Very interesting clas. class flies by. i have her for criminalistics and you don't mind going to class. she does keep you the entire time, though. It being interesting does help A LOT. no stress at all, just enjoyment. a few papers and a final. highly recommended
Really nice and helpful profrssor
she definitely relates the work to real world situation. which make the class interesting. she gets the class involve and learning, that's what makes a good teacher, definitely taking her next semester
Great to look at, very cheesy but funny at times, is very helpful in all aspects of college material, likes for students to write but is not a hard grader. just do the work
She is very helpful. The class was very interesting. She goes over current events in class.... One of the best professors and I am taking her for criminalistics.
excellent professor, easy going with grades and always related topics to current events. definitely take a course with her if you have to, you'll learn a lot from her and she makes it really interesting.
i love this woman! such a great teacher. funny and keeps class interesting. young and cool but has a lot of experience and works in CRJ outside of teaching. interesting real life stories and experience. fair with assignments and grading. definitely one of my favorites at farmingdale. take her!!
Great professor, very nice, extremely funny, makes class interesting, cares about students, talks about her experiences in the field, highly recommend her classes, makes class fun
Great professor. Very smart. Has real world experience (doesn't teach from a book)! Actually cares about students (very rare). Willing to help you if you put the time in and do the work. Makes class fun and encourages continual involvement from all students. Not a breeze through class but definitely understandable when she breaks it all down.
She is the best professor in that department. Her texts are not easy but if you read it wont be that bad. Her texts are essay questions. Not a boring class at all and she always kept it interesting. Always attend to class she takes that in consideration when she gives you a grade.
Not a bad class. Teaches it to be interesting. Dont need the textbook at all
Dr. Miranda is a great professor. She is very genuine with her students and is always willing to help! Her classes aren't the easiest but you'll learn a ton from taking her. Just make sure you take good notes and pay attention. She makes everything as interesting as possible. Her sense of humor is great!
Extremely funny, helpful and caring for her students. Helped me throughout my 4 years of college to register for the right classes when advisors and other professors could care less. Lectures were fun and made as interesting as possible. As long as you give her your full attention and effort you will enjoy any class she teaches.
This class was very hard but you learn a lot of interesting stuff. Dr. Miranda is hilarious and always made the class fun. I recommend taking her.
Took Computer Forensics III online summer session accelerated course. She was very clear about it being work intensive and many folks dropped. *LOTS* of writing. Every day for a month straight is a 500 word research paper & 5 forum posts of 250-500 words each. APA citations are a must all around. She uses lots of current events and recent articles.
This is a hard class and law material is dry but she keeps it funny and interesting with current events. Big on class participation. Gives tons of notes. Several small writing assignments during semester. Midterm and final are essay question tests and are weighted heavily but she lets class choose open or closed book. She cares about her students!
Let me just put it out there. You're more likely to have her your second to last semester,or last semester. If you're not interested in pursuing a grad degree following graduation,I would take an easier professor for project. I am thankful I had her for project, because this class was a foreshadow to daily life in grad school. Great, but difficult.
While Dr. Miranda is a fantastic professor, her work comes in VERY heavy loads. I, myself, was taking this class along with 6 others while working two part time jobs and volunteering one day a week to my local ambulance garage. On top of all the reading, her assignments were very long and difficult for someone as busy as I am.
Very harsh professor. If you suffer from any kind of illness that may affect your ability to perform at your highest do not even consider her. She will not bend at all or work with you on deadlines. No sympathy. Definitely on a power high. Requires you to sign something in the beginning of the semester in regards to how you will speak to her.
Shes an awesome professor whos willing to go the extra mile for her students and make sure the information is understood. She makes her classes fun and interesting and time flies when youre sitting in class or lab.
Tough grader. Make sure you copy everything from her powerpoints. Her test are short answer essay format. She is funny at times.
Dr. Miranda made coming to class every week incredibly enjoyable. I learned so many things that were interesting and kept me engaged. She was very straightforward with her expectations. As long as you follow directions, you will succeed. It also doesn't hurt to participate so she sees that you're trying.
I dont recommend taking her. She claims she will review before the exams but doesnt instead wants students to guess what will be on the exam like thats going to help . Shes slow at grading . Make sure you have the textbook . Her notes barely help on her exams . The answers come from textbook just read .
Honestly, she is a great professor. She's not one of those professors who take bs, and allows you to run with it. Makes you work for great, homework every week due on Saturday and Sundays with a clear grading criteria. I would honestly take care again. she also responds to emails within a good time.
if you can choose another professor, please do. the workload makes ZERO SENSE, and she could care less about the student. would never take her again.
SO strict with grading, no late papers accpeted as if we dont have a life and things happen
Talk about a nightmare. This has to be the least caring teacher I have ever had. Whatever you do stay away because she grades papers based on her feelings. Wont give any explanation other than "see the syllabus" and my good GPA is going down the toilet. Almost feel like crying because my hard work is for nothing because of her
I did well but it was unnecessarily tedious. Honestly one of the worst experiences I've had at this school. Avoid if possible
Wow, talk about someone who should not be teaching. I regret taking this professor please find someone else if you can
NO! DONT TAKE HER! she makes her midterms and finals unnecessarily difficult and tedious. Her required homework takes HOURS to complete a week and boring beyond belief. She hasn't handed back one assignment and its the last week of class, I'm graduating and I have no clue how I'm even doing in the class. DO NOT TAKE HER! SAFE YOURSELF THE STRESS!!!
Best professor at Farmingdale. I learned so much in this class; more than any other that I have taken, and I am a senior. She is phenominal, helpful and kind and really knows this subject which is fascinating. I started in class, but due to the pandemic ended up continuing on line. She was always there for us and supportive.
She is fantastic
Not sure why theres any good comments about this teacher to be completely honest. DO NOT TAKE HER! she doesn't care if you are swamped with other work or that you have a life outside of school! She will make you read 70 (printer pages) page long articles and write outlines on them WEEKLY. She is totally in over her head and thinks this is Harvard.
She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. She does not care about you or what you have going on. She assigns weekly assignments that require you to read 70 pages and write an outline along with other discussions. Any question you ask her response is "refer to syllabus" and that's it. Stay away from her if you can. Worst experience ive had
Material is very dry and tedious. Unnecessary workload especially for things that are just out of textbooks which is a very extremely horrible way of teaching... Her expectations are very unrealistic of a college student. It would have been better if she could engage in teaching instead of just saying to refer to a textbook...
Miranda is horrible. I have taken college classes for over 5 years, up to and including 400 level courses, and she makes you type at least 1000-2000 words a week if you want anywhere near a decent grade, and I am now halfway through the semester and still know nothing about forensics. If you are taking criminalistics, take a different professor.
Shes not actually teaching us anything. She basically gives us a couple articles each week and make an outline for the one she tells us to. Most of the articles are like 40+ pages. Any time I send her an email about the assignments she just says to refer to the syllabus. I would not recommend her to anyone.
She puts very little care into explaining what you actually need to do, doesn't teach very much, and I have learned virtually nothing except that I will have to spend 4-8 hours a week repeating what an article says in order to get a decent grade. No analysis, her lecture is a waste of time, this class is a waste of time and effort.
Don't take her. Its not worth it. Haven't learned a single thing this semester besides how to read 40 page academic articles that are impossible to understand. Never tells you why you got points taken off, only says "refer to syllabus." By far the most difficult and hardest class I'm taking this semester.
This woman has 0 respect for your time. She assigns between 1000 and 3000 word assignments that are due in two days once a week about topics you won't understand as a 200 level CRJ major. Also, in the last week she is assigning two outlines that are 110 pages of legalise and a "discussion" (paper) that requires 11 sources, adding up to 5000 words.
Have fun doing "final paper" amounts of work once a week, and two or three times that during midterms and finals! Also her lectures are pointless, all she talks about is how other professors that offer this class are useless and she is great at it while covering literally nothing, when she only assigns high level biology articles which mean nothing
Before you see her grade and say "well some people like her", look at her reviews. Virtually every review past 2016 is bombing her. She is HORRIBLE. She is easily the worst professor in terms of stress, time investment, and teaching I have *ever* had. Avoid her, don't ruin your semester. I took 3 classes this semester and I am overwhelmed.
massive ego and unbelievable amount of (pointless) work. just take a different professor, theyre easier and more practical, all she does is assign things that show how complicated forensic science is without explaining them and unless you are going into that field (which is unlikely given the major) just don't bother with her, take a different one.
This professor is quite presumptuous at times, there are no lectures on material but there are interactions with the students on material, shes not a bad professor and shes not a great professor but it is quite clear this is college and there is nobody to babysit you youre on your own and you work for your gradeIts part of adapting to adulthood
2 weeks into class and can honestly say Miranda is the worst I have had yet The work load per week is already about 7 pages on things that have nothing to do with criminalistics. Also every few weeks you will have a discussion also that nears 1500 words. Stay far way and if you show up to class but don't participate no credit. Awful experience.
Review below me is spot on 2 weeks into the semester 69 pages to read and summarize into the perfect word document and you're given about 4-6 days if you start on the weekend. My 400 classes don't even give this much work I wish I dropped it while I still could. Good luck if you take this class. C's get degrees.
She is a very tough professor when you take her class. It will not be a cakewalk but despite all the work she gives it was pretty easy if you take the time to do it. Class had no tests only 5 extremely detailed discussions and a outline of the textbook chapter each week. She does come across mean but I think she wants us ready for the real world
One of Farmingdales Best! Learned so much from this professor and was truly sad to graduate just cuz I knew U wouldn't see her anymore! Miss her lectures and her great personality
the workload is crazy, she expects you to outline 90-page articles every week meanwhile taking other classes, and everything has to be perfect or you will get penalized. If you take this professor get ready to bomb your GPA. waste of hard earn money and time I am going to withdrawal
Not sure how this professor has a 3/5. Deserves a 0 if it was possible. Do not take this course unless you have nothing to do all day besides read 70 page articles and outline them in "APA" format. "APA" format being whatever she makes up. LOVES to deduct points on all assignments for reasons unexplained. WILL not get an answer as to what was wrong
Take this class if you want to read 1 or 2 50-100 page articles and write a specific outline on them every single week. Rarely gives out good grades no matter how much time/effort you put into assignments. Also have to have 1500 word discussions every few weeks. Assigns MORE articles as "supplemental readings." No respect for your time.
Professor Miranda, is a tough professor but has good intentions, to make you work for your grade, and if you follow her academic feedback, you will improve as a student
I didn't learn anything in this class. She assigns 50-80 page outlines every week instead of teaching. You have to cite very specifically or points off. She wont tell you where you messed up, just says to look back at the syllabus. 3 hours to do an outline on an article that has nothing to do with the class. Not worth the stress and effort.
Her class is interesting and she is a great teacher. Her work is just completely unbearable and useless. Be prepared to read thousands of pages and outline them as well. The work is way too much and definitely unnecessary. She is a very harsh grader as well. Try to avoid this class if possible. The work load is unmanageable for students.
Dr. Miranda is one of the best professors I've ever had. She does give a good amount of work but you have a week to do one assignment. Very enthusiastic and keeps you focused with her energy. I recommend participating but there were no tests or quizzes! If you have the chance to take her class do it.
I had her Spring semester of 2021 and let me just say she is NOT understanding whatsoever. She is a the worst professor ever. If you want to fail then take her but if you want to learn, get educated, and pass the class take someone else. I do not know why she is not fired yet. She does not care about her students at all.
Currently taking her 3-week intensive inter-semester class, and oh god it's INTENSE! EVERY DAY there is a discussion board post that is basically a research paper done in her APA format. Along with that, you must respond to her question on your post and someone else's post, and don't forget the weekly assignment. I am so overwhelmed with work!
As a senior at farmingdale, I can confidently say that she is the worst professor I have EVER had. She is not understanding at all and takes off points for anything and everything. If you want to fail and have a miserable time doing so, take her!
I can honestly say this is the worst class ever. The professor herself isnt whats terrible, is the work load which is absolutely ridiculous. Dr. Miranda expects her students to have the knowledge of an expert in the field, she expects you to know everything based on articles that are pages and pages long. Please avoid this class!
You will not have a life, reading 100 page articles everyday and writing a 450 word discussion post that has to be cited in apa format (she doesn't know what it is) referencing articles filled with hoopla. Never have i had a teacher be so critical in her grading yet she gives absolutely no feedback at all. She doesnt care about her students its bad
Talk about a waste of time/money/effort. If I knew every single thing I submitted would get more than half of points off for the littlest things, I wouldnt have even put as much effort as I did. Feel like I didnt even learn in this class, it was just a race against time. Wish I could go back and never take this class with her. SAVE YOURSELF NOW
Took this class during the intersession. The workload is insane. 3 assignments and 400 word discussions due everyday. Plus 2 additional posts addressing her additional questions and other peers and. If u work this class is nearly impossible to manage. I only had 2-3 hours of sleep everyday trying to stay up to date with the work. Not worth it.
Dr. Miranda is a very knowledgeable professor that wants her students to learn about the criminal Justice field. Her work makes students gain valuable knowledge that can be applied to several other criminal justice classes. She make you work for your grade. Her class if no joke, she takes it all serious as anyone in a professional setting would.
She is a very tough grader, doesnt give any advice and doesnt help you what so every. She would assign so much work to do in a very little time.
Every week she'd assign a reading (sometimes 2) ranging from 10-70 pages long and require outlines for each individually that ultimately taught nothing but how to BS assignments. Top it off with her terrible feedback, extremely critical and minimalistic grading, and the fact that this was all due on Tuesday's at 11:59 P.M.. Avoid her at all costs.
She does not give u enough time to do any assignments. She has u read papers (sometimes 2) witch can be 10-50 pages long and expects u to be done with it on Tuesdays at 11:59 pm. She takes off more than half of the points for dumb stuff and I feel like she does not care if you pass. She only cares about her ego.
Terrible Teacher Never Take any class with her. Every time you see the homework it makes you want to drop the class. Not worth your mental health.
There are 24 students in my class and half way through the semester only 6 students are submitting the work. She assigns the work on Sunday and it's due Tuesday. You watch a hour long lecture, then she assigns 20-70 pages to read, after that you have to write 400 word discussion and 500 word assignment. All due in 3 days!
She assigns the work on Sunday and it's due Tuesday. You watch an hour-long lecture, then she assigns 20-70 pages to read, after that you have to write a 400 word discussion and a 500 word assignment. You have to respond to her and a classmate, and the posts have to be at least 100 words. This is all done in 3 days. She never answer emails either.
If you are looking for a teacher who will deduct point for anything and everything she's your professor. I highly recommend staying far away from this class. She quite literally will take points away if you do not give your full legal name on assignments. If you do end up in this class, drop or change the course immediately. Thank me Later!
I took her online class and it was actually awful. She requires a lot of information on her discussion and assignments and is a horrible grader and takes off points for the tiniest things. She doesn't put grades up in a reasonable time, SO YOU WILL BE STRESSING ABOUT THAT! For the love of God, if you want to keep your sanity, do not take her.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Doesn't care about her students who are trying to improve their grade she just says read the rubric. The most difficult grader I have ever had. You can do everything right and still get a horrible grade. Never will I have have this professor again it was the worst experience.
I'm a straight A senior and she is the worst professor I've ever had. I almost failed her class. She makes it incredibly hard. She will take off points for the most ridiculous things and make it purposely impossible to do good in her class. Thinks her class is the only one you're taking. Class ruined my gpa. Idk how she has a job at Farmingdale.
Although Dr Miranda is a difficult grader. She is very clear on the grading criteria and what she expects of you right from the gate. Participation is a huge portion of your grade, helping if you can't complete assignments correctly. The professor is amazing, and her lectures were very interesting. Idk why she has such a low rating.
Get prepare to READ READ & do Discussions, LONG Assignments w/ APA format, RESEARCH, tough grader, Im a straight A, B student and the amount of work she gives its very difficult to keep track, specially if you have a FT job, maybe kids or any other life style outside FSC. You have to be very dedicated & focus to be able to keep up & pass the course
She is a very difficult grader. Not understanding at all. Will give you zero points for completed assignments. Answers emails in a rudely manner you can sense. All semester I kept emailing her and never came to an agreement barely answered back. Would not recommend 0/0 !
Horrible professor. Takes zero time to explain concepts and just says to read a boring dry textbook. Clearly has barely any real world experience with the subjects she attempts to teach. Extremely condescending.
I do not recommend taking Dr. Miranda unless you enjoy staying up all night writing for one of the disscusion boards or for her assignments.
Professor Miranda is a strict professor but is fair in her assignments. There are no exams, only written assignments that are fair game. Be prepared to read a lot and annotate a lot. Other than that, she genuinely cares for her students if they also put in the work. Respect is not given; it is earned (just like in the real world).
As a straight-A student teachers/ classes like this infuriate me! This by far was my lowest grade in my entire college experience. You get 2 and a half days to complete work that is hard and LONGGGG, so specific and tedious. Just know, if you see any good reviews .... they're not from one of her students if ya get what I'm trying to say ;))))
Don't get me wrong, she means well but her class was unbearable. Assignments are so unreasonably difficult and take lots of time to do. Be ready to read boring research papers and cite at least 2-4 for assignment. Her lecture is boring as well. Doesn't offer help on anything and just refers you to the rubric instead. I'd avoid taking her class.
Please.. dont take her. I was out here thinking I would be fine and disregarded the reviews. First assignment in my opinion was done really good by me. She said she'd be kind with grading since it was first assignment. I got a D-. just wait till other classes are open if this is your last resort.
The curriculum is well organized- all lectures and readings are connected to the topics studied. Get ready to read! Take note of the Class Schedule and the Discussion and Assignment requirements and grading rubrics, as Dr. Miranda holds strictly to these grading criteria -no exceptions.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Do not take her class, she makes it impossible to pass. Gives no realistic feedback for you to really improve and will continue giving you constant failing grades with no remorse. Awful
