Professor Driessen is deceiving. I didn't think she was that bad for the first couple of weeks since she was usually smiling during class and doing interesting demonstrations however the second you need help she will not be helpful. She made me feel stupid for asking questions and is not willing to award points back no matter how right you may be.

I really enjoyed taking the hybrid section with her. The videos were very nice to be able to go back to and rewatch. Unfortunately, the tests are BRUTAL. They're 12 questions each and it's very easy to get things wrong and the minute you do your grade goes down. I would be proud getting an 8/12 on an exam, but that's a 66%. Not an easy class.

I took the hybrid version of 1061, with online lecture videos and in-class practice problems. Driessen is very helpful and explains concepts intuitively, and most of her lectures include demos that relate to the subject. The class is graded by a hierarchy of criteria (not points), which makes it clear how much effort makes for a certain grade.

Taking this class with Driessen was extremely frustrating. The grading system is set up so that you can get 100% in everything, but if you don't receive a certain percent in one of the 4 categories, you do not get a passing grade. Prof Driessen's course style was very unique and beneficial. Lectures at home, big discussions during the week. Biggest problem with her course was very few points available, meaning 1-2 questions wrong on a quiz would drop a student to a B+/A-. The topics covered in 1061 are not super hard, Prof. Driessen inflates the difficulty of these topics by having a horrible course structure and refusing to teach. Fully TA run so your grades and assignments probably will never be seen by Professor Driessen. My TA graded very harshly so assignments were harder to get credit for; all assignments are P/F graded. The grading system is confusing and at times irritating. If you enjoy group projects you will enjoy lab. Wouldn't recommend unless you have to take it.

Lab section is fully TA-run (Mine was great but this rating aint about him) The course uses a specification grading system but it's very tight and leaves little room for growth. You didn't get credit for the first few assignments? Boo-hoo you're not getting more than a C. You'll need to do homework/reading outside of lab to understand the projects.

Driessen doesn't teach—lectures are just “work on Stemble” while LAs wander around. Stemble is awful, grading worse, and I talked to support more than her. Workload is chaotic: some weeks 2 hrs, others a lab, 29 assignments, and an exam. Totally self-taught. Be prepared for confusion, stress, and zero guidance.

AI grades our assignments (incorrectly sometimes), and lectures are nonexistent, merely a continuation of the modules we were working on out of class. There are no accommodations for anything; she expects our lives to revolve around this class. This department is one of the many contributing factors that led me to transfer out of this university.

like everyone else has already said, you will have to try to teach yourself everything. your lab won't be anything close to what you're supposed to be learning in lecture. but the best part is, there is no lecture. you'll sit in a lecture hall and do homework that was never taught to you that will be graded by ai. and ai will grade you wrong.

I had a 79.89% which is just short of the 80 cutoff for a B-. I emailed her asking if she is able to round up. Never replied. The following day, she sent an external email to all the students saying. “I will not respond to these messages as I take learning and the integrity of course grades seriously”. Which is very unprofessional and inconsiderate.

AI grades everything, the exams are taken with lockdown browsers, which is so strict I got paused so many times for moving, giving me stress. The assignments are too much yet not good enough to understand something better. You will have to teach things to yourself. I loved the lab, i think i learned more from the lab than the lecture.

Ever wanted a fully self-taught chemistry class? Congratulations, you found it. Lectures are just "work on the homework" with no actual teaching, and assignments are graded by Ai that's incorrect. You probably don't have another professor to choose from so if you're not religious pick one and pray for dear life.

You learn the material outside of class from videos and unhelpful textbook reading. Lecture is working on worksheets with TAs and the prof to answer questions. She's receptive to questions, however you quite literally are teaching everything yourself.

This class was awful. The professor does not teach and relies completely on an online platform. Lectures are useless and the course is entirely self taught. All grading is done by AI with vague feedback. The professor is not helpful or accessible, and TAs were not helpful either. Avoid this class if you want real instruction.

Felt like a good start to chemistry labs. Driessen will not be your professor, you'll have a TA who runs your lab session and works for her. A bit strict on grading lab reports but if you have a chill TA (like me!) you'll get by just fine in the course. The work is time consuming and frustrating but you only have to write 1-2 lab reports.

The lectures are not lectures just "work on the homework with the people around you" time. The TAs and professor would float around and would give you very vague answers to your questions. All of the homework is AI graded but oftentimes the AI would be wrong so it made it impossible to learn anything properly. This professor made it so hard to care

Everything I want to say lines up with what everyone else is saying (AI grading, online lecture videos, waste of class time, etc.). What I wanted to add to this was that she was often not understanding, especially towards Proctorio issues, which is ironic to how she mentioned "Please reach out if you need help" at the beginning of the course.

Paid for an online tutor and still ended with a D+. The “lectures” are worktime and you get no lecture from teachers or TAs, so there's no point in going.

The lab itself was not too bad; it could run long but if you have a good TA then it's not too difficult. I actually thought 1066 was much easier than the 1065 lab. Still, the all or nothing grading scale was unreasonable in my opinion, and Driessen was not helpful when it came to issues with the lab group.

This is a lab, so it is run by TAs and not by Michelle Driessen. The grading scale is not very forgiving, and you need to fulfill each requirement in order to obtain credit. Whether or not you get an A hinges entirely on if you get credit for the second lab report.

This class isn't too difficult itself, the reason the averages are so bad is because the tests are very confusing and set up to ensure students perform poorly. The class content itself is very manageable and 50 percent of your grade is made up of attendance and homework, the other 50 being tests. Driessen often creates very difficult questions.

Stemble, an online platform was used for all homework assignments. The A.I. went off of the feedback that the instructor inputted, yet there were many times that its feedback was incorrect. Then the student would have to email a "help line" to explain why they, in fact, should get credit for their response. There was no point in coming to lecture.
