personality. If you're a SOC major, I wouldn't recommend her. You'd learn a lot more from another professor. But if you just want the credits, she's easy. Study notes, not book.
boring and dreary. wuts sad is that shes a soc prof but oblivious that teaching isnt her strength/shes very arrogant and cocky when it comes to her craft. dont buy the book/tests are 100% notes despite what she says. also she suffers from a major eating disorder. someone buy the poor thing a muffin.
She has the talent to make intereseting material boring. Very rude if you ask her to clarify something. Not clear about what she wants in tests or papers, the exams aren't easy either. 5 "short" essay questions and you get an hour to finish up...
THIS WOMEN CAN'T COPE WITH A DISABLED STUDENT. HOW PATHETIC IS THAT. SHE COULD NOT RELATE TO SOMEONE WHO COULD NOT USE THEIR HANDS. WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT A PART-TIME INSTRUCTOR WHO IS JUST LOOKING FOR A PAY CHECK. I AM GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT SHE DOES NOT TEACH HERE AT SMC IN THE FUTURE.
BORING!!!! She lectures everyday and you must take notes. Doesn't care if you don't come to class, she takes attendance the 1st week only. 2 easy out of class assingments. Her tests aren't that easy.
Great teacher makes class alot of fun/ if u plan on trying u shouldnt have a problem getting a B or A.
her lectures are very clear and the projects are interesting. however, she's a feminist who will push students into swallowing her ideas and she openly favors ladies over gents. besides, even though i like women with attitude, i have to admit that she's as far from the word 'nice' as you can possibly get.
This is my major so I am obviously interested but when the tests are as hard as they are its very discouraging. No matter how much I studied I could not get an A on any test. It's ridiculous. Very hard to transfer if I am going to have a C on my transcript in the class I want to major in!

she's kind of bland as a person but the notes are clear and the tests are from the reading and the lectures. projects are easy; don't read too much into them. the topics are interesting.
not gorgeous as some have said. grades based on cumalitive letter grades instead of points. i studied hard on book and class notes and recieved a C on all tests. not very nice or approachable. She seems detatched from society and wants you to be also.
tests aren't hard and very fair. lectures interesting and she promotes class discussion. assigns projects - one of them is interviewing a homeless person (i liked it). however, ms scaife herself seems like a lonely, deeply unhappy woman who probably suffered from domestic violence. she puts on a mask and tries to act tough.
I took this class because people told me this class was the easiest but heck no!! She's so weird+annoying and her tests are tricky in some ways..AND I still don't know why I got a "C" when one of my classmate got an "A" (our test scores were about the same + I even did all the projects and got full credits) She just doesn't treat students equally.
I am personally in love with Sociology and i find it a very gripping subject, so far i haven't hit one of the tests but we have no homework and we sit in class and take notes all day... i would truely like her moer if only the class could get a little more
she'd a very interesting and special teacher. she pretends to be scary but actually she's so nice. 4 the hw, as long as you turn it in ON TIME you'll get A. study before the exams then you'll do a good job. exams are NOT all from the lectures so you need to study the text and pick up the imp materials she doesn't cover.
SHE GETS VERY MAD IF YOU'RE LATE ON THE FIRST DAY. HER LECTURES ARE QUITE INTERESTING, BUT HER EXAMS ARE VERY DIFFICULT. ALWAYS SEEMS VERY DISSAPOINTED AT EVERYBODY.
Class was run of the mill, not alot of class work or homework, 3 papers (but really easy, you just observe a few things and write down your thoughts, no real structure needed) Her tests are middle of the road as well, she asks questions out of the book and lecture, and some are very specific. Lectures/notes everyday, just dont miss many classes.
Ok I have never made any comments on this site before but i had to for this teacher. This teacher acts like she hates life, hates teaching, and hates everyone else. She teaches the class to be demacrats and tells you her ignorant views on many situations. I didnt learn anything at all and went everyday. This women needs something in her life.
There's one word to descibe this teacher : EAZY! If you don't get too much into personalities and just do the minimum she asks from you there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. I'm not a big fan of sociology, but the class is a piece of cake.
This class is not very difficult, but she tries to make it difficult with pointless memorization. Prof. Scaife shouldn't be teaching, she should be in therapy! She's unhappy and will like you better if you are miserable too!!!
It doesn't hurt to smile!!!
To me she has a down to earth approach and I look forward to going to class each week. If she were a man would the other reviewers be worried about her smiling or not? How about her appearance?Interesting. Take her class and she'll explain why this would not be an issue if she were a man in our society!
very nice
SHE IS A VERY DEPRESSED MEAN LADY WHO IS VERY BIASED AND A FEMANIST, BUT SHE HAS INTERESTING LECTURES TESTS R VERY DIFFICULT.
I would bet that most of the people that have commented about Michelle are those who dropped her class because she scared the hell out of them. I believe the reason she is that way is to deter dumb-asses from taking her class. And it works. I find her to be a great teacher and willing to stop the lecture for questions. I eill take her again!
I THINK THAT SCAIFE WAS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I HAVE EVER TAKEN (AND I PLAN ON TAKING HER AGAIN). HER NOTES ARE VERY CLEAR AND YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY THE BOOK. TESTS ARE ESSAY FORMED, BUT IF YOU JUST STUDY, YOU CAN EASILY GET AN A.
Great teacher! You will learn a great deal! SHE keeps it real about the world and our involvement in it.
her tests are fair in that she doesn't try to trick you, but they are all essay, and if you get even one part of an essay wrong, the whole question is marked as wrong. i knew the material inside and out, got one PART of a question wrong and received a B-. it's unfair not to give partial credit. don't take the class if you want an A.
I am taking her Scholars class and I was more than surprised to find that her class was the easiest...She does an outline for every chapter and that is literally what comes up on the tests...study your outlines and you definitely have an A....And thats a Scholars class...
i found "michelle" to be harsh, self righteous, and an overall know-it-all. don't get me wrong i understand the concept that a teachers primarily goal is to teach, which she did adequately but i didn't find it necessary for her to be so uptight and "proffesional" especially considering she teaches social sciences, yet she practices agism.
Um, I paniced the first day, It's a very hard class for me and I study hard. You've got to study hard, the thing is, i'm taking her in winter. Shes kind but she's too strict!! you miss 1 day you miss a whole week = F! I was gonna drop the second day but I pushed myself. Very hard class, requires memorization! Her lectures are amazing!!!!!!!
The class is taught very straight forward... the notes go on the bored, they're explained, and the test clearly reflects what you talked about in class. I recommend doing the reading, even though the notes cover a lot. She seems a little intimidating at first, but is very nice once you get to know her and is actually pretty funny.
Prof. Scaife is great. I learned so much in her class. She outlines everything you need to know and keeps her lectures very interesting. This was one of my favorite classes. Read the assinged chapters, study her outlines and you'll pass for sure. It's not an easy A, but an A is definitely obtainable.
she's really nice, funny, and straight-forward in her lecturing. there's no hw, two easy as hell projects that you either get a check or minus on (pass or fail), and 4 exams featuring exactly what you'd expect. the final isn't even cummulative. my advice is take this class if you're looking to raise your GPA.
Yeah, it's kind of hard to get an A. For me, her exams are tricky even though I studied hard. Just master the textbook and you'll do fine.
She was a hard person to have as a teacher...you never knew if she was in a good mood or not, kind of scary actually..Everything is definelty mandatory, don't ask things..just agree and write down her notes and you're all set.....
She may seem intimidating at first; a little obstinite if you will. I however very much enjoyed the dynamics of the class. She has good notes, is organized in lecture, and welcomes questions and/or comments. She is also secretly kind and sweet, but don't tell her I told you.
Very good teacher. Knows sociology very well, quick from the top of her head. A bit scary until you realize she really kind and cares about people. A feminist maybe in the good sense of the word; one of the chapters she covers involves gender inequality but it doesn't mean she dislikes men. Who could teach that material and not sound feminist?
Awesome teacher! Makes sociology fun and interesting. Test are based primarily on notes, but recommend reading the text. She loves her job and it shows. She's funny and keeps you interested. Grade A teacher, strongly recommend! FYI Attendance not taken.
If you're considering dropping the class-- DON'T! Professor Scaife is great! She is passionate about her field of work and has had hands-on experience. Very clear and her lectures are effective; I read the book sporadically and got an A.
Do your reading and the infrequent homework assignments and you'll be just fine. Ms. Scaife is great at getting interesting conversation going in the classroom and is very well versed on the subject matter. She ties in current events and talks to her students like they're adults- as it should be!
Professor SCAIFE is great! she explains the material very well. If u attend class and pay attention to her lectures u will get a good grade in her class. Her test are not hard at all they are pretty basic and the quizzes are given to get an A. She makes the class very fun not boring at all. TAKE HER!!
Easy class. She writes her lecture notes on the board for you, so as long as you copy those down and study the chapter, you'll do fine. She's not very warm or nice, but her stories relating to each chapter keep the class interesting. Just don't assume that you'll get an A or B just by attending though.
I highly recommend her if you really want to LEARN Sociology. She's extremely knowledgeable and knows how to teach on a college/univ. level. Great lectures! Very interesting. She's def. one of my favorite Prof. at SMC.
Professor Scaife is extravogant!!!!Scaife lectures are very exquisite because she will break down the information so that all students can get a good understanding of the material. Highly recommend her! Tests are multiple choice and some Essay questions. (NOT HARD) There are a few assignments/projects(easy) Not boring at all ...HAVE TO TAKE HER!!!!
SCAIFE WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO BECOME A SOCIOLOGY MAJOR!! HER LECTURES ARE TO YOUR BEST ADVANTAGE AND EXTREMELY USEFUL!!! THE CLASS AND MATERIAL OVERALL IS EASY IT SHOULD BE AN EASY "A".YOU HAVE TO TAKE HER!!! THE TESTS ARE NOT HARD (MULTIPLE CHOICE)THERE WILL BE PROJECTS ASSIGNED ..NOT HARD AND VERY INTERESTING....YOU JUST HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
I absolutely love this woman...very intelligent and passionate about soc. Took her in summer session. Made me want to double major. 4 essay form tests and 2 quizzes on videos watched. One project. lectures are extremely clear, straight from textbook. presented it in a way that is easy to understand. got an A. show up to class and ask questions.
Really great teacher, very straight forward. I took her over the summer really easy- book not necessary- notes critical. There are four essay exams two quizzes and a project. She explains everything she says. Does not take roll- its all based on the tests quizzes and project. She was really interesting- I RECOMMEND HER!
I took her over the summer and absolutely loved this teacher! She was a little intimidating the first week but she is actually really funny and sweet. She is extremely clear with her expectations and gives you everything you need to succeed. Attendance is crucial as her exams come straight from her lecture. Easy A if you show up and take notes.
I took her over the summer and absolutely loved this teacher!! She was a little intimidating the first week but she is actually really funny and sweet. She is extremely clear with her expectations and gives you everything you need to succeed. Attendance is crucial as her exams come straight from her lecture. Easy A if you show up and take notes!
I took her for Soc2 during fall. I've taken her for soc1 so I knew what to expect. Must read the book, show up to class, and ask questions and you will get an A. Hands down one of the best professors at SMC...witty, cynical, sarcastic, and intelligent. Very organized and gives great outlines. 4 (multiple choice) tests, 1 paper, 1-2 quiz on video.
Overall, easy class. Dont have to attend lectures, just read the book and you'll do fine on the exams. Teacher is NOT helpful. She's kinda rude. This is a self-teach class so textbook is all you need.
Took her class during the summer and turned out a bit differently from prev reviews. Did not give outlines and required short essay tests no multiple choice. Clear notes on board but did read textbook to clarify. Not inspiring but a kind teacher and was usually serious.
She is really nice and her class is fairly easy
Recommend her class if your a sociology major take her. She helps build your foundation on sociological theories and exams are essay form which requires you to know how to explain social issues with the sociological theories. Not afraid to say what she's thinks on her mind.
OMG THIS WAS THE EASIEST CLASS EVER. i received A on every test. with out trying SOO easy & SOO BORING!!!! the material is very interesting but the teacher is a melancholy snooze fest. coffee is a must. p.s. check out the long fingers
I thoroughly enjoyed this class even though it was one of the more difficult I have taken. Professor Scaife's lectures are very interesting and although she is a bit intimidating she clearly wants her students to do well and gives you the best grade possible. You must read, and you must attend class in order to get lecture notes.
Her class lecture is super boring but in general her class/test are both very easy to get in A in. Attend class to get her outline that covers the major points of the book, BUT READ UR TEXTBOOK and you'll do well. We had 4 multiple choice test and a short easy project. EASY EASY EASY
Not easy Class get ready to read all the book because test are hard, and her lecture won't help That much . She give away to A's That u are going to need in order to survive. Kind of a cold lady but no mean class pretty boring assistance is not mandatory :)
This was a very interesting class. I heard she is strict, and she kinda is. She has a sense of humor but also takes the class seriously. Listen to the lecture, copy the notes (she outlines on the board) and study it for the quiz. you should do fine. There's hardly any hw. you can take it if you just need some more units, or actually like sociology
She is such a great professor. Her lectures are so clear and writes outlines on the board to help students understand her lectures better. Tests are based on notes and there is very little textbook use. There are also a few EASY projects and one EASY quiz on a movie. I failed two of the five exams but still ended up with a B! Go figure!
Overall a boring class. She's very straightforward. I recommend everyone to read the chapters she assigns BEFORE the test because some of the test question ask some statistics or the ideal main reason of what a theorist has said. She memorized her outline thats she writes on the board. Don't expect a email back anytime soon, instead go to Office H
She doesn't care if you come to class. Read the textbook and you'll ace the test. BE THOROUGH. There are a project and 2 quizzes on videos too. Overall easy class.
She is very straight forwarded. I took her 3 hour night class and I liked her. She has exams throughout the semester, so each exam consists of two chapters pretty easy to study. Then she has an easy project. I like the way she lectures because I was able to stay awake, which for me is extremely difficult. She has an odd sense of humor, but it works
Do not take her class if you want to get A. There are only four exams and one written assignment without no extra points. All materials are based on text so you don't have to attend class. If you have some time take a look grade distributor of her. You will be astounding. There are nearly only 2 or 3 people get As from her entire classes.
If you are interested in sociol, TAKE HER, she know her thang. The class is ok. Her tests aren't easy though, but its ace-able. I study all my tests the night before and I got Bs - As. Mostly B though, but If you read your book frequently you should be ok. 2 mini-essays on tests. BUT NO ESSAY,HOMEWORK NOR RESEARCH PAPER.
Shes a good teacher. Beware that shes a bit quirky, at first we thought it was really strange but its part of what makes her class enjoyable. I took her for summer session. Reading was big then, so I'm assuming its just as important for a full semester. But she is a great teacher I recomend her.
I took scaife during spring and really enjoyed her night class. She has four tests and the final is not cumulative, which is always a plus. She is an interesting professor. She is very serious, but always makes little funny comments, which make the class way more enjoyable . I highly recommend her. A good grade is possible just read the book!
She was great! I had her last semester, very clear expectations. She writes on the board to help the class stay organized. The tests are right out of the book, and the book is very user friendly. She has a dry sense of humor but is absolutely adorable! I learned so much, and always looked forward to sociology!
I am a international student, I took her class on summer and it was really hard for me to read all of the reading, but I really love her lecture, everything is clear and organized! I got an A at last. and there was no extra credit, but she gave any writing quiz or essays full grade if you did them. Take her if you like sociology!
I honestly didn't like her at the beginning of the semester... and I grew to love her. She knows her stuff. Humor is a bit dry but you'll grow to like it. Her lectures do pretty much come from the book, but the exams are kind of tricky. 1 essay question. So a bit of studying is required, but she's great, so I recommend her.
Great professor, interesting and fun. 5 tests all year, 51 questions with the last one being worth 5 points. I am TERRIBLE at tests, and got a B in the class, just studying her notes and not the textbook. The 5 tests help in the long run. Notes are easy to comprehend.
This course will benefit your awareness and perspective because the professor provides a clear and engaging interaction with her students. She is both informed and hilarious in an unassuming way. At first, I thought she was strict, but each subsequent class, she showed her sense of humor. I looked forward to this class and learned so much.
My first impression of Scaife was that she was a grumpy and strict lady, but as I went further along in the class I realized that o was totally wrong! She is very passionate and informative about her profession and quite funny as well. Her tests are very easy if you take notes on the lectures which are straight from the book. TAKE HER CLASS!!
This professor first appears very un-empathetic, but all she is doing is being strict while emphasizing the importance of commitment. In the first week of the 6 week accelerated course, I was intimidated by her teaching style and attitude, but I grew more comfortable as the class continued. Lectures drag on and are written in the outline format.
Professor Scaife is very good with her teaching. Her personality at first Seems very intimidating she has a very unusual personality but at the same time it goes good with her teaching..She's very straight forward & won't tolerate anyone.. Tests are not very hard... Jst make sure to take her class notes.. Overall good prof. Passed her class w a B
Comes off as a tough, almost not friendly at first, but ended up being one of my favorite teachers. Willing to help, very clear on topic that will be on tests. Definitely suggest taking her if you need this class
The class is basically tests after about 3 chapters they are multiple choice and one short answer. If you read & listen to her lecture you should do just fine. She does assign a paper but it is easy. She's a nice teacher & she answers any of your questions. Her lectures can sometimes be dull but you learn a lot. If you need this class take her!!
Her lectures are clear& knows OUTLINEof chapters however she has q's on exams that she didn't cover. Honestly think she flipped pages and pointed at a sentence & converted it to q's on exams. You have to soak in every detail of the book. So if you have a lot 2 study for other classes take someone else. SPR '15 16 students were left @ end of term.
Run. She can be funny at times but when I went to her office hours to ask questions before an exam she had this glare on her face.. Not cool. Her exams are hard because you need to know everything the book says. It's as of she pointed at a random sentences& made them questions. 3 exams of 70 question &2 written. Most got Cs (16 students left @ end
Doesn't deserve a 3.3 easiness. Honestly a very intriguing subject. The material in the book can even astound you. Her ridiculous exams ruined that. I wish I had taken another professor. I could've absolutely loved this class because the book was the best in interpreting differences between cultures, gender stratification etc
TERRIBLE. Other students I ran into in the tutoring sessions offered would describe their instructors way of teaching and shed me sample quizzes and exams that made me feel so frustrated because Scaife made the course unnecessarily difficult.
SO first off, you cannot go into her class expecting an "easy A," but if you are willing to pay attention during lectures and read the book, an A is all yours! She is a very fair grader and does not ask anything out of the ordinary from her students. She is really funny without trying to be which is always a plus! Loved her
I went into this class knowing she wasn't going to be easy based on the reviews here. Do not take this class if you are looking to pass. Her lectures are long and boring. She is very knowledgable about the subject but she does not care about her students as she should and is not welcoming at office hours.
4 exams and a 5 page written assignment. Her exams are about 45 or more multiple questions and one short answer question. She was very clear on what to expect from her class and her grading criteria. She comes off as tough and may seem cold but she is an awesome professor who is very knowledgable. READ the textbook + STUDY + good notes A on exams
I love sociology and I love her. This class changed my life and will be a life changing event that I look back at in the future. She comes off as cold, but she has a beautiful soul. I wish she was my friend, she's so cool. I love her dark humor. This class isn't easy though, you will have to study.
Love her class! Very clear, picks up where she left off and puts everything on the board. Tests are definitely not hard if you read the textbook, in fact it's easy. There are 4 tests in total and 1 written assignment, which is easy. What I love most about her classes is how she's so unintentionally funny. Shes not as mean as she seems. MUST TAKE.
Yes, she can be funny but overall I disliked the course. Her lectures are boring and all she does is talk, talk, talk. I didn't expect her class to be easy but boy did she make it hell. Her quizzes are 50+ questions long and I feel as if she tries to make her exams hard on purpose. She is difficult to talk to after class, it's if she didn't care.
Very straightforward class. I took her for a 3 hour long night class and it was sometimes hard to pay attention to her long lectures. She does write the notes up on the board in a very organized way and discusses them. I wish there were more opportunity for class discussion/dynamics in her class, but read the textbook and pass. No final exam.
If you know how to read and listen, take the class. Everything is straightforward. The book is easy on the mind. I deeply appreciate her lectures since she is a free spirit. You can miss class if you can read a book.
Would not recommend for those that are looking for an easy A. Tests are pretty much completely based on the textbook, and the questions on tests are not easy to comprehend. She is pretty funny and her lectures are interesting, but the class is very challenging for an introductory level. In the end it was an interesting ,albeit tough, class.
Professor Scaife is a great teacher. Very clear lecture, clear writing on the board. clear and interesting lecture. 3 exam and 1 final. 75 multiple choice and 1 shout essay question ( 5 point) I essay home homework( 20 point)- if you study for exam, it is easy. do not miss classes, take good note, read book really well. Then you get A.
Alright, I loved professor Scaife. She may come off a little cold at first but she really is a super interesting, kind person. She is also INCREDIBLY passionate about sociology which i LOVED. Tests are DIRECTLY FROM THE TEXTBOOK and not difficult however many classmates had trouble with it! i thought it was easy. Just study (shocker!).
She really isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem. She tells everyone on the first day of class that if you only study her notes you'll probably get a D at best and you HAVE to read the book. Pay attention in class, read the book, use the resources available like practice quizzes available online. Just try to be engaged, it helps with this class.
really boring lectures, seriously copies everything out of the book and outlines it on the board. this is a social problems class, and she didn't discuss any of the current social problems we are experiencing as a country!! easy A, grade is based off of 4 tests, a final, and a really easy project where you watch documentaries. just super boring.
Consistent and clear. First day she will explain how the class will be then it's up to you to follow. Lectures are interesting. Text book or online book is needed. Read the chapters plus study lecture notes and tests will be smooth. No surprises. Communicate if you will be late or absent. I enjoyed her class and would recommend
DO NOT TAKE. This class is a GE. The amount of time you'll have to put into this class is tremendous. Is she a professor? No, more like a military sergeant. Her lectures are literally the same exact thing written in the book. The exams are based on the book. Exams are filled with random facts an stats youd have to remember. She tries to trick you!
Professor Scaife is an amazing teacher. I didn't take Soc. 1 (recommended), but she showed me what information to know so I could understand Soc. 2. She explains clearly what will be on the exams and you can also get partial credit on exam responses if you show some understanding of the material. Don't miss out this is one terrific professor.
She's a bit intimidating at start, but she's actually nice. Show up to class for lectures, read the chapters, and you'll be set for her exams. Make sure you read the chapters at least once and pay close attention to her lectures as she used them for the essay question of the exams. Overall, I liked her & her class was very informative.
She is intimidating at first, but if you read and study for the lessons you will pass this class. Attendance is important if you expect to pass this class. She does not do lessons on a book rather than an online book.
I took this class in the summer and it was way harder than I thought. Sociology is an easy course but she makes it difficult and has very long lectures. She is nice and I received an A, however she makes you work for it. Didnt enjoy the class and wont take again. She is nice though, just not a fan of her teaching style.
Her class is mostly lectures based off the book. She's a nice teacher, but her class is a tad bit difficult. With a couple of hours of studying, any student can do well.
Her lectures are heavy and the questions she asks on your test are hard to translate. Did I also mention her exams are pretty much your grade so if you are not good at testing this is not the class for you
Her lectures are straight from the book. When studying for exam, use the text book more than lecture notes. The exams are a tad bit tricky so make sure you read the book. She is a straight forward professor and gets to the point of what she expects. Just read the book and you'll be fine.
She gives you 6 exams. Final isn't cumulative. I recommend going to class even if it isn't mandatory. Her notes are what you should focus on when reading the textbook AND are what she covers on exams. Her lectures are quite boring but straightforward. She's warms up as the semester goes on. I loved her class. She's chill once you get to know her.
All she does is write all over the board all day long, exams are easy but she is soo boring, I know that shouldn't matter, but I couldn't just say nothing since this is what I'm on this website for. exams nearly every 3 weeks and are multiple choice.
If you plan in taking her class you will need to attend to the tutoring offered and read over the chapters besides taking her notes. She writes her notes on the white board, she doesnt have slides. Exams have only certain parts of her notes the rest are found in the textbook. Attendance and textbook is required. Extra credit may be given.
Scaife is my favorite Sociology professor. She is straight forward and makes learning fun. The lectures might feel long but she makes it so that you don't really have to read the book. There was only three tests in each class I took with her, so studying your notes will help you on the test. She's chill and really fun to engage with
The content itself is very straightforward, her lectures are BORING and content-heavy, the tests? WAY more difficult than the lectures, which is what I kind of expected so the book became my best friend. My understanding of the content was not fairly represented through the test scores I could have gotten an A if I was in another class...
This class is fairly standard. The lectures are longwinded and without slides so they get a little tedious. Not a lot of work but the test questions are specific enough that you can't just wing it, you have to read the textbook chapters. The textbook is actually interesting though so it isn't all that bad. The professor is kind and considerate.
I was already excited to take sociology but Professor Scaife made it so much better! Every class is a lecture and she writes very clear notes on the board that you can just copy. Very few assignments and they're super easy. Exams aren't very hard if you study but you MUST study. You can tell she's very passionate about what she's teaching!
Oh my gosh. The tests are completely unfair examples of the lectures. Do not even think about asking her for help she will literally not give you the time of day. Not a good professor overall, does not act like she wants the best for her students. She just does not care.
Absolutely use lecture notes and the 'supplemental learning site' (separate from the Sociology course) on canvas to study for tests. The text mostly provides examples of the subject matter, but what you need to know for tests is in the supplemental canvas quizzes. Prof Scaife is dry in a way I really enjoyed. She seems tough but she enjoys engaging
Dry lectures, but engaging if you put in the work. Use the textbook, lecture notes, and unstuck ai to prep for the frequent exams. Professor Scaife is tough but fair.
Every class is a lecture so it's not for everyone. She's nice and takes the time to explain things, the tests were really difficult for me but the assignments weren't so I would take the class again and just a different way to study for the tests.
This teacher doesnt respond to emails, doesnt care, and dosent want to see you succeed.
