Great lab teacher. Very helpful and informative. I would definately recommend taking lab with her.
I loved having Michelle as a lab instructor! She's fun and interesting, plus very knowledgeable and helpful. I learned fun things from her, and she was really easy to talk to and get along with. I highly recommend. :) I wish she was teaching other classes so I could have her again.

Excellent teacher. She makes class interesting and informative. Not boring! As long as you take notes and do the homework you will be fine.
A little dorky but really sweet and tries hard to make you understand. Really easy notes but kinda repetitive. DONT'T BUY THE BOOK!!! What a waste of money. Easiest class ever.
Michelle is a very good teacher and seems to feed off of her students. It always seemed like her energy level parlayed from the students, but all in all she is great. Her lectures are smooth and clear and her tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class. She always keeps her subject interesting and is a very approachable person!
I loved her class from the first day I walked in and got my spot. She is so interesting and the atmosphere was so positive. She made it really enjoyable; I loved coming to this class. Wish I could take her other classes for spring-well can't wait until I can-you will like her style she is cool!!!
This is a teacher who knows her stuff! I enjoyed this class very much. We didn't use the textbook at all which means that the tests were based on the lectures. I actually used some of the information I learned in this class in a paper for my sociology class, and a debate. I definitely reccomend this class.
She rocks!!!!! Very clear presentations and has tons of funny stories and add-ons to her presentations. Tons of really cool videos. Not alot of homework and I don't think I ever read a chapter in the text. Highly recommend this course!!!!
i took antro 2 with her and i LOVED it!!! she has 10 hw assignments (relatively easy) and two tests (midterm and final). uses mostly PowerPoint's but they are clear and she's very entertaining! i would HIGHLY recommend her!she's a total sweetheart!
Not only did she know her stuff, but she was very nice, encouraging every student. Gifted with many social graces and intellectual ones, she is wonderful to be around.
Had her for Anthro 2 and her classes are very interesting. There was practically no homework at all and only two tests. The class consists of lectures on power point and discussion. You don't need to buy the books, I never used them once. Her tests were easy, and I liked her candor.
I loved her! Excellent sense of humor and she is pretty hip and can keep up with the college crowd. I'm guessing she's in her 30's. Classes were fabulous and we watched some very intriguing documentaries that were pretty mind blowing. Also her powerpoints were very well done and her lectures were always interesting.Very approachable and hot!
Grade is based on the midterm, final, attendence, + 3 hw assignments... so you might be screwed if you did horrible o the midterm or final... She's nice yet obviously liberal; powerpoints are clear but very boring!! Bring a laptop or music to help pass the time.
This class was awesome. Michelle is extremely down-to-earth. She will be your teacher and your friend, plus the class is EASY. She knows her stuff too, and has a cool background.
Professor Markovics is great! She jokes around with students, and she is a fair grader.
Great subject, very interesting lectures, real life experience etc. You do not need the book, just be sure to attend every lecture & do well on the mid-term/final because that is most of your grade.
Fabulous! Not only is she young, easy to relate to, and really funny but she is passionate about Anthro, gives interesting lectures and really great class conversations. Even at 730 am I really enjoyed this class.
I took this class, Anthro 2, because I had to and it ended up being my all time favorite. It may have changed my direction...I want more. I loved it even at 7:30AM. Michelle is a great teacher. Her classes consisted of lecture, PowerPoint, great discussions, & mind blowing documentary's. I highly recommend this class and her as a professor.
In my opinion anthro classes are not the funnest (boring material), but Michelle made the class go great. She is funny, smart in many fields, relatable, and sarcastic. She's very approachable and a good person. Lectures were organized well and she grades fairly. Tests were easy, very few HWs; I had fun even though it was in the summer!
She is kind, relates the information well, and has a great sense of humor. I really liked her a lot.
I really liked her. She is really into Anthropology and loves what she does and you can see that in how she talks about the subjects. I also had her for the lab and she was very helpful and wanted to help you do well. I STRONGLY recommend her! :)
Really loves what she does, understands students have other things to do not just focus on school. Great teacher, highly reccomend. barely any homework and fair tests
Take her class! The first day she said "This is not a work intensive class" after that i knew i would love her. Only three homework assignments, not hard, she is very clear with what she wants. I also am taking her lab and she is very helpful and makes sure you understand the material. I don't have one bad thing to say about her.
Michelle is a great intructor very clear on her lectures, she does not mind getting interrupted with question in the middle or her lecture. Very helpfull, not much homework but you must keep up in lectures to pass her test. Test are very easy, everything you learn in class is what you going to get no trick questions HIGHTLY RECOMENDED
Excellent teacher. Most of the info you need for tests is in her lectures, which are very diverting. She encourages people to ask questions and doesn't make people feel dumb if they ask something seemingly obvious. Minimal homework, respectful, and witty. Definitely take her class!
Very nice. Only 2 tests, no notes. Has some good videos.
great teacher makes anthro fun :)
Michelle is a fun teacher. I learned a lot of interesting things in her classes, and she provided a laid back learning environment. You will need to listen, take notes, and study for tests, but it's well worth it.
Great fun nice teacher. Very good at teaching and making things interesting!
Cultural Anthropology-interesting material and Michelle made the class easy! Minimal HW, two tests, wouldn't even bother buying the textbook, I didn't open it at all during the semester. I'm contemplating taking ANTHRO1 w/her, Michelle is such an easy-going teacher. Definitely recommended if you're looking for easy extra units.
Physical anthropology made easy. Loved her as a teacher because she is very understanding and doesn't force unimportant information into the curriculum. While attendance is mandatory it won't factor in to your grade. Recommend this teacher to anyone in need of those extra units. I had fun and learned a lot! Textbook not a necessity to pass either.
Michelle Hughes Markovics is fabulously inspirational, and a fabulous inspiration. =)
awesome teacher who i will be taking for anthro 2 next semester.
Such a great teacher, I enjoyed going to every class. We had 2 tests the entire semester and most "projects" were only in-class. I would recommend her to anyone
I had no interest in this subject whatsoever, and she made me love it! Recommended for everyone!!!
I took her for Anthro 1&2 she is an outstanding teacher. I went in w/o any interest and I'm thinking of changing my major. She makes it fun, light, understandable, and interesting. I am taking her again for Anthro 3! She is awesome. Grading is average difficulty, but the material she gives you its hard not to get an A in. Great teacher, Great class
Wonderful teacher who knows her stuff. Keeps the class fun and interesting. Also, used Edmodo which is an awesome way to keep your grades and assignments in order. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and of her classes!
best anthropology teacher alive today.
I took antrho 2 because I had too, I had no interest until taking her class. Now I'm majoring in anthropology and have taken all her classes. She is awesome and humerous. Take her!!
My favorite college professor so far. Always keeps class interesting. Everyone loves her classes. Would recommend 100%
I took her for Anthro 1 and really learned a lot. She has some really great stories, on topic and off. I highly recommend her.
Great teacher, not super easy but really clear. I have taken 3 classes with her and loved them all. HIGHLY recommend!!
Awesome teacher. Very interesting. Easy assignments. Don't buy the book. Midterm and final are weighted very heavy in your overall grade and they are pretty detailed. Doable, just study! Highly recommended class.
Take this class, Michelle is an amazing teacher (and person) that is great at what she does. She makes a lecture on digging up ancient bones seem like an adventure out of Indiana Jones! And she's totally into ZOMBIES!!! Enough said! Really though, you will want to be an anthro major after taking a class with her... so, as nike puts it... Just do it
Michelle is the coolest teacher ever. I learned so much from her summer class. She is so smart it's scary. She loves her students and wants you to succeed. If you don't take any of her classes in anthro you are missing out on a good grade and good knowledge. The most fun Ive had here at srjc.
she is an awesome lady, very knowledgeable and loves to teach. she pushes her students to open their eyes to the world and realize how things truly are. i really enjoy her as a teacher and i think everyone does. im in her culteral anthro class which is very cool, i think physical anthro would be even cooler though.
I loved Markovics, she was a fun lady and i recommend her class to anyone, i learned a lot, and she always kept the lectures interesting. She is full of incredible stories that will blow you away. Just don't let your cell phone go off in class.
Excellent professor. She keeps the class interesting and is funny yet professional. In the top 5 professors I've ever had. Her tests are challenging, but her study guides are right on the dot.
Anthro 1 in the summer is the best class. Michelle is like one of the most chill smart as a whip teacher. If you see a bad comment for her, don't read it. There is no possible way she can get a bad review. Her Tests are on what we actually study. Weird I know, but some teachers tend to make up stuff on tests.
Took Michelle's class because I heard a ridiculous amount of good things about her-they were definately right. Shes great! Her lectures were sometimes disgusting and usually made me laugh hysterically - shes just awesome! She isn't tricky on tests & will answer even the dumbest of questions without making you feel like an idiot TAKE HER CLASS!
Take notes, watch the videos, and do the homework and you should get a good grade
One of the most amazing teachers I've ever had/amazing classes I've ever taken, and one of the most satisfying grades I've received. If you want an A, you MUST go to class and PAY ATTENTION. Unfortunately, since it's a gen ed, some kids in class don't take it seriously. TAKE THIS CLASS. You must do well on the midterm & final-2/3 of the total grade
If you don't pass Michelle's courses with a decent grade it's your fault! Take the class seriously despite the laid back atmosphere. You will need the lecture information for the mid-term & final exams so show up to class....duh. Michelle gives a study guide & is always available via Edmodo for comments and questions. What more could you want?
Really probably the best teacher I've ever had. Made me want to be an anthro major. The class is SO interesting but she makes it all the better since she's so laidback and funny and all around a great person. Saw her in office hours once and she gave me food!! Follow the study guide, take notes and I didn't even use the book and got an A.
Michele really is a great teacher! She's entertaining, very clear and helpful. She doesn't take roll regularly, but you still need to show up, which you'll want to do anyway because lectures are interesting, and as long as you pay attention and do the few HW assignments throughout the semester, you should do well. Fun Class and Teacher!
Probably one of my favorite teachers from the JC. She made the subject matter so incredibly interesting! Almost made me switch majors! She does pop quizzes, but they are mostly for attendance. If you take notes in class, you will ace the tests. I barely used my book, and got an A. I loved the use of Edmodo. Just LOVED everything about this class!
Michelle is a great teacher. She's very passionate about her career and always has good stories to tell, connects the significance of anthropology to the modern world. Lectures are full of information and she does not post her powerpoint slides online so you have to go to class to receive the information, but she will only test on material covered
Professional, prepared, brilliant, engaging, empathetic, patient, endlessly-interesting, and just about the funniest human being I’ve ever met. Simply put – this teacher rewired my understanding of the world. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to take this class. Trust me; take any class you can with her, she's a remarkable human being.
She is so smart and not you average teacher. I was just reading an interview with her, seriously type in her name in google and read it, its so funny... she's very entertaining and always has great stories. Cultural anthro with her is awesome.
Best teacher everrrr! She definitely cares about her students if you show an interest and try to get to know her:) She's awesome, totally reccommend her!
pretty cool teacher, attend class regularly tho because she pop quizzes (they are inclass activities) but those points add up,shes funny but dont let her see you texting she will put you on the spot, only 2 tests all semester but they were pretty tough, at least for me, but i went thru a crisis and had to miss class and she let me make up work
Great teacher. You learn so much in this class. Honestly, I almost regretted taking anthro at the beginning of the semester, because i assumed it was boring, but she makes it really interesting. You'll be mad and want to save the world after learning the stuff she tells you. Two exams and no homework in this class. Pay attention in class. That's all
I've taken her for more than one class and she's a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting and she makes her class fun and engaging. Sometimes she gets off topic but she's very intelligent and knows what she's talking about. She's really good about getting to know her students and taking the time to help them. Take any of her classes!
Really enjoyable class! Lots of class discussion! She doesn't take attendance! Midterm and Final are easy if you go to class and take notes. Never read the textbook just used it as a reference. Easy 3unit class and very interesting!
Such an amazing teacher to have! So kind and funny, and makes the classes fun-they're never boring. A lot of note taking in the class, and all the material is extremely important for the tests. Not a lot of homework for both classes and honestly you don't need to buy the book. Just as long as you take notes and attend each day you will do great!
Michelle is so awesome! She has the personality to keep you interested and still teaches the content really well. Two tests and one essay about a book. She's the kind of teacher where you look forward to going to class. Cant wait to take another class with her!
Interesting course and well taught. Michelle is well versed in this area of archeology and her passion for it shows. Informative lectures, interactive exercises, and really good study guides for the exams. Provided you attend the lectures, read the book and view the films there is no reason you shouldn't do well in her course.
If only every teacher were nearly as good as her! I always left class feeling like I had learned something new and exciting. Truly the best teacher I have ever had.
Michelle is an AMAZING teacher and is so passionate about her work. She's very knowledgeable and makes the class fun but is still approachable if you need help. If you pay attention in class and use the study guides you'll do great. Also the final project can be made out of food, I recommend this.
Michelle is pretty much all around awesome. I feel sometimes she clowns around a little too much but she is very passionate about archaeology and extremely knowledgeable as she herself is an archeologist. Lectures are a little hard to follow, most of the text is one word in bullets. Don't use the textbook much. Take her class, you won't be sorry.
Love this woman and the class material! Markovics is passionate about the material and it overflows onto the students. Her tests are difficult but you can learn a lot from listening to the lectures. The book was somewhat helpful, but my lecture notes helped the most when studying for tests. Highly recommend her.
Awesome teacher wont find a bad review on here jokes around, lectures are interesting, no homework, she knows what shes talking about and makes an easy going atmosphere to learn in i plan to take her for anthro 2. definitely take her
I took this teacher two times, one time on Anthro 2, and latter on Anthro 31, and I have to say that she rocks! Certainly one of the best, if not the best teacher I ever had. Her test are little bit hard, but if you study and also pay lots of attention to her class lectures (Which she makes them fun!) you will be guaranteed an A! For sure!
She's the best, she made a topic I was not interested in at all very enjoyable....has even made me think about switching majors. Very entertaining class. A lot of class discussion. If you attend class, pay attention and take good notes you're pretty much set for an A. I recommend this class.
She seriously is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. I have taken her Anthro 1, 2 and 3 and hopefully her other classes. She is so kind, helpful and makes you laugh in all of her classes. With the 3 classes I have taken with her, I never used the book. When I had to, I just rented it from the library. TAKE HER IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE!
Michelle is AWESOME! I took Anthro 2 and 31. I did not enjoy Anthro 31 but 2 was awesome!!!!!! Dont buy the text book.
So good! I have never thought of myself as an auditory learner, but out of all the classes I've taken, I have learned the most valuable information from her. She makes it fun and interesting. Highly recommend her!!
Difficult tests. She's entertaining. Still, you must attend for her tests are all off notes. Take if you're going to be there paying attention everyday. Don't take if you know you will miss days.
I loved this class! It was my first anthropology class and now I plan on taking more. She made it easy to expose hundreds of students to so much valuable information. I found the class easy to follow because I was so interested in learning the material. We hardly ever had homework so grades rely on the tests and single essay. Never used the book.
Great personality, lectures were very interesting. Classes are always fun to attend. The topic was a little out of my comfort zone, as I never particularly liked science, especially Biology, but I ended up enjoying this class.
I LOVE THIS TEACHER. Professor M is seriously the best. This class was so much fun and made me so much more aware of our culture and world. I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone and everyone. I don't think I'll have a teacher as great as her again.
Super nice teacher, but her tests are hard! She gives out study guides, but a lot of the test questions were still outside of the study guide. A relaxing & fun class, but you have to be fully prepared to know your stuff for the mid-term & final tests. (p.s. – do not use cell-phones in class, she has zero tolerance regarding that.)
I love Michelle! She is such an awesome teacher! The absolute best teacher I've had so far (in my 4th semester). I took Physical Anthropology with her my first semester (Spring 2012) and I was in her Cultural Anthropology class just this last semester (Spring 2014). She is absolutely amazing. The only classes I've ever actually wanted to attend.
This was the second time I'd taken Anthro 1 (failed the first time) so I was wary about how it'd be. Turns out: I absolutely loved it. Michelle loves her work and it comes out in her lectures - she makes everything so interesting! If you have the opportunity to take her class, 100% hands down: do it.
Awesome class. Study for the few quizzes you will have. She tells you when they will be, no pop quizzes. If you ace the quiz, show up to class every day, and study at least a little bit for each exam, she's an easy A.
Great class, learned a lot about myself & the world around me.
Best teacher I've ever had. She is very passionate about the subject and it shows during her lectures. Class is never boring. Attendance is pretty much mandatory as most of the class time is spent taking notes. Second time taking her, If you show up and take good notes you'll pass.
She was honestly one of the most amusing professors I had at the JC, she places cool music before class on the projector too.
Michelle was my favorite teacher at the JC, I took my very first class with her, and then took 2 more. Shes not only an awesome lecturer, but just an overall funny and cool person. She definitely triggered my passion for anthro and taking her Mesoamerican class my last semester convinced me to continue my anthro studies as I transfer. Ill miss her!
Really enjoyed her classlectures. Took her in summer 14. Made the class enjoyable and informative. Reading complements lectures. Videos breakup lectures. Awesome instructor. highly recommend. class was a pleasure to be apart of.
I literally didn't learn anything. I wish she would've given homework assignments to better understand the material. Lots of lecture material, no practice. It's not a hard class but she makes it, it's VERY boring & hard to stay focused. Only take anthro31 if you are truly passionate about anthropology. Otherwise, just stick to the basic anthro 1.
The best teacher I've ever had! I take her classes every chance I get. She inspired me to be an Anthro major and I love it! Her lectures are fun and enjoyable. You HAVE to go to class if you plan on passing. Her lectures are different material than her books so you have to read. If you need help, she's more than willing. She tells stories too!
Lectures are fun and interesting when a teacher truly loves what they're teaching (as is the case here). Try not to miss any lectures- most of the test material comes from the lectures. Exciting lectures and helpful attitude.
Markovics is an awesome teacher! She's the one who inspired me to continue studying Anthro. If you have the chance, definitely take her class.
She is informative, entertaining, and inspiring.
Took this because my counselor told me it would be an easy class. He was wrong, but I am SUPER happy I took it even tho it isn't easy. Yes it is a challenging class but she's funny and cares about her students, you can tell. Bonus - there isn't very much homework and we learned to write our names in Mayan glyphs. So cool. TAKE HER CLASS!
I'm really happy I decided to take her class. She is a wonderful professor who is passionate about what she teaches. I didn't realize I was interested in Mesoamerican anthropology until now! Her tests can be really hard, but if you'll do fine if you come to class and study.
She doesn't take attendance, but DON'T miss class. Respect her, and you will love this class. She is so smart and is an amazing professor. I absolutely loved this class, it was incredibly interesting.
Michelle is great I loved her class, she loves the topic that she teaches so she's really engaging. She'll surprise the class with fun group projects and is always there to help you. Tests are easy just make sure to read your notes and come to class because you don't want to miss the lectures.
Bottom line, she's amazing. Funny. Cares about her students. The tests required some cramming but really weren't bad. Missing class here and there won't hurt your grade. Take good notes, those should be the bulk of what you study for tests. She gives good lectures. I didn't mind coming to this class and anthro is not my major.
She is really laid back. No tests, only 1 final project at end of semester where, half of the class presents, while other half walks around to their posters. Little bits of hw, mostly articles, relatively easy, but had no idea what I was talking about. Mostly guess work b/c txtbook not useful or required to read. Do the hw b/c thats most of ur pts.
Awesome teacher! Very clear during lectures and passionate about teaching. Understanding of students and that they have busy lives and other responsibilities. Only gives a midterm and final test which are easy if you study and take notes during lectures. Would definitely take her again.
Easy going teacher, funny, and helpful. You do need to know the material in order to do well in the exams. She does not take roll, but if you are not present in class you will have a hard time on test.
Michelle's class was the most fun I had in a class, she's energetic and it spreads through out the room. Her lectures are hilarious, and her exams are ALL WRITTEN. There's a tiny bit of extra credit. She's passionate about the subject, and she's willing to allow debate for topics. She loves playing devil's advocate. Wicked sense of humor.
Michelle is a great teacher. Her lectures are engaging and fun! She has some in-class group activities, but as someone who hates group work, I didn't mind these much. The assignments are EASY MODE. A single unstructured paper at the end of the term. Written midterm and final (in-class). But thankfully, she grades very fairly.
Michelle is such an amazing professor. Anthro 1 (hybrid online) with her is SO easy. She doesn't take attendance, there are no exams, and you get multiple attempts on the quizzes. There's a fair amount of online homework since my class only meets once a week, but it's always engaging videos, articles, or podcasts. I highly recommend her as a prof.
She is amazing and honestly makes the class fun. She is a true gem to the petaluma campus and I would take her class anytime. If you miss class a lot you will have trouble on the tests. She never takes roll. She can be a bit tough when grading the tests but if you know most of the information you shouldn't have any trouble. I would recommend her
honestly one of the dopest professors out there. she's extremely engaging in all her topics. legit makes all her lectures super interesting . never got a single exam but did give a lot of pop quizzes online and there was a lot of papers due. highly recommend you take her class.
I took Michelle for Anthro 2 & Anthro 43 and enjoyed both classes. Anthro 2 more. If you go to class and take good notes, you'll get an A. I somewhat used the book but my notes were more important. Since you learn so much in class, I wouldn't recommend missing. She's a really passionate and funny. Really wish I could take more classes with her!!
Possibly one of the best teachers at the JC!! Take her and you won't regret it!!
Very easy A! Show up to class and take notes! I was terrified when I first heard that she gave written exams but they are the easiest exams I've taken throughout my two years here. Lots of lecturing but everything she discuss will be on exams.
Took her Archaeology class and absolutely loved it. So fun! Never knew I would be so into it. We got to excavate some creepy burials that she put out in the school garden and did a bunch of fun class activities. Not much homework. She has a twisted sense of humor, loves her students and is very inspirational. Take Archaeology-you won't regret it
I took her Archaeology class and i loved it. She was fun, but serious. She loves her job and shares her passion through her teaching. It's important to attend every class to pass and the group assignments were very helpful. She does go off or start unnecessary rants about unrelated things to the class.
She's a great lecturer, and makes complex topics clear. Make sure to take thorough notes, and listen to her lectures. I wasn't particularly excited to take Anthropology, but her class made me more open to the subject.
She is so passionate for ANTHRO and makes her classes interesting. She is amazingly funny, caring and fun to have as a professor! If you haven't already take ANTHRO31 (Mesoamerica). Amazing class.
I loved this class, took it over the summer, I work full-time and have kids, the mid term was difficult, didn't have enough time to finish. So hurry! (I didn't use the book.) First time I've had fun in an online class too. She is a blessing in a disguise, I'm older and her class is for all ages, I appreciate that as a mom on the run.
Literally the most amazing professor I have ever met. She gives such amazing lectures and creates a fun and welcoming environment. I cannot stress enough how easy this class is, and how fun it is. She cares that you learn the material, she puts more emphasis on lecturing and talking about the subject rather than testing you on it.
She is amazing. Love her online anthro class and I would take her again!
Just finished the semester and this class was a great choice for science. Michelle is a great instructor and teaches in an easy to comprehend way! Would most definatly take a class by her again. And would reccomend her to other students
I took Anthro1 online, and she was so accommodating to all the students, often asking how everyone was doing and extending deadlines if anyone needed it, especially around the times of the power outages and fires. answers emails quickly. a real teacher who cares about her students' success.
I love Michelle, she is an amazing professor. She has so much passion for anthropology and it shows. She puts so much effort into her lectures, she makes sure they are informational yet fun. I totally recommend taking one of her classes, even if you aren't necessarily interested in the subject.
We had a lot of issues where class had to be cancelled in the semester when I took this class, but Michelle was very understanding about stress levels and assignments. Shes a great storyteller and absolutely hilarious. I would definitely recommend Michelle to anyone who has an interest in anthropology or bio in general.
Michelle is a great teacher and one of the funniest people I've ever met. She is understanding about the craziness that has pervaded our semesters and caused cancelled school and is empathetic and willing to adjust to the class's needs. She is fiercely intelligent and extremely knowledgable and teaches the material in a very interactive way.
It's tough to follow the assignments. She'll assign something one class and then the next class the assignment will have changed completely. Not a good thing to have if you are trying to juggle multiple classes and stay on top of your work.
Great teacher! She was very intelligent and passionate about the subject. Take notes on her lectures and it will be an easy class to pass. She handled the pandemic situation and the switch to online well and was very accommodating when she realized zoom lectures were not working for the class. I would definitely take her class again!
With classes being online, Professor Makorvics teaches without zoom. Otherwise, be sure to look out for assignments (shell keep you updated). Homework is light, some is group work which is fun. A lot of modules to read though, but you usually skim through them. I would recommend her very much. Shes very caring and flexible if you need help!
I wish I couldve taken her in person because of the great reviews. Online I dont feel like I learned anything. She was uninvolved, (I actually had to look up her name to write this review). Hw was light so it was an easy class, but I wish I came away with more. She was nice and flexible in emails.
So far, Anthropology 2 with Michelle Markovics has been good. Class consists of us students taking simple vocabulary quizzes (they are so easy) and we also watch short videos/read short articles and write a discussion post on it. There isnt a set discussion post length requirement. My posts are usually really short. Take Anthropology with her!
Honestly, this class was really easy. I just read her flash card sets and they were the exact same on the quizzes (even the order was the same). The discussion posts were also easy. There isnt a set word count like how there is in other social science classes. However, Michelle does not really teach us anything and its hard to contact her.
Even in online class, Michelle tries to make it fun. Some of the readings were super intense, but interesting, and even a Key&Peele video assignmen. She cares about us students and is helpful if you need it. The discussion assignments are rad & no word count. She says she is more into what we say than how many words it takes to say it. Take her!
What can I say? Michelles class was an easy A. She assigned minimal classwork and it did not take much effort to complete it. Dont buy or rent the textbook. Its not necessary at all. Just read the chapter flash cards and you should ace every vocab quiz. Her class was really easy, but I did not learn or gain anything positive from it.
Anthro 2 with Markovics was the easiest college class that I have ever taken. The quizzes ask the exact same questions as her study flash cards and they are even asked in the same order. The discussions are easy as well. Unlike some other classes with discussions, there is no minimum word requirement. Just answer the questions to get a 100%.
This class was so easy. My final grade in this class was a 100 percent. I did not have to put much work in this class at all and still got an A. There is no extra credit, but it really is not needed.
The class itself wasn't hard. The modules for each topic were pretty heavy on the reading but you could skim and get the idea. The professor is very kind, my only real complaint is that this class was pretty unorganized. No real syllabus and assignments were kind of thrown at us last minute, I never really knew what to expect. Made it hard plan.
Anthro 2 was an easy A with this professor. There are two things you are graded on: open note vocabulary quizzes and discussion posts. The quizzes were so easy. Just take photos of the vocab flash cards she provides on Canvas and you will get 100%. For the discussions just follow her easy guidelines and post your opinion. Easy 100. No word requirem
This was easily my favorite subject/prof this semester! Super interesting readings and videos. Lots of group work but some of them were fun. yes there are lots of readings & materials to keep up with each week, but they are organized logically online for the most part and they were interesting, too. She's very caring and great during pandemic
This was literally the easiest class I have ever taken! There is a textbook but I never read it and got an A. The vocabulary quizzes are essentially a copy of her flash cards which she provides. Oh yeah, quizzes are not proctored at all and have no time limit. The discussions just asked your opinion and some questions on a short essay or video.
I would definitely take this class if you need it to meet a requirement. Only drawback was that pretty much all of the assignments for this class are group projects and that she doesnt keep up with grading. Also, she doesnt have a clear syllabus and will grade everything at the very end, if you keep up and do your work you should get an easy A!
Michelle's class was rad. She's hilarious, weird and inspirational. It was very organized for an online class, too. She posts funny videos and had interesting assignments/lectures She's caring and sweet and I loved the primate part of class!
Super cool professor. This class was mostly chapter quizzes and discussions, but the criteria was clear and actually fun/engaging. We also did group projects, some were optional, which made the class more fun. If you ever have a question shes easy to reach and is actually pretty funny. 100/10 would reccomend
Literally only 4 slideshows so far with no video, the rest is long readings, like 20+ pages per reading, 6 a week. We have 100 point tests and I feel like I've not learned enough to be prepared for them. Easy grader when it comes to assignments but assignments are time-consuming and long. Would skip a no zoom online class with her.
There r 11 graded items including 3 exams. There is A LOT of reading and videos to watch. If you do all the reading and take LOTS of notes, you will probs do better than I did. This class is detail oriented. Focusses on dates, locations, archeologists, and dig site proof. It is time consuming, but doable. Take it p/np if u can.
This was class was taken on campus and I'm so glad I took it on campus. She's such a great teacher in person and if you have any questions, she's ready to listen and help you out. Super caring and grades very fairly.
I loved taking this course with Professor Markovics didn't like how long it took her to release grades. There are two exams, one final project and you are able to take quizzes twice. Only one video lecture and the rest are very long key notes. UTILIZE THESE WHEN STUDYING FOR EXAMS! No extra credit but I would definitely recommend her class!
Most difficult class I've taken, NO engagement/guidance. No textbook, just random links to outside sources- 26+ links / 300+ pages to read per exam, no 'teaching' given. Very few assignments, so your entire grade is based on 3 exams. Exams are open less than 24 hrs and close at 5pm on a weekday; almost impossible to take if you work full time.
So long as you stay focused and don't miss any major assignments, Markovics provides a fairly straightforward class!
Very interesting class. We never had a zoom meeting in the whole semester, the textbook chapters are lengthy so DONT slack off on them.If your a good note-taker you'll be fine. There arent many other assignments except for chapters and her video lectures and other resources so its straightforward. Ended with a B, but you could easily get an A
This was a great ON CAMPUS class to take! We learned how to write our names in Mayan glyphs and would go around campus teaching people who'd walk by. Didn't need to buy a book! We had a class party at the end when we presented our projects. Michelle would answer questions we had, and was super engaged with our interests. Definitely take this class!
Took this class on campus and it was a great intro course. Take good notes during her lectures and use those to study for exams- she's pretty straightforward with her expectations. She is a great prof, especially in person and she makes her lectures interesting. Super caring so don't be afraid to ask questions- she wants to help!
FORENSIC ANTHRO (Anthro 19): This class was seriously amazing! We got to learn all the bones of the human body: how cells remodel and resorb, what happens when we get hurt, and how they can tell us about our life once we've died. Michelle is super passionate and it shows in her enthusiasm for the class. We also had a mock burial for our final!
She makes learning fun and truly cares about each and every one of her students.
One of the best professors I've had at the JC, cares about everyone and really kickstarts the positivity in a room. Super cool and understanding. Easiest recommendation for a class I can say at the JC, no doubt in my mind.
TAKE HER. It will change your life. She makes class fun. So much fun! she even taught us how to write in Mayan glyphs!! She has wild stories & is hilarious. I wish all my professors could be like her. The Petaluma anthropology lab is new and full of interesting artifacts. take it in Petaluma and you won't regret it. She really cares about students
Professor Markovics genuinely cares about anthropology - her class is simple, concise, and easy to follow. Grade is determined by few assignments, so do well on the quizzes! Definitely don't take this class if you are looking to absorb information concerning anthropology, seeing how the material and teaching style can feel unexciting/blas
You are just graded heavily on only a handful of assignments, and if you miss one or 2 I can completely throw off your final grade. I missed 2 assignments worth 5 or 6 points and got a A on both the midterm AND final but somehow ended up with a B. Awful!
She gives little homework assignments, and they are really easy to do. There are a couple of tests throughout, and they are also easy to complete as well. As long as you do your part in reading, you should pass her class with an A no problem. Most of the time I forgot I even had her class because we went 2 weeks without an assignment one time.
1 midterm and 1 final, each a good amount of questions 50-70. Entirely based off the textbook so just take notes on the assigned chapters. Sometimes gives weekly quizzes on chapters, again all info is in the book. Some of those quiz questions are in the midterm and final! Final isn't cumulative. Overall, pretty chill class. Would take again.
You are graded by few things with a very specific criteria for each. If you make a mistake, your grade will severely suffer. She did not allow us to see our grades until about the midterm. For a class taken mainly by freshmen and as a requirement, she treats it like it is a higher level class. I still don't know what anthropology really is.
Michelle is passionate about what she does and conducted creative projects that allowed me to better understand the topics. There are a few quizzes, but it's easy to pass as long as you take notes, plus you can sometimes work with other students. The end of the semester is really fun with a mock-excavation and laid-back individual project.
Student graders are the ones grading your assignments and they will almost never give full credit on work. There are not many assignments so if you miss a few assignments you will not get an A. If you are looking for an A do not take this class.
I took this class out of pure curiosity and I never regretted that choice for a moment. Michelle makes all her lectures interesting and fun. She does not give much homework or tests but if you show up for lectures you wont struggle. Not to mention she is hilarious and offers introspective discussions during and outside of class. Highly recommend
Most of the class is weekly readings of a chapter, a quiz on said chapter, and occasionally an assignment that amounts to 5 total points that counts for 40% of your grade. Lectures are insightful but TA's grade your assignments and will most likely dock something off on each one. I barely made it out of this class with an A.
