AWESOME!!!
Yes she is a great teacher, very helpful too... If you need this class, grab this teacher if you can.
Simply extraordinary!!! Professors with her intelligence, energy, and enthusiasm for teaching are rare. For a mandetory course we ALL have to take. Michelle made coming to class enjoyable. Hard to consider for a Math class...Math teachers should show the spirit this teacher shows about Math. Definately the best prof so far in courses I've taken.
Not a good prof for people who are weak at math. She expects you to know and understand her material very fast. When you go to her office hours, she always has an "why don't you understand this?" attitude. Bad exam preparation as she expects you to know it. The homework and exam is totally different material. Buy the coursepack and study it.
she's a good professor. her notes are clean and useful, and her midterms arent extremely difficult, but at the same time they cover everything that is needed. She's kind in her office hours and is willing to meet whenever you are available. if you get to take this course with her, consider yourself lucky: the other professors suck.
Michelle was organized and clear. Her notes were more than enough to not need the textbook and her midterms and assignments reinforced concepts and made the final easy
Michelle was wonderfully helpful and captivating throughout the course. She sincerely cared about how her students did and explained all the concepts very clearly. Unfortunately, she screwed us for the final. Not used to teaching stats, she made the midterms much easier and 75% of the material on the Final was based on the last week or so of class.
Michelle is a really nice prof. She teaches at a pace that ensures everyone will grasp the concept before she moves on to a new topic. She is very helpful in office hours especially with midterm and final review. If you don't do the 'sets' in the course pack you won't do well in this course. Only 3 assignments but they are worth 10% together.
Amazing teacher, Michelle actually made it so i could understand Calculus which means a lot considering , i hate math and in the last 4 math classes i took i got 4 D's, MUST HAVE MATH TEACHER i went from D's to a B !!!
Very good instructor. If you attend class you will leave with a good set of notes to review and she actually takes the time to explain everything in clear english. Her assignments are not ridiculously hard compared to most of UVic math profs. It's good because you can learn the material without those frustrating 10+ hour assignments. Tests are fair
Michelle was an awesome statistics teacher! Her office hours were super helpful, and she would stick around until late to make sure her students felt ready for the tests. She explains concepts nicely and really cares about her students. Definitely recommend her!
Other then the fact that she was late to almost all of the normal lectures, she taught the course rather well. She gave lots of examples that made everything easy to learn. All of the quizzes, midterms, and the final were all fair and marked just as fairly. She also did a pretty good job making her lectures interesting.
Michelle is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had! Simplifies stats to an extreme and goes at a pace some would call too slow, but she just really makes sure everyone understands every concept really clearly. Textbook is unnecessary. Just do practice questions in the course supplement (which she posts online so you don't need to buy it).
she is kind and sweet, easy exam, she responded every final exam question email as she promised, even though it was 2 am. highly recommended!
Michelle is hands down the best math professor I've ever had. She simplified concepts to the point they were easily understood with a little practice. I wish she taught 200, and 204. If your a genius and understand difficult math concepts very easily, then Michelle may seem a little 'slow' in lectures, but for the rest of this it's amazing!
I don't think you could find a better math teacher - you can tell she's really organized and has put a ton of effort and thought into how to clearly explain all of the concepts introduced in her course. If you have to take calculus definitely get into her class.
She is one of the greatest professors that I have ever had the chance to meet. She is always there to help and will spend as however long with you in order to make sure that you understood. She is slightly slow but she is extremely thorough. The quizzes and exams are all based on the online homework and there are no surprises. She was a blessing!
Michelle is the best. Has this soothing voice and straightforward demeanor that makes math seem doable. Unlike many math teachers, Michelle teaches tough calc concepts in such a way that truly is sympathetic to the fact that students are seeing this stuff for the first time. Jump at the chance at taking a course with her.
Michelle is definitely the best math prof I have ever met in Uvic. Super friendly and super helpful with the course material as she always stays longer after the lecture to answer you questions. She is also very clear with what you are going to be tested. Overall, love her, and her lectures are sweat as candies. 1000 % recommended to everyone !!!!!
She is an excellent professor who's notes cannot be beat. Will be sure to take courses with her again.
Great prof-highly recommend. She's always happy to help and is probably the best math teacher I've ever had.
Overall did a great job explaining concepts, though she tends to call the numbers and symbols in statistics "these guys" a lot, which annoyed me. However, if you can handle that she teaches really well, and is FANTASTIC outside of class during help centre hours. Put in an effort and she recognizes it.
Awesome math professor! She really cares and goes above and beyond to help. She explains concepts well and makes sure everyone understands. Sometimes she oversimplifies things which I found confusing (ex, calling variables "inside and outside" instead of "f and g"). Overall she was wonderful and I highly recommend. Thanks Michelle!
Michelle is the best intro math/stat prof. Gives so many resources and teaches exactly what you need to master the course. Highly recommended.
I've actually had her for STAT 255 (and MATH 101 a few years ago) and on both occasions she was great. Midway through the semester for STAT 255 I had to have surgery and missed a few weeks and she emailed me copies of all the notes I missed. A great prof who is clearly willing to go the extra mile to help students. One of 2 times I've left a review
She is one of the best professors at UVic. If you're thinking about taking it, TAKE IT! She explained concepts/questions so well. Her tests were easy because she told us exactly what to expect. Do the assignments and you will do well. The practice midterms were the same as the exams. I'm not the best at math and I got an A+. Thanks Dr. Edwards!
Good lectures and cares about her students, but the assignments she assigns us in this class are way too hard for the types of examples she gives us in class.
Good teacher, excellent explanations and concise well laid out notes. Course was steady but manageable. Would definitely take another course with her!
Great!! Very efficient professor. Her teaching combined with the course notes are enough to get a good mark if you work hard.
Michelle goes above and beyond. The assignments aren't easy but if you go to her office hours, she cares more about your understanding than about keeping the right answers from you, which is one of the things that makes her so great. Attend lectures and do past quizzes and finals and you're golden. Michelle's one of the best!
Super nice bean but likes to tease with pop quizzes. Assignments are a lot tougher than the quiz. Her office hours are helpful. Keep your eye on due dates and quiz dates to study ahead of time. The amount of effort you put into this course will dictate your grade, guaranteed.
Michelle is a great professor who cares a lot about making the course as good as possible, assignments are very hard but if you go see her office hours she helps you a lot.
Michelle is an awesome prof. I suck at anything math/stats related yet her lectures made concepts way easier to understand than I thought was possible. The weekly assignments are very useful practice and so is the course supplement book. If you don't practice, you probably wont do well. So, practice & go to her office hours - she's so nice!
Michelle is a godsend. Everything is super well explained, and she's super clear about the exact types of questions that will be used on assignments and exams. She's probably the most accessible prof I've ever had. Not gonna lie, I was not to happy about having to take more math for my degree, but as long as she's the prof, I'm happy to do so.
Michelle is one of the most clear professors I've had yet. Her explanations are extremely thorough and understandable. She provides lots of practice questions, and is very responsive to her emails. If you struggle with math/stats, and you have the choice, take STAT 255 with Michelle!!
Michelle was honestly the best prof I've had at uvic! She is a rare prof who actually really cares about her students and provides very detailed clear notes and explains all the concepts very well. If you have a choice of taking stats with her 100% do it! Stats can normally be a very hard course but taking this with Michelle makes it much easier!
a real gem <3
Dr. Edwards has made STAT 255 very manageable and enjoyable. She is a great prof with clear, detailed lectures. It is obvious that she cares about her students, and she wants everyone to succeed. With the course being online, she held office hours two times/week and answered discussion board questions very quickly. Can't recommend her enough!!
Dr. Michelle Edwards is a fantastic professor! She is always available to help and takes the time to make sure you fully understand a concept. She makes you feel like you matter and that she wants you to succeed. Best professor I have ever had. I can't recommend her enough!
Quizzes, assignments and midterms perfectly reflect the lecture material (no surprises!). She clearly cares about her students - has frequent office hours and answers every question posted in the discussion boards.
Michelle was a great instructor and the class was structured very well to have content clear! The lecture content was always explained very well and in a way that most people could follow which was very accommodating. Each week she would give reminders of weekly coverage with other reminders everywhere which made the class very easy to schedule!
Dr. Edwards is a solid choice for any math course. Very thorough in her lecture notes and it directly relates to the homework. There's normal homework every week plus some super easy in class assignments due the next day. I would take any class Dr. Edwards teaches.
By far the best prof I had this semester. Content was super clear and she was very quick to answer discussion forum questions. She talks slowly and is very thorough. Exams were fair and she was very clear about what was going to be tested. All classes should deliver content online the way she did. She was simply amazing.
This is probably one of the most difficult profs I have had to deal with at UVic. I have taken STAT 255 twice now since the first time Michelle wrongfully accused me of plagiarism on a midterm. I have now completed the entire course once again. Michelle is the slowest prof for returning grades and is almost impossible to be contacted via email.
Michelle is my Jesus. She is hands down the best prof I have ever had. Material is difficult but she works though detailed problems and explains very well. She is very kind and compassionate. This is the first time I haven't hated online school
I have taken 2 classes with Michelle now. She's really good at explaining concepts and answering questions both in class and on forums etc. She goes through the material slow so you never fall behind and the tests and assignments are very fair
Michelle Edwards really cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. I was really scared of STATS because everyone always said the course was really tough. I thought she did an amazing job with lectures and teaching. The assignments and notes were very clear and well done. Midterms were also very fair.
Amazing prof
Michelle is such a great teacher. She goes over everything slowly and everything she does is very organized which is AMAZING. We had an assignment before each midterm so we were always prepared. She does go through material pretty slowly tho so we fell behind schedule.
Michelle is a great prof, and really adapted well to the online environment. All her lecture videos were pre-recorded, making them super easy to go through at 2x speed (she talks a little slow). Her lecture videos/notes were super helpful and in-depth. Only criticism is it takes a while to get some marks back. If you can though, take her class!
Michelle is more like a teacher than a prof. She clearly knows what she is talking about, and instead of making the tests cryptic, they are very straightforward if you do the notes and homework. 5 stars would take again, great prof.
Michelle was an amazing teacher to have for Stats. Starting University stats was one of the classes I was most nervous with, but she throughly explains everything and is exceptionally sweet and understanding.
Really good explanations, fair testing and grading, and really good in office hours as well. It felt like the course could've been way harder than it was, and a lot of the reason it was easy was the quality of her instruction.
Michelle is a kind person, and she is great at explaining the concepts that she is teaching. She handled covid better than many other profs; having prerecorded lectures as a backup and clear guidelines on what would happen if you had to miss a midterm was a relief. My only complaint is that it takes a long time to get marks back.
Dr. Edwards is amazing. This is hands-down the best online course I've taken thus far. I've had her as a prof in-person and online, she's detailed with explanations and clear with expectations. Lots of assignments for practice, which makes the course easier to keep up with. Best prof to take stats with if you need it, in-person or otherwise.
Amazing prof. she really cares about her students :)
Best math prof I have ever had. She is 10/10 caring and understanding, knows stats stuff really well, has a great brightspace layout with videos if you miss the class, and is really detailed in her explanations! I will also add that she is NOT condescending and responds to emails/discussion posts better than other profs I've had. Great tests too!
Professor Edwards explained concepts well, however, she spent too much time on simple topics and then was rushed at the end of the course so we didn't even finish. She often tried to cram content and slip examples at the end of the course and took a ridiculous amount of time to provide feedback on written assignments and tests.
Really makes sure there is enough time for every student to understand the material. This was my 2nd class I've taken from Michelle and I love her teaching style. This was also the 2nd time I've taken a stats class at this school, failed the first one because I didn't take Michelles class, had no trouble learning the material from her though.
Having a lecture on Wednesday and taking a hard quiz on it the next day? Really? Lectures are boring and not helpful since it is just going through the notes slowly. The filled-in notes are not available online. Poor communication- still waiting for an email back from months ago. Very slow grader- weeks before seeing your quizzes back.
Work thru the notes & course supp for each exam for a guaranteed A (lots of studying but easy if you can memorize formats of questions and identify key words). Exam q's formatted exactly like the course supp so no surprises. Also, the last sets you work thru are hard so try your best early on. Overall, she's so sweet and helpful at office hours.
Professor Edwards had very thorough, well-prepared lectures and made all the concepts easy to understand. She was super helpful, kind and approachable. She gave us access to pre written notes and also provided us with lots of practice problems and tests which really helped me excel in this class.
Michelle is awesome. She goes through the material slowly and really explains concepts thoroughly. This for some may be too slow and tedious but personally, I like it when concepts are fully explained. She is super nice and genuinely cares about people. I had to take this class as a prerequisite, but I'd definitely have her as a prof. again.
AMAZING prof. Really happy she's teaching Math222 rn. I really wished if I have taken math 222 with her. Anyway I really hope if she can teach upper level math courses because we need teachers who know how to teach and put a lot of effort which dr. Edwards is amazing at. Definitely deserves a teaching award.
Provided textbook for free, lots of follow along fill in the blank notes. Easy to review, but the notes cannot be filled in outside of class. Class feels more like a tutorial than a perspective-changing lecture but lectures are still not too bad. Would take again.
She is great. Lectures were not mandatory but very useful so do not miss any of them. She made materials very clear during the lecture so if you attend you don't need to spend a lot of time studying this course out of class.
Michelle is the absolute best of the uvic math department. She gives clear, easy-to-follow lectures and provides all material ahead of time. The crowdmark questions are an easy way to boost your mark and gauge understanding. The content gets much harder as you go so do well on the first half of the sets. Exams presented no surprises.
Michelle was a super effective and helpful prof. She explains concepts super clearly and is very straightforward with what she wants you to know for the exams.
THE GOAT
One of the best professors (and instructor in general) I've ever had. Actually focuses on teaching you material and testing the skills she has taught. Clearly enjoys what she is teaching and puts a lot of effort into making lectures digestible. Reading the book isn't even required, the lectures are that good.
great teacher just overexplains stuff sometimes, which can make lectures drag a bit. other than that great teacher
amazing instructor; takes a lot of time to explain concepts in a straightforward way and completes enough examples during classtime to really get it, highly recommend
The length of the homework assignments is actually ridiculous. She regularly assigns homework with 30-40 subparts due in one week. Her tests always leave you strapped for time. Our 50-minute midterm was ten questions long (majority of the qs had subparts). Marking times are horrifically long: we haven't got our last midterm back before the final.
Probably one of the best profs I have had so far, and will have in my university career. I can't think of a single con. Michelle runs the course very well. Lectures are professional and helpful, assignments and quizzes are organized in a way that is easy to follow and keep up with.
she's super fun and makes the content really easy to understand, kind of like a kindergarten teacher
The material isn't easy but post-secondary is not easy, and it requires a lot of hardwork, self-discipline and motivation. As an instructor (and human-being) she doesn't care for the well-being, time, energy and the money sacrificed from students. She is also unaccommodating to the students with disabilities and learning accessibility needs.
Simply amazing prof, teaches very slow but that is to make sure everyone can follow, very approachable and gives very clear explanations, all her lectures are also very clear. Attend lectures properly and do all the assignments sincerely and practice the material she recommends and you will surely get an A+.
Michelle is absolutely great at explaining stats concepts and keeping things concise as well as relevant to the audience she's lecturing to. If something is a useful fact to know but not relevant to the testable course material, she will explicitly state it and is always a huge help to all students who ask her anything.
Michelle is wonderful! She explains concepts well and cares about students. The course is also amazingly well run with lots of practice tests available. Each week alternates with an assignment or in class quiz. There are in class assignments, but this year we had until midnight that night to do them so it was ok. I actually really liked this class.
While I didn't like STAT255 as a class (just found it boring to be honest) I can definitely say Dr. Edwards is an incredible prof. Not once in this class did I feel lost or confused. She does a great job at explaining topics. Wish I could have had her for a more engaging class.
michelle was by far the best prof i have had so far. she takes time to make sure all students fully understood the materials, and i never walked out of lecture confused. shes such a sweet person and is open to answer any questions you may have in much detail. lots of homework, but homework that was beneficial to the exams. bravo!
I loved this class, Michelle clearly puts a lot of effort into the materials accessed outside of lecture and does a very good job of explaining concepts in a concise consistent manner. The supplement book was a awesome to have for practice and all of the filled out notes are posted onto bright space. She clearly cares a lot and her effort shows it.
I took her for both Math 122 and Stats 255. I loved her. Her fill-in-the-blank notes worked really well and she never made us feel pressed for time. For stats, I found the assignments, midterms and final very fair. Math 122 is a harder class, the assignments were long and required lots of assistance but if you reach out, she cares and helps you.
Michelle was one of the best professors I've had at university! Her lectures are so clear and the examples in class were similar to the assignments and midterms. Fair grading. Super accessible outside of class time. Explained concepts so clearly.
She does not care about the well-being about students. Her marking was very unfair, and would take off marks for not writing them in sentence format although her exams were numerical answers only. Her tests are 50 minutes and are usually around 6-7 pages long with multiple parts to each question impossible to finish within the given time.
Michelle is the best professor I've had in my 3 years of undergrad, and that is not a joke. She is extremely organized: Her lecture notes are easy to follow, she posts assignments on time, she manages the discussion chat in Brightspace on a timely manner. I am constantly impressed with how much work she does for this class. There's many positives!!
Her notes are really comprehensive
Not approachable & she is inconsistent when I asked for help. Tests are long and hard to complete in 50 mins. It would be better if she was more forgiving and kinder to her students.
Test 1 was difficult in terms of a time crunch, but other than that, she had very detailed notes and was inspiring.
The tests were very hard and included some material barely covered in class, and were nearly impossible to finish in the allotted 50 minutes. In-class notes are not posted to Brightspace and lectures are not recorded so you can't really miss class, and all she does in class is go through example problems very fast.

Great prof. I was apprehensive to take this class because I did poorly in pre-cal 12 and that was my last time taking a math class, but the course went so much better than expected. Concepts are explained clearly and if you actually go to class and do the recommended practice the tests really aren't that hard.
Literally the best professor for math. She is so passionate about her work and really wants to help you reach your goal. Dr. Michelle Edwards has always answered even the most stupid questions, she is very professional and quick to respond to emails when u have any kind of problem. She is great
Great prof and engaging lectures where she taught the material very well. Only knock I have for her is not supplying filled in notes. I understand she is trying to get people to come to lectures but sometimes it was hard to keep up with the notes, especially if you dont have those ipads that make it easy to write math. Would recommend overall tho.
Michelle Edwards is by far the best prof at UVic. She teaches everything super in depth, kind of like we're in elementary school, but it makes the content incredibly easy to understand. I had an incident come up when I was in her class, and she was the only prof to respond to my email in a caring and compassionate way. I LOVE HER!!!!!
Really good prof overall, explained stuff better than 99% of profs I've encountered.
Michelle Edwards is the best math professor at UVic. She does an incredible job at explaining things, makes the class super easy. Hard to make math interesting but she does a great job at teaching.
She's amazing! She provides lecture notes ahead of time that makes it easy to take your own notes in class. She really wants you to succeed and she's always willing to answer questions.
She is extremely nice & thorough, but is unable to fully explain difficult concepts. I taught myself all the units and did really well, but feel as though I would've struggled if I relied solely on her lectures. At least she tries to be helpful and is always available to answer questions. Beware of the first midterm-- it has a failing average.
She is one of the best professors I've met before!!! And it is super easy to get an A.
I love Dr. Edwards teaching style. It is very slow, thorough, and she provides fill in the blank notes (extremely helpful!). Some people think she teaches too slow, but I find it is a refreshing break from other hyper profs. She makes sure to go at a pace where most students can easily keep up. She is very sweet and I really enjoyed her lectures.
Basically the best average professor you can get. Nothing to complain about at all, but also nothing super outstanding. Would definitely recommend her over most professors though.
Michelle's lecture notes were very helpful, and her explanations of concepts were pretty good. The homework assignments for this course were not hard, but very long. The tests were quite similar. I would definitely recommend taking 222 with Michelle!
I actually love this woman, her GOATness is underrated. If you can take her at UVic please do, she's an amazing professor. It's hard to not understand and do well if you attend classes. She likes to answer questions which made learning so much easier for me and I'm so grateful to have had her
