Michelle is a wonderful teacher. She helps you to understand better the ideas of sign language and the deaf culture. If you are thinking about taking sign language over spanish because it counts now, DO IT! I had spanish in high school and now wish I could have counted sign language it is much more exciting and a lot easier!

Mrs. Freas is an amazing professor! She is so helpful and really just loves to be there for her students. Her tests are challenging but if you know your ASL terms then it won't be hard for you. Her office hours are always open and she is always willing to help however she can. If you can get her, take her!

Tough class because I had a different ASL 1 teacher. they had different teaching styles. She had office hours and worked with me. I loved the class and found her to be a great teacher. My one warning is to start ASL and finish with the same teacher because it matters.

I really enjoyed this class. i took it online. every week you have a discussion, guided questions or a reaction paper. if you read the textbook and her notes and watch her lecture videos youll do fine. there is a research paper/project that you have to do but if you pick a topic that youre re interested in, it should be easy.

She is one of the nicest teachers ever! The material is pretty easy as long as you practice and she has videos that help. Showing up to class is important because it really helps you practice and there are some signs that might not be in her notes. She is very understanding and you'd have to be extremely lazy not to pass. Take her!

She is literally the best prof I've ever had. I took ASL 1-3 with her and never got below an A. She's extremely caring and wants her students to learn. She even helped me get a scholarship to take ASL 4 when I couldn't afford it. On top of that, she really encouraged to pursue ASL as a career. I absolutely adore her. You won't regret taking her!

This class is very straight-forward, as all the work and content is easy to comprehend & complete. I ended up loving this class because even though the work is easy, it is actually very interesting & made me eager to learn more in the deaf culture. There are discussions & little assignments weekly, 3 tests, 1 Final test, PP project, & 3 page essay.

Ms. Freas is one of my all-time favorite professors. She makes sure you know about the deaf community in addition to the language so you're well-informed, and she also shows you why it's such an important language. I loved it so much I changed my career path to be ASL-inclusive because of her.

She uses ASL throughout the lecture and mouths it slightly if she starts signing fast. If you watch her videos, you will be fine and they are very clear. Don't let some projects sneak up on you. They are simple once you break them down. There is minimal to no talking allowed, so be prepared to sign the words you learn. Go back to unit 1 to review.

Freas is a great teacher. She made ASL easy to learn and does a wonderful job teaching about the Deaf community and its culture. 6 absences before a penalty, final project video is recorded (not in class) and the rest of the grade comes from exams, quizzes (participation) and tutor visits. It is a participation heavy course, but well worth it.
