she is very helpful when I needed her help. Her test are very challenging but if you study you will be fine. She is very clear in class. She is not strict, if you did your part in and outside of class. Overall she is a great professor.
Gaston is a great professor, the notes in class are fill in the blanks and her grading is fair. If you stay after class she will answer all your questions. Be warned though her tests are difficult and class reviews don't really prepare you for exams.
Professor Gaston is a wonderful but a pretty challenging professor. She gives great notes for the students to study from. But don't get tricked too early. When studying for the tests, make sure to study all of the entire packets, because the exams are long and require a lot of study. The great thing about Gaston is no final you do wellonthe4Exams.
Professor Gaston is a wonderful professor. She gives you notes to copy them down and to study from them. It will some studying to get an A in this class, a little less in getting a B, but it's always important to get a good on the first test in this class.
Great Professor! Her classes are well structured around her notes; which generally follow the text. Make sure you understand most if not all of material. This class will take a good effort on your part. She is very helpful, may award bonus pts on most exams and other assignments. Doesnt really review, important to attend classes.
OMG!! WHAT A WONDERFUL TEACHER! I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMEND HER. The course is demanding but you must be up for studying and putting forth the effort. Dr. Gaston is exellent though!!
Dr. Gaston is a great professor. Her class isn't easy, but it's not too difficult either. If you put in the time to study you'll do well. She wants you to succeed.
I had Dr. Gaston for Nas 161 and I could not recommend her more! She gives great daily handouts, reviews for quizzes, supplies a detailed study guide for exams and is willing to help any student with any of the material. This is a difficult class and she could not make it any easier to understand or follow. Attend and study, you will do great.
Dr.Gaston is the best she cares about how you do and your success. If you have a question just go to her and ask she will make sure that you understand everything. If you want a teacher who cares about your grade just like you take her class and..oh ya she gives great notes.
She is an amazing teacher! This is the best class I've ever taken at NOVA. She is clear, concise, easy to understand and always helpful. I could not recommend a teacher more!
Great Teacher. To the point and lets you know what you have to, should know and can apply to every day life. It is not the most structured class but , in itself, is a strength because she adjusts the class to the students abilities to learn. She is also a very lenient person and caring person. Shell always try to help. Dont play her though...
Great teacher! She gives you a helpful outline but take great notes in class. Study the end of chapter outline and c.think questions. Her test is very hard, you have to study. Do well on the first 2 test, give yourself breathing room.
A really nice and fun teacher. went over answers to quizzes right before taking them. but she also wants her students to learn the subject..
This a really hard course.. don't even think to take this classes in summer! you will need to be ready to study allot and dedicate FULL time for this course. Every week you will have a quiz, homework..and study at least 10 hrs for each test.If you want to prove to you self that you can do anything take this class! but if you are taking other classe
Great Professor. This is a very hard class but she gives you all the tools you need to get an A including a clear, concise lecture, notes online, study guides, bonus questions, and extra credit.Quiz every week, but easy if you just review the notes. Drop lowest quiz and test score. Based on what I hear I am convinced she is the best for 161
take her she's is very good professor. easy to understand. study her powerpoint, test comes straight from the Powerpoint. goes over everything before giving exam.
Awsome Professor!!! Clear notes for every class posted prior to class so you can look over material. Lots of BONUS questions. Very helpful outside of classroom, if you need her to expand on a topic, she is more than willing to explain. I only wish she was teaching NAS 162. She is overall the BEST professor I have ever had for class!
Great professor! BUT im telling you that you gotta study very VERY hard to pass this class if you want an 'a' or a 'b'.
These good rating are all FAKE.I talked my class-mates and only 20% of them passed her class.TAKE HER CLASS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
The class is hard, a lot to learn... she goes into lots of DETAIL on every system so much so that its too overwhelming... if you study hard you might be able to get a B on the exams... over all I would say ITS HARD TO GET AN A, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO SETTLE FOR B.

Very good professor in that shes clear in her lectures. If you want to learn take her class. Exams are on the harder side but weekly quizzes help keep you on track.
Good professor. Even if you don't know any biology, she makes the class fun and exciting. She is also easy to understand. I would highly recommend her. Easy extra credits too.
Best Professor in NOVA. 161 & 162 are very hard classes but she is very helpful.. Take her, you wont regret. Her personality is also awsome!
Study her PowerPoint?s for exams, lab quizzes and in class quizzes and you will do fine. Her study guides are clear and you will not need a textbook (everything you need to know is in her PP?s.) She gives easy extra credit, and the few homework assignments she assigns are not particularly hard. Great professor!
She is really hard. Her exams are also very hard and lengthy. She goes into lot of details. Unfortunately I had to withdraw her class. Because it is not possible to get A or B in her class. I would not recommend her.
Gaston is difficult, but is extremely willing to work with you in helping you to understand the material. STUDY all of the powerpoints and notes, because she relies heavily on them for her tests, which are difficult. And be sure to attend class - it's almost impossible to learn what you missed, since she moves pretty quickly. Good professor.
an amazing teacher! made the subj easy to understand & interesting! grade is based on quizes tests & extra crdt. Lotssss of notes from PP. Start studing as soon as study guide is posted and you'll get a good grade. & an A is not imposible, I have a 2 yr. old = busy mom, but still managed to get an A.see her if you have ?s she will help!!
Amazingly clear and helpful. not a heavy reliance on the book, really dont need it at all. watch her PP presentations and you are golden!
Very easy if you pay attention
I agree she is not that easy but very clear. Do ur job, take quizzes and tests. can drop one quiz, one of 3tests. total 4tests w/ final. She gives extra credits too, so Hang on. Again, It is not easy but extremely helpful.
She is great! Very clear notes and lectures. Clear study guides before exams, just keep on study it, you will be fine. Great personality, too.Willing to help students. I love this professor.
Decent professor. Her lectures aren't too engaging (you basically just sit and listen). Her exams are basically comprised of the lecture notes, so take good notes and you'll be fine. Occasionally there is online homework, which is easy to forget about.
She is one of the best professors. She gives mostly weekly quizes, that are not hard, but are great because they make you study for the exams. The exams are based off the notes and she tells you what the exams comprise of in the review. The people who say she is a bad or a hard teacher may not have tried. Study and work hard and you will be fine!
loved her class very clear and organized and easy to understand soft spoken but she will not hold your hand while u learn
She is a very kind teacher and very helpful. The only reason people would say her exams are difficult is if they do not study the material as much. She posts notes online which are helpful and necessary to help study off the study guides she provides.
Great professor. She is organized and if things are not clear to you she helps you. The quizzes given every week are helpful. She answers questions and makes her class interesting. I recommend taking her class.
Idk where every one got they're ratings for this professor she's a nice lady but I was just on the deans list and now I'm failing this class. She crams a lot of information in such a short period of time. There is a quiz every week and exams sometimes twice a week. Not everyone can comprehend that fast.
Great teacher, one of the best I've ever had. She explains things very clearly. Very easy going manner. She's very helpful. Her notes and lectures are much clearer than the textbook. Her quizzes, which I thought were easy, help you to stay on your toes so you'll do better on the tests. Her tests can be difficult if you didn't study.
A ton of information is given in a class and you are expected to know it all by the next class (approx. 3 chapters)which doesn't seem bad until you see the text. You need to know every detail. The next class she will cram another 3 chapters in so be ready. Lab is a joke. She sits and does nothing. This isn't med school it's BIO 141. Get a grip!
This class is challenging if you pay attention in class and study hard you will do well but if you slack for one day you will definitely get off track. She gave out quizzes every week and she gave out homework most of the time. She did well answering questions and she will help you if you don't understand she's great teacher she's just challenging.
very helpful professor.wants everyone to understand the material not just memorize it.gives quizzes every week which help stay on your toes with the class..must attend class if not you will fall behind..don't really need the textbook since she posts notes for each chapter which are directly from the textbook. Exams come directly from lecture+notes
Come to class, pay attention, self motivate your lab work, and study to do well. Her tests are long, but the regular quizzes will prepare you for most of it. In lab, actually do the experiments, they always show up as extra credit questions.
Professor Gaston is a great teacher. She is very helpful and answers all the necessary questions. She is overall a nice person. How well you do in this class depends on the effort you put in. Its a lot of information so a ton of studying and memorization. That being said, it is not impossible and if you work hard you will do great.
Truly knows how to teach; reminds me of that tough but excellent grade school science teacher we've all had. Actually wants to be in class, and expects you to as well. Knowledgeable. Drills students a little bit to make sure they remember certain points. Wants you to do well if you want to do well. Likes talking to students. Tough about excuses.
Challenging class made enjoyable by good professor. Professor Gaston was perfect balance of tough and helpful. You have to make an effort but she wants you to do well and gives you plenty of opportunites to do so. Pleasant demeanor. I liked this professor and learned a lot.
No matter who you take, this class will be hard. It requires a lot of extra studying, if you do not study, you will not pass. I enjoyed Dr. Gaston, she knows what she is talking about and is really willing to help you. Labs are pretty much on your own but she will answer any questions while you work through it.
Ok about Prof Gaston, I took her in the fall of 215 after reading the reviews here. she is nothing like whats said here. she is strict, not just teacher strict, she makes it look like its a military class. She literally made me hate the class. she knows her material though. HEY DON 'T EXPECT ANY THING IN THE LAB. her lab sucks. got my first B.
The ruddest Instructor that we ever seen. Not helpful, mean and grades so hard.
You really have to study to get an a, but you most likely are taking this class because you're going into the health sciences so you really need to know these things! Anyone you take for bio 141 or 142 is going to be relatively hard because it is a lot of info to learn. She is super nice and really seems to care about the students.
She is a really good professor, just keep up with the notes and classes. If you have a question she will really help you understand. She is extremely knowledgeable and is a really good teacher.
Science classes have always been hard for me and yet I was able to A this one. Her class is tough but she's really helpful. Study the class notes she gives you, the test is on that. Ask/email her SPECIFIC questions, go to her office hours, do your part. She gives really good EC, take advantage of it! (35ptslastsemester). I highly recommend her!
I had her for BIO 141. It was a 5 week class and she did amazing job keeping us on task without skipping a lot of information. She is a great lecturer! I am usually someone who tunes out after 30 minutes into a lecture but she keeps her students engaged. Lots of extra credit! Exams were very reasonable. Book not necessary, highly recommended.
I took Prof. Gaston for BIO 141 for 8 week, she was very informative and kept lecture simple, i know there alot of info to take in but just make some time and you'll be fine. Head up study the bones and muscle cause there in no way you can cram that in a week span before taking the test. She Gives out 40 extra credit 20 for lab and lecture
I took Dr. Gaston for Bio 142. It was an 8 week course. She is very knowledgeable and have a great way of teaching the information so that you are able to remain focused during the entire lecture. She is also very organized with her assignments and tests. She provides a study guide for lecture exams and lab exams, which is very helpful.
Dr. Gaston is good, but not amazing. Pros- breaks down tough topics, makes it easy to understand; subject is difficult but her tests are fair, expectations realistic; TONS of extra credit points. Cons- no expertise to explain subject beyond class material, can't answer Why questions, just says I dont know; doesnt teach anything in lab unless asked.
Dr. Gaston is a wonderful professor. She is very personable, very patient, and super helpful with everything. She finds ways to explain the same thing in different ways to assure everyone understands the material. Tons of extra credit and extra grades to ensure that everyone has a fair chance at passing. Exams are straight off the study guide.
Biology won't be easy no matter what professor you have. I liked Michelle because she gives a lot of extra credit and she lets us know exactly what to expect on the tests. She will tell you to study for the bones and muscle test on day one. I suggest you do, the muscle test is actually very hard. The lectures are very long by the way.
This is a tough class that requires a lot of studying! Dr. Gaston is great, she breaks down difficult concepts and does her best to keep it simple. Read the chapters BEFORE class, go to class, study and do the extra credit. Dr. Gaston is very patient with her students and will help you be successful. Put the effort in and you will be successful!
Makes anatomy & physiology really easy to understand. Gives lots of extra credit in lab & lecture. Gives everything you need to get an A. Took her 8 week bio 141 & 142 and its a fast course but worth it. Tests come straight from her study guides. Take her!!
Anatomy & physiology is a hard class in general, but Michelle makes it easy to understand and gives so much extra credit. Tests come mostly from her study guides. Gives you everything you need to get an A
Professor Gaston breaks Human Anatomy down in a way of being able to understand. She explains in detail, and if you don't understand she will explain in other ways. Gives extra credit. She also allows mastering assignments to be done to replace the lowest test score. She is just awesome!!!
Dr. Gaston has my been my favorite professor in college ever. She's just a great person all around and will help you with whatever you need to be successful in the class. If you do the work, you will pass! Go to class, do the work and you will be fine! Also, DO THE MASTERING ASSIGNMENTS! I have taken a bunch of her classes because I love her a lot.
She's helpful when she wants to be but she could work on her patience a little. She can be a bit of a smart you know what. Bio is not easy and some people either forget how difficult it was wen they were learning or it came easy for them. I stopped going to her class & took the class again with another Professor who was patient and got an A.
Took the first 6-week Bio 141 with her and its totally passable, she replaces one test grade with the mastering homework, and her lab quizzes and lecture tests are passable with studying. Not as bad as i expected
If you go to a 4 year college & want to take Anatomy and Phys at community college, this is the right professor for you. Lecture is 3 exams, and one exam gets replaced with Mastering homework if you choose. she has extra credit at the end, basically free test points added. Her lab also has extra credit, her exams were fair. she is really nice.
Pro Gaston is NOT a teacher. She doe NOTHING in lab -the hardest part of the course. Asked for help, and she asked why was I in the class. Makes the material way harder than necessary. expects you to know everything off the top of your head. I think she enjoys failing students. TAKE ANYONE ELSE!!
Taking Bio 142 online and taking Bio 141 in person is very diff. What I like about her is that she made everything clear on grading and in lectures. It's good to mention that one exam gets replace by mastering which is soo nice. Exams questions are very direct just short answers are challenging She's far one of the best also gives extra credit!
This was my first BIO class outside of high school, and on top of that, it was the fall semester of COVID 19. I took her 8 week hybrid course, all online, and I loved it. I looked forward to class every week, and she was always positive and helpful. She provided extra credit opportunities, along with replacing your lowest lecture exam w/ mastering.
Dr. Gaston really gives us every chance to excel in her class. She helps her students do their best. She gives us choices and listens to our feedback. She treats us like responsible adults. This class is organized, straight-forward, quick, fun, usually ends early and a good size class. Do the Mastering A&P and her study guides!
Most everything is on lockdown browser. Gives exam topics for what exactly to study for the exams. Teaches well, but you NEED to study and learn. You HAVE to be able to learn all of the material since its proctored exams and quizzes. Had one extra credit available and allowed us to replace an exam grade with mastering score. One group activity.
She is a good Professor and teaches very well, I learned a lot but is a very tough grader. I took her BIO 141 over the summer online and we would take quizzes everyday. All tests and quizzes are taken on Lockdown browser. She gives a lot of homework and wants you to handwrite or use CamScanner for the homework.
Dr. Gaston was such a good teacher! I loved her lectures and her video lessons were really useful. The only thing was we had a lot of homework, it was a 7 week class so exams were happening every other week which was so overwhelming. Overall, if you pay attention to her, take notes/study, & do her extra credits you should do well!
I dropped the class the second week. The first quiz was all fill in the blank word sentences no word bank 6/8 questions were random fill in the blank this was a quiz over an entire chapter of information. If it was labeling I would understand but like who can memorize a whole text book word for word. She mentioned every test would be like this.
Lectures are a bit heavy; however, she makes them very engaging and also finds different ways for her students to remember things which I think is great. Tests make up most of the grade, but they are pretty straight forward. If you pay attention and put efforts to study, you should do fine. She will switch out a test if you do the Mastering A&P's.
Amazing prof,I was scared of taking anatomy in 6 weeks but she organized everything and ensured we knew exactly everything before the exam. Lots of extra credit and mastering A and P replaces 1st or 2nd lowest exam grade.I would definitely take her again. She explains everything perfectly. Anatomy requires a lot of memorizing and work on your part.
Dr. Gaston is caring and accessible but a weak professor. I've never seen a science class feel so lifeless. She knows the material but doesn't explain it well. Labs lack direction; you're expected to figure things out on your own. Exams are manageable but require a lot of outside-the-box thinking for an introductory class. Provides extra credits.
One of the best professors I've ever had. She's incredibly organized, patient, and genuinely cares about her students. Her exam reviews are spot-on, and if you study them, you'll be fully prepared. She explains tough concepts clearly, makes learning enjoyable, and is always available for help. I'd take her again in a heartbeat! Extra credits too!
I recommend y'all do not take this professor she so mean and doesn't respond on time at all. she thinks students are lying even thought if they miss a day of lab or lecture when you explain to her why you wasn't here that day. she still will not believe it and will give you a zero. she doesn't even do extra credit or make up exams. waste of time
Don't not take this professor she so rude she is grading work assignments late and the test are more harder for lecture and lab please don't take this class. she don't even give extra credit again don't take her class there are a lot of nice professors at the Annandale campus not Alexandria campus...
