Very nice and helpful. Gives good notes. Hard Tests!
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I HAVE EVER HAD, THE BEST!
Great teacher, gives excellent notes, hard tests
Not Multiple Choice! But VERY CLEAR. Covers ALL Material Tested.VERY HELPFUL
great teacher hard tests as fun as chemistry can be
Hard test, but GREAT TEACHER. Caring and informative. Alright!?
she is a very helpfull professor, and teaches very well. the class material is not very difficult, just demanding and time consuming. but she is considerate of the student and a great teacher!
one of the best chem 10 teachers! the material is tough- its chemistry- but she lays it out step by step and has very structured lectures- no turn in homework, but do the worksheets and problems assigned to help and her tests reflect the material given!:)
The best general chemistry teacher. Explains everything to the fullest. Just one small problem; she is too jumpy. Maybe its the caffeine.
AL~~~~~~RIGHT!! ^_^
one of the best teachers ive ever had, great prep 4 Chem11, really helpful esp during off. hrs, willing to spend time so every1 can underst'd matr'l, tests are from lecture- straight4ward. not an easy A but if you like chem, A is no prbm. Got an A by 1pt!
she was great!!!very clear, had study sessions before tests, she was always available.
Great teacher. Gives excellent notes. Very clear in explaining the material. Fair in grading on free response (tests). Gives worksheets that help alot. Very helpful. Seems like she REALLY LOVES her job. Very dedicated to students, makes extra time to help
the best teacher!!! her lectures were very clear and helpful. the tests were based on material covered in the lectures. very helpful with questions students had on materials we didnt understand. i actually understood chem for once
BAM BAM!!! That is her pace during class. She is superfast yet is very clear. She is the type that doesnt take crap and get's the job done! Great Teacher, definately my favorite of the semester
Taking Chem w/Scholefield is the perfect combination of learning what you need to excel at Chem 11-22 and being able to get that A for your GPA. God she is such an amazing professor, she breaks down the book so u understand, and her class is very fun.
Dr.Scholefield is THE best! She's HILARIOUS. I want to father her child.
probably most of students already know she is best teacher in chemistry.... Take her...!!
veryyyyyyyyy goooooooooood
Professor Scholefield is by far the best chem teacher at SMC. She's thorough and gives plenty of notes to reflect the material. Her tests reflect labs, lab quizzes and all her notes. Her notes are summarized from the book for you! Not as serious as she appears in class...very nice and funny lady.
I love her!!!! shes the most amazing teacher Ive ever had. shes funny, interesting, and most of all not confusing!!! Take her if you want to understand chemistry and get an easy A. All you have to do is show up to class. I barely looked at the book and got an A.
Very easy, very straight4ward. :-)
She's a genuinely good teacher. If you need help do not be afraid to ask. Go Red Sox!
heres the thing with scholefield, if u go to class, take notes, do all of the worksheets and the labs, u should have no problem pulling off a b. If u want the A, u need to do the hw problems in the back of each chapter bec her hard test questions****from that. Also u neeed to be on top of ur****
Good chem teacher. U have to be on your toes all the time to do well, though. Study and u'll do well.
Don't get me wrong, she is a good instructor, but she's also a bit condescending toward students. And I don't know about the hot factor and wanting to father her child. If it were me...
Ugh. hate the class. She is a ****y grader on everything. Hard exams, average is 60%, but she won't curve. No teachin cause of an online class. Too much HW about 50 probs a week. Hardest labs out of all of the teachers.
One word: Amazing!!!
She is one of the best chemistry teachers in SMC. She is very helpful and her notes are clearly presented.
she is so hard, don't take her.
Prof. Scholefield IS the best chem teacher that SMC has to offer. Her notes are absolutely amazing and thorough. For those of you who thought she was hard, you obviously didn't even try. She's concise, labs are easy and if you do the homework problems (not hard!) you'll get an A or B on every test. Do yourself a favor and take her, she's amazing.
DO NOT take an online class w/ her. 10 out 28 people dropped. unfair grading, hard exams.
This online class was so tough. You need to read through all the chapters by yourself,do online HW everyweek + textbook problems, and take a quiz everyweek. Her tests were hard. The worst thing is that she's a poor grader, taking off too much pts.almost no partial credit!!She didn't curve at all evern if it was tough online class,,I hated this class,,
Guys.... Do yourself a favor. Do not take an online chem class w/ her. It will ruin your life for 16 weeks. I had to drop one of my classes because this class requires 3 hrs of studying daily b/c her tests cover unexpected material thats not completely in the book. take a regular class w/ anyone. This class will be a ton more work and u won't get a
Don't take her online class!! She has very high expectations. Hard tests and hard grader. You will spend at least 5 times more time for studying than in regular class. Maybe she is easier for chem 10 but for sure not for chem 12. She has 4 tests, quizzes every week, a lot of HW (which is good), and more labs than any other instructor.Knowledgable.
She is an awesome teacher! Very intelligent and helpful. I am so glad that I took her.
go to her website read the syllabus explains well not eassy take her if u need to take more than chem 10 definatly prepares for chem11
I am a straight A student, but in her class it is not possible to even think about an A or a B. Her tests are not fair. The questions are NOT from the book. she is the worst instructor I ever had. If you hate yourself take her!!
i took her spring of '06. everyone in the class dropped it. she was such a psycho! nothing on the test was relavent to anything she taught. unfair grader. takes off 1/4th of a point for writing the wrong date. If you want to die and fail and NEVER TRANSFER! Take her! she's mean and cold hearted~~ should be fired
I really like her... I'm in her class right now, and she's one of the best teachers I think I've had at smc. Yes, she is very hard, but it prepares you for further chem classes. I'd take her if you really wanna learn, if you want ease, take someone else
This class is hell and she's really mean she's a good teacher but her tests are impossible and it's unlikely that you will get a 10 out of 10 on any lab.
a class you have to work for. It is really easy to get a B, but in order to get an A u have to work. Ignore what all the people on the bottom said....many of those ppl dropped the class in the beginning of the semester and then when they did she realized she was too hard so she made the class aLOT easier. Nice teacher that want you to pass...
An incredible professor, one of the best. Very methodical and precise in her presentation of lecture material. Labs are easy, and always makes herself available if you need help. She wants you to suceed. tests can be tricky sometimes, in order to see if you can understand the BIGGER picture. Be prepared to study and an "A" is very possible.
I killed myself in the class and got nowhere!!!!!!!!!!
I killed my self in class and I got nothing. picky person, not good grader . Hard exames and quizez.Do not take he If you like yourself.
Dr. Scholefield is a great teacher and a nice person! This was the first time that Chemistry made sense to me and I learned so much in her class. I also got an A because her teaching methods make learning and understanding so easy! I encourage everyone to take her class. It is fun, too!
Dr. Scholefield is not a fair professor, she gives A or B not according to the affort of student but she look at the faceof students and she gives grade, I got a B in her class with 87, my friends with 77 got a B! is it fair? I heared next semester she gave A to a student that her average was 85, not a fair class at all! hard exams! Not a fair PROF
im a b/c student, this was my first class out of high school and she was an absolutly amazing teacher a B is likely but if you want an A u have 2 study hard for it i ended up with an A.her notes are very meticulous and incredibly well written, prepared me very well labs are fun overal gr8 class i highly recomend her, grades fair even gave xtra cred
her lecture is clear, notes are clear. she's kind of funny and good at explaining. exams are ok but seems hard due to MCs. Do the hws, listen to lecture & take notes, just ask if you don't understand, she's very helpful.
she is a good teacher but she won't make it easy for you. her exams are hard and tricky sometimes. her breaks are super short and it is hard to keep up because she keeps on going.... you will learn but it will be a tough one if you have a life outside of chemistry.
She is one of the mos helpful human beings on this planet, I had three chem courses with Dr. Scholefield and she makes this subject very interesting. She is kind, fair and always there for you, and I have to say that stop complaining and remember you are in collage. No one said that Chemestry is easy, it's a science course with a lot of details.
I have Dr. Scholefield right now and i gotta say she is quite the professor. she really knows her stuff and how to get it through to her students. she explains things in a way that anyone can understand. i'm even gonna take her next semester too for chem 11 because she's that easy to learn from. labs are also really exciting.
very detailed helps students as much as she cans you have to work hard for an a she gives extra crdt to boos your grade highly recommended
Ok..here is the thing, she does give great notes..but her tests are very hard and the final grade is out of 600 pts. 540 and up is an A. That means you can only miss 60 pts! 5 exams each worth 75pts, lowest score dropped. Final worth 150. tough grader on labs. Not a bad looking bird either!
her notes were extremely clear. she is such a great professor! she explains it until u understand and if u need extra help just ask her; she is so nice and helpful (even if she sounds/looks intimidating). ASK for help and study her notes. to get a good grade u have to really seriously study. but u truly learn in this class.
One thing. She teaches. You learn. Don't need to buy an expensive textbook at all (even if she says). All materials/worksheets/practice-tests are ONLINE and handy. You are guarenteed an A if you complete all the WSs (dont need to turn in) on your own. She drops 1 test, 1 lab, and 2 lab quizes during fall/spring chem10. She is VERY CONCISE.
Some exams are actually tricky, not difficult, tricky.
It's pretty simple.. If you take her class, you'll learn more chemistry than you could possibly imagine. It's not easy, her tests are pretty demanding if you ask me. But she's always there to help if you need it. She gives good lectures (take good notes) and she definitely knows more than other teachers. I gotta B, but it wasn't easy by any means.
Dr. S rocks! As for the people complaining about tricky tests and hard classes, they are probably the ones that show up half the time. Attend class, take good notes, do the homework, ask questions if needed. That's a pretty simple formula for this class. The test questions are based out of the notes and examples. Nothing but good things here.
she teaches very well with her own notes and lectures. you will learn alot but dony take her if you reallu want to get an A in her class. her tests are hard no matter how much you study. very loud and seriouse at all time.
She is the greatest Chem prof ive ever had. The sweetest lady ever, and you'll get everything the first time she explains it, SHE'S THAT GOOD. And she loves answering your Questions! Class is soo fun with her! I HIGHLY recomend her!
Teaches way beyond what the book requires. She believes in the bell curve so tests are designed so only the top 10% of studends will get an A. So if you're new to chem, expect to have no life if you take this class with her. Take other profs whose expectations are more real. I got an A but I already took a similar class at Pasadena College.
Best lecturer EVER. She knows her stuff and explains everything in a very clear and structured way. I learned a lot but had to dedicate a lot of time to this class. Her tests are a little on the hard side; if you want an easy A dont take her but if you want to learn a lot then this is the class for you.
Her test are harder than any of the examples she gives in class or the homework problems. Her test are unfair!!! Buy both the textbook and the answer guide if you take her class. I think she sucks so don't take her.
Her tests do not encompass any of the material she teaches. If a class example takes 5 steps to get to the answer, she''l add another 3 steps for the test question. I have an MBA from Georgetown and couldn't get through her class because the tests are ridiculous. Her voice eerks me.
Really good teacher...bottom line her tests are challenging. 20 mc worth 3 points and 5 free response worth 40 points. Definitly have to study. However, at least 2 free responces come directly from her examples in class. Must understand the material to do well on the tests
She is probably one of the best professors at SMC. Her lectures are crystal clear, and all of her free response questions on her test come straight from her examples in class. Do not listen to the people underneath complaining. Any Science major will find this class to be straight forward and not very difficult.
I waited 3 semesters to get a good chem teacher, and i finally found one. Scholefield is definitely one of the best teachers i've had. Her tests are really hard, but not impossible. She focuses heavily on her notes, and make sure you do all the homeworks and labs to your fullest ability; they really help your grade in the end.
Great teacher, great notes. Always helpful and nice. Very organized and methodical, which is important for a science class. Hardest tests I've ever taken, and it required the most studying out of any class I've ever taken. Final is 50 multiple choice questions, but OK if you continue to study all semester. Hard grader.
chemistry's hard, but dr. scholefield makes the subject as simple and clear as possible. absolutely amazing professor
mind numbingly boring lecturer, says annoying words like "alrigggggggggt" and says schedule the weird way. boring tone of voice that makes class boring. most people dropped by mid point, few more dropped about 3 weeks ago. awful class, awful teacher.
Ile tell you the truth. i havent got my grade in so what i say to you now is not because i got a bad or good grade just the truth. she is a great teacher and she is very nice but her test are very hard and her class is too. i took chem 9 and chem 10 and pased with an A. than i took her class and ooooo god her test are unFAIR.great teacher bad test.
I say my name alen.I dont care if she read my rate or not. That was one of the worth classes that I have ever takem. Her tests are unfair. They were so hard. The ony word that I can describe her is SHE SUCKS...Thats End
I got an A. NOT that hard. Just study a lot like in any 5 unit class. She is very thorough and an excellent lecturer. She knows exactly what she's doing. I would highly recommend her for Chem 10.
exceptionally boring teacher. tests are easy until you get to the "essay" portion of the test which is ridiculous. i feel asleep in every class because of how she speaks, she has a really annoying tone. most people dropped half way through, the remainder dropped on the last day. my class had 50 or so people, come finals, on 20 were there. do not ta
OK, this may be the one of the best teachers I've ever had. She knows the subject and will explain it to you until you get it, too. She is incredible. You must take this class. I'm bummed she's not teaching Chem 11 this semester. Great, great teacher.
If you want an easy A, then Dr. Scholefield is not the right professor for you. However, if you want to have a solid foundation in chemistry and be better prepared for chem 11 & 12, then by all means take her. She's pehnomenal! She's really informative, best of all are her great lectures! Highly recommended.
Look, she is awesome and very very very clear on her notes. you will not need to buy textbook. she is so explicit so take good notes. you want to get an A take her in winter or summer. her test are tricky but an A is so obtainable.Again, take her in WINTER OR SUMMER. If you re majoring in Chem or Bio, she will prepare you very well. that's it
You have to work hard. Do ALL hw problems. You will understand the subject for chem 11. She is an excellent teacher. Feel lucky there's people like her teaching chemistry.
She teaches crystal clear and very well organized professor. However, there are 6 exams one gets dropp and every week pre-lab and lab reports! The exams is stright from her notes but they are extremly difficult. There is 50% people drop from her class and most of them get a W like myself. So prepare to study and put 20 hours a week for her course!
She is an extremely great teacher! drops the lowest test grade and two lowest labs. Teaches the subject very well and uses a lot of example problems. very helpful. However, her tests are hard and the class is boring. Definately Recommended!
Hard exams, lots of memorization, accumulative final, but great teacher. Have probably opened the book twice, but probably a good idea to read before lectures.
She's a natural teacher. Great notes. Very clear. Available for help outside of class. HW was optional but DO IT, it helps. Test are not hard if you understand the material. Final was pretty simple. My one problem was she keeps the class after about 10 every day, on the last day it was 30 min over. Not a good idea if you have a class right after.
one word for her AWESOME. she is very very very very organized. u just have to go into classes and be attentive u ll get exactly wat she is saying . she is definetly the best teacher in SMC . best ever
She's a born-teacher! You don't need the textbook. Her lectures/worksheets go over everything you need to know. She's hard, but she gives you all the tools you need to succeed. BUT, you do have to work HARD for her. Do all the problems multiple times so you can do it on the exams without thinking twice. She's no joke, but she is very helpful!
She is a GREAT teacher. She is the best teacher I have had at SMC. She makes sure that each concept is clearly explained. She uses a lot of fun and interesting analogies. I wish someone could clone her so that she could also teach math, biology, physics, etc.
By far one of the most AMAZING professors I've ever had. Lectures are all extremely clear, she uses many examples to clarify what she is teaching and is always happy to answer any questions you may have. Tests are a bit tricky but as long as you pay attention in class, do ALL THE HOMEWORK and understand it and stay focued an A is very obtainable.
1,2 tests were hard, but 3,4 tests were decent level.
She's great at teaching, though she isn't very interactive as far as chatting about questions. (Doesn't invite you to come to her during breaks/labs for 'any little thing.' Says 'WHAT did I write on the board???') Big problem I'm having is that her fear of cheating borders on disrespectful to those of us who NEVER have or would. It's insulting, imo.
I took her for Chem 10 and 11. I wanted to take her for Chem-12, but unfortunately she is not teaching... She is the BEST by far !!! I haven't seen any teacher who explains better than her. Her lectures are crystal clear. She is fun! Just take notes !!!
she is the best chem teacher, no doubt. the lecture is crystal clear and her handouts helps you learn the material better. 4 exams that are hard and a medium final. everything is from homework so if you master it you will get your A like I did.never gave us the labs but you have to write them with pen which is not good. Take her you won't regret it
Excellent teacher. She is very intelligent and very clear on lectures. You can tell she has lots of experience in this field. She is very organized and motivates you to be organized too.
Professor Scholefield is AWESOME! At first, she can seem really intimidating, but you'll soon learn that she explains everything perfectly and easily for you to understand. Her tests are fair. Don't expect an easy class cuz chemistry isn't supposed to be easy. Put in the work and you'll do fine.
SHe is an amazing professor. Chem is difficult already but she helps people who would normally suck at it understand it. At first she seems a little scary but after you get to know her, you find out how awesome she is. She will go out of her way to help you with anything. Take her class if your horrible at chem. she'll make it easy
Clear and easy. Great lecture
Dont take this class unless your not taking ANY OTHER classes that semester. Insanely hard, unnecessarily over complicated questions on tests. She puts wrong answers down that are 1 decimal place off. Goodluck if you dont already have a few years experience in chemistry!
A very clear teacher, can't think of any flaws. The subject needed studying, but her lectures are extremely useful, if you attend, you'll get high grades
Honestly, the best professor you could ask for. Every lecture is clear as day, just make sure you read each chapter and do the optional chapter assignments. BEST TEACHER AWARD!
Probably the best teacher I've had at SMC. If you go to every class and listen, and do all, and I mean all the homework then you will get an A in this class. She teaches you everything you need to know and nothing new on the tests. Any chemistry class you take will require studying and she's the best teacher for it.
A great professor. passionate about what she does so she will go the extra mile to help you. chemistry is a hard subject to begin with, so i recommend her above all to guide you through it.
Chemistry is HARD period. She is a good teacher. Explains in detail so you can understand it better...regardless if you understand at all. Took her in a Winter semester which is tough. Be ready to work your butt off.
She is the BEST Chem professor at SMC! Explains everything with lots of examples so there are no surprises on the tests. As long as u do all the hw you will get an A in the class. tests are easy if you do the hw.
Professor Scholefield is an amazing lecturer and couldn't be more helpful! This class is very challenging but she makes it extremely interesting and more than possible to do well in! Go to her office hours! I would totally take her again! She made me want to major in chemistry! Awesome Professor!
I was so fortunate to have gotten off the wait list as a crasher. I was amazed by Prof. Scholefield's dedication and patience. Good luck getting her!
by far the most amazing chemistry teacher to walk this planet! her class is like a dream, she writes everything on the board for you while explaining everything in detail! her tests are difficult but she only does that because she has done her job as an amazing teacher and what you do with the knowledge she gives you is all on you got an A love her
OH MY GOD I'M OBSESSED WITH SCHOLEFIELD! By far the best teacher I've had in my 2 years at SMC. The class is hard, but she is SUCH a skilled teacher. Very organized and willing to help. HW isn't mandatory, but you should do it. Tests are challenging but VERY FAIR. Labs and lecture are fun and engaging. She is ALWAYS crystal clear. TAKE HER!
Astonishing professor. Her lectures are so crystal clear. Nonetheless the subject is very hard. You will have to work very hard for an A. Exams 3 and 4 are probably the hardest. Do all book problems and class exams. DO not underestimate the standardized final. Work very hard, and an A is doable. Tests are not east whatsoever, but practice.
Wonderful teacher. I had her for summer session and the lectures were crystal clear. Tests can definitely be difficult if you don't study for them, but you do get partial credit for a correct process. Getting an A isn't impossible, but it definitely requires a lot of work.
Dr. Scholefield is an amazing teacher. Her lectures are crystal clear and she writes everything she explains on the board. Homework is not mandatory. (She won't check it). Tests are easy if you know what to do. Never opened the book.
Outstanding teacher. Took her during a 6 week Winter session, and never felt rushed or behind while she taught. She is extremely organized during her lectures, has neatlargecolor coding hand writing on white board. Tests are exactly what is covered in class. Gives extra course work if you want, but it is not graded. GREAT TEACHER.
Professor Scholefield enjoy's what she does for living (teaching) and she's good at it. Her class is not easy and if you skip class often then don't expect to pass. Her tests are just that, her test's. Its a cross between multiple choice questions and some free response questions and they are not easy. Overall you will learn a lot in her class.
Took Dr. Scholefield during the 6 week summer session and absolutely loved her teaching style and attitude. She makes you excited about chemistry and her lectures are SUPER clear and helpful. You should definitely do the back of the chapter problems that she assigns, as some of them show up on exams. If she was teaching chem 12, I would take her!
Loved her teaching style and she is very clear on what she expects from students. This is a demanding course and Professor Scholefield definitely challenges her students. If you are willing to do the work, she provides all that is needed to get an A in the class and sets you up to be successful in future chem classes! Highly recommend!
Her lecture is clear and amazing! Tests are hard but not too tough to deal with. You have to put 100% effort and you can get A in her class. Very enthusiasm professor and willing to help students. If she has Chem12 class I will definitely take her again! Sadly, she doesn't teach chem 12...
Lectures are really really long but clear. Tests are very hard, you must NOT only study from the examples in class but from the unassigned hw that she "recommends" . Her tests consists of 30ish mc questions and 4 free responses. Her labs are easy but she does lecture in labs which can be very tiring because she only gives a 10min break.
Dr. Scholefield is an excellent professor. Her lectures are crystal clear. Tests are tough but her notes and lectures are easy to understand. She's one of the few science professors at SMC who really cares for her students and is truly there for them.
"You should've learned this in Chem 10"- Prof. Scholfield. She is an outstanding professor @ SMC and loves to teach Chem11. Her lectures are very clear and straight forward although the subject may be tough. She goes over examples very often and is very organized when it comes to lecturing. If you did really good in Chem 10 you shouldn't have a prob
Only problem that her tests are too hard! Good at lecturing the material but her tests are insanely hard. The only reason I passed this class was because I had a tutor that helped me do some of the problems of the book. Labs are easy and does lecture in them so be careful dont miss anything in it!
Honestly she teaches well, but she only gave out one A in my class. Like it's general chemistry come on... I would say take her, because she's a good professor, but if you like your GPA then do not take her please!
The best Chemistry Professor I have ever had! Her teaching style is very organized and she definitely prepares you for her exams. Her exams are really difficult though, so do all of the suggested homework problems and her handout problems. I wish she taught Chem 12. Getting an A is possible, but you have to work for it!
I wish she would teach higher level chem. I would definitely take her again. Take notes in class and do the practice problems it will help a lot for the exams. Homework is not collected. No quizzes. Total of 4 exams plus a final. Exams are twenty-five Multiple choice and two or three free response Qs. Labs are straightforward. Just study right.
Best teacher I've ever had hands down. Lectures are phenomenal, but often require CHEM 10 to understand concepts. Exams are tough but if u do the HW you will do well. Is strict on lazy students, but extremely supportive of students who try hard. Similar style to Taylor (CHEM 10). Not an easy subject, but I learnt so much. Wish she taught CHEM 12...
I took this course during the summer 6-week session. She is a fair professor. You have to pay attention during lecture and take notes in order to do well in her class- I got an A and did not use the textbook once. The labs were easy and fun but the lectures got a little boring at times. 4 exams + final + lots of labs
The best you can ask for! Her lectures are very optimized and crystal-clear. Even her speaking skills are great, you have no problem hearing her at all. On top of that, you have optional homework and other great resources in the optional textbook and her website. It's one of those classes if you don't do well it's 100% on you.
This professor is fantastic! Her lectures are amazing and she's always happy to answer questions. She explains things clearly and concisely and uses helpful analogies and examples to illustrate her points. Take good notes, because they're the only ones you'll really get.
Professor Scholefield was my retake of Chem 11. She was a very solid teacher who had specific grading criteria. She's very helpful when you go up and ask her questions. Do the recommended HW! I didnt do it for a test and I didnt do well. Labs were always enjoyable with her. Highly recommend to take her over the other Chem 11 professors.
Her lectures are amazing and she really cares about helping her students succeed. Definitely learned so much and wish she was teaching Chem 12! Her tests aren't that hard, but you have to work hard for that A. Do the hw and study your lecture notes. She is a little more strict in grading the labs, so don't just quickly do it before class.
Prof Scholefield is seriously one of the best professors i've ever had. People tell you not to take her because her tests are hard, but her lectures are literally AMAZING. So clear and her practice problems are so helpful. Do those and the homework she assigns and the tests will be fine. I love her!
Honestly, one of the most boring class I have ever taken. I sincerely don't understand the hype of her as a teacher because she gives out ridiculously hard tests and is a very boring teacher. She teaches and tries to be fun but, the class is very unengaging and is an alright teacher overall.
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. I learned a lot and, if you put in the work, it's a pretty easy class to do well in. Professor Scholefield really believes in her students. If you're having a rough time, spend a minute talking to her and she'll make you feel 1000% better. If you're not innately good at chem, she'll get you through.
Hands down THE best professor I had so far! She is a gem to the SMC chemistry department. Her lectures are easy to understand, and she really tries to help students as much as she can. Solve all the practice problems, go to office hours and don't skip lectures (although attendance isn't mandatory). Take her if you can--I strongly recommend her!
Her class is extremely difficult, but if you put in some effort, shell do her best to help you. 4 tests, 1 final, final replaces lowest grade. She is an incredible professor and really does her best to push her students. Highly recommend her. Advice: GO TO CLASS, office hours are golden, DO THE HOMEWORK, STUDY HARD! Good luck!
WOW! Just get ready to be enlightened by her lectures. Simply one of the best professors Ive had. Her tests are a bit challenging but if u read over her notes and do ALL of the practice hw problem you should be fine.
Professor Scholefield cares so much for her students. She does seem a bit cold at first, but once you get to know her, she will be the warmest person. She is always available during office hours and constantly encourages her students to come to her for any kind of help, whether that be lab work or homework. Her lectures are very easy to understand.
Her lectures are amazing and easy to follow / take notes to. She definitely cares about her students too :) Tests are difficult but not impossible if you attend class regularly, take good notes, print out all of her handouts, and do the assigned homework. Chemistry 11 is by no means an easy course, but Scholefield is the choice to help you succeed
Don't get me wrong she's good with her lectures but that doesn't mean it's an easy class. Chemistry is a hard subject. Her example problems are nothing like her exams. I would say the exams are much harder than her examples. She tries her best to help us but I was still very confused by the end of her lectures.
Professor Scholfeild is amazing! I actually had to retake her class due to family emergencies! But the second time around when I took it, I did great. Her exams are challenging but she provides extra help outside of class (even zoom) so that you can really understand the material! Homework is not required by provided.
Very harsh/meticulous grader, dry personality. Created unnecessary stress and confusion during this whole remote learning situation. Good lecturer overall.
(COVID) I absolutely love Dr. Scholefield. Don't get me wrong; this class is HARD. I love that she is an old school lecturer; she writes everything down and draws pictures while lecturing. No slides. She gives a PDF of the textbook so you won't have to buy it. She is very kind during office hours. However, she is a TOUGH grader. Hardest class ever.
Great teacher but many chem classes later I realized she makes chem more difficult than chem should be. The class is more about challenging you and weeding you out from Chem more than ensuring one succeeds. She stated it's normal that class averages were below 60% on exams. She's good, but there are better classes suited for success out there.
Def tough grader. But amazing lectures, even when switched to remote did recorded lectures almost exactly like f2f on campus. Plus typed up all her notes for us which made watching lectures easier. Do the hw! It helps. Tests were hard but do-able. Open-notes, 25 mc questions. Very helpful in zoom office hours so you should go.
exams dont match what she teaches very difficult
Do not buy the hype. Tests insanely hard. Supportive & nice one-on-one, but inflexible, out of touch w students realities, and makes everything more difficult than it needs to be. Sometimes humorous in lectures and draws pictures which is nice, but not worth it.
I absolutely don't understand where she gets the problems she uses for exams, because they sure aren't from the homework. Insanely difficult tests. Teacher makes things more complicated than needed, answers questions with sarcasm and annoyance during office hours, and is SO PICKY. Get an A elsewhere.
She provides you with amazing lectures but the exams are super difficult. A lot of my classmates ended up dropping. Its essential to do the homework because the most difficult problems provided will be on the exam. She grades on exams, quizzes, and EC.
This professor has been highly respected before covid and online courses. I strongly do not recommend taking her. I got an A in chem 10, and have had A's in all my classes including computer science and calculus, and got a C in this class. We had 60 students ended with 15. Her tests and lecture/homework problems do not match at all. Also very rude
Professor Scholefield is the best teacher I have ever had! She is extremely caring and her lectures are very organized and detailed! Her exams are hard but if you listen to her lectures (several times) and attend all of her office hours , you will do just fine. Please do not let the other ratings get into you! She really is amazing!!!
Amazing professor! Put in the work and an A is achievable. The exam is straightforward if you understand the concepts. Very important to do and understand HW even though its not graded. Definitely go to office hours at least 1 time per week. Offers extra credit. Many people were lazy in class and expectedly failed. The class is very doable!
Took this class fall 2020 and got to say it was difficult. The lectures were very organized, but the exams were difficult. Its extremely important to do homework. Almost my entire class dropped, but I managed to get a B. Lots of ppl passed with Cs.
Professor Scholefield is one of the best professors I have ever had! She is so organized with her weekly emails and is very straightforward about what she expects from students for labs and exams. Chem 11 has a lot of material but if you manage your time well, practice the homework, and attend virtual office hours weekly you can definitely do well.
Professor Scholefield is not an easy grader and will make you work for the A. That being said chem 11 is not an easy class, but she teaches the concepts clearly and assigns optional practice questions. She also has office hours you can go to ask questions. Her class is very organized and is easy to follow. Overall she is a great choice!
Man, she was VERY difficult on her exams. Practice hw problems wouldn't even match on the exam most times. Idk would rather you chose someone else. Fall 2020 class
Out of the of Chem profs I've had, Scholefield is my favorite. She gave us 4 extra credit opportunities for up to 15 points. The class is made up of labs and exams, no homework. She kinda conducts her class through email and not canvas which took a little bit of getting used to. If you do the (not mandatory) problems she assigns you'll be fine.
The lecture was easy to follow through. She gives non-mandatory homework assignments. Now about her exams. Her exams are nothings like the lectures or the homework. I do not recommend her class. It was just no way to be prepared for the exam. For the lab reports, she is very harsh. She will take out points for anything
Pros: Solid lecture videos-she provides you with what you need to perform well-however-this class is hard! Cons She is very demeaning saying things like "This is High School Chemistry" in a very condescending way. Um, my HS didn't even require chem. Problem Solving everyone is too afraid to ask questions for fear of being shamed & she goes too fast
Professor Scholefeild is probably one of the best chemistry teachers at SMC! Her lectures are pre-recorded which she also supplies partial notes forthey were extremely organized and easy to learn from. She offers up to 15 extra points during the semester. She responds to emails quickly with any questions or concerns you have. Please take her!
Her tests were pretty difficult even after studying for hours on end, but overall it was a nice experience. Her lectures are amazing and well organized.
Professor Scholefield is Amazing! I did not do that well in the class it's self. The content is difficult and it is time demanding. But, Professor Scholefield provides lots of opportunities to ask questions during her office hours and returns email rather quickly. She is always pleasant in communications and is willing to help when you need it.
She's too hard on exams and labs!!
Idk how I got an A, very hard to study class, it was my only online class and I really felt disconnected from the class and the prof, replaces lowest exam with final, doesn't round up. Labs is the saddest thing in the world, a 5 mins long video from 2020 (a glorified book exercise), I honestly didn't get most of them sad this was my chem class..
I don't see how anyone could do badly in her class. She gave note packets for every video lecture, and her lectures were crystal clear with many examples. She had office hours 3x a week where she works out HW problems with the class. These were SO helpful, go to all of them! Plus all open-note exams and extra credit! Excellent and very fair!!
Professor Scholefield is the best professor I've had at SMC. While her exams are tough, she gives you all of the information you need to succeed. She is very thorough in her lectures and offers plenty of Q&A time to clarify the material. She is so funny and all around a really cool professor to listen to.
Professor Scholefield is one of the best Chemistry professors at SMC. Her lectures are easy to follow and she really wants you to grasp the content. She provides you with all the material you need to succeed and is very fair on her tests. Her class is a lot of work but if you put in the work you will do well.
I took this course over the summer, fresh from chem 10. She's a tough grader but she also provides everything you need for her tests. Note templates for lectures, handpicked problems, many office hour sessions, etc. She cares and wants all her students to succeed, and she's extremely thorough when going over tough questions.
Took this class over a six week session. The amount of time needed for the exams was significantly more than the time provided. She graded labs very harshly. She didn't use canvas so all labs and exam answers were submitted through email. This was frustrating because none of us knew our official grades until the very end of the semester.
Good lectures, hard tests, homework and lectures don't always match up and can be confusing. I studied a lot for this class 5-8 hours a day 4-7 days per week, watched lectures in advanced. I'm a good student who's never failed a class up until now. I learned a lot about chemistry, first two averages for exams were both fails.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! 11 labs, 4 tests, and a final. Tests are brutal and make up almost your entire grade. Labs were okay. Tests are the problem. Studied for hours for the tests and I feel that studying is useless bc of how difficult her tests are. Class averages have been 50s and 60s. If you care for your mental health don't take this class.
Lectures r good & has office hours.U would think ur okay by understanding the lectures/notes but tests will be a slap in the face.Tests r extremely difficult.Always been a good student and taken school seriously.I've never failed a class before until now.Tests are unfair.Class averages are never good yet she doesn't change anything to improve them.
I have never regretted taking a course until I took this one. This was by far one of the hardest classes that I have taken, and this is coming from a 4.0 student. If you care about your grade, don't take this class. The tests are incredibly ridiculous. In class examples seem okay, but the tests are a complete different story.
Yes, the class is hard, but it's doable. If you do the homework problems and review the note packets you will at least get a B on the tests. Professor Scholefield provides so many resources - use them! She's an amazing teacher and I'm gonna miss having her.
Professor Scholefield is *amazing*. She makes a VERY difficult topic very simple and comprehensible. Definitely lays a good basis for people regardless of major if further chemistry is required. HIGHLY RECCOMEND.
4 test and a final. To get a good grade, study a week before each test, do practice problems, and review each day.The test questions come from the textbook and notes, she likes to put graphs on tests. If you understand the math portions it is easy. The final is standardized so it is very concept based and easier. If you manage your time= A
Scholefield is a knowledgable & caring professor. She makes herself available via Zoom & in-person M - F. I got an A in the class, but I did problems every single day & attended all workshops. This class is a huge time commitment. Read the notes for definitions & practice the HW/ICE. Don't be afraid to ask for help, she is very accommodating.
This teacher makes things harder the they should. Highly overated
The best professor that I have had at SMC. I have to admit, the tests were hard and I studied a lot. I recommend going to every single one of her lectures, or you will be confused. 4 exams and a final. Study for the first exam a lot, easiest one. Do all stared homework and the ICE problems. Cheat sheet given. The final was the ACS exam, easy.
Scholefield really is a caring professor. Yes, tests are heavy and you cannot expect to pass easily without putting in commitment. But if you show up to lectures and study homework problems you will most likely pass. She allows students to take extra time to turn in time sensitive assignments, gives extra time for lab reports. Highly recommend!
Had her in the Spring 2023 and she is the BEST. The class and exams are are challenging, but if you listen to her and actually try the homework (4 problems a day) and go to the zooms you'll do good. She held zooms until the day before the final to clarify questions! Just schedule yourself, do the work, go to class and study before exams.
She is not engaging. She does care about making sure we understand the content, but her lectures are very boring. She spends too much time on the easy stuff and skips right over the hard stuff. Do I recommend her? My answer is EHHHHHH, find someone easier - not worth the stress.
Not at all a good teacher
Professor Scholefield is a kind and caring instructor. You can tell she really wants her students to succeed and takes measures to guide students to achieving that success. She offers additional problem solving zoom sessions which are focused on relevant course and exam material. Her grading is fair and clear. Highly recommend!
no canvas, all emails (weird at first but better imo). Lot of notes and practice so will succeed if you put the effort in. Listen to her advice and go to office hours!
Very fair&reasonable. Do all starred textbook problems in weekly emails and you will be well-prepared for tests. 4 tests (1 page, 1-sided cheat sheet), and easier standardized final. All MCQ. 10 chapter notes turned in by email. Very tough course. If you keep up, DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS, and go to some zoom sessions (optional), it's a guaranteed A.
This course was very demanding. The professor required us to copy her notes exactly, which took up a lot of time. I felt this didn't help me truly understand the material or solve problems. If you prefer learning by thinking and practicing rather than just copying, you might want to reconsider taking this class.
Hoenstly the worst chemistry teacher i ever had, doesn't respond to emails, her exams are nothing like the hw or class notes, Very picky on labs, pretty much no one gets a 10/10. I have no idea how she even got hired. Funny enough shes married to one of the best chemistry professors at smc, scott taylor.
Professor Scholefield's class is challenging, but she cares about student success. Attend lectures, do homework, and use resources like unstuck AI - it really helps. Grading is fair, and she offers extra support.
She clearly defines how grading goes. It's true that the tests weigh in a lot, but the homework problems she gives prepares you for them exactly. Michelle Scholefield is as fair as a professor can get. If you lack in understanding, she provides the resources to catch back up. If you don't need the extra help, you're free to do what you wish!
She's extremely hard, but the fact she give you a sheet of paper to write whatever you want in exams makes this class a brease for a lot of people. She's definitely hard but she's litterly your best option. I wish she taught Chem 12 earlier otherwise I'd take her
Scholefield's class is tough, but manageable. She provides all resources for student success, and you will get out what you put in. Do all the homework and go to all lectures, they are VERY good preparation for the exams. Can come off as harsh at first, but very clearly cares about student success. By far one of the best professors I have ever had.
Truly the best professor ever! This is a hard class but she offers so much support and wants everyone to succeed. Office hours 3x a week and zooms 2x a week. For the standardized final buy the ACS book. In summary: very fair and reasonable + take advantage of the help she offers! Practice hw problems until you're 100% solid and tests will be good.
She's incredibly difficult. Don't come in thinking this will be a easy class, but she is very accesible, and will respond to your emails.
Professor Scholefield wants to see you succeed but you must work hard and put in the effort to do well. Definitely DO the HW problems (even though they aren't graded) as they help you do well in the exams. Multiple choice & partly written exams. Go to her zooms for any support you need. It's a lot of work, so be diligent sooner rather than later.
The best for gen chem. She answers your questions before you have them; she's that good. Doesn't really do EC, gave one short assignment at the end of the semester for 4 points only. She maximizes difficulty of exams, so make sure to thoroughly go through all practice given. Doesn't use Canvas so you have to be in class to know when things are due.
I personally really enjoyed her lecturing. She lectures by providing handouts so you can follow her lectures all together.
The queen of gen chem and an incredibly fair professor. Supplies amazing guided note packets and offers tons of student support. Can seem scary, but is very kind and caring. My #1 tip is to stay on top of the (optional) homework and get help. This class is difficult, but if you're diligent + don't procrastinate you'll be fine. Best professor ever!
