an average teacher, she tries somewhat ok. She is very sensitive about the korean language, what i wonder is why is she not there in korea teaching the language, and instead here trying to sabotage what we know. she will teach it to u.
she's a cool teacher.. but a lot of vocabs and conjugation.. but over all SHE"S nICE!
yes, she's cute but she's really knows her stuff and she's nice. You will learn to read korean at the end of the course like she guarantees if you work.
Taking her course right now. I also took Korean 2 w/ her. She's an excellent prof. All the guys have crush on her but she's way too cool for them. Very nice, very funny.
took her class in fall. it's not an easy language to learn but she has lot of fun games, storeis & tries to motivate you. yes, she's hot.
it was a lot of material & we couldn't go over everythin in detail but she introduced interesting theories
My Korean improved a lot thanks to Prof.Hong. She knows how to educate students. She's nice and understanding. She gives students excuse coupons which offset absence&lateness of classes and delay of assignment. I'll definitely take Korean 2 with her. She helped me be more interested in Korean language.
Great teacher! Mastered Hanguel because of her!
Ms hong is the shiznat! she knows her stuff real good so when she teaches, she knows exactly wut she's talking about. she helped me alot in my writing, she knows how to teach step by step which is very important. she isn't borin at all. she's a good looking respectful teacher, take her class!

honestly, i came for the easy A (since im Korean) but yeah i'm taking her class right now, and she's definitely an awesome professor. and whats the deal with everyone having crushes on her? ^_^ she is pretty hot though. DEFINITELY should take this class.
her class was a blast even if it was too early in the morning. her energy and humor got us going. she's very cool & fair. now i can read korean. yea, she's the hottest prof at LACC. definitely worth getting up 8 am everyday.
her class isn't easy but she's a fantastic teacher. sh'es fun and explains everything clearly. i wish we had more time to cover culture but there was so much we had to learn. vocab was hard.
I went into the class expecting to do well since I am of Korean background. However, Professor Hong challenged me with her teaching. I ended up realizing that even though I speak Korean (well, somewhat), there's more to Korean that I ever imagined. She is very knowledgeable and well informative. But she is tough, demanding and gives a lot of work.
This class is hard. The teacher makes you do lotta stuff. She is cute & funny & pretty direct. She asks every1 questions. Class is cool, we all help each other. The syllabus tells you all the things you have to do. You gotta study for tests, specially vocab.
Prof. Hong is very organized, she keeps us on our toes everyday. Way too much energy in the morning. Must have been a cheerleader in hs. Her class isn't easy but she pretty much lays out what you gotta do in her class. She explains everything clearly but you have to study what was at the lecture. Lotta hw & vocab. She's strict but funny
easy for me. the hard thing about this class is to get up at 8 am every days (4) everything u need you know it's in the syllabus. a lot of extra credit. funny prof. she doesn't make an eye contact much, like to look at the ceiling.

Very organized, keeps you busy everyday. If you come to class & turn in all the homework, you'll do fine on tests. Now I can talk Korean at Koreatown businesses. She looks young but obviously experienced teacher. She has no ring on so she's single ;) Yeah, she's seriously sexy

I'm not Korean American so this class requires a lot of dedication. I tried to learn Korean bf but couldn't bc no one was as systematic as Prof. Hong. She uses MS PowerPoint effectively, not abusing it like some teachers. I wish other students, esp. those who already know some Korean aren't so lazy. They're wasting their youth.

Yup, super organized. Follows the syllabus exactly. Cool class. Korean is hard but prof makes sure you get a lot of practice in class & at home. Everything on etudes & website. Field trip was so fun! Yup, Prof. H is cute.
The coolest teacher ever! She does make you work hard--she pushes you. Emailed me after final exam to make me turn in l8 HW so I can get A- in class. Most profs don't care that much.
Yeah, same here. She pushes u. Hard! Demanding but she'll get u there. She expects the best from u & nothing less so u end doing your best not to disappoint her. Total hotness but real cool. She keeps it real
The worst possible of all foreign language teachers - one that teaches to native speakers. If you don't already speak Korean, this is not the class for you because you will be lost and confused. I had to learn everything from Etudes, so why did I bother going to class?
It is slightly difficult like any other class, but learning a new languages is not easy. I had no knowledge of the korean language and she made it easy to learn it. Really cares about you learning. Follows syllabus exactly and gives sample test so you can practice. It seems complicated at first but stick with it you will see how easy it is.
I took her for k1 and it was easy, I knew zero before that class. 60% of students are NOT korean in k1 but k2 75% are korean!. Since they are more native koreans she adapted the course for their needs so is much harder. Take k1, but k2 I dont recomment it.
She is calm and ready to take all questions from students and really want them to learn Korean from very beginning. Foreign language is very difficult to learn properly, but she gives a lot of chances to be close to Korean. Homework affects on your grade much, but it is way to get an A as long as you follow her all instructions.
She is a very good professor, and very empathetic. The class contains alot of native Koreans which may make it harder for Korean beginners. The professor does a good job of mitigating this and turning it into a positive. She is pretty, but that is beside the point...she's professional and will help you learn Korean.
Follow her instruction to get an A. She is so smart and funny. She makes learning Korean so much fun. I had her for K1 and K2. Hopefully, I can take K3 and K4 and K8. =)
She really cares abt the students learning. Very prepared. Not easy but do the work and you will get the grade. Fun class. A lot of group activities.
The best. very organized. she will help you if you make the effort. she keeps you busy in & outside class. Etudes stuff is useful
the class was fullfirst 2 weeks then ended u with half. she was NEVER on time. class always started 20-25 late so it takes away from your learning time. moves too fast for and leaves during class. i got a B+ and learned everything from etudes. only 7 students were not korean in a KOREAN 1 class...not fair to those who are not native korean
i am not korean & I took this class & i did fine. even better than koreans who already knew how to speak it but didn't get A bc they didnt do hw or study. just do the hw & study the sample test
completed 2 yrs of k classes @ LACC. not a native speaker but got A in all 4. I don't even want to get into how many native speakers are in spanish classes! not her fault if there r lazy students who want easy A. Who created & put all that teaching material on etudes? She did. I transferred to USC & realize now how much she cares
i didn't do as well as i could've this semester but this was a fun, helpful class. The good thing about prof. hong is that she gives you progress reports to e1 so u know pretty much where you're at. I haven't had ne other prof who bother to do that
She is very patient but OMG don't cheat in her class, she will not put up w/ it. Totally organized. A lot of quizzes & tests. Essays were hard but helpful since I never wrote one in Korean. Interview made me nervous but it made me practice.
Hong is VERY lenient and nice. She will work with you if you are having trouble with your work and offers occasional extra credit assignments to boost up your grades if needed. However, if you haven't taken previous Korean courses prior to Korean 2, the course will be difficult. Other than that, Hong is a great professor.
I can't believe I can now read Korean/Hangeul. I like surprising Koreans in K-town talking in Korean. I love that she uses K-drama & K-pop clips. I look forward to taking K2!
It's a lot of work but you will learn a lot. Now, almost end of the semester, I can read Korean/Hangul, talk some basic stuff. Prof. H makes teaches practical stuff you can do in Korean--order food, say 아 그래요!^^ I can't wait to take K2!
This is an easy class as long as you do all the work, which is not much. Participate in class. Tests are easy also. Easy A, if you work for it.
Come everday & do all the HW & u will do fine on the quizzes. All the samples r online. Have to attend 4 days/wk but only 1 hr each & prof. h keeps u entertained. Usually cool ppl in the class
This my 2nd class w her & I like how she teaches. She has a great sense of humor which helps when u r learning a foreign lang.
What can i say after taking k1 & k2 w/ prf. hong. It changed my life. if you do the work, it will be worth it. you will be respected by your korean co-workers for reading hangul & speaking basic korean. don't ask stupid questions to prof. hong it puts her in bad mood. she's a great cheerleader to her students
took prof. hong for korean 1/2. i am a native speaker but study extremely hard for the test. alot of conjugation but you can ace test by just practicing the sample test. lectures are interesting and engaging. if your active in class you can points for it. prof. hong may come off as tough but if your respectful and work hard she will help!
Professor Hong is a really nice teacher and her class is very enjoyable. Her class is only hard if you do not put time into studying, because she is very easy on the grading. Professor Hong is willing to help you if you need the extra time. Overall just a great and helpful professor.
Her morning class is tough since it's so early & you have to come everyday but Prof. Hong will wake you up & get your brain working. She is very well prepared. And yes, it helps that she's hawt.
I took a year of class w Prof. Hong & she's 1 of the nicest profs @ LACC. She constantly encourages you & tries to help you if you show the effort. She's very organized. She always looks & acts very professional, but she's also funny lol.
Can't wait to take her class again. Her class is so cool & she's totally hot >< But seriously, she will teach you Korean. Just do all the HW & study the sample tests online. Everyday she does something fun to keep up your interest
prof. hong's class was one of the best classes @ LACC. She makes working with classmates fun. She gives you a lot of homework & there are stuff you have to do a lot on your own but all tests are fair since she gives you samples. There were a lot of cool, diverse ppl in the class which made it enjoyable.
Looking forward to taking her class again. Class is so straight forward. If you do the work on the syllabus u will be well prepared for tests. I couldn't believe I learned to read & speak some Korean when I finished the course!
I took Professor Hong for both Krn 1 and 2. She is a great person do all your work which is not hard and study. If you are diligent then you should have no problem getting an A. There are sample tests which serves as a study guide so take advantage of those and enjoy learning Korean.
Prof. Hong promises at the beginning of each semester that by the end you will read and write fluently. Do your part and she will keep that promise. She is prob the nicest prof I've ever had and will always encourage you to do your very best. I recommend you don't miss class EVER. You'll fall behind very quickly otherwise. Highly recommended!!!
Can't wait to take K3 w Prof. Hong. Took K1 & K2 with her and I never had so much fun while learning. Lotta HW and studying to do but all her tests are fair w samples online. She is an attractive lady but she's very professional and knowledgeable. She tells great stories.
One of the best professors around LACC. She's very attentive to her students, answers any and all questions thoroughly. She's such a great example of what professors are suppose to be like. Straight forward with the material, just make sure you do the homework and look at her sample tests! I wish all professors in LACC could be more like her!!!
She is a great professor. Very helpful and makes it very easy to understand Korean sentence structure. I was able to read Hangul after the first few weeks! I can speak basic Korean now, but that's only because I didn't keep studying and am focusing on Chinese (b/c Chinese is hard). Study and you'll do well in her class^^
She is a great Professor and I took her for K1 & K2. I learned a lot in K1 and K2 was challenging but I did learn. Just apply yourself in her class and she grades you fairly. She's very helpful when you ask her for help. Super nice Professor so taking her class was that much better.
Despite the numerous praiseworthy and accurate comments, I want to vote "yes" for Ms. Hong. She's overwhelmingly knowledgeable in everything. Projected passion in literature and education has led me to adore her. Despite her busy teaching schedules, she is very lively and exciting. I will miss Ms. Hong the most from LACC. LOVE YOU, Ms. HONG!!!
Ms. Hong is a great teacher! LACC provided a free Korean class at my high school so I had her for Korean 2. She's very professional in her work and explains very well on her Powerpoint. If there was any trouble you can ask her. She does not tolerate with people who slacks off but other than that, she's pretty cool! I missed when she gave us treats!
She is the great professor to take if you want to learn Korean .. Do not be Intimidated by the pop quiz and test . if you study with the guidelines that she gives you or that are on my etudes you will get an easy A or a B
Basics to Professor Hong's classes are. Attend class, LEARN the vocab, and KNOW your conjugation. These basic steps will lead you to a satisfactory grade. Also apply your self. As it is a foreign language class you will need to dedicate some time if you want to get something out of her classes. For the most part it's not that difficult.
Stupid homework
Professor Hong is really great. I don't know how she does it, but she makes material simple and although it's a fast paced class you will understand everything by the time each lesson test, midterm, and final comes around. You also have to do your part though, you have to study A LOT on your time. Hong is always willing to help.
I'm a non-native speaker and I took Prof. Hong's class for Korean 1 & 2. The lazy native speakers don't do HW & think they can pass by just showing up for tests. The class is so crystal clear on what you need to do to get A. Prof. H grades fairly & her tests are based on what you study, not what you already know if u r native speaker.
I took her 7:25 am class but trust me it is worth it, non native korean speakers can easily find this class easy, she makes everything pretty clear. She gives a lot of extra credit and her vocab quizzes are easy. Easy A and you learn a lot. She is super nice and has a lot of enthusiasm considering its early morn class. Will take her again for Kor2
I loved professor Hong! She was an absolute sweetheart and if you come to class everyday you will pass! A lot of practice is needed because it is learning a lot of language but she gives you a lot of resources and her office is always open! She even gave us candy for our final for good luck.
Took kor1 with hong and she's absolutely amazing!! There for you when you need her during office hours, the material is a little fast paced but if you come in and ask for help she will work for you. Genuinely wants everyone to pass and learn something! Plenty of extra credit offered as well you have to be extremely last to not pass her class.
What can I say after taking 1 yr of Korean w Prof. Hong? We love her so much. She's always there if u have questions even if it's not abt the class but abt major or transfer. She always encourages and pushes you all the while making u laugh xD she's hilarious. Take her class bc you will learn to read speak & write Korean and make cool friends
Prof. Hong totally cares about her students. We adore her. She gives you progress report w score of everything you worked on so you know where you stand with grade. She's super organized. You know exactly what you will be doing everyday fr day 1. Her class always attracts cool, hard working ppl. No flakes--bc you rly learn in her class.
She teaches two classes back to back while also running the Foreign Language Dept. She is busy but always has time to teach thoroughly and give us good feedback. Come to class, study the vocab and PPTs, and do the HW and you'll get an A. Awesome prof. You learn so much Korean in just two semesters. Wish she was teaching K3.
Yup, she runs the dept so she's busy but she really cares abt her students & grades fairly. She's better than a lot of professors I encountered at LACC. You will be able to read Korean Hangul at the end of K1 & do some basic intro if Unput in the effort
I love Professor Hong, I had her for Korean 1 and 2. She is simply a superb language teacher that is very caring of her students and want them to pass! She drops the lowest test and 2 lowest quiz scores. All the material she posts on etudes will be your best friend in learning Korean!
Taking K2 & rly enjoying the class. U learn super useful & cool slang expressions. Prof. Hong uses real life examples fr Kdrama & TV shows. Shes also a great storyteller about her own experience as non-native English speaker & learning other foreign languages (she speaks like 5). Shes crazy busy Bc shes the dept chair but shes always there 4 u
This is not an easy A class where u learn nothing. If you take this class and do decent work, you will be able to read and start talking in Korean. Prof. Hong has a very structured course, completely outlined day-to-day. She gets busy bc she's the chair but she rly cares abt students LEARNING, and is passionate about multiculturalism
I took both K1 & K2 with Prof. H n shes just the best. We have many native speakers but also mad skill non-Korean students who are almost fluent bc they study so hard. It was a bit difficult w Prof. H using more Korean in class but I caught up. She is very good at getting the entire class involved in group presentation.
Nice lady. But the tests were very tricky. You had to review everything before you took them. Some discussion questions were very broad, you must follow her documents. Don't try to use your own ideas.
If u need humanities GE, this is the fastest n focused way. Her 5 week DE course has everything streamlined. I actually did learn a lot about korean history, too. I procrasted less than other DE courses that makes u just read or write papers bc I had to create PowerPoint slide each key terms which helped me learn as I had to make them.
I took 4 semesters of Korean with this woman and she deserves this. Shes one of the best professors at LACC. Her lectures are very clear, she gives the funniest examples of grammar. Today she helped us read a webtoon from a Korean website. She made me see that after 2 years of Korean, even if Im not perfect, I can understand. Ty Prof. Hong!
Shes really nice and helpful. If you dont pass or still struggling to learn, she encourages you to retake it. There is extra trine to do homework and will give you a make up date. She would tell us stories from her other classes. I recommend taking this class. She teaches pretty fast so its a bit difficult to catch up
This is not an easy A class (even for Koreans) but it's totally possible to get an A with a decent amount of effort. Quizzes and discussion questions are HARD and are very stressful. Make sure you put extra effort on the ppt slides to boost your grade up. She grades things very slow but gives great feedbacks.
Took this DE class in Winter for GE. Simple, each week do quiz, PPT assignment, & discussion. The course is straight forward. Just do those 3 things every week. It's a grind but it's only 5 weeks instead of 15. Quizzes are all fr lecture notes and textbook. Study the terms on the list & u r fine
This is my first time taking a Korean class and was rly impressed by how the course is organized. Even when we moved to online w/ Zoom meetings the course held together, not like my other subject courses, bc Prof. Hong already had all her materials on Canvas and the textbook has online oral/listening exercise. Strongly recommended
I loved Prof Hong as a person She was kind and concerned with our well being especially during pandemic. That being said, though I got a good grade, I do not feel I learned any Korean from this class. It was the first year using a new book and the structure was all over the place. I feel like I wasted time and credits on this class tbh.
Was able to finish the semester even when we moved online. I am now finally able to read hanguel even if it's not perfect. I wish we had more time to practice if it wasn't for the 2 weeks of hiatus bc of qtine. It is slow paced and sample tests are pretty clear. Hope K2 we will learn more things.
Was nervous abt this class Bc they say Korean is rly hard but Prof. Hong made it easy and fun. It sucks we had to go online Bc of covid but she cares abt the class and checked Daily if we were physically and emotionally ok. She was quick to change the syllabus so passing the course would be less difficult. Taking K2 w her for sure
What a semester but this class gave me reason to get up every morning at 8 Bc I knew Prof. Hong & my classmates would be there. We could count on her to deliver us very clear explanation of grammar and we even did pair work. She tried to make the class normal as possible. She always give fun examples of kpop & kdrama. Ty Prof. H
it was very tough as professor was not prepared to take this course online. Textbook is not very user friendly and canvas site for the course didn't offer much materials at all.
The fastest and stress free way to take care of GE. I took this class bc I had to return home fr Boston. Decided to take a bunch of GE courses for transfer credit until my university reopens. Actually, quite impressed w the community college DE course. All the materials online there and just DIY--assignments & quizzes. No lectures to attend.
So glad I took this class. Learning is very gradual even if its online. Must do all HW & dialogue practice recording to pass but the quizzes r super easy, open book and open note. Prof. Hongs course shell is very organized so you know everything u need to do fr day one. Her lectures r clear n she helps u after Zoom if u have questions
I can't believe I know how to read Hangeul now! Having class totally on Zoom & online was kind of weird but I was able to still meet up with a lot of cool ppl in class thru the ice breaker in the beginning. Prof. Hong uses fun materials in her PPT related to K-Pop & K-drama--she knows how to get your attention lol The class is very gradual.
I think this is the best and most affordable Korean program in California. Bc of the pandemic I was able to take it online from San Jose. Prof. Hong was willing to Zoom w/ me and my friends & explain abt the AA and certificates. She created a lot of extra materials for us to practice. The class is super chill with a lot of ARMY & other KPop fans.
Korean 10 with Professor Hong is an excellent choice.
Straight forward 100% online course. U do all the work on your own on your own time. This class would have cost me thousands of $$$ @ UCLA. The course transferred wo an issue. Just download the syllabus. Prof. Hong is very responsive & fair w grading. Quizzes r tricky tho. Tough 1st 2 wks but it gets much better after that. Last week is a breeze
I was nervous about taking the class fully online but we met by Zoom everyday and Prof. Hong made it work. She has rly good PPTs you can always review even if you miss class & the textbook PIP LANG makes you practice speaking (repeating 6x). The quizzes r easy if you do the HW and study a bit. Prof. Hong has funny stories abt Ktown life lol
Didn't expect to learn much bc everything's online but this course is very well organized so that if you do the hw & pip lang, you will know how to read & speak Korean. It's too bad the class is only by Zoom but Prof. Hong has detailed and fun PPT ( KPop group pics lmao) so it will grab your attention.
OMG, she graded my oral midterm & I'm so happy. The online class is pretty good but I wish we had Prof. Hong irl. She's so funny & we could have had prizes for Bingo in Korean numbers :( She teaches you not only grammar but abt Korean culture, food, Kpop, and Kdrama. Glad I watched enuf, got A+++ for aegyo gesture in the ramen seduction part lol
U learn a lot abt Korean history and culture like how and why Korea is divided North & South. Be prepared to make PPT. If Prof. Hong sees that r making the effort, she will give xtra credit on the assignments. Quizzes r easy IF you study. A few trick ?'s here and there. Last week on diaspora and globalization discussion is worth the wait.
I took K1 @ Saddleback & took K2 @ LACC since the course is online. What a difference! Prof. Hongs course shell is the most organized of all the courses Ive taken at both colleges. Since the pandemic, online classes have been awful, but her Zoom & online materials r very good for self-study. Prof. H explains grammar clearly w her BTS PPTs lol
I took Korean classes @ other colleges & finally found Prof. Hong who doesnt just explain grammar but can explain subtle differences between similar expressions. She gives you the funniest examples so you understand when something is sarcastic, agreeing, etc. she doesnt just lecture but makes sure e1 participates & interact w each other
It was a shock when Prof. H told us her first language is Korean & she was an ESL student! It makes sense how she understands the difficulties of learning a new language. She's really up to date with stuff on TikTok to motivate us or let us know abt the latest apps . She gets it that we don't learn by just memorizing but interacting w technology
I took K1 w Prof. Hong & I'm taking K2 w her now bc it was the most organized of all the online courses. I love how she's constantly on to the latest trends & keep learning fun. She shares hilarious, useful TikTok posts. So awesome she taught us abt how the 1st game in Squid Game, the phrase is used bc it's 10 syllables for 10 sec count :)
Prof. Hong spent a full hr w me today to help me catch up w reading hangeul. It was too hectic at the start of the semester but I'm trying to get it together now & it might be too late but I'm gonna re-take K1 w her bc she rly cares abt me learning than getting stressed out to just pass. During office hr, she gives you full 1 on 1 attention
I transferred to UCLA & miss taking courses w Prof. Hong. Being at a 4 yr college rly makes you realize what a caring & intelligent professor she is. Bc she is so fluent in English, she can explain how similar expressions are different in context or ambiance. She's so good at pointing out how there are subtle variations
Im compelled leave this review bc I miss her class so much. I took K1 & K2 w her during the covid lockdown. Im now back at my university where Im taking K3 & it sucks. I had low expectation since its a community college but her course shell was super organized. I realize now no such prof @ my uni who gets Kpop & cares abt students. Sigh
Prof. Hong may seem intimidating bc the class is so structured & on schedule. Don't let that keep you from asking for help. If you reach out to her & show you r willing to make the effort, she makes time for you--practically gives you a private tutoring session. Her PPTs are rly helpful so u can study on your own later. She's patient & encouraging
I started K1 @ SMC & glad I moved to LACC. 1st of all, SMCs textbook sucks. No online materials & exercises. I rly struggledu have to study everything on your own! When u do PIP LANG, its automatic u memorize the lines after recording 6x. Prof. Hong makes class pleasant & enjoyable. She calls on each person but also makes us do fun group work
Prof. Hong doesnt mess around fr the get go. She makes sure you get on the certificate/AA track right away. I wasnt seriously abt majoring in Korean but Im sold after 1 semester even if Im already majoring in business. She rly cares abt her students. She constantly informs us abt scholarships, contests, and cultural events.
I finally got to meet Prof. Hong in person after 2 yrs of Zoom @ a campus event
Prof. Hong is strict but she is fair and she wants you to do well. She did notice when I'm slacking off and encouraged me to keep going. Most profs wouldn't have even bothered but @ the end of the semester, she messaged to tell me that I didn't use my late assignments pass and if I did turn in 2 late HW I'd actually get an A. Rly appreciated that.
Great experience learning Korean 1st time! Thanks to Prof. Hong I can now read Hangeul, yay! She uses a lot of K-Pop and K-drama materials in her lecture PPT so you pay attention lol. I wish the class was in person. She sometimes felt bad she couldn't give us prize for games. We all wanted to know who's her ch'oe ae. She taught us that word :)
I was able to graduate fr high school bc Prof. Hong helped me & my classmate take the placement exam even after the class already started. Admission office was no help w all the paperwork but Prof. Hong got us to enroll quickly. The class was a LOT of fun but I also learned a lot bc there was also a lot of HW & weekly quizzes.
It was tough returning to in person class after 2 yrs but Prof. Hong rly tried to make the class fun. Her PPT's get your attention bc it's full of K-POP & drama references. She brought in treats whenever there was a Korean holiday. It was awesome when she gave away prizes for bingo game in Korean. Native Korean numbers are hard to memorize ^^;
Starting @LACC during COVID was tough but I'm finally done! Kept taking Prof. H fr K1 bc she's rly great on Zoom. Her lecture goes fast: cute PPTs, fun breakout room activities. K4 was hard bc it's asyn. Had to do everything on my own. She just sent a sweet email saying how she is proud of all of us
This was my first class at LACC & I enjoyed it so much. Prof. Hong is strict but once I got used to the rhythm of the course, I was OK. She gets it that we are there for K-pop & K-drama. She explains a lot about culture--both traditions & trends. You can tell she rly cares abt & is proud of what she teaches--about Korea.
Her section is always full but I finally got to enroll last semester bc it was in person class. She can be a bit intimidating at first but she's actually funny once she lays all the ground rules. So glad that now I'm able to read Korean. It was sweet of her to bring us Pepero for 11/11. She explains a lot of Korean slangs and modern culture.
OMG, it was my 1st time taking Korean & it was amazing! My classmates & I got featured on the JTBC K-Lunch Tray show bc Prof. Hong coordinated the production on our campus. We got lunch served by celebrity Korean chef. The experience was truly inspiring & I'm now more motivated to learn Korea & visit there. Thank u Prof. Hong!
Prof. Hong is such an inspiration. Taking her K1 class rn & never seen a professor who not only cares for her students in class but also works hard in public to promote Korean Program. Bc of her, we have King Sejong statue @ LACC. She brought us traditional sweets for Chuseok. She teaches us the chorus of New Jeans "Super Shy." We
Korean is very challenging but Prof. Hong is completely dedicated & always there for you. She cares not only for her classes, but the entire Korean program. She created lecture video for every lesson of every course level. This is amazing bc now I have access to all the lectures to review for all the classes bf n after K2. Makes studying easier.
Prof. Hong explained in lecture how Byeol means tar in native Korean but means "distinct" in Sino-Korean and how they play with this word in Stray Kids' "S-Class." Mind blown. No other Korean prof. can teach you like her what's useful lol
Prof. Hong is AMAZING w everything she does for the Korean program. But I realized how calm n professional she was dealing w this student who was so passive aggressive, always starting her odd question w I'm sorry for asking a dumb question. 1 day she just went off but Prof. H didn't lose her cool n de-escalated the situation. Respect!
I wanted to learn Korean so badly but could never fit it into my work schedule! This course was perfect bc I could learn at my own pace as long as I turned everything in by the due date. Prof. Hong was super flexible. When I had complex questions, she explained the answers in detailed writing or recorded a Zoom video with PPT as a whiteboard.Tysm!
So glad this class was offered @ community college online. The quizzes can be tricky but you can make up w PPT assignments n xtra credits. Learned cool stuff abt the 3 kingdoms, Choson, how the Korean War happened then Korea split. It's a lot of materials but it's only 5 week summer course. Thx for the class Prof. Hong!
I understand now why now she's the Korean Program director. Her organization is amazing. She is professional but has this rizz. When she goes over grammar, she gives rly accurate sample sentences on the spot that's not in the textbook or PPT. She obvs listen to K-Pop bc she often uses lyrics to teach.
I made 2 appts w counselors to get Korean AA w no success. So glad I contacted Prof. Hong, the K program director. It took some time but w her help, I was able to graduate w the degree. Korean 4 is asynchronous so you miss human interaction w her but you can view her lecture vids on YT. Easy class, just complete everything by due date.
Professor Hong makes learning Korean fun with K-pop references and cultural celebrations. Attendance is mandatory, but the interactive lessons and Unstuck AI make studying a breeze.
I tried to learn Korean on my own for years n it's been a difficult journey. I was upset when I didn't pass the placement exam n had to start fr K1, but I'm glad Prof. Hong encouraged me. I wish I had taken Korean classes @ LACC earlier. Prof. Hong gives rly great examples in lectures n the online materials are engaging.
I'm a student at UCI studying Korean and I would think it's because Professor Hong inspired me to continue my Korean studies in higher education. I was able to pass a placement test at my new uni with the skills I learned at LACC. I miss her class so much ! I truly reccomend !
