Professor Randall is TERRIBLE! Shes constantly changes her mind on what she expects on exams. She looks at you like your stupid if you ask her to repeat herself. shes rude and assumes that everyone who takes her class will not understand art without every detail of her lectures. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is a teacher that knows what she is talking about however she expects you to know too. She talks down to students.Never ask a question because she really does not like answering them. She has a very nasty attitude, she is very rude. She really thinks people who take art100 really knows everything about art.It was to be a learning class.NOT
She is not a horrible teacher at all! She will sometimes change her minds on paper, but that's usually for your benefit. She expected us to know what she knew (c.i. class) BUT had no problem explaining it. She was very enjoyable and fun and we joked and talked constantly in that class. She is very nice and always willing to help you.
Expects too much out of her students, especially for an 100 level class. I'd take it with someone else. Exams are tough, even if you do go to class and try and take notes.
The class was not hard if you studied the review game questions and knew all the info from her lectures and the paintings mentioned. She has a strong passion for art and lets its show. Nice prof.
Very helpful, she is willing to help you with anything you do not understand. Study vocab and you'll pass!
Her exams were not hard if you studied and I had no interest prior to class but during it I started to get interested in art history. One of the easiest classes Ive had my first semester here. I recommend her for art history.
This class was extremely interesting. She used PowerPoint and video for all examples. The exams were not hard at all, and I barely had to study. This was a super easy gen ed course. I highly recommend it!
LOVED having her as a prof. There is a lot of writing involved, but if you ask questions, she will basically give you everything you need to get an A. Any sources or "smoking guns" you need to make a paper great, she helps with a lot. Great for a CI course!
I was not interested in this subject prior to taking the course, but Mrs. Randall's enthusiasm and helpfulness made me want to learn about art history.
She does her best job she can with this class. Overall the class is boring but it is pretty easy.
Enjoyed this class with her a lot. Makes the class interesting for those with no art background. Gives study guidelines for all tests, which are multiple choice and covers exactly what is gone over in class. Has review days before tests to ask questions and see sample questions. Great choice of professor and class to fulfill the gen ed requirement.
Took Art Understanding with her as a CI. Her lectures were really interesting, but the assignments were confusing and she was a tough grader for a 100-level class. She says she'll take re-writes for papers.
Presentations are easy and basically what you pass by. The 3 papers are graded very harshly, She claimed on every single paper of mine that I failed to argue my thesis even though I wrote 10 pages with credible source and plainly stated topic sentences. She is a stuck up art major thinking she is better than others, an educated hipster of the arts
Harsh grader for papers if you take ART130! as a CI course. Really unclear with what she wants in her papers. Lectures in class are interesting but have nothing to do with assignments or writing papers. Only thing that brings your grade up are group presentations.
Super easy, but super boring! She is great because she understands that you are most likely taking this class just to get a gen ed credit for it.. it is hard to fail this class lol. It is boring if you aren't interested in art.. but it's worth it. A lot of group projects, no papers, and 3 exams.
Professor Randall is beyond rude. She talks down to her students and expects them to all be art majors. Her class is easy for the most part except she grades really harsh. I have not received a A on anything even when I work on it for days. I would not recommend her class for anyone who isn't an art major.
WOW .. this class is interesting and exams were easy for me as international student. I got an A she was helpful. but maybe in ART130 she changed =| !!
Could probably teach better, she only has powerpoints with pictures and barely any words so you really have to pay attention to what she says to take good notes. Go to class and get your points for the group projects on movies because it can really help you if you do poorly on the exams. So pretty much, just go to the class.
Her power points are all pictures... no words so taking decent notes can be difficult. She also wanders off the subject in lecture. She does have decent study guides and she is really nice. Kind of a blow off class. I don't have any other art teacher to compare her with, so take her if you need to she isn't bad.
Her lectures are boring and mostly have pictures so you have to pay attention and take notes. As long as you do that and follow her study guide you will do fine. The group projects are also pretty easy.
Expects you to remember every detail (date, artist, style, technique, etc) of every slide until class before exam when she cuts the list in half. That's still 50 slides sometimes. Good luck if you're bad at memorization. Rambles and goes off-topic frequently.
Super easy! She gives you a study guide at the beginning of the semester for her exams. Just study the definitions on them and you'll do fine. She also reviews before the test which is super helpful!
She is a great teacher and I will definitely be taking art 202 with her as well since the courses go together! The textbook price was outrageous but I found it better to be bought at the bookstore since it came with all of the slides! If you go to class and take notes with the slides you will do great! Lots of exams but only so you can remember inf
I, personally, did not enjoy this class or Professor Randall. She is subtlety condescending at times and just really isn't a pleasant individual in general. She is a harsh grader when it comes to writing and has very high expectations. Two papers, two presentation (one group, one individual). It's a tough A. I would not recommend.
She knows her stuff but the class is just a boring class because nobody is there to actually learn about art, just for their gen. ed. She tries to make it interesting, but it is a lost cause. Pay close attention to her powerpoints because half of the exams are based solely off the slides. Her study guide also helps.
Professor Randall is awesome! If you're not into Art--yes the lecture can be boring, but that can be said for any class. She definitely knows her stuff, and you can tell she has a passion for art. You will work in groups often in this class, but the assignments are a piece of cake. Highly recommend her, and I will take her again for sure.
8 group projects. She will normally let you out a little early. Lectures are dry but as long as you take notes you'll be fine. You don't need the book to pass, but you should use it as reference. One extra project in case you missed a group projects. Exams are easy. There are three.
If you like long, extremely boring lectures and doing assignments that are mandatory but won't receive any credit for, then you should take this class. If you don't like any of that stuff, then I recommend not taking this class.
Small group projects usually once a week , but just answering questions from a video. Tests are easy if you show up to class everyday. She's very clear on her information, and hints during classes with what will be on the test. I love her because she also knows a lot of random facts and keeps the lectures interesting.
Her presentations have no words just pictures and she talked so fast that I couldn't keep up sometimes. I really don't like her as a person or a teacher. If you need Art History, don't take it with her. The only nice thing that happened the whole semester was we could use our notes on the test.
The lectures can be boring at times and she can be a tad condescending. She does want her students to succeed and gives review days before tests. A few group activities, we usually got out early by at least a few minutes. She does know a lot about what she teaches.
Really good professor, class was easy if you paid attention and did the work.
Art is obviously an easy class, however she teachers as if everyone is an art major and likes art. Very condescending and rude if you do not know anything about art. Book is needed to study for tests
Condescending, lecture heavy. She's a difficult grader for a class that should be very easy. She takes her material seriously, which is great for art majors, but for those of us who just need an art credit, and don't really care, she was very rude.
I love Professor Randall! She is my favorite art history professor at SVSU, she knows so much and is so passionate about what she teaches, she makes lectures easy to listen to.
She is very passionate about what she does and there is nothing wrong with that. But, in a 100 level class, she goes too much into depth with her lecture slides. Lectures are super boring and feel as though they last a lifetime. The biggest concern with the class, 1/3 of your grade is based on a group presentation.
It's not a huge deal to skip this class as long as you group project days because they're easy points. This class was very boring and I used to enjoy art more than I did after this class. She's very into the class and she assumes everyone is into the class as she is. Wouldn't recommend.
Very boring class that goes way too in-depth (non-majors beware). Very condescending attitude and explains common knowledge facts to the class as if you're stupid. Don't even bother getting the book as the majority of the 3 exams comes from the powerpoint slides. 1/3rd of your grade comes from a group presentation. Would not recommend
What should be a very easy pre requisite class , is so much more. She makes her exams much harder than they need to be. Doesn't seem to understand the majority of the students in her class are not actually interested in art. She can be very rude and takes herself way too seriously. Her reviews are not helpful at all. I can not wait to be done.
Absolutely worst professor I've ever had to deal with. She acts like everyone is an art major and lectures as though we all know extensive art language. Don't even bother asking a question because she will respond with a rude answer. Hated going to class knowing I would have to see her. Class was easy, but having to deal with her attitude was not.
Great prof! Was really helpful in office hours and listened to my concerns. You'll learn a ton if you read the book and use the study guide.
If you didn't pass her class, it's because you didn't try. Allows up to 4 absences. No homework, just short, quick group projects after some classes (she gives the dates of these group projects in her syllabus). A boring lecturer, but she will often tell you when something will be on an exam. All you have to do is show up and pay attention!
Prof. Randall was not a very pleasant person, expects all students to know everything about art. Constantly went to office hours for concern about my grade. I tried my best but didn't matter at all! I LITERALLY COULD GET 100% IN STATS CLASS THIS SEM. BUT GOT A B+ IN HERE BC SHE GRADES SO HARSHLY. I worked hard for B+ too & it's a 100 level class
most test material come from a lecture that she gives from a PowerPoint that consists of only pictures. If you arent listening carefully it is easy to miss thing that will be on the test. There is also a req. group presentation where you basically teach the class about a chapter from the book. also kind of rude when it comes to answering questions
Was expecting this class to be easy, but I was wrong. A class period consists of her talking deep into the history of art and expects us to know everything about it. Exams are way harder than they need to be, we go over material right before an exam but once we take it, there are questions I have never seen before. Avoid at all costs. Very rude too
She's a decent teacher.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. I expected this class to be easy but I was very wrong. Only lectures about pictures on a PowerPoint. Then on the exams, she expects you to know every little detail about every piece of work and artist. Would not suggest taking this class if you want to get an A!
I've had a few classes with her at first I didn't mind her, I feel now I regret taking her class.
Print out her study guide and fill it out as she lectures, it will help you focus on the artworks and terminology that you will need for the tests. The entire class is based on 3 tests and the final (optional). Doesn't take attendance but you have to pay attention to lectures in order to do good. Boring class. Fairly easy. No homework usually.
She was quite rude and the class was much more difficult than it needed to be. Take a different class and professor if at all possible
She's nice and never asked for anything unreasonable. Three exams and an optional final with some online quizzes at various times. The class is just her going through power points but she does explain the slides and what is important. She also posts study guides on canvas that correlate well with test material if you fill them out. Good art prof.
WORST professor I have had. Does not make grading criteria clear, grades very harshly, and expects everyone of her students to know everything about the class. She made us do huge group projects in an online class which was hard and hard to meet up with group members. Would never ever take her again, please go with a different option if you can.
She can kind-of seem like she doesn't care at times, but I had her twice and it's safe to say that she is consistent with her coursework. She isn't all too optimistic or happy-looking, but she teaches what's needed. She tells you exactly what she's looking for on her tests and your grade will usually have some sort of cushioning at the end.
Class met every other Wednesday where we just watched videos that she gave a little more explanation to then completed a group project that was usually a short essay that she would grade a little tough on after little guidelines for it. Outside of class you're required to read the textbook and watch videos and then take a quiz. Easy A.
She seemed very knowledgeable & I was really looking forward to this online class to learn from someone so educated. The class consists of a bunch of modules with quizzes following, a paper or two & then the final paper. Easy enough. HOWEVER, any correspondence with her is demeaning and unhelpful. Waste of time & I didn't learn anything useful.
I cannot wait for this class to be over with. Prof. Randall is rude and doesn't help explain what you did wrong on a quiz or paper. She acts like everyone should already know these terms & have a deep passion for art. Avoid her!
Hybrid class. Not the best prof. Super into Art and believes her students should be too. Few assignments so its hard to do well if u do bad on a couple. Group projects were graded harshly I felt. We watched videos of people making art and then had to do a group project on it. She never really taught the class herself. Takes long to reply to emails
This will be the easiest class you ever take. If you are like me and just doing it for the mandatory credit, I highly recommend it. She grades based on 10 questions, 10 point quizzes, and all the answers are found clearly in the videos and stuff she posts for that week.
My opinion is very bias because I had zero interest in the class If you are looking for an easy online class, do not take this one. There is multiple videos and articles you have to read every week. You have to read closely in order to find the answers you need. However, she is really nice about extending due dates and giving feedback.
Took online, would recommend. Very easy class, light homework, super easy quizzes. Barely needed to use the textbook, she uploaded powerpoint as summaries and thus study guides, and quizzes were open book. Could just scan the powerpoint and take the weekly quiz, skipping videos and textbook reading. Questions were google-able. EASY! Nice prof.
This professor makes your final paper half of your grade so even if you do good the entire semester your grade drop significantly if you do poorly on one paper. She is condescending and poor at communicating. She will not negotiate you grades no matter how unfair you feel your final grade ends up being. Don't take her class.
The final paper is 10-12 pages long for this class. She gives you stupid prompts that you can barely write 2 pages about. She believes everyones into art as heavily as she is and uses terms no one has ever heard of.
Easiest class I've ever taken. I personally didn't use the online textbook, all the info you need is in the powerpoints. You have weekly quizzes based on the powerpoints and videos you watch. Midterm and final are based off the quizzes with some vocab. No homework. 1 extra credit quiz at the end of the semester.
This class was extremely easy. There was a textbook that I bought but it was mostly unnecessary since the powerpoints had the same info. There is also a super easy extra credit assignment at the end and I finished the class before finals week.
Definitely recommend. She uses a textbook but I only looked at lecture PowerPoint and I did great. Super helpful when asking for help and opens tasks weeks before they are due, so you can work at your own pace.
Super easy online class. Graded on weekly quizzes and two exams. She allows access to quizzes weeks in advance so you can get ahead very easily.
Unlike my Music professor -- Brandon Haskett -- she at least grades promptly and gives feedback. Yeah, you will be doing discussion essays twice a week during the spring/summer semester, so prepare for that! There is a required 10-12 page art research paper. Start early, use grammarly and quillbot, and you should be fine.
She doesnt understand much, I got my papers read over by the writing center and she still gives me a bad grade and said it is a bad essay. She doesnt understand much so she will always say she is confused in every paper you turn in. I would suggest just getting another Professor for this class or dont take this as an elective
She will give you a 10-12 page paper then be confused how to read it. She will be confused with every paper that you write for her. She changes the grading criteria a week before u do the final paper so be aware.
Worst professor I've ever had. I've never even had a B in my life, but because of her teaching and there only being a few grades, I ended with a C in her class. Definitely wouldn't take her again if there are other options. She's nice but she acts as if you already know things and doesn't explain things well, she just talks at you.
If you have the chance I would take this online, super easy!
Very, very easy course! Guaranteed you'll get an A.
This was arguably the easiest class I have taken. All of the answers are directly from the text/videos with very little effort needed. If you use quizlet, this class is a breeze as there are countless study guides online built to help you.
This class wasn't hard, but her directions didn't make sense half of the time. Any time that I emailed her for questions or help she would always respond in a rude, snarky kind of way. Oh and yes 10 page final paper about an art piece. I turned in 6 pages and still got a 90. I'll give her that.
The easiest class I've ever taken. There was 1 or 2 short videos to watch, a small bit of reading, and a quiz each week. There was a midterm and a final. If you are willing to read, and willing to look on quizlet for study guides, this class is very passable. I would recommend her for an online class.
Don't buy the textbook! Only homework are a couple quizzes & 2-person group presentation 10-15 min long. It's easy & you have a lot of time to prepare.Your grade is heavily dependent on the chp. tests that happens every 2 wks so STUDY. I sucked at it so I ended w/ a C+. Know the basic info of every artpiece she talks about. Not all are on test.
If you're good at studying and don't want a lot of homework, you'll do fine in this class. There's only like a few quizzes in the beginning and near the end of the semester. The ones with written responses take me the longest but you have 100 minutes to complete it. You don't need the textbook at all.
Couple short written assignments here and there, couple discussion boards, a few quizzes. Majority of points comes from a formal analysis and final paper. Some modules are lectured heavily with videos and readings. As long as you understand the content, it should be an easy class if needing to take an CI course.
This is the EASIEST class I've taken at SVSU (as a sophomore)!! Each week you do a module, which consists of readings and videos, and then you take a quiz. If you do the modules, the quizzes are no problem. You are only graded on the quizzes, so make sure to do well on them. I definitely recommend this class to anyone who needs an art credit!!
Study study study!! There's 3 exams total w/ 12 art piece questions. Also one group project she put together that's also 50 pts. Make sure to complete quizzes on time, they will help your grade (1-2 every week). She doesn't make you meet for finals week, so that's a plus. This class is pretty chill, just study. I look for the dates in the pieces.
Very understanding, clear grading, submit quiz weekly for each module. As long as you remember to do things each week its an easy A.
This professor was great in the beginning of the semester, there were short easy assignments but lots of reading/videos to look at. However, the final paper given had no clear instructions, and when I asked for help I was given a short “figure it out yourself” type of response. Gave feedback that was rude rather than constructive and helpful.
