I really enjoyed Marshman's class. Maybe it was because I was originally interested in the subject, but I didn't find it hard at all. In fact, her class was rather enjoyably easy. She's passionate about history, too, which is a plus.
Probably the coolest college prof. I've ever had. Dr. Marshman in one of the best. If you're at all interested in History, take a class with her. She's not easy, but not hard either. If you're looking to breeze through, then I can't recomend her. But if you actually want to learn something...
Marshman has been my fav. professor so far of my three quarters at GR. She's very clear in class, calm, and is passionate of what she teaches. Although, the class can be pretty hard if you don't keep on top of everything. Tests are O.K. hard.. 1-10, ten hardest.. I would give her tests a 6.5.
I loved the subject, until I took her class. She more centered on the politics of history compared to the humanities. She is so passionate that it seens she is lecturing off the top of her head, so we never cover what we are supposed to.
She's okay. easy and very lenient. not all that good of a teacher, but not bad at all. I reccommend her.
she is one of the best profs I have ever had. She has a passion for what she teaches is always willing to help out. A great person all around. Definately would love to take a class from her again.
definately one of my favorite profs ever
Very enthusiastic, very helpful. She cares about her students. Pretty hard content.
She is a wonderful teacher, but she moves a little faster than some would have liked. The material is okay, a little hard. But over all she is a great teacher and helpful when she has time.
I have had her for two online classes, and I think she grades pretty easy. She's easy to contact and is helpful.
I'm taking her class right now, and I can honestly say, her class is the only reason im not skipping class every day now, my other two classes suck, but this one is definately fun!
Great teacher, gets into religious stuff a TON, refuses to allow any discussion on her statements such as, "There is no scientific reason why people should doubt evolution."
she's very bubbly and passionate about her job. moves a little fast, but she is clear about everything and helps you out when you need it.

She stutters like hell and is extremely annoying. The class is pretty easier and very interesting but make sure you don't miss a day cause she wouldn't care if you were hit by a bus if you miss homework.
Very cool teacher, she knew how to teach the class effectively and not with a terrible amount of work, also she focused on the best parts of history "WHY things happened" rather than "what specific month of what specific year did this happen". Cool teacher
She's a passionate teacher. I think she's a nervous talker. she studders a lot which makes understanding the material a little difficult. There's sorta a lot of reading, it's important that you do it too. otherwise you'll never understand. She goes through the material throughly. The multiple choice tests were tricky but the esssys were easy.
she was very cold and not helpful. she is way to 'the rules' but she's pretty good at what she teaches and the work wasn't to hard
I have taken one of her classes before, and it made me seriously consider majoring in history. she really gets into her lectures, and class is a lot of fun. There is a lot of reading, and you HAVE to keep up to do well, but there is no homework and the tests are open-note. Highly recommended.
Obnoxious and thinks her ideas are the only way that people should think. Expects you to memorize concepts(which is good) but she expects you to know concepts she didn't even go over. Her multiple choice questions are VERY hard, but her essays are fairly easy. Expect boatloads of reading constantly. Overall I would not recommend this teacher.
Very caring
She will ruin your GPA
Crazy feminist. As if I didn't hate history enough. There's no way I'm keeping my 3.8 after her class. Every time I attempt to read some of the fifty or so pages required a night, I fall asleep. She also has us writing a paper and making a presentation in which our grade DEPENDS ON OTHERS. I'm going to end up doing it all myself. I hate her class.
BEST HISTORY INSTUCTOR AT GRCC!! Take her at all costs! She is extremely liberal but she KNOWS HER STUFF! The one instructor that finally convinced me to major in History...As for those who despair the reading level WELCOME TO COLLEGE!!
Worked my tail off, and it seemed to never pay off. This class SERIOUSLY brought down my GPA tremendously. Not worth it.
You learn to think critically about the world we live in and why it is the way it is.
Great teacher, extremely passionate and helpful. The only people tat don't like her are lazy students that cannot think outside the box
Worked my butt off in this class to earn about a 3.0, which is about the hiighest you can get in her class. Then my partner on the GROUP final project cheated, and she gave us both a 0. this took my grade to a failing 1.6. I'll have to retake the class and IT WON'T BE WITH HER!!
A great, great teacher.
Best professor! She lives and loves to teach history and is great at it. I still remember so much of what I learned in her class (unlike most classes I've taken at GRCC) and she doesn't care if you know dates or not. HARD class with huge workload, but you learn a ton. Not for slackers - but she makes history fascinating. Very open-minded as well.
Biased. Towards material and students.
Highly recommend this teacher if you want to learn. Yes there is a lot of work, but you are in college now, and should be expecting that. There is a lot of reading, but she cuts out the useless stuff. There is a group project, but she does not make you responsible for other people's work, it is divided evenly. One of the best teachers I've ever had
Lots of reading. Multiple choice tests with one or two essay questions. More concerned about the big picture than with details and dates. Very passionate about subject material. No homework, just tests and quizzes.
I loved the class and she is very knowledgeable. Be prepared to read a lot.
I got a B in her class without doing the reading. Had I realized how hard the multiple choice questions were I probably would have. She's very straight forward about what's going to be on the tests, though. She gave us a schedule of all the test dates and didn't really follow it.
soooo much reading and tough multiple choice. i feel like i read so much and the multiple choice questions would still get me, frustrating.
Absolutely loved this class. She's very animated when doing lectures and it's easy to tell she really loves what she's talking about. She's very open to discussion and clearly answers questions. The textbook choices were superb, in my opinion. I liked this class so much I ended up taking more of her classes.
She is an awesome teacher! She is very passionate and it comes across in her lectures. She is very interesting to listen to. This is a hard class but she gives you what you need to succeed. I highly recommend you take one of her classes.
Great teacher, you will learn a lot of important information in a very short period of time. Be prepared to read extensively out of your text books. Good writing skills will help you pass this class.
Dr. Marshman is a pretty good teacher, and I found the class quite interesting. However, I did not do very well in this class, despite studying. I got 98% on the midterm, and a similarly high grade on the final, but on all the other tests I got Cs, which resulted in the lowest GPA I've ever had. I studied, just never the right way apparently.
WWII history. Class was okay. She was a good teacher and the inforamation was clear but some of the concepts were a little daunting. I probebly could of got a better grade if I studied harder and took better notes though. I would take her class again.
Dr. Marshman teaches a range of very interesting classes. I strongly recomend her Gender Studies,WWII, Ancient and Modern World history classes. She also teaches a women's US history class. Dr. Marshman is enthralled by her subjects and she will pull your interest in. Take detailed notes from the lectures and study hard!
Loved her, she was amazing and always in a great mood. She was very clear and always helpful. Readings about 3 times a week.
LOVED HER!!! She is amazing and she keeps the class interested on everything she says. My friend who took this class with me did not like history at all, but she loved it so much! Marshman is amazing and her personality is great. She goes out of her way to explain things to you and loves questions! I recommend this class to everyone!
fair but challening
Class consists of lectures. weekly reading assignments are given and in class or take home assessments are to be expected. shes can keep a conversation going and loves to answer questions. I can tell she is very enthusiastic about her field of study . Textbooks needed extremely!!! Its a challenging course and you will need to put in work.
hardest class i've ever taken ):
Great teacher, slow at email responses, and overall not a bad class choice, she can be a little confusing at times and sometimes can ramble on but she's pretty good at getting her point across.
Dr. Marshman's class was very exciting. Some of the older classic movies were amazing. Open book and take home tests. Clarity over content. She really makes sure you understand the relationship that the movies reflected in regards to American History. Easy "A" and you learn a heck of a lot!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, unless you like reading a textbook and about 50 pgs of outside sources per wk. She is unhelpful, and the worldload is TERRIBLE. We all just took our midterm, and about half of the class received a D or lower. The Q's on the exam asked for way too much info, and you only had 50mins to complete 25 questions + 2 essay Q's.
Isn't it funny how students who don't do well usually blame the professor?
History of the movies was fun, I took this class in 2012, and it further drove my interest in film, If you like classic film genres, then you should take this class, Michelle is very kind, helpful, and she wants all her students to succeed, and she does so in the processes of the course, The book is long and so are the chapters, but its helpful.
She's a great professor who is genuinely interested in her students and loves what she is teaching! Just show up and take notes during lectures and you'll do fine on her exams, although it would also help if you already have some established essay writing skills.
She was amazing, I have never had such a great teacher I hope I can be apart of her class again!!!
She is a very knowledgeable and passionate woman in her field. Her lectures are interesting and if you need help, she is there to provide explanations or clarification. She's very sweet and is a fair grader. Assignments can be tough but if you work hard, you will get the grade you deserve.
This was a great class and I have a new respect for the Movie Genres! So interesting to go from 1900's- to present day through films. There were quizzes but you had open notes so take great notes. Was an EASY A if you put in the effort! she loves this class and you watch two movies a week! Great films that you wouldn't think to watch on your own!
This class was a very interesting class. you watch movies that pertain to the era. Tough tests but I am not a great test taker. I had fun and most did in the class I took. She is passionate about history which makes it more fun. the movies were awesome and helped a lot!
Fun class that really opens our eyes to Women's history through the ages! Great class to take! She is passionate about her work and you LEARN A LOT! A 15 page paper but you are stepped through it the whole way! Very fun topics and tests were not that bad! Great class! Love having her as a teacher have take 3 of her classes and loved everyone!
Fair teacher
This was my first college class in a long time, reading her reviews I was very nervous. I learned a lot from her and if you do the readings, and actually study like any student should you will get a good grade. She is fair in her grading and very specific about expectations. She is also really good about responding to questions.
As long as you do the assignments, you will get an A. The quizzes are open book, but they require you to have done the reading. Sometimes the questions ask for specific details in the book. Work Load: 35-50 pgs, 1 reading assignment, 1 quiz, and 2 discussion posts each week. Everything is very easy and she grades easily, but she will notice bs.
Favorite class I've taken at green river, super passionate about history and gives incredible lectures, would take another class of hers in a hearbeat. Dont expect to do well without putting in any effort.
Im happy I was able to have her for history this quarter! Shes kind, caring, and very passionate about history. Shes not too harsh of a grader; but she can tell when you hadnt put in the effort. The workload is manageable and routine. To prep for exams, focus on key terms and the weekly reading quizzes.
I took professor Marshman's online History 101 class and I had a blast. There were movies at the end of 5 of the 10 weeks, the assignments were super straightforward, and as long as you showed effort you were graded well. Writing above and beyond won you extra credit, and none of the tests or weekly quizzes were stressfully difficult. A solid class
During lectures she will go off topic and wont go back to the original topic, making it really hard to learn. Her exams are graded on a harder level than the homework, which ended up making more than 3/4 of the class fail the exam.
this was one of the best profs I've ever had. she loves being a teacher and you can tell. i looked forward to her class. her assignments are the usual and she grades kind of hard but you catch on fast and learn a lot! seriously, her class helped my sex life. she made the classroom feel like a safe place and im actually sad that its over.
One of the nicest teachers I have ever had. She is super good at lecturing and makes lectures very clear and delivers information in a manner that is easy to take notes on and learn. You MUST participate in discussions and quizzes because the exams are EXTREMELY difficult. Lots of studying required.
Taking one of the classes Mrs, Marshman taught is the best History instuctor I took and my first History class at the college. I enjoyed every moment of the class from the first day till the last. She is super engaged, passionate and cares about each students success a lot where she will try her best to make sure each of the student passes.
Marshman is awesome. You can tell she really cares about her students and gives clear instructions on each assignment. The class I took was a regular history class but she made it very accessible and I was able to balance her course load in a reasonable amount of time. There is a bit more reading than I am used to but I didn't mind.
Mrs. Marshman was a great professor that gave a lot of feedback even if I didn't agree with it. Ultimately I lost my A grade in the final exam, but I cannot see what I did wrong. Professor Marshman is definitely a tough grader, and I feel that I and professor Marshman believed different things about some aspects of history and that lost me points.
Marshman is very passionate about history and is very nice. There are a lot of in class assignments and online discussions for this class. Textbook is provided. I found the class to be too easy bordering on being boring though. Pay attention and you will be able to ace the class very easily.
If you love history, do yourself a favor and take Professor Marshman. She is highly knowledgeable about the field, and when she does her lectures in class you can just feel her passion for history as she talks. You get weekly quizzes and also have two midterm tests you have to take, so you don't need to worry about writing thousand-word essays.
I really enjoyed this class and I am signed up to take her again next quarter! Read one chapter a week, do two easy writing assignments, and then a short quiz. Very manageable and she is very kind. I definitely recommend working on the study guide for the mid-term and final right away, do not wait until last minute
Dr. Marshman's class has been one of my favorite classes so far, while attending Green River. I recommend her class. She really cares about everyone succeeding and her lectures are actually interesting.
She is such a picky grader it is absolutely ridiculous. Also her lectures are so bad you dont learn anything from them. Her grading is just down right unfair.
Dr. Marshman loves history and it shows! Show up to her weekly zoom meetings and you will receive helpful hints for your assignments/quizzes. There are weekly quizzes, 2 discussion posts/week. 2 midterms, which is a cumulative of the units you are going through. NO FINAL! Her 2 essay questions are given in ADVANCE and will be on your midterm.
Prof. Marshman loves to teach history and her passion shows during class lectures. Show up for her non-mandatory zoom meetings. She will give helpful hints for quizzes, mid-term, and assignments. 2 discussion posts per week and 2 non-cumulative mid-terms. I learned a lot during this class and enjoyed it.
Professor Marshman has been one of my favorite professors Ive had at GRCC. Very knowledgeable and passionate about gender studies, and specifically as it relates to history, which is her focus. I learned a lot. 2 main tests, theyre pretty difficult, prepare for them, but are open book and open note. Easy grader on assignments and papers, got a 4.0
Dr. Marshman was AMAZING. She was very understanding and would check in on her students. I was good about turning in assignments but if I missed one, she would check in and let me turn it in at a later date. She was more lenient about due dates and cared about her student's mental health. She films lectures that are helpful towards assignments.
Very nice, understanding professor. Everything is due Friday but easy workload if you keep up. Lots of structure and day by day list of what you should do. Posted chapters from the textbook each week for free online reading of them. Open note lockdown/webcam quizzes each week and two big tests at weeks 5 and 10. Loved her class, would recommend.
This was a great class. 2 assignments per week + a quiz, the assignments were interesting and varied from week to week. Test Prep is important and is made available from day 1, which was much appreciated, and is well worth your time to complete as you go. I hope that I'll be able to take another one of her classes in the future!
Very easy class, not too much work at all and interesting material.
Take Mrs. Marshman!!!! She is such a kind professor who actually wants you to succeed. It is a bit work heavy but she is not a tough grader at all. DO THE STUDY GUIDE EARLY!!! Also, you can tell she tries to make learning fun and it was such a fun environment to be in. She cares about all of her students.
I actually took HIST& 127. Michelle Marshman did a really good job as a professor, really detailed feedback and she wants you to succeed. There is a bit of work in this class, but its interesting, more than writing essays and reading about history. She had us build first person travelogues of places we were reading about, and narrated presentations
TAKE HER! Professor Marshman is just about the nicest professor I have every had. I loved being in her class. She brought an energy that just made students want to be there. I personally don't like history but she made me want to learn. She even gave me extra credit and wrote me a letter of recommendation! BEST TEACHER EVER.
Literally the nicest professor I've ever had. So engaging, I really enjoy talking to her about movies. There's usually 3 things due every week (annotations, discussion, quiz) on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Kind of a lot, but it's manageable. Definitely take her class, you will learn a lot!
Really great professor! class has lots of work, definitely not an easy A but she's super nice and gives very engaging lectures. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Marshman really wants her students to succeed. Attendance is graded so don't miss too much class. We did not have any tests just a "project" due every Sunday, it would take anywhere from 2-4 hours to complete. If you put in the effort and do all the work you will get an A. 3 assignments a week (edpuzzle, reading and annotations, and project).
She is absolutely the best!!! I took her for HIST231 and HIST&128 and it was really awesome. She is very passionate about history. You can tell that by the way she talks. In addition to that, she is very sweet. Always willing to help. She makes history so much fun! Highly recommend! Just make sure to come to class and engage.
Prof. Marshman is one of the best professors I have taken at GRC. Her class was very informative and interesting with few assignments. Each week we would have an ed puzzle, discussion board, and project. She is such an easy grader and extremely cares about her students and very often gave me an extension on assignments without any point deductions
I took Dr. Marshman's HIST&127 course this Winter. Each week there was an Edpuzzle or two, you had to read a chunk of pages from a provided text or article and annotate it, then a Lockdown Browser required quiz. It's manageable and interesting stuff to learn about. There was one project at the beginning of the quarter on fairytales that I loved.
Material is highly engaging and feedback is detailed. The workload is moderate but feels light when it's especially interesting. Tests are relevant to information you will have learned and overall not particularly difficult.
she is a tough grader. the curriculum will be hard if you have no background of basic history. i believe she has a prenotion that all of her students who take the class are already informed and extremely passionate about history just as she is and if you do not meet those standards your grades will most likely flunk.
Absolutely amazing woman and teacher who is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about what she teaches!! She is incredibly understanding of situations and has been flexible. Very straightforward set up of class that is very structured and routined. Mostly online work, but not too heavy. Very kind and caring. 1000% recommend.
This hybrid class has a heavy workload. An Edpuzzle, 30+ page textbook reading with four annotations and one reply, & 10 question lockdown browser quiz every Friday. She won't upload slides to Canvas to encourage better note-taking, but this makes it hard to process her lectures while scrambling to write everything down before the slides change.
Professor Marshman is extremely passionate about history, to a fault. Slides are not posted before or after lecture even when asked so trying to write down notes during lecture is extremely hard. Textbook is confusing and uses old-timey language that is hard to understand. For a hybrid class, the workload isn't awful but can be a lot at times.
Professor Marshman is truly passionate about history and makes the class engaging. With weekly assignments and midterms, the workload is manageable. Attending her optional Zoom sessions helps prepare for assessments. I also found unstuck study useful for extra study support.
Great professor, although there is a heavy workload with lots to read for annotations, and a reading quiz every Friday, which requires a lockdown browser. The Ed puzzles are fairly easy. Be prepared to read. Textbook is provided through canvas but is very wordy and pages can be very long at times. Study guide was hard to study with.
Professor Marshman is probably the best professor I have had while taking Green River. I'm taking her again the next quarter as well. Very caring and takes time to help students. Her lectures are very clear, and she always finds a way to make the subjects interesting. Her assignments were orderly and due on all the same days.
Passionate about history, but the assignments can be a bit time consuming. With a video, annotations, and a quiz due every week (to which the quiz is supposed to help with the tests). The study guide is a bit unhelpful as she just lists the topics you need to study, but not WHAT you need to study about those topics. Easy to reach out to as well.
History of the movies was an amazing experience. You'll be given 2-3 movies to watch per week, make sure to stay on top of them!! There's reading work each week though she's very accommodating. You can tell that she really enjoys what she teaches. Very fun class!
Decent teacher. Exams aren't too hard if you study the study guide, she doesn't do trick questions. Weekly readings are pretty long and annoying but it's fine. You can miss 2 classes before they affect your grade. No quizzes, just weekly videos called edpuzzles with questions to answer. No essays or anything huge.
She's a solid teacher, definitely one of my favorites out of a good number of professors I've had. Attendance is pretty mandatory, but missing a few times won't kill you. She's very nice and encouraging and helped me a lot. Definitely take her if you have the option.
Professor Marshman is a cool teacher. You need to watch 2-3 movies each week and there is a discussion for it in class where you will talk about it. Also each week, readings take 1.5 hours to finish and you also have quizzes and assignments during each week. 2 Mid-terms and no final at all. If you like movies, this class is highly recommended.
Told students god made them trans, had a trans slur in the key terms, and made several other religious comments on gender and sexuality. I found it highly inappropriate and biased, overall awful teacher. Also completely ignored almost every email I sent her, offers no extra credit or help outside of class. Save your sanity, pick another teacher.
Overall a good class. Very textbook heavy, expect to do a lot of reading and annotations. No quizes, just three exams over the quarters. She's very silly in a way that makes you feel very comfortable
Extremely passionate about history and the lectures are helpful. Decent amount of work but nothing too crazy. Requires reading and annotating digital textbooks often. Fair grader and overall good class.
