She was not good at explaining the "why"s of things. When mistakes were pointed out, we spent time proving that she was right. She didn't seem approachable and she gave me no more information than I found in my textbook.
I asked for help & was told we went over it in class & what page it was on in the text. I had worked the problem 5 times already, and had read the text. Dr. More is intelligent and is great at chemistry but has a hard time conveying the concepts and math to the students; research is her calling
If you went to class, and did the homework- easy pass.
gives too much work!
well i kinda have had this class in highschool so i understand it all. the students just dont understand her, she never gives HW she has test everyweek that i pass easy and i fall asleep in the back ever class, she tries to explain but i just dont think teaching is her forte. she lacks the imaginary to describe things well to the students. i would tell u more but i sleep all class so i dont really know much more about her.
Not bad. She assigned about 50 homework prlblems out of the book a week. This class is supposed to be for nurses and engineers but she teaches like every one was a nurse. Also sit in the front of the class she likes those students better.
I really appreciate her effort and fun factor. I recommend her to anyone.
Great teacher & class. Has a good personality, she's really funny!! Good lectures, she tries to keep them interesting. If you go to class you will get a good grade. Print out the quizes before hand and fill them out, it helps improve your gade by at least 20%!!
This was a hard class. I attended every day and studied and still pulled C's and D's on tests. She is willing to help if you ask questions, yet still makes you feel stupid for asking. Did not give quizzes only 5 tests and a final. She throws tricky questions and does not believe in structured review sheets. Must know all information.
light homework
Great personality--she's quite funny and fairly kind as long as your not a total dumbass. Admittedly, she was a bit impatient with those who couldn't handle basic math (it is college after all) but she's very good at explaining chemistry, often relating it to people and relationships. Great class, highly recommended
Such a fun and entertaining teacher! Extremely helpful as well as knowledgeable.
AMAZING online class. Easy to get a good grade if you do your work. Tests are easy and you can take a hand written "cheat" sheet to the tests. Quizzes and assignments online from home. She gives you an agenda of what is due every week and tells you when she will have things graded, and she follows through on that. Great teacher and class
She is way easy and helful
Easy to pass the class as long as you do your homework and go to class. The tests were really easy.
Smart women really knows her stuff but she is not good at relating to the students. Makes them feel stupid in front of the whole class
Well I took the online class. It was fairly easy. Read the chapter, quizes are open book. She lets you use a page of notes on the tests. Other than that the homework assignments are fairly simple. Nice lady!
She tries hard to teach in a way we'll all understand, but everyone was scared to ask questions cuz she makes you feel like an idiot. Encourages talking to her about your test scores but then just makes you feel worse. Don't bother reviewing the test with her, useless.
she was extremely hard.. has a high fail rate!!
I took this class online and it was fairly easy. All the materials are very well organized and the assigments are easy. She lets you make notes for the exams, but the exams are still fairly hard. Great professor!
Dr. More is an excellent teacher. I was not one of her best students by any means, but she was always willing to help, and still is even a year after taking her class. She is only hard on students she doesn't think is putting forth an effort in her class. You work hard for you and she'll treat you with respect.
I took the online class and found it to be very easy. She lets you have a page of notes for the tests but they are still pretty tough. The class work was very easy and understandable.
She was very hard. She made comments that were unexeptable for a teacher to say to a student. She made a lot of people feel stupid for asking questions.
I just received my A.S., and let me tell you that this was the hardest undergraduate class I've had. Maybe I am not good at chemistry, but the work she required was quite a bit for an intro class. She does let you have notes for exams and her quizzes are open book. She graded tough on essay questions. She is very clear on her assignments, but be pr
She was a very helpfull professor. Always there any time you have questions. If you get an answer wrong, She will let you know why. No guessing in her class. You will learn and be sure of your knowledge.
Professor More is a great instructor. She teaches in a variety of ways to communicate the material clearly. She has review days for the quizes, plenty of practice problems, and time set aside to show you personally if you need it. She does a couple of neat experiments for the class at the beginning of the semester too.
she is really smart, she drops your 2 lowest test scores and lowest lab. it was not as bad as i expected chemistry to be. i'd suggest her. i expect to get an A- or B+ in this class
Professor More grades very fairly and answers questions clearly. There is a test on each chapter with around 20 questions, the majority of which are straightforward. I had a basic chemistry course in high school, but otherwise no chemistry background and had no problem on More's tests after reading the chapter and scanning the homework she assigns.
I have this class online and she's a fair instructor. She's clear on what needs to be done each week and sends out weekly emails to remind you what needs to be done. One of her tests was fairly hard, but she lets you have a cue sheet during the test. She's responds to emails quickly (within the day).
Dr. More is a great lab instructor. She was always helpful when you had questions and was really laid back. I will try to take more classes and labs from her.
This professor came off as incredibly arrogant. I don't recommend taking her class if you are not a good tester. 80% of the grade is based on tests 20% based on lab. It sucks when you get 100% on all the labs and can't manage above a 65% on tests! They are the sort of tests that are set up to trick you :(
This is the type of class that you have to completely focus on during lecture unless you want to teach yourself from the book. she comes off as arrogant but she is still helpful at trying to answer questions, she's just not good at dumbing it down. The tests are pretty hard so you gotta know your stuff backwards and forwards. Overall she's good tho
If you are not a chemistry major then your head might explode in her class.
I really like Pro. More. She make you work for the grade. Just don't ask dump questions in her class because she will put you in your place. She doesn't mess around.
Do not take this class from this prof, the tests are ridiculously tricky.
who uses a different book to make quizzes? like really, she is ridiculous. dont take this class from her!
Hilarious/entertaining. Just make sure you do the homework and go to class...and it is also very helpful to read the chapter. If you ask stupid questions, she'll let you know, but if you work hard and do what you're supposed to, she knows and treats you better. I would highly recommend this class/teacher to anyone who has a good sense of humor.
Professor More is a nice teacher. She says she wants everyone to do well however she also expects half the class to fail. she thinks it's becuase they won't try hard enough. But I took her 1110 class and I promise you no one studied harder then me. and I'm still going to end up with a D. All your graded on is the exams and even though she thinks th
I am NOT good at chem. I took this course because I failed it once before and need to bring up my GPA. Moore is very fair. Our class was struggling and she added 15% to our quiz scores (Generous? Yes, especially compared to other professors!) Again, I am no good at chem but I ended up with a B+. Not bad for someone who sucks at chemistry!
She is a great teacher, very funny! She knows her stuff and is willing to help. She goes over all the homework assigned in class, and will answer any question. You need to do your homework and read, otherwise the tests are tricky. Overall though, I recommend taking this class from her she is awesome!
Knew what she was talking about. Somewhat rude when answering questions but gets her point across.
Not too bad, not too great. She knows what she's talking about but if you don't catch it the first time, she might be kind of mean trying to explain it a second time. Tests are average difficulty.
I hate chemistry but she made it interesting. I liked to listen to her because you can tell she truly loves chemistry. She tried to get students to feel the same way. My only issue was the quizzes, which were a bit difficult, but the tests are easier and based off the quizzes, lecture and textbook. She gives you a list of what you should study.
I DO NOT recommend taking chemistry from her, at least not online. The tests were ridiculously hard, many questions were not covered in the book, and a couple were opinion based and had nothing to do with actual chemistry. I was struggling and she never addressed it. I'll be lucky to get a C.
Professor more is a competent chemist but somewhat unprofessional to work with when you have a legitimate concern. Test grading is completely arbitrary. She will mark an identical answer as wrong for one student and right for another. Test are very difficult and she does little to help you prepare.
Prof More is extremely arrogant and unhelpful. She has no problem belittling students infront of the entire class. Would never reccomend her to anyone. I did all the homework and read the chapters twice but have not passed one test. The averages score for the first two tests were 62 and 52. All my labs were done right but my highest score was a 75.
OMG! Don't take this class from her! She would be great instructing students with multiple years experience n chemistry, but absolutely can not get her points across to beginners. She is an awful teacher to learn from and very inconsistant.
This class was BY FAR the WORST class I have ever taken. I read the chapters twice, did all the homework twice even though homework is not graded, and never missed a class. She is very arrogant, and puts students down in class. Test averages were 62%, 53%, and 58%. Do yourself a favor, and take it from someone else!!!!
Dr. Paustenbaugh is very good at lecturing, although it can get a bit monotonous. The quizzes were always longer than the actual exam, and it took me a lot of time to finish them even though they were open book. Most of the quiz questions are written poorly, making them difficult to answer.
It's an easy class. She lets you use one sheet of notes for every test and every quiz is online, open book, and you have a full week to do it (do it in portions if you can) she doesn't use a microphone so if you're in a big class make sure to sit in the front.
She is a horrible teacher. she gives expansive lectures and doesn't have a point or says it in an incomprehensible manner. her quizzes take forever and are worded quite poorly and take forever, she lets you have a page of notes with you on the test, but they're still worded it seems to confuse and so many still don't do well.
tests you on things that arent apparent in material or in lecture. knows her stuff but doesnt know how to teach it.
She is a fun teacher, but her quizzes and tests, actually test your knowledge, and make you think. It has no math though which was nice.
If you have little experience in Chemistry, don't take an intro class from her. She's very smart, but she's terrible at explaining topics. I agree with other reviewers; grades are arbitrary, and tests are ridiculous. She's rude and arrogant. Take 1110, 1120, or even 1210 from someone else. I had never gotten below an A in my life before this class.
Excellent professor! Encourages questions, and is patient in explaining concepts. Will present concepts in different ways to ensure students understand. Expects students to pay attention in class, study and do quality work. Those who don't like her are those who expect good grades without earning them. Fast response to emails.
She does know her stuff, but she is better suited to teaching upper level classes since she is arrogant and insulting to those of us who were not taking chemistry as a major. If you don't know math, be prepared for a lecture on how important it is. I would definitely recommend someone else. I DID work hard, do homework & still got a C.
She does not understand most of the material that she finds on the internet. She had troubles solving most of her Chemistry problems on the board. She told us to use our intuition when we asked her a question.
This is a hard class. I believe she knows her stuff and if you ask a question she will make you feel inadequate. I felt better asking her questions in private. I liked her, but you definitely need to study and her tests were hard. Just pay attention to what she is teaching and don't goof off and you will be fine.
3 midterms (80%), final (20%), no assigned homework. All her tests build on concepts that she teaches throughout the semester, if you don't study, you won't pass. I asked some extremely stupid questions to test what everyone else was writing here, she answered the questions and then thanked me for asking them. If you want to learn, take her class.
Avoid taking Chemistry from Dr. Paustenbaugh. She goes at her pace, really doesn't care much if you grasp the very unclear concepts or not. Her tests had not a single concept of what was taught in class. Quite ridiculous and is very arrogant.
She reads the book-publisher slides verbatim. Only these slides tend to have errors in them. She says to read the book, which is less helpful than the slides...with TYPOS in them. My main complaint is that I wish she would teach. A monkey can read slides. Oh, and don't ask a question. I'm a 3.5 cgpa senior and will retake this class. Terrible.
Although she knows what she's doing, she's not very helpful when you go to her with questions and treats you like an idiot.
Although she is a tough teacher, you will learn the information well. She cares about the students who care about her class. Although it is hard to get an A in her class, it is possible. Her tests are hard, but fair. Chemistry is not an easy subject to learn, and therefore teaching it is usually rather hard. She is a good teacher, but info is hard.
Avoid taking chemistry from Dr. Paustenbaugh. Chemistry is hard enough as it is, find a better option. The online homework doesn't prepare you for her tests--she doesn't look at it. Her tests are designed to trick you rather. The labs will never correspond with what is being taught in lecture. As mentioned by others, her powerpoints suck.
She is very nice, wants people to learn, but she is very spotty on her teaching. She is available to help you, but I couldn't understand anything she was trying to teach. Her tests are ok, if you STUDY! The only problem is knowing what to study since class and powerpoints are not helpful.
She knows a lot about chemistry, but doesn't know how to teach simple concepts to those who aren't majoring in chemistry. Her tests are more aimed to trick you rather than test you, and most of the online homework doesn't correlate with her tests. The only reason I passed was because she allows a notecard on the tests, otherwise I would be lost.
I don't normally rate professors, but this teacher really made me want to. Her teaching style is all over the board and most of the time we worked on in-class work sheets. She used notes that she did not prepare, and they were filled with mistakes. Her assigned homework did nothing to prepare us for the test. Don't take a class from her.
She teaches by the slides that someone else wrote. She doesn't write her own test questions either. The lecture, homework and book will not entirely cover her tricky test questions. Homework had very little to do with the test and was often very difficult. I wouldn't advise taking this course from this Professor. She is available to help.
She has a difficult time going at teaching at the rate of understanding of the students, rather than the rate of what she understands. Many students in the class get frustrated when they ask her questions and she blows them off. However, she knows her stuff and will answer questions if you get her one on one. Class is hard, so be prepared to work.
Professor checked in with us each week to let us know what needed to be done and what was to be expected. The quizzes were helpful in studying for the exams and the study guides for the exams were extremely helpful and you are allowed to use a full piece of paper for your exams. Definitely recommend.
I took this class over the second block of summer semester,so we didn't have much time to cover all the material.Dr. Paustenbaugh spent most of the time giving advice rather than teaching. She assigned a lot of busy homework, which wasn't bad. You have to self teach yourself,to be successful in the class. Exams are easy plus she allows a note card!
I took this class online, and it was a complete joke. my neighbor and I had the same class and everything. we would do our homework together and found TONS of contradicting info, and on some of the same questions on assignments, hers were right and mine were wrong. the tests have about 40% from the review, the rest aren't even in the book- useless.
Dr P has changed her style. She now uses ALEX, which is useful, but a lot of work; don't overload the semester. She repeats tough concepts; goes fast on easy stuff. All of Weber's chem 1210 labs are badly written with zero explanations. None of Weber's chem profs are especially good, try SLCC. Stuck at Weber, then Dr P is the best so far.
Michelle has a reputation as a terrible professor, but thats just because she teaches a hard class. She is one of the most encouraging and understanding teacher's I've ever had. EXPECT A LOT OF WORK! The only reason you'll struggle is if YOU don't do the work. She's more than happy to help you however she can. She has a lot of good advice. Take it.
She only teaches about half the material, and she will insult you for asking questions. Ask anyway, but grow a tough skin. The other half of the material you'll have to find online, through ALEX or Khan Academy. The attitude for all math and science at Weber is if you don't know it already you shouldn't be here. Buyer beware.
Dr. P knows chemistry, but she doesn't go over the material very well in class. She expects us to learn what she's going to teach with the online homework before the lecture. She does care about helping everyone out though. She gives a lot of small easy quizzes in class then drops the lowest few to help your grade.
Dr. Paustenbaug is awesome!! Loved her class and her enthusiasm for Physical Chemistry! Hard class.. and you have to work for the grade. Yet, she is more than fair on grading and exams. The lab write-ups suck! But, they are one of the most beneficial aspects of the course and allow one to really absorb the lab material.
Very important to stay on top of the homework, or else it will be difficult to do well on the exams. She is the hardest grader that I have had in the chemistry department. Make sure you have a good amount of time to spend on this class. The lab reports take a long time to complete. She used pogil to teach our class which I wasn't a fan of at all.
Very important to stay on top of homework. I felt like there was a lot of useless online homework that was more just busy work. But I felt like she explained the material thoroughly and well. Her tests can be tough though and she is happy with a 65% average. Otherwise, I really liked her and she does lost of assignments/quizzes to boost your grade.
I took Chem 1210 and 1220 from Dr. P and learned a lot. Her class requires a lot of work out of class, but she is good at using lecture time to help you understand the harder concepts. She covers everything in class that will be on the exam. She is good at giving book problems for a study guide. The book is a must, so you can do book problems
Dr. P is a tough teacher, and gives you lots of homework. I am in my senior year of my bachelors degree so I've seen heavy courses and hers takes the cake. You will have a no personal time if you take her class. I think its to scare off the pre-med students who aren't dedicated. If you make sure you know how to do the homework, you will pass.
Honestly i thought Dr. P was super cool. I had to spend more time on her class than any other class which made it difficult to get my other homework and other priorities done, but i felt that she clearly wanted her students to have a sound understanding.
Dr. P was very nice and caring, however, this class was the hardest thing I've ever taken. There is a LOT of homework. There was usually an assignment a day plus one larger assignment each week plus the lab homework. Also, there was usually a quiz in class everyday. I've never struggled so much in a class before. Tests are really heavily weighted.
Dr.P is awesome. She is big on participation and attendance. Hard content if you don't pay attention. Ask questions and show up and study. Pop quizzes randomly.
What a wonderful and helpful Professor. Like really. She will make you work your butt off but really, she cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She is dedicated to her work. I've never had to work as hard as I have in this class but, I feel like I've learned a lot from Dr. P.
This class was pretty intense to do well you will have to sacrifice a lot of time but you will learn chemistry. Dr. P explains things in a way that really make sense. She is one of those teachers that makes you do the reading before coming to class and that's hard but it really helped. She's great!
Dr. P is nice, but this class is extremely difficult. Only take it if you need to. Dr. P openly claims to not be a visual learner or teacher, so often her lectures are hard to understand. Her homework is not very useful for practicing for the test. Her grading is inconsistent. I found I learned the material best by reading the book and going to SI.
Dr. P is a great teacher. Her classes are hard don't get my wrong but it's very possible to get an A. Assignments consist of one Smart Work assignment due every day, one big assignment due every week, and pre-lab/lab due every week with four tests and a final. I personally really enjoyed this class. Scared at first but I loved it. Taking 1220 next!
Would not recommend! This teacher proceed to call me not smart in front of the ENTIRE class and told me to change to my major because it would be to hard for me to finish. She then told me to to drop the class and to quit wasting her time instead of giving me guidance and help to pass her class. Very hard and time consuming. Not for everyone!
I enjoyed this class don't get me wrong it is hard but not impossible if you but In the time and work you can get an A.
Although I'm sure she could be great for others, her teacher method did not work for me. I took this class and was convinced I couldn't understand chem and felt I was teaching myself. She was a little offhand to the people asking questions. If you think you don't get chem, just take it with a different professor. That worked better for me :)
You could honestly teach yourself through the textbook and pass. Still, she presents each concepts with high detail and is willing to help outside of class. I primarily adored her weekly motivational speeches. Exams were interpreted exactly as the practice problems and assigned homework.
Dr. Paustenbaugh is so great. She can come off really blunt at first, but she really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. She is very open to students coming to her for help, and the 1 on 1 help I was able to get was the only reason I've been able to pass the tests (I'm terrible at chemistry). Get ready to work hard :).
Dr P is fantastic. She has a passion for teaching and chemistry that is reflected in her lectures. She cares about her students and wants to help you succeed in any way she can. I took Chemistry For Engineers (Chem 1230) from her, and it is a very difficult class. There is a lot of homework for the course. But she does her best, and is a delight.
Dr. P has weekly quizzes, so be sure to stay on task and do all the suggested homework. Shes quite forward; however, lacks comments on reports. I enjoyed doing POGIL lessons together as a class.
She's a nice person but has a hard to follow teaching style. I studied by using her learning outcome pdfs, the paper she gives out each morning (usually the type of questions on exams), and ai. Homework's not too bad but is a bit time consuming. Overall, not too bad of a class just have to learn a lot of the topics on your own.
