She made the subject matter easy to understand and really interesting.

how can you have a philosophy class without discussion!!! Argh!
Unorganized lectures, plays favorites. I got an A but she made it very difficult for me. I'm certain she had something against me.
Exelent Teacher!
I really do not enjoy her class. She is repetitive, and makes the class much easier than it should be. She gives reading quizzes, takes attendance and requires that we post to discussion board every week. It's like high school all over again.
great teacher
excellent teacher.
Terribly boring class. Thanks to her, I hate philosophy and dread taking another course. If at all possible, do not take this teacher.
This lady made Philosophy of Desire the most boring 50 minutes of my life....every single day. Also, this is the only C I have ever recieved, so you can see where I may be bitter. But she is very smart, but she abhors any student question her theories.
I got an A in the class and she liked me a lot, so Im not bitter - she's just my least favorite professor yet. The only way to do well is to say what she wants to hear (what she would say) or to make her like you.
This class made me hate philosophy and it is only an intro class! She is extremely boring and plays favorites. Don't take unless you absolutely have to!

She sucks
don't take her if you don't have to...
She is an unfair grader, plays favorites and makes even the most intricate phil. subjects that have fun twists to them boring as hell.
Brady is quiet difficult and demands a lot from you. Her grading is very unfair and hard. Do NOT recommend taking this class...you'll spend a lot more time than needed on an intro class. Also makes things a lot more confusing then they need to be.
terrible
I can't believe how hard this 100 level class is with her teaching it.

Great professor, very helpful and insightful!
one of the best.
This class requires a lot of thought. Make sure you THINK LONG AND HARD about what your going to say or write because she can easily shoot it down. Very willing to help though and makes sure you see and understand what you are supposed to get from the readings. A tough grader, but you learn a lot from her comments. Hard class but a very smart lady

although she makes the class difficult, she is a really good teacher. clear and concise. even if you dont understand her, she is helpful if you go after class, and she will help you with papers without doing it for you. if you have even subpar critical thinking skills, use them, and you can do ok in her class.
If I could give one piece of advice about my entire college career, I would say DO NOT TAKE DR. BRADY'S class. It made me hate philosophy and now I think it is a useless subject. She is mean and will make you feel like an idiot by flat out telling you that you're wrong in your own thinking. I felt sick each day that I had to go to her class.
One of the worst classes. ever. I spent more time doing the stupid B-S work trying to get ready for class everyday than on the rest of my classes combined. Avoid Brady at all costs.
The class has lots of reading and you have to pay attention to the details that she points out for reading quizzes. There are 3 papers and she grades kind of hard on them but overall the class is not horrible.
brady is a good teacher. if you are looking for an easy A then she is not the one for you. she is very helpful and available very often. basically, if you enjoy philosophy and thinking about life and actually learning... and dont mind getting a B then definitely take her.
Philosophy can be hard to understand and confusing, but Brady clearly explains readings and repeats explainations so you don't miss anything important. She is great at meeting w/you and helping you with assignments. I feel like what I got out of her class will help me with who I am as a person rather than just reading about some dumb philosophers.
Dr.Brady is a tough teacher but she is very good at what she does. It's hard to get a "A" but what you learn out of her course is more beneficial than any letter grade. She's always avaliable to meet with for any questions and is willing to do anything for you to help you out with anydifficulties understanding phil. I'd recommend her definitely
pedantic. get ready for reading quizzes like a high school literature class.
if you repeat her opinions in class and in papers, you will get a good grade and she will like you. if you prefer to think for yourself and form opinions, rather than be told what to think, it's another story. she WILL NOT allow any deviation from her views in class. i hate this class, and it has nothing to do with difficulty.
Dr. Brady is not easy, but is very good at what she does. You will learn a lot. She is very intersting to talk to and is willing to sit down and help you with clarification and ideas. One of my favorite professors I've had.
so annoying. ugh don't do it..she makes a really weird noise in the back of her throat. treats students like they are in kindergarden
Dr. Brady is my hero. Philosophy is by no means an easy subject and Brady is not an easy professor, but she will help you in any way she can. She will repeat and clarify any point as many times as asked and always gives you a chance to schedule meetings for papers. GREAT professor!
Honestly, Brady is a difficult grader but an excellent teacher. Her curriculum is a masterpiece and her willingness to help her students understand is amazing. Two thumbs way up! I would recommend her ethics class to any and all. This is probably one of the best classes on campus.
She grades papers pretty hard, and requires a lot of reading, but she does a good job of leading class discussion, and is always willing to meet outside of class. She grades class discussion pretty hard too, if you don't say anything you get a C.
Dr. Brady is an extremely smart woman. Her class is hard, she has high expectations, and you must do the work. However, you will learn a lot about how to write a paper and learn philosophy. She is extremely helpful on papers. She will read rough drafts and then meet with you to discuss corrections that need to be made. Over all, great professor.
dr. brady is extremely hard when it comes to grading. it is almost impossible to get A's on papers/tests. there's a lot of reading to do as well, and you cant really skimp on it. she was very smart and knows what she is talking about, however, i did not enjoy that class and would not recommend her.
Dr. Brady thinks she knows how to lead a discussion on philosophy. The next time I have to vote on a philosophical idea i might just explode. She grades tough and not just hard, unreasonably hard. If you are in honors, like I was (note was), choose symkowiak over her.
Had about a year ago. Knows the subject matter well, but she must be right. Always. You are not allowed to think for yourself in this class, which is contrary to the study of philosophy. Treats students like 5 year olds, ex. You can't even go to the4 bathroom without raising your hand and asking permission in front of everyone...
Not cool, not cool at all. Too much reading and she is always right...questions BAD!
She is the uncoolest person I have ever met, and anyone who disagrees is an IDIOT!! DO NOT TAKE! SHE WILL MAKE YOU ANGRY AND INCREASE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE!!!! I cannot stress this enough. She is evil, like it or not.
Dr. Brady is the most helpful professor in the world--she really wants her students to succeed and if you go to her office hours to discuss class material and papers, your grade will experience a boost. Her phil 100 class was extremely difficult, but she makes you think and thats good. If you want an easy class, look elsewhere.
Anyone who has anything negative to say is just looking for the easy "A" - I loved the course and got a lot out of it. Dr. Brady gives more of her self than any professor I have ever had. Take her course if you want to learn something!
Dr. Brady is probably the toughest professor I've had this semester, but she's extremely helpful. If you participate in class and ask her questions about assignments EARLY then she will be a huge help. She sometimes gives pop quizzes, so always read the material.
I have never met a more helpful teacher. If you take advantage of her availablity and willingness to help, you will do fine. She is very enthusiastic about philosophy and I really like her. She is a sweet lady and is encouraging to her students. definitely take her. Shes awesome!!
just... no.
Dr. Brady was my toughest teacher this semester but I feel I got a great deal out of her class. She always has a sign-up to meet with her before major assignments are due so take FULL advantage of the opportunity. Not only will your grades be MUCH better, you will get a chance to examine your opinions more thoroughly.
I did not do stellar in her class, but it was completely my own fault. She is a fantastic professor. She can make complex philosophical topics accessible. Very nice, helpful, the readings can be intense and she can grade a bit tough on her quizzes and papers, but if you give her SOME original thought you should do ok. Loved her, would take again.
SHE'S AWESOME. I WISH I COULD TAKE HER FOR 200 and 300 LEVEL.
Dr. Brady is a tough grader who expects a lot from her students. That being said, she was completely worthwhile to take. I learned so much from her class. Go to her office hours for help on every paper and ask her a lot of clarification questions.
Reading can be hard but Professor Brady goes over the translations in class. Homework consisted of reading and a weekly response (about two paragraphs) due every Tuesday. Not a bad Philosophy teacher considering she explains everything and is willing to help clarify anything you are confused about.
Best philosophy prof ive ever had. I hated phil before I took her class and now don't mind it so much. Brady has a dry sense of humor and, although she's a tough grader, I learned a lot in her class.
I had never had a philosophy class before this one, and at the time, I hated it. However, since then I have realized just how good of a professor Dr. Brady was. She was very helpful and very clear in class. She pushes you, but my next philosophy class was really easy because she had set us up for success! I recommend taking her.
Take this class if you are not taking other classes, have no interests and no life. Otherwise, avoid this professor at all costs. The assigned work is numerous and time consuming. Other professors at this university teach the course in a more concise and engaging way without the ridiculously involved papers and reading. Assigns work over holiday.
Dr. Brady expects her students to--shock and amazement--actually work! If you do not want to delve into the material on a deep level, do not bother with this course. If you want to read the material and learn to write *solid* and *concise* papers, she is more than willing to help you. I *loved* all of her classes!!!
I found this professor and class quite frustrating. She would tell you what she expected and if that was completed there would be something else wrong. I felt this class was impossible to get an A. It seemed that there was always something wrong and she had to find it. I found this professor to be very frustrating to give her what she wants.
too picky
She never gives test, only a few quizes and she explains the material extremely well in class. She has gotten me even more involved in Philosophy and she may not be the easiest teacher to take but she is very, very helpful. So, if you get stuck or don't understand something she is right there to help. Loved the class.
SOOOOOOOO much work in this class. I spent so much time in the CLC for this INTRO class. She should be teaching upper-level only, not intro.
Dr. Brady is a very good teacher. She knows her stuff really well. However, her class is hard because she gives you quizzes at the beginning of each class over reading that most people don't understand. You have no tests, just a final and 2 papers. You learn a lot from her. She is very helpful and is willing to meet with you.
She is very picky. even if you go to office hours and use all the information she gives you and more, you most likely wont do well. Very scattered with info and grades in a very particular way. Grades do not reflect what you know so if you want to learn it, take her if you want a decent grade, dont.
Dr. Brady is very intelligent and definitely knows what she is talking about. I learned a lot from her class, but it was really frustrating. It was a ton of work, but getting an A is not impossible. She is always willing to help. Participation in class is important.
This class is hard, but all honors philo classes are. It does require written notes at least once a week and journal posts. Two papers are required and a final. A lot of written work and it is almost impossible to get an A.
Impossible to get a decent grade even though you write exactly what her reading notes and class notes say. Not flexible with meeting outside of class. Very boring and horrible voice to listen to. Worst class I have ever taken.
Very hard grader. Lectures were very confusing. Participation is key in this course. She will randomly call on students to provide answers. About half of my class dropped out within the first week. VERY DIFFICULT!
Dr. Brady's class was hard, but definitely worth it. She is a great professor and knows what she's talking about. Only 2 papers and a final. Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass. She is a difficult grader but if you pay attention to the lectures, do all the readings and homework, you'll do fine.
Don't ever have your own opinions in this class, at least not in the homework and papers. She will completely degrade what you believe in. You must have differing opinions than her though, that's what's confusing. Your opinions must, I repeat MUST stem from her own views or you will not succeed on tests and papers.
Don't take this class plain and simple. She is way to picky with grading. The way she talks is very annoying also. Way to much work for a class that really doesn't matter unless you're majoring in philosophy. The is simply HORRIBLE
Oh my. A class about Civil Disobedience is determinded if you know how to correctly cite sources and use quotes correctly. Worst class of all time. DO NOT TAKE WITH HER. Very picky about everything. She is nice and seems to care but its not worth it. The clock slows down when class is in session. 300 word papers due every class along with reading..
I felt like she didn't trust our intelligence.... Pretty much put us in a box in terms of materials to use throughout the term. We repeated the same things over and over again with almost no room to add our own original input. Additionally I'm pretty mad that in a class named "Civil Disobedience" we didn't talk once about music and its roll in the subject. Lastly, I felt like one of the low key main objectives she had in mind for our class was to teach us about how to cite sources.
Class was bearable, but you cant do nothing and expect to do well. If you half ass read the readings for the day you will be fine. The main thing is to take notes. The papers you write will come from your notes backed up by text. For our first Big paper, I went to her office hours just to clear things up and i got a 95. easy money.
Dr. Brady is very good at creating interesting analogies to prove a philosophical point. I thoroughly enjoyed her class. I didn't start off particularly well, but I felt I ended strong and definitely have a better understanding of what it means to be a philosopher.
Dr. Brady is an amazing professor and super caring. She helps facilitate great conversation and is very easy to talk with. Very flexible with office hours and extremely helpful. The class has a lot of homework but once you understand how to do the assignments it does not take long at all.
Dr. Brady lectures for most of the 75 minute class period. It is extremely important that you pay attention during these, especially when she explains readings. Participation is required and graded. There are plenty of opportunities to make up the participation grade though such as going to her office hours.
Dr. Brady is a fantastic professor. She's big on participation, so if you don't talk in class, you'll have to talk to her outside of class to get those points back. Take her if you're interested in Philosophy and willing to work, steer clear if you're looking for an easy A.
The most caring professor I've ever had, if you reach out whatsoever she is willing to go the extra mile for you. College is work and the faster you accept that the better off you will be.
Acted in a way where she thought she was the smartest in the room, and her opinion on something was always the right one. Makes you do a lot of small very detailed assignments, a lot of work for an intro class. Told a student they would lose participation credit if they left class to register for classes.
I loved Dr. Brady. Civil disobedience (an FYS) was difficult but very rewarding and interesting. I would absolutely recommend taking this class as a first year.
I loved Dr. Brady! She really cares about students. I had family issues & she was very understanding. She wants you to succeed. Class discussions were interesting and engaging. 3 main writing assignments, 1 final paper, and a final exam. A lot of work but she is a great professor and makes it possible for you to get a good grade if you work for it!
Everyone who wants to learn and improve their understanding of philosophy should take Dr. Brady. She is the most intellectual professor Ive had, knowing her subject inside and out and genuinely enthusiastic about what she teaches. She is so accessible outside of class, giving feedback on drafts and always a zoom call away for further help.
Dr Brady is a very kind and caring person. She is very passionate about philosophy, and truly wants to help her students. She assigns a lot of homework, which does not take very long but is difficult. Participation is required. She does cancel class the day that papers are due, which is helpful.
Amazing prof. So kind and passionate about Phil. She explains thing in so much detail its easy to follow. If you are confused and have questions she'll explain until you understand. Very understanding of outside factors. Would recommend her to anyone. Must read and be engaged to pass, can't slack off or you will be lost.
Dr. Brady is the best professor I have had at Xavier. She is so kind and very understanding, she will work with you if you are active in your communication. This class required a good deal of reading but can be expected in this level course. Dr. Brady does such a good job of thoroughly explaining the text and is great at facilitating conversation.
I had her when my professor got sick and she took over. She knew a lot and was good at engaging everyone and writing good notes. As a substitute teacher she was good.
Dr.Brady is a nice person but takes an intro class way too seriously. There's 2 assignments required to turn in every week and if they are not perfect the way she wants, you will not get full credit. Her grading leaves students behind in their work and makes it difficult to recover your grade. I would avoid
Dr. Brady was an amazing professor! You will have a fair amount of reading assignments, but they aren't terrible to manage. It is essential that you read them and attend class to understand what is going on. Attendance is mandatory, but she is understanding if you have to miss a class or two. If you are ever lost, she is always there to help.
Dr. Brady is a nice person but has explicitly said she doesn't give A's (if that's something you care about). There is a never ending list of critiques that even while implemented, won't change your grade. She would tell people they're wrong for saying that you learn from mistakes which I found odd. Attendance is highly mandatory as well.
Dr. Brady was a nice person, her class was very difficult to pass. She assigns reading every class along with assignments. If something was slightly wrong on the assignment, she would take off an unnecessary amount of points. She expects a lot of participation, so I don't recommend if you don't like talking in class. Some pros, but don't recommend.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Dr. Brady is a nice lady that has way too much time on her hands. She will tell you what to improve on and once you improve, she'll find another problem. Way too heavy for an intro course. She doesn't know how to use canvas and her page is extremely messy and confusing. She treats us like high schoolers. Take any other phil prof
Dr. Brady is a genuine person who loves to answer tough questions in class. She encourages failure, which helps class discussion. However, I didn't like her style because she spends over half the class going over what happened during the last class. You could miss half of the class and still be caught up on what's happening.
Do not take this class if you aren't prepared to participate at least twice a day, or would like to see your grade before the last day of the semester. The way she grades her assignments is bizarre. She thinks it will help you, but it won't. She essentially makes you answer questions incorrectly to receive points. There are wrong answers. AVOID!
She is kind, however, I feel like I'm half asleep in that class. She likes our questions after reading the book but she doesn't like to answer them. She assigns a lot work and becomes frustrated if you are unprepared to discuss EVERYTHING from the reading. She cares about her students, but doesn't communicate well. She can't work Canvas either.
She kinda talks funny but trust if you go to class, ask stupid questions, and do the easy assignments you'll pass. a lot of people don't like her but she's sweet and it's an easy class
