I took this during a summer course. You HAVE to read EVERYTHING! No skipping over any of the reading assignments. The tests are very easy, and so are the journals just keep up with them. She gives you two papers one is with a partner. She grades really hard on the papers but will help you out if you ask for help on them Don't take if you slack off
hard you have to do quizes papers and other stuff
I had no problem with her, until she told me that using the Bible is a unreliable. And that my religious beliefs were false. That sure made my day!
very hard, demanding. likes to hit on her students. you can write a very good paper, but if she is in a bad mood give you a bad grade for it! =(
Awesome teacher. I really enjoyed her class. She's very passionate about lit and is extremely helpful if you're having issues with the assigned paper. I had a B but she bumped it up to an A because I was always there for class. Really nice and thoughtful.
Great teacher. Very respectful of students and their opinions. Very relaxed classroom environment which proved very conducive to learning. I would recommend her creative writing course to anyone serious about writing exceptional literature. She has a wealth of knowledge to offer.
Moody, wants everyone to be as great as her. She give you a B if she doesn't like the topic of your paper.
she puts her point of view too much when grading papers. If she does not like you she will not give a good grade. She really doesnt like having anything religous mentioned in the writing, she will give her opinion about, which i could care less. She believes that her opinions are the right ones.
if you want to fail take her....she is very intimidating makes the class very hard and difficult.
Yeah I agree, most of you people are morons. I have never seen nor heard of anyone disliking her classes except those who don't care for their own education. This woman was really helpful and understanding. She sees right through those who slack off. I highly recommend this teacher.
The class itself is not bad at all. Alot of writing and alot of reading. No problems with the teacher just alot of work. Essays get hard, my opinion find an easier teacher but she is kind of an easy grader.
Instructor is respectful & educated...very helpful lessons & activities on how to improve your writing..not recommended for students who slack off...a lot of work to be done..must turn in papers on time...extra credit opportunities are offered.
She is very biassed and liberal. She gives more work than other teachers. She is nice if you are nice & come to class everyday. She only lets you write on her views. I dreaded this class.
Her Women's Literature class was very difficult but it was very rewarding. I didn't know it was a feminist class. I did not agree with what she said at times. You HAVE to earn your grade. Read the material, write your journals, and turn everything in on time. She does claim to be open-minded but is closed-minded on certain subjects. Hard class.
Awesome.
I took her for english 1301. She's a very tough and thorough grader. While I did not like it at the time, I am very happy that she is that tough, because she thoroughly prepares you for your future if writing is required. Although she was tough, she did have grading workshops repeadly before the paper was due. You will come out clean and polished!
I hold such different life views than her that I thought she was giong to "blackball" me, but when I stuck with my views, she actually became quite supportive. Anyone who says she's a hard teacher has never been to a major university.
She Loves to make you write over and over and over.
She is a good teacher. I would recommend her for creative writing. However, it is almost the end of the semester and not once has she given us our grades or spoke of them....that kind of worries me.
She is a wonderful teacher who made class interesting and fun. I truly enjoyed her class
The rate at which she understands the system of grading is amazing. The feed back on your writing is pristine and thorough. I hope more of her bosses recognize this. You can't get this kind of passion and sense in any other class around the campus.
I was under the impresion that this class would be enjoyable. The writing assignments weren't difficult, but class discussions were, intimidating, Brown is a full blown femenists and you cannot disagree with her. I made As on all my work but somehow finished the class with a C.....
me experienece in 1301 was amazing i only thought 1302 would be better but this teacher was so blunt and doesnt care for any mistake what so ever on your papers. It was paper after paper.
I DONT RECOMMEND ANYONE THIS TEACHER, SHE GRADES HARD. YOU REALLY CANT DISAGREE WITH HER, SHE FEELS EVERYTHING SHE SAY IS RIGHT. I HAD TO GO TO THE DEAN FOR THIS LADY, AT THE END THE DEAN DIDNT DO ANYTHING. SHE DOESNT BELIEVE IN GIVING STUDENTS A'S. I WILL NEVER TAKE HER AGAIN.
She is the worst teacher ever!! I was in her class all semester. Her class started out with 32 people. At the end of the semester there were only 5 people in the class remaining. She laughed when it was brought to her attention of the fact that she barely had anyone in her class. Brown doesnt believe in A's.
Ms. Brown was excellent. Dispite disruption in the class, she did not hold a grudge. She treated everyone as equal, and addressed everything when she should, how she should. I think many people had an issue with her because of this. They do not know how to appreciate it. But it is truly a gift to successfully be able to properly treat everyone.
Michelle is a wonderful teacher and an even better human being. She expects her students to excel and gives them all the tools they need to do so. If you follow the syllabus, you will receive an A. She is an English professor; compare the quality of writing between those that have given her good reviews and those that have not. I can't say enough.
She is an excellent teacher! The class can be difficult because she assigns a great deal of work, but it is totally worth it. Class discussion is riveting and makes you actually want to go to class. I would suggest that anyone who is open minded and wants to broaden their horizons take this course!!! Five gold stars for sure!!
She was a great professor. I had a lot of fun in her Creative Writing class, and if you have the time to fit it in, I strongly recommending that you do so.
She is an ok professor. I took her class online and she gave alot of work. Be prepared to do alot of papers. The biggest complaint I have is that she takes FOREVER to grade your work. I have already taken my final exam and I'm still waiting on grades back on previous essays. It takes her over a month to get grades back to you.
The whole time she was rude. She glazed over my paper and would comment on mechanical errors (not content) and give me a "C" for MECHANICAL ERRORS,..when I tried to nicely write her and explain, she'd write back and take off points on my essay for "inconvenience"...true story. I used to love english and writing, now I can't wait to be DONNNEEEE!!!
Very focused teacher who is devoted to teaching you the best, but graded very hard on all the essays. I would not count on an easy A by any means. Expect a lot of discussions and readings to be conducted weekly. Make sure you have spare time for her class, you will need it. I did in fact learn a lot from her class though.
Online class:The work in the class is decent. You will have a weekly responce to a story or poems. You must respond to two classmates work. Five paper's which are graded very tough. Nice Teacher responds to questions quickly. She just grades too hard.
You WILL learn how to write a good paper if you keep her criticism in mind. Grading not that difficult. I have learned so much in her class. I definitely recommend her! 3 papers, no tests, one essay final. You will have quick writes on some stories out of Legacies that should be read prior to class. Detailed syllabus. TAKE HER you won't be sorry!
good teacher. as long as you do your work. you should get a easy A from that class. dont understand all the native comments about her, she is a really nice teacher.
I took Michelle Brown for American Literature. I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT TAKING THIS TEACHER! She acts like this is the only class you have and makes your work load a lot harder than it should be. She tried to drop me for my apparent behavior and is an unfair teacher. She doesn't teach. Makes you go to office hours for any questions. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Great teacher. The class primarily consisted of writing 3 papers and the final. Rough drafts are due before the final paper, so use it to your advantage because she gives informative feedback on a one on one level. Also make sure to keep up on legacies readings and you should be fine!
I loved Ms. Brown! She is so nice and very liberal so she doesn't really care what is said in class (unless it hurts someone in the class). Keep up with the readings and you will succeed in her class. The whole class is discussion so be sure to participate!
Dont take her class , you come to class and do nothing just to listen to her and do a lot of work
The class was easy, very standard but horrible teacher; grades too hard and grades only by her opinions instead of how you write. Seems like she wants you to think like her. Never taking this professor again.
I took a creative writing with Mrs. Brown and if you ever had any aspirations of becoming a writer, this is THE class to take! I had so much fun in this class it has been the best of my college career, I learned so much from her, and other students. It's an easy A too as long as you go to class, and write!
she is a really good professor. even though it is a pre-req class it is no joke. papers must be written and there is a lot of reading involved. slacking is no option. as long as you stay on top of the due assignments and devout time to this class you will make an A. she is a great teacher and wants everyone to do well and succeed!
I took this class online. This Professor did not seem very interested in helping me. I asked repeatedly for clarification of assignments and was told information was sufficient. I was very frustrated through out the semester. Fortunately, I made a decent grade despite the lack of help.
1) hard grader, will take points off if you miss a period or comma. 2) rude and not very helpful - hardly available. 3) will criticize your work but not provide guidance. 4) no extra credit. 4) strict with due dates (unless they are hers). 5) you will do a lot of work in her class. bottom line, you will work hard and not learn much in her class.
Prof. Brown demands excellence from her students. After taking her ENG 2307 course you will be TOTALLY prepared for the rest of your college career regarding the expectations of any university college professor thereafter. She teaches what you must know in order to be a successful university graduate. She is tough but the best are usually not easy.
She loves to discuss the reading material, so be prepared to contribute to the discussion. Make an effort and don't slack off or your grade will reflect it. She obviously loves what she does.
Awesome teacher. Feminist, opinionated, and a strict grader, Michelle Brown will push you to produce your best work. The class is not a heavy load, however does require work (but lets face it people your in college!) Over all a wonderful teacher.
She tends to get a tad off subject however she is very friendly and gets along great with the class.
Do not take this teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She acts like you have to think the way she thinks. Tough grader! She tried to give me a 0 for plagiarizing when there was no plagiarize just the question she had in her prompt to answer! Horrible teacher! She grades on if she likes you or not! like, seriously on your personality!
Dr. Brown changed my perspective on the way we look at American Literature. She is very direct in her instructions and she knows that her students are capable of succeeding. She makes it very clear from day one that you earn your grade and I think that that is important to know. She is wonderful and I enjoyed having her as a professor!
Great professor! She is very patient and she is always willing to help you. Mrs Brown is very into what she teaches so it makes the class fun and interesting what makes the time pass faster. Keep up with the readings and the papers assigned and you will do fine in her class.
I really enjoyed her class! It was a lot of reading, but I enjoyed most of the poems and stories. If I wasn't exactly sure on what I had just read, I knew it would all be explained in class.
She was a wonderful professor for creative writing! However, you cannot cut out an entire genre of literature for students who want to write it. She did not tolerate any fanfiction, fine by me, but she also cut out fantasy. That bothered me as I am a fantasy genre published author. Other than that she was a fantastic professor.
Michelle Brown is a great professor. I took her class in the first summer term and really learned a lot from her lectures. She has an easy to follow assignment list and checklist on the D2L page, -that was really helpful! She is also very nice and willing to help you with every question you have. I would take her again.
Let me start off by saying Professor Brown is an exceptional and inspiring professor. She has a great method of teaching, and if you don't understand, she'll be more than happy to help. She is extremely kind and understanding, but make sure you do your work. There is no such thing as "B.S." in this class. Work has to be done, it's no joke. 5/5
Is a very good professor she helps a lot and is quirky it is fun being in her clasd
Professor Brown is very professional. She has a lot of experience teaching and she is very well organized. I enjoyed her class because she created a nice learning environment. She would tell you every day what she expects to accomplish and from the syllabus you have to prepare your reading for each class in case of a 'surprise" short essay.
Having Michelle brown as a professor was a good choice. She is deeply knowledgeable and has insider professional experience when it comes to poems. Class is not easy but not hard if you keep up with the syllabus. All In all I wold take her again.
I originally signed up for Brandi Garza, but walked into her classroom. She's very stubborn and will always make you write, She made us write 10 page essay, so write till your fingers bleed. Forget about getting an A she hates that. Avoid her at all cost.
Show up to class, follow her syllabus, put in the effort, and you will be okay! Dr. Brown knows what she's doing and is very passionate. I took her for both 1301 & 1302. There is only one paper that seemed to scare everyone and that was the last essay for both 1301 & 1302 (10 page paper), but she breaks it down into chunks so it isn't as scary.
DO NOT TAKE HER, SAVE YOURSELF BELIEVE ME!! HARD GRADER! she grades the way she thinks is right and not the proper way according to a rubric. she brings in politics into the lesson which is very unprofessional. She will argue with you if you do not agree with her way of thinking, she always wants to be right. very rude and doesn't care.
She is a great professor for 1301. she doesn't expect her students to know material that has not been covered. For instance, the first paper does not need to be proper MLA or have proper citations. We had to read about 20-60 pages of the textbook a week, but it is a quick read. She cares about the success of her students and is an easy grader.
Professor Brown, despite what you might read on here, is actually a good professor. She doesn't expect college writing right off the bat, as you gradually build up to that. If you do the readings and turn your work in on time, you'll be fine. She's a good 1301 teacher, but don't expect easy grading. She'll give you a 89 just to push you todo better
Professor never puts the over all grade on D2L. Other professors have the overall grade weeks before finals week.
She grades super hard. i wrote one of the best essays i have probably ever written, and got it edited by my dad and my dads friend who is an editor at a newspaper. And she still gave me a 70 after i had worked so hard on it. i would not take her class because she grades very hard.
The class is very challenging, there were 4 essays, all more than 2 pages, and one of them was 10 pages. Lots of group work is involved and weekly readings. Put in lots of effort and you can pass. Professor brown is willing to help, and she teaches well.
I liked professor Brown to be honest, it did take some time to warm up to her but she's fair. You do A LOT of work, but its college and she just challenges you to do your best. Attendance is mandatory and I would not skip any assignments. If you at least try she will at least give you a a fair grade for effort.
Professor Brown was awesome and I wish I could take her in 1302. If you do not like to write then her class may not be for you, but if you do she is the perfect candidate to take her course.
Very hard grader!! If you have more than 5 absences she will fail you no matter what! She will grade your essays ruthlessly! Overall I would not recommend her she is a very strict and harsh grading professor!
If you want to succeed, find another professor. From the get-go she sets you up for failure. She makes it CLEAR that you wont get an A and that truly upset me because I plan on attending law school. I do my absolute best but her assignments are awful and are WAY to complex for English 2. She is boring and rude and really does not care to help.
Spring semester: Very tough grader, will deduct points heavily for little grammatical errors and punctuation errors. Does not have compassion for late work and grades by calendar day (if you have class on Thursday and dont turn it in, by that next Tuesday she will not take it 0). lectures get very long and tiring. based on the environment
She's a caring and nice professor. If you communicate with her she'll understand but she is a tough grader. This is not a class you should slack off, very essay oriented. No tests or quizzes just essays!
Textbooks are required to do essays and also for mini group project. I did 4 essays in total, no test just the final at the end of the semester which was not hard at all. I took maybe 2 mini quizzes in her class. Although, get ready to write in class. Not a difficult class if you do your work. Would recommend to anyone!
Michelle Brown is a wonderful professor if you enjoy English and writing. She is passionate about the subject matter and is excited to teach! I could see why someone would not enjoy her class as she is strict on attendance and requires a lot of homework. However, I loved her class and she gave me a love for writing.
I would have given her a 0 but it won't let me. She gave me a 50 because I forgot to put quotation marks on one of my quotes. Does not explain things clearly enough. When she speaks it makes me want to fall asleep. Lecture days are the worst. She just talks and talks. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
I have mixed feelings about this professor. She is a tough grader but you must give your all. Read ahead because sometimes she jumps ahead without warning, which caused me not to do well on a read response. We have about 4 quick writes and she gives 10 minutes to write it. I liked her but she is tough.
I went in expecting a hardcore tough professor. Instead, I found that she really tries to be well-rounded, inclusive, and open-minded. Yes, she has high expectations for participating and turning in work but if you just do the work you'll be fine. I really learned a lot from her class. Even after going online cuz of the virus she did great.
Do not sign up for this professors class. absolutely horrible. expects you to know how to write an APA paper for the first time. grades super hard. DONT TAKE HER.
She's nice enough as a person. There was an essay due 3 days after the course started and I thought that was going to be the end of me, but I eventually managed to get past it. There's 4 major papers, with the last one (research paper) being six pages minimum. She gives you feedback on audio recordings which makes it a little more coherent.
I had her for the 6 week creative writing course and it was one of my favorite classes i have ever taken. Participate and turn inn your work on time on you will do great. She was personable, inspiring and helped me become a confident writer. I recommend her as a prof.
Michelle brown is a good teacher to have if someone is looking to become a journalist for the New York Times. However if you have a job and English isn't your strongest trait then I recommend you look for another teacher. She gives out lots work and if you can't find the time in your busy life to turn it in, she won't take late work.
Professor Brown is a great professor, I am taking her for ENGL 1302 also. She uploads videos each week explaining her expectations and the assignments. Once you get used to the schedule (Tuesday/Thursday after 1 pm), you will do great in this class. Prof. Brown gives great feedback on essays. No tests, 4 essays, and a few reading responses.
Professor Brown is AMAZING and so sweet. Her class was a little tough but nothing you can't handle. No test, lots of discussions, always puts out videos to watch based on the lecture or next paper, only had to write 4 papers, one paper with a minimum of 6 pages. Gives great feedback. Very understanding as long as you communicate with her.
Do not take her. She was absolutely no help.
I took Professor Brown for ENGL 1301. I enjoy her teaching style because she is strict and analytical, but also is kind and reassuring. The textbook was not used at all for ENGL 1302 but you do need it to access inquisitive I believe. No tests or quizzes, only papers.
I think this class is for English strong students, She graded too harshly on my first essay, she even flagged me for plagiarism but I liked how she really enjoyed English, I; am just not English savvy. She does do inquizitive ( that's the worse part about the class, was about 60 of those assignments) but she did give you the whole semester.
NOOOO awful. I was upset I had a Prof change this was a BIG change. she is very into the environment so expect to write only essays on that literally never a different topic, most of the time she is setting you up for failure. simply wouldnt take this class again. essay requirements are long. she is just so strict. shes nice and very sweet
Absolutely WONDERFUL teacher. She is knowledgeable and is happy to assist/answer questions. She does now allow late assignments but gives students ample time to complete work. If you chose to procrastinate then that is on you, not the teacher. I would 100% recommend. She is honest, respectful, and wants you to learn. That's why we are here, right?
Great professor who wants her students to learn. She is very knowledgeable and will work with you every step of the way if you need help, just have to ask. Late work is not allowed, but she gives ample time to get the work done. Don't procrastinate and you will be fine. I would 10/10 recommend and would take her again if I was able to.
She's a great professor but she's a strict grader. Her online class gives you enough time to finish your assignments.
If youd like to take a nap.
Shes a hard grader and takes her job entirely too serious. Do yourself a faov and get a better english professor
I never wanted to go to class. I would not reccomend her because I felt like the assignments were kind of repetitive and based on one thing. She was nice but I feel like English class has to be more entertaining and creative assignments wise .
