adorable-- very helpful, very sweet and you can tell she loves her job.
Makes the class really interesting and enjoyable. She is the best Biology Professor at GSU.
I took Cathorn for both Environmental Bio and General and I made an A in both. She's a great prof. who really loves her job, you can tell. Her tests aren't out to flunk you and she tries to help whenever she can!
I have really enjoyed her class! Take her class! She is wonderful. You won't find a better Biology professor at GSU trust me!
Had her for both environmental and regular biology. I do not like science at all, but got B's in both. You need to attend class because of attendance checks, but she doesn't bore you too bad at all. Offers few chances for extra credit, but webct quizzes and notes are identical to tests.
She is very enthusiastic about hey job and keeps you awake. Take her!

I hate Science, but I enjoyed her class. She is a comedian!! I got a B in her class!
ALRIGHTY!!!! i hate her voice, she is really loud but shes an ok teacher
Dr Cawthorne is really nice and funny. Her tests are no joke...word for word the online quizes. Do the quizes theres no way you can't get and A on the tests. She does randomely take attendence though.
one of my favorite teachers. funny, nice, energetic...webct quizzes are EXACT questions on tests..and id have to agree, there is something somewhat attractive about her.
She is an awesome professor. She is really into what she is teaching so you wont lose interest too bad. The tests are verbatim the webct quizzes. Study those and you'll do fine. Great teacher....and kinda hot.
group assignments out of class. a few individual homeworks. quizzes online for each chapter. notes are long and boring and pretty pointless. i study the online quizzes- recognize answers right away. read mean genes alot and has inclass group questions about the chapter reading, so go to class these days. shes friendly and remembers names
She's a great teacher, and she's nice & pretty lenient with things. She made the class/material interesting & easy to understand. There are simple quizzes & assignments online on webct. A lot of the questions on tests are exactly the same as the ones on the quizzes. The class was pretty easy but I still learned stuff.
shes very easy and acts like she enjoys teaching! easy online quizes that are teh exact questions on the tests and online assignments she never counts late! she takes random attendance checks and she will remember your name out of a 200 person lecture class! she has been my favorite teacher so far!
If you want a class catered to the vast number of football players in the class, her is your teacher. This was most certainly one of the most annoying, frustrating immature classes ever. Dr. Cawthorne made it worse, always feeding the fire. She was also constantly late for class (INCLUDING TESTS!). AND SHE HAS THE MOST ANNOYING VOICE EVER!!
Loved her! if you study the practice tests on webct you will make an A. The questions on the test come straight from them.
i liked her.sometimes class can be a havoc and loud but overall i learned a good bit and didnt put too much time into the course. study the online quizzes though, itll help alot!
Loved her! Study online quizzes, read the chapters, study notes, and go to review sessions. She tells you everything you need to know for tests.
Best Biology teacher in the whole department. Awesome.
great professor. she is very clear and straightforward with her lectures and notes. there are in-class assignments to attendance is a must. The tests are straight from the notes and online quizzes. I highly recommend!
Dr.Cawthorn is one of those teachers that grabs your attention in class. DO the study guides and attend the online chat study sessions to ask questions about what is going to be on the test. She may not say it but, READ THE CHAPTERS.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!! I HATE BIOLOGY DROP THE CLASS TWICE BEFORE MS.Cawthorne AND CAME OUT WITH A B
great teacher, very good with names and very nice. keeps class interesting
Great teacher, second time having her and I will take her again if I can. Go to class!! Will give quizes for attendance.
Attendance basically got me a B.I failed the first 2 test & still got a B. Do the quizes on WebCT.U have to do a service project for half of your final exam grade, but it is very easy. She is willing to help, as long as she knows your name/face & she is very good at remembering both. TAKE HER!!!
She is a great teacher, she has good control over a large class. I would take her again, if I had too.
Awesome teacher, would reccomend to anyone. Lots of in class activity and very understanding. I don't even like Biology and I took her again as an elective.
I loved prof. Cawtorn. She really cares about her students.
Loved Dr.Cawthorn's class. I didn't even like biology but after taking her class im more interested. Remember's names and faces and she loves teaching. You can tell. A+ Recommendation
Good Teacher.
Good Teacher. Sjune0bluesimba
She seems to be knowledgeable about the subject that she teaches. She spent too much time on discussion and group activities. Code: X, May, 3, Blue, Pebbles
She seems to be knowledgeable about the subject that she teaches. She spent too much time on discussion and group activities.
She is a great teacher! I missed a test once and she worked with me in making it up. I am rarely awake enough to learn at 9 in the morning but her energy is contagious!
Great teacher!! Very few outside assignments, attendance will get you bonus points, many small group activities, Voted Professor of the Year last year with good reason. Can't go wrong with this class.
extremely nice! had her the second part of the semester and my grade went up! I dont like science but she made it fun. Easy to talk to and understand. I would definitely recommend her!
Amazing!! I hate science but she made it so interesting for a 9 am class. LOVED HER!
Great professor! I recommend her to anyone. Attendance is not mandatory. She is alot of fun. Test are strictly over notes and books. There is no reason for anyone to not pass the class. She loves giving EC points.
Very great Biology teacher. Just attend class and listen and you will get a "A". She loves giving out EC but you have to be in class to get it. I definitely recommend her for any Biology class. She loves group work.
Prof. Cawthorne was all around a good teacher. She can get a little flustered at times. Gives lots of easy assignments to help build your grade up, and lots of bonus opportunities. This includes attendance, she doesn't take everyday but you get extra credit if you are there which really helps your grade as well.
Mrs. Cawthorne was very helpful and tried to give you as many opportunities as possible to finish work. Her class wasn't mandatory but she did give out in-class assignments and extra credit during class time, so be sure to attend!
Dr. Cawthorn is a great teacher. Attendence isn't mandatory, but she does a lot of in class assignments; it's beneficial to go to class. All quizzes were online and you could take them up to 5 times with the average being your grade. Tests had a lot of questions from the quizzes. The final was made up of previous test and quiz questions.
Great teacher. She is helpful and gives extra credit in class. Class isn't mandatory but you should go. A lot of questions on the tests literally come straight from the quizzes. so review online quizzes before tests. Got an A in the class without TOO MUCH studying/work.
Enviro.bio Cawthorn was great! Show up to class because the lectures closely resemble exams! Also have to read the book if you want A's on the exams. She also helps students out with extra credit assignments. Take her! I had her for Spring 2012.
I had her for General Bio- she was great! I was actually interested in going to class sometimes because she's very genuine and interacts with the students a lot. She is always so helpful and responds to emails quickly. Random attendance is taken & they're a lot of easy quizzes and homework online. The tests are pretty hard, but definitely take her!
I took her for mammalogy and animal behavior. Fabulous teacher! She is very easy going and if you ever have any questions she is always happy to help. She responds to her emails quickly. She is probably the best professor I've ever had! Love her!
She is all about her students! She tries her best to make class interesting and she even makes a concerted effort to get to know her students by name (in a lecture class). I made a B, but only because I didn't study at all for the tests. If you take notes and put in a decent amount of effort, you should make an A!
She is very nice and easy going. I would definitely recommend her. Just make sure you do the homework online because it will really bump up your grade!
I absolutely love this class.
Professor Cawthorn was such a helpful and concerned teacher. She offers many extra credit opportunities. Is is really a great teacher that you can learn a lot from. At the end of the semester i ended with a 108 in the class. If you do you work and pass the test you will be fine.
Dr. Cawthorn was a great professor to have for FYE. She is very open to helping any problem you may have. She responds to emails relatively quick and goes out of her way to give any extra help. She moved several of our due dates for assignments. There is a mandatory novel you have to read but she did not get upset when half the class did not read.
She's so nice and helpful. I liked her class. She's really passionate about her subject which is good to have in a professor. Great teaching abilities and creative, interesting teaching style. She's very passionate about helping her students to learn and grow. I felt like I was in high school again.
She was okay.I studied hard for the tests and got low Bs and a high C with her curving. I manged to get 94 on the final because she used the same questions from old tests and quizzes. She seemed to be all over the place at times. She does remember names in a large class. Gives extra credit for attendance and other things at the end of the semester.
Great class! She was very helpful. Seemed to know her stuff and made sure you knew it too. There were only a few in class activities. A few quizzes for each section covered. 3 tests that came straight from quizzes and notes. The final was questions straight from old tests posted online. Highly recommend this class! lots of extra credit too!
Dr. Cawthorn is awesome! I would definitely take this class. There are only three tests plus the final. They are easy and most of the time curved. There's 1 service project, but it's really easy. She keeps class interesting. Attendance is not mandatory, but you should go if you want an A. She gives tons of extra credit. If possible, take her!
Awesome professor! Cares about her students. Gives a lot of extra credit and in-class group work. Her test can be tricky but the extra credit and easy assignments make up for it. Take her! Making an A is not hard. Just go to class.
Great professor!! Really cares about her students. Tests are a little tricky at times, but most of the class is curved. Lots of extra credit! Drops lowest grades at end of the year.
Amazing teacher!I enjoyed going to her class every day! She's funny and talks to you instead of lecturing to you. Time flew by in class and I was always sad when it was over. I highly recommend taking her class! Study, attend class, and you'll do great!
Very nice teacher takes the time to get to know her students. Class is very laid back, test are kinda tricky if you do not pay attention, study and read. Drops so many grades its crazy. TAKE HER!!
Cawthorn is an all around great intro to Biology professor. If you are taking her as a freshman or just to get your core out of the way, you could not do better. She is passionate about her subject and everything that she teaches for the most part is clear, concise, and easy to understand. Take her if you want a B or an A and want to learn as well.
Amazing professor, always helpful she breaks down everything so that every student understands.
Amazing professor, always helpful she breaks down everything so that every student understands. She is also hilarious, class is very interesting.
Lectures are great and she really tries to get to know her students. She would do a lot of class participation with clicker questions and demonstrations. The tests are tough but if you study you should be fine. She is willing to curve and gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. She doesn't have her notes online so go to class.
She was really nice and seemed like she actually cared about all of us. She also left all of the online assignments open all year and we really did nothing.
Nice professor but class wasn't easy. Tests were a mix of lecturesbook and it was hard to know what to study. Lots of online work. Cumulative final. Lectures jumped around different topics and were unorganized.
Dr. Cawthorn is an easy A if you go to class, participate in the class discussions, and read the book. She does ask you to take notes while reading as homework but that's super easy and other than the online modules every FYE class has to do that's the only homework we ever had. Dr. Cawthorn is a very interesting person if you get to know her!
I got an A. Tests aren't that hard. I think I made low A's and high b's. The final is super easy. Online HW is really easy. Show up and take notes and you should get an A. She's pretty cool!
Definitely one of my favorite classes. I looked forward to going because she was super laidback and completely open to discussion and feedback from students. Take this professor for FYE if you get the chance! I will miss this class!
Easy class. Very few assignments, but, attendance was mandatory and was part of grade. After the hectic 1st semester FYE class, this one was a relief!
Fantastic teacher, and whenever you needed help she was there for you. She does clicker questions, but a lot of times she wants to know your opinion on something. The clicker questions still count as a grade, so I would go to class! The assignments online weren't that bad, and the class was pretty laid back.
Cawthorn is honestly really great. She is very willing to help you (go to her office hours!) Lots of (online thankfully) quizzes but you can take them 3 times, homework is given occasionaly, but it's super painless. Tests are pretty manageable, I always made at least a B and she does give bonus points on tests sometimes. Definitely take her!!
I took her Food And Sustainability FYE class. I'm very into food and loved this class. The class and this professor is very chill. She stays off topic A Lot. Almost every day. The assignments are easy. The final was just writing about what would you change about your eating habits. If you miss five days, she'll drop your grade down a letter grade.
I am usually not great at science however I took her for General Biology and got an A in the class. She's a great teacher, very clear on what she wants from her students, and extremely helpful. I love her so much I'm taking her again this semester. I definitely recommend taking her!!!
Dr. Cawthorn is a very easy professor. Just do the online work, show up to class and study, and getting an A shouldn't be hard. She does do in-class iClicker questions, though, as "attendance" and for a grade, and if you miss enough of them it can seriously hurt your grade. Her tests aren't that hard, and I would definitely take her again.
I honestly wouldn't take Dr. Cawthorn again. She is a nice woman and a pretty good teacher, but her class was unusally difficult. Her notes are confusing and her lectures are pretty boring. Her tests don't usually reflect what was done in class at all. You have to pick apart the book to know the answers. She does give alot of extra credit though.
Sometimes it seems like she doesn't really know much about what she's talking about. But once she gets going she does really well at holding your interest. She does iClicker questions almost every class. I didn't read much of the book and ended with an A. The tests can be difficult, but they aren't terrible. Overall, I liked her.
She offers so much extra credit. Use connect to study for tests and you will be fine. GO TO CLASS. She does clicker questions almost every day, and sometimes those go for attendance and other times they are extra credit. I got Bs and Cs on the test but because I did all the homework and went to class I got an A in the class. Highly recommend.
She was a great teacher! Tests were challenging but they were concept-based, not just definitions. Clicker points can get you decent extra credit, and doing the homework, reading, and looking over lecture notes can help you prepare! I was undeclared when I took this class, and she made me decide to declare biology. She makes it pretty interesting
Dr. Cawthorne is great. She keeps class interesting however her tests can be difficult
Professor Cawthorne is a pretty good teacher. Her tests aren't too difficult and she gives you previous tests. I'd suggest studying the post quizzes and the previous test. She gives extra credit. I respected her as a professor. You should go to class to get the notes and in-class assignments.
Lectures were confusing and her power points were not very clear. Her tests came from her power points so that was difficult. Gave extra credit which was helpful so I was able to pass her class. Very nice professor but her teaching method was unusual and unhelpful.
I loved her for my fye. There were only a few easy assignments. You attendance counts for a grade but it shouldn't be that hard to show up once a week (especially since she counts you present even if you walk in with 5 minutes left). I got an easy A and learned some cool stuff too. It's definitely what an fye is supposed to be like.
Nice teacher but her lectures are very confusing and the way she prepares powerpoints is hard to take notes from. Does a ton of clicker questions and class is not mandatory but to get credit for clicker questions highly recommend attending every class. Tests are hard and gave one extra credit project and has a lot of group discussions in class.
I had Professor Cawthorn for FYE Food and Sustainability and enjoyed the class. We read out of one book and did chapter reviews for homework. The material is easy to do, just do your work on time and go to class because attendance is a part of the grade.
Professor Cawthorn is probably the most understanding and caring professor I have ever had. She gives out extra credit, lets you turn assignments in late, and is willing to help you whenever you need you need it. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you do have clicker questions every class or a group assignment. If you put in effort, you will do well.
Theres homework assignments every week, but she drops lowest grades and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Shes very nice and really cares for her students, so if there are ever any issues or a missed assignment go see her in her office hours and she will help you out. Im awful in science but I made an A.
BY FAR best Professor I have had at Georgia Southern. She has so many cool anecdotes and a great sense of humor. If you don't have a passion for Evo&Eco, you will after you take her class. Tons of outside work, including extra credit and homework reflects classwork very well. Wants to know about who you are and what interests you. Awesome!!
She actually cares about her students, gets to know all their names in a 50+ class. She is passionate and gives good lectures. The tests are a little hard, many questions are pulled from mastering but some expect you to have knowledge on some animal that wasn't used as an example in class, expecting you to have background knowledge on it.
I had Professor Cawthorn for my honors FYE, and she was decent. She just needs to get herself organized because I'm pretty sure that if the peer leader wasn't there, she probably would've canceled every class session. There's not much to the class, just take notes over the chapter and be active in discussions or she'll call you out.
One of my favorite professors. She cares and remembers all of her students. She's passionate about the environment and loves to share her own stories of her travels. She's always trying her best. Very kind. The tests are a little hard but with studying and good notes, you'll pass. Attendance not required but daily clicker questions are graded.
She is such a good professor, very caring , she pushes due dates back sometimes because she knows we go through a lot, she gives a lot of opportunities and chances, she remembers her students , and i dont even want to leave her class but I have to .. her tests are a little hard tho so study details.
I hate science and only took this for a core requirement, but she made it so easy for me. As long as you show up for class and study you will get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does clicker questions so if you want extra points come to class. In a class of 150 people she knew everyone's name and made sure everyone knew the material
Definitely one of my favorite professors at southern. Shes very funny & caring. Her tests are a little tricky, but if she makes a mistake or the class does bad as a whole, she will allow you to get points back. She is also helpful if you dont understand something during a test. Definitely recommend & hope I have her again before I graduate.
Dr. Cawthorne is an outstanding professor. I am in no way great at biology, but her class was very interesting and made the course much more enjoyable than I would have thought.
Dr. Cawthorn is a great FYE professor. She cares about her students and is very fair to all backgrounds of people.
Dr. Cawthorn loves teaching and made Env. Bio fun to learn. If you sit in the first 10ish rows she will remember your name and she usually grades on a curve. Attendance isnt mandatory but if you show up, participate in class, and do the homework, it is a easy high A. To summarize: she is the best professor I have had in college hands down.
Very long and boring lectures. Her PowerPoints are difficult to take notes on. Her tests are hard but as long as you study you can pass. She can be funny at times and takes time to learn some students names.
Dr. Cawthorn is a good professor. She cares about her students and will work with you. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are in class clicker questions on random days. They go towards your grade.
If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Cawthorn for Mammalogy please do. She is amazing. She genuinely cares about all her student and will do whatever she can to help you succeed. She is always in her office so she's super accessible outside of class. There is a lot of independent learning but if you come to class and study hard, you'll be fine.
She's super funny and loves what she does. Answers a lot of questions in lecture & she's super accessible. Gotta study for the tests but they're still pretty straight forward. There's a good bit of homework but nothing you can't manage. She manages to remember names even in big lecture classes & she really wants to help students learn. I recommend
Really good Professor and super nice. lectures are a bit heavy. Course work isn't super hard, just gives you a lot of work all at once which can be overwhelming. 3 test plus a final. as long as you pay attention you wont fail this course. Overall a really good class and prof.
Such a good professor. Fair amount of homework, but it’s very easy. Lectures aren’t too bad either. Tests aren’t too hard, just make sure you study. I’d take her again if I had the chance
Overall really good. Lecture heavy class but her lectures her pretty interesting. Course work is mostly online and is not super bad but sometimes she gives you a lot all at once so it can be tedious. Would definitely recommend.
Professor Cawthorne was a great help this past semester! She is available for office hours pretty much anytime and if her hours do not fit your schedule she is very understandable and will meet outside of office hours. Sit up front because she will get to know you and your name and will help you out! I loved taking her!
Amazing
I do not like science, but she made this class a lot less painful than I thought it would be. I do wish that she was more clear on what would be on each tests + not cram so much in the last week. No matter what she tells you, her folio organization is not ideal lol! She was really good, I would recommend for non-science majors. Sit in front!!
Dr. Cawthorn is a very genuine person, however, her exams do not reflect what we learned in the class at all (no matter how hard I studied). This class is not even in my major and there was more homework in this class than in the classes actually required for my degree. She does offer extra credit, and she uses I-clicker as well for a grade.
Cares about her students! Makes the lectures very engaging, and make sure you attend class because things she discusses are on the exams.
This professor is great, very easy class, she helps out when you need and opens assignments when you forget to take them. He lectures are great and i always had fun. She makes her lectures very interesting just make sure to study for the exams
Lectures were fun (I played dress to impress the whole time)
Ms. Cawthorn was funny and interesting during lectures. Do your achieve homework and quizzes, its easy. Attendance is not mandatory, but clickers are a good amount of your grade. Tests are hard, so make sure you study. She is willing to reopen homework and quizzes most of the time which is helpful.
She's super easy to communicate with and works with you. She explains what's going to be on her tests and gives extra credit opportunities.
Professor Cawthorn is by far the best professor I've taken. She truly cares about what she is teaching and is more than willing to help you out when able. I would certainly take her again.
She was very lecture heavy but sometimes it felt like a waste of time when she would spend a good chunk of the lecture teaching us about how to study or just general info we didn't need to focus on. Her folio was pretty disorganized, and it felt hard to find her assignments and the due dates. She was very energetic though, there's definitely worse.
She's very energetic, though her voice did become slightly annoying as the semester progressed, so I tended to skip lectures because she would go on and on about things unrelated to the course, there are definitely worse professors you could take, but I won't be taking her for my next biology course.
Very sweet and caring lady, and she gives extra credit if asked, as well as curves on tests. Overall amazing teacher, and I have learned a bunch from her class.
Positives: she is very good about making difficult topics easy to under and she made good efforts to connect with her students during class. Negatives: her folio makes it very easy to miss assignments if you are not careful. Her tests are also worth and lot of your grade and sometimes can be difficult. She also sometimes gets off topic and rambles.
I really liked her. She does move fast, so sometimes you won't get all of your notes, and she does not put them on the folio. If you do nto attend class, you will not pass. She is very IClicker dependent, and a majority of the exam questions come from IClicker. Overall, she was a good professor.
Lectures were just slide shows and notes with no template, which made following along tricky. Her voice got annoying as the semester went on, but she's clearly passionate about what she teaches. Stay organized and take your own notes to keep up.
She really tried to get to know students in class. Felt kind of rejected because I just got the stink eye tho, idk what I did. She was nice anyways and really cares about the subject. Got a bit off topic but it always related to biology and it was interesting. Make sure to check homework weekly and do it! It's pretty easy. Good class.
Professor Cawthorn was super chill and her snarky personality made class really fun. She uses an online platform that you have to do homework and quizzes off of and everything is averaged out by attendance points and three exams so show up to class, she gives out the answers to past test for review which end up being on later exams.
