Really good teacher. Attendance policy a little strict but overall good teacher.
Good teacher. A little to into movies, and a bit hard for an english 101. I wouldn' recomend her for english 101, but the rest of her classes should be good.
Piece of cake, one paper for the whole class, and she is relaxed
I had Michelle for 102 and had her again for 103 because she was so cool. I'm not a very good student, but I did really well in her classes. She's very young and laid back which made the class more fun. Papers aren't hard either. Grades very well.
Michelle was really nice and laid back in both classes. As long as you show interest in her class, you'll do just fine.
I took Michelle for 101, 102, 103 I found her to be very helpful and supportive with papers if she sees improvement you are going to like the results. She is a fun teacher!! I highly recommend her
She is arguably the best professor i've ever had in COD. She goes beyond the confines of traditional teaching and her insights on the culture and recent events make her class even more interesting. She will be a great teacher for interdisciplinary courses
Professor Moore "tries" to scare students away the first day of class....or so she says. Other than that, the class is fairly easy. One paper for the entire class and she is available for help if you choose to seek it. Recommended.
I had her for English 101, 103 and 226. She is one of my favorite teachers and is a very good one at that. Her classes aren't hard and she is a very fun and enthusiastic teacher. I had fun in her classes and learned a lot. I Highly Reccomend!
If you have a good grasp on the big picture of lit, history, or philosophy, she'll offer new ideas and ways of thinking without criticizing in a personal, patronizing or offensive way. Very respectful, encouraging and clearly brilliant. Quite possibly the best survey course instructor I've ever had
<3333
Very helpful instructor. Tries to scare you on the first day of class but don't let it fool ya. Very interesting class considering it's English! Easy A.
this teacher is awesome, willing to look at your papers at the last minute, and willing to compromise, understanding, she is not a ****, she should be the head of the english department
Michelle is an amazing professor. Very intelligent and laid back. She got me thinking in new ways about english, education, pretty much everything. Very straight forward and different from your traditional english class...in a good way!
Dr. Moore is a cool teacher, but if you like to do group dicussions and having other people reading you essays and giving you feed back, then I don't recommend you taking her. I have three days left and I still don't have a ten page essay. She is a scholar and she wants everything scholarly. Good Luck
she is prety nice, but dont ever be late for class.sometimes she is not clear on what she wants and you can never tell if she likes you or not.if you dont want to work hard dont take her,b/c you really have to work for your grade. Also if you dont mind doing group work and speeching in front of the class it will be fun. overall she is really smart
Dr. Moore is not that great. She a little be arrogant and not very clear on what she wants from us. The midterm and finals are horrible. This is a film class, but you get very deep into it for being an intro class. You see shots and you analyze them for over three hours. Horrible! If you are not into film, avoid her.
She is an intimidating teacher but her classes are interesting. It's one of those classes where u like to go to, but u dont want to do the work. Theres one 10pg paper, 1 presentation, and then workshops where u sit in a circle and critique each others papers. Shes very blunt in class, but very helpful. In the end, there ARE easier teachers.
This instructor can easily tell when students are lying. She talks trash on the first day and tells everyone how she was born on the same date as a famous killer. Never come late to class, she will not let you in. She did not show up to class at times, which was frustrating. However, she is cool with accepting late work. SHE GRADES VERY EASY!
I learned more about English in this film class than any of my English class. She's incredibly brilliant and you can learn a lot from her if you're willing. The tests are long and require a lot of writing but the homework is simple - watch movies and journal. I really enjoyed this class and this teacher. She's a gift.
She a friggin' genius!!! She's really smart and tries to make you smart too, so take her class!
Dr. Moore, which she demands to be called by, is a book smart professor that keeps you in check. She's an easy grader, though you should seek extra help with assignments. If you come to class on time and participate, you won't have any problems. She actually seems like a nice person.
Dr. Moore is a very nice person, the assignments and the tests are a little hard, but she is a very generous grader. Show up to class, participate, and stay on her good side. You'll do fine in this class. Be very detailed at whatever u do, she loves that, especially the presentation.
I took her summer course, and she was very laid back & easy grading. She was awesome! She didn't follow the traditional english class method and made the class interesting & cool. I heard her film class is very great as well. Take her class, she's really nice, cool, and great profs!!
Although she's a feminist (specialized in comparative lit) she does teach very interesting otherwise. Discussed Fight Club with innumerable tangents! I took an honors class - she didn't give much feedback on drafts, but made us pair up instead. GENIUS!
Dr. Moore ROCKS!!!! This class was interesting, the discussion was great and her insight was usefu and relevantl. I would recommend this class to anyone who likes film. It is somewhat easy, but be prepared to expand on your thoughts because she looks for pushing boundaries on a topic and making connections on ideas.
One of the best teachers I've come across in years. She's easy to talk to, and very intelligent. You will learn a lot in her classes and see literature differently.
Great Professor, great sense of humor, great class! I took two English honors composition classes with her, and now will be taking a third one on short novels. She is flexible and helpfull with assignments. On the last day of class, she even told the students to visit her for coffee if ever near her home in downtown Chicago.
I took this course independant study. She was really nice and clear about what she wanted me to do. My only complaint is that she never returned any of my papers and never really gave me feedback except for saying, "You're doing really well." That didn't help me improve any of my writing.
excellent professor . dr. moore is really nice. took her in the summer there was not too much to write. easy laid back class. sure to get an A or B if u attend the class regularly
DR Moore is awesome.I took her summer class, had to write 3 papers but wasnt too stressful.Made us watch movies and then do close examination which I think was really cool.Take her class and jus put little bit of work and you will be fine.
i love Dr. Moore, she teaches you to think "big picture" and "outside the box" and when you start thinking the same way, her classes are so easy..she really looks at who is in her class every day and remembers you so first impression, openness, and speaking your mind will help you in her class. She has tatooes and she is coolest!!!! :)
Dr. Moore is an amazing professor! I love her classes. She isn't the ordinary, stereotypical boring English teacher. She makes you think and find relevant sources for your paper. My only complaint is I couldn't take more classes with her.
I don't know if this was how she was in the past, but she hasn't shown up for class in over a month. I'm taking her Honors English 1101, and all we're doing is watching the Simpsons. She's pretty good, helpful, but one time when she didn't show, she said we had to wait for her the entire 90 minutes. So, she lied because we only have to wait 15 min.
She is a good teacher for the most part, the two page paper she assigns are easy after a while. She has a habit of rambling on a subject, like WWI when reading aa short story by Hemingway. For whatever reason, everything relates to sex and vampires. Though, she was nice enough to give me a c on my late midterm. Overall, she is a good teacher!
She's very nice. I really liked her class a lot, and I hope to take more with her. You learn a lot in her class, not only about how to become a better writer, but also about random things that are good to know. Definitely Recommended!
I took this professor because she got good reviews. She is not a good film teacher. I love film and she drives all the enjoyment out of it. The text was horrible and her tests are terrible. There must be better film teachers out there. Avoid her!!!
Dr. Moore is fantastic! She's one of the best professors I've ever had. I took two Comp. classes with her as well as an American Lit. course and I learned so much.
Through her honors course, I feel that I learned more about writing and researching papers than the 1101 course and all of my high school courses combined. She definitely brings a lot to the table to help you develop ideas and think critically.
Entire class based around one 15-page research paper. At first it seemed overwhelming, but she was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I got a B+ in the class but probably deserved a C due to poor attendance and few revisions. You will literally get an A for effort on the paper and in the class if you show up to class and turn things in on time.
I don't understand her fascination with penguins but she is such a great prof!
Moore is definitely a class for the intellectual, and the one who likes to be independent of curriculum & regular class customs. Her class is BUILT for discussion & free thinking, very engaging and thought-provoking. She's easy if you're not a total tard, but by no means are you guaranteed an A. Recommends great books!
I took Professor Moore's online class. There is a lot of reading invloved and a lot of discussion board topics. You really need to particpate in the discussion boards to pass her class. She expects thought provoking discussions. Basicsally you can't just say I agree with that. I got an A in her class. I think she grades fair.
She's definitely one of my favorite professors so far. You have to read a lot, so don't sign up unless that's your thing. Personally, I love to read and she opened up the literary world to me in ways I didn't think about. There's a bit of writing involved but she does help you get started with in class discussions for ideas.Overall, great professor!
I took Professor Moore's Honors Written Comp 1101 and 1102 classes. At first it was hard to get to understand her communication style, but I now love her. She's really helpful and understanding. You need to ask for specific feedback, but she'll give it when she knows you want it. Works very conceptually and expects attendance. Wonderful prof!
If you can't handle a teacher who doesn't spoon feed you, hold your hand, or carry you kicking and screaming to the academic finish line, you're probably going to give Moore a bad review. If you enjoy thinking, using your brain, not being an idiot, and overcoming challenging notions, this class is probably for you.
Not straightforward enough- meanings must be drawn out of lengthy readings. Material for on-line class a bit dated also restrictive. If you have difficulties writing and wanted to learn something from a class, this class on-line is not advisable. I would imagine she would be better in another setting, but personally I'm not a fan of this class.
I took her film art class, it was awfully boring. She likes to talk and talk and not really go over what we are supposed to be learning, very unclear. We have to write five 4-paged papers, not that bad, but topics are confusing.
Loved her on-line English class this fall. Work load was manageable and reading material was extremely interesting. This was my first on-line interactive class with other classmates which I found helpful. Great class and great teacher. Responded quickly to all questions asked. Thank you Prof. Moore!
I loved this teacher so much. She gave us a complete historical context for the texts we were reading and made connections that I had never thought of. The class format of discussion was extremely fun and intellectually exciting. I wish I could take this class again.
I took her Film as a Literature class, and I don't know if it was simply our class that she hated, but she was incredibly rude. She was extremely vague on deadlines then would mock the class and say things like "Oh are we in kindergarten still?" when most of the class didn't do the assignment. Would not take her class again.
This was my second class with Dr. Moore. She is not a push over and has high expectations, but if you want to be prepared for university style classes she's a great professor. She's more than willing to help and answer your questions and the class discussions are very stimulating. I highly recommend her, if you are in college to learn that is.
You are missing out if you skip class. She is extremely knowledgeable about English literature and college/major advice. She is focused on each individual student and gives guidance on how to write papers by helping you figure it out for yourself. If you put effort into the class, you should be able to get an A.
wow do not take her, she is very rude and arrogant. She's smart but very mean about it and acts like everyone is stupid. she is very unclear about deadlines and guidelines for projects/papers. She also changed the date that the final was due, one day in class she says one day then changes it on blackboard to be due 2 days earlier.
Extremely intelligent woman, she can come across as arrogant or rude, but has the knowledge to back it up! Very interesting content if your smart enough to understand the big kid words. I took honors English first semester as a freshman and I'd take a class from her again.
One of the most unique teachers you will ever find! She was fun, lively and straight forward. The knowledge i gained in her class i can honestly say i will never forget. Looking forward to taking more of her classes!
Super helpful, always wants to help you become a better writer. She has a process of making our papers better over time with peer edits and class discussions and individual critiques in front of the class (so everyone benefits). I'm totally taking her again.
In her Film class she has you read books for the first half and then watch movies for the second. She said right away if you do not like horror drop her class. The class was very interesting. She has good ideas and I enjoyed the films in class. I had already seen most. She has great sarcasm. She is understanding when it comes down to it.
Michelle is awesome! The class had pretty tough readings but the way she explained them was the kind of thing that saves your grade. There aren't many papers- mostly some short responses to the readings- just one midterm and one final essay.
The good news: the course content is really interesting, offers a lot to gain. The bad news: Professor Moore only cares about her own opinions on the textfilm. If you're interested in an open learning environment where you are able to draw your own individual opinions from the course material, this professor is not for you.
At first, Dr. Moore seemed to be just another arrogant academic, and I can understand how some keep that impression: she is an intelligent woman and at times can sound rude. She is also the most helpful English professor I have had. Peer reviewing and class edit days made it clear what she wanted in a paper, as well as how to write well. Funny too.
Moore was pretty great! She's very intelligent, and she really made me deeper into the film! The only hw assignments was the discussion board posts, and they were super easy. I think Moore was a pretty easy grader-and she really loves getting deep into film discussions.
At first, Dr. Moore seemed like she would be a tough professor, but she turned out to be an easy grader. I asked for advice about the papers I was writing and revised them a couple of times and I got an A. Dr. Moore is great and is more than willing to help you if you ask her.
I took her American Literature class and she's a wonderful teacher. Though she lectures for most of the class, she always makes sure to answer any questions and accepts others opinions. Only have 4 papers to do through out the semester and they're fairly easy, never too much of a workload.
Professor Moore was surprisingly an easy grader for my American lit class. Her lectures were very helpful to better understand the readings and she is also very knowledgeable. I would definitely take her again if I had the chance. Great professor!
Took her for Am Lit--wow. She is super passionate about the subject matter and incredibly knowledgeable. I took this class just to fulfill a requirement and am now considering a degree in this field. Doesn't give lots of hw, just make sure you read. 4 papers all semester, that's it. Have fun in this class, I wish I could take it again.
The whole semester was spent learning how to write a 15 page research paper. Dr. Moore let everyone pick their own research questions (as long as it was specific). Half the semester was spent doing research and the other half was writing the paper. She broke it down so that the workload was manageable. I learned a lot about researching and writing.
Took online english 1102. It was mainly concerned with writing one research paper. She gave you clear deadlines and goals to get the paper in on time. She does not grade harshly at all.
English 1101 is all writing papers, so come to class with your prepared drafts and really work on revising them, as well as participate in the workshops, and you should get a good grade. Dr. Moore is very intelligent and can be a little overwhelming sometimes but overall a good teacher, good class, and I enjoyed how we wrote our papers!
I had Dr. Moore for both my 1101 and American literature and she is fantastic. She really made both classes interesting and relatable. She has an amazing amount of background knowledge on almost everything (better than google). Honestly my favorite professor I have taken at this school.
Took her online 8 week 1102 and it was pretty easy. Make sure you read the requirement for the discussions. It does not matter how detailed you post are for those as long as you have 16 all together for each one you'll get full points. There are only a couple essays and I received full points on them.
If you get the chance to take one professor at COD, take her. Not only is she brilliant in her field, she cares about her students. She can be intense, but that's only because you are there to learn. Her feedback is helpful and you learn how to actually write. Don't take the class if you are there to ditch or goof off, she means business.
I loved this course with her! She is such an easy grader and you feel like you really get to learn a lot in her english 1102 online, I took this class for 8 weeks and at times she wouldn't even knock off points if something is late, shes nice! and I would get full points for all of my essays, I got out with an A and honestly would take her again!
I took Professor Moore's short fiction class in the summer! She does not post a lot on blackboard but all of her requirements are very clear! I actually enjoyed this class because the stories are actually good and entertaining. She paces her online classes on what is easiest for you! I will definitely take her again!
She seems to be smart and she actually is. The only issue that she has is the lack of concern for students. She came across very rude and arrogant multiple times. If you ask her for help , she will help but with a smart remark almost to make you feel bad or stupid. Course wise she is good but she has no manners is the impression I have of her.
Whole class was just writing papers. If you come to class, participate in workshop, and ask questions you will do more than fine!
One of the best and kindest teachers I've had. Just follow the rubric for papers and turn in assignments on time and it's and easy A. I also was unable to turn in a paper on time and explained my situation and Professor Moore was kind enough to let me submit it late for full credit! Not just a great teacher but an outstanding human being.
Everything is common sense I love this professor very understanding there is 6 units I recommend reading the book she assigns but you dont have to ! Theres 5 essay total but they are not hard ! Take her please
took English1101 online. coursework is showing its age. Get ready to write more than you'd ever have thought possible about about french fries. class is very discussion heavy. meeting the requirement is not difficult, but tedious and time consuming. Fair grader.
Just about writing papers. Papers seems tough at first, but she makes us workshop and gives good feedback.
Dr. Moore is straight up the smartest person you will ever meet. She knows everything about everything off the top of her head, far beyond the curriculum. She loves her study and she'll make you love it too. She is always supportive of your opinions and ideas. Plus, she loves movies so you'll probably ends up watching some in class too;)
I loved Dr. Moore. She didn't just teach English composition, she taught a new approach to writing. 4 papers the whole semester with plenty of workshops that help a lot. Do not miss them. She's always willing to help make your writing better. You can tell she is very knowledgeable in her field. I would definitely take her again!
At least in her honors class, the whole semester stems around one 15 page paper that is due on the final day. Beforehand, there are just a bunch of mini papers due, which aren't hard. She is very invested in everyone's topic and wants people to write well. The first half of the semester was in class research and the second half is peer editing.
Great teacher.
She is very passionate about English and is a very easy grader. It is beneficial to go to class because that is the editing for your papers happens. Class based on 4 papers and a some points for attendance. She is accessible outside of class & will really help turn your essays into more scholarly work, learned alot about how to write an essay.
I had her for honors and it was great. She is clear about what she expects from you, she is readily accessible if you need extra help, and she is wicked smart. It's refreshing to have a professor who is genuine, knowledgable, and passionate about their work. I left her class as a stronger writer. Do what you're asked and you'll have a great time.
Film as Lit with Michelle Moore is one of the easiest online classes you can take at COD. You have like an assignment or two every week and they're all super easy. I don't think I even fully watched a single one of the movies and I still got an A+. Definitely would recommend, tell all my friends to take this one as it's an easy A if you do the work
While I have never met Professor Moore, since COVID-19 had changed how education as a whole is conducted, I know that she means well. I mean, this class online is basically self-taught, though extremely well laid out so it's possible to be done. A couple of responses, and a 3-5 page paper, a proposal and a 5-7 page paper with many 10 pt discussions
She was very helpful, always responded very quickly. Graded fairly based on work completed.
I definitely recommend this class to any student trying to quickly finish their gen eds. Moore is very organized and has created a fair grading system. There are 2 essays and 1 short essay in the semester. This is a nice laid back class that doesn't demand a lot of time. Beware missing assignments, as she doesn't offer extra credit and they add up.
She is a great professor and gives all the assignments at the beginning of the semester. She is lenient and understanding and her grading system is fair in my opinion. The entire semester you work on one assignment which I liked and it made her class enjoyable.
A lot of short readings! But easy and fun writing assignments just do all the homework and youll get a good grade, she is an easy grader! I would take her again!
Professor Moore was an amazing professor! She was very clear with her instructions, and despite her being quite direct, she made class very self-explanatory and fun! We watched movies ranging of dates, and we had to use that unit's terminology onto our 2 weekly 500+ words posts. No exam! Answers emails super quickly! There's a critique assignment.
Overall she was a good professor. This class is VERY quick paced and the movies she picked are not ones that I enjoyed. Watch 2 movies a week and write a discussion board each. Overall an easy grader, but definitely would have liked more clarification on assignments since the prompts for the 16 discussion boards were overall very vague.
Prof. Moore really wants you to improve your writing and get out of that high school writing structure habit. Wish she couldve been a bit clearer on prompts, but that also leaves a lot of room for you to write as you please. She's a generous grader and is very proud of what she does. Great experience!
Main grade is a research paper. Grading criteria is laid out, follow directions and you will get an A. Need to put effort in discussion board and papers. Quality not quantity. Great professor, great feedback. Would take again. Found textbook online. No tests/quizzes.
Took this as an online class and it was super easy. Directions on all assignments are very clear and all of it leads up to one research paper. Always responded to emails and let you make up work that received a bad grade or turned in late, as long as you didn't abuse it. Assignments were due on the same days each week.
great class and teacher. very simple instructions and easy for busy schedules. about 12 films to watch and discuss. one final overall discussion post. no tests, quizzes, or papers. only discussion posts. responds to emails quickly. easy A. great introductory film class. highly recommend.
Had her for an online class and I would recommend taking her. All of your work leads up to one research paper and it's very doable and you have enough time to get everything done. Let you rewrite assignments if you did poorly. Was super easy to reach outside of class and offers extensions with no penalty as long as you email her. Take her!
Graded for turned in work not quality, no late work allowed, textbook is a book you buy on Amazon, will have to rent assigned movies to watch cant do assignments w/o them ($2-5), lot of assignments but are really easy and can be done quickly. Nice teacher, should get 100% in the class for the work bc its so easy. turn in work and have an A+.
I took this class as a requirement, but I really enjoyed it. Professor Moore is very straightforward on her grading, when assignments are due, and basically has everything out there from the start. I was able to finish assignments early, and the class is both informative and fun. You won't be disappointed if you take this class.
I took her American Literature class this semester. She was awesome! She was one of the best instructors I have ever had. Really funny person and very interesting to listen to. Her lectures always had such interesting stories and connections that it made class something to look forward to. She was great!
This class was online, and the outline was proved with each due date which are heavily inflicted. Discussion point and responses are expected and are the main grading point. The class was self-explanatory and easy to get an A. The final is a paper but it isn't difficult. The final is a must to finish the class.
This online class requires you to watch a movie, make a long discussion post, read a chapter (or a whole book), and respond to peers' posts each week. It's a lot of work but it is very manageable. I got 100% on every post even if I didn't try my absolute hardest. If you try, it is pretty easy to get an A.
Film analysis was easy but a lot of work. You are graded on 14 posts (~500 words) and a 5-7 pg final paper & weekly responses. You have to watch the movies and her videos and readings in order to succeed. She is available to answer questions by email. Fairly easy grader. Downside is that you have to read books as well. Follow the calendar!
Dr. Moore is an amazing teacher. She is very easy to get along with. She makes it super clear on her expectations. We had to write four essays. She lets us work on the essays in class. I highly suggest her to everyone. Easy class, no stress at all. Very laid back.
Really easy class. Just write a discussion post and reply every week, and do a 5-7 page paper at the end. Do everything you will get an A.
Professor Moore is one of my favorite professors right now. At first she can come off a bit intimidating, but she understands that everyone is here to learn and thats what she does, she teaches very well and though the final 15 page paper seems intimidating, we go through a lot of workshopping as a group. I highly reccomend her class!
A fantastic teacher for writers/film majors that love to go beyond the "What is". She focuses on the "Why is" and my writing has improved a lot from her class. I would definitely recommend, especially for honors students that are used to following a formula--she helped me break out of it and encouraged creativity in my writing
I took Prof. Moore's online Intro to Film Art class, and I really enjoyed it! For our class, she only assigned discussion boards for each movie (2 Movies per unit/week). Each DB has to be at least 500+ words. While some of the movies weren't my favorite, I felt that I was able to learn a lot. You can also find the textbook online for free!
