Michelle doesn't teach very often since she is mainly at Pitt for research. Her lacking of teaching experience definitely shows as she reads directly from the slides. The slides she gets come directly from the book so I would recommend reading the book first to determine if the lecture is worth attending. She WILL bore you to sleep. Avoid her.
Morgan is pretty great. Her lectures are a little dry, but if you study the book, you'll do great. She provides extra problems and plenty practice. She also drops an exam if you do better on the final. I would definitely recommend her if you like content straight from the book with not many curve-balls on exams.
Dr. Morgan was actually a great chem professor. Yes her lectures were boring and dry, her exams were very fair and I got my first chem As on her exams. Her office hours are also very helpful. I would definitely recommend her for chem 2 compared to the other chem 2 professors.
The lectures are very boring and dry, the the mid term tests are difficult but doable if you spend countless hours studying. The final was nearly impossible to complete.
If you have the ability to sit through a sometimes boring lecture then this class won't be too bad since they are straightforward. Her tests are just like the practice questions which makes them easy to study for. She isn't very tricky on tests, but they're easy to make mistakes on. She is nice and works with students if they are struggling!
Dr Morgan clearly knows her stuff, but isn't too good at converting that knowledge into engaging lectures. Nice lady and accessible outside of class through email. She has those tests where you'll leave thinking you aced but find out you got wrecked when grades are released.
Pretty sure I don't know anything about Chemistry and somehow I still got a B in this class? Dr. Morgan is extremely smart, but she's not a very good teacher. Her lectures are dry, but she really does care about helping students. She does total points and gives quite a bit of extra credit. It's stressful, but she takes care of everyones grades.
Professor Morgan was rather dreadful. She was not accessible outside of class (answering 1/4 of my emails) and her lectures are just regurgitations of the book. I studied countless hours for the final and still failed, as did everyone I know. Her midterms were difficult and you would often lost points without being told why. Do not take!!
Review the problems from lecture and do the homework and the exams are easy enough. Lecture notes were provided, but examples were solved in class only, not in her notes. Don't forget your calculator since you will always be solving problems.
She is awesome. She really cares about her students and updates us regularly on opportunities for study sessions and changes in the schedule. Her tests are not curved but the class is taught really well. We have days where we do examples, and lecture days. She is good to talk to after class if you . don't understand what is happening.
Doesn't post lecture notes online nor any example problems. Exams are unbelievable difficult with no study guides in advance. I ultimately switched classes because she obviously doesn't care whether her students pass or fail. She doesn't curve in the slightest, so if you fail, the curve won't save you.
Dr. Morgan was accessible outside of class, and she was helpful in her explanations. Her lectures can be pretty dry, they sometimes seem like she is reading from a textbook. Her tests are average difficulty for a Chem class. She holds review sessions before every exam. She also curved our class at the end.
Dr. Morgan is a nice professor, but her lectures can get a bit dry. She's very straight forward and teaches right out of the textbook. Likewise, tests have very few curveballs. She usually takes class time to review before an exam, which is great. She only responded to one of my three emails during the course, but I also wasn't very persistent.
Dr. Morgan tries her best to ensure that the majority passes. She curved the grade very well at the end of the semester. She usually responds to emails late, so I recommend visiting her in office hours to ask questions. I would suggest reading her slides to understand the concepts, but use the book for examples and extra practice (LOTS OF PRACTICE)
It seems like she does not care about the grades that students get. Her exams were difficult and had low averages. Lectures were boring and you did not learn much that wasn't already in the textbook. I had a friend retake her again and failed a second time while I got an A with a different professor. Truly awful.
I got an A in the class but... the exams were much lengthier on average than any I'd encountered before. The question difficulty was appropriate, however, and if you search for practice exam questions online beforehand, you'll do fine. Lecture was basic book material, so I practiced harder material on my own & in recitation.
Dr. Morgan's class is pretty straightforward. Don't expect to learn anything from the lectures, so its a lot of reading. However if you do the readings and the practice problems you should be fine. Her tests are HARD. Fair, but HARD.
Morgan is a dry lecturer. If you have no previous experience with the material (or even if you do), be prepared to read the textbook a bunch to understand the depth of the material. Morgan's slides are capable of introducing the content that you need to know, but you'll have to put in time outside of class to truly understand the material.
Dr. Morgan is overall a very great professor. Going to class and to office hours made understanding chemistry a whole lot easier. Other students did not like her, but I would say she is pretty fair in what she gives us. Exams and quizzes are not too difficult, but fair. She does a good job lecturing if you are paying attention to her.
Friendly, but not always helpful when explaining difficult concepts. Class was kind of pointless because she just read directly off her slides, which she posted. It was hard to know how you were doing in the class because a lot of grades weren't posted, but she curved up a lot at the end.
I encourage you to disregard prior posts about Morgan. I had her for chem 1 and chem 2, and she made a massive change this semester. She is more engaged, gives us way more examples, and is more caring about our grades. She definitely noticed how people saw her in past semesters and made heavy changes which is awesome and rare.
I have to say this is my worst class this semester. She is an extremely bad lecturer and she is not helpful at all with difficult concepts. Her examples in class do not at all match her exams. Her class is only 50 minutes and she gives way too many exam problems for a short time. I recommend to not take her if you did not take AP chem. Not good.
Dr. Morgans lectures are extremely basic and she does not prepare you for her lengthy and tough exams. Students are only given 50 minutes for her exams which are packed with meticulous amounts of information, making it very common & simple to make mistakes from rushing. She is a kind person, but her teaching is extremely poor.
DO NOT take Dr. Morgan. Her lectures are dry and the examples she gives in class and for homework are much easier than her exams. She spends a lot of time on easy things and like 2 minutes on the hard concepts. She gave us a bonus assignment to do in 5 minutes while brushed over super important information that our quiz was on the next week.
Although Prof Morgan is a good person, her lecturing is boring and super dry. Her exams are jampacked with tough problems in a 50 minute block and she is currently pretty behind in class. I would not recommend this class if you haven't taken AP chem or if you aren't good at fighting against the clock during exams.
She is dry, doesn't curve til the end, and definitely doesn't really care about students nor does she lecture all too well. You'll be stuck self-studying any and all topics you're unfamiliar with. The only plus side is that she has your past exams scanned and uploaded so you can access them online. I recommend you try and find another professor.
Lectures are extremely boring and she basically just reads from the powerpoint. You could honestly just not go and read the slides she uploads and be fine. Even if you go she does not really explain things well.
Dr. Morgan is nice but her lectures are dry and she reads off the slides which I find incomprehensible. I never took AP chem or bio and feel like she just went over a lot of stuff which I never learned. Her tests are extremely hard but if you request a regrade for one of her questions she is usually more than happy to give points back.
Dr Morgan will preface the class like any other general subject class "This is not a weed out class, I want all of you to pass". This is a lie. She will post "practice exams", which are fairly manageable. But the exams are literally NOTHING like the actual exams. She wants to misguide you. Skip lecture and read the textbook, prepare to teach yrself
Dr. Morgan claims in the beginning of the class that it is not a weed out class, which is not true. You do not learn a thing in lecture, she reads off of the slides. The worksheets she gives you as practice are not comparable to the exams, and the homework is extremely difficult, if you take her be prepared to buy chegg...
I took this course with an open mind but just found Morgan to be awful! Her explanations of concepts were wordy and confusing, and her sapling homework was way too difficult compared to what was taught in lecture. By the second half I stopped focusing on what she was saying and just read the book. Found reading the book much more clear & helpful.
Michelle Morgan, arguably the worst teacher I've ever had. I believe everyone is good at something, and for Dr. Morgan, that something is not teaching. Her lectures consist of monotone slide reading and rehearsed jokes that receive no reaction. Tests are fair even though I rely on my knowledge from HS chemistry. Never related material to real life!
Attending Morgan's lectures is an utter waste of time. She reads off of the slides (which aren't useful in the first place) and then uses the chalk board to draw pointless pictures that add nothing insightful. She will make simple concepts sound way more confusing than what they are and her tests are way too difficult for what she teaches.
Dr. Morgan should not be teaching- her lectures are built to put students to sleep and completely useless. I used to love chemistry and she made it one of the hardest things I've done in my life. She assigns ridiculously difficult homework and the exams do not match what she "teaches" in class. Just teach it to yourself.
Dr. Morgans class is an utter and complete waste of time. Her lectures are dreadful and her exams do don represent what she gives for homework or the examples she showcases in class. Would be much better off trying to teach yourself chemistry than allowing her to teach you. What youre given for practice than what youre given on exams dont match.
Dr. Morgans lectures are incredibly boring and her Sapling homework will teach you more than she will. She also goes so slow that she had to squeeze an entire chapter into the last 20 minutes of the semester. She then made it take up the majority of the final and added a question (worth 5% of the exam) that was only seen in the OPTIONAL homework.
Dr. Morgan is a very sweet and helpful person outside of class. However, she is a poor lecturer. She taught several integral concepts for the final within 15-20 minutes during the final lecture. For those with limited chemistry experience, I wouldn't recommend taking her class. Exams are very fair and objective, however. Not many curveballs.
Her class got worse as the semester went by and gave less examples and time for harder concepts. Her sapling homework helped way more than her lectures. If you take her course, do not rely on her lectures for teaching. The textbook, sapling homework, and office hours help more.
She's very unprepared and doesn't explain anything clearly. Notes are posted shortly before class. When teaching she goes so slow and skips between slides so much it's hard to figure out what she's even talking about. Exams are mostly open ended with a few multiple choice. Lots of homework (sapling). My TA was a godsend, only reason I did so well.
Very, very boring lectures that did not help me learn whatsoever. I had to teach myself the course. If you havent taken AP chem, take chem 1 a different professor.
All lectures are is Morgan reading off the slides. She covers way too much material in a lecture and doesn't explain concepts well. There were supposed to be multiple in class activities worth bonus points; there were two and one was done outside of lecture. Homeworks are way too long, though they are somewhat relevant to exam questions.
Lots of bad professors in the Chem department at Pitt. You'll be stuck self-studying a lot of the material. Class is passable if you engage yourself in homework and recitations. She posts all of her lectures online (she basically just reads off of them during class).
Lectures are useless and boring as she reads directly off slides and spends alot of time on basics rather than harder concepts which she puts on the test. Sapling homework was very helpful and questions were similar to ones on the exam. A breeze if you took AP chem but might be difficult if no chem background
I would have appreciated study guides or in-class explanations of what she was putting on the exam bc a lot of times it was our own guess of what to study. I also think it would be nice if she was a little clearer during her lectures bc (to me) the content didn't really click until I reviewed it later. I think she's an okay option overall though.
Dr. Morgan is one of the kindest professors on campus. Her lectures may be dry at times, but the content was straightforward. I always felt that her expectations were clear: out of all 3 exams, nothing was unfair or unexpected. Tip: PRACTICE QUESTIONS FROM THE TEXTBOOK. And go to office hours. She wants to help, and will if you do your part!
Very nice professor, accessible outside of the classroom. Her tests can be pretty challenging especially if you did not take AP Chem, so in order to do well, you must read the textbook and do the practice problems at the end of each chapter!
Just horrible. Not a single care about the success of her students
Professor Morgan is really nice to her students and knows her material, but her lectures can get boring and her voice can be a little annoying. Other than that shes a really good professor. Her exams are kinda challenging but if you go to lecture and study, you'll pass. Especially compared to some of the other chemistry professors, Morgan is good.
Dr. Morgan teaches directly from the textbook and absolutely nothing else. There are significant changes in difficulty from the book problems, quizzes, and exams. Often doesn't assign any book problems. Got A's in all previous chemistry classes but struggled immensely with Morgan because of how she constructs exams. Lectures are VERY dry.
Dr. Morgan's exams are much more difficult than the practice problems and lecture examples. I would study for hours with the material she had provided to us and still get a poor grade on the exams. It felt like no matter what I did, I would never pass her exams. Also, she assigns an absurd amount of Sapling problems. They took me forever.
Horrible "teacher". You don't learn anything by going to class. You have to teach yourself everything. She will try to teach you the first couple steps of solving problems and then expect you to know everything without teaching you. NO help prior to exams which are impossible. Worst class I've ever taken.
Remember that we were learning remotely because of the virus. She is a really sweet person, but I can't say I enjoyed her teaching. She reads off the slides for her lectures and for remote classes they are just recorded video lectures. Responds slowly to emails, if at all. Her tests are mostly fair but each question is worth a lot, so be careful.
Dr. Morgan did awful with the transition to online classes this year. She didn't respond to our TA and she didn't post the links for lectures and assumed we would find them on our own. When we were on campus, however, her class was decent. The tests were pretty much what we learned but her lectures are so boring it's hard to pay attention.
Was diagnosed with COVID-19 and emailed her asking how my condition would affect me in the course, and she never replied to my email. Very discouraging. Also would simply read off the slides and would spend an unnecessary amount of time on easy topics and not enough on the hard ones. Midterms had too many questions to be completed in 50 mins.
Michelle Morgan was seemingly nice, but her lectures were basically just her reading the slides to us. I, personally, never was able to focus due to boredom but I went to every lecture because she does TopHat a lot for points. Her exams are relatively similar to the quizzes in recitation. Overall a decent choice for chemistry.
Not a good teacher at all. Never replies to emails and never tells us what is on the test. Still has not replied to my email from the end of January. She just does the bare minimum and doesnt seem to care about actually helping her students learn.
I currently have her for a nursing chem credit. she simply reads the powerpoint slides and calls that teaching. her most recent test had an average of 77 and my score of 79 was in the high range. it is more than halfway through the semester and the only grades she has in are the exam grades so we have no idea what our actual grades are
Does not respond to emails or student demands. Refuses to curve tests unless the scores make her look bad. Refuses to specify which concepts will be on the test. I have been a straight A student my entire life and am struggling to get a C in this class. Does not seem to care about student success.
Ugh. Her lectures are the most boring part of my week. Somehow she still struggles with basic zoom concepts after 2 semesters of online learning. Do yourself a favor and just jot down the learning concepts and self-teach. You'll tear out less hair that way. STUDY FOR TESTS!!!!!!
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She rarely responds to emails and when she does, it is usually very late and very vague. Confusing lectures and struggles with the simple online learning concepts that she really should know by now. Also refuses to curve exams and offers no extra credit or help.
as a student who studies non-stop and loved previous chem classes, im failing with Morgan. She doesn't know how to teach, she just makes random statements that will make no sense to you if you have no chem experience. the majority of your grade is on tests that are written badly and graded harshly. don't even try to email her, she won't repsond.
She's very nice but just is not good at responding to emails, which is an essential aspect of her job as the class was online when I took it. If you have a question just go to office hours. The tests also do not accurately reflect what we learned in class so if you do not have a strong background in chemistry its nearly impossible to do well.
Michelle seemed nice but was VERY unaccommodating. She wouldn't respond to any of her students' emails, which is obviously frustrating. At one point there was a whole week of no class (right before a test, which she doesn't move under any circumstance) simply because she couldn't figure out Zoom. Not the best choice for Chem.
Dr. Morgan is very sweet however her teaching is unorganized and has no follow through or consistency. As an A student it was discouraging to be told bonuses and extra activities would become available and then were never posted. Lots of empty words. I would not recommend this class. Its not worth the GPA hit and hours outlining tbook
Had her for honors gen chem 1 lab. Gave us ridiculously long, monotonous lab reports (6-8 pages a week) compared to what non honors had. Graded reports super late so we didn't know the mistakes from each report and how to fix them. She also tells us how to do something but would mark it wrong. Her lab is the reason I did not take honors gen chem 2.
Professor Morgan is a great teacher. I have her in person and while her lectures are sometimes a little boring, shes very clear and does a ton of example problems. If you pay attention and practice the Achieve HW, youll ace every test. (She pulls a lot of test questions from the homework/ quizzes)
Pleasant person. But there were so many things she could've done to make a hard class marginally easier, and she did none of them. Refused to record lectures, did not post past exams, couldn't bother to host review. Self-teaching is necessary, but not too hard if you do the homework problems, since class is reading off slides and doing problems.
An awful class that I had to withdraw from just because I could not understand anything she taught and her exams were 3x harder than the homework. Will retake class. One exam question was a combination of 3-4 homework problems that took your time. Majority of the class did not get half of the first exam done. Not clear. Her "exam curve" was only 2%
This class will ruin your GPA. Her lectures do not include any math examples, and her tests are all math. You will not understand how to do any of her test problems, as they are so wildly different from any homework or quizzes. If you cannot teach yourself at a high level, do not take this class.
She is the worst professor I have ever taken in my life. She can't teach, or grade on time, extremely disorganized, and doesn't even curve. The averages of the tests were high 50's and she refuses to curve or give us any feedback. I have lost half of my hair from ripping it out dealing with her horrendous teaching and untimely graded. DONT TAKE HER
Awful. Takes weeks to grade and is an extremely harsh grader. Exams are extremely difficult and she doesnt provide any similar practice problems. Blames us when 90% of the class gets the same question wrong. Will not answer emails. Gives an excessive amount of busy work thats worth few points. Most disorganized professor Ive ever had.
Never written a review here before but she's compelled me to do so. Aside from her dry lectures which are essentially just reading off slides, her gradings a joke. Promised to grade exams in a week but for both she repeatedly came up with any random excuse as to why it wasnt graded. Doesnt answer emails. Im prob overreacting but she pisses me off.
Dr. Morgan is a caring person, but a very difficult professor. There is two exams and a final, all of which are extremely long and hard to complete within the time period. Impossible to know how you are doing in the class since grades were never published. She does give many example problems that are similar to exams which is helpful.
INSANE! Ridiculous that she is very nice but cannot teach. Impossible to pass the exams, doesn't curve even when entire class is struggling. Study insane amount of hours. Just defeated. Why would anyone take this professor considering the reviews... because they changed the professor at the last minute. Ruins GPA.
Getting a therapist this summer!
I've never cried over a class before but Morgan has singlehandedly managed to ruin my GPA. I don't know what I got on the final yet but it was impossible and I swear I failed. Take literally anyone other than her, i'd give her a 0 if I could
Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss She takes the gaslight and runs with it!
She literally makes my blood boil. She only teaches in rhetorical questions and run-on sentences which doesnt help students understand the material at all,and and gaslighted us into getting our exam grades back. I had to BEG her in an email to get my exam score back which I shouldnt have to as a student. Avoid her at all cost.
She is the worst. Extremely disorganized, and straight up lies to students about what she expects us to know for exams and about when we will expect grades for tests to be returned. Has zero care in the world for any of us. Don't take her.
Dr.Morgan is very smart and a very good professor IF you have the time to meet with her outside of class. Otherwise, her lectures are very confusing and hard to follow. She lied about curving our class at the end of the semester and does not give practice problems that are anywhere close to the difficulty of the exams.
Dr. Morgan was very nice but was so unorganized. She took several weeks to give back grades for exams, and would never post them when she said she would. She also never answers emails. Her exam questions are extremely difficult and often don't reflect the main concepts that were gone over in lecture. Don't take her!!
~HONEST REVIEW truths: disorganized, takes forever to get exam scores, lectures a bit dry, exams math-heavy, lots of examples in lecture not true: impossible exam ?s (application-based, welcome to college), lied about curving class (curves UP to C+ IF NECESSARY, gives tons of bonus), confusing lecture slides (everything is literally spelled out)
SO BAD i would give her a zero. but that's not possible. so i give her a 1.
God I would've had a 3.98 this semester if it wasn't for Morgan. She's genuinely the worst professor I've had. She doesn't respond to email, refused to curve even after the avg for the first exam was a 61 (with 5 bonus points) and a 70 smth (with 6 bonus points) on the second one. Avoid at all costs
I was left discouraged throughout this class. Was instructed to study materials for exam, which ended up being a small portion. After the exams I felt confused since we were never taught how to attempt many problems. However, although I did not have the best of luck in this class, if you took AP Chem in HS you should have a better understanding.
I've never gotten a D in a class before, which speaks for itself. Her class is hard because there's very little room to mess up, with a total of only 3 exams including the final. I was struggling throughout the semester and emailed her for help and accommodations for disability, which she never replied to. Disheartening honestly :(
Unbelievably bad. Her lectures were dry, disorganized and she is awful at communicating even simple concepts. Her exams are wildly difficult in comparison to the lectures, quizzes, and practice problems. Even with AP chem background this was hands down the worst, most difficult class I've taken. Cannot stress it enough - do NOT take Dr. Morgan.
Shelly really does not deserve to have a teaching spot at this University. She is a very sweet woman but a horrible professor. Very inaccessible and doesn't seem to care about students understanding of the material. This is the lowest grade I have ever gotten in a class and it is not because of a lack of hard work. Take literally anybody else.
She was extremely disorganized. Majority of your grade is based on 3 exams. Lectures were extremely dry, and you could have just followed the textbook to gain a better understand. Achieve homeworks were pretty helpful in preparing for the exams. She gave a lot of extra credit in an attempt to not curve our grades as much.
Do not take Dr. Morgan. She is incredibly inaccessible as she rarely responds to emails throughout the term + does not record lectures. She takes 2+weeks to give back exam grades (lying about when they will be out throughout those 2 weeks)+the exams (esp the final) were types of problems we never went over in class. Pls save ur GPA+$$+avoid her.
TERRIBLE!! Her tests were much harder than what she taught. Avoid taking her at all costs.
Michelle is a great prof for honors chem lab! It takes a while to warm up to her, but she really wants us to do well and always helps during lab. Much easier reports second semester but takes a while to grade them.
The exams made up about 42/43% of the course grade (had very low averages), and they were exponentially harder than the homework, textbook examples, or anything done in class. After extensive writing in hopes of being able to pass the class with a C (needed for my major), I got no response. Definitely felt like the class was not cared for.
Michelle was probably the worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures and practice problems were nothing compared to the exams. I could do all the practice problems but managed to fail the exams. The final had several things I had never seen before in her teaching. She is difficult to reach outside of class. Good luck if you get stuck with her.
passable but avoid. quizzes easy, exams unfairly difficult and not like lecture/ recitation. not reachable outside the classroom. lectures are her just reading the slides. never posted grades when she said she was going to.
She clearly knows the material and is excellent at explaining concepts if you stop in her office hour. BUT she is EXTREMELY unreliable when it comes to time-related tasks such as grading, publishing material, and exam prep. Her exams vary in difficulty and can be challenging if you don't literally study everything.
Dr. Morgan is a very sweet person (she would let us have sports/music on projector while doing lab!), but she is an awful lab instructor. Her lab is the main reason I am not taking HGC 2. We still have 5+ reports to get graded and she grades very harshly, taking off points for the tiniest of errors. I am assuming she is similar for GC 2, so beware.
disorganized. tests were hard (tho they did relate to the achieve hws) but the final was horribly brutal. our 2 exam avgs were Fs (61 and 66). she said she would curve the final if necessary. she never released the final exam avg but i asked via email and she said it was a C (which i feel like was impossible given its brutality). no clear grading.
She's a nice professor, very chill. However, labs were disorganized. She didn't finish grading the labs until like 4 days after we took the final exam. She's a tough grader on labs that you spend hours doing, and you can't even improve through the semester since she doesn't grade them in a timely manner. Don't do it if you're premed.
She really is a nice person, but her class was far from enjoyable. Exams were more difficult than they needed to be and you could tell she was very disorganized.
Dr. Morgan was not an easy professor to have. The exams were so much more complicated than they needed to be. She says that she doesn't curve but she did at the end. She's an okay option but I will be avoiding her for future classes
She just read off the slides. She rarely did any examples in class, you basically have to teach yourself everything. She never answers her emails and the TAs will be the only reason you survive unless you're good at teaching yourself everything.
rarely practiced problems in lecture. Exams very difficult. Study off the achieve homework is my best advice. Be prepared to teach yourself. Recitation quizzes were also way to hard and they hurt my grade more than helped it. class will deteriorate your mental health. Nice lady, helpful in office hours. Would recommend getting a tutor/ join co-lab.
I felt like her exams were fair, she included things from lecture and most of the open ended questions were pulled from achieve. I would recommend doing the book exercises to prepare for exams. You can always talk to her after class if you have questions. Chem 2 is hard no matter the teacher you get. You will pass as long as you try hard enough!
Lectures were extremely dry and could honestly go without them. Achieve problems are the best practice you could do for tests and quizzes, however, she may throw curveballs at you which could make questions hard to comprehend during exams. The quizzes were not terrible and gave a lot of extra credit. Sweetest lady ever, just not the best lecturer
Morgan Lectures are not good, I would just do other work during them. However her test are pretty fair and easy. You will do well on test and in her class by doing the hw and doing the problems in the textbook. you dont have to read the text book just do the example problems
Tests were really difficult and she never replied to any of my emails. The class is hard to begin with but the tests were really difficult to study for
Honestly shes not that bad. Had her for Chem 2. She said she doesn't curve but she does. She also drops 3 quizzes and 1 test, which is pretty amazing.
Dr. Morgan is very caring and helpful during the labs and at her office hours if you are struggling with your lab report. However, she is a very tough grader and doesn't give super clear instructions on what she is looking for, but if you find her outside of class, you can easily figure out how to do well. The lab reports do take lots of time.
She's really nice, and gives great feedback on reports. However, her grading is unclear sometimes. Take advantage of her office hours, they're so helpful. Lab reports take a long time, but its not horrible. Make sure you get a good lab partner, because you'll spend lots of time on reports.
I took this course during the summer. It was very fast paced but she tried her best to communicate and teach students. She always had office hours. The only downside was she took a little while to grade, but overall great professor!
Super nice! Most of this class was gen chem review which made it very manageable. Class isnt mandatory and she posts lecture notes ahead of time. Exams were not bad and very similar to practice material she gave ahead of time. Drops lowest exam, and it can be the final.
Surprised by the negative reviews, honestly the best Chem professor I've had so far. Solid amount of extra credit opportunities, exams were hard but not unreasonable if you study, the assigned HW isn't bad (full credit if ALEKS is 75% done), and no weekly quizzes (usually). Also, very nice and not condescending if you have questions.
This is the worst class ive ever taken
Doesn't teach. Makes no sense. Her tests are impossible and her lectures do not help at all. Do not take her class.
worst professor ever. she doesn't respond to emails and her only practice is the aleks and that barely helps. sometimes she will give practice assignments but they're nothing like the test.
Her lectures are unbearably boring. She explains everything very poorly and does so in the most mind numbingly bland way possible. And then her tests are unnecessarily hard, and she mocks the class about making the test easier with no intention of doing so. Horrible.
Do not take her for Chem 2 if you have the choice. The very few example problems she gives are nothing like exams, and she can not lecture. You are better off learning everything by yourself or quite literally guessing on exams in some cases. Please avoid this class.
Lectures do not help. Shes nice but dont be fooled her exams r so difficult. Aleks does not help at all. Does not communicate thru emails!! Literally will be teaching urself the material all semester long lol... u think u know what ur doing until u take the exam and fail. Exams r so time consuming, sometimes I could barely finish them on time
Such a lovely lady, but my god, is she terrible at teaching. Her lectures are nearly impossible to pay attention to and rarely structured well. A lot of the chemistry professors at Pitt are not the best, but do yourself a favor and do not take Michelle Morgan.
Do not take her class
teaching style is awful, exams are extremely hard and lecture based, she uses aleks as a homework which is not helpful and just extra work
Dr. Morgan is honestly an awful chemistry professor. Her lectures and practice problems seem straightforward, but her exams are so unfair. Thankfully I took AP Chem and have seen a lot of the material before, but if I hadn't I wouldn't have passed. Don't take her unless you have to!!!
Dr. Morgan was not my cup of tea. We had 4 midterms, which one we could drop, and a cumulative final. She would explain a lot of conceptual things during lecture, but she had close to no example questions in class. This did not make any sense because on tests we would always have application based questions.
Her lectures made absolutely no sense, I had to teach myself everything which was incredibly difficult to do considering this material isn't common knowledge. The exams were impossible and most of my class failed every exam. Don't take her if you want to pass chem 2.
Professor Morgan was an amazing professor. The lecture notes were always posted and completed so if you missed class or didn't go it was easy to follow along. Aleks can be annoying but also reinforce concepts necessary for the exams. She was also very easy to talk to after class and was available by email appointment. 4 exams + a drop and a final.
This is the single worst professor I've had in my entire life. She gives practice worksheets but the problems are nothing like what she gives you on the tests. Tests are basically impossible no matter how much you study and she is an awful lecturer. I only started getting better grades when I stopped going to class and taught myself. Avoid!!!
do not take this class. Most lectures are her just reading slides that dont explain anything that is necessary to pass. Barely any practice problems/ recourses to study with. And she grades harshly, its also due to the tests being impossible. Put in a lot of time and go to office hours if you take this class, you will need it
Dr. Morgan is a really nice and sweet professor, however, lectures were not helpful and her tests (the major issue with her class) were horrible because there was a very limited number of practice problems that properly prepared you, grading was harsh and horribly inconsistent, and there were constant errors in the answer key. Would not recommend.
do not take this class. so much homework that does not help with content at all. she is inaccessible and does not respond to emails and makes the class much harder than it needs to be. the only reason i did not completely fail all of her exams was due to crambetter which helped me to understand the material better than she could teach it
Professor Morgan was okay. While she does a good job explaining concepts, the class averages on midterms were always low as the difficulty of lecture problems was not enough to prepare for exams. I did well due to a site called CramBetter. It had videos relevant to this course, and their practice problems were near the difficulty of exams.
while dr. morgan is a nice person, her teaching abilities are questionable. class is pretty much just lectures, but tests are a different story. some of the open ended questions on the tests i hadn't even SEEN before taking the exam. while the class is not impossible, do as many practice problems as possible and use all resources.
Dr. Morgan isn't as bad as everyone says once you learn what resources to use. Exams are difficult and not very similar to anything given in class but she posts textbook problems to use as practice and those prepared me well for exams. Occasional homework and ALEKS sucks but she does provide random bonus opportunities in lecture or recitation.
DO NOT TAKE her lectures put you to sleep, and she gives you very less practice problems, which are easy, but then throws curveballs during the exam. Her average was in the 60s for midterms. CHEM 0120 is hard as it is skip her.
HELLO?? Dr. Morgan is NOT bad. Her lectures were dry, but her midterms were easy and fair if you actually paid attention during lecture/recitation/lab and did the ALEKS. Every single person I know who did poorly in this class just immediately gave up "bc she's so bad" without trying first. Literally just study. Easy A if you passed AP Chem exam.
Morgan deserves more than her rating here. Her lectures can be dry, but she is thorough. Her exams are lecture heavy so you must pay attention. She is honestly a sweetheart-- bring specific questions to her after class/ in office hours and she will slowly guide you through each step. Although, she did not allow enough time to finish the exam.
Other than having dry lectures and not giving nearly enough time for certain exams, I can't see why Dr. Morgan is rated so poorly. She is very sweet and will answer questions at the end of lecture. Textbook is free. She also only required 75% completion of ALEKS. Just actually show up, pay attention, do ALEKS, and you will do great.
Dr. Morgan is a kind person, however if you are trying to balance this with any other science class like Bio, you can't. She over complicates material, her practice problems aren't similar to the exams, and she is a heavy lecturer. I would avoid taking her at all costs if you're a premed student.
class average of 60% on exams and somehow dr. morgan thinks this is normal & does nothing to improve her teaching. avoid at all costs. nice teacher but absolutely terrible professor.
She's really nice, lectures are boring and she kind of just reads off her slides but if you pay attention and do the work assigned, you'll do just fine.
Midterms are impossible, lectures are uninformative, a lot of homework that does not correlate with the subject matter on the midterms, unresponsive to emails, needs an answer key in hand to answer her own midterm questions, and no accommodations for illnesses. On top of everything, she is just an unpleasant human to talk to. She tries to break you
SAVE YOURSELFthis woman brought me to my lowest pointShe rambles all lecture no demonstrations or practice and has no idea what she is teachingEvery single midterm exam was below-passing average and instead of curving she lets you drop one exam which is POINTLESS if you did not do good on any of them WILLNOT ANSWER EMAILS donteventry gives0practice
Professor Morgan is primarily a chemistry teacher, but she also teaches entry-level English classes. As a freshman who took AP Lang and Lit in high school, her composition class was just busy work with lots of writing assignments and minimal direction. She also NEVER responds to her email.
I think she was great to have for Chem120 or 420. She taught from slides that she posted, did practice questions basically every class, final was all multiple choice, and you get to drop lowest midterm. If you come to class/ take notes on the slides, do the recitation practice, homework, and do the practice questions she recommends you're fine
By far the most unorganized class I've taken. Heavily rely on the textbook; doesn't explain well in lecture. Some midterm questions she never talked about in class. You learn from the textbook or needed background knowledge. Average was 60% on tests, but no curve. Lets students drown because of poor teaching style. Take a different professor.
ATTEND LECTURE, she gives extra credit sometimes in class. exams are hard, her averages were 60% for exams and no curves given. I will say, the best study materials are textbook chapters(for conceptual questions), the recitation worksheets and quizzes, and STUDY MIDTERMS FOR THE FINAL! She not great at lecturing, but her materials are helpful.
I liked her lectures and she was very accessible for office hours. Lecture attendance is important, I felt like I missed a lot when I was sick. Her tests were fair, other than the 3rd midterm which felt too long/difficult for the time we had to finish it. She gave lots of bonus points but does not curve! Don't procrastinate on the homework
She offers many extra credit opportunities and holds lots of office hours every week. If you do the homework, attend lectures, and do practice problems from the OpenStax textbook, you should be able to earn a good grade in the class.
You cannot convince me she's a bad teacher. Even if you don't go to class, as long as you do the homework and look over her lectures you will know everything you need to know for the exams. I didn't go to a single class after October and got a 100 on the final by just looking over her past exams and homeworks. Put in the work and you'll succeed.
Her lectures were pretty dry, but for the most part were all you really needed to understand all course material. The textbook practice problems she posts are never to the level of the exams, but if you practice using recitation problems you'll be fine. Very kind and accessible outside of class with lots of extra credit opportunities.
Went to all her office hours, talked to her after every class because it was the ONLY time the teacher was accessible as it took 3 days to answer her emails or never answered them.Thought her 50% averages on test were FINE.... but would purposely make the test a puzzle and only 50 minutes for questions she would take 7 minutes to answer for 1!!!
