GREAT teacher. a lot of fun, laid back, makes class interesting. she moves fast and there's homework every night, but she makes everything so clear that there's no problem. and she only grades 10 of the homework problems. tests and quizzes take 10 minutes max, and you're allowed to leave as soon as you're finished.
she's a complete idiot, plain and simple, everyone says she sweet but that doesn't help her teaching skils. she does little to help a visual learner.
One of the best teachers I've had. Very knowledgable, makes class fun. I will never cut this class, as if you do, you will be lost (she moves quick...afterall, this is an elementary class!!!)Secondly, she keeps me awake at nine o'clock in the morning. I simply love this class with this teacher.
i realy like m.Briles her did a great job at teaching and gives you time to understand and if you dont she will go over it agan take her she is great
Excellent teacher. A student who dedicates time and show interest in class. Ms. Briles will go the extra mile with you. Great teacher, knows what she's doing.
awesome teacher she was clear she explained everything she helped everyone she had a sense of humor her quizzes and tests weren't that hard but you gotta go that's why my grade was so low. i'd def. take her again
She's awesome
Best MAth teacher I've ever had! She makes sure her students understand and will even meet with you after class..or when needed. I met her a few times in LRC..she was wonderful! Take her class!
its really easy. she is really nice and tries to help alot. she always has homework but it is always easy. it is a little boring, but i reccomend it
sooo nicccce
Briles is an AWESOME teacher, i seriously cannot say anything bad other than she does bust on you for not being in class, but overall she is always there to help after class and explains everything to a T. I am very bad at math and she totally helped me understand much much easier than my other teachers at this school. WOOOO BRILES!!!
GREAT teacher, very upbeat and positive. Can be sarcastic at times, but explains EVERYTHING until you understand it. Goes out of her way to help. Wish I could take her again. Got an A
Very easy teacher. she goes through every completely and clearly. she lets u use a page of notes for tests. shes gives a homework sheet but never collected or looked at it. i never used the book, but it may be helpful if your stuck on a problem. dont buy the answer guide, its a waste of money. I would defintily take her again!
She is very nice and very easy. Explains everthing well, and if you have a question she'll answer it for you without an attitude. Would highly recommend her.
This professor is loud and has terrible teaching skills. She doesn't explain much. All she does is do the problems posted on the P drive that should be on webct. I am not great at math however, its very hard to learn when all you do is copy the problems off of the board. She very rarely offers explanations.
awesome math teacher. would definitely take her again if i could. she let us have a page of notes for each test. she keeps class alive
She is the best. she takes her time, the notes are avialable before class on the web and goes over everything.and if you have a problem she is avialable for help!!!
She is terrible at what she tries to do. She talks way too fast and has horrible teaching skills. I didn't mind the class Math 151 but I would not take it with her. I wanted to take Freeman as I hear is way more prepared to teach this class than Briles. She is ignorant and mouthy and somewhat of a dope.
She's a really cool person she likes to have fun and maks things easy to understand. Shes always prepared so you get notes before class to print them out. Her tests are just like the notes just switched around a little bit. you can only miss up to three classes and three homeworks untill it starts to affect your grade but id suggest taking briles f
Wonderful teacher, very helpful and amazing to have as a tutor!!
ughhh...Briles dont have great teachin skills...this is her 1st time teachin Calc, and barely anyone in the class is passing and just about all the students get tutoring. IDK why she wanted to teach Calculus but she isnt ready to. She needs training on how to teach it. Freeman should have taken her spot..MOre people could of passed...DONT TAKE HER!
Whoever posted before me must be my classmate. Anyways, she is not a bad teacher. Teaches in an understandable way. A funny, nice, helpful lady. If you don't pass it's because Calculus is difficult and you should put in the effort.
She is very helpful and available to help. tries her best for people. I have a B in the class now with out doing the hw. Calc 1 should be taken seriously, though. Not a very hard class to get at least a B in. I would take her for calc 2 if I could!
Did not like her class!! Her teaching style is not for me, I came to class to learn!! and not hear about her damn husband or son!!..It was like she was on speed!! talking and moving to fast in class and was only helpful to a special few that kissed her a**!! other than that I found her rude with an serious attitude problem!!
I got an A in her Calculus class no problem. As long as you do your homework you should be fine. If you don't do well it's probably just because not everyone is that good at math. The quizzes were really easy because she puts the easy problems on them. I got 100's each time. And she lets you use some type of notes for each of the tests!
i absolutley hate math, however i did better in her class then in any other math class ive ever taken i didnt get less then a b on anything she was a great prof. and i would definitly take her again if i could
I thought that I sucked at math before I took her class, but it actually turns out that I just needed more thorough explanations. She explains every single detail of every process. If you want to actually learn math, she is a great professor for you to take. The only negative thing I can think of is that she moves through material VERY quickly.
Mrs. Briles was a great teacher, she explained everything thoroughly. She prepared class notes beforehand so students could print them out and use them during class. She did teach quickly but I enjoyed her teaching style it kept me awake on a subject I'm not very good at. I would def. recommend taking her...loved her!
Awesome teacher. Do the homework and go to class and you should be fine. She's extremely helpful and while she does move fast (because she has to) she does take the time to make sure everyone understands the material.
Love her! Take her! She's great!
shes very attractive. very beautiful. id use stronger words if i could
She is seriously the best teacher i have ever had. I had to take this math class a few times and the teachers i had dont even compare to her. i highly recommend her, very helpful, little homework, and explains material very well.
Horrible ..her test are hard and she barely gives partial credit. I ended with a 79 in her class and she refused to give me the point for a B-............good luck!
She is AWESOME!! Best math teacher I've had. I did better in college math than in high school. Explains concepts very clear, very helpful, very approachable, can go to her after class and she will help you with anything! Ask any question and she will break it down for you to understand. If I could take her for all my math classes I would. TAKE HER!
partial credit on tests, hw each night with a final hw grade, gives notes prior to class for you to look over if you wish, moves fast but if you ask questions she will go over the problems until you understand them as long as she has time. Easy to understand. I still worked my butt off since math is hard for me, but got a B, nonetheless.
Class was really hard, I'm not really good at math though, but she was extremely helpful, went over things I didn't understand or homework problems I messed up on, things like that. I didn't do well, but I'd recommend taking her.
Cons include very hard exams and very restricted amount of time allowed to complete them. For the final we only were allowed one hour, when we should have been allowed two. Pros include good teaching skills, and plenty of examples.
Horrible teacher! talks way to fast and has major attitude to alot of the students!!!!
This is my second time taking a class with Briles. She absolutely LOVES math and it shows in her teaching. She knows her stuff. She's fast but will slow down if asked. She's also more than willing to meet outside of class hours to help students who need it. She has the gift to teach so I highly recommend taking any of the classes she teaches!
Wonderful teacher but you must work hard. I got used to the pace she teaches at. She explains the material very nicely! I am no good at math, but I received an A in her class. Just do your own part and come to every class and do your homework (graded by good effort, not accuracy). Homework/attendance alone count as an exam grade!
Briles is a gifted teacher. It is easy to tell who puts the time in to study and do homework. She can be sarcastic and short with the people who ask stupid questions because they're the people who do little work if any of their own time (they deserve it!) Excellent professor for all courses she teaches. I wish I could take her again.
She is an okay teacher. One thing does is make think a lot. An also give partial credit on test.If your one two point close to anther grade she wont bump it up.Also talks very loud so don't sit up front.
I never wrote on here before but I had to warn fellow students. I took this class because i heard she was a great teacher but i learned quickly i was misinformed. She speeds through her lessons and talks to you like your an idiot if you ask any questions. I have never had a teacher who was that rude and belittling to her students. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Love her! She does go fast but she will help you if you need it. taking her next semester for Mat 105! Best Mat 050 prof at GCC, i would know i took it 4 times!
Yes, Michelle Briles does move at a fast pace; however, I struggled in Math 105, but I received a “C” for my final grade in Michelle class, and if it was not for the extra 100 points she gave for completing all the homework & attendance I would have failed this math course. She made it more understandable for someone who struggled with Algebra.
I took the accelerated summer class. Professor Briles did move fast but we had to get through the material. She explains in detail and does many problems on the board. You do have to hand in homework but it counts toward your grade. I think she is an excellent teacher.
This is my 4th time taking calc. Dropped it twice and failed once. Of all those times Briles had to be the best teacher. Yes, she does move fairly quickly but she is definitely open to any and all questions. She even walks around the room from time to time to make sure we are all getting it. If u dont do HW or attend or ask question, you wont pass.
Mrs. Briles is a math teacher who knows her math but the fact of the matter is was she a great math teacher.
I often asked questions during class; however, the pace was accelerated and when I asked Mrs. Briles if she could slow down because I was lost and did not understand what was being taught during class her answer was NO!
With that being said, no student deserves to be belittled by anyone especially an instructor/teacher when they are challenged in a particular area of study.
Briles is a wonderful teacher. She moves fast but explains everything well and goes over LOTS of example problems to really help you learn. Make sure to go to every class and do your homework; this was a huge grade booster for me! Study a lot for exams and seek extra help and you should do fine. Put the work into it!
In her discrete class nothing match to well with the book. What she done in class was not what they had for the book in the class. She moves fast and does not explain discrete very well. She was unprepared for this class and it showed. Evan thou it her first time teaching the class she gave example that were nothing like in the book and test.
awesome teacher! I always hated math but she made it EASY to understand. Do all the homework and attend all classes and she adds 100 pts to the final grade, which helped. She goes over specific examples and her reviews are great. She goes fast but is willing to rewind and help with issues. Loved her class! Very friendly too. Take her for mat 105!!!
SHES AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEE. BEST TEACHER EVERRR. DO TAKE!!!
she is seriously the best teacher ever. only professor i didn't get sick of by the end of the semester. i wish i had to take another math just to have her as a teacher again. take her!
If you don't understand math (like myself) Professor Briles is amazing! I never thought i would understand math but she is the miracle answer! She does work at a fast pace but she makes everyone understands before you leave the class. Full of energy, she actually makes math fun! I highly recommend her if you are struggling in the math department.
Professor Briles is a great mathematics professor and she is very good at what she does. I took her for discrete math and I am very glad I did; she's the best.
I really liked Professor Briles. She is a very smart, funny and you can easily tell she enjoys her job. She is a top class professor and I would take again any semester.
She is a great teacher. I absolutley hated math... she made me like it. I would recommend her to everyone. As long as your willing to put in the time and actually study, i wouldn't see why any student would get a bad grade in her class.
She goes fast, there's no doubt about that. Be ready to write and do math quickly. I think that she makes up for it in being really helpful, clear, and down to earth. The tests are pretty simple if you know what you're doing and she drops the worst test grade. She takes attendance halfway through class. You'll miss a lot if you miss a class.
Ms. Briles teaches really fast. If you are not good at math, I would look elsewhere. She does help, but moves at her pace rather than the class's needs. I had the option of taking her again this semester, but decided to select a different professor.
Shes intelligent there's no doubt about that. But, she goes at her own pace - fast and doesnt really care if the students understand the material. Shes a tough grader, and wants things her way. If they arent then she automatically marks it wrong. Every other section (class) a quiz is given whether you know the material or no. dont recommend at all
I really enjoyed her class! She is very down to earth and funny, but can also talk really fast. If you are good at math you will do fine, but if you start off the class not not knowing anything you will have to go to every class and work hard. If you miss a class you will miss a lot. But i understood her well and would take the class again!
Prof. Briles is definitely the best math teacher I've ever taken. She goes at a very fast pace but only out of necessity. If you come to class/do homework that's a test grade. There's 4 tests with an optional final. She always tells you exactly what will be on the tests. If I needed more math, I would definitely take her. It was hard, but worth it.
Mrs. Briles is very knowledgeable in her field and clearly has a passion for Math, particularly Linear Algebra. I thought she taught a little too fast, but as long as you do the homework, the tests are fairly feasible. She is a very personable teacher and loves to teach her students. Definitely recommend!
You need to pay attention and DO HOMEWORK. The homework is optional but if you practice, the tests will be cake. Sometimes she even takes test problems from the homework. Practice practice practice. She's very nice too, a personal favorite of mine. Down to earth. But expects you to be responsible and holds you accountable
Mrs. Briles is a great teacher. She cares about her students' grades and never tries to make things tricky or confusing. Her tests are pretty easy and are exactly like her practice tests. Homework is optional but you should do it for extra practice. As long as you show up, do some of the homework, and do the practice tests, you'll get an A
Mrs. Briles is a great choice for any level of math. She is very intelligent, but is also fast paced. She has no problem going back and explaining again.
I am so glad I took her for this class. I slacked off since I had taken calc in high school and she was able to help get me back on track and get through the class. It really wasn't a hard class, just required some effort. It was a pretty fun class, always went by fast and she always explained things well. Just do the optional practice problems.
She is an awesome teacher! Easy to follow along and she gives you take home quizzes that help boost up your grade and help you understand the material. She is helpful if you have questions and reviews the day before the test! And the tests are just like the reviews!
Great professor. Goes very fast in class. quizzes are take home and easy 100's. she really wants you to understand the material. she is a tough grader, takes off a lot of points for every little mistake.
Professor Briles was an awesome lady. She was super nice and fun to have as a teacher. She lectured really fast but it was alright for me since I already took calculus in high school. Tests were pretty easy, exactly like the review packets she gives out. Definitely want to take her again for another math class here
Great teacher. Hard but fair. Gives clear instructions and expects you to know prerequisites. Pay attention, participate, ask questions, and do homework and you'll do well. Skip classes or don't pay attention, you're in trouble. Highly recommend.
She actually gets excited by math. The homework is optional, but do it. She does expect you to know pre reqs but will go over them quickly in class if need be. She is very nice but will be honest if you ask her a question. She will give partial credit. You don't need to bring the textbook to class, it is just for homework.
One of the best teachers at this school. I'm definitely glad I took her for calculus, and then liked her so much I took her for everything I could possibly take with her. I recommend taking her for what you can because she explains things very well and makes sure you understand the material.
Prof. Briles is the best! i took her for pre-calc and calc and i really enjoyed both! She gives review tests and keys which are amazing and extremely helpful for the real test. The course and her teaching is very organized and clear. The homework is optional but definitely do it. She's super helpful in class and really wants you to understand calc
Her class is difficult, but if you ask questions she is willing to help. She assigns good homework problems and goes over them in class and gives clear reviews before each exam. If you study and are good at math, you will pass the class no problem.
Professor Briles is such a fun lighthearted woman. It is calculus so it is tough but she loves it and will go back to answer any questions you have. Quizzes and tests are only hard if you do not study. Doesn't grade homework but you should do it, it will help. Give out study guides for tests. Final will cover your quiz average if its horrible haha
She was not a bad teacher in the sense that she was thorough in her lectures. However she is a terrible grader. Rarely gives partial credit at all which is nonsense. If she does its a point out of a 15 point problem
Have had Michelle for three semesters now. Love her classes. Tough but fair. Expectations are clearly laid out. Attend class, do the homework, and ask questions you'll be fine. Skip any of them and you'll fail. Highly recommend.
Prof Briles is upbeat and respectful! Her lectures are usually short and right to the point. Material isn't too bad, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND mastering ROW REDUCING as soon as possible. It will affect your grade heavily if you don't. Her tests are fairly easy as long as you know how to ROW REDUCE, as it comes up a lot throughout the semester.
The homework is optional but if you don't do it you most likely won't do good. There are no makeup quizzes or tests, so if you miss class that day you're getting a 0. No extra credit. There are reviews for tests that come with an answer key, but the key isn't always correct so its misleading you for the test. If you do the work you'll be fine.
Favorite professor!! Notes are online to print out, they match the powerpoints and lectures exactly. Only graded on 3 quizzes, 3 tests, and a final, but I still wouldn't skip class or you'll struggle. Highly recommend even if you're not good at math. Stay after class or go to office hours and she'll help you! Such a kind and hilarious person
I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who gets the chance to take Prof Briles's class, do it! She is such a caring and warm person. She will spend extra time with you before and after class to go over things. I'm not a math person, but she made me enjoy the class, never once dreaded it. Overall amazing woman and professor! 10/10. Wish I could take her again
Even though a friend recommended this teacher, I don't think she is the best math teacher in my opinion. She teaches at a very fast pace, which I can end up getting lost in the material. Homework is optional, but I highly recommend you should do it to pass. She is very specific on what to do on tests also. Not a bad teacher, but one i don't prefer.
Professor Briles is great! I took her twice because I did not practice the homework the first time around so I had to withdraw. She only grades exams and it's important to keep them because the final will rely on it! attendance is NOT mandatory but if you want the notes you have to show up! I suggest attending the class. she gives partial credit.
Professor Brilles is by far one of the best professors I've had thus far. She's cool, smart and helpful; though you may have to correct her when she makes "dinky mistakes" but she encourages this. Easily my favorite class so far, got a 100 on test 1, 100 on test 2, 92 on final ( she drops your lowest test grade for me it was test 3). Overall great
Professor Briles is good at what she does, and you learn a lot. But if you're looking to get the "A" don't take this class. She has never curved or given extra credit, even though on multiple occasions the class average would be a D.
Fun professor, just pay attention and do the hw. Homework didn't count towards final grade, but it's the best way to retain the info from class. Best at explaining concepts and problems, as long as you ask her to go over it.
Horrible. Just Horrible. Goes too fast, on top of that, her rubric is completely unfair for online. She wont even give you more time on tests. Only 1:15 to complete long tests. Honestly ridiculous.
Prof Briles' class is great. The recorded lectures were always clear on the material and she gave opportunities to ask questions directly during scheduled zoom meetings. Homework is not graded but should be done to practice. The only thing I disliked was the 1.5hr time to complete tests which can definitely be longer. Overall a great professor!
Prof Briles is very upfront with the fact that she grades hard and doesn't offer extra credit. I found myself struggling slightly, as she only takes into account your quiz and test grades, so there is no room to help yourself better your grade. I personally would not recommend this professor to anyone.
As someone who is rather passionate about math I thought I could handle her 5 week summer course especially since I had just taken pre calc but she made a hard course even harder. She offers no extra credit or help and grades you only on the 11 quizzes(yes 11 quizzes in 5 weeks) and 2 exams. Awful lectures and no sympathy. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Fast paced and loves to talk about herself
Calculus is not easy but Briles clearly explains what is expected, gives reviews for tests, drops the lowest grade. If you go to class and do the homework you should be fine. She gives partial credit on all tests and quizzes.
Professor gives quizzes every week and gives you only two exams. Also, just gives you two videos to watch every week and expects you to learn everything. Does not give the full commitment to help students. Not a very good professor at all!
Professor Briles was great for Linear Algebra and she really cares for all of her students, she wants to see them do well.
Professor Briles online class has weekly quizzes that make you keep up with the material. She has a weekly Zoom session for any students to log into and ask any question. She cares about her students. There are 2 tests that match up exactly to the review topics she gives to know for each test.
Class was fully built around tests, as there was no other grade in the class besides 4 tests. Would have been much better with graded HW or quizzes. No extra credit at all. She'd make at least 3 mistakes per class on the lecture problems, and she talks way too fast to understand everything she says. STUDY THE TEXTBOOK. Overall below average class.
I took her for her online Calculus 1 class, and I did not like her tests. She's a tough grader on her exams and only has a midterm and final that count for 33% of your grade each! She expects every single piece of work to be submitted, otherwise, no points are given. Her quizzes are not too hard, and she doesn't grade homework.
I liked Professor Briles. She was available every week for questions in a Zoom and responded to my email very quickly and answered all my questions. Her lessons explained everything and she was clear on what was expected on the tests. If you do the homework you will do well in the course.
Don't take her class! She is a horrible professor and is rude to her students. If anyone asks a question she gets petty and annoyed. She gives out a lot of information and no time to write any of it down. It shows her teaching skills when on the first test the class average was a low F. She won't give extra credit and she talks about herself a lot.
Go to the classes and do the homework and you'll be alright. She goes through the material fast but will help you succeed if you put in effort.
I took her precalc class, great professor. put in the work and you'll be good, best math teacher at rcsj and is always willing to help if you have shown that you care. I recommend sitting in the front and ask questions there's a review that says she gets petty if you ask a question that isn't true at all shes great.
Terrible professor who bases her whole class on three grades. She goes way too fast through complicated material, will not answer questions in class without an eyeroll or exasperated expression, and nit picks every little mistake on tests. When half of the students in your class are failing, it's not the students who are at fault.
I likes Briles' class. You had to come prepared to work, it is Calculus, but she give a ton of partial credit. There were 3 tests and 3 quizzes and a Final exam that took the place of a bad test. She gives you every chance to succeed. She was funny and answered every question students asked. My class was pretty quiet and did not ask many.
Professor Briles' MAT108 class moves quickly, but she's helpful if you put in the effort. Quizzes and exams are the focus - use unstuck ai alongside the textbook to stay on top of the material.
I've taken this professor both online and in person. I can't recommend one above the other, because I refuse to recommend either. She has the attention span of a house plant, is easily distracted, and likes to make sure that everyone knows she's the top Math dog in the room. If you struggle with new math concepts, avoid her if possible.
Linear Algebra is difficult and she made it harder. She only grades based of 3 tests and a Final, with no opportunities to boost your grade. The tests are hard, however if you pay attention and do HW they are doable. She has a very short attention span and tends to get off topic, while also struggling to copy notes from a paper to the board.
Class isn't hard as long as you do the work. She has video recordings of her doing the material, which helps. Just be aware, she's strict about how you show your work. Even if you get the right answer, she'll take off 2–3 points if your steps don't exactly match hers or if you miss a small detail. Not unfair, but definitely very particular.
Calculus is tough but doable if you put in the effort. Mrs. Briles truly wants you to succeed. There are only 3 quizzes and 4 tests, and homework isn't graded—but do it anyway! It builds the muscle memory you need. Follow her method, ask questions, and do the test reviews—you'll do well. DO THE HOMEWORK!!!
She would do wonders in a high school environment. Treats everyone like they're 16 years old with nothing else going on in their lives besides this class. Way too strict for a college prof. She goes very quick through material, and somehow explains things in a confusing way, even though the material could be explained much simpler. Don't recommend.
Treats the class like it's a "who's the best at calc" competition. Flies through problems and barely explains through it. Treats you like a high school student, barely as an adult. If you took calc in high school she won't be that bad but from someone who is awful at math, take calc at another school.
Briles was the GOAT. Had her for Pre Calc. Had take home quizzes every week. Explained everything so I could understand. We had a test review day before every test. She did go a bit quickly but that was due to the amount of material she had to cover.
Lazy professor, provided useless notes, with example problems but DID NOT INCLUDE THE ANSWERS. Made a lot of mistakes during the lecture and when she gave practice problems in class she would write the answer 2 seconds later without giving enough time to actually answer the question. She gave too many problems on the tests without enough time.
Imagine paying out of pocket just for the professor to say that she doesn't believe in study guides. She provides little to no information for you to study with other than useless notes that have example problems without them being completed. Runs through problems while make mistakes every step of the way. Would not recommend.
Prof.Briles was very energetic everyday, she made a mistake or two, but far less than I was expected based on what I had heard. She came in early helping students with questions and answered every question any student had in class. If you decided not to do the homework or practice the methods, that is not her fault. She clearly enjoys what she does
