She makes learning Theories of Crime fun. Very understandable and clear. Jokes are kinda nerdy but those jokes helped me understand what she was trying to say. All you have to do is show up to class and you can get an A or B.
I like her. She is very excited about what she teaches and that makes the class more interesting. 3 response papers, one book reading and a midterm and a final (test or option of a paper). Take good notes they are very helpful for test and response papers I would take her again for any other class. I recommended her.
She is really interested in teaching about Prisons, so she is always enthusiastic. Shows some pretty explicit movies, but they get the point across. The midterm and final are essays, but she gives you the questions in advance and you can have notes during the test. A lot of reading and you should always go to class or you'll miss a lot.
Very nice professor. Always very helpful. Attend almost every class and take good notes-you'll never have to read the readings from books if you do this. Tests are straight forward and easy. Just study your notes and you'll do fine.
Great Professor!Take as many classes as you can with her she's funny sometimes sounds like south parks cartman its hysterical She will help you with anything you need and explains course requirments early on so you know excatly what you need in order to get an A,& you will if you take her!
so cute! really funny and makes the class alot of fun. the info. can be a bit diffucult but she makes it easy. class work, mid -term, final, final paper. take this class with her. very fun.
I had her for both 353 and 355 back to back. Both classes were pretty similar, and always funny. Her sence of humor really makes the time fly, and she still manages to teach effectivly. Take her, love her!
Funny, smart, and a great teacher. What's not to love! Just go to class and take notes, you'll pass!
Great teacher, very funny, good jokes. Knows what she's talking about. Makes class discussions very interesting. Take her, and take good notes (because test are all essay and open notes).
Nice professor, jokes around a lot. Makes class interesting. Tests are all essays and she expects a lot out of the tests. One final paper which is a bit challenging.
She is AWESOME!!! Just don't be stupid and not read; she teaches based off of them.
Attend class. Read and you will be fine. Shes really helpful and is there if you need help. Clear and straightforward. AWESOME teacher.
A lot of readings from 3 books, plus several articles. 2 short 1-2 page papers, and 2 3-5 papers, and 2 tests. Great teacher, but is a perfectionist.
Much better than Eith. I failed the class with Eith but passed with her. Very helpful if you ask.
Had her for prisons-easy all open notes. She is very thorough with info-take good notes,delinquency-not a bad class, just take good notes and study. She is a hard grader and expects a lot. Theories-lot of info, critical memos every week, proj/paper. Nice lady, funny, just expects a lot.
Took her for 3 different courses, loved her in all of them. Little dorky but funny. Likes it when you participate in discussions so reading some of the material will help. I took Theories in the summer and that is the way to go. Not as many assignments to do just a lot of info at once. Include as much info in test as you can and you will do fine.
I LOVE Manasse. She's so funny and full of energy; she made class interesting! I absolutely wish more Towson profs were like her. DEFINITELY take. All the work is clearly outlined, and although she explains things very thoroughly, she makes herself available to those who need extra...
Find me another professor as excited about her subject matter and as dedicated to getting students involved in discussions and succeeding in her class, and then we'll talk. Manasse is insanely smart, funny, and clear about what she expects. And she expects a lot, but she makes you want to work for it. Definitely take any class you can with her.
She explains everything very clearly and even gives you the essay questions prior to each of the 2 tests. You better know each question well though because she's a tough grader.
Dr. Manasse is awesome. If you do the reading you'll be ok. But you have to do the reading otherwise your grade will reflect that you didn't bother with the reading. She is very fair, everything is outlined in the syllabus and by her. She is very funny, dedicated, and makes the class fun. Definitely take Dr. Manasse!!
Nice and funny, but definitly a perfectionist. IMPLICATIONS!!(although ramifications would be a better word to use, don't ya think Dr.M?)
I had her for intro to crmj and theories and she is the best.Very helpful, answers emails timely has reviews before exams, and can keep ur attention.I didnt really do the reading and i got b's in both classes...she is a must take
Had her for a summer class and she was absolutely great. Very animated and passionate, kept things interesting! I somehow screwed myself and didn't get an A, but it is certainly possible.
prisons: attendance not mandatory but if you don't want to miss something, be there. cool teacher, funny, takes some getting used to. There are numerous writing assignments: 4 memos (2pgs) 2 writing assignments, midterm and final, which is all essay but she gives you the questions in advance, open note tests, NO BOOKs. So write notes as you read.
Prisons in America. Requires a lot of readings and participation in class. Writing assignments are challenging and graded somewhat harshly, but the class is very interesting. Manasse is passionate about the topic and provides clear instructions and valuable notes.
The class is interesting and it is clear the professor loves it. Overall it was not a bad class be she assigns too many papers and grades them harshly. The exams are all open notes and short answer but it's A LOT of writing. The class was not bad but be prepared for the professor to pressure you into class participation!!!
Class is usually very boring, she grades very hard and her tests are difficult. I would not recommend taking this course with her.
ive had this prof for both prisons and theory. i love her, she has a great sense of humor and can always make the class laugh. explains concepts fully. She knows her stuff. Very helpful and gives quick feedback. However, she is a hard grader and sometimes expects too much. If ur looking to slack dont take her. if ur looking to learn take her
Best CRMJ Professor At TU. PowerPoints Are Clear, Lectures Are Interesting. Tina Fey Is A Fantastic Teacher!
Teacher comes across as a very fun and easy teacher. Believes that her class is the only one that you attend and will assign unreal amounts of work i.e. 70 page reading with two page homework assignment on top of rough draft being due which is expected to be five pages as well. Tends to rips apart everything you hand in. DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
One of the best teachers I have had at Towson! She is so funny and makes the class interesting. She is very helpful and knows what she is talking about, only 4 papers and 2 tests and she grades fair.
The only downside to professor Manasse is that she is a very tough grader, but she is a very great professor. I have had her for 3 different classes and learned a lot in each and everyone of those classes. Hands down one of the best professors at TU.
tough grader... very tough grader. hilarious person, don't try and argue with her about anything she is smarter than you and you will lose. interesting class, good teacher, and cares about her students.
Best CRMJ teacher at Towson! I disagree with people saying she is a hard grader. If you do the work, answer the questions she asks, and participate in class then you will do fine. Those who do not put in the effort will not do well. Simple as that.
I agree with the majority, she is definitely a tough grader- I literally spent 4 days straight on her term paper and received a C. Other than that, she is a GREAT teacher-smart, funny, fair, pretty (ahem..), and interesting. Definitely recommended if you're willing to put the work in.
Manasse is a great teacher. She is smart and knows everything in and out about what she is teaching. Even though she has everything on power point, YOU MUST READ. again READ!!! She will slain you, if you don't read. Don't be late, she will lock you out and make you look silly. Other than that, she is funny and a great person! Great Class!
First, I will say that she is funny, and nice to the students throughout the semester. She makes jokes and makes the class interesting. HOWEVER, she has extremely high standards. She is an extremely tough grader. She wants perfection. She is hypercritical and quite punitive. She only sees in black and white. I get A's and B's--but with her a C.
Dr. Manasse's standards are set really high, so I suggest immature-minded students not take her. Heavy reading followed up with a review of the reading in class to clarify. You MUST read. Why by in college if you don't read?
Awesome teacher. She is HILARIOUS and makes the class fun and interesting. The reading questions are not difficult if you keep up with the readings and the exams are pretty tough, just have to know the material very well. She's very helpful and as long as you show you're trying she will be easy on the grading.
Manasse is witty and fun. Her class is enjoyable and you actually learn. She makes you want to pay attention. Favorite teacher of all time at Towson. TAKE HER!! There are a few papers and 2 exams. If you take good notes and do the readings you'll be fine.
I can sit here & say dont take her but the truth is I loved the class &how she taught it. Standards vry high thn the avg towson prof but shes there whn u need her. If yr like me w/serious learning disabilities i suggest this b yr only hard class of the semester. Stay organized& on top & utilize the DSS test center. Her exams involve intense writing
I am obsessed with Manasse. She truly loves the topics (had her for theories and mental health) and even had me considered going to grad school for mental health. Maybe she's a little hard but I also learned more than I ever have. She's also hilarious and I wish she was my friend.
Manasse is literally the funniest teacher I have ever had. She is very clear in her lectures, powerpoints are not online so you have to go although does not take attendance. She is so smart and is tough grader but makes what she wants clear. Recommend!!! She is awesome and very passionate, thus, making learning easier.
This class is all lecture and some discussion. Lectures cover PP material. Make sure you copy ALL material and study your notes really well for exams. 2 exams, lots of reading w/ pop quizzes, a 3 written assignments. It's an interesting class and Dr. Manasse is SO FUNNY. Think Liz Lemon from 30 rock (both in appearance AND sense of awesome humor).
such a funny teacher. she makes coming to class fun. would totally take any class with her again. just take good notes and study and ask for help when needed and you'll do just fine.
Manasse is an amazing professor but is a bit harder on the grading side of things compared to other professors, but you will learn so much. Stay on top of things and study and you will pass no problem. Looking for an easy class you won't find it with her at all. Majority of classes I've taken I get As and Bs. With her I get Cs
I would not recommend to take her for any class. She is a tough grader and won't be able to tell you your grade if you ask at any point because she doesn't use a point system. It's extremely frustrating.
Professor Manasse is the best teacher to take theories of crime with. She is so clear and even though the readings can be intimidating she helps make them easier to understand in class. there are two tests a midterm and a final and as long as you practice writing the theories you'll be okay.
Manasse is hilarious she makes lecture really fun and she's a great professor don't get me wrong. Shes a ridiculously tough grader, she'll nitpick every detail of your paper, and will also pick at everything on your midterm/final so be sure you know what you're talking about. Its a tough class. I'm still hoping I pass, I'll leave y'all with that...
Here's the thing. She's a great professor, she knows her material, she's funny and a very personable person to talk to but she is over the top with grading. I understand it is a theories course but this is not grad school nor a 400 level class. She is also really late in emailing back which is an inconvience for someone taking 5 other classes...
While this class was very difficult, I learned more in Manasse's class than any other class before. I actually wanted to attend because the information she provides, the lectures, and the enthusiasm about theories was actually enjoyable. A tough grader but it her comments helps you understand the material more. She a great professor but work for it
Manasse grades extremely difficultly but her lectures are amazing. She puts everything into easy to learn and understand terms. You will definitely learn a lot in her classes, but don't expect to get an easy A. In fact, she'll tell you she doesn't give As. Do your readings, study hard, and reach out to her for help if you're struggling.
VERY DIFFICULT GRADER! class is interesting and she makes it enjoyable to learn but SHE IS A VERY STRICT GRADER! Extremely hard to do well in this with her. Do NOT expect to get an A at all.
HARDEST GRADER I'VE HAD AT TOWSON!
She makes work for you grade so don't expect to slack off and still receive a good grade. Even though her class is hard, she makes the lectures interesting and explains concepts through real life events and her personal experiences. 2 tests (midterm and final), 6 short papers, and one 12-15 page paper at the end. Difficult but definitely doable!
I do not understand how she has a 4.5 overall. Yes her lectures are interesting however when it comes down to grading, giving you constructive feedback, being accessible after class, and giving you a fair grade she deserves a zero. I read night and day and managed to pull off a C. She literally stood up in class and told us she never gives As.
Dr. Manasse is passionate about her work and is avalible to help outside of class. Yes she does grade hard but honestly it helps you become a better writer, especially if you are Liberal Arts major. She is very high energy so she makes the class as fun as possible.
Shes not your typical easy pushover professor; she makes you work for it. Yeah its hard to get an A in her classes but its also hard to fail. Shes such a nice professor, has interesting stories and lectures, easily approachable, and I havent had a class with her I didnt like. Easily one of my fave professors at Towson and in Liberal Arts
Dr. Manasse is an incredible educator. She teaches interesting subject matter with her own personal humor. The combination makes for a really incredible learning experience. I wish I could be her best friend, such a cool person. :)
Great professor. You have to actually do the work but it would be hard to fail this class.
LOVE HER! Looking for the easy way out? Wrong place. Theories is a tough course altogether but her mission is for you to make sure that you understand everything clearly. More in depth than other professors. I've never had a professor push me to understand the way Manasse did. Tough grader but if you DO WHAT SHE ASKS, you'll be fine. READ!
She takes Theories very serious. Teaches you the mechanisms and how to actually apply them correctly. 5 summaries, each on a theory. Two 6-page papers that together make up your final paper. Looks for specific points that she mentions before hand. Gives the best feedback ever!!! Midterm & Final. Tells many stories and gives many examples!
I love her as a professor but her theories class is hard. I expected it to be difficult but just missing one class messed me up completely. She expects you to memorize all of the theories and the little bits of each for the midterm and final so you MUST study to pass.
Get ready to write about one and a half bibles each class because she doesn't make it clear whats important or not in each power point so you are forced to write all of it. In addition, to a lot of wirting, you would think you would learn about how the justice system works but for the most part you are learning why its bad. she is cool though.
5 Home works worth 25% must be 2 pages but lots of reading needed to answer the question. Midterm worth 20%, Final Paper proposal 5%, Final Paper Draft 10% and Final Paper 20% She grades papers HARD NEVER GIVES A she told us this and she didn't lie. Don't expect full credit on the paper proposal or the draft.
Manasse is one of my favorite people in the world, but I'm not sure I'd want to take her class again. Love her to death, but she definitely makes you work for an A. She is super understanding, though, and if you talk to her, she will do everything she can to help you. One of my favorite classes, hands down, wouldn't have been the same without her.
i LOVE her but she is the hardest grader!! She explains the material well but then when you have to explain what you've learned on paper, it's so hard. She is nice and jokes alot in class but she's the toughest grader. Would not take her class again lol
Would NOT take her again! Yes, I understand she's been teaching at Towson for a very long time but she needs to stop grading so hard. She's also very unprofessional (I just think professors shouldn't curse). She's very clear about her lectures which is good and she seems to care about her students. She also makes jokes that are sometimes funny.
Professor Manasse is really passionate about her career. Although she is a TOUGH GRADER, she really tries to help out anyway she can. Attendance is not mandatory but she does not put up powerpoints that she has taught the last class so GO TO CLASSES. There are 2 papers and 2 exams and about 4 quizzes so just make sure you have your notes.
Professor Manasse was not the worst professor.. Her class was enjoyable sometimes and was very chill. Her in person classes were much easier than they were online during the covid-19 mess. But, there is a lot of material, a lot of reading, and she is a very tough grader. Only take if TRULY interested in learning about laws/cops/and some prison info
I'm not really sure why there are so many good reviews. She is a very big on reading and interpreting but is an extremely tough grader as well. Her questions are difficult to understand and wordy. She also seems to be pushing political agendas onto us as students with some of these questions. I do not recommend
It's practically impossible to get an A with this professor, she nit picks every little thing. I do think that she cut a lot of students some slack during the pandemic, which is great. Kind of unavailable, curses during lectures, very very very biased. Do not take her classes if you have a weak mind and are easily influenced. Overall, she's nice.
Before the pandemic, the class was one of my Favorites. The class initially consisted of open note quizzes based on the lectures and some of the assigned readings. There was also a paper in the beginning that she graded so tough, I thought that I was in an advanced writing course. After the pandemic, the class became so tedious I wanted to drop it.
She is overall a great professor! not even done the semester but i am very happy with how she handled class online with the pandemic. there was a decent amount of homework but nothing you can't get an A on if you listen to lectures!
She grades based off of her opinion which makes it impossible to get good grades in her class. Good luck getting attempting to get an A.
Avoid if you love yourself. Regardless of how much you write, read, or watch the lectures, you will never get an A on an assignment. Make sure you have your PhD in Delinquency before taking this undergrad class with Manasse. Manasse will also talk to you in a condescending tone and treat you like you are 5 years old and don't understand anything.
I had the online class with Manasse and I LOVED her class because she was so organized with her work. There was one lecture per week (which you could watch on your own time and were pretty interesting) and every week one/ two assignments were due Sunday at midnight, so there were never any surprises. Just take notes and you'll be good.
Her class is set up great and her lectures are easy to understand. When it comes to papers and exams she can get picky with grading and take off points if you don't agree with her views, even if you have evidence from sources she has given, to support your claims.
AMAZING! She is helpful and gives great feedback. Weekly quizzes, four 3pg papers, mid-term & final. I promise it's not a lot! We had one live class and one recorded which gives you all the info you need to succeed. I was nervous going into this class based on reviews, but they are so beyond wrong. The most organized and helpful professor-TAKE HER!
I adore this woman. She is the most organized professor i have ever had and gives clear instructions while always being willing to help more. During covid she has been very easy with deadlines and really just wants her students to learn. Not to mention she is overall a nice person who makes lectures interesting. Def take her if you see the option.
Her lectures are great! She makes the information very easy to understand and is very humorous while presenting lectures. The only downside to professor Manasse is that she is an extremely tough grader and her assignments are HARD. For example, her midterm and final took me six hours each to complete and the papers are brutal.
Her theories class is pretty hard, shes a tough grader and while her feedback is harsh its clearly articulated. Youll need the textbook to pass since she doesnt release her PowerPoint notes to the class. This course is a lot of work but its definitely passable, dont expect an A. She can be nit picky when grading and has high expectations.
She is an amazing professor. She does grade pretty hard unfortunately, but she truly cares about her students. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go if you want to pass the class. She goes over a powerpoint in depth but does not post it thats why its critical to go to class. She has a great sense of humor and makes material fun to learn.
When it came to grading, Michelle Manasse's comments came across as way too snarky, opinionated, and demanding. When I followed her advice, my grades did not improve. The positive feedback she offered was non-existent, so I felt that everything I did was wrong in her eyes. She's funny, lenient with absences, but it was difficult to impress her.
She is actually a great professor and lenient with the work. She was also helpful at any time of the day. Her feedback might sound direct at first, just don't make the same mistake next time then you will do fine. Her class was mainly based on quizzes every week and reflections. It was also open book too.
First her power point and the textbook didn't help me in the exam because the exam was open book. Try not to copy her power point when she is going over it during lectures, try to understand the concept. Get ready to read the textbook. She is a tough grader.
Do not take her, she is good at using curse words, she know how to use what is going on in her family to teach, she is a tough grader, she knows how to teach, get ready to read 3 journal article related to criminal justice , get ready to write 3 essays, get ready to do 10 writing question response. def not an easy prof.
She is a very very hard grader. If you want to get a good grade do not take her, if she likes your work she will give you a point away from a B, very impossible to please
TAKE HER! You will not regret it. I took her two different times because I loved her. She is very passionate about the content she provides. Participate and be engaged with class and you will succeed. Her power points hold all the material and won't be uploaded so just go to class and youre set. Love her lecture style because it encourages you!
Shes a great professor and is very into the subject you can tell. Tests are easy, papers are pretty simple too just make sure you show up to class and take notes because she doesn't post them.
I would not take this professor if you want a sane semester. Her exams were open notes but confusing. She often blasted her beliefs during class, which were borderline inappropriate. She often ranted about the election results. If you don't attend, you won't pass. If you decide to leave halfway through class, she will badmouth you. Pick wisely!
for the 1hr15min that i have her its mostly writing notes. I handwrite notes but switched to online notes because my hand was getting tired. it's a great class, you can tell she is passionate about it and the topics are never boring.
I loved this professor, her lectures were interesting and she is very forgiving with grading format wise for her papers. Though Attendance isn't a grade but if you don't show up you ain't gonna pass because she doesn't post slides but if you email her about your absence she will gladly send them! Overall 9/10 class!
Very nice teacher; watched great YouTube videos related to criminal justice and learned a lot.
This professor clearly wants everyone to do well in the class, and the lectures are very engaging and easy to learn from. She is very approachable, explains concepts clearly, and makes the class very stress-free. There were weekly quizzes that were pretty easy. She is an excellent teacher and I would recommend this class to anyone.
