This is an extremely hard class. She's an alright teacher, my biggest complaint is that it takes her forever to post our grades. TONS of material to cover, you better be prepared to study like crazyyyyy! She's usually helpful, but can get frustrated at times.
Mrs. McNeil is a decent teacher and she's really great with one on one and tutorials, but the class is so hard and the exams are so awful most of her students drop or fail. If you really like biology or really want to learn it take her class. If your just in it for the credit find another teacher or take one of the alternative courses.
I knew this course was going to be hard but I had no idea how much information would be presented. Michelle is very engaging and offers many opportunities to learn. If you work hard she is more than willing to help you. I learned more than I had expected. Pay attention in lecture and take notes this will make the book almost unnecessary.
She posts outlines of the notes online and sets up practice test to work through. She is very good about giving extra credit and is always willing to help if you put forth the effort.
is definately a NO NO, do not take her, the test are extremely hard, i understand that, she gives study guides but they dont really help, tries to put tricky questions on the test, not recomended!
AWFUL! She is one of the most rude professors I have ever met. She returns emails but they are always rude. Everyone in my class is afraid to approach her. We literally fight over who has to ask her a question. She takes forever to grade and post grades. I have no idea where I stand. Her tests are impossible. More than half of my class has dropped.
Do not take her course. I have never had an instructor be so rude to me and the class in general. I'm getting an A in this class, but it has next to nothing to do with her. Her tests? It's like she sits down and trys to make things as confusing as possible. Very bad experience. Not recomended.
Worst instructor Ive every had!! Super rude to students. Expects you to know every detail about micro, you dont learn the info that she tests on. I understood the material, the book was great! her powerpoints are a fail, extracredit is to much work and not worth the points. 1/2 class dropped, ones that stayed 1/2 failed. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!
She is an awful professor. She is very intelligent in Micro, but is horrible at teaching it. She is rude, hard to approach, always late, takes forever to grade and post, and "says" to come to her, but when you do, she acts bothered. Her tests are ridiculously hard and VERY tricky. A LOT of material. Do not take her if you can help it!
She is very rude and tests are very hard. Prepare to study and know everything! With 2 weeks left, we are down to 8 students in her class, everyone else dropped. I would take someone else.
Mrs. McNeil was really nice and funny. The material itself was very hard, but she was always willing to help. Take advantage of homework assignments and extra credit. Tests were hard but had extra credit short answer questions. You will need to read the textbook if you want to do well. I got an A, but it wasn't easy...lots of studying!
The coolest thing about McNeil is her personal passion for the sport. If you're taking this class go in w/ a positive attitude and embrace these little organisms! You must read the book in this class, as well as notes - internet research helps too. I anticipated a C and got an A. Go in w/ the right attitude. She is as helpful as you allow her to be
Not very helpful at all. she treats everyone different. her test are really hard. everytime you ask her a questions (which she encourages you to do) she ALWAYS replies "we already went over this in class you should know it" Always late too class.
Took for micro. Great teacher, extremely knowledgeable. Do not take if looking for an easy A. Her tests are insanely difficult and you may not make an A in the class but you will on the final and you will have a good understanding of the material. Our sections class averages on tests hovered in the mid 60s however our section averaged nearly an 80 on the final.
Just a bad teacher
I only took her class because it says "TBA" during the time of registration. But, if you can, transfer to another class. She is very knowledgeable in Micro, but doesn't know how to teach it. Her lectures are very fast, tests are extremely hard, lab practicals are also ridiculous. She's rude when you ask questions, strict on deadlines, and just..NO.
Look guys, micro is a tough subject. If you want to get into nursing school AND do well in nursing school (in classes like pathophysiology and pharmacology), then you need a strong foundation in your sciences and there's no easy way to achieve that. You have to work hard for what you want in life and Mrs. McNeil will help you achieve that!
Look guys, micro is a tough subject. If you want an easy A, then this isn't the class for you. If you want to be prepared for nursing school AND succeed, then I suggest you take Mrs. McNeil and this class seriously. If it wasn't for her, I would have been A LOT more stressed out in my pathophysiology class in nursing school!
Microbiology is a tough course and there is no such thing as an "easy" A for this course. If you want to do well in the course and get in to nursing school as well as do well in nursing school, then you HAVE to put in the work! Mrs. McNeil is a fair teacher and tells you what to expect from day 1, whether you choose to listen is up to you.
She is amazing, the class is hard yes, but she opens up her office hours to you to personally tutor or explain things your don't understand. Super nice and helpful. Will take dr notes for excused absences or if you explain she works with you.
She is VERY helpful.I have never witnessed her being anything but nice and willing to help.I really struggled in this class. The only reason I passed was hours of her help. This is a hard class.PERIOD She does a great job helping you understand. The class itself requires DAILY studying. If you aren't committed to studying,DON"T TAKE THIS CLASS.
This class is incredibly difficult. Her lectures are very boring and she is just too intelligent to understand. Her tests are VERY hard and the book is a necessity, plus there is homework every single night. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO PUT IN THE ENDLESS AMOUNT OF TIME IT REQUIRES TO MAKE A GOOD GRADE!
I would like to say how disappointed I was in this professor. I am a good student, have a 3.7 GPA with over 90 credits. While I understand the sciences can be rigorous, NO UNDERGRADUATE CLASS SHOULD BE THIS HARD. IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE STUDENTS WHO PUT IN THE TIME, EFFORT, MONEY, & WANT TO LEARN. Made a C, retook with a diff prof and made an A. Sad.
I ended up dropping the class because I wanted to receive a better grade. She was more than willing to help me get the grade off of my GPA in the end. Loved her as a lady but the class was really tough. Lab was easy though.
DO NOT TAKE!! Over half of the class dropped and the 11 that stayed either failed or got a c. She is very rude. I tried to contact her about a problem and she used caps and everything. She is very mean and does not care about your education. She gets mad if you ask her for help in lab. Her tests are hard and she does not use time wisely.
Mrs. McNeil is not the monster people are claiming her to be. She is always cracking jokes, handing out BONUS POINTS and gives you a week or more to complete all homework assignments (Which there are not that many) Her tests are hard but in all honesty, every question comes directly from her power points so there is no reason to fail! I made an A
BORING subject. She is nice enough, but we got behind this semester. Lots of opportunities for bonus points - take the time to do them. Tests are straight forward. Lab exams are hard!
This class is hard and requires a lot of attention. Take this class by itself and do not take with another science class if you cannot focus and do you work. Lots of extra credit and lots of help when you need it. She cares about your education only if you care about your education.
This subject by itself is hard. Dont take this class if you arent willing to put in 100%. Mrs.McNeil isn't a horrible teacher she does her part but you HAVE to put in the extra effort she will help. Tests and labs are super hard but if you listen and read the ppts you will do well. She is really straight forward. I would take her again
She gives a good lecture... but its hard to pass a test when its over 8 chapters at a time!! Impossible class to take unless you really enjoy microbiology or its the only class you're taking that semester. Would recommend a different teacher for sure!! No help and looks at you like you're dumb when you ask any questions.
Do not take this professor. Her tests are over an insane amount of chapters at one time. She goes over things only once and moves quickly. She is rude to students who ask what she may consider a "stupid question". MasteringMicro assignments once a week aren't too bad but the tests are just so hard. DO NOT TAKE
Very cool human being but not a good teacher. She grades extremely tough and expects near memorization of approx 125 pages of material per lecture exam. Lab exams are very detailed with no learning leniency. This is a class to take if you already have a doctorate in microbiology and need a refresher. If you're new to the subject. run. Away.
Mrs. McNeil's class was hard, sometimes boring, other times enjoyable. Stay on top of your reading and studies. Start learning the diseases now! Don't wait until the last few weeks of school. Labs are easy, lectures you have to work for. She has her good days and bad. Seems rude through email but its email, take it w a grain of salt. Stay strong!
She is rude and doesnt want to answer any questions. If you do ask a question she only has sarcasm to answer with. She is aweful AND RUDE. Dont take her class she is very very rude and doesnt really care about her students at all. Terrible teacher. You Should not teach if you dont like to teach. Her lectures are so boring.
HORRIBLE TEACHER --CHANGE YOUR PROFESSOR NOW!
I do not know how or why she chose this career path. Cannot teach, Treats students like idiots, Tests are insane, Slow to grade, all around just an aweful at her work. Constantly criticizing anyone and everyone who is really there to learn. A student? you will not make an A unless you memorize the entire book. Her goal is to fail as many as possibl
Definitely not an easy class, lots of studying, and pretty boring during lecture... Because biology... But if you study/memorize the bolder letters in the slides she gives you, you will do fine. She's a fair prof
STAY AWAY! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. I'm a 4.0 BIMS student @ TAMU, struggling to keep a solid B in this class. The material is not hard its the professor. she's not willing to help you AT ALL, does not specify what is on the test so you basically have to memorize 6 chapters by yourself. class averages were always below a 70 NO CURVES NO EXTRA CREDIT!!!!
I wouldn't listen to any of the negative comments on here. When I found out I would have her as a teacher, I was terrified because I saw all the negative reviews but she's not horrible at all. She's really helpful and funny. Yes it's a tough class but she posts a lot of material online and really tries to help her students. I would recommend her!
One of the best Biology professors i have taken so far. Yes, micro is a tough course but Mrs McNeil strives to make sure her students understand the material given. As long as you pay attention in lecture and lab and do all assignments it is not hard at all to pass with a B. I absolutely recommend Mrs McNeil.
Mcneil is a descent teacher considering Biology is a boring subject. We were behind all semester and was forced to catch up ourselves for the test. We never had the material covered for lab, so it was kind of do it yourself type thing. She is very nice but don't expect her to work with you on your grades what so ever. Overall I would recommend her.
Professor McNeil teaches this course pretty well considering the topic. She does tend to read right off the powerpoints. If you do masteringbiology as well as the labs it helps your grade. You can do bad on the tests and still do decent. She is helpful when it comes to Lab Exams and gives a review that really helps. No extra credit really offered.
I don't understand how she has a bad rating! Professor McNeil is a really fun teacher. She actually engages with the class and tries to start a dialogue about the subject, and she's really funny and cute! She makes you work for your grades, and can be a little tough on labs or a little disorganized with grading and timing but she's a solid choice!
Tests are difficult and written extra credit is offered on the back. No curves are given and you will have to work in groups during labs. She grades labs at random to keep you on your toes and grades spelling/grammar. Her class is geared more for the Nursing program. This class demands a lot of time with projects and studying. Clear your schedule.
She is freaking awesome. Truly cares about her students. Yes, very tough class and she expects a lot out of you. Have to work your butt of to make an A. There is honestly a ton of extra credit. If you are a hard working student, I would take her for sure. She is a very enjoyable person. I want to take her for Micro
She teaches as though you're going into the medical field. Expect to work. Get a routine going and don't lose it. You will have some downtime, but not a lot. She will be up front that part of her goal is to teach you the study skills for the next level. If you communicate with her, she will give you every bit of support she can. Highly rec.
Mrs. McNeil is amazing! Micro is a difficult course but Mrs. McNeil shows passion in teaching the class and is very patient with answering questions. Exams aren't too difficult; I recommend reviewing the Learning Objectives that she posts on eCampus. As long as you do your assignments, read, and study the learning objectives you will pass!
Not the best prof, but I have had worse. She was twenty mins late every day, even on exam days, and even today for the final. But she cares about her students and is willing to help you out if you go to her office hours. Doesn't really teach the material bc she just reads off the lecture slides, but she isn't horrible if you have to take her.
If you are a good student and know how to teach yourself and study well you'll make a B if you're lucky. Lots of students dropped this class. She was always late.
Good professor. Drops a test grade and gives you everything you need to do well.
This class is tough no matter who you take. She cares and even made extra videos to help with lab and understanding. Helped connect the dots between A&P and BIO with real life examples. She truly cares about students. Only negative - slow to post grades. I would take her again!
I actually enjoyed this class very much and feel like i've learned a lot. She is easily accessible outside of class and responds to emails quickly. It's a HARD class but the class average in my section is a B which is great for micro. She's very nice, but you have to work for it. Yes she's late a lot, but she also brought donuts to the final.
Took her for bio lab, fairly easy class. Lab quizzes are online, just study hard for practicals. She is pretty easygoing, just slow on grading. Would take her again.
Lectures were interesting and her organization was appreciated. From day 1 all study guides and helpful links (including online flash cards she took the time to make for us) were accessible. Hint: Instead of taking notes like usual, save study guide & type answers in as she teaches, she goes in order and those exact questions are rephrased on tests
She is slow to lecture so we do not get through half of the material we need for the exam. She tries to accommodate for not getting through the material but in the end we have to teach ourselves. Micro is already a hard class but she makes it way more difficult with her teaching style. Overall, would choose another professor!
Looking to pass your class? This is not the professor to take. She is actually the worst professor I have taken at Blinn and does not care about her students passing or learning. She is always late to lecture and all she does is read straight off the powerpoint that she can't even get through. Unless you're ready to teach yourself do not take her.
If you need to take micro for nursing school, take her! Many students in my class complained about the amount of work this class demands, but it is doable and reasonable. Tips: Do all of the lab reviews, study objectives (mimics exam questions), study mastering questions (some are on the exam), memorize her powerpoint slides and you are golden!
Go to class ! She writes things that are not on her power points ! Speak during class, know the answers before class! This will help you ! Keep ahead, and do all the reviews she post. Unknown report, be very specific and do more than asked. She is great, she does give yuo every chance to earn your grade.
She is nice. But be prepared to teach yourself content. If you have a life outside of school, this prof may not be the choice. Makes material more complicated and harder than it needs to be. This is not a course that should be taken lightly but she only cares about what she needs to get through - doesn't care if you get it. Hard to reach via email.
worst prof ive ever had. I repeatedly emailed her about how to improve my grade and instead of doing her best to help me, she would throw in my face how i wasnt doing well in the class when the whole reason i emailed her was bc i needed help. she's so sarcastic and truly one of the most hateful people i have met. grades wayyy to hard on labs too.
worst prof. do not take her. doesnt care about how ur doing and im 90% sure SHE is the reason i did so bad in the class. she also grades way to hard on labs when i answered questions straight from the book. she hardly gives grace and my semester was when we had to move to online micro and she was not helpful at all. whatever u do not take fr her
I tried to like her. I really did. But she is seriously one of the most uncaring professors I've ever had. She hardly responds to emails, and any questions asked would get a passive aggressive response.I took this class when all material went online for COVID-19. She had no empathy for any of us. Very disorganized. Please save yourself a Q drop.
McNeil is terrible. She is always late to class, uses lab time to teach lecture due to her being late, and is super unorganized. She is extremely condescending in her emails also. She thinks that just because she posts extra links to separate youtube videos, that it makes up for her lack of teaching. DO NOT waste your time with this professor.
Prof McNeil is AMAZING. Micro is NOT an easy course from ANY professor, but Prof McNeil tries her hardest to help as much as she can while still making sure we are actually learning. A lot of studying is required outside of class, but she gives practice exams and study guides for everything. Lots of quizzes, but they helped me learn the material.
You are going to have to teach your self everything. Nice women, but get ready for a condescending/ sarcastic remark, whenever you ask her a question. You need help? Don't bother emailing her, she will either take forever to reply or email you back a rude statement. She does not care if you learn the material and just tries to through the lectures
She was so hard to reach especially with everything during corona. She makes her lecture exams super SPECIFIC. I DO NOT recommend this prof. You are going to have to each your self. She did not show up to class for a week, and still expected us to learn all the material, even without lec slides, we still had to learn 2 ch. out of 5, BY OURSELVES.
McNeil is an awful instructor. Extremely difficult to work with during the COVID19 pandemic. She's passionate about microbiology but doesn't care if you understand it... she just needs to get through content. Be prepared to learn/ teach yourself an entire chapter the day before an exam.
Do not take McNeil if you have a life outside of school. Overwhelming amount of material you're expected to learn and memorize the day before an exam. If you have the time to complete all of the study guides, practice exams, chapter readings, homework, lab work and memorize all of it... you might be okay.
Not the easiest class I've ever taken, but Professor McNeil actually cares about the material. If you do the homeworks, study guides, and review notes, you'll be fine. She'll help you if you need it, but does not tolerate laziness. Definitely take advantage of the study guides, she pulls questions directly from here. She focuses on nursing topics.
Due to the sudden switch to online classes the second portion of the semester was rough however she does have clear expectations on what she wants you to know for exams through her study guides. Study guides for lab exams are given as well. Take lots of notes, her lectures in person are pretty good but she speeds through recorded lectures.
This professor is HORRIBLE. She was never on time for class and then would use lab time to teach the lecture, because she was late. She thinks her bad jokes and youtube videos suffice for her horrible teaching. I had to drop the class which has put me back an entire year before I can start my nursing program, due to her inability to teach.
She always arrived late to class and would take away from lab time to finish the lecture for the chapter. Sometimes we had to watch lecture videos to make up for multiple chapters because she couldn't finish everything before the exam. When it was moved online, it became more difficult and she wasn't helpful over email. I recommend using the book!
she always arrived late for class. she would just read the slides and the chapter is completed. bio 2 is a tough class and needs a lot of focus. if you are a self learner, you can choose her. no extra credit.
She was always late to class. I emailed her 10/24 and its now 11/4 and she still has not responded to my email. I have never failed/dropped a class and this is one that Im going to have to drop. I work with 9 different people that have told me they have had to drop her class because she just doesnt give out the content to pass.
She does not curve any test .. test averages were 70 for entire class , only drop two assignments as a curve not easy to ask questions with and grades hard and test are hard . They do not line up with her lectures so if u take her be ready to read the book
Would not recommend this professor to anyone. She would consistently be late for class, then take up lab time to finish the lecture content. She reads straight off the powerpoints and expects you to understand all of the material. Very unorganized. theres been multiple tests that didn't open when she stated they would. Shes not helpful whatsoever.
Shes a nice person, but it was hard to pass exams in her class. The only extra credit given is .50 of a point to your grade. Most of the stuff that you will study is not on the exam. I studied hours on end, and could not pass a test. Although I did not have the best experience, she does care about her students.
Good person, not the best professor. Extra credit with 0.50 points. Didn't answer emails towards the end of the semester.
If your looking for a professor to blatantly embarrass you in front of the whole class then she is the professor for you! Professor McNeil was never on time and the lab was never set up so class didnt start until 15-30 mins late. We never learned the right material for exams so if your good at self teaching then take this class.
Prof McNeil is doing her students a disservice. She is never on time. She says don't cram for exams but posts material a week and a half later than it was suppose to be posted. If she's gonna make her exams hard, she should try actually teaching the material first. Taking this class with this professor was a waste of my time and money.
Im not sure why she has such bad reviews on here, but I have no complaints. She does show up to lecture a little late, but theres only a few students in our class so we finish early everyday. The tests are easy to pass if you do the study guides and homework she provides. She reaches out when shes concerned about your grades. Overall nice prof
While McNeil is a very good teacher and I learned from her very easily, I would not suggest taking her class. She would show up late (once 20 minutes late to a test), never get through lecture, and would post very short online lectures on what we didn't go over a day or two before the test. Way too stressful for what it is worth.
I have no idea what these other reviews are talking about, don't listen to any of them. Her class was always fun to go to, she was always on time, and she made things very easy to understand. Very understanding for unexpected problems and very easy to ask questions and even gave good explanations. Some group work was involved. Great professor.
I'm convinced the people who rate professors badly are those who don't put in the effort to see what great teachers have to offer to their students. Professor McNeil is super thorough and professional when teaching, cracks jokes, is kind to everyone, as well as willing to help. Super easy tests. Like any science course, study dude. She's awesome
The class is definitely not easy but this professor does her best to give explain and has visuals to help grasp the abstract concepts. Gives you everything you need to ace the class it just takes a lot of work. Def would take her class again so interesting and a great professor.
This class is difficult in general. Professor McNeil knows what she is teaching pretty well, but I do not recommend her if you like to follow a schedule. She was late to almost every class, including the final exam. After the first lecture exam, she was never caught up on material and we were rushed on taking every exam after.
Great professor who will take the time to explain to you if you ask. Class is tough and you really have to study to do good (obviously I didn't study too much in the beginning) but overall definitely a great class and teacher.
I took this class twice, but the only reason is because I didn't show up and put in the work the 1st time. The 2nd time I went to office hours more. She was very kind and encouraged me that if worked hard in and out of the classroom my grade would reflect that. The material she teaches is hard but she will help you understand if u ask. 10/10 :)
McNeil was a great professor. It is NOT an easy class and anyone expecting an easy A should be prepared for failure. This class is not meant to be easy; the content is hard and so it feels rushed. McNeil was very helpful and kind. Prepare to take lots of notes; her power points and lectures have all the info you need to pass.
Overall a good professor. If you go to class, do the study modules, and extra credit, you will do good. The tests align with the learning material completely. She doesn't trick you. The only negative is that she will be late every day to class. I enjoyed the material and she teaches well, so as long as you don't mind tardiness, I would recommend.
She is always late every day! Was late to get food one day! We were way behind to the point where every test was being moved. She is very unorganized, terrible communicator. Worst class I have ever taken. Never did what she said she would. Post materials needed for a test the day of exam.
Horrible. Constantly late, even to exams. Disrespectful. Passive aggressive. Unorganized. Rude. This is a hard enough subject to study without being constantly behind on material because of her lack of time management. Every exam was pushed back. If you can take literally anyone else, I suggest you do so.
Other reviews say prof. was late, uploaded things late, was unorganized, etc. (all true btw) If you read the chapters, pay attention to the slides, and do the hw, you should do alright. Prof. really is rooting for her students to pass, don't be afraid of the passive aggression (it's unintentional imo.) If you do decide to take her, good luck!
Other reviews said she was late to class. It's true. However, when she is unable to finish lecturing over a chapter she willl move the exam date. She is very helpful and rooting for the students to pass. Lots of study materials, from individual chapter study guides, and extra online assigments to help you study. Overall, she is a great professor.
One of the only teachers I connected w on a personal level and was truly understanding of my situation at the time. Loved her class time. Funny and engaging. Provides feedback. Point out what's on test. Give ample review material. Great teacher. Absolutely loved her. It you ate ify about teachers she's the one to take. Robert 2024.
Professor McNeil's class is challenging but manageable if you stay engaged. Her lectures are detailed, and she's happy to clarify concepts. Attending class and using tools like Unstuck AI for study prep really help. Overall, a rewarding experience.
She was always late to class, even on test days. She's a nice person but her teaching methods didn't make this class any easier. Tests and reviews didn't line up most of the time which made it hard to know what you should be studying. Lab is fairly easy, but grades packets HARD. Not a good class to skip lecture or lab, participation taken randomly
Professor McNeil was a good professor if you are able to learn the material yourself. She makes passive comments towards students and has slideshows to help her keep along with the material during lecture, however it is just a general outline. She has study guides to follow along during lecture, rarely does she talk about the material on it.
