Great teacher. Has the right stuff!

Ms Johnson is an amazing teacher. She demands the very best and knows how to guide her students so they produce work that far surpasses any previous efforts. She inspires and motivates us with every class and I find myself working hard and enjoying it.

Michelle Johnson is the most enthusiastic professor I have ever encountered at Sierra. She loves literature, teaching and most importantly her students. She is insightful and knowledgable. She enspired me to pursue a career in writing. She is awseome!

She is a lot of fun and keeps the class interesting. I started the class feeling intimidated with writing, but her class has helped me to enjoy it. If you keep up with her SRs that she assigns and show up to class every day you will ace her class.

I learned a lot, just keep up with the SR's and essays can always be revised, there is not much reading in this class, but the quizzes are questions from the book. I will be taking this professor's English 1A also.

michelle will bend over backwards for you. she really loves her students and really takes it to heart if some one in class is mean to her especially in the poetry class. She is really witty and interesting and sits to the very far left. I have been out of her class for a while now but she still knows my name and talks to me like an old friend.

she was a great teacher. i took her over the summer and i thought it would be so hard because it was my first time taking summer school. i had this class before with a different teacher and i did not understand the teacher and did not pass it. but when i took it with michelle i had furn and understood it and i passed. i recamend her to everyone.

She is super fun and definetly a nut case at the same time! :) She is very easy going but still expects alot from her students. She gives you all the homework assginments in advance and is very open minded and appreciates strong opinions.

She is definately out there. Nice teacher and for an english class it was easy. Class gets to chose their assignments; 4 short 4-8pg essays. There are also numerous 1pg journal writes. What I really liked about her that she didnt grade on your point of view. As long as you support your idea it is ok even if she may dissagree with it, which is rare.

Michelle is a great teacher. She takes the time out and reads yuor work. Her instructions for correction are clear and she makes the class fun. Great teacher! Makes you think beyond what is just written in a work. I had Jerry Fishman for English 1A and he was completely horrible. This class was one of the easienst classes I've ever had compared to Fishman's class. Michelle is fun, helpful, and wants all of her students to succeed. It is an easy and pretty stress free class

I loved Prof. Johnson! She is so funny with a very infectious personality. This class was the highlight of my Fall 09 course load, and as long as you show up and do the work, you'll get a good grade.

Her poetry class is very hands on and participatory. Definitely fun if you enjoy poetry and talking about it. As well as being very easy on the eyes, Michelle is also super nice and helpful. Great class.

I had a hard time getting used to her at first but by the end of the semester I was in love with this professor! She spunky and fun and really enjoys what she teaches. The material she chose was very intresting which made the papers less boring to write. She does expect you to think outside the box so don't half ass your papers! Take her!

I'm blown away with the amount of knowledge she packs in her brain. I can listen to her lecture all day. I loved MAJ!I took her for Eng 1A & 1B!She sets a theme for the class making it easier. About 5 essays per class and weekly discussion mini papers. I did not like MJ at the start of the semester because she gave me mediocre grades on papers I thought were good...and then I realized she was asking more from me because she knew I was capable of it. Once I actually started putting time and effort into my papers, the A's came flying in. She pushes you while still making the class fun. Take her!

My favorite professor!

I loved English coming into this class, but she made me love it even more. She brought clarity to MLA writing, and her classes are so much fun. I'm taking her for all of my other English classes :)

If you don't like teachers who get to know you personally, who grade according to ability, and who are flexible, don't take Michelle. However, if you like all those qualities in a professor, this is the one of your dreams. Turn in your assignments on time and you are guaranteed an A.

If you do what she asks and are willing to put effort into your papers, you should have no problem getting an A.

Her class isn't super easy, but if you actually pay attention and put forth the expected effort there is no reason you wouldn't get an A. I don't know if she has an actual attendance policy, but in class is where she provides clarification on assignments and gives guidance on structuring quality papers. Make use of feedback she writes on your work.

Loved her English class. Just do the work it isn't even hard. There is just 4 major essays and she gives great feedback on your essays and you can make up points.I recommend her and I don't even like English or writing so this class was good for me. She is very funny and class is always fun.

Her poetry class can be extreamly hard for some and also really easy for other. My only advise if you like structure don't take this class if you love to have freedom in your writtening and thoughts take it.

Michael Johnson is truly devoted to her work on campus. Not only did she teach us the English A curriculum but because she is so involved on campus, she kept us up to date on campus events and even offered extra credit if we went to some of them. Finally, the portfolio she had us do in class helped my appeal to move on to English 1A.

I loved Michelle. She loves want does. Her feed back on papers is great, I've never had a teacher that gave me good constructive criticism. But if you're looking for an easy A, then Michelle not your gal. You most definitely need to put an effort into your papers

Michelle is a very excellent professor. The best English teacher I ever had at Sierra College. I never agreed with everything she said, but she never tried to make me feel like I always had to agree with her. In fact she encouraged me to voice out my thoughts. You can make any claim, as long as you back it up or did some research on your claim.

She's a great professor but her grading when it comes to essays is harsh. I'm trying my hardest to get an A but man it's really tough. Be prepared to work hard and read.

From beginning of class to the end you can tell that Maj wants her students to become better writer and thinkers. She is a tough grader, but not unreasonable. Her feedback so are detailed. She's a professor who can prepare you if you're planning to transfer at a university. She's also very funny, gives extra credit, and very helpful.

Keep up in class and you'll pass. Best feedback I've ever received on essays. Caring, compassionate and hilarious. About three reading books required, less than $50, she'll provide most reading material. Participate! About one assignment every week or so, not bad, stay on top of that. Hustled in class, and still had fun!

MAJ is honestly one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. I was by far the youngest in her class (graduated early in college by 16) and I was very nervous for my first "college English" class. But she never once underestimated me, and she led me to success. She gives back amazing feedback and is by far the most crazy woman ever- but I love her!

Michelle grades hard because wants you to understand what you're writing about and answer the SO WHAT aspect of your paper and why it's important. Easily approachable because she wants to HELP YOU! if you do struggle, then go see her during office hours and she will love to help you out! if you can't talk to her and ask for help then don't take it.

MAJ is the kind of professor you want to take if you are thinking about transferring to a four year university or want to learn how to read and write critically. She is the perfect preparation for nursing students and other classes that will require attendance and participation. She seems intimidating but really not. Very helpful.

This girl has passion!! She is a bundle of fun and makes the class laugh. Sometimes she can forget to engage with the class. She gives a TON of feed back on papers. She's a tough grader, but she makes you think. English 1 B is after all a critical theory class. Keeping up with the theme and the reading is a must. I took MAJ for Spring this year, and I am now just seeing the connections we've discussed in class. Take her if you're interested in growing as a writer and thinker.

Taking this course online to fill out a requirement at nearby Davis, highly recommend for anyone looking to think critically about literature at a high level! Not a fan of analyzing literature as I mostly like to read for fun however Prof Johnson gives great feedback and makes it easy to turn in papers of substance. Beware, fast-paced. Ovrl 11/10!

I took Maj's class online, and she was great. Very helpful, always responded to messages, and she was very involved. Do the assigned work, participate in discussion boards and you should be ok. The papers will kill your grade though, her unacceptable errors take off ten points each.

She will be the best teacher that I have ever met. She is very envolved and has passion. She makes you think and see life in a different way. I loved the two classes that I already took.

MAJ is truly wonderful. She is very passionate about what she teaches and is open-minded. She will really get you to think deeper and is great at making connections to the real world. We did have to make a small group presentation about a novel the class was reading, but it was very low-key, nothing to worry about.

She's a tough grader but she wants you to be successful after her class. Taking her class will make every future English paper incredibly easier in the long-run. MAJ is one of the most caring and kindhearted professors on this campus. Her class may be a little tough when it comes to essays, but if you are willing to go to her office hours and seek help, you will have no problem. I took her two semesters in a row cause I loved her teaching style and how she would make me work harder each day.

Dr. Johnson is extremely talented and very intelligent. She has diverse teaching styles that makes it very easy for all students to learn no matter the learning preference. The most interesting thing about her is that she drives home her point with real life experiences and situations. She is very jovial but firm; her class is always interesting.

MAJ is the best teacher you could choose for English 1A. I took her class as a senior in high school and it was so easy. I was always scared of the college work load but the work load was easy and manageable. Her class has no tests, just essays. There were only three essays for my class and some easy modules since the class I took was hybrid.

Very interactive professor and great with communication. A handful of lengthy papers to write with very clear grading criteria. Get ready to read because the entire class is based on reading different pieces of lit and responding in detail. There is a lot of extra credit options on the final exam, all info to do well is provided!

Due to COVID, we never got to know MAJ very intimately, but nonetheless, she proved herself to be such a passionate professor. Her feedback was extensive and critical. The material we analyzed were also so immersive and genuinely fun to read. In particular, the Parable books really caught my attention and helped reinvigorate my love for reading.

I am a freshman and I am so glade I got to be in her class. I took the in person course and it was even better because you can hear in her voice that she cares. Lots of extra time for assignments. Average grader. 3 essays the whole semester and pretty easy topics. Honestly if you do the work you will pass, she has office hours and pass peer sesh.

MAJ was an amazing, caring professor. She has recently implemented a one on one conference you can sign up for where she meets with students one on one so both of you determine the grade of the essay + good feedback. You even get a chance to revise it and turn it in again for a higher grade when you fix what she told you! Only 3 essays overall :)

Good professor. I took English 1B with her and it was fine. My only critique is that I think this should have been a 4 unit class because of how much time you have to spend dedicated to her class. Maj is MY FAVORITE!! She is a tough grader, lecture heavy, expects you to work but IN EVERY WAY SHE SUPPORTS YOU & WANTS YOU TO TAKE CHANCES AND MAKE MISTAKES. She is an incredible human who will help you in all your assignments but you must do the work. she is very approachable and will listen. TAKE HER CLASS!!!

MAJ which she prefers. I am a disabled individual, with this TBI. She accommodated what I needed, I love this class much better class than the summer class I tried to take in "English 1A" She educated me that summer semester is really fast paced which I founded that out when I tried to take this class in the summer of 2023WhichIended up failing.

Professor Johnson is great - she provides helpful feedback and made the class really engaging. The workload is manageable, and using Unstuck AI along with the free textbook helped me ace the essays.

Professor MAJ really cares about helping you improve on your writing, and will give you great feedback if you go to her office hours. If you are an English major, you'll love her and this class. If not, the grading can feel super strict, and in class discussions might feel dry. If you want an A, take advantage of extra credit and read up on MLA!

(the one before this submitted early sorry...) MAJ believes that a person is done writing when they feel like it. Meaning, she does not have a set amount of pages/words she expects you to write which is nice. We had 4 essays but again, they were not long at all. Overall, great class. Take up on extra credit opportunities because you might need it.

Professor MAJ was amazing! ENGL1A requires A LOT of reading and that is what's she expects from you: READ! She is available for you and provides all the resources you need to get an A on her class. She is caring and works with you to improve, you just need to look for her help. She grades more than fairly, chances of redo work to improve if needed.

I have always been decent at writing papers last minute, but this class made actually try harder. She is a very fair grader and I really enjoyed the materials we read and wrote about in class. Her Native studies class was very insightful and fun. I would definitely recommend her to people needing to take any English class.

I attended both 1A and 1B MAJ's classes and I tell you what. She is an amazing teacher, a great human being, and is always there to help. She will always give you feedback and lead you in a right way. I recommend to take her class!

MAJ is awesome! I haven't taken any class of hers before this, but I took a shot, and she was great! She always managed to grade papers fast and if you didn't like the grade you received, you could always edit/revise it. I believe the class discussions are important to participate in and listen to, so attendance matters!! 10/10 would recommend!

Read a handful but digestible: short stories, poems, novellas, etc. CW is stable: journaling & Critical Theory papers no more than 2 pages. Communicative, hilarious & welcoming. You can tell she's passionate about literature. Amazing teacher!

MAJ was a wonderful professor. Her classes are very discussion heavy, do not be afraid to participate! You will read and write a lot, but the papers are all personalized and you will be able to decide what works you want to analyze. Stay on top of deadlines! There are a many different extra credit opportunities and chances for revisions

If you want a chill professor pick her, especially if its your first year.
