I recommend Proffessor Carrgian to anyone taking history at IRSC. She caught me off guard, because she's very lively and interactive, and normally I dislike that, but she makes it interesting and fun, without being annoying. She's extremely helpful and is there whenever you need her. Her assignments are simple, yet get the job done.
I do not recommend her at all. She rarely uses the text book and even stated to the class that she her tests don't follow her powerpoints. The tests are hard because you have no notes to study from and they involve a good bit of writing. Your class grade is also based on participation, so if you're a quite person you're screwed.
Professor Carrigan is an excellent teacher. It's kind of funny, she says "alright" after literally Every. Single. Sentence. Tips: Do the review questions she gives on Angel for the reading, whether their due or not. TAKE NOTES! If you don't, there is NOWHERE else you can find it in her words. It's an EASY A if you take notes and do the study guide.
I think that Mrs. Carrigan is good at preparing an interesting lesson (well as interesting as American history can get). She gives detailed study guides for each test, which helps a lot. One thing I dislike is how she grades you based on your in class participation which is a major struggle if you have social anxiety.
I would not recommend this teacher at all. She was very disorganized. You can't go back to her power points for reference because they're question based with no answers. You definitely need to participate in class, it's a big part of your grade. Overall all her teaching were unsatisfactory.
Do not I repeat do not purchase a text book for this class cause she do not use it. All exams are base on her class lectures you will not find the answers anywhere else so go to class. I would not recommend anyone to take her at all, unless you know that you will attend her classes and not miss one or your skrewed...
Dr. Carrigan is lively, yet down to earth. Some of her questions really made me think. Definitely do the assignments and participate in class . If you have questions, ask her. You can tell that she wants to see students do well.
Not too easy but if you go to class, take notes and study, you have it made. Enjoyable
Dr. Carrigan is incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic in her teaching. She loves good debates which makes class very interesting. If you read the book/materials and attend every class, you are sure to get a great grade.
I really hate history but I think this is the first time I really enjoy a History class, she is a great teacher, always in a great mood, and gives a lot of extra credit assignments. it is an easy class.
I've never been a history fan & was prepared for the worst taking this during summer. Dr. Carrigan made things interesting. She showed videos and had classroom discussions that made the class entertaining. She went over test questions before exams to make sure everyone was prepared. She's knowledgeable and very down to earth. Highly recommended
I loved her when I took Western Civilization II! If you take notes, participate in talking maybe a few times, and show up to every class you will do very well :)she is passionate and makes it very interesting, I would HIGHLY recommend her for any history class!
Carrigan is one of the best professors I've ever had. I've already taken two classes with her and would take more if I didn't have all the credits I need! Her lectures are very interesting and easy to follow, and she's approachable and always willing to help. Participation is important - be sure to answer questions! Tests directly from lecture.
Dr. Carrigan is an amazing Professor. She will help you with anything and you will also learn in her class. Also, if you are a head strong person, at first you may have some difficulties getting to know her, but once you do she is just awesome. I would most definitely take one of her classes again.
Dr. Carrigan is very bubbly which makes an otherwise boring class fun! For her midterm & final (the only test we had) she went over the EXACT questions & answers in class. She's very passionate & knows her stuff! She doesn't like text books, but uses it occasionally for primary source work. Offers easy extra credit. Show up for class & your're set!
Dr. Carriagan was an amazing teacher. I loved her class because not only did we have lectures and discussions but, we were able to look at primary sources and analyze them. I would totally recommend her. I plan on taking her for western civ.
Professor Carrigan was an alright teacher. Not the best and not the worst. She really makes American History as interesting and fun as it which isnt much, but was enough to get me through her class. Had the subject been my favorite I probably would have liked her more!
Dr. Carrigan was helpful and easy-going. Although she assigned a lot of short essays, there was plenty of time to get them all done. You just have to be willing to put in the work. Super quick at emailing back, and always helpful. Only SMALL thing, she was a bit unorganized at 1st. It was hard to keep track of things, but just organize yourself.
Dr. Carrigan was amazing. Her class was so easy and her lectures were very entertaining. There are 5 quizzes which all come straight from her lecturespowerpoints. She gives you the questions and answers to her mid term and final the class before you take them by playing jeopardy.
Dr. Carrigan is the BEST History Professor!! She is approachable and is there for her students. Don't miss any classes, take notes, and participate, and you are sure to pass. She does not give much homework, and always provides reviews before exams that you don't want to miss!!! She is passionate about her subject!! She is a fair grader. Love her!
Carrigan's history class was amazing. You make it as challenging as you want, if you choose not to attend class, PARTICIPATE, study, and ask questions then you will have a very tough time in this class. Her lectures are always entertaining, opens up your mind to new horizons.
DO YOUR ASSIGNED READING. honestly it's the only way to assure you do well on the quizzes every week. she's super nice and really funny, but she expects you to do your work and do your work well. you won't pass if you don't show up every day. pay attention in class, do your reading, and show up for the final review and you'll do fine!
Horrible teacher, does not tell you what's on the tests, you have to guess. Absolutely no study materials for final. Tests you on quizzes before she actually teaches the lesson. you have to be an outgoing loud person to pass, it's all about participation. if your a quiet person you will fail. Never take this woman. Horrible teacher!
I took her for AMH2020. You must read the book! but if you need help ask her and she will help you!!!!
Dr. Carrigan is an amazing professor that always strives to make sure everyone understands what she is teaching! Her lectures are very intriguing and make you want to learn history. There are not many tests, but reading the chapters for her quizzes is essential to passing. I definitely recommend taking her!
I took Western Civ: Origins online with Carrigan and it was a breeze as long as you did the quizzes and followed the reading. One discussion a week, one quiz every 1-2 weeks, a mid term and a final. The tests are the quiz questions (which she lets you review with the right answers) and 1-2 long answer questions. Impossible to not pass.
Dr. Carrigan is a phenomenal professor and I would never be able to say otherwise. She is extremely understanding and wants her students to enjoy history; her lectures are insightful and interesting. This was my second class with her and all I have to say is pay attention and participate in class discussions and you'll pass with flying colors.
Dr. Carrigan is average but is EXTREMELY biased and criticizes for not agreeing with her. I am taking her for American History and so far it feels like an English course. Every piece of writing in her class HAS to be formal or else she deducts points. Would not recommend taking Dr. Carrigan unless you are the teacher's pet but other than that no.
Great teacher ,easy to work with. A answer questions i, glass and awnswer emails promptly.
Hardest class ever. We were required to buy the textbook but it was never used. Tests are ridiculously difficult and after reading and studying the instructors materials, still could not pass a test, even with notes and multiple history books. Test questions seem subjective. Class not based on historical facts. No extra credit. Hard to pass class.
Was confused with not only the material, but the professor. The material was all over the place. We the students had to figure out and do everything alone. The assigned readings were painful as they are extremely hard to understand. Quizzed on material the professor never taught or went over. Essay was a joke with no hep from the teacher.
Dr. Carrigan was extremely helpful and was available to meet with me. She is down-to-earth and passionate about learning.
As others stated, material is all over the place. More time spent on world history, race relations, womens suffrage than actual American history. Material is not taught in timely fashion, all curriculum is reading and watching on line NPR (and other) articles and videos, a lot of which is not even American history. Tests are ridiculously difficult.
The class started out overwhelming and too fast paced so she slowed it down and tried to clarify the assignments. No book was needed. She gave study guides and seemed very pleasant when I needed help. I feel like she tried hard when students tried. The general set up of the class was confusing but that's the college not the teacher.
Dr. Carrigan will do anything she can to help you but does NOT use a textbook and material is very scattered and not taught in the order history occurred. Not a typical American History class, subject matter was all over the place, mostly subjects she feels do not get enough attention. Very, very difficult class to pass. She is nice, class is tough
Instructor is very nice and helpful but very critical and biased. No textbook, made-up curriculum consisting of so many videos and articles to read and decipher. All writing assignments are based on critical thinking, grammar must be perfect but most of all, you have better write about what she likes and must agree with her opinions. Tests are hard
Incredible professor who really cared about all of her students. She always made sure everyone understood the material and made it known that she was available if you ever had any questions. As long as you do your work and give her your best efforts, you're guaranteed to pass. Best history professor ever!!
Dr. Carrigan doesn't teach you things that will help you win jeopardy. Her lectures are more important than the slides, she uses the slides as a guideline of what you should take down. She assigns a lot of reading that is necessary for passing the quizzes.
Doesn't believe in taking notes, so readings out side of class are 10x harder & same with tests given. be prepared for pop up quizzes, theyre daily. DO NOT BE LATE or you have to sit outside until beginning quiz is finished. She is very rude and is not laid back at all especially about cell phone usage. if you even look down you will be yelled at
Hardest online class I have ever taken. Not standard history curriculum, class was confusing, material all over the place, left out most important events of the period, tests are painful. She, however, is very nice. The curriculum is dreadful, no textbook used and you will not be able to look up any answers to questions as it will be subjective.
Dr. Carrigan was the first history professor I've had that actually made the subject interesting for me and made me understand how events are interconnected. She does require class participation, but it doesn't take much to get full credit for it. Overall, I'd definitely recommend taking her class.
Dr. Carrigan really cares about her students. She wants her students to develop a critical thinking mind. Her lectures are awesome and you don't really need to use the book. Just show up to class and pay attention. If you enjoy learning in a interactive environment she is the professor for you!
Showing up is important to pass because Dr. Carrigan grades certain assignments that can only be done in class. She never says which will be graded and which will not. It is also important to show up because the same assignments are apart of an essay due towards the end of the semester.
Dr. Carrigan is very tough when it comes to grading. The amount of detail and specifics that she wants you to put in your work is ridiculous. Also, we spent upwards of six classes talking about women's rights, while we didn't talk about the revolutionary war at all. Most of the class is just analyzing sources instead of learning actual history.
There are a lot of short writing assignments on historical sources, only one essay at the end of the class. I'm a dual-enrollment student and I thought the assignments were easy. Ask good questions and she will help you to understand the material. She encourages class discussion and participation. Do the work and take notes and you'll do well.
Very intelligent woman, but I would not recommend her if you are not a History buff and you are not good with giving specific details.
I enjoyed this class, maybe because I like history, but it was cool to learn. There is a lot to do like read and do the study guides. There is an essay that she gives but one time, and some DB. As long as you study you'll be good. I do recommend studying the exams & DB! it is so helpful once you take it.
Doctor Carrigan is an amazing teacher. Participate in class and show effort and you will learn something new about why things happened in history. I would definitely recommend Doctor Carrigan.
Professor Carrigan is a great professor! Her lectures are great and entertaining. If you miss class, you will obviously not pass. The quizzes are based off the reading material so there is no reason to not pass the quizzes unless you didn't do the assigned reading. Will take for 2020! I looked forward to coming to her class.
Dr. Carrigan cares about her students. I took the class with the idea she was the worst professor ever. Honestly, everything she explained was crystal clear and as long as you do the work and put effort and get to class on time, you'll pass. Used many videos too. Final exam was SUPER easy because of her reviews. Would definitely take again!!!!
While she is a tough grader, she's very laid back and only gives about one assignment a week. Answers are all in the book for the assignment though. we didn't take many test in our class which was also nice. It gave us the ability to learn without being stressed about failing tests.
FIRST OFF, Shes a gorgoues teacher so it's not hard to look at her and pay attention. She gives great lectures, Oh for me to say that thats nuts because i hate listening to lectures and reading. Shes one of the Grammar NZ's. So expect points off for that. her test and quizes are what she says they are. 1 of 2 of the Best professors i have ever had.
Reading the reviews here you would be a bit hesitant. However, I took the chance and I'm horrible at history (D for my first class) and I'm not a huge fan of writing. But she made it extremely easy. If you have any questions she answers in a timely manner. If you are slacking she gives opportunities to catch up. Overall AMAZING!
Have taken her 3 times very good at history
Amazing professor. I wish I could have her again. She's an easy A if you show up, listen and attempt to read the assigned readings. Her lectures are awesome and she's not out to trick you. Straight forward and clear!
Although she grades tough she will walk you thru how to get an A she analyzes heavy but helps so much and she lectures and explains things in way of understanding. She is a very awesome and intelligent professor. She is easy to contact as well.
No matter how much time you spend on an assignment, nothing is ever good enough for her
Professor Carrigan is a great professor. She explains how and why things happened in history. Her class was clear and straightforward. She does provide a lot of comments on written work, but then gives opportunities to improve.
Out of all the classes I've taken, she has to be my favorite professor. She is so sweet, answers questions very clearly, and really cares about all of her students. She wants to make sure you understand the material and is willing to help. She makes the class enjoyable because she's super passionate about what she's teaching! 10/10 recommend
Definitely a tough grade so beware of that. She is really nice but you have to work for the grade. Definitely no slacking off. She loves to make critiques. The online part can be a lot as well. So just beware of that. Take the class if its not blended. If it is blended, try another professor.
Classes were interesting because she breaks up lectures with videos, class discussions, and group work. There are short reading quizzes, short writing assignments, a short essay, and two exams. If you end up having trouble with any of it, see her during office hours and she will help.
Amazing Professor! Absolutely enjoyed her lectures, very minimal work, shes very caring and helpful. She is extremely passionate and will answer any questions you have! If you have any questions or concerns she gets back to you right away.I would definitely recommend taking her for any and every History class available!
Dr. Carrigan is actually one of my favorite professors. Number one tip for her class: PARTICIPATE! She loves when you answer questions or just talk about the subject in general. Almost no homework, just studying. Frequent group work, which makes class fun. She responds to emails quickly, even at 1am (lol, one time). Taking her for the second time.
I was lost throughout the class. She doesn't know what she's talking about and she is really liberal on all issues. Here classes are boring too. She forces you to watch liberal videos. She makes you read and learn material that has nothing to do with history. Didn't learn a thing.
Dr Carrigan is a great teacher. I had her for American history and the class was very easy (btw I am terrible at history). She speaks about history the way it happened and didnt water down things, which I really appreciated. She is very nice and kind. 100% recommend that you take her.
She's an excellent teacher, took her during the summer and she makes the class easy to follow and the work is easy as long as you go to class. Will definitely be taking her again for AMH 2020
Took Dr. Carrigan for Fall 2019. Attendance is very important to her!! As a professor she was very laid back and did not assign much work at all. After lecturing we did a lot of group work in her class. Majority of the grade comes from online quizzes, (theyre easy if you read the sections) attendance, 1 essay, and the final. Taking her for AMH2020
Nice teacher, hates random talking, helps understand the resources well.
Easy A if you put in the time. Essay was graded a bit hard. Two pages but wanted info that would have been four pages, and took points off because of it. Besides that, a fair and easy to reach professor. Still got an A.
Best teacher I have taken in a while! Do all the reading and study guides and the rest will come to you! She provides all the information you need, if you do not understand something just let her know and she is happy to help in any way she can!
Dr. Carrigan is a great teacher. The work was straight forward and organized even through the transition from in class to online because of the pandemic. If you need help she is always available. History is not my best subject but she made it easy. Would definitely recommend. Just read the chapters, takes notes and do the work.
Professor Carrigan is one of the best professors Ive had during my college career. She makes sure that we have to read and evaluate the passage to best complete her work though. Its not a problem if you set aside time to do her work. 10/10 would recommend, if youre struggling in any way, reach out shes caring and will do what she can
She is a horrible teacher grades to hard on papers for God sake this is a history class.
Dr. Carrigan is a great history professor! I took her online during an express semester and its kinda a lot but once you get a rhythm its not bad. She understands when you have problems and if you email her to proofread/give feedback on the essay/written assignments/study aids shes more than willing to help! Definitely recommend!
Professor Carrigan is a tough grader, but you can tell she does this because she truly cares and wants you to learn. I took her online during the spring semester, and it was usually 1-2 assignments/quiz a week so the workload was very manageable. She gives the best feedback and is really a sweetheart!
Didn't get to interact with her much, was a decent professor, nothing stands out, but she wasn't horrible. She did grade pretty hard on small 10 point assignments. Quizzes are easy if you look at lesson & videos. Instructions for GELO paper weren't crystal clear.
She is a dedicated professor who definitely has a passion for history. Does good lectures and makes the YouTube videos herself which is cool. Gives you feed back on your work and grades pretty fair, she appreciates participation. But she makes it obvious what side of politics shes on and that is unacceptable. Brings up covid every single class.
I took a hybrid class and most of the work was in class. Talk during class and sometimes she won't make you do the reflections as long as you participate. All reading was online and didn't take too long. A few quizzes but do the reading and it's easy. In-class reflections can be difficult, she wants you to think but will help if needed. She's nice.
I took AMH 2020 online. I never really interacted with her, but she did give solid feedback on all of the assignments. We use an online textbook which can be annoying, but the material was easy to understand. The tests and quizzes are not difficult, and you have plenty of time to write the essay at the end of the course. All in all, good choice.
AMH2020- She makes this class relatively stress free. The quizzes are short and not difficult if you read the online text (use the study guides she gives you). The workload of the class is more than fair, usually one assignment or quiz due/week. Youre allowed to submit a draft of your essay for feedback before grading- take advantage of that!
dr. carrigan is a wonderful professor. the grade is made up of assignments, discussion boards, and quizzes (and the GELO), all of which are fairly easy. the assignments were the most time-consuming, on average it has taken me 30 minutes to a little more than an hour. homework due every week + dr. carrigan responds with feedback if needed
AMH210 was the class that changed my work ethic completely as I got a poor grade on my first assignment (which was my fault for not putting in effort). Dr. Carrigan told me exactly what I did wrong and how I can fix my mistakes. I took her advice and went on to get A's on all assignments! She responded immediately to emails and gave great feedback.
Unclear on instructions of what she wanted to turn in...
Carrigan is so helpful. I like that she posted reminders on Blackboard. The homework and in-class materials are also available on Blackboard. Very quick at responding to emails.
Very simple and easy class. Open note quizzes and only two test grades that are writing assignments.
Took her for 2010 & 2020. She is def one of the best professors at IRSC. Very interesting, caring, and knowledgeable. She does make you work, but she is fair and understanding. Highly recommend!
Carrigan explains everything very well. Class participation will keep you from having to turn in anything after class. Quizzes are simple. Just have to do some reading. Tests questions can be worded in a way where 2 answers could work, I had a hard time with that. She does grade hard on the source analysis, but allows you to improve your score.
I took a hybrid class and the source analysis we had to do she graded strict on. She is very straight forward about what she expects. Show up on time and turn in assignments on time, and she will work with you. If you turn in assignments late or show up late and dont pay attention she will not help you at all. Firm but fair!
Rude and judgmental through email and would constantly degrade me in the comment section of perusal assignments to where all my peers could see. Failed me on an assignment about how drinking affected America because i mentioned prohibition to which she seen as "irrelevant to topic." Failed you if you used outside sources but would then send sources
The grading scale was very odd. Three-point assignments make up for 30% of the entire course grade which makes no sense in my opinion. Very critical grader.
I usually struggle with American History, but Dr. Carrigan's course was very easy for me. You have a quiz due every week that she provides a study aid for and would usually give a perfect score on Perusall discussions even if you made a mistake or two. The toughest thing is the GELO assignment but even that was not too difficult.
The course is organized and includes videos along with the readings. I had a question about an assignment, met with her about an assignment and she provided feedback before I had to turn it in. Helpful.
Professor Carrigan runs a fairly straightforward class. Expect open-note quizzes, writing assignments, and helpful feedback. Using unstuck ai alongside the online textbook can make study prep a breeze. Overall, a manageable course if you stay on top of the work.
