Great instructor!

homework is easy, but the tests are not like homework. she also wants specific problems in her office. She tries to help but not verry helpful.

Not very helpful. Gives study guide for final exam and exam looks nothing like the examples given to study from. Same for tests. Assigns homework and then the problems on the test were never part of the homework.
Lacking the skills that one should have if they are going to affect a persons life both academicaly and personally. But she did have the ability to drive off her students and created haterd toward the teacher.
She is not very clear in her lecture and when the semester is over 1/4 of the class is remaining.
She moves quickly and doesn't go over all the steps. Quizzes are hard and tests always have questions that are beyond what was required in the homework. Expect to put in alot of work and to learn on your own.
Purty hard compared to some other professors. But overall its worth it if you plan to take harder classes later.
worst math teacher ever....doesnt explain and go over****. Also gives tests with material not covered. Vaugley explains how to do the homework lessons in class, but when it comes to the lessons, its like a wild goose chase....worst ever
Michelle is very personable and is always willing to help you if you have trouble understanding a concept. She will meet w/ you away from class so as to make sure you can grasp the concepts. She is a bit tough; however, she is fair and she does give opportunity to improve your grade.
She is not the easiest of teachers, but honestly she does go over problems step by step and explains things clearly. Yeah, her class is challenging and there is quite a bit of homework, but in the end you will have learned a lot! I liked her as a teacher, and even though in the begining of the semester you might be intimidated, stick it out!
I have no idea why any negative feedback is given to this instructor. She was clear, very patient, flexible, and did all possible to ensure her students were all on the same level before moving on. I believe she has a low tolerance for slackers... then again don't we all.
great teacher! She is awesome! I love her teaching style, because it keeps you interested!
Aced this class and that's because I paid attention, prof. chiang is a great teacher and explained things very clearly, I also sat near the front of the class, so if you had negative comments, thats probably your problem, If you pay attention, Chiang makes it really easy for you to understand math. Awesome teacher overall
Michelle is an excellent math teacher. Not only is she more than willing to help you with any of your problems, but the class is really easy and she is a fantastic teacher. I have never been good at math but with her help I have come a long way and really excelled at math.Id recommend her to anyone.
Easy communication via email. Tests and homework assigned is daunting but well balanced for the class. Would be glad to take another course with her.
not good at all...she thinks she know but doesn't know how to teach!!!! DO TAKE HER!!!HARD!
Very good teacher and will help you outside of class! However, her homework assignments are incredibly long for the low amount it affects your grade. If you work hard and pay attention you'll pass this easily.
Ms Chiang explains concepts well and is very knowledgeable. Her exams and quizzes are never 'tricky,' though in order to do well on them you must do the work & attend class most of the time. Homework has to be complete for full credit- she will check. She's great with giving extra help so don't be afraid to ask!
Very hard, does not help to explain much, seems to think everything is a review.
She is a math natzy, but a really good teacher. She follows a definite flow and is easy to learn from, but a HUGE sticklar on points, there are no exceptions with her.
Professor Chiang-Yamada is the best math teacher I've ever had. There is a lot of homework but it really helps you prepare for the tests. She's also very organized and gives you a list of all the homework and when it's due so there is never a surprize. She also gives really easy pop quizes after a lecture and lets you use your notes. Shes the best!
she is a really good teacher. i would choose her again if i had the chance. she is very understanding as long as you tell her what is going on.
I love this teacher!! She is very patient and will go over things that you do not understand. Pay attention in class and do the homework and you will succeed with the grade you want! I recommend her...as long as your not a slacker
What an awesome teacher. She takes her time to make things clear. I hated math, now its not soooo bad.
SHE IS A WONDERFUL TEACHER AND ABSOLUTELY LOVES HER JOB! SHE DOES EACH PROBLEM STEP BY STEP AND MAKES GAMES OUT OF THE PROBLEMS IN ORDER TO EARN EXTRA CREDIT FOR TESTS! SHE IS VERY HELPFUL AND AS LONG AS YOU PAY ATTENTION AND DO THE HOMEWORK IT IS AN EASY A!
Chiang-Yamada is an awesome teacher! I have always disliked math as I have a tuff grasping it but her class was great. She is very thorough and clear during instruction and doesn't rush her students. I would definetly recommend taking her!
I do not suggest you take this teacher. She is mono-toned and has no interest in the subject. She isn't a very nice person either.
This teacher was absolutely WONDERFUL! She cares very much about her students, is extrememly helpful, and will go above and beyond to help you succeed in her class. I highly recommend her. She's seriously one of the best! Super nice and super easy. Just do your work is all she ask. If I ever had to take another math class, it would be with her!
Good Teacher and really nice. Some things on test we dont go over at all. But helpful and never talks down on students
Michelle Chiang-Yamada is a great Professor. She is serious about her work but she is fair about her grading. If you do the homework and listen in class you will not find any suprises on the test. It doesn't hurt that she is easy on the eyes either. I'm a fan.
Hybrid class great teach willing to help! Taking my next Math class with her. Starts next week.
shes a great teacher i wish i could take her for every math im required to take she helps you see math a whole lot simpler and actually enjoy it (well at least not run for the hills screaming) she always does super simple extra credit too.. best math professor i had yet!
Great Teacher. Took her online class and the in person exams are really easy.
This is a good teacher; however, if you struggle with math like I did, I suggest not taking her. She expect you to know how to get from A-Z without showing all steps. I learn by looking at the entire problem written out. She also gives a lot of home which is barely worth any points. She is a great individual though.
Such a tough grader and assigns a TON of homework! Seriously, lotsssss of homework and a quiz almost every single class. Explains things OK but if you miss one class you'll be really behind. She explains things well and gives lots of examples, but doing it over again I would take a different teacher. SO MUCH HOMEWORK and QUIZZES ALL THE TIME!!!
Never take a class with this professor, if you care about your GPA
She is extremely sweet and always does her best to be available for help. If you aren't a natural at math then this class may be challenging because it's fast paced and there's a lot of homework. But if you like routine you'll appreciate her teaching style. Overall, it's tough but definitely manageable if you show up, and she is super nice.
No handouts, rules and formatting must be remembered thru class notes. Quizzes and exams are given cold turkey with no warm up before starting to refresh the memory. Tough with grades, 3 A’s at < 92%, 6 B’s, 13 C’s, 9 D’s and 4 F’s, class average 73%. She could improve with the understanding that not everyone solves problems as she would.
Only 3 people in my class got an A, 6 got B’s… not such a great teacher if most students are only average or below average. She should try to teach the material rather that expect people to memorize which direction a parabola goes. Watch out for tricks on the tests! I did not have enough time to take the final which was very hard.
Do NOT take this class!! She is a terrible teacher. She will teach you two ways to do a problems and if you don't do it the one way she wants it will be wrong. All off the work in her class is worth barley any points. She also always makes errors in class. If you have her get a tutor fast!!!
Terrible teacher
Can't believe this professor is getting horrible reps! I admit her class has lots of homework, but she was always available to help. I used her office hours more than any of my classmates and received an A. I know the work seems daunting but this class prepared me for MATH 120. Professor is always courteous and willing to help.
Super amazing teacher, She is challenging, alot of HW and tests/quizes can be difficult, If you show up to class and do HW you will have no problem with her. Teaches multiple ways to do a problem so every student has a chance to adapt
SO much homework. But she has a calm and clear presence that is useful and really encourages to meet with her one on one if you need it.
Great class lectures. She is very kind, helpful and supportive and seems to really care about her students and helping them develop a love of math. You will need to show up for every class and be ready to put in the work, but if you're prepared to do that she will help you every step of the way.
Second time taking trig and I wish I passed it the first time. Her timing on when she introduces new concept makes them very confusing. Shes jumps around too much and rarely focuses on one topic for more than one class thinking the class imidiately understand its. It has made it difficult even already having some trig experience. Avoid this prof!
If you're not good at math I wouldn't recommended taking this teacher. Shes super sweet and she has office hours that you can attend if you need extra help, but her lectures are hard to keep up with, most of the material she expects you to already know from math 100 and has weekly quizzes and a good amount of homework due.
I love how kind and helpful this woman is, and the fact she would sometimes end class early for those who couldn't make it to office hours was wonderful. But she moves quickly through material and expects you to be well established in concepts from Math 100. There was a lot of homework and quizzes but if you're diligent you'll pass.
Just forget about it and change classes she doesn't know what she is actually doing
Not understandable of students wishes. Good professor, personally I'll avoid classes with her.
Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely hate math. I've just never been good at it. But Professor Chiang-Yamada helped change that. She assigns a lot of homework, but you get a good amount of freedom on how you go about it so long as you get it in on time. Her assignments really help develop a deep & true understanding, and she's very kind.
This professor is so caring, respected and she helps students so much.
She tries to relate the material in easy-to-understand way. She is very easy to contact and willing to do a lot to help students succeed. The grades can be curved, and she owns up to making mistakes to show that it can happen at any level. A very caring understanding and chill teacher would Definity take again. Very homework heavy.
She is a very nice and caring professor. She uses ALEKS for hw, quizzes, and the first part of the exams. I personally hated the program. She has quite a bit of hw which is expected to be worked on every day, and if not, it is a lot to cram. Pacing yourself in all aspects of the class was extremely important. Put in the effort and you will pass.
If you don't like hw do not take this class. If you procrastinate don't take this class. She gives a LOT of homework, some from textbook but then you will also be doing the same type of homework a few days later online through Aleks, sometimes it's helpful but usually just a pain The good part is she gave a lot of office hours if you have questions
Very kind and understanding Professor. Does everything possible to help students do well in her class. Explains the material very well and will go over it with you again if you need extra help. Exams were very similar to in-class problems and morning check in problems. Come to class prepared because morning check ins use problems from HIPSTR's.
she knows the material but IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER. she only assignes youtube videos for you to learn because lectures are practically worth nothing. extremely intensive, LOTS of homework graded toughly. save urself.
Prof. Chiang was my Math 299 professor. She was the best professor I have ever had and is very humble. She helped me go through problems, past test questions, and was always willing to help during her office hours. Don't let the other reviews turn you away from taking her, the difficulty of the math isn't so bad when she's your professor.
This professor seems nice and caring. Just so many issues with her, she goes over the lectures way to fast and expects students to comprehend the material. Not to mention, tough grader she wants assignments done her way. Annoying software she uses ALEKS. Accused me of missing class? ALOT OF HOMEWORK. take another prof.
She knows the material she's trying to teach but she just doesn't prepare you well enough for the tests. She goes over concepts very quickly and doesn't really elaborate for you on the board. She doesn't give practice tests or even reviews for tests. She doesn't even go over the concepts the class before the exam. Not a very good professor imo.
She is a great professor, really nice, and the class was very straightforward with weekly notes packets that you do during lecture, and online homework around once a week. I thought the class was pretty easy and I haven't done trig since high school. Would recommend!
This class was a bit challenging. I showed up to every office hour that was available and still did not end with the grade I wanted to receive. I spent countless hours everyday studying for this class. The teacher herself is a very kind woman but the class is hard. Get an outside tutor.
Very nice professor! Gave lots of office hours, and note packets which are straight forward and easy to follow. Gives really good lectures too. Her tests were similar to in class problems so definitely make sure to study and practice those again. Would recommend!
the professor goes over the material really quick and goes over the more simpler , easier problems, but gives harder versions on the test. Grades test really bad too, id skip if i were u
Hard to understand since she only covers easy examples, but tests are much harder. Moves too fast and mostly just writes on the board without explaining. Office hours aren't helpful; she spends all her time with one student. Organic Chemistry Tutor helps but doesn't cover exam-level material.
Teaches fast and doesn't take enough time to help students in class. Gives homework up to 70 problems to finish in one week. unrealistic pace!! More than half of her students withdrew from the class. she undermines students publicly; is rude to the smart kids who have decent questions. I wouldn't take her.
Professor Chiang is kind and offers lots of office hours, but her lectures move very fast and she doesn't slow down to explain each section. Exams start early in the semester, and the pace feels faster than the course itself. Be prepared to keep up or attend office hours often.
The class is extremely lecture-heavy. Her exams are way more difficult than they should be, and they determine your grade. She does not adequately prepare you for exams, and also does not really curve. Very nice professor, but her class made me lose some love for math. I have never struggled in a math course until this one. Take another professor.
It pains me to leave a bad rating for her, since she's so nice but truth be told she's a bad/mediocre professor. She does NOTHING to prepare you for her exams, and that's literally all there is to this bad rating. Take another professor if you are serious about your grade
She is kind, but a bad teacher. She won't prepare you or do reviews for exams, she marks you down for the smallest, pickiest things, greatly impacting your grade. Goes over easy examples, but her tests are SUPER hard. I was great at math before taking her course. Her class is practically empty now. Don't take her if you care about your GPA.
Nice person/worst teacher. She won't prepare you or do reviews for exams, she marks you down for the smallest, pickiest things, greatly impacting your grade. Goes over easy examples, but her tests are SUPER hard. I was great at math before taking her course. Her class is practically empty now. She sets you up to fail.
Caring and nice person, but in my opinion she needs to understand the students in her classes are in calculus and pretty much higher level math, not elementary school math. Again she is very kind but her tone, overexplaining, and request for answers to simple math seems patronizing.
Very hard class and even harder teacher. Final was nothing like study guide given to us. Rarely curves and if she does it's 2-3 points.
Good person, poor professor. Her exams are absolutely NOTHING like any homework or practice problems she assigns. Her lectures are vague, rushed, and sometimes it feels like she doesn't even know what she's doing. Does't round grades or curve exams despite everyone struggling with them. Take another professor. Very nice person though
She's an okay professor, its just the fact she doesnt guide you on studying for tests. She says to go over the homework and guided work sheet, but the problems are either too easy, or too hard. For the final, she gave us a study guide but half of the questions on the finals, wasnt even on the study guide. I'd say if you take her, study hard
Her explaining can be confusing. She spent some time in class going over a worksheet that she said was going to be on the final, but it wasn't. The final study guide wasn't like the final, some stuff on the final wasn't on the study guide, so it didn't prepare us well. If you take her, pay attention, study hard, do tutoring, or her office hours.
She gives simple examples in class, but the real exams are much harder. Sometimes her lectures are hard to understand. I studied a lot for this class. My advice is to go to office hours as often as you can and practice.
all ratings are true about this professor. She does not prepare you to pass, do yourself a favor and go with someone else.
This was my first semester, and while the exams required consistent, focused studying, the professor made the learning experience very positive and she consistently put in extra effort to ensure everyone understood the calculus concepts. The class requires commitment, it is a very rewarding class for students willing to put in the effort.
While Professor Chiang is incredibly kind and an otherwise excellent educator, she does not adequately prepare students for exams. Lectures and homework problems seldom reflect exam material. Anything less than mastery of trig and algebra will cost you on exams--oftentimes more than your calculus skills. Study beyond what is presented by the prof.
